I have a bone to pick with SOME fic writers that characterize ghost as a traumatized, zero healing, skittish and forever sad character:

I fucking hate reading your ghost!! And unfortunately is more than half of the fics that have him like that.

Im not going to discard that both 2009 and 2023 ghost have deep, deep trauma and need lots of healing, but u are completely discard the healing he most likely already did.

I see the mask as a coping mechanism, a way to show trust and maybe some self image issues, but I believe those come with the trust. Ghost lost his old way of trusting people, and now he needs to find a new to trust and to show that trust - and that's where the mask comes, he takes off his mask, he's starting to trust u, if u are allowed to take off his mask then he fully and deeply trusts u. For me, my headcanon, since Ghost doesn't trust many people easily or naturally anymore, when he trusts someone it's on a live and death level, he trusts deeply and tightly.

I think the mask is also a way to separate personas. The mask in the field it's ghost, the highly trained soldier with scary aim and precision (not saying that he doesn't slip up, he's human and he feels emotions just like any other human, and most likely will have moments where he let's those emotions take over). While Ghost without a mask, in the privacy of those that received his heart and mind on a silver box, it's Simon, caring, soft and still hesitant abt many things but is open to heal and to learn to accept.

Of course, not everything is roses and rainbows. I believe Ghost can't sleep in the dark bc of the casket thing, he sleep with a nightlight (yellow specifically), even when he sleeps with other 141 bc he really can't do it without the light. He still has insomnia related to the torture, but now is more fucked up schedule than fear of sleeping, besides, he sleeps better when he knows someone with him in the same room or sleeping with him. Nightmares are thing, but now are mostly triggered by something specific or they just happened, but they are less and more manageable - he also has mechanisms that help him either calm down but not sleep, or sleep for a few more hours. Ghost has triggers that related to his trauma to Vernon (he used to have some related to his childhood, but somehow, during his torture, Simon's brain lost memories related to his childhood and much of those traumatic years were forgotten and never came back) the dark places, claustrophobia of small rooms, and ringing noises, he can't be tied up in kind off way even if it's playful or sexual (idk how more he was tortured).

Also from his roba time, Ghost has a hard time feeling pain, meaning that his brain and body don't connect correctly when he's hurt, so much of the psychological pain comes after he was hurt, rather than the moment he was hurt - Vernon fucked up his nervous system real good.

But then there's the contrasting thing. Yes Simon has a long baggage, very heavy, that is still actively healing from it, with a great success. But we cannot ignore his human side, his Simon side. I believe he's caring and gentle bc in his distant mind he remembers a mother who loved to hug him and gently teach him things. He likes routine and things that bring comfort are simple and soft - like a cup of tea while outside, or a book, or a walk (things that make him center in the present, and things that make him wait for tomorrow). I believe Simon loves to help people, and acts of service is his love language. He can be cuddly and affectionate when he trusts ppl (the 'u are allowed to take off my mask' trust) he remembers the little details, he makes sure everyone feels loved and treasured - and he tries his best to receive it back, he does hesitate, but always remembers that these are people who would kills for him if he said so, he trust them deeply.

I have a lot to say abt him.

I just wanted to say that u guys think are writing a complex character of him, but you are not. You are writing a stereotypical traumatized man, who has zero personality besides his past trauma. Writing a complex Ghost, is writing a balance between his healing, his step backs, his real self, his trust to people, his vision of the world currently, his way of giving up a past self and embracing his new self, someone who has much much to go through life.

(Many of this things are based on myself. I have phobia of the dark since little and bc of trauma I had with my mom, I don't remember much of my childhood from before I was 10 yrs)

Which is very ignorant. I mean, someone who's "not traumatized" usually wouldn't be able to stay calm and serve cunt under pressure. Shooting enemies while hanging on a rope, diffusing a bomb right after seeing his friend get shot.

Is it because he has the most decent moral out of 141? People assume he doesn't have any trauma— well that's what headcanons are for— personally, i think people can still be kind, be a decent human being even if they have traumas

And so why if he's not traumatized, why does it make him less interesting? You don't need to be mentally unstable to serve cunt—

Gaz who's the Angel of 141, and they would maul anyone that would question gaz place in the 141, let alone replace him.

Gaz who gets up a bit before anyone and he knows that Ghost gets up not long after. So he makes Ghosts tea, just the way he likes ir, perfectly warm, with the perfect amount of milk and water, and sugar (bc in my head he likes sweet things). Ghost comes, sees the tea ready like always, sneaks a squeeze on that ass and kisses gaz good morning and thank u bc his angel made his morning better.

Gaz who let's soap talk for hours bc he knows he needs it sometimes. If ita not destroying gym equipment, it's through talking that Soap cools down. He doesn't need advice or reassurance he just needs to talk and gaz maybe won't remember half of the things the scott did, but he knows his presence is what he needs right now. Until soap becomes quiet, eerily so, and that's when gaz reaches out and hugs him tightly. Sometimes soap cries others he just stays there feeling the warmth and smelling the mango scent shampoo gaz uses for his curls. At the end, he kisses gaz, thanks him with his whole heart bc his angel will always be his safe heaven.

Gaz who sits in price office, just to make him company and take care of him. Who when it's lunch time and the captain doesn't get up, he goes and gets him food for him bc he knows that price won't get up, giving excuse behind excuse, he brings the food to him, makes sure he drinks tons of water, and works his charm to make him rest, on the couch where gaz is, between his legs and laying his on gaz chest, he always tells that gaz smells like coconuts and summer, and gaz cards his fingers through his hair, making him relax. When Price wakes up he kisses gaz thank u tells him that he loves gaz bc his angel is always there to take care of him.

And the 141??? The 141 that makes sure gaz knows that he's loved and protected and treasured. Ghost who knows every brand of sweet treats that gaz likes and always keep it stacked up, and who knows what movies gaz likes the best and will always put them on for him to watch. Soap who knows helps gaz with his curls, putting the cream and curling them with his finger while they watch something, who likes to be gaz knight in shining armor and help him with the most insignificant tasks bc it makes gaz laugh when he shows off. Price who knows when gaz needs time, wraps a blanket around gaz and pulls him into a hug and they both laid down, gaz in a cocoon hidden from the world and let's out everything silently while price is there, anchoring to world.

I should write more gaz being a sexy menace maybe next time

So after all that ups and downs in their relationship that I won't be dwelling in this post, jason becomes a sexy little menace towards roy bc he knows what gets roy going and it's all of jason and more.

Rolling over bc a bomb just exploded close by?? Jason lands on Roy's lap while holding his gun and makes sure to "accidentally" rub his ass on the gingers crotch.

Interrogating (torturing) someone?? Jason makes sure to stick his ass out more and bend over more times.

Walking to a checkpoint or a safehouse?? I bit more of sway in thos hips that's what happens.

And roy?? Roy can't tell anyone bc no one will believe that the crazy, unstable, murderous jason todd is out to make Roy's horny at any given moment.

Training?? Yeah he's putting the tiniest shorts to show those thighs and randomly taking his shirt off.

Sleeping?? Roy doesn't even know how he plans that shit but he does and it works.

Stripping his gear?? Oh its slow and teasing and jesus lord roy is more than a saint at this point.

That to say that Jason knows he's hot, knows that roy thinks he's hot, and will act on it.

(This also works if they weren't together at all and just roy doubting his eyes)
