happy birthday!!! 🎉🎂 if you could create your own fourth world imprint, what books would you include in it?
THANK YOU!!! and thank u for the question:
id love to say just new gods!!! but well thats such a toss up....
lightray solo. theres an article floating around about DC characters who've never received solos and it remarks that while Lightray is overdue, writing a genuinely nice hero would be too hard for most authors and ive been so mad forever
mister miracle source of freedom... 2!
mini about the brandon easton/fico ossio version of orion :D would want to make way for an original orion solo though by the end. maybe they can meet
mokkari and simian in a similar but darker vibe to BUG! or like a The Brak Show thing. id take the allreds back for that even
anthology style with stories from all 3 mister miracles and support cast. would like to see michael avon oeming do some art here
OBERON PRIDE SPECIAL ONESHOT
forever people always. i didnt read past their first solo so i dont know where i would go with that though!
i think a female furies solo that isnt uh like that could be cool. one based on the original series though. i think knockout could still be involved because she IS a villainous mirror of barda and i think should represent the rewritten personalities given to the furies in later comics
jimmy olsen should team up with don rickles again (i never read this issue actually. sorry) jk though i like Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen as a concept always though. his too-good-for-him love interests should unionize though POWER GIRL x BLUE FORAGER 2k23. joke. maybe
young gods as an anthology maybe? or just anything with a general new gods cast, revision of jovita?, id like to see tradd moore draw a lightray story but not the one i listed below, black racer!, silent comedy with fastbak getting into shenanigans, atinai! seagrin! erm TT can explode but i like jog i would see him again, complete wyldhearts connection to fourth world im sure some other stuff
whatever happened on earth-51?
another anthology -> multiverse/AU... maybe address the "theyre the same in every universe" bc thats obviously not truueeee
ive had an idea for a lightray-centric book for years now of him escaping one of desaad's labs deep underground with a half-dissected father box that he doesnt really trust but is his only ally, while orion searches tirelessly for his lost friend while someone (maybe kaiyo?) plays mind games on him. well i think itd be fun
yay thank u for the ask :D
here is a WIP drawing of fastbak:

[ID: Flat-coloured image of Fastbak from DC Comics, flying on his discs. There is an air trail behind him spinning in a loop. End ID]

oh. its 10/16. so short summary before i talk about nothing for a bit too long: a year ago i came up with the idea to actually go through with taking one of my silly ideas and turning it into something that other people could read, so i started drafting the concept of providence, a webcomic i make and thats updating everyday. more talking under the whatever.
so ive always made little stories that i would run through in my head for like two or three months when i had mental downtime, and then move on to some other goofy idea. this is either a totally normal thing or im a freak, honestly i have no frame of reference for how other people act. anyways i was home from college last year and i had this idea for an rpg fantasy story, initially an idea for playing modded minecraft with some friends (god i wish that was a joke), but i started writing shit down in a google doc. i wrote out a handful generic slots for various fantasy classes: witch, dryad, ranger, knight, vampire(not a class but i dont give a fuck), blacksmith, etc. and then i named some of them. i finished naming and writing out plot nonsense in november and changed the name of the comic from "Drive-By" to "Liberty" to "Providence."
honestly i think that was the easy part because its totally non-commital. unfortunately after that i had to actually start making the pages. the original plan was to finish act one before may, which was an optimistic goal to say the least, but also maybe if i didnt have to do anything else it would have been totally possible. or if i was just faster in general. anyways i started drawing everything at the end of december and then didnt stop for 6 months. actually thats a lie, i started drawing pages and havent stopped since then, but what i meant is that i started uploading the comic in may. i had a backlog of about 75 pages and the art change just in that time was nuts. comparing act 2 art to act 1 is more nuts but im not about to redraw the 170 pages of a1 just so that its APPEALING and PALLETEABLE. i learned way more about web design from doing this comic than from my actual web design class. like insanely more. you have no idea how little that class helped me with anything aside from making friends through mutual hatred of being poorly taught.
sixo de mayo (may 6th) came and i started doing this thing for real, and its been so surreal having people actually talk to me about these guys that have been in my head for months. my sister recently asked if deacon was my self-insert, which is sort of true but only in the sense that we both have social issues and like to be dumb on sort-of-purpose, and then she told me that her favorite character was reagan. theres not really any deep meaning behind her telling me or that reagan is my favorite too, but its just so surreal to me that people can have a favorite, or any opinion, on these characters i obsess over.
alright i think im done for now, i just wanted to talk about the comic on its sort of birthday, and also the day that the gang got pulled into the story. i mentioned that vaguely in the story once already, but im cool with being more direct about it. ill probably go on another rant again about this sometime, maybe on sixo de mayo, but probably sooner because im obsessive and like to type. happy birthday comic, heres to a million more. or however many years it takes to make a 5 act story at a rate of like 200 pages in 10 months. hopefully that number will go up.

that grian drawing you made....!!. in my brain, rent free. I am ,,, SO serious about this. the baggy black pants. the red sweater around the waist.. muscle BULK. the floofy hair. the skin-colored sclera to give the illusion of his socket eyes.(!() STRONGK SHOULDERS.. THE ARM HAIR THE ARM HAIR THE A R M HAIRER L HEELLO??? ? the only thing keeping me from going completely insane is that he doesnt have the forearm veins BUT YEAH i love He <3. SO much. like i have nothing against twink baby-face femboy grian likers but hoooOOLY SHIT you know how to draw a Man,, not even like the ultra sexified anime boy kind of man. I mean like. I'm cis as hell but that is what i would want to look like if i was a guy. The perfect balance of intimidating and friendly and cheeky and cutesy and ,,, basically he looks like everything i could ever want in a grian design ok god bless <3
this is kinda on me but i did NOT expect the sheer volume of people hitting on my grian design in the tags its really funny to me,, glad yall enjoy haha kinda funny note: his sclera aren't intended to be skin colored, he sorta just doesn't have any in the way i draw him—but i guess its up to interpretation! thats kinda cool now that i look at it again

Masara Kagami - Assassin done wrong - Part 1
I´ve mentioned it before so now I´m going to explain why I think Masara is the epitomy of misused potential for character design in all of Magia Record.
This is part one and will focus on her gameplay. Her visual design will be part two. In terms of character writing and personality I´m actually quite fond of her.
So, lets get going. Disclaimer: I don´t mean to hate on her or people who like her! I really do like her myself which is why I´m upset about how lazy the designers were when it comes to her.
Overview
Rarity: 3*-> 4*
Disks: AAB(<->)CC
Type: Attack
Personal: 100% Chance to Critial hit to self for one turn
Stats: 21.930 HP | 9.295 ATK | 6.963 DEF (SE 100/100)
Connect: Chance to Critical Hit 75%/85%
Magia: Damage One Enemy | Chance to Chase - Self / 1 Turn / 100% | Chance to Evade - Self / 1 Turn / 30%
SE (memorable nodes): Chance to Anti-Evade 35% | Charge Disc Damage up 10% | Blast Damage Up 16.5 % | Chance to Evade 15 % | Chance to Defense Pierce 15% | Charged Attack Damage up 10 % | Chance to Critical Hit 15%
SE Active: Chance to Critical Hit 35% - Self - 3 Turns
Now lets get going. Masara´s fighting style (ingame and story) is simple. Go in and strike. She is essentially an Assassin. She turns invisible and goes for the backstab. She is a glass canon and her stats reflect that.
But it doesn´t quite work. Now we gotta keep in mind she is not a limited special unit but I feel like even with her being low rarity she was done dirty. Why is that?
Let´s start with her disks. Double A and Double C with one B. This is the disc set of a support/magia type. Masara does get buffs for her charge discs, but how does she use them? Does she contribute to charge combos? No. She isn´t a chargius and doesn´t have tools the likes of Tsukasa (Charge +1) or Hagumu (Charge draw personal) have. Does she use her charges for blasting? Not really. She does have blast up in her SE but only one blast disc. Does her connect support charge? Not really, it is not consistent.  Being able to give a charge conservation 20 stack blast combo a crit chance of 85% sounds lethal but it´s not 100%. There´s a saying in the Pokemon fandom that goes: If it isn´t 100% accurate it´s 50% accurate. It´s high risk somewhat high reward and all her connect offers. Most people prefer consistency in connects so they won´t use her for anything other than basic content. The really good synergy is missing.
Maybe she´ll slot well into blasting. Obviously not. Without connect(s) she will never be able to pull of her own puella blast combo. If you really want to slot crit into a blast combo, just use Yachiyo. Her crit chance might be lower at 70% but the blast up is guaranteed. Plus she can reach 5 stars, something Masara can not do yet.
Since Masara can´t use her charge disks for blasting she can use them to boost her own mp gain, right? Yes! Buuuut...
She gets no sources of AC or MP gain up pre 100. This will slow her down. But she can get there. Once she does, what does she do?
