Justice League CPR Protocols
cw: medical procedures such as but not limited to cpr, generally death and resuscitation
look, i’m a paramedic, neurodivergent and a nerd. reading a fic about one of my favorite characters receiving cpr is definitely going to spark a little something in my brain. this is right up my alley so strap in for a discussion of cpr logistics within the justice league. i will probably come back to this post several times to add more details and i am happy to answer any hypothetical questions that could come up while you read! i’m assuming that bruce is the mastermind behind the cpr protocols, because it fits his need for contingencies (keeping others alive is just as important as knowing how to take them down, after all)
let’s start with the groundwork and you’ll be surprised to find out that it’s consent forms and paper work. the justice league is a non government organization whose goal it is to keep peace, to protect earth from threats that are more than dangerous. exposing yourself to such threats comes with risks, such as bodily harm, resulting psychological issues and, you guessed it, death. this isn’t about everyone making sure they have their will written and notarized, this is purely about medical consent forms.
even with secret identities, there will have to be a work around for emergency contacts. new heroes will need to submit yourself to medical testing to establish a baseline for comparison if need be. they’ll also need to consent to mandatory biofeedback for their costumes - at least for justice league missions. and they will need to fill out consent forms. cpr yes or no? how far should invasive medical procedures go in this case, do they have a preferred hospital and are there certain points at which they will want to be transferred to said hospital regardless of whether or not the JL can manage their condition at the watchtower?
just imagine how that very first medical debrief meeting went after the justice league formed. being confronted with your possible death right after forming a team based on hope for humanity and the goodness of other heroes? that’s a mood killer. bruce, in full costume, standing at the head of the table and explaining why you need to consent to get revived if necessary? that’s not a decision for a random evening like that.
secondly, to get a bit more technical: how the f*** do you perform cpr on metahumans/aliens?!
that one requires planning. it’s easy for the human members of the team, the AHA/ERC guidelines are pretty clear on what to do, what not to do and they all share the same opinion. and everyone gets mandatory cpr and first aid training, not only for each other but first and foremost for civilians. (let me get back to mass casualty events and medical care during those at a different point)
bruce considers getting professional eCPR training (ecmo cpr is shown to provide a better patient outcome, especially neurologically) but he can’t be sure that he’ll get a eCPR team mobilized during a mission like that but he’s not done considering that option yet. he has other things to sort out first.
like how to do proper cpr on a speedster? they have so quick metabolisms, their resting heartrate is so much higher than a humans, do they require specific cpr methods? it’s not like there is any data to go on and bruce can’t really do a study on his teammates. but you’ll have to assume that their cells will be quicker to die because of the incredibly high metabolic rate. how do you incorporate bloodsugar management like that into prehospital cpr? how long can a speedster withstand cardiac arrest and are they more prone to hyperdynamic arrests (shockable rhythms)? surely the accelerated healing factors of metas need an alive body to work, they can’t work on a dead one.
similarly for clark and diana. sure, they have insane regenerative abilities, but to what extent can they be expected to work? and how would that be supported in cases of death? are they able to regenerate from death, at all? how could anyone possibly test that.
there are just a lot of questions that need to be asked and hopefully can be answered but there just isn’t a simple solution, is there?
the medical testing and mandatory biofeedback for suits. how else would they be able to help each other, if they didn’t notice their teammate sying during a missions? no one would be able to walk away from that, the justice league would likely break apart over guilt. everyone needs some sort of biofeedback in their suits, let it just be a pulse-ox for heartrate and saturation levels, that’s enough to know whether or not someone is in critical need of help for starters.
but that also means someone will have to keep their eye on that, or simpler but less safe: bruce (or babs, let’s be real here) could programm a warning system that would automatically notify other teammembers of a sudden drop/spike in heartrate that exceeds set (individual) limits. and that’s, once again, a consent and data safety issue.
making sure your teammates stay alive really is more complicated than it looks.
but the real kicker? everyone can die. it’s just that the humans of this team are way more susceptible to death than everyone else. these cpr protocols are important for everyone, yes, but isn’t it fun to realize just how breakable a human is? even if they come back from the dead without any superpowers to aid them, which is amazing of it’s own right. what do you mean, you’ll never be the same if we don’t start cpr as soon as possible? what do you mean, if we wait more than 10 minutes we can just let them die because there’s just little to no chance of a favorable outcome? and what even is that?
and those are just three aspects of the entire clusterfuck that could be JL cpr protocols. there’s so much potential heartbreak in this whole concept and it’s so incredibly intriguing to me.
steeling yourself to break your teammates ribs if it comes down to it… isn’t a great thought.

