I'm not sure if this kind of lack of romance/sex/fanservice is normal in action stuff (my anime/manga list is very short and HIGHLY filtered thanks to friends), but I am curious about it....

I started making stimboards a while ago, granted I'm not the most frequently active even with a queue, but I greatly enjoy carefully crafting a board, digging up sources for gifs, ... still, I cant stop feeling a bit hurt that I get next to no notes on them. A single board easily takes me 30 minutes to 1 hour, and a recent one got 1 note. That's all. I was so proud of it, and now it feels like it was all in vain, despite the fun it was to assemble. I love seeing you on my dash btw, I love your gifs and boards. But yeah. Did it take you a while too to get a decent amount of notes / followers ? I try my best to use appropriate tags for reach. I dont even do super niche themes. And I tell myself to just keep at it, with enough time and effort I'll have some more followers too. Idk. I was just hoping for some words of encouragement if you can spare some lol

i 100% understand this frustration and i have a few questions for you.

firstly, is there any way you could send me a board of yours so i can see the tags and potentially give some advice about that? it's okay if you would rather not, i understand wanting to maintain anonymity.

secondly, if you did want to send your blog my way, i could potentially reblog some of your stuff and help you gain some traction.

now for some encouragement, i promise your work matters regardless of followers or notes or anything like that. the internet has a sinister way of making us feel as if the only way our work is important, even to ourselves, is if it gets lots of recognition and interactions and clicks. this is wholly false, and a dangerous mindset to get stuck in. (i'm still in it and i hate it. i work so hard to not care about notes but it is so hard, especially when you're raised by a critical voice when it comes to your art.)

i will always encourage you and anyone else to ignore the numbers. i know this is extremely hard to do, especially when you're just starting out and you want to make your work seen and be praised, but i promise it will help build healthy habits in regards to posting your work and not taking the fun or meaning out of it for yourself, because at the end of the day, making art should be for you and satisfy you first and foremost. i made the huge mistake of getting into the numbers game in regards to my work and i regret it every day, quite literally. and yes, it did take a long time for my boards and gifs to start gaining traction. i've had this blog since 2017, i have been making boards since...2019 i think, maybe 2018, and gifs since either late 2019 or 2020, i think, and i didn't start seeing major interactions (1k+ notes) for about two to three years.

if your work is fun and fulfilling to you; if it satisfies your creative nature in a way other things can't, please keep doing it. i promise it is worth it to make the art 100000% self indulgently rather than to rely on attention from others to progress.

so here's the thing. when i made this blog, i was very unhappy on tumblr. i wasnt a fan of the "culture" here - the users, the popular opinions, even the staff/site itself are so incredibly toxic. i thought that maybe making a blog like this would be fun & make me hate tumblr less, & for a while that was true, but it wore off fast. so for the past month & a half ive been strongly considering deleting all my blogs & leaving for good. this blog is just another chore & it takes place on a site i genuinely hate. it's true that ive been less active due to medical treatments but it's also just that i despise this site. so yeah, im leaving. i'll finish up the requested polls & put them in the queue, but after that im gone.

no, this isnt an april fools joke, i just get so angry & hateful being on this awful site with these awful people & their awful posts. dont get me wrong, you guys have been great. i really appreciate all the tags, supportive asks, & compassion for my loss & struggles. but i want to cut tumblr out of my life, it's negatively impacting me.

Time passed and you'd left niki hanging for a great deal of time. His lingering stares while you walked past and the times you felt him burning holes into the back of your head didn't go unnoticed. If anything, it only fueled your hurt. 

Whereas niki thought over and over to his previous moments with you, attempting to spot any fault of his to no avail. Given, he was no mind reader and barely knew you'd been there to here what prompted him to approach you in the first place.

It was the sense of betrayal and how naive you were, to even believe the boy. Presently, you resented him. But you still couldn't find the will to extinguish your undeniable feelings for him. The less you saw him, the more the fire went out. 

It was an asshole move to just ignore the boy like that but then again he is the one that went on with the preplanned bet. And you held against him. 

Every instance he took initiative to actively talk to you, you'd shrug him off and give him the cold shoulder. No remorse because you felt pity for yourself. He got the obvious hint and hadn't tried in a while. And that was what let you down a bit. 