She will destroy a single unit. Her attack is rather high for a capped four star and with the buff to single target magias she can even oneshot challenge bosses. But does her magia benefit her team? Not at all.
She gets a 30% chance to evade which is just her passive evade chance times two. Why. Whhhhyyy. She can turn invisible! Her evade should be 1000%. Tsuruno and Oriko can evade 100%, but the invisible assassin can´t. But maybe thats because the other effects are so broken? Nice one. It´s chase 100% for herself for one turn. Now here´s the problem with that. It´s useless if you use three magias in one turn. It´s also bad if you only use her magia and two discs cause you won´t maximize the damage. If it would last for two turns you could chase on a puella combo. But that´s a luxury she wasn´t given.  What her magia should do is provide Defense pierce. Assassins literally exist to bypass defenses. Either 100% to self or like 50% to her team. It would be good but nowhere near too broken for a free character. But you know who else is free to play, light type and can oneshot single target enemies. Shizuku. Her magia, being random targets, will outdamage single target magias. She is also uncapped and her Magia gives crit to her team for three turns. Thats more than Masara does. She also gives herself Attack up for three turns. Masara doesn´t do that either. So if you need a strong single target light magia, pick Shizuku (who also gets more mp and has evade as an SE active which makes her more  reliable).
Now, Masara is still capped and once she can reach 5 stars her stats will surpass Shizuku´s. But who knows when that will happen.
Lets summarize: She gives herself bad evade and mediocre chase. She gives others a very high crit chance but nothing else. By the way her chrit chance is bad on magia teams who don´t care about disc damage. Her SE gives her a mediocre crit chance for three turns and her personal gives her 100% crit for one turn. Her magia is outclassed by Shizuku´s who does more for herself and her team. She has no niche to fill in this game other than brr connect almost 100% crit but not quite brrr
Masara´s only source of defense pierce is a low chance from SE. Defense pierce should be her gimmick and her evade should be 100%. You can´t get more invisible assassin than this. This would make her unique but still balanced around being free to play. Her connect should be 100% crit chance PLUS another effect. Get creative and pick your poison. Ingore Dmg cut / Anti-Evade/ Evade/ Defense pierce/ Damage up whatever.
I know that she might get new abilities once she gets uncapped but I´m not very optimistic. She is not a teamplayer and thats okay. But her not living up to her assassin theme is such a shame. The only thing 100% about her kit is chase which is a fun mechanic but no saving grace. Everything that makes her lethal in concept is weak in execution.
So that wraps up everything wrong with Masara´s gameplay as an Assassin. Also let her throw knives from behind her enemies that would be so cool.

1.  You haven’t sent me this! Im just gonna do color blobs because i know people get freaked out my blood. keep in mind i know almost nothing about blood chemistry so all the reason behind these color choices are bs lmao @drops-of-moonlights
Tumblr media
2. lol alright alright twist my arm why don’t you (sarcasm i actually want to do one lol) i’’l get on that in the next week or so
3. hmmmm so i haven’t actually watched the episode but from what i’ve gathered from the fandom icy was a princess with a younger sister when a witch showed up turned her sister into a fox and froze her entire planet? so like. first of all, this was entirely pulled out of rainbows ass, but that doesn’t mean i don’t like it?  if they had wanted to reflect Bloom’s story icy should have been the younger sister, but with her as the older sister i don’t think of it as reflecting Bloom but Daphne, and honestly that’s the more interesting choice from my perspective. Like i know people are partial to having fire and ice parallels but its less of an obvious paralell and more of a “what if” What if Daphne hadn’t been able to protect Bloom? Would she have turned out like Icy? If Icy had successfully protected her sister would she have lost her life? would she have been forced off the planet? would she have attended alfea and not cloud tower? Where were their parents? who was the witch lady? why did icy choose to become a witch when that was the source of all her trauma? like i don’t really give a crap about her being a princess(i guess its cool?) i just want to dive into the relationships and the effects they have on people.
4. omg yes earth is the USA of Magix.  and Magic super weapons are a TERRIFYING concept. Like thats probably what obsidian and the realix would be considered? but those were both made accidentally (in my version) so something like a nuclear bomb made with magic on purpose is indeed controversial. (but on a less serious note, imagine the memes about earth)
5. Yes i am! I just haven’t gotten to them yet
6. THE WHOOSH!!!!!! THE DRAMATIC FUR LINING!!!!! THE POTENTIAL FOR THIS WHOLE AESTHETIC!!!! only to be a weird ass version of sirenix/harmonix. so disappointing. @hug-all-platelets
7. ooooh nice
8. nah. first problem is that Aidan has already grown into his magic fully, adding the dragon fire on top would cause some issues( its safest to pass it on to an unborn baby where it will grow in along with their core magic). second is that Adian isn’t part of the Domino Royal family and the dragon flame (and technically the shadow flame as well) is part of that. Third, Ophelia is like..... weirdly proud that she has the dragon flame? like you know when you have a cold and you hate having a cold and you feel awful and have to take medicine but you love that you don’t have to go to school like your non-sick siblings? its like that
9. ooooh that would be super cool!
10. Thank you! @knightsofeclipse
11. so among the winx its the YAY! group(bloom, stella, flora) and the WTF group(aisha, musa, and tecna) and then the besties Stella/bloom, aisha/flora, tecna/musa. Outside of that, Tecna and flora actually get along pretty well. and of course musa and aisha. In the specialists the gym bros are riven, brandon, nabu, (and eventually nex), and the problem solvers sky, timmy, helia (and sort of roy) between the two groups, helia and bloom do life drawing together sometimes. Musa sometimes works with Helia on her lyrics because of his poetry angle. Brandon and flora are basically the moms of their groups so they’ll get tea if the other ever has to vent. Timmy and stella will sometimes DIY clothing together (stella for the FASHION and timmy because thats how he was raised lol) Riven and aisha have a friendly sometimes not so friendly competition and come up with challenges for each other. Sky and Stella hang out and bitch about being royalty with strict dads’. Sky also wants to implement more technology on eraklyon (they’re fairly tradtional rn) so he and tecna will talk shop sometimes. Nex and Flora can hang out and get along rly well but literally nobody understands HOW because they’re so different. Nex can also hang out with musa but that only has two outcomes: united chilled out apathy or BLOODSHED. Timmy and musa also like to mix music together as timmys actually pretty good on a launchpad type thing, they have a youtube channel.
12. i can’t remember what i had it as originally so i guess its just zhen?
13. I might eventually do Stella’s monster form! For valtor’s mark, its a very subtle mind control thing and power up for the victim. It created a link between the victims and valtor, allowing him to plant thoughts in their head and transfer them a little bit of his magic so they’re more powerful. @inversway
14. Thank you!
15. I’ll probably end up drawing the nymphs eventually!
16.  I’ll probably end up drawing the nymphs eventually! and no male magic users have a system more like witches where they have different names based on where they source their magic and how they channel it. only fairies have “transformations”
17. i think its just my goal to make everybody gay for all the winx ladies and i am crushing it
18. Thank you! and yeah, Diaspro did a lot wrong but so did sky and honestly? so did Bloom. I think the reason people like to go the “diaspro did nothing wrong” route is because sky is pretty dick-ish in the first two seasons, and bloom is already the center of attention so we side with diaspro because we like an underdog. but diaspro is also a walking trope combo of mean girl and crazy ex so we have to erase that in order to like her the way we want to. idk i just wanted to make one of the villain girls (who all get the short end of the stick most of the time)  redeemable with out erasing her flaws and mistakes(like rainbow did with selina)

Supernatural // Hogwarts
Okay so I’ve seriously been thinking about Supernatural characters in Hogwarts? And the concept is so wonderful for me because I can easily see a twelve year old Sammy getting his hands on the Harry Potter books and it just taking him away. Away from all the shit he hates. The hunting. His dad. The gaping hole that he doesn’t talk about that is his mom. School. All of it. Sometimes it just all becomes so much for him, but when he opens that book - it just feels like coming home.
The first movie comes out when he’s fifteen and he begs his older brother Dean to go with him. He’s been begging Dean to read the books for years now, but Dean’s never been much of a reader. After a week of persisting, he finally gives in and off to the movies they go. Sam is in complete awe at the whole movie. It wasn’t like the book exactly, but God it felt good to put a face to the name and see them fight it out for real instead of imagining it. It was cool to imagine it, but the movie brought a certain twang to it. Dean, while he would never admit it, actually thought the movie was pretty cool. He understood why his little brother adored it and after a few weeks of contemplation, he sneaks into Sammy’s bag one day and steals a copy of the first book.
Sam catches him reading one day, but Dean’s so lost in the book, he doesn’t even notice. Sam knows if he’s caught, Dean will put the book down and not open it again, so Sam tip-toes out of the room and smiles in triumph. He knew his brother would like it and he did.
