he forgot his gym cloths, star brings a spare and tells Kwan to put it in his locker

after a while they discover a way to be protective about him without it being suspicious. turned out, being a ghost around people who aren’t familiar with them scares them.

AKA danny scares them

they started the rumour and he became a school favourite, brings school wins in sports and the A-listers can protect their phantom.

Watched the live action HTTYD. Now I’m not usually one for live action stuff, but seeing how it was created by Universal and not Disney I decided to give it a fair shot.

Y’all. It’s good. It shares a LOT of scenes from the og movie, yeah, but it also has it own scenes and characterizations of the characters.

[SPOILERS]

Astrid is less angry towards hiccup at the beginning and is more angry with the entire group, Fishlegs and hiccup has more of a friendship thanks to their nerdy personality, and Snotlout has a real reason for him to being a dick (shitty father- just like what the HTTYD Race to the edge animated series did lol). I like how the other characters get more screen time, and I like how they develop hiccup and Astrid’s relationship more before the kiss scene. Hiccups dad was just like the og to the tea though.

The live action series has some background Asian, black, and a few other different races and I like how they explain that. It’s implied that Berk is a sort of melting pot of the best dragon hunters of their side of the archipelago. I also like how they highlight this though showcasing stoic’s leadership skills by using this information to build up the teams drive to go and find the nest of the dragons at the beginning of the movie. Very smooth.

The dragons look very fuckin cool and ugly (in a good way) they weren’t shying away from making a few of them scary looking. They kept the darker plot points and even highlight how hiccups mother “died” by the hands of dragons. The cgi didn’t hurt my brain so I’d say that’s a win.

Hiccup himself is definitely a bit more angry in this movie at the beginning. This version of hiccup is stoics son alright, anger issues with that hardheaded mindset lol

Interesting how they chose to make tuffnut more of a “girls girl” it’s definitely different but I don’t hate it tbh.

Astrid is not blond tho, but I do like how you can see that she has blond strands in her brown hair. I feel like that was a nice call back.

One thing I didn’t like was how they were inconsistent with toothless eyes? Like the slit eyes are meant for distrusts but they really kinda flip flop near the beginning tbh. Very odd.

Music is slay, very slay. Very slay.

Overall in terms of its own movie, 8/10

As a remake, total 8/10

Maybe Disney should take some notes lol (or we can just stop this live action charade in general and go back to original animated movies but with the way these companies keep fucking up the marketing of all the new animated movies we’ll see how that goes <3)

edit: WAIT! Just forgot they COMPLETELY forgot the scene where hiccup figures out dragons are not so fireproof, so gonna have to bump down that number broskis. That.