It's not like you were expecting him to pester you till you forgave him. The resistance in his attitude towards you made you feel guilt, though he was the cause for this mess. He could apologize and it'd vary if you'd accept. You let the fact marinate for a bit. 

Yet his words of confession stuck with you. "i like you," you did but couldn't find yourself to forgive him without any words of concern, which niki seemed more than eager to do. Ultimately, you were the one stopping him for explaining. 

You would hear him out, not for the sake of it but because you wanted to prove his words to be true. So what was really stopping you from doing so? Now that thought pierced through your line of thoughts and you remained stumped. 

You huff and head to an empty space to blow off steam and whip out your wireless headphones, playing music of your choice. Freestyle wasn't something you were confident in, let alone dancing in front of a crowd. 

That was before niki came along and helped you progress and overcome your fears. You begin pouring out your amass of queries into expression and skip around the room, relieving your pent up frustration.

Unaware that niki stood right outside the door listening to the sound of your moves and the squeak of your sneakers. You spin and dramatically hit the floor, twisting your ankle, your sudden imbalance tripping after an aggressive sequence of moves. 

The thump startles the boy and he jumps to grip on the handle, hesitating before clicking the entrance open. Your pained snarl to the impact leaves you curled up on the floor with your hair splayed out on the floor. You did not want to call for help, not after the recent turn of events. 

But help just happened to be a door away. Niki waltzed in and bent to his knees, your expression pained and pale from the nasty fall, "are you okay?" 

Your ignorance wasn't the question here, but his kindness. He was looking out for you even though you'd been a total asshole to him and that's what's got you pooling tears in your eyes. Mixed with the pain shooting for your ankle and the swell from the depth of your heart. It yearned for the sweet boy yet you weren't all that sure if he was sweet.  

He appeared from amidst the door and kneeled, inspecting your ankle and how great the damage was due to the nasty fall. It'd hardly been a few minutes and the swelling had begun. Earning no answer from you, he voices his concern once again, "are you okay?"

Three words was all it took for the tears pooled in your eye to water. You restrained any from falling further, panning away from him though your tears threatened to cower over the ledge. Despite your harsh and self centered attitude, the ignorance you showcased had not sprung any sort of resentment or negative emotions in him.

Here you were, judging the boy way too hard all over eavesdropping into his conversation with his friends. Even if it was a dare, had you cared to stop and think whether niki would actually lie about harbored feelings for you. Now, lying seemed highly improbable and cruel but he didn't seem like that kind of person.

But he seemed like someone who'd carry out a dare for his pride? Your reasoning was far too biased and jumped to a conclusion before you could hear him out and listen to him with no clear judgment. The entire time, he was asking you to lend your ears to listen and you were busy rejecting his every attempt because of your pitiful assumption.

You were the asshole right now, not him.

If niki was the douche bag in this situation, why would he be kneeling beside your wounded self and searching for a first aid kit for a scrape band? Either way, your ignorance and assumption is what caused this all to go south.

Your own trains of thoughts and self realization pushed a river of tears over the ledge and you sobbed silently, due to both the throbbing pain erupting violently in your heart and the pain shooting up from your ankle. A crack of a sob made niki whip his head towards with his eyes wide as he gripped onto the kit and practically ran across the room and slid onto his knees by your side.

He grabbed the band and freed it from the packaging, being careful with your twisted ankle and slid your shoe off with ease. Your hands helped your sock off and he scooted closer and bent down, still a good distance away from your foot, and wrapped the band carefully.

His concern, care and confession all were tell-tale signs but nonetheless your doubt caught you in your own mess and fueled more tears to dribble down your cheeks and fall to the wooden floor boards while Niki finished wrapping the band on your bruised ankle. He retracted his hands and managed to glance up at your tear stricken face. No words said, he pulled into a hug instinctively.

"i'm sorry,"

Why on earth would he be sorry? It was you who needed to apologize, and he owed an explanation at most, where you wouldn't jump the gun. Before you could utter a word, he continues, "i'm sorry if I hurt you in anyway, it was never my intention too,"

The way he gently ran his hand through your hair, calming you down as you felt more tears spill from your orbs and onto his sweatshirt. "why'd you ask me out?" you queried, trying to sound somewhat collected from the wreck you'd become. 