The books were different for Dean. While Sam read it because he wanted to get away and have a home, Dean read it because of the characters. It got him away too, sure, but Dean felt like he related so much to all the characters, it finally made him feel belonged in a place where he felt anything but. He felt like Ron in a way that he was funny and witty, he felt like Harry in a way that he had no parents and yeah Dean had his dad, but he didn’t really have his dad. He felt like Hermione in the way she always underestimated herself. He felt like Draco in the way he hid things and often lashed out at people because of his home life. He, however, didn’t feel like Luna, but he admired her. She was always so out there that she never cared what people thought and she did it in such a graceful and thoughtful way. Dean was too hot headed for all of that, but he wished to be more like her.
Both the brothers were fans to say the least now and when the last book comes out, they do what they’ve always done. Sam buys it and reads it and then Dean sneaks in, steals it, and reads it too. When the last movie comes out, both brothers go together and see it and while both brothers tease each other for crying, it really did feel like the end of an era and that saddened them both, but when they move into the bunker, Sam buys the whole series and places it on the bookshelf and they’re the most read books in the whole library. Worn and old, but both brothers read it when life seems to be getting just too fucking hard. And they even sometimes binge the movies together when they’re both feeling down. Even Castiel joins one evening.
“You both realize that this is fictional – correct?” Cas asks, but both boys shush him, then after a few moments, Sam whispers to him.
“Yes, but they’re so- they’ve gotten us through a lot. Just watch okay?” He smiles.
Cas just nods and after the movies both men turn to their angel friend. Cas is silent for a moment then looks back up at the tv. “That was very entertaining yes.” And smiles widely.
Thats kinda my whole thing on it, but guys JUST THINK ABOUT THE CHARACTERS AND WHAT HOUSE THEY’D BE SORTED IN.
Sam is a Ravenclaw. Intelligent, witty, learning, and creativity, Sam has it all. His friends and brother are always laughing at some remark he’s already made about one of his friends (but usually his brother) doing something completely ignorant, but it’s all light hearted and not taken seriously of course. He’s always raising his hand in class and everyone’s begging him to tell them the answer to their transfigurations homework as Sam is best in the class. He’s so good in fact, that he makes Professor McGonnagal crack a sly smirk every time he gets a transfiguration down. He draws in his free time and when asked what his drawings are about, he says they’re normally of him and his brother fighting monsters. Although the monster fighting has always been his brothers forte. Sam still likes to imagine them doing it together. His brother and him are extremely close and he wouldn’t mind becoming an Auror, but his love of learning all he can in Hogwarts is only shaping him to one day be the best Headmaster Hogwarts will ever see and everyone knows that except when he does eventually grow up, he takes a position as the Transfigurations teacher and eventually ends up as Headmaster over the North American school, Ilvermourny to which all of his students love him and do agree he is one of the best. It’s the perfect life for him.
While his little brother is a Ravenclaw, Dean is the epitome of Gryffindor. Bravery, Chivalry, Nerve, Courage, and Determination. While Sam doesn’t dare think to put his name into the Goblet of Fire when it comes that time, Dean doesn’t think twice. He waltzes up to the cup, gives his brother an award winning smile and places it in. Cheers are erupted from the Gryffindor side and it comes to no surprise when Dean is called to play the game. It’s dangerous and involves the work of his friends and his brother, but he gets through it and when he emerges from the rubble of the last game, he’s holding the cup. The crowd uproars and Dean is lifted up and treated like a God until the end of the year. One of his best friends Jo (a fellow Gryffindor) comes up and plants her mouth onto his and from that moment on, he loves her and she loves him. Sam is constantly telling them about how it “took ‘me long enough” and Jo can’t help but blush while Dean gives his brother a glare, but the rest of there friends giggle. As you can well guess from the Goblet of Fire, Dean excels in Defense Against the Dark Arts. His goal is to be an Auror and help stop Dark Witches and Wizards alike. After all, his father John (a former Slytherin) is an Auror and when he comes home from a long day, he always has a new story to tell Dean and he relishes in them. Kicking ass and taking names- fighting evil. When he and his brother were kids they used to talk about fighting monsters together and they still keep that dream a while until Sam starts Hogwarts and he realizes that he has a knack for knowledge and he loves it and Dean loves watching his baby bro do what he loves. The first day of Dean’s last year at Hogwarts, Sam breaks the news to him that whole he loves the idea of him and his brother being Auror partners and fighting crime, he just loves to learn and teach more and Sam’s bottom lip is practically trembling and his eyes are all watery and Dean pulls his brother into a hug. “I know that’s not you Sammy and that’s okay. I like you as a nerd better.” He smiles and Sam laughs while tears roll down his face. Dean’s just always been better at that sort of thing than Sam. And while Dean isn’t fond of doing the whole Auror thing without his brother, he eventually finds his footing and becomes one of the best Aurors of his time. He stills calls every time he catches a bad guy and tells his brother of his adventures.
BONUS:
Castiel is a Hufflepuff. There’s no doubt about it. Dedication, patience, and loyalty. He’s Dean’s best friend and that right there says enough about his patience as Dean can have quite the temper. They balance each other out and Sam enjoys the company of Cas and how he reacts to Dean when they’re all hanging out together. It’s refreshing to see someone else put him in his place. After all only three people in his life have been able to do it. Sam, now Cas, And later on Jo. Castiel is by no means as smart as Sam, but more dedicated to his studies than Dean, who barely gets enough marks to pass. He is proficient in Herbology and even more outstanding in Care of Magical Creatures. He loves to sit and learn all he can about nature and the creatures he loves so much. Dragons, in fact, are his favorite and he talks about them as much as he can. He even hangs out with Hagrid when he wants to hear of more tales of the creatures. Sam loves hearing about them and they eventually find themselves hanging out after class and studying with each other in the library. Sam tells Cas about how he wants to learn all he can and one day be the best teacher he can and Castiel tells him that he’d like to one day be a Dragon Keeper and travel. While Castiel loves Dean and their friendship, it’s something else with Sam. He listens to everything Castiel has to say and he doesn’t judge him, not that Dean does, but Dean can tend to not have a serious side when it comes to certain matters. The first time they kiss is in front of the fireplace in the commons area during a snow storm. Everyone is asleep except for the two boys who whisper about there futures and when they kiss is when it becomes all too real that Castiel does in fact have feelings for his best friends younger brother and his younger brother has feelings back. At first it’s weird and awkward, but after a minute they’re practically in each other’s laps and soon laughing at each other in utter bliss. They take things slow and it’s in Sixth year where they finally tell Dean. Dean’s pissed and Castiel responds the way you would think a Hufflepuff responds. He lets Dean hell at him and throw insults his way. How dare he betray Dean and date his little brother behind his back? How dare he go after Sammy? Sam’s his responsibility while they’re away at school and Cas can’t just come in and take that. It isn’t until Sam whimpers “Dean” where Dean stops and looks at his brother. For the first time since he started the rant. Castiel just stands there still and is in front of Sam. “I love him Dean.” And Dean’s heart melts. He gives one last glare at Castiel and then his whole body softens. “Don’t hurts my brother or I’ll have to kill you,” he says and engulfs him in hug and Cas smiles hugging him back. “I can’t believe you just stood there and let him yell at you,” Sam frowned, confused. “It’s a Hufflepuff thing,” Dean adds backing up and Castiel looks at Sam with so much love and adoration that all of Dean’s worries melts away. When it’s time for them to graduate Hogwarts, Sam and Cas still stay in touch, but decide not to date and Castiel tells Sam all about his adventures as a Dragon Keeper and Sam tells him about school and his plans after. At Sam’s graduation, Cas is there, holding a stuffed Dragon and Sam hugs him and for the first time in a long time, they kiss and this time, they stay together. Castiel travels while Sam is at Ilvermourny and yeah it’s long distance, but nothing a little magic can’t help fix.

SÂVER: Raging At Darkness, Stepping Into Light
~By Billy Goate~
Tumblr media
When I heard that former Tombstones members were forming a new band called SÂVER, I knew it was going to be doomy, but I don't think I was prepared for an album of such immense breadth and ferocity. You think Slomatics or Conan can command a hall? Well, let's just say with S VER you're in the Hall of the Mountain King. As I listen, it's not hard to imagine an apocalyptic scenario where the SÂVER's powerful strains break out in the dead of night, echoing through nightmarish forests, over majestic mountains, and into the impenetrable dark of Norway's wild. I can't believe how perfectly this recording captures size, scope, and grandiosity of their sound.
