How to Prevent Cracked Book Spines

STEP 1: PICK A BOOK

STEP 2: PLACE BOOK WITH SPINE FACING DOWN ONTO A FLAT SURFACE

It’s important to use a flat and sturdy surface. Using a soft surface like a mattress or carpeted floor might result in a cracked spine, which is what we’re actually trying to prevent.

STEP 3: OPEN UP THE FRONT AND BACK COVERS AND FLATTEN ONTO THE SURFACE ALONG THE CREASES

Paperbacks usually come with a natural fold along or near the spines. Follow along those as a guide.

STEP 4: ONE BY ONE, OPEN A PAGE ON EACH SIDE

Technically it’s fine to open up a few pages in one go but I don’t like uneven gaps to form between the pages, so I’m more meticulous by opening only one page at a time.

STEP 5: CONTINUE WITH STEP 4 UNTIL THE SPINE CURVES AND THE PAGES FAN OUT, THEN OPEN UP A FEW PAGES AT A TIME

After opening up about 10% of the book, the spine should start curving. Leave it that way. Don’t force the spine to remain flat on its back. You want the spine to curve.

STEP 6: KEEP GOING UNTIL YOU REACH THE CENTRE, TAKING CARE NOT TO FOLD THE SPINE

Be very careful to maintain the curve along the spine. Don’t be too forceful in opening up the pages. If the spine threatens to fold/snap in the centre, then let the centre pages be. The book probably has been bound too tight.

STEP 7: FLIP THE PAGES FRONT TO BACK A FEW TIMES

Flip through front to back and back to front. This will even out the pages of the book while loosening the spine some more. Now when you open up the book to read, the spine will curve instead of crack.

Okay so I got this next level scary post from Tumblr today as if I had broken the law?? Something about 84 Russian accounts uncovered as they were closely tied to the the Russian government.

Heres the sketchy email:

Dear tom-mumford,

As part of our commitment to transparency, we want you to know that we uncovered and terminated 84 accounts linked to Internet Research Agency or IRA (a group closely tied to the the Russian government) posing as members of the Tumblr community.

The IRA engages in electronic disinformation and propaganda campaigns around the world using phony social media accounts. When we uncovered these accounts, we notified law enforcement, terminated the accounts, and deleted their original posts.

While investigating their activity on Tumblr, we discovered that you either followed one of these accounts linked to the IRA, or liked or reblogged one of their posts:

Sixth Form Mocks 2018

The worst. mocks. ever. 

The new exam officer, which you would think would’ve had lots of training changed the mock timetable around 3 times. Each of these times there being different mock clashes. Not what you want when having to revise and study for these important mocks. 

History

What an awful mock. Not only were we all pushed to one side of the room, we were also given the completely wrong paper! I am In year 12 and was given a year 13 paper with the year 12 over? Thoughts going trough my head after that mock were�� 

“Gosh that was hard”

“WHAT THE F**K”

And with the year 12 and 13 courses both being on Hitler, It was almost impossible to distinguish between the two papers.

So what did they make me do? Give me my predicted grade? Of course not… because thats the type of twits they are. I had to do it AGAIN in my OWN TIME for the two hours. Im not being funny but since when did students get punished for teachers mistakes? NEVER. This is pathetic and made me so so angry. And worst of all, I actually learnt everything that was on the paper, so I would’ve done fine. But knowing that I did the wrong paper before, totally put me off.

tl;dr

My school hired an awful exam officer that couldn’t see the difference between the number 12 an 13.