"at first, it was because jungwon and sunoo dared me to approach the next person through the door and ask them out. I know this sounds like a petty reason and it was, but that was before I began enjoying my time with you, so much so that I manifested feelings for you. That being said, don't feel pressured to give me an answer right away,"

You sigh, feeling the anxiety bubble in your stomach as you pull away to look at his softly drawn features, now pulled together in a frown with his eyebrows knitted at each other. You had nothing to lose, "i do like you," you paused, the red shade dominating your skin, "i overheard your conversation with jungwon and sunoo in the dressing room the other day and assumed the worst… i'm sorry for acting like an asshole and giving you the cold shoulder."

You complete, playing with fingers as his arm remains snug around your waist from his warm hearted hug. The dip the height of his head brought your eyes to his and he gazed into them daringly. Maintaining that eye contact proved to be extremely difficult as he leaned forward, way too close for your mentality to process. 

Niki searched your orbs for any signs of discomfort and upon perceiving the flustered look, he tilted and sealed the deal, capturing your lips in a soft, small kiss. It was all over the place as you both tried to coordinate with the new experience, having no prior brief on how to go about this. 

You both pulled away and he laughed at the mutual silliness you two displayed, finding it cute. A hand cupped your cheek and his gaze was enough for you to melt away by his touch. "could we do that again?" you prob, the shyness hanging in the atmosphere. 

He slanted against you with a wide smile and pressed his lips to yours, the grin never wearing. The little giggles between the connection sent butterflies loose and wild in your stomach. It seemed better the second time around, figuring it out more so with chuckles emitting from both. 

The laughs drew to silence as he pulled away and softly stared into your eyes no longer longing and set his forehead to yours, his hand finding its way to your hand and clutching it in his grip and brought it up to his lips to press a chaste kiss to the back of your hand.

"i'm glad I didn't chicken out that day in the cafeteria,"

i was a queue monitor for a source blog for almost two years and it just really tiring even with working with other people because by the end people got busy/other commitments/stopped being interested etc. i remember a few times queueing up about a week worth of posts for like two hours (and everything had to be tagged which was why it took so long) my thumbs were begging me to stop lmao

a lot of fandom 'elders' or the people who did like gif-ing especially didn't see a lot of results for their labor. no one was reblogging their posts and the high like to rb ration compared to the past was a heavy blow because tumblr is a blogging based platform and rb's are the only way for posts to passed around (esp on older posts like from 2014-16) also a lot of the older creators are transitioning from school to full time work

theres also this death of interacting which each other in a casual way (unless you have an established following for that and ask games) like there are posts going around being like you can talk to me! send me questions! etc etc but no one is really doing that

in terms of fan content like everyone waits for the one big current thing to talk about like rn with dungeon meshi i feel like the last anime to pop off like on tumblr was spy family which was like two(?) years ago (the other animes dont' really pop their head [like sleeping giants lmao] or like keep in their contained circles but i might be nickpicking here) also new people coming in and not adapting to tumblr blog culture like is there even a source blog for dungeon meshi?

i had a fandom post that reached 3k 873 rb to 2127 likes, the majority of the people rb the post from me rather than a person they followed, there were only like two major rb chains which speaks volumes about the current follow culture here, everyone is going through the tags rather than following the creators

I knew about the like-reblog ratio problem but source blogs were created partly in order to encourage people to reblog stuff, so it’s sad to see that even they have fallen victims to this trend.

The Next Big Thing Syndrome (yeah, I’m calling it that) is also definitely a huge factor. I don’t think there are source blogs for DanMeshi, and you were the one who made me realize that. I’m baffled.

I also didn’t notice that the changes influx of followers and decreasing interactions were a thing for everyone. I honestly thought it was just me because I’d been on and off in unintentional semi-hiatuses last year. This is sad as hell.

15. how do you feel about ‘you need to reblog this’ posts - meh it's your blog at the end of the day, if you want to reblog something do it, if you dont dont. it's sad to see most people just like posts but they come from different platforms and fail to realize what kind of site tumblr is. hopefully eventually they will get it tho! amen
