All right folks, here it is, the fall edition of my Word Studio Quarterly Writing Challenge has begun! 😊

It's free, you don't have to submit, you can just write. It's just 280-300 words! Sometimes a fun challenge can help if you're feeling stuck or uninspired. A great way to exercise the writing brain!

I don’t like being told what to write, but I do love going on a writing adventure. A teaser of specificity, yet enough vagueness to give a writer some freedom. I want guidelines, not a cage. So cheers to writing prompts and challenges, I’ll be sending some out into the universe quarterly.

What kind of cucumber/writer or pickle/author are you? Or maybe you’re the cheese? I love a good analogy and I love food. Maybe I’m just hungry. LOL

Oh so it’s not just me then. Thank heavens! The force will absolutely tell you when to let the reader breathe. A good storyteller feels when to insert a pause for dramatic effect. It’s a vibe. A little pause and effect, if you will.

When youve been a writer for long enough, commas become more of a spiritual practice than a grammatical one.

Could I explain the actual rules of how they’re used? Absolutely not.

Do I rely on sensing a tremor in the force to tell me where to use them? Yes and this has never failed me even once.

I wrote a bit of horror, a solid 7/10 on the gore-o-meter (according to my son). I got a ‘good job’ with a thumbs up.

Funny thing is, I’ve never liked horror. I get nightmares VERY easily. Very active imagination and all that.

BUT, if the horror comes from my own brain? If I’m the one writing it? Not scary even a little. Weird brain.

No safer place to explore the dark than in poetry and fiction (especially the darkness within). I wrote an article about it, stop by my substack on Tuesday to see!

Spent 20 minutes editing the Casino Royale poker scene to be chutes and ladders instead of finishing my English homework.

A new little friend, their name is ‘Yikes’. A lovely 3d print of a cute l’il rat I hand painted in a white/blond colour scheme with red eyes.

I recently finished this tasty treat of a deluxe staircase dice tower with jail which has a similar aesthetic to the lavender empire tower I shared previously. In this case I did it in blues and chocolates and bronzes and soft cream with pink undertones, instead of purples and golds and ivory.

Turned out so beautifully. 🤩 Here’s just a little taste of it. You can swipe to see the mood board that I put together to use to inspire this aesthetic.

As an artist with a disability, my health does get in the way, so the processing time on custom work from me is long, but I promise it’s always worth the wait. ☺️

Slow and steady it goes, finding joy in every painting moment.

Okay this dude turned out so awesome!!! 😁It’s a Warhammer 40K Ironstorm Redemptor Dreadnought I painted and based as my contribution to the #ighchaptercharity being organized by the @internationalguildofhobbyists.

I wanted it to look like it’s about to walk right off the base, turned out splendidly!

I kept the OSL pretty simple so that it would still blend okay with the rest of the army which is being painted by other people from across the globe. Fellow Canadian @hammer_dad_creations is painting the second Redemptor Dreadnought for the Ironstorm contingent.

There are two weapon options and two different ‘front cover’ options which are interchangeable as well. The ribbons are painted but are being sent along separately so the people putting the army together can decide what to use and where to stick them.

I had an absolute blast doing this and I’m packing it up this weekend so it can hit the mail on Monday. Can’t wait to see the whole army all together!! It’s going to be a beautiful monstrosity of an army. 😁

After realizing my citadel technical armageddon dust had become mummified with very little of it left usable, I whipped up my own version to use as a basecoat.

Sharing with you the ingredients and then you can watch a timelapse of how I created this terrain base for the Warhammer 40k Redemptor Dreadnought I painted for the #ighchaptercharity.

So yesterday I tried to pinch and zoom in on the artwork on the box that a mini came in to see the details better. That’s when I put the paint brush down and became the potato I was meant to be.

The Gingerbread collection!! I had a blast painting these tasty treats. 😁 The can holder mug has a screw on whipped cream topping lid. LOVE the cherry on top. 🍒😁🥰

The wee shot glass holder size just freaking adorable. I even ‘sugar’ coated the gumdrops. I used AK Interactive’s Sparkling Ice material to do it.

Glowing up the lava on the base for the demon general I’ve been painting. It’s turned out splendidly!!

Working on this monstrosity of a project, hand painting a demon general and his base. Here’s a quick vid of dry brushing the flesh on the wings. Next step is to apply flesh washes.
