I signed the lease on my first gallery. The 1905 cottage will double as a new home for my mom and I. While ultimately we've found a way of turning a housing crisis into a positive next step, the move has been extremely difficult for my mom. She has mild to moderate dementia but the disruption has flared her symptoms, significantly. The situation around the move was also quite traumatic. She misses the garden she worked in daily.

Almost all of my energy has been devoted to managing her needs. My gallery opening is getting pushed and pushed. I have to sell enough artwork to pay the plumber to install laundry hookups, buy a washer and dryer and still make rent on the first, since it's painfully certain I won't be able to make any in-person sales during September.

This is important. When I was trying to get published back in my teens, I thought I found a good publishing company.

A good friend warned me about their tactics.

This company would've charged me 2,000 dollars to publish my stuff.

Don't fall for it. This is a warning to all new authors.

This is a friendly reminder to never, ever publish your book with a publishing company that charges you to publish with them. That is a vanity press, which makes money by preying on authors. They charge you for editing, formatting, cover art, and more. With most of these companies, you will never seen a cent of any royalties made from sale of your book. A legitimate publishing company only makes money when you make money, they will never charge you to publish with them. If a company approaches you and says "Hey, we'll publish your book, just pay us X amount of money," tell them to go fuck themself and block them.

I find it weird how the letters have been rather uniform until now. Unlike the others, there is a space between the A and M. And yet, there is no space between the Y and S.

Why break a routine that has been established from the beginning?

A simple mistake? Or something else?
