Hi.

This is going to be an interesting post, so I would like to start off by saying that if you are still following me/checking on my blog/interacting with my content after my very very long period of inactivity, then thank you. I appreciate it, even thought I probably haven’t been the most interesting blog to follow, content wise anyway.

I would like to apologize for said lack of inactivity. It has been almost a year and a half since I last wrote anything for my blog, and that means many asks in my inbox have been there for a whopping 16 months or longer. There have been many things I’ve wanted to do, and for some reason I just…can’t. Whumptober was one of them. I had many ideas for it, and it never happened. Same with Whumpcember. I hyped myself up for it, only to realize that on the first day of December, there was no way I could possibly do it. I’ve had finals creep up at the last minute, and also my artistic abilities are not anywhere close to where I would like them to be.

I…honestly don’t know what to say. I’m frustrated with myself, and I’m disappointed. I created this blog to be something fun; I wanted to make my favorite type of content for my favorite game, but actually sitting down, thinking, writing is just so hard. I love writing, I really do, but I have a hard time actually doing it. And I’ve let a lot of people down. I don’t know anymore if it’s just my procrastination or perfectionism getting in the way, or if I’m just not meant to write.

It’s frustrating to want to do something and just…not be able to do it. No matter how hard you try.

But! I’m not giving up. This is not goodbye. This is final desperate attempt to get my act together and figure out just how to do this. Maybe I jumped into it too fast, making a blog on a whim and just trying to roll with it. I’ve never used tumblr before I made my blog, and it’s still taken a while to get used to everything. But I want to keep my blog, even if that means trying some new ideas. Posting my own works instead of sticking specifically to asks might be a good idea.

So in conclusion, I’m taking the month of December to figure this out. Improve my art skills, tackle a lot of those asks, maybe even dig out some of my old WIPs and introduce those to the (small) Genshin whump community. I want to enjoy my blog, and I want to make more content that I enjoy.

January 1, 2023, I will be back and posting, hopefully semi-consistently. Whether it’s asks, my own works, or art, it will be something. I promise. So thank you for your patience, and I hopefully won’t disappoint you. I look forward to seeing what the new year brings, and hopefully it is a lot of new ideas and motivation.

On my Scaramouche brain rot era.

Kinda wanna make a fic in which Dottore is researching Scara’s body. Nobody has told us yet how the fuck Ei managed to make her puppets or why Katherine exists and is allowed to exist when it’s been said the research of any type of machines who emulate or display human behaviors or bio machines is strictly prohibited.

So, naturally we know Jack shit about Scara’s body. Besides knowing he can emulate breathing tho he doesn’t need or do it. Same with shogun. They both have thoughts but Shogun is following a program with strict guidelines while Katherine is literally only following her program. But why the fuck does Scara have so much personality? Why does he have emotions?

That would be too messy to get into in such a game, but his body is what makes me actually curious. Is he doll like? The texture is porcelain, or is it wood, or is it cool metal? And if none of this are true, does he bleed? Does he feel pain? Does he even need to be repaired from time to time? We saw he has something inside of him that heats up if he uses too much energy, but then, what kind of mechanism is under his “skin”?

Kinda wanna whump him while strapped in a table and know how he reacts to that.

Introducing Whumpcember 2022!

Everyone's heard of Whumptober or Febuwhump, Angstpril or Sicktember, but get ready for Whumpcember! Whumpcember is pretty much exactly like Whumptober or Febuwhump, except in December.

Whumpcember is born out of a love of monthly whump challenges but with zero time to complete them. I also want to complete these challenges, but never have the time! So I came to realize that, from an American perspective, December is the month I get the most time off. So, I decided to create this event for people who have too much time in December, but so little across the other 12 months. Of course, this is most definitely an American experience and not universal; so if you don't have free time during December it is still perfectly alright to participate! This event was just made to cure my December boredom, and anyone else's.

Now after that ramble, onto the actual rules:

I LOVE this trope. I’m already a huge vampire fanatic, and vampire whumpers opens up a whole new realm of ideas! A really powerful, intimidating whumper puts the whumpee in an even worse situation, especially when the vampire whumper needs something from them (in this case blood) or just gets attached in general. I really like the secrecy of vampire whumpers too…how much more interesting (and terrifying!) it can be for the whumpee as they learn more and more horrific secrets about their ancient captor the longer they’re stuck with them.

