"The human face is a weak guarantee; yet it deserves some consideration. And if I had to whip the wicked, I would do so more severely to those who belied and betrayed the promises that nature had implanted on their brows; I would punish malice more harshly when it was hidden under a kindly appearance."

・❥・ Why we should read books deemed problematic ・❥・
"Knowing all this before we went back in time, met Wharton, and discovered that some of her opinions were abhorrent, we'd be prepared". This quote justifies the need to continue reading banned books that are deemed problematic because there are a majority of underlying circumstances under an opinion made by an author. Readers and writers live in different worlds, centered around different time periods along with their own set of beliefs. It is contradictory to deny a book due to opinions that have been made a while ago. True inclusivity is the respect of an opinion, not the rejection of what is deemed controversial. The piece of evidence above scrutinizes that if we were in the same world the author lived in, then perhaps we could see through the lenses of the author and understand the context behind their opinions.

・❥・ The Credibility of Nick Carraway ・❥・
Nick's credibility diminishes as it is very evident that he is fond of Gatsby. There is this gradual transition where Nick grows a sudden distaste for his East Egg acquaintances. In my opinion, Nick's admiration may be the values Gatsby embodies since people of the lost generation dropped tradition values and indulged in hedonistic lifestyles filled with self-indulgence. Gatsby may seemed like a fresh breath of air with his hope and optimism. His ability to dream may have also inspired a lifeless Nick who has been a witness to many stories. If there was another narrator, they wouldn't have been able to create meaning to the story as Nick did. Nick is the middle man. He has connections to both sides of society; the posh and the dirty. He indirectly knows everyone's secrets and goals. Without him, the story wouldn't have been as developed. I think what Nick means that he is unbiased is his ability to not spill secrets and refrain from bias when talking to people. He just listens. But with Gatsby, he actually starts developing his own thoughts and perceptions to the story. "The Great Gatsby" is Nick's awakening.

・❥・ Discussion Question of The Day: Is it possible to forgive a person of all of their faults when in love? (Inspired by A Streetcar Named Desire) ・❥・
Tumblr media
In my opinion, when a person is in love it is possible to forgive someone of all their faults big and small(Not that I agree!). I'd say a person is out of the bounds of reality and inclined to gravitate towards the side of the person they love no matter their faults. A person can get to extreme lengths and create illusions to convince themselves of staying kind of like an ailment. But that is up to the person's interpretation of love and how they choose to deal with the conplex feelings of love. I do think its possible for a person to believe that their loved one is free of faults because of the bias they exhibit. To me, I feel like that an unhealthy bias is a sign of ailment or dependency. It also matters of the faults a person commits and the lengths someone is willing to compromise. Personally, I've seen people shun other people out of their lives completely to keep up with their beliefs and this leads to the question of making judgements of relationships outside. In my opinion, it's similar to the concept of consent. When you talk to a person, you need to ask if they want advice or to just talk. Not everyone wants insight on their relationships and it is best to just keep out of it unless it is life threatening.

・❥・ The Relationship of Stella, Blanche and Stanley- A Streetcar Named Desire ・❥・
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The dynamic of their relationship is complicated as Stella is in between both Stanley and Blanche. She shares a past with Blanche in Belle Reve but her future is with Stanley where they share the same carnal desires. I feel that Stella has to gravitate towards her husband and Stella to compromise many times. For a fraction of the book, it seemed like her loyalties were with Blanche which threatened her relationship with Stanley as seen in chapters 1-3. I mostly sympathize with Stella as she is pushed aside by both her husband and sister. She is treated like a serviceman in their conflicts where she either fetches Blanche a drink or goes outside in frustration from Stanley’s antics. Secondly, I would say Blanche because even though her mannerisms and demeanor are not the most polite, it is definitely an upgrade from Stanley. Blanche is a character who seems to have gone through and seen a lot but she doesn’t inherit the traits of a typical protagonist or hero. I’d classify her as some sort of anti-hero whose moral compass isn’t very developed. For my interpretation of Stanley, it would be that he has an intense hatred of Blanche and I believe it is because of her past and association with Belle Reve that Stanley feels inferior due to their difference in social status and wealth. He probably thinks Blanche sees him as a fool and utilizes her charm on him just like she has in the past but all of her attempts thus far are in vain. Stanley is sort of impenetrable when it comes to Blanche’s illusions.  Blanche is feigning superiority with her mannerisms, charm, and implications of her beauty. Knowing Stanley, Blanche is a threat to their household and in the earlier chapters stated that he would have made so many assumptions about her if she weren’t his wife’s sister.

