The negativity is making me not want to read 911 right now. Like I have a few authors that I will still read cause they aren't spreading hate, but other than that, I'm staying away. I've unsubscribed from a couple of people cause they were doing bashing fics, and that wasn't what I wanted. My main ones are you, spots, hoodiebuck, monsterrae, and lozerdiaz for now. If you have any recommendations of authors I could read, I'd appreciate it. I just joined the fandom in August.

I can definitely understand where you’re coming from and why you may be pulling back from reading. Totally respect that.

It’s sad though, because it discourages writers (not including myself since you kindly continue to read my stuff) who are not spreading negativity but aren’t getting read because people are pulling back.

This isn’t me telling you what to do though - if you feel like you need to pull back, then definitely do. Your wellbeing is important. Don't let anyone try and tell you otherwise.

I get not wanting to read bashing fics either - I do try and avoid them for the most part, personally. But I will say that if people want to write and post bashing fics, that's totally fine as well, because it's their right (not that I'm saying you are implying people cannot). I myself have posted a Diaz parents bashing fic myself, and will fully support Buckley parent bashing. I just hope those people are tagging appropriately so people like yourself can avoid bashing stories when searching for new stories to read and want to avoid that.

This negativity and toxicity that has been growing lately is one of the sad sides of fandom. Unfortunately, we will never escape it. We learn to shift and adjust who we follow, what we read, and who we support so that we can curate our own happy experience. Not that I think there is a reason for being so negative or toxic. (Honestly, why can people not ship multiple ships??? Jeez.)

But anyways...I'm sorry that you are struggling to find enjoyment in reading. Because as I've said many times before, there is so many wonderful ideas being created for us to enjoy.

The authors you've mentioned are all ones I also read frequently (although there are a few of their stories I haven't read because of the pairing, but that's MY choice to not read and no shame to them - because newsflash to the haters- you do NOT have to read every single story, especially if you don't like it), so well done on your choices.

I think they are all lovely people on Tumblr and are wonderful authors with amazing ideas. I probably have more I could recommend too, but I did try to stick with more active people. And there are some authors on this list who are leaning heavily towards BuckTommy while others are still going strong with Buddie, so there's a mixture for people's interest in pairings. (I want to mention @hippolotamus & @lemonzestywrites as well -both of whom are working on amazing stuff but have life in the way and are currently unable to be super active with their writing but go read stuff they've posted on their A03 and support them, pelase. And also special special shout out to my lovely @actualalligator because how can I NOT mention Al?) And a few more A03 authors who I'm not certain of their Tumblr are: allisonRW96, justhockey, fleetinghearts, bccalling These are authors who I have been subscribed to since essentially the beginning of my entrance into the fandom and they have never disappointed me with their works.

I'm more than happy to make a post recommending some of the amazing stories I've been indulging in lately too. But this post is plenty long enough as is haha

Why is it always the people who have routinely ignored 911's diverse cast of characters and made the show only about buddie for years and years that are accusing tevan fans (most of whom are actually queer people) of racism and misogyny.

Like i didn't see y'all talking about the racism and misogyny (mostly misogyny bc most of em were white) that actually HAS been rampant for years and years and fucking YEARS against all of the actors that played Buck and Eddie's love interests.

But sure the problem is tevan fans who are largely minding their own business and just don't see any point in basing their interpretation of a character on his actions from nearly two decades ago as who he is (especially when said character has been textually confirmed to have apologised/made up for and grown past the negative behaviours several times) in the present day.

While we're on the topic of how much buddies care about women and people of colour here's some screenshots that i believe speak for themselves

Sure Ana wasn't a great character. I always disliked her for how she handled the Chris situation in s3 so I can still somewhat understand fics against her. But what have Madney and Hen ever done to deserve so much bashing in fics. I've even read popular fics that aren't tagged as bashing but still portray Maddie in a bad light for being stuck in an abusive relationship and needing to leave when she was struggling with post-partum depression

But sure. It's the tevan shippers that are bringing misogyny and racism into the fandom. It's not at all the buddies who literally attacked JLH and Kenneth for promoting a canon queer ship over a non canon ship on fucking Instagram.

Buddies are true warriors for us queer women of colour I tell ya.

The buddie/911 fandom cares soooo much about women and lesbians and henren just look at how many fics are in their ao3 tag after the seven years that they've been the primary queer pairing on the show compared to buddie which has been around one less season and isn't canon... Oh wait

There's so much more annoyed ranting living inside me but I have a job to get back to bc I'm actually an adult with real-world problems that don't involve imaginary bigotry from a fandom that was literally born a month ago 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Hi, I'm asking this question because I'm genuinely afraid. I want to post art I did/I commissioned a different artist of Pompous Pep on my blog, but I'm terrified of others attacking me. I've always liked this ship since I was kid and didn't it was considered taboo until I was older. How do you deal with hate? Would it be better to post on a side blog? My main DP AU does have Pompous Pep when Danny is in his early to mid 20s.