And whumpees being kept in huge abandoned castles? HECK. YEAH.

Honestly neutral on this one. Not at the top of my favorites list, but still far from the bottom! I feel like it works better when the whumper is the vampire instead due to the the power imbalance between humans and vampires. But there’s still plenty of potential for this trope, especially if the human is very powerful, or it’s a lab whump setting, or something like that. So while it’s not my favorite, it’s not bad at all, and I’ve actually seen some pretty good works with the concept!

In what may be one of my most controversial posts yet, I attempt to explain and process what the hell is up with the Sumeru leaks.

I do not expect to not be clowned for this.

Folks, you kinda jumped the gun on this one. Seriously. I have a few points to make on this and it may not be liked, but as a history enthusiast and someone who loves to learn, I have to clarify some things.

If I do get some things wrong, feel free to correct me on them! That's kind of the point here. I'm always ready to learn some more.

1.) Sumeru is somewhat based on the Abbasid Empire.

If people bothered to look at the content we've received about Sumeru so far and actually pay attention, you will be able to tell that there are Indian, Persian, and South Asian elements to the region as well as Middle Eastern. This is shown in the little bits of information that you can find here.

And if one looks at the reaches of Islamic empires throughout history, it will show that at some point, these elements have mixed, matched, or have come into contact with each other during the Islamic Age.

The picture below represents the reach of the Islamic Empire during its initial run from 622-750 CE under the Umayyads along with the Islamic Golden Age under the Abbasids.

The regions that are shown here include Egypt, Persia, the Arabian Peninsula, Northern Africa, Central Asia, India, Turkey, Iberia, and Central Asia, but they do not do justice to the spread of their culture and Islam at the same time periods.

(Please note that while the empires did not reach these areas the places shown were heavily influenced by Islamic culture and religion, thus forth making them majority Muslim at the time.)

And as you can see, South Asia is right there.

Now look at these maps compared to a modern map of the same areas and tell me with a straight face that this region wasn't diverse enough to hold multiple cultures besides Egyptian and Arabic.

This would not only explain the different regions featured in Sumeru concerning the characters but also why they may or may not look different and dress as such. I'll go into the really gritty bits about the dress later.

2.) The Baghdad House of Wisdom definitively inspired the Dendro Archon's basis as the Archon of Wisdom and Sumeru Academia

This point speaks for itself, but just to be sure people get it, the Baghdad House of Wisdom was considered the height of knowledge and intellect for centuries during the Islamic Golden age.

As the crown jewel of the capital of the Abbasid Empire, every nation in the known world and their rivals wanted a piece of what was in that place! We got math, language, science, stories, art, music, and all sorts of stuff from them. In fact, we have them to thank for preserving a good chunk of human knowledge, even with its destruction in 1258 by the Mongols.

Now, wisdom is typically defined as the application of knowledge and intellect combined with practical experience, which Sumeru may or may not have a lack of at the moment if Lisa brings this point up once or twice with the state of Sumeru's intellectual elite. This may or may not be the hinting of inspiration from the Abbasid Empire's decline due to bureaucratic corruption, heavy taxes, social strife, civil war, and the impending Mongol invasion.

With this, it's no mistake that Sumeru Academia and the area surrounding it sounds a hell of a lot like that intellectual haven and that it may or may not serve as a tragic future plot point.

3.) Dori's design does take some checkmarks for orientalism, but for less reasons than you think.

Yeah, you guys need to look at this first. You need fresh eyes.

First of all, I'm going to tell you to completely banish Disney's Aladdin from your mind. It holds no bearing on what I'm about to say. None. It's a cheap copy. Don't even process it, because I'm going to bring up the real inspiration of One Thousand and One Nights.

Contrary to popular belief, the stories contained in One Thousand and One Nights is not based in just the Middle East. There's actually a lot of it based in Persia and Mesopotamia as well as in India, South Asia, and some of China.

If the time period of this is to be believed (the book itself was published around the same Islamic Golden Age I keep bringing up), the style of dress was vastly different from what people think, and speaking of their style of dress, I'd like to introduce you all to something called the shalwar kameez.

The shalwar kameez is popular in Central and South Asia (Pakistan, India, Afghanistan) and As you can see, the bagginess of the bottom is very accurate, and given the established fact of Sumeru's basis, this dress has some historical basis and concrete reasons for it to exist.

