Kubo Kisara / Kisara Clearwater
What if Kisara would also have been reborn in modern times. Read my version of her story under the cut. And find out how the fourth Blue-eyed white Dragon got repaired (no shipping!):
She is a designer and illustrator for Duel Monsters cards. As a freelancer, she occasionally repairs broken or worn-out cards as a side business. Kisara started off strongly at Industrial Illusions but was kicked out for trying to release cards behind the executives’ backs.
She's a cheerful but eccentric character—far more devoted to her work and to Duel Monsters than is probably healthy. (I wanted her personality to contrast with her ancient past, similar to Yugi-Atem or Kaiba-Seto.)
Then, by coincidence, she learns that the fourth Blue-Eyes White Dragon card was indeed destroyed—but still exists, in broken form, in the hands of a small game shop.
Her story begins either before or after the events of Dark Side of Dimensions.
Kisara has always felt a deep, inner drive to find something within the Duel Monsters Game, but over the years she’s never quite figured out what it was. So she keeps creating new cards—hoping one day to unlock the key to her inner unrest.
Kisara has always been fascinated by that card, even though she’s never seen it played herself—only on TV, where Seto Kaiba was once again celebrating himself. What a smug bastard he must be. Not that she’d ever meet him in person… right?
Well… not quite.
And Kisara starts crying.
Kisara actually visits Mr. Muto’s shop and begs him to show her the broken card.
He refuses a few times—until she nearly breaks down in frustration. (She’s not proud of it, but she feels that this is important—it has to be done.) Eventually, he lets her take a look.
So much beauty. So much grace, power… and something else—something old. Ancient. Broken. Destroyed by the hands of the very man who claimed to love this monster more than anyone else.
It breaks her heart and Kisara pleads to repair the card.
Again, Mr. Muto refuses. This time, there's nothing she can do to change his mind.
“What’s done is done,” he says. “This card isn’t any less important to me, broken or not.”
She understands, apologizes for overstepping, and leaves.
Eventually, she returns to the shop. Just then, a new delivery arrives and Mr. Muto is briefly distracted.
Weeks pass. But Kisara can’t stop thinking about that beautiful... but broken dragon.
She dreams about it, strange dreams. In them, the dragon is part of her and it let cities burn burn to ashes.
And there’s a man. Someone important to her. Someone bound to her soul. He was crying.
“I mean… I’ll fix it and return it. Once he sees my work, he’ll be happy.” she told herself. So she steals the Blue-Eyes White Dragon and leaves.
Back in her small workshop, Kisara begins restoring the card. She works like a maniac—hours and hours slipping by unnoticed.
And then… it's done.
She knows there’s just one thing left to do.
Kisara stares at the newly restored Blue-Eyes White Dragon in awe.
It feels like looking into a mirror. Something inside her shifts.
It all feels like a dream. Her body moves on its own. She packs her special deck—including the restored Blue-Eyes and her unreleased cards—and heads to KaibaCorp.
Of course, she’s not allowed inside.
He calls his brother immediately—and, being the sweetheart he is, also contacts Yugi to ask about the whereabouts of his grandfather’s card.
But destiny is on her side. Mokuba just happens to be in the entrance hall.
And when he sees the card in her hand, he’s shocked. That can’t be possible.
Seto Kaiba storms into the entrance hall.
(Deep down, Kaiba has always regretted what he did—he tore a part of himself apart with that card.)
The fourth dragon… has returned.
It shouldn’t be possible.
Kisara challenges him to a duel.
Kaiba scoffs. “Why should I duel some random stanger?”
But she argues that the dragon needs to be played properly—fully—and that maybe Kaiba is just afraid of what she’s created with her deck.
Meanwhile, Yugi confirms to Mokuba that the card was stolen and that he will be on his way.
Mokuba suggests calling the police, but Seto holds him back.
This woman… has his attention.
Kisara doesn’t care and agrees. She just has one goal now.
He makes her a deal:
“If you beat me, you walk away. No consequences. But if you lose… you’ll wish you never set foot in my company.”
They head to the duel arena while Mokuba waits for Yugi and his friends.
From the start, the duel is one-sided. Kaiba is impressed with Kisara’s deck—her creativity, her card design—but she’s clearly just an average duelist. No real challenge.
Then he summons all three Blue-Eyes White Dragons to eventually take Kisara down with his full power, sh so desperatly wanted to see.
That’s when Kisara makes her move.
She summons her Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
Just then, Yugi and the others arrive.
At that exact moment, something shifts. Dimensions blur. Something ancient reconnects.
All the dragons are together again.
The duel ends with Kisara’s loss.
And so is Kisara’s soul.
And to his shock, also part of Kaibas'.
A voice deep within him whispers: “My light has returned.”
She accepts it without complaint. It was all worth it.
She bows deeply to Yugi, apologizing and returning the Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
Mr. Muto decides to let it go. Moved by how well card has been restored, and how sincere Kisara’s apology was. (As we see in GX.)
And Yugi understands. The card was calling to her.
Kaiba watches the whole thing silently. He thought that since he first saw that weird woman. Something seems... familiar.... but he quickly dismissed those thoughts. That can't be true anyway.
Still, he's intrigued by Kisara’s designs. Weeks later, he reaches out to hire her.
Eventually, when Kaiba travels to the afterlife to meet Atem, Kisara calls KaibaCorp to talk about the new card designs.
They become close—strangely matchig each others freak, some would say.
Driven. Innovative. Sarcastic.
(And yes, they even hit the gym together. Back pain is real for artist.)
But it's just Mokuba on the phone who tells her that his brother might not be back for a while.
She start laughing loudly. “That stupid mad dog.”
(Bonus: I imagine Yugi also gets in touch with her to help design some of his new games.)

Same love, 20 years apart
Since I got newly obsessed with Yu-Gi-Oh! I thought it would be nice to pay my tribute to the reason I started to draw so many years ago. Without YGO I wouldn't have pursued this hobby and haven't met so many of my best friends. I'm truly grateful. <3

indicted as a werewolf, burned as a vampire
This is like my most procrastinated project ever. I first came up with this idea like 6 years ago. But i didn't had the skills to bring it down. But after seeing Powerwolf this year again and witnessed Falk Maria Schlegel burned on stage, I wanted to finally tackle this piece.
Inspired by Falk Maria Schlegel from the power metal band Powerwolf.