⭐️Fahrenheit 451—Technology, Society & Life
Tumblr media
“The production of too many useful things results in too many useless people.” ― Karl Marx. This quote is the embodiment of the society visualized in Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. Fahrenheit 451 takes place in a dystopian society where the government mandates censorship. As a result, the people in this society veto books and unauthorized content. Books are illegal which means they have to be eradicated. How can a book cease to exist? Burning; The duty of firemen is to burn books not put out fires. The people have screens, seashell radios, and other devices of technology to keep themselves occupied. Eliminating books is quintessential to making sure no human is knowledgeable than the other and making sure conflict is avoided amongst humans due to personal opinions. It also prevents humans from feeling emotions such as anger, grief, frustration, and etc. Opinions are not just a judgment, they are a power. Technology is utilized to nullify these human traits resulting in lack of creativity, culture, identity, and thinking/independent thought.

✨My favorite places to write!✨—Top 3
Tumblr media
⭐️ Medium- I tend to keep copies of my essays and save drafts of future projects. It’s simple to use and straight to the point. Formatting isn’t as tedious either!
⭐️ Google Docs- A staple for me where I write anything and everything! It’s the home to my poems, rants, and goals. Google Docs to me is very versatile and multi-functional. From class work to personal projects, Google Docs is a great pal of mine!
⭐️ Notes- The default notes app in every person’s device! I use notes to set reminders, to-do lists, late night ideas, school notes, and a few stories! It’s very minimalist yet accessible for all types of writing!

My very first high school narrative!
It’s endearing going back and seeing how much I’ve changed! This was me at the beginning of freshman year. My writing style has changed as well! In a matter of week’s, I’ll be a Junior<3
Tumblr media
She had a unique name; she adored poetry; she wrote in the same format as me; her favorite subject was math; she was one of the brightest students in the class; and she loved to run. She was another carbon copy of me. yet more sociable, where I was more quiet and cordial. I noticed how she would accentuate her responses with opinions and summaries. She took every opportunity to add on and comment, even if it was a meaningless "I agree" or nod. Compared to her, I was monotonous.
"I’m sitting with two of the smartest people in the class." "You're second to her, though." My pupils shrank, and the world around me paused. It hasn't been the first time I've been reminded. I had never been good enough. I could never express myself clearly. My voicebox was tangled, and it refused to utter a single word. The only thing I could do was smile, nod, and utter "hm." I waited for the long-awaited announcement to signify the end of school. Grasping my book bag, I waited for my friend to enter the classroom so we could go home together. She came in a matter of seconds and had a lot of stories to tell. Today I would smile while tomorrow I would celebrate the results of the test.
Three sheets of stapled paper were given back to me by my math teacher. I yearned for a perfect score on this exam. It would take just one incorrect answer to shatter my mentality; just one more point so that there could be a clear dichotomy between who was of higher-caliber. My fingers grasped the corners of my exam and I flipped the crisp white paper over to see the result of my labor. 100%. A small breath of relief escaped my lips. The students around me had gotten their results. One boy, whose exit ticket I graded nearly two months ago had gotten the same perfect score; he had cheated off friends. The three pieces of paper my hands grasped onto no longer had meaning.