Now, let's talk about the lamp. There is real basis for this to be a thing, but I need to clarify some things first. This lamp is based on an oil lamp and to be fair, the basic design for it being made of metal and its look stay true to its purpose and sticks to the regions discussed here. Bronze oil lamps of this look were definitely around.

Now I will briefly touch on the djinn. Djinn are classified as beings of elemental energy and naturally inclined to pranks, harmful or playful as well as possessing an unholy amount of power and knowledge. Djinn in Islamic canon have been known possess people, produce offspring with them, and be described as a force of good or evil.

In the tales within the One Nights, however, they are typically trapped in small objects, typically a ring or a lamp. The rubbing of either of those things can summon them out. In the tale "The Fishermen and the Jinni", the jinni (djinn) is the one to grant the fishermen three wishes, while in the tale "Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp", Aladdin acquires a djinn in a ring and a more powerful one in an oil lamp.

So the djinn in the lamp at its basis is not stereotypical at all as the idea of having an all-powerful being trapped by something relatively insignificant to its existence is common enough.

However, the overarching cry of what I believe the rest of the design is based on is something that I can see wholeheartedly. The 'dancer girl' top does not mesh at all with the time period described in detail and does indeed give to the stereotypical orientalism. This video goes more into length on that here.

So yes, there is issue with the dress and inspiration behind it, but it was not the egregious crime it was made out to be.

4.) I am personally terrified that appearances have such large precedence over personality with people in this fanbase.

We haven't met them. We don't know them. We have no idea what they're really like at all. And yet, despite this fact, everyone loses their shit once they aren't what they envisioned them to be based on what they look like. Even if they are pale as hell, why does it matter so much? Do I wish that they could consider that? Sure! Will it cripple my enjoyment? No!

As someone quite dark-skinned myself who has suffered constant mischaracterization and bullying at the hands of literally everyone around me for acting certain ways while looking the way I do, I find it puzzling and concerning that people are so quick to write people off because of the color of their skin as the very same thing has happened to me.

As a result, this point has to be made as controversial as it has become:

Culture does not equal looks and there is no difference between discriminating against skin colors because the basis of it is the same.

Let that sink in for a second.

People really call themselves 'not racist' and 'educated' and then they pull this kind of heinous shit in public discourse and pretend that it's completely okay because they looked white.

And I guarantee you that if they were dark-skinned, people would still call it racist for being 'the stereotype'. I've seen it happen and it will likely happen again. You can't please anyone anymore.

So those are my thoughts on the leaks and everyone's reactions to them. Feel free to agree, disagree, or do something in between because I don't care anymore. I'm tired of skin color determining everything here. It exhausts me.

my goodness those zhongli headcanons were so lovely!! may i request a follow up to that little scenario, perhaps some caretaking fluff…. i’m not sure who exactly the caretaker would be, childe, dr baizhu, etc etc, i just crave for that lovely man to get some care and comfort and rest ^^;

Hey, sorry this took so long to answer, but hopefully this is what you were looking for! I threw in a little angst, but our beautiful Zhongli finally gets the care he deserves. :)

Childe took the damp cloth from Zhongli’s forehead, placing it in the basin and wringing it out.

The young man shook his head at how much heat the rag had soaked up in just a few moments. His fever was getting worse. Baizhu had told him not to worry; he had cleaned every cut and abrasion he could find, while assuring him that a fever was nothing out of the ordinary. Nevertheless, it still concerned him. Zhongli’s temperature had risen significantly in the last few hours and he had no doubt it would continue to do so.

“Here…this should help with your headache.”

The harbinger carefully brushed dark, sweaty locks out of the way before pressing the wet cloth to his friend’s forehead. A soft moan of relief made his heart squeeze just a bit—he couldn’t imagine how much pain the poor man was in.

He placed his hand on Zhongli’s head, numbly stroking through the silky dark locks of hair. Only a few hours prior it had been matted and tangled with dried blood and muck. Baizhu’s little girl had spent over three hours shoving the several feet of hair into a bowl of water, combing through the messy clumps with blank-faced determination. Once returned to its previous satiny state, it was pulled back into a simple ponytail and tied with a pink ribbon.

Though his heart was heavy, Childe couldn’t help but smile at Qiqi’s kind gesture. She had been positive that her favorite hair tie would make Zhongli happy.

“Ugh…” a low grunt from the bed snapped Childe out of his daze. He turned to see two golden eyes squinting ahead as their owner reached out an arm, slowly searching the air. “Childe…Childe, where are you?”