They Came With Sunlight by SÂVER
A deep, quietly percussive bass note opens up "Distant Path" and is joined in short order by menacing reverb of the synth. Two minutes in, the guitar and drums join in the layers of crescendo. At last, Ole Christian Helstad joins the fruckus of this brewing storm, ever building, building, building towards its inevitably violent release. Five minutes into the song, a torrent of rain swells down, accompanied by a hail of steady notes on guitar. At the eight-minute mark, a terrifyingly grandiose symphony of raging vocals and the combined force of Helstad's explosive bass, Markus Støle's drums, and Ole Ulvik Rokseth's guitar brings us the apocalyptic moment we've all been waiting for. Simply put, it is jaw-droppingly huge. 'They Came With Sunlight' (2019) has officially begun.
The following track, "I, Vanish," would make a fine companion to Yob's "The Screen." It ticks and tocks and grinds its gears like the mechanical clock of some mad horologist, who watches each finely tuned movement closely to see if we are nearer to Doomsday. This and the succession of tracks that follow take us on an ethereal journey of sorts. The music gives a continual sense of flow -- whether with the echo of chords, the precise rhythms of repeated notes, or the fury of blinding tremolos, we are always moving, moving, moving. The complexity of movement may find some drawing comparisons with Black Cobra, Mastodon, perhaps even Tool and Meshuggah.
They Came With Sunlight by SÂVER
"Influx" breaks with this form just long enough to make us question what we thought was real. Are we awake in the real world or in some kind of a dream where the rules still aren't known? It feels like we are floating in a state of suspended animation. The lyrics throughout the album are obscure, making it hard to get a straight answer one way or another. Perhaps the point is to ponder the larger themes exposited by these opaque words, to free our minds to wander and explore the possibilities. I will say the interview that follows helps to clear up at least one or two mysteries for us, but overall the material remains high concept, abstract, and surreal.
They Came With Sunlight by SÂVER
"How They Envisioned Life" is the most heart-wrenching song of the lot. There is real pain here, as the singer lashes out with some of the purest rage on record at everything he believed to be true and faithful about his reality. There's also what appears to be a tug of war. The light wants him, the dark wants him. Is this a near-death experience? I'll let you be the judge.
"Step out of light!" - Dark Frozen by fright, left to survive Under the sky Leave!! Leave my soul to him!
They came - They saw How they envisioned life Embrace the warmth that I have left you with
Please let us stay Through depths and stone I see light
Leave – Leave my soul to him
They came - They saw How they envisioned light Your rage - minds covered This ancient hollowed out fight I have left you - Light
"Dissolve To Ashes" gets even stranger with references to "cosmic shuttles" and panicked attempts to find a path that will lead to light. Come to think of it, this is actually is starting to feel like the kind of things I dream about on the regular!
They Came With Sunlight by SÂVER
The ancient archetypal struggle between light and darkness comes to a head in the album's longest track, the twelve-and-a-half minute "Altered Light." There are hints that maybe the light isn't quite what it seems and that a little sleight of hand is involved when some people promise to show us the way.
I'd like to point out something I've not mentioned up to this point: melody. The riffs on this album are, for lack of a better expression, very "hummable." This means these little earworms will be working their magic on you long after you've walked away from the record. I've found myself humming or tapping the theme to this song at the grocery store, at work, while doing laundry, you name it. Look, I don't have the answers to the riddles presented by They Came WIth Sunlight. What I can offer you is SÂVER. Oh, and if you dig this kind of sound, be sure and check out Markus Støle and Ole Rokseth's other project HYMN.

“It sounds like war.”
Congratulations on a successful album launch via Pelagic Records and for debuting at the #10 spot on the Doom Charts with 'They Came With Sunlight' (2019).
Thanks, Billy! The response has been overwhelming. We are super stoked.
The last time we checked in, Tombstones had just disbanded and then I think I lost track of the story for a good two years after that. What was going on in the backdrop leading up to the formation of SÂVER?
We spent a year, more or less, in our rehearsal space after Tombstones, just writing new material without having a plan. I don't think it took that long before we knew we had to make something of it, so we talked alot about what type of band we wanted to start and what type of music we wanted to play. We all knew we wanted to do something different. So it's been a lot of experimenting with sounds and gear to get to where we are now.
What does the band’s name signify?
It means "sleep" or "sleeping" in an old Norwegian dialect, from out in the woods where Ole Helstad is from.
Tumblr media
“We wanted to just leave.”
The opening line from “Dissolve To Ashes” starts with: “They came with sunlight” -- it’s also the title of the album. I’m used to song and album titles that refer to the menace of darkness and those that prey in the shadows, but here you’re anticipating the arrival of something with the dawn. Can you illuminate this?
I think that line, in particular, is spoken through someone or something else “on the other side.” The clean singing sort of amplifies that. At some point during the writing process, I painted this picture in my mind of three dudes just leaving the earth towards a better destination, in search of “The Light.” So most of the lyrics is based around that journey. I think people relate to that and that's why it's equally heavy as the typical “metal lyrics.” It's just about life, man.
Tumblr media
“It's just about life, man.”
So much of metal is focused on pain, misery, death, subjugation, and very little is written about “the light” -- especially not in a style as heavy, so it really intrigues me.
Yes, well, I don't think there is any point in writing about stuff thats not from your own experiences and thought. We just sort of turned it all around and wrote about our journey away from death, shadows, and battleaxes. It was really about what all of us went through at the time. We wanted to just leave.
The tracks on They Came With Sunlight are huge. This and the recent Yob album are among the few that have been successful in writing cohesive long-form compositions that carry an effective dramatic arc. How does a piece like “I, Vanish” come together?
That song is based on a bass riff that Ole brought to the table one night. And I guess we just wrote it the way we know best. Weed, beer, and a sweaty rehearsal space with low lighting. We are all believers of repetition in music, and that song is all about that for sure. This whole album really came together naturally and I think it's because we all had a need to express ourselves in a different way than in other bands and we had a clear vision of what we wanted to do early on.
Tumblr media
The production value is very high on the new album, capturing the depth, range, and power of your sound admirably. What have you learned about recording your sound now that’s different from when you first started recording albums with Tombstones a decades ago?
I always have all of these different ideas and thoughts on how to record the next album to make it better than what we have done before. But we always, at least in these types of bands, conclude that recording live is the only way. And having a studio tech that can provide good recordings of all the instruments is key. So we basically just do what we have been doing at rehearsals and know that the guys behind the desk just captures it at that moment. Joona Hassinen at Studio Underjord in Sweden was that guy, and he couldn't have done a better job. Everything sounded really good straight out of the mixing board, so we knew early on that this was gonna be a super heavy experience. That being said, we had a lot of weird accidents on this album, as well, that Joona decided to just leave in. Art by accident, dude. Always cool. We obviously added stuff after recording it live, but it's not really that far from it.
Tumblr media
“Three dudes just leaving the earth towards a better destination in search of The Light.”
If nothing else, doom is surely infamous for its “low ‘n’ slow” approach. How in the name of Hades did you get such a damning sound on this record? What did you tune to, for example, on “Distant Path”?
It's that whole year of continuously hitting the rehearsal space, practicing and trying out different sounds. We knew we wanted to try and distance ourselves from all the other “doom” bands that are out there, but yet not losing ourselves and what we think sounds cool.
We tune in drop A, and the guitars have pretty thin string gauges to get that open, heavy sound. Not that much distortion either, to be honest. Most of the fuzz comes from Helstad's 215 bass cabinet. A Lot of the sound also came together after I bought a Fender Telecaster Deluxe and combined it with an older Peavey transistor head. Bringing a synthesizer to mix also opened a lot for us. I inherited a real passion for old and new synths from my brother. His collection of synths is out of this world -- thanks Pål.
As Joona said after re-amping the fuzz bass, “It sounds like war.” I will never stop trying out new gear and trying new weird shit, and that's a big part of me evolving as a musician.
Tumblr media
Picking up from that last question, the level of tonal depth you were able to capture on this recording is truly remarkable. Without ever feeling muted or distorted, you’ve managed to capture the grandiosity and rumbling low-end of those bruising chords.
Joona basically just recorded -- with great technique and experience -- what we played then and there. If the song is heavy, and you believe in it, it's gonna come out heavy. No matter what amp you use or what pickup you have in you guitar. I'm pretty sure Jimi Hendrix would make a shitty B.C. Rich Warlock from 2009 sing and penetrate your soul in the same way he does with his Stratocaster.
What amps and gear did you use in the recording?
We recorded it live with the same set-up as we use at gigs and rehearsals. I won't get into all the pedal details. On guitar, I played through a stereo setup with 412 cabinets. Peavey Century Bass Series and and old Simms Watts 100. Well, bass was actually reamped, but Helstad uses his Rickenbacker 4003 through a Ampeg SVT Classic with an 810 cab and a Peavey Standard with a Peavey 215 cab. Markus, of course, can make any drum kit sound amazing, though I don't remember the particulars of what he used in this recording.
To record the synth parts, I borrowed his brother's Korg MS10 from the '70s. One of our all time favourite synthesizers, but it's old, rare, and not cheap, so recently I bought a Moog Sub Phatty that I bet you will hear more of on our next record. If people want to know more, we love talking gear. Come check us out live and have a chat.
