Some of y'all are pissing me off. Covey names are two parts one based on a Ballad the other a color but they are still on name. Lucy Grey never goes by Lucy, she says to Lepidus Malmsey that Lucy is not her name, it's Lucy Grey. Lenore Dove isn't just Lenore she's Lenore DOVE. The only time anyone calls her Lenore is when Haymitch is trying to trick Snow. This goes for Tam Amber, Clerk Carmine, Maude Ivory, Bard Azure and Billy Taupe as well. If CORIOLANUS SNOW can say their names correctly So. Can. You.

Clerk Carmine Clade doesn’t get enough attention and appreciation, because that man lived through the execution of his people and was the only Covey left alive.

He saw his parents and grandparents be killed, got put in District 12 along with the other Covey children and then watched as they all died each and every one.

His brother, Lucy Gray, Maude Ivory, the Bairds, his adoptive DAUGHTER Lenore Dove, Tam Amber who must have passed before Mockingjay (either of old age or in the district 12 genocide).

And the Everdeens are the only ones we know of that are still related to the Covey (even tho Katniss doesn’t know that) - Prim and Burdock dead as well.

He’s the last one standing and yet he still sings with the children at Annie’s and Finnicks Wedding, still being there, still living, watching the world turn for the better, knowing that it’s a world his people no longer will see.

Clerk Carmine who is the last Covey standing.

Clerk Carmine who lived his entire life not being able to be himself, to love who he loves.

Clerk Carmine who tried everything he could to save his loved ones and failed.

Clerk Carmine everybody.

I like to imagine that Billy Taupe has a grave right outside the Covey one, if he has one at all, or it’s somewhere else hidden. Away from the Covey, but away from the world too because before he was a traitor he was family.

Maybe CC goes to visit sometimes, maybe he never goes at all.

THE PARALLELS BETWEEN BILLY TAUPE AND LENORE DOVE

I love Lenore Dove, she is one of my favourite characters from sotr, but is no one going to talk about the symbolism of Lenore Dove having Billy Taupe’s Accordion, and the parallels between the two characters.

Both characters were rebellious troublemakers, and people who Clerk Carmine deeply cared about.

A big difference between the two is their love for their partners.

Their parallels continue as they both got their partners (Lucy Gray and Haymitch) forced to compete in the hunger games. However, Billy Taupe causes Lucy Gray’s reaping by his own selfishness, in that he wanted to have both Mayfair and Lucy Gray, causing Mayfair to get her father call out her name, while Lenore Dove causes Haymitch being chosen due to her caring and wilful nature, in that she tried to help a grieving mother get her son’s body back, resulting in Haymitch protecting her from a peacekeeper and getting sent as a replacement.

While both are narratively similar characters, they are both incredibly different intrinsically.

Which are mirrored by their relationships, with Billy Taupe betraying Lucy Gray for Mayfair, and Lenore Dove and Haymitch being head over heels in love with each other.

Both Lucy Gray and Haymitch were chosen for the games by a malicious force, but Haymitch went in the games for love, while Lucy Gray’s end was marked by a man’s selfishness.

I wonder. Was Snow the only one who projected Billie Taupe onto the kid?

We know from Lucy Gray‘s song that Billie Taupe was a gambler and a thief. It‘s not a secret that Haymitch is a bootlegger. Lucy Gray‘s relationship with Clerk Carmine‘s older brother got her sent to the games. Maybe he just doesn‘t want to risk anymore Covey members to good for nothing idiots (nevermind that Billie Taupe was also covey but scemantics)
