thinking about sokka, sukki, and zuko and their similarites in issues with being in command and insecurity of being an incompetent leader / failing the people under their protection
i think theyd find a kinship in that (also in being the eldest and more "mature" / feeling they need to protect the kids despite being only one or two years older (to kataras frustration))

yes again
OK OK ok so
Zukka AU where Zuko has a tiny bit more common sense and realizes his father is batshit insane a few months after the start of his banishment so he ends up being a menace for the fire nation (especially Zhao) and NOBODY can catch him and his crew (which are loyal to him cause Iroh tells them the story of his scar earlier) and one day he has to go to Kyoshi Island to restock and also to catch up with a friend (Suki) he made while talking shit about the Firelord but when he arrives everything is on fire because Zhao, who was tasked with the mission of retrieving the Avatar after informants report the Big Avatar Beacon, is an ass so Zuko goes to help and almost gets killed by Sokka, who does not know who he is, and they all end up with very awkward presentations to do but the Gaang doesn’t rly trust Zuko at first and then Suki (who know about the scar) makes a joke about “the Firelord burning Zuko’s other eye because it worked so well the first time” and they are all like yk what after much reflection we are adopting you and Sokka is like “Aang if you don’t kill the Firelord i will” and-

Concept: Fire-sibs with Congenital Prosopagnosia. They’re face-blind.
Azula is fine. She chose 2 friends with extremely distinctive voices & body-language and decided that was enough. Recognizing anyone else is beneath her station as a princess. If they were important they’d wear a crown.
Zuko on the other hand has been on this ship for 3 years and he’s concerned that if he doesn’t capture the Avatar soon, this group of middle-aged men might begin to suspect can’t tell them apart.
Literally any disguise will fool Zuko. Cover Aang’s tattoos and he can’t pick him out of a lineup. Fortunately water-tribe teens are rare outside of the poles, and Aang has a habit of declaring himself the Avatar so he stands a chance as long as they don’t catch on…
Bonus: Ty Lee’s sisters don’t even look that much like her. It’s just a standard familial resemblance. But Zuko and Azula both made the mistake several times as children and have complained about how hard it is to tell them all apart, and nobody bothered to correct them (because royalty) so Ty Lee believed them.

about S1 E12, the storm
Zuko was one of the only people on ship that wasn’t there to hear Iroh’s story, so him deciding to get the ship to safety instead of chasing the avatar isn’t a new development brought about by a deeper understanding with the crew
He either realized how bad the storm was getting and decided on his own that the safety of the crew was more important than the avatar
or he had it in mind the whole time, even while he was declaring the avatar was more important than anything
Moments like this in the show is why I love fanfics of Zuko bonding with his crew.
Zuko getting to know them better after this episode, once they’ve relaxed with him somewhat after knowing the truth to his backstory..
or even bending canon to have him getting along with them beforehand, his actions going completely against what they know from his first introduction
Idk, my thoughts are all over the place right now. If anyone has any I’d love to hear some fanfiction recommendations

I still wanna know how this random old Earth Kindom peasant knew more about Fire Nation royal family affairs than Jee and the crew of Zuko's ship.

My biggest issue with young!Jee is that he isn't anywhere near as smart as OG old!Jee, and that just doesn't feel right for the character. OG Jee would have known Zhao was manipulating him against Zuko's best interests the second Zhao opened his mouth.
i disagree. canon jee doesn't tell us much. and honestly jee hated zukos guts. i wouldn't be surprised if jee for some cheep booze told zhaos crew that zuko found the avatar in the south pole. he left, like the entire crew did as well, zukos ship on zhaos order. leaving zuko and iroh behind.
if your interpretation of original jee is that he is smart and a devoted lieutenant, that is fine by me. but it reads vary fanon to me.

i know the atla live action show has MANY issues
but one thing they did great is showing how aang and zuko mirror eachother
i realized this with the voiceovers made by gyatso and iroh, aang ans zuko's mentors
each of them were speaking about their pupil but their speeches applied to both zuko and aang
the story starts with both of them falling to the rock bottom and losing everything
and it ends with both of them having fulfilled their destiny, side by side

Maybe... the Fire Nation's got a point?
AKA the Katara Willingly Joins Zuko In His Quest To Find The Avatar AU
#atla#zutara#zuko#avatar the last airbender#katara#atla zuko#atla fanart#prince zuko#atla art#atla katara#atla netflix#katara of the southern water tribe#katara art#katara fanart#zuko fanart#zutara fanart#zutara au#Katara Willingly Joins Zuko In His Quest To Find The Avatar AU#I need a proper title for this AU. I'm up for suggestions!#Okay so Katara isn't raised in the FN. She isn't captured or infiltrating Zuko's crew.#When I said she willingly joins him I meant it. She's absolutely genuine about it.#For context in this AU she doesn't see the Avatar as a beacon of hope. Rather she resents and blames them for the war and running away#(No Aang bashing. But! he isn't a child here and thus has to accept full responsibility for his actions and their consequences)#Aang gets out of the Iceberg by himself and arrives to Katara's village. They believe him to be a surviving air nomad and take him in.#He learns everything about the war and Katara's opinion about the Avatar. Aang keeps quiet about his identity. He's afraid and in denial#Then everything changed when Secretly A White Lotus Member and Traitor To The Crown! Zuko arrived#Their first meeting was miles away from canon. Zuko arrived rather peacefully and his strange actions were enough to make Katara's...#... decision easier later. On the other hand there's a incident and... yeah. Katara learns that Aang is the Avatar and has been lying to her#In short: shit happens and suddenly Aang is leaving for the North Pole on his own and Katara becomes a crew member in Zuko's ship#She's his right hand and his partner in crime and the only one besides his uncle who can beat him at Pai Sho. They kick ass and hunt Avatars

Sorry, the 41st division can't be called a division. A division is a large military unit or formation, usually consisting of between 6,000 and 25,000 soldiers. That ain't a ship crew xD.

How exactly HAS Zuko been explaining the teething marks on his gear to uncle and the crew up till now?