Tumblr media
How did you arrive at the decision to use synthesizers in these compositions, anyway?
I've been active in two other electronica-based bands: Gundelach and Hubbabubbaklubb. I got inspired by these two acts and my brother, who plays synth in those two bands, as well. As mentioned, he's got an enormous collection of vintage, kickass synthesizers. All of us love the sound of it and also electronic music, and we wanted to use that as a tool to divide our sound from the common doom band. You can expect more synth on the next album.
"Art by accident, dude. Always cool.”
How have your live performances gone so far? We’d love to have you back to the States sometime!
Really good! Again, the response has been overwhelming. As a band, it's really important to set goals, and we have met almost all of our goals to this date. It's crazy. We are really looking forward to next year! Playing the US has been a goal for all of us forever and is something we definitely want to make happen with S VER. Hopefully next year, Billy, we can meet up and have a beer.

LITERALLY i want all of them for curly shepard
IM SORRY TO THE MOBILE USERS WHO THIS WILL NOT APPEAR UNDER A READ MORE FOR
What does their bedroom look like?
idk why i’m such a firm believer of this BUT: tim and curly share a room, so typically half of it is clean and the other half (curly’s half) is a fucking mess all the time
Do they have any daily rituals?
every day for lunch at school him & his friends just go under the bleachers and drink. unfortunately curly has no limits so when lunch is over he usually just ends up ditching the rest of the day to go continue drinking somewhere else
Do they exercise, and if so, what do they do? How often?
he doesn’t make a conscience effort to exercise, but he walks basically everywhere when tim has the car. so he’s in pretty good shape bc of that & bc of fighting
What would they do if they needed to make dinner but the kitchen was busy?
curly has never made dinner a day in his life and will never make an attempt to nor does anyone want him to. if theres nothing already made at the house he’ll either just go without or go to the diner
Cleanliness habits (personal, workspace, etc.)
he’s a generally messy person, but he takes pride in his looks so he takes care of himself. he’s always clean shaven and smells really good. his room, however, is a disaster scene
Eating habits and sample daily menu
usually not awake for breakfast, and for lunch he’ll scrap up whatever he can find in his house (probably ends up being a sandwich or cereal) and for dinner he’ll follow tim somewhere and make him buy him dinner. he loves eating at the diner and never underestimate his ability to eat breakfast meals at 11 o clock at night
Favorite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time
his sole reason for going to school is to waste time (thats what he tells everyone at least but its rlly because tim will not let him drop out) but if hes not in school then he’s probably just walking around his neighborhood w/ his friends or hanging out at the strip trynna start fights
Favorite indulgence and feelings surrounding indulging
dont.....really know what this means. all im thinkin about is that chocolate stuff. but he likes chocolate so lets go with that. he could eat 50 kit kats in a row, probably
Makeup?
makeup sex? absolutely. he’ll start a fight with his boo just for the sex
Neuroses? Do they recognize them as such?
i honestly dont see him having a mental illness
Intellectual pursuits?
intellectual isn’t really his thing. BUT  i can see him really liking labs and stuff
Favorite book genre?
he hATES reading, but mostly because he’‘s dyslexic and he was brought up thinking that he was dumb bc he had trouble reading. ponyboy is the one that ends up helping him, though, and sometimes he’ll read to curly (action books bc they’re the only ones that’ll keep curly’s attention. there are numerous times he regrets the decision bc curly cant keep quiet for more than a few minutes.)
Sexual Orientation? And, regardless of own orientation, thoughts on sexual orientation in general?
(i can already see the purly supporters @’ing me yikes) but PERSONALLY i think he’s straight. idk what this means by thoughts on s.o. in general but im bisexual ??? idc about sexual orientation ??
Physical abnormalities? (Both visible and not, including injuries/disabilities, long-term illnesses, food-intolerances, etc.)
he’s got a lot of scars, mostly on his knuckles but a few up and down his arms. he’s deathly allergic to seafood but doesn’t care bc it looks gross to him anyway.
Biggest and smallest short term goal?
biggest: honestly just making it through another day is an achievement to him
smallest: he swears that one day he will beat sodapop curtis in a drag race
Biggest and smallest long term goal?
biggest: being as respected as tim is when he’s older
smallest: he will own a puppy at some point
Preferred mode of dress and rituals surrounding dress
white t-shirt, jeans, tennis shoes, and if its not too hot then a leather jacket. he hates jean jackets tho and WILL make fun of anyone who wears them
Favorite beverage?
beer. but also pepsi. hes weird.
What do they think about before falling asleep at night?
we’re about to get deep. on good nights he just thinks about his day. there’s never a boring time with him, so he’s always got a lot to think about. he could be thinking about a girl he’s met or just hooked up with, or about what his friends got into. on bad nights though, he thinks about his dad and how he never got to know him. he thinks about how maybe he’ll never be like tim, and he’ll never be the brother that angie falls back on (that doesn’t bother him as much as it should, but it still pops into his mind) the number one thing that keeps him awake is never amounting to the shepard name
Childhood illnesses? Any interesting stories behind them?
just stupidity. he broke a lot of bones, needed a lot of stitches, and was bed bound too many times to count. there was one incident that tim loves to tell: the first time curly got into a fight. the guy was two times bigger than curly, but he didn’t care. the fight was done in 5 minutes, and curly had his first broken nose
Turn-ons? Turn-offs?
turn ons: i can see him really liking outgoing girls/ girls that are upfront. also neck kisses, collarbone kisses, hair pulling, back scratching
turn offs: daddy kink (seriously, its gross, stop forcing this on my son. he already has enough daddy issues) but nothing else really he will do basically anything
Given a blank piece of paper, a pencil, and nothing to do, what would happen?
either a very crude & poorly done drawing or a sign that says “curly is the hottest shepard”
How organized are they? How does this organization/disorganization manifest in their everyday life?
he is NOT. it doesnt really bother him that hes disorganized, but it drives tim up the wall. he’s always getting onto curly for being a slob
Is there one subject of study that they excel at? Or do they even care about intellectual pursuits at all?
he doesn’t really care, but since he’s forced to go to school he might as well enjoy something, which ends up being the labs in science. he likes the dissections, mostly, but he thinks looking into the microscopes are cool too (mostly bc him and his friends make shapes out of the slides)
How do they see themselves 5 years from today?
alive, hopefully
Do they have any plans for the future? Any contingency plans if things don’t workout?
he kinda just takes it day by day and doesnt care about the future. hes a strong believer that things will fall into place if theyre supposed to happen
What is their biggest regret?
probably being too emotional and not toughening up enough when he was younger
Who do they see as their best friend? Their worst enemy?
SO this is an OC but his best friend is a guy in the gang named brian. his worst enemy is also in the gang and his name is jimmy and he fucking hates that kid.
Reaction to sudden extrapersonal disaster (eg The house is on fire! What do they do?)
he’s probably the one that caused the disaster, so he immediately tries to fix it on his own. which usually works, but it leaves a mess behind that he’ll attempt (and fail) to cover up. a few hours later he’ll get chewed out by tim.
Reaction to sudden intrapersonal disaster (eg close family member suddenly dies)
so lets say tim dies. tim is the only person that curly is really close to, because if there’s one thing that he learned from his brother it’s to never let anyone too close. but he always thought that tim would be there for him so he worshipped him. but ANYWAY tim dies and curly shuts down. i can honestly see him losing it bc tim was all curly ever knew, he was always there to fix the mess curly got himself in and now he’s just kinda alone in the world. he’d still have the gang, but they’d remind him too much of his brother, so he’d eventually cut ties with them. it’d take a major, new person to bring him out of his stump, and thats if he ever really brings himself back to normal
Most prized possession?
the hand-me-down leather jacket tim gave him
Thoughts on material possessions in general?
doesnt really care about them bc he doesnt have a lot. he likes the things with meaning, but couldnt care less about expensive & nice things
Concept of home and family?
hes VERY family oriented and a huge mama’s boy, but he hates his step dad. he’d do anything to protect angela and anything that tim asked him. family always comes first with him
Thoughts on privacy? (Are they a private person, or are they prone to ‘TMI’?)
it kinda depends. on his sexual life hes really TMI, but about emotions and family and secrets he’s really private. you could count on one hand the amount of people that he’s told private stuff to, and even then they don’t know the full story. i think the only people who would ever truly know him are tim and his significant other
What activities do they enjoy, but consider to be a waste of time?
football!! and hes actually good at it. tim never plays tho so the only time he gets to is with the curtis gang
What makes them feel guilty?
fucking up on a gang job and letting tim down
Are they more analytical or more emotional in their decision-making?