‼️NOT THAT BIG OF A SPOILER FOR THE NEW SUPERMAN MOVIE BUT STILL‼️
The funniest thing about the new Superman movie was that the civilians of Metropolis fled to Gotham out of all places to not be in danger 😭

#superman#corensupes#superman spoilers#metropolis#gotham#evacuating to gotham is literally insane#oh there’s a rift going through the city#guess i’ll go to the other city where i’m in risking getting fear gassed#or maybe exposed to joker toxin#maybe poisin ivy is there too!#i guess getting smashed by bane on a rampage is better than falling into a black hole beneath metropolis

Lois Lane rage-baiting Superman, questioning everything, having a conspiracy board presentation to her boss, piloting a spaceship is so kickass and having the “You always wanna see the beauty in everyone that you met and you want to take care of the world. But who’s looking after you? (I will.)” dynamic with Clark Kent and saving his martyr-ass IS SO FIRE. Her character and relationship with Clark had me smiling so goddamn wide.

i know i’m obsessing about it, but so help me god, BRUCE LOOKING UP AT A FLOATING SUPERMAN.
i do not care about the circumstance, i do not care whether or not they’re on good terms while it happens, i don’t care what bruce persona is looking up at a floating superman, i just care that he does.
it’s one of the reasons why i enjoy that scene from BvS so much, where bruce saves the little girl and looks up at clark fighting general zod. the fierce anger translates so well. he’s just a human man, kneeling down on the ground, witnessing unprecedented destruction by two aliens flying through the sky and his sole thought is “how can i drag him back down to earth.”
his plan starts forming right then and there, anger and the burning desire for justice settling deep in his gut as he is forced to look up at the being that is the cause for this much destruction. it’s demeaning and it only solidifies his ambition to take superman down.
but then again, in a whole different scenario/universe: brucie wayne, with a champagne flute in his hand, looking up at a hovering superman, who just finished his special guest speech at a charity gala in metropolis. silent admiration hidden in his eyes, beyond the trademark flirty smirk. looking up and knowing he gets to bark orders at this superpowered superior being when dressed as batman. knowing, that despite everything, superman is still just a guy susceptible to basic human interactions because that poorly contained blush was real, when he hit on the hero just now. looking up at someone who could crush him with no effort at all, and knowing that, despite everything, there’s still power he holds over superman.
bruce, as batman, looking up at superman after a hard won battle. both bruised and battered but victorious. feeling pride at getting to work with someone so good. feeling relief, that they’re on the same side of this fight. looking up at a floating clark and knowing that deep down, they’re not that different from each other. looking up and knowing that clark will descend from where he’s floating to help anyone, just out of the goodness of his heart. looking up and knowing that they’re equals.
batman, looking up with an angry snarl, standing at the edge of a roof and ordering superman to stay out of his city. hand itching to go for the compartment of his utility belt where the kryptonite is hidden. feeling the disadvantage he has over the superhero as the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. looking up and steeling himself for the possibility of a fight, readying himself to drop into a fighting stance, depending on how the other hero takes this open sign of mistrust.
BRUCE GETTING SAVED BY SUPERMAN AND LOOKING UP AT THE HERO WHO CAUGHT THE PIECE OF DEBRIS THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO CRUSH HIM.
#i’m sorry for the rambling i’m not great with words#batman#bruce wayne#superbat#superman#clark kent#batman headcanon#the symbolism of look up to someone is so special to me in all and any circumstances#don’t get me started on clark needing to look up at bruce under certain occasions#honestly ben affleck being taller than henry cavill was what really got me in BvS because the feeling of superiority bruce mustve gotten-#i’m not okay about these two#BATTINSON LOOKING UP AT THE HELICOPTER SAVING THE LITTLE GIRL BUT MAKE IT SUPERMAN CARRYING HER AWAY#i’d be dead#looking up#as a symbol

I have to resurrect my tumblr from the dead for my thoughts on the new Superman movie:
THIS WAS AN AMAZING MOVIE. THAT WAS SUPERMAN.
He’s corny, he’s midwestern, he’s a nerd and everyone kind of bullies him for it. He says things like “what the hay dude” or “I’m punk rock- I’m totally punk” completely seriously. He takes several extra precious seconds to save a squirrel. He’s ready to fly headfirst into danger to save his dog because the dog’s probably “scared and all alone” even though it’s not a particularly good dog all the time. He loves his parents. He has bad band posters hanging in his childhood bedroom. He takes the time to calm a lady on a rooftop in the middle of a fight. He cares.
As for the actual plot- it’s really difficult to make a Superman movie feel high stakes, especially while trying to keep it real. In the comics Superman gets into situations it would be nearly impossible to show on screen, like fighting in front of a black hole, but somehow this movie makes it work. James Gunn tapped into his experience making Guardians of the Galaxy and it shows in the best way possible. You find yourself wondering how in the world Superman is going to win- and that’s what makes this such an amazing superhero movie.
Superman’s true weakness isn’t kryptonite, it’s thinking and planning ahead. All the villains that beat him in the comics match his brawn, but have the brains to get an edge and have better fight strategy. All superman knows is that “people were going to die” and since he’s such an unbelievably GOOD guy, that’s all that matters to him. We saw it when the “justice gang” was helping him fight the alien monster and we saw it in Louis’s interview. When you have a superhero with barely any weaknesses, you need something more than the threat of losing a fight to make him interesting.
Now for Lex- no notes. He was brilliantly written. It can be difficult to take his character seriously, but that speech at the end where he was screaming to be recognized because, to him, humanity’s ability to overcome odds and achieve through innovation is critical and Superman’s existence risks overshadowing that? That was deadly serious.
Last serious note- I’m glad they kept it political. The United States government being scared of an alien and the threat of invasion despite the fact that Superman has done nothing but help them? A billionaire approaching the government to encourage foreign intervention because it will allow him to profit? A foreign power that the U.S. is officially allied to even though everyone knows they’ve committed horrible war crimes but nobody actually KNOWS that and the smaller neighbor they’re threatening to wipe out in order to “free” them from an oppressive regime? Superman declaring that he’s just like everyone else, that he’s human too and that’s his greatest strength? The idea of radical love? Yeah.
FINAL NOTE: I think that a scene from this movie sums up what I got from it very well. It’s when Louis is talking about how Clark isn’t punk rock. She says that he trusts everyone he’s ever met and he thinks that everyone is beautiful. And he responds: “maybe that’s punk rock.” He’s right. It is. And that’s Superman.
Anyways…good movie. Go watch it.

