She swept her petals under the rug
And welcomed his thorns
He came, empty handed as always
But a mouth full of bickering
She listened, or rather faded
Slipping inside her head, a world of her own
Where her flowers could grow, her desires on show
He isn’t there, he is but merely
Somewhere in the back, away from the river
Leaning onto some insignificant tree
And just as she begins to breathe
She’s snapped into reality
But at-least now, his bickering is done for the day
- the sacrifices she made for her family

The map of his face was so carefully drawn
And yet it could not depict the ocean in his eyes

Fate had a way of pulling her closer to the people who broke her
Love was her healing
Pain was the first one who taught her to write
Jealousy made her hate herself
Time kept slipping from her fingers
Hope made a lot of broken promises
Destiny kept her confused
Dreams kept her awake
Change gave her nightmares
Growth healed her heart not her skin
Chance deemed her unlucky
Lust made her dance all night
And then life asked her: Was I worth it all?

Questions for broken people (TW):
• How often does your heart linger in places that do not know your name?
• If you could do it again, would you let it destroy you or wait until you become destruction itself?
• When you indulged yourself in delusions, did you wish it was real or did you pretend it was?
• Did it hurt when it all came back to you?
• Could it be that all the stars in the sky chose not to shine at you in the very moment you saw yourself worthy of a spotlight?
• Is it skin deep? The pain you carry within yourself?
• Did you memorize her name as soon as he said it and wished it was yours?
If it hurts, write a poem about it. And know that you are not alone 🤍

She lived in a house of mirrors bright
Reflections of her father’s selfish light
And in every corner she searched
A shadow of her own
Took a look in the mirror, she was torn
A spark of hope, a strength to heal
A way to cope with her broken heel
Seeking solace in strangers arms, an empty kiss
No one to miss
Afraid to hear her cousin’s laugh, a bell so clear
Ignites inside her a burning fear
“Will I be alone forever” she asks herself
With broken pieces she masks herself
She watches close, her eyes so green
Her cousin’s life, a shining scene
Each laugh, each praise, a sharpened thorn
Her own self worth in silence torn
She yearns for what she cannot claim,
And burns with envy, masked with shame
In the end she’s got no one to blame
- this one’s for you jealous bitch

I pretend to hate more often than I love. In exchange for both I get my heart broken.

I wish I met myself many lifetimes ago
Because this one
Might be too short
To learn how to love myself

The shattered pieces of my mirror
Are deluded enough to pretend
That they can see me
But all I’ve looked back on
Is a distorted image

She gives birth to poetry
Tales ripping her insides out
She bleeds
But only on the pages

One thing I realized about poetry is that when the poet reads it out loud we relate to their feelings but when we read the poem, we relate to our own.