“Hey, it’s okay. I’m right here.” The harbinger gently grasped Zhongli’s hand. “See? I’m still here. Can’t get rid of me that easily.” His smile wavered as shaking fingers clutched desperately at his own. “You’re alright.”

He waited patiently for Zhongli’s feverish brain to convince him that he was really there.

“Childe…” the sick man murmured after a few minutes. He sounded relieved, or tired. “I…please…please…”

“Zhongli? What’s wrong?” He searched his friend’s face desperately, gently tapping his cheek to pull him back. “Are you okay?”

For a moment, the man on the bed didn’t respond. He stared at the ceiling with glazed amber eyes, completely unaware that he was being spoken to. Childe felt his heart freeze over with terror. Was something wrong? He glanced to the door, ready to call for Baizhu.

He didn’t have to, because Zhongli finally spoke.

“Water…please…”

Mildly relieved, the redhead lifted the glass from the bedside table, moving his chair closer to help Zhongli drink. He gently eased his hand beneath the man’s head, murmuring soft apologies whenever he winced. He made sure the patient was steady before lifting the cup to his lips.

“Here you go. Drink slowly, okay?” He kept supporting the other body as his friend took grateful sips of the water. “That’s it. Have as much as you need.” Childe supported him as he drank slowly from the container, helping him lean back against the pillows once he had finished.

“Thank you, Childe.” He muttered weakly. “I’m grateful for your assistance.”

“It’s no problem, xiansheng.” The younger man leaned on the bed, propping his face in his hands. “You always help me when I need it. I’m glad I can do the same for you.”

Zhongli looked pale and tired, but a faint ghost of a smile flickered at his lips.

“It’s just my duty as your acquaintance.”

The two sat in silence for a few moments, listening to the clock ticking or Baizhu’s distant voice speaking to another patient. It was peaceful and quiet, and most of all, it was safe. Zhongli seemed to be comfortable enough; his tattered suit had been replaced with a soft pharmacy robe, and he looked very at peace while he rested. Even just watching him stare at the wall brought such relief to Childe, as well as other feelings he was struggling to push down.

“You had me really worried, you know.”

The harbinger murmured softly, running a hand through his ginger hair.

“You didn’t come back last night. Everyone was starting to get anxious.” The harbinger tugged on one of his black gloves as he chuckled grimly. “Your little yaksha friend was going feral. Practically foaming at the mouth when I brought you back. Archons, you were a sight…” he inhaled shakily.

“I-I don’t understand.” His eyes burned, stinging with a familiar sensation that he shoved away. “You’re the kindest person in Liyue, xiansheng. You listen to everyone, you help whenever you can, you give up everything to make people feel safe.”

His next breath sounded like a sob, but he wasn’t crying yet.

“And those—those cowards. Those worthless roaches who thought they could touch you, thought they could leave you bleeding—“ he slammed his fist against the mattress, hanging his head in dispair. Rage vibrated through every fiber of his being, making his shoulders shake with pure red fury. It wasn’t fair. Of course he had hurt people in the past, but they were imbeciles, useless maggots who challenged the will of the Tsaritsa. Not grubby little thieves who attacked and tormented innocent bypassers, or his friends. He looked up with a storm brewing in his ocean-colored eyes.

“I’m going to kill them, Zhongli. I’m going to kill every last one of those bastards. I don’t care if the Qixing herself throws me in jail to rot over it, I want to kill them all—“

Splash.

He looked down at the cold sensation of Hydro magic swirling in his hands and noticed he had subconsciously summoned his blades. The sharp weapons glinted in the dim lighting of the room, reflecting his angry face almost mockingly. His chest swelled with guilt.

Childe swished them away before turning to apologize to Zhongli, but his friend was fast asleep. His mouth slightly agape, shadowed eyes closed peacefully, his chest rising and falling gently with each breath. Childe sighed deeply, getting out of the chair to sit on the edge of the mattress. He held his head in his hands, letting his mind wander off. The anger cooled as quickly as it had flared up, like a bucket of ice water being thrown on a raging fire.

He glanced at the sleeping body, noticing that Zhongli’s hand was twitching ever so slightly, fingers grasping for something even in his sleep. The harbinger inhaled deeply, before sliding his hand into his friend’s.

“You’re safe now. Sleep well, Zhongli.”