more emotional!! that’s the biggest difference between curly and tim. tim will think of the long-term effects before making a decision, where curly is more of an “act now, think later” type person. his decisions are usually the wrong ones, but they make for a better story
Would they consider themselves a Type A or Type B personality?
i’d wanna say type B, because he is super laid back and easy going and isn’t really competitive (unless its for a joke)
What recharges them when they’re feeling drained?
getting away for a while. he loves driving and ive always seen him as having a little secluded spot that he goes to by himself during his teenage years. eventually though he finds the right person that he can take, and just being with them makes him feel better
Would you say that they have a superiority-complex? Inferiority-complex? Neither?
neither tbh. he may think that he’s better than some greasers (because honestly he is) but he doesnt think of himself as above other classes. he finds it unfair that socs and middle class people have a superiority complex, so it’d be dumb for him to have one. he just thinks everyone should be equal (but he knows theyre not, and for that reason he’ll fight any soc he can get his hands on)
How misanthropic are they?
hes very easy to get along with if you come from the same type of neighborhood. he’s open to everyone that’s cool with his gang, but he’ll be the worst kind of person to rival gangs and rich people. so he doesnt dislike people, because he can be a really cool guy, you just have to come from his streets
Hobbies?
football, fighting, drinking, poker. y’know, d00d stuff
How far did they get in formal education? What are their views on formal education vs self-education?
he graduates high school and thats it. and he definitely values self education more, the stuff he’s learned by himself ahve been more useful to him than the Pythagorean theorem ever will be
Religion?
he believes in a god but never really thinks about it. hes not religious by any means but i think it kinda comforts him knowing something comes after life
Superstitions or views on the occult?
he doesnt believe in superstitions imo!!
Do they express their thoughts through words or deeds?
both. he’ll talk a big game and then follow through with his promises
If they were to fall in love, who (or what) is their ideal?
THE QUESTION IVE BEEN WAITING FOR OK if curly ever fell in love, it’d be with someone making him feel okay with being him. they’d make him want to be a better man & not just a mini tim. they’d have to accept that curly would always idolize his brother, but they’d also help him detach a little. they’d love him for him and accept the fact that they can’t change him. they’d probably be just as wild as he is, bc they’d have to keep up with his lifestyle. they couldn’t take life too seriously and would never know what the future had in store for them. i can see curly eventually being able to be romantic, but it’d never be in public
How do they express love?
kisses, holding hands, little acts of kindness (giving them something that reminded him of them, asking how their day was, remembering little things)
If this person were to get into a fist fight, what is their fighting style like?
daddy came to win
Is this person afraid of dying? Why or why not?
nah i dont think he is. i think he’s kinda accepted that there is a very real possibility that he won’t make it past 30 w the way he’s living, so that’s why he takes it day by day

hi!!! i love your writing so much especially berserk! it so weird and cool to think you basically wrote a book in 6 months- that's goals tbh. you're goals tbh. um for the ask writing meme, can you answer all even numbers + 53 with berserk as the story if that isn't too much??? if you don't want to do all that may you please do #30-54 even (+53). sorry if thats too much its just all the questions are super good!!! i hope you have/had a lovely day!!
2. Favorite part of writing.
The world building! God, I love world building so much. I try to make each universe distinct and playing around with locations/language/history is always super fun! I really want each universe to be memorable in its own right, something that really stands out to people!
4. Do you have writing habits or rituals?
Not really? I guess the only thing that comes to mind is that I always write out the dialogue for a chapter before doing anything else.
6. Favorite character you ever created.
I don’t do a lot of OCs, but I actually really adore everyone I created in Berserk, so you can expect Magi and Katya to be coming back at some point!
8. Favorite trope to write.
I don’t think I have a favorite tbh!
10. Pick a writer to co-write a book with and tell us what you’d write about.
Concept: @not-just-any-fangirl and I get together and write an fantasy/erotica novel.
12. How do you deal with self-doubts?
Take a break and read fics for a while, then kick myself in the ass and throw myself into writing something more upbeat.
14. What’s the most research you ever put into a book?
I guess Berserk with the languages? tbh I don’t do too much research for fics, considering a lot of it is stuff that’s coming directly from me.
16. Where do you take your motivation from?
Anything and everything! A lot of it is feedback from readers that keeps me going, but sometimes I see something so inspiring that I just have to write about it.
18. What’s your revision or rewriting process like?
I usually don’t do revisions until I’ve completed something, that way I know exactly what I need to change. With Berserk, I have to do a lot of revising to the beginning because of a timeline change and adding in things I forgot to include earlier on.
20. Post a snippet of a WIP you’re working on.
“Witches,” Lucy explains, answering Porlyusica’s question, “aregenerally more versatile Mythics.” She glares down at Flare, who sneers back. “Peopleare more likely to hire us because we’re better known and more reliable.” Flarescoffs and Lucy arches a brow, smile a bit too sweet as she flicks her gazeaway from the irate redhead, focusing back on their professor. “We have betterreputations,” she continues, aware of Natsu watching her from the seat behindher. “Why hire a siren when a witch can do the job just as well, but withoutthe added risk of drowning you in your bath tub?” she asks the class, hearingFlare hiss, the sound promising pain.
-witch!AU based on a lovely drawing by @constellunaa
22. How many drafts do you need until you’re satisfied and a project is ultimately done for you?
lmao what’s a draft
24. Poetry or prose, and why?
Prose. Poetry is the bane of my existence.
26. Standalone or series, and why?
Series! I love how much added character development comes with multiple books!
28. And who do you share them with?
I deleted the earlier question so I have no idea what this means???
30. Favorite line you’ve ever written.
Umm, probably any of the lines in Berserk where Natsu compares Lucy to gold. I can’t be bothered to search through to find them right now!
32. Easiest character to write.
Probably Natsu, honestly.
34. Handwritten notes or typed notes?
Typed unless I’m in class and don’t have my laptop.
36. A spoiler for Berserk.
The ending of arc 1 is going to leave people pissed and also excited.
38. Have you shared your outline of your story Berserk with someone? If so, what did they think of it?
I don’t share my outlines, but @not-just-any-fangirl knows what happens at the end of Berserk, and she seemed to like it lmao
40. Original Fiction or Fanfiction, and why?
Both! I mostly write fics, but all of them are original ideas, so it’s like, a fic only because of character names and descriptions sometimes. I do have some original stuff I plan to start soon, but first I need to outline them and meh
42. How do you figure out your characters looks, personality, etc.
I model it after the world around them.
44. Best piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten.
I’ve been told a few times that my fics help cheer people up when they’re upset and that’s probably the best thing I could ever be told.
46. What would your story Berserk look like as a tv show or movie?
It would probably be a darker TV show, probably similar to the tone of Game of Thrones, but without the unnecessarily added rape. Berserk is pretty serious most of the time, but with it’s lighter moments, so???
48. Favorite genre to write in.
Fantasy of all kinds, but I also adore crime AUs. I actually have plans for a White Collar AU at some point.
50. Weirdest story idea you’ve ever had.
The one where Natsu’s penis turned into an actual snake. That one was actually Maci’s fault because I was joking and she encouraged me.
52. How did writing change you?
I have friends and a passion now.
53. What does writing mean to you?
tbh everything. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if I wasn’t writing.
54. Any writing advice you want to share?
Don’t give up if you love it, but know when you need to stop.

C7 - Week 2 Results!
Hello everyone, Week 1 is over everyone, and so here are the critiques, and winner for the week! Remember there is no elimination this cycle!
Week two results, the winner is:
Nadede Lasalle
Congratulations for making it to the top, let’s see if you will continue to stay there!
Below are the comments from the judges~!
 Flare:
Stephen Fairbrook: I actually like how the waterfall is your main focal point, but there is much more scenery around you for us all to enjoy. Nice work with the tones and hues.
Nadede: This is my favorite background among all the pictures. It's nice and vibrant with a nice dark tone to it. Your outfit blends well with it, same goes for the action animation.
Rivienne Cotrlaint: Nothing like taking a refreshing dip on a hot day. This would be the perfect Eorzean summer picture. I would have also loved to have seen your eyes. The hair covers much of the face with that angle.
WoW Wie:  A great vibrant and colorful background, the lighting isn't much here but it's all thats needed to be honest. One thing I would have changed was maybe found a more 'dance' oriented pose if that's what you were looking for.
Kusuh Valentione: This actually looks like your training/meditating in front of the waterfall, making you the focal point, instead of just posing with a waterfall in the background.
Noesis Phobos: What a view! This is gorgeous and you make it look like you do it every day. The angle is just right.
Doki Kodoki: Another vibrant background with a soothing pose. Nice use of the amazon pants as well.