excuse me for stating the obvious but like. james gunn outright calling superman an immigrant and doubling down on it when he got backlash (because he IS an immigrant, that's the point of superman) + the in-movie dialogue of "aren't you going to read me my rights?" "you're an extraterrestrial, son. you haven't got any rights to read." + the violence of his arrest and how they torture and mistreat him unapologetically, all under the guise of "protecting america", in a film releasing during the onslaught of violent ICE kidnappings and abuse... yeah it's really no wonder right-wing knobheads are crying about this being woke. they're being forced to look directly at the reasons one of the most notorious heroes of all time would not be on their side. and that's only ONE of the reasons this movie covers
#dc#superman 2025#superman spoilers#superman#modern heroes have political origins#people just like to forget them#he’s an alien against genocide and right wing dickheads are offended by that#for what????#get over your bigotry and realize you’re in the wrong lmao#oh no this movie is putting current happenings into a different perspective and it shows how badly people get treated

The thing about a really good ship is I need it to be equal parts sweet and fucked up. It's like a lemonade. you want it half sour and half sweet because the two flavors are complementary. The love needs to be there so it can wreck their lives or they need to be wrecks so they can fall in love

Bruce Wayne has been secretly joining all the tea parties thrown by the mothers in Dick's class. He just woke up yesterday with an injured child acrobat in the next room and he needs some guidance. So he's taking this on as part of his new routine. The ladies of the tea party? absolutely adore him.
Linda: Yeah, so I said "No, honey, you can't break the rules we've set. I have to keep my word and you have to keep yours." So I had to ground him for a week.
Bruce, writing down intently: And what did he say?
Linda, fully aware that she is raising the parent in this man: He got upset and slammed doors and threw a bit of a tantrum, but then that evening he apologized for his behavior and we cuddled on the couch and talked about our feelings.
Bruce: Oh.
(Fifteen years later, when Damian enters the academy, he is the head of the tea party and he is the one giving the advice. His children will never know.)

This Superman is such a sweetie. He’s kind to the robots. He makes his girlfriend breakfast for dinner. He pretends he doesn’t care what social media thinks of him but gets genuinely upset over juvenile name calling. He tortured a despot with a cactus but the spines “weren’t that big.” He tries to capture the giant monster alive. He loves people and does his best to help them and he’s not an idiot he knows people are complicated, but he’s genuinely heartbroken when they turn on him. The idea of him having a harem is utterly ridiculous. He loses it over a pain-in-the-ass dog. He makes fun of the despot for pissing his pants. He wept at seeing an innocent man murdered. His open devastation over Mali’s murder is part of what brings Metamorpho to take the risk of helping him. He saves that weird baby. He saves a squirrel. He not only would not fuck his clone, he killed him. He makes that shithead Lex cry. His flirting with Lois is so swagless and unsubtle that her boss immediately clocks that they’re together. He loves his parents. He’s good all the way down, not because he was born that way but because he chooses to be.

if i could go through with writing fanfiction and not just fantasizing about what i would write, i would have already established a dominating ao3 presence for both superbat and fratt. sadly, i am very insecure about my writing and unable to finish started projects.
as possibly embarrassing as it is, i started roleplaying on instagram as a teenager and still do so my writing is just very roleplay catered. i can’t, for the life of me, write something that resembles a story without the input of someone else, i feel.
and i really, truly wish i could just go ahead and write my goddamn heart out about all these silly little ideas i have but no, they shall rot in my notes and die along with my motivation as soon as i actually think about starting to write a fanfic.
#is this relateable? i’m honestly just disappointed in my lack of discipline#writing struggles#maybe it’s the autism in me but everytime i want words to make sense they don’t#i simply cannot make the symbolism that manifests in my brain turn out decent when written out