  Gangly:
Doki Kodoki
Beautiful! The darker background creates a nice contrast that really helps you pop out with the light on your back. And that screen effect! It works perfectly to brighten you up, but also reminds me of sun rays trickling down. Your dance creates an elegant and soothing mood to the shot, and it feels as if you are one with nature, finding peace and quiet as you dance with the fireflies. I don’t want to be that person, but your waterfall is rather small and hidden, but I do get the impression that there is a much larger waterfall to your right because of the taller rocks and water. Nonetheless, the composition of this shot is fantastic!
 Nadede Lasalle
I’m getting some Stormblood hype with the martial arts under the waterfall! The screen effect adds some soft light in the top corner, as well as brightens the plants in the back. Your pose and outfit work very well together, and because of the screen tilt, I feel like you’re about to kick some water at the screen! I know the lighting around the plants is weird, and as a result, I think the light hitting your body looks a bit unnatural because of how dark the right side of your body is. I’m not sure if moving over to the right would help lessen the lighting on your back, but I also think you could have zoomed in just a bit closer! I do love the moonlight hitting your face and the top of your shoulder and arm; really gives it that midnight training feel!
 Kusuh Valentione
I love the waterfall to your back! You and the waterfall are the only things the viewer can focus on! The white of the waterfall is a great contrast to your darker skin. Your pose works quite nicely to give the sense that you’re meditating, and the screen effect gives the shot an almost dream-like quality, as if the viewer is about to pulled into your thoughts as you meditate. I think taking the shot straight on instead of from the side could intensify that effect. Because you are facing left, I feel the shot is slightly cut off; I want to see what is on the other side. I am also not sure if the pants you chose are the best choice. It is mainly the belt that is throwing me off; it has a pirate feel to it. I do like how you chose to go shirtless because the wet effect on your skin defines your muscles and allows me to imagine the splashing of the waterfall even if there aren’t any visible effects!
 Rivienne Cotrlaint
Hahaha, I love the story of this shot! The distance in which this shot was taken is just right; you are close enough to be the main focus, and because we can see the surface of the water but not your legs, it creates the illusion that you’re waist-deep in the water! Having your back turned to the camera and face slightly turned to the side gives your character a very sexy feel along with the black bikini. I’m not sure the screen effect works as intended in this shot. Because it is bright out, the screen effect gives the shot a foggy look. I’m curious as to what the shot would look like at night, where the effect would be more prominent. I am absolutely in love with your expression however; it brings the whole piece together!
 Noesis Phobos
I am in love with this perspective! The angle in which the shot was taken manages to not only keep you in focus, but shows the grand depth of the waterfalls and how high up you are in comparison to the bottom of the water. Your outfit and pose display an adventurous mood, while your smirk reveals your unmoving confidence as you “live on the edge”. The lighting is just right, and I can tell that the Brilliant 2 effect added a bit more around your face and the middle of the shot, but it’s so faint it almost looks as if it’s not there. Of course, the focus is not supposed to be the effects, but I feel a more visible and “hard” effect such as reflection blur could really give the viewer a sense of added intensity to the already daring feel of the shot!
 Stephen Fairbrook
The western feel of this shot is so unique! The desert may be unforgiving, but it also contains some beautiful secrets! I love your outfit in combination with the background and filter; the cowboy-like outfit sets the theme of the shot as a whole, and the location, filter, and effect serve to enhance that. The colored pencil filter added interesting value into your outfit, making it more prominent in the shot, and the light hitting the rocks creates a nice contrast to waterfall in the back. Because of how bright the foreground is, your face becomes a bit overlit as a result. I think taking advantage of your hat and looking down so the front tips just over your eyes could create a bit more shadow on your face and give you a cool cowboy look!
 Wow Wie
What a lovely nighttime shot! You are practically surrounded by waterfalls, and the moonlight hitting you is fantastic! The screen effect adds some nice glow around you, and your outfit and dance give off a carefree and relaxed mood. I think the camera could have been tilted down just a bit, because it looks like you are looking off at something else. I also think the pose you chose during the dance makes it look as if you’re a little slanted because I can’t see the rest of your legs, and the majority of your body is slightly off-center. If you were over to the right just a bit, I could make sense of your looking off in the distance, as well as giving the shot a sense of motion as you dance!
 Katarh:
Nadede - Now THIS is a perfect use of camera tilt!  It provides a different view of the background without distortion, but more importantly allows your character to appear upright in the frame.  Brilliant 2 (popular choice this round) softens the background and makes it feel ethereal, but doesn't overpower the character.  It gives almost an oil painting quality to the lighting in the upper left corner. Good usage of the rule of thirds, and great composition all around.
Stephen - This feels like something out of a vintage magazine. I love the concept of a cowboy returning from the desert. Noise 2 was a nice choice for this composition, although I wish you'd managed to capture even more of the distortion and lines to make it really feel like a tale out of the wild west.
Doki - Tiny waterfalls for a tiny Lala.  I like the pose and costume along with this setting - like you're completing an ancient ritual in the moonlight.  The fireflies are a cute touch as well.  Brilliant 2 adds some splashes of color to break up the monochrome, but otherwise doesn't distract from the composition.
Noesis - Lovely choice for a waterfall at the Tilted Ewer. This is a really cool perspective shot and I love the effect from the forcefield directly behind the character. I'm having some trouble seeing the Brilliant 2 effect here, though, and the sharp bare edge of the cliff is a bit distracting in the lower half of the image.  Sometimes the choice between showing all the character and cutting it off to avoid polygon issues from the game engine is a really tough decision. Your outfit is perfect for the location, as if you're an explorer or a merchant setting off on a trip.
Kush -  This is one of the simplest backgrounds this week - and with the reflection blur, it works perfectly!  It draws the eyes straight onto the character, who is running through his exercises.  I like that he's looking away from the camera, but the shot might be a bit stronger if he wasn't dead center.  Also really nice outfit selection.  Those biceps! (swoon)
Rivienne - Back shots are always a risk but you pulled this off nicely - the impression I get is a coy warning to not come any closer!   Brilliant 2 adds some splashes of color, but I think this relatively plain background could have used just a bit more dressing up.   Good choice of outfit to be a bathing beauty - I think the matching ring bands are a nifty complement to the bathing suit.
Wow Wie - Dancing in the moonlight below the stars, with colored lights all around!  Great choice of waterfall and outfit - it really sets the scene.  I think this shot would be a bit stronger if your character was more wholly in the picture, and off center.  Don't be afraid to play with those camera zooms!  I really like the faintly upturned gaze, as if she's spotted something off in the distance, far from the view of camera.

I could not make this shit up if I wanted to I have just gone trough the most surreal experience of my life
so today was my first day with the basics of animation course. real fun real doozy. theres only 5 people in it.
One of them is the one I will refer to as Ollie to hide his name. Ollie is like, 40 or something. He's always been very in touch with art but his family wasnt exactly rich and everyone is like a truck driver so he didnt have a lot of support. He moved from São Paulo to Gravataí, a city very near the one I live, Porto Alegre. He's mainly a comic artist and he did some other animation courses but never formerly studied the basics, hence why he's in this course
He mentioned he has a DeviantArt and that he does commissions and earns a good buck from them. During interval I went to talk to him and see if I could get some tips on how to raise visibility so I can get some money with my commissions.
You Will Not Believe What Happens Next
He told me pretty much how to make a commission anouncement post and all that and he made sure I wrote there what I could NOT draw because the internet was weird. To which I replied yeah I know
And this dude
He just looks at me and asks dead serious
"Do you know what vore is?"
I could not make this shit up if I wanted to.
He asked me if i knew what vore was and how it was heavily requested
He told me about this story of this guy who commisioned him 40 comic pages and later cancelled. Ollie found out why the dude cancelled a few days later: some very famous furry artist did an auction in his Patreon and this fucking madman fucking offered to pay 1000 dollars per page and he commissioned 3 pages of furry vore.
He paid 3000 dollars for furry vore so he had to cancel all other commissions
Other iconic points touched in this conversation I had with Ollie were: "Do you know what furries are? Draw them" "There's a type of furry that is very popular: ponies. Especially my little pony ones" "Another big hit in the market are elastic girls. If you draw elastic furries you're set then"
I was in utter disbelief. This isn't even the worst part
This class was being taught by a man well in his 50s/60s who was a pioneer in brazilian animation and also a younger guy in the industry and founder of the movie company providing the courses.
These two aren't really aware of the informal art market, they don't know how commissions work. For them, earning money via art is either by pitching your idea to channels and getting funding for a series or movieor like, contracts with other companies as illustrators. They don't really know about commissionsguys
Now rewind back to when Ollie asked me if I knew what vore was, to which I replied I did.
Then the pioneer in animation and an elder citizen makes the million dollar question
"I don't know what that is. Can you tell me?"
This thing happened right in front of my eyes. it happened and I was just in utter disbelief it couldnt be happening
Ollie immediately answered, he didn't bat an eye explaining what vore was to the teachers and the other 3 students.
Everyone's jaws hit the fucking floor
No one understood. No one could fully grasp the concept of a human being paying money for someone online to draw that for them just for the sake of having it. No one could comprehend the deeply complex mindsets of deviantart users. The gasps of raw surprise were endless
We are hitting the thrilling conclusion of my tale
Our activity today was to draw model sheets for a character we'll animate throughout the course. Ollie proclaims "I will draw my furry"
and I was like ok dude you know what that's fine there'a no problem with that. I myself actually drew a furry, I drew my inkling OC
And I was just you know its cool this guy aint so bad.
when we got to the classroom, this manshows me the artwork of the furry he was gonna draw and thats when it hit me
that's when I realized exactly what type of human I was interacting with this whole time
He showed me the most generic, anime furry fish bullshit with balloon tits I have ever seen.
i realizedi finally understoodt
his is the type of being i was interacting.
I've always seen these types of drawings online and I was like oh dude thats fucking embarassing no way anyone actually IS like this right????? how foolish.
how foolish of me.
You know those DA accounts with a bunch of neon colored titty furries with inflation fetish and weird elastic girls and boobs that take up the entire fucking screen?
I know the man behind the magic.
I have met in real life a person who sits on his computer and makes the conscioous choice of drawing that kind of content.
One could argue that he’s only doing it for the money but he chose one of those weird fish titty characters to animate throughout the course. He chose that of his own volition.
Either I have met someone who proudly draws fish balloon titties and thinks its perfectly ok or he’s just so dead inside for dealing with fetishists online that he no longer wants to hide it.

BODYMOD: Are you woman enough to survive Bitch Planet?
Imagine a world where women are subject to punishment for being “non-compliant” and sent away to prison, literally on another planet! That is the premise of the smash hit Sci-fi series “Bitch Planet.” In this dystopian universe, when women are seen as being defiant and resistant they are sent to The Auxiliary Compliance Outpost, aka “Bitch Planet.”
  Bitch Planet
I recently started reading the Image Comics series (Bitch Planet by Kelly Sue DeConnick & Valentine De Landro) after first being introduced to Triple Feature issue #4 (contains 3 short stories in one book!) The short stories coexist in the Bitch Planet universe and you can read them without reading the bitch planet series and vice versa. However, it captivated my attention so I am now reading the initial BP series! Check them out Here:
I’m going to focus on one of the mini stories from Triple Feature Issue #4: Body Mod written and illustrated by the super talented Sarah Woolley.
This original story is a perfect demonstration of an extreme sci-fi extension of today’s society.
Body Mod: Written and illustrated by: Sara Woolley
Triple Feature #4
Bitch Planet Triple Feature #4
RATED M
BodyMod is a sci-fi world where plastic surgery is a norm and done to the max. So extreme that there is literally a Build a Babe! Can you imagine, modifying bodies as a part of everyday life.
This mini story presents some touchy subject matter, heavy themes and can relate to society today, which is pretty disturbing. I think it’s alarming thinking of this world as a reality and potentially something that could be likely in the future when our youth is so heavily influenced by what’s trending in pop culture, social media, and “enhanced beauty”. Today’s beauty standards are already disturbing, and Body Mod demonstrates a perfect exaggeration of today’s society with a sci.-fi twist.
Here Sara takes us into the deranged world of BODY MOD.
1. How did you first get involved with the Bitch Planet series?
I met Kelly Sue DeConnick at Heroescon in Charlotte NC, 2 years ago.  She not only took the time to check out my work, but wrote to me after the fact to let me know she liked it so much she had passed Los Pirineos all around the Milkfed Criminals office.  I love work so needless to say I was totally floored.  It was really very cool of her. I sent her the 9th of april when it came out the next year and maybe a few months later we saw each other at ECCC in Seattle.  She was looking for contributors for the anthology, and asked if I would be interested.  HELL YES!
2. Congrats, as this is your first independent comic that you have both written and illustrated! How did you go about the process of accomplishing this?
When Kelly Sue asked if I wanted to be in the anthology she said “You do it all, right? Write and Draw?”  I said yes… and then panicked a little inside.  This story is my first professionally published solo work.  Up to this point I have always written with collaborators, for example the Los Pirineos Books which I coauthor with my mother.
3. Any issues, you faced or did you have the creative freedom to do you what you wanted with the story?
I definitely had a lot of freedom on Bodymod. Kelly Sue and the managing editor at Milkfed Criminals whom I worked with primarily, Lauren Sankovitch guided me through the pitching and writing process, but they gave me the space and encouragement to come up with and to pursue my own vision.  They had me come up with several different story ideas that would make sense in the context of the Bitch Planet Universe – but made me limit myself to very rough, brief ideas.  So I was able to really be broad about the story generation process without investing too much time into it.  My biggest issue was figuring out how to tell the story I wanted to in 8 pages.  I still feel like there was a 24 pages comic in there somewhere… but I tend to be long winded.  I learned a ton from Lauren and Kelly Sue working on this project.
4. You typically write children’s books, did you find it difficult working on this storyline, and how did it feel crossing over to more mature themes?
I felt absolutely fine with it.  I’m not a child, and I the work I generally read is not aimed at children.  To be honest, it actually felt very freeing.  However, the different content definitely confuses some people.  I’ve had fans of my previous books get a bit freaked out when they find out this is also my work.  I’ve been told that it doesn’t look like my work and seems like another artist did it.  I definitely don’t agree with that, but I can see where they are coming from.  I hate the idea of having to be pigeonholed into one genre of stories and one way of making art.  So… I’m just not allowing that to happen.
5. How did you come up with the premise for Bodymod?
The premise behind all the stories I came up with for the anthology came from the experiences of just being a woman navigating daily life. The premise behind Bodymod in particular comes from my feelings around the social pressures that are omnipresent in our lives every day asking that we conform to an idealized and unrealistic concept of feminine beauty.  Growing up I had my own struggles with body image. I’m 5’10 and just under 200 lbs, and I’ve been this size since High School.  Lets just say the 90’s were not kind to thick girls, and being strong was not thought of as sexy.  The anger and sarcasm present in the story is the current me, who feels great about who I am and what I look like, telling the world world just how little a fuck I give about fitting into a role and size I was never going to be anyway.    (steps off soapbox.)
6.  Although its sci fi, this subject matter touches some heavy themes pertaining to real life. How do some of the themes in the comic tie into issues our society faces today?
The whole premise of Bodymod comes from the idea of redesigning your body to be beautiful to the point of discomfort, in the story its taken to an extreme because the Bitch Planet, sci fi world allowed me to really push it.  However its important to understand that the cultural norms that Julie and Monica are assimilating to are not Sci Fi.  Whats the difference between lotus feet, stilettos that can only be worn in bed, or feet surgically altered to become mermaid fins?  Yes in my story the women essentially turn themselves into helpless pets, but all of them sexualize fettered women.
There’s a spread on pages 2-3 where Julie is on a bus and you see background advertisements behind her.  I had intended to make up some really jarringly misogynistic ones… until I looked them up. There is NOTHING I could come up with that was worse than reality.  ALL the ads on the page, including the magazine cover, are real.  I never stop hating this one ever time I see it:
7. Who has had the biggest influence on you in or outside of the comics industry, and how did they affect your life?
Ok now THATS hard.  I would say my mom has probably had the biggest influence on me, but I’m not sure if that is really what you meant.  She’s a feminist and raised me to be one too.  I wore overalls and did science experiments and was encouraged to be messy and do whatever I wanted to do better than the boys.  I am really very lucky.  She is a role model for me, but she’s also my inspiration, my writing partner and my biggest fan… which since we work on her memoir together maybe that also makes her, her own biggest fan?  hmmm…
8. What’s the most important “big idea” that you’ve learned in life – in or out of comics – and why is it important?
I’ve learned by watching the amazing comics pros that I am proud to call my friends that you must work hard, and I mean REALLY hard, to make comics.  That sounds obvious but its not.  There are a lot good creators out there who make very little work and just peter out.  But the truly brilliant ones work incessantly and when asked how they do it, discipline and tenacity is usually the common denominator.  I know an artist who told me he videos his comics commissions so he can see later where he is loosing time on them by “just fucking around”.  I know another who every time she is asked for advice says “Draw whether you are sick or well.  Draw whether to feel like it or not.”  Now, I’m not saying I’m like that, but I aspire to be.
Also what else can we look forward to from you in the near future?
I’m currently working on the next Los Pirineos book to follow up last year’s release of The 9th of April.
So hopefully by next year’s MOCCA I’ll have that one in hand.  FINGERS CROSSED.  I also have a book of watercolor sketch painting I did while traveling in Thailand for a month this winter.  I’m still trying to figure out the format of it.  Its a mixture of painting people and places on location… and all my meals!  I’m obsessed with food and theres no explaining just how good the food in Thailand is, so I painted it all to help mark it in my memory forever.  I might try including photos and recipes too… not sure yet.