I answered a similar ask here, but this one also deserves its own answer. Here are some things you can do to protect yourself from hate:

✦ Turn off anonymous asks. That curbs 99.9999% of abuse, because haters are too chickenshit to send stuff that they can get reported for and possibly have their account terminated. If you do decide to open anonymous asks at some point and receive hate, you can still report it. More on blocking here.

✦ Make sure you tag your post with "pompous pep" so those who love the ship can find it and those who have the tag blocked can avoid it.

✦ As you can see, there are quite a few of us Pompep fans here on Tumblr, and it's good to be part of a community. Being able to laugh off anon hate with one another is a superb morale-booster. (If you spend any amount of time on Discord, DM me. We have a server, and you'd be very welcome there.)

Bottom line: Haters will always find a reason to hate something they don't like. You can never "perform" purely enough to please them, so don't even try. If you age up Danny and Vlad, they'll still bitch about the age gap. If you make them the same age, they'll bitch about the "toxic dynamic" of Enemies to Lovers. If you make an AU where they've always been friends and are the exact same age, they'll still accuse you of Shipping Crimes™ because it's still the same characters—even if all the obstacles that made the ship problematic have been removed. All you'll do is wear yourself out trying to conform to their standards, so just say "fuck em" and do what you want.

Me, personally, I've been in fandom too long to be bothered by anon hate. I report them, block them, and delete the message, and I don't waste any more energy than necessary. I also follow the golden rule of Don't Feed the Trolls. Haters thrive on attention, and if they get no response from you, they'll eventually give up their attack and move on.

I'm sorry that the actions of an idiotic, vocal minority have made you afraid to participate in fandom activities. No one should ever feel that way. Just remember that you're not alone. Almost all of us Pompep fans have dealt with negativity at some point in our lives, but that hasn't stopped us at all. We're still here, and we'll always be here.

✦ As for sideblogs, they're great if you want to keep certain stuff separate from your main blog, but it's totally up to you. Just keep in mind, if you want to block anyone from seeing your sideblog, it must be done from the Blog Settings of that particular sideblog. More on sideblogs here.

No Fandoms vs Illiteracy this week

I know I said there would be Fandoms vs Illiteracy today. But, after reading through the essay again, I noticed unusual language I hadn't seen before. I started googling and found that it's associated with the anti-shiping/anti-fan movement. All of a sudden, everything makes sense.

If you're not familiar with these people, they are a group of people within fandom spaces that believe it's their moral duty to harass anyone who consumes/enjoys problematic content or ships any problematic ships to any kind into conforming with their puritanical cult or killing themselves. So yeah, don't I want to engage with this one, but now I'm aware of this movement and will definitely be watching out for their lingo in future Fandoms vs Illiteracy entries

They are also very well known for doxing, and as someone who's had that happen before, I don't really want to engage with this one. Since I'm fully aware of what it is now and because of the hell they put me through in the old fandom. Plus, I now know they're aware of my blog. I will be monitoring the comments and tags more

Honestly, their movement sounds like the death of media literacy, critical thinking, and full-blown puritanical censorship. Because most people can separate fantasy and reality, and if you can't, you have a problem, and your problem gives you no right to bully, harass, and dox other people in the name of moral purity

Second of all, we got our twitter account back! We ended up deleting that one post that twitter didn’t like (yes, the one that doesn’t have anything explicit or any nudity on it), which obviously sucks, but at least now we can jump back to posting more or less regularly.

And now that this situation is over, I can say about the thing that honestly tickled me: the last person who wrote a callout post on me right before our acc got locked (=the person who very likely caused the massreporting in the first place) got accused of grooming a 13 y.o. and had their account terminated the very next day. What a great illustration of how the fandom climate works, right? Hilarious.

We love first year Rook with first year Idia so much, Anon, you have no idea! And Rook/Idia in general, this is one of the things that I really want to draw properly at least once. For now we only have sketches…

But to answer your question! I like to think that Rook was very intrigued by Idia right away; of course Idia isn’t a beastman, but he is not only super bright and shiny-looking (unusual! Interesting!), but also is a very rare pokemon to see. It’s very easy to picture Rook getting excited and charmed by him, maybe he even had a period of a little obsession~ But of course none of this is in any way returned by Idia; to him being suddenly surrounded by so many loud and annoying people his age is already stressful enough, but Rook is somehow worse than all of them combined. He hates everyone from Savanaclaw, but they’re usually just rude jerks, but Rook? If only he was a rude jerk…

This is such a good question, Anon. It’s honestly still kind of easy to imagine him doing that. He punishes himself constantly, and while I don’t think this is necessarily about control, this absolutely could be about wanting to make himself feel even worse or to distract himself from the other kind of deep pain he’s feeling. Since we’re talking about a character here, as an artist I can also add that seeing him this way could be aesthetically pleasing, there are some very good artworks with this theme.

That being said, we usually tend to think that Idia wouldn’t do that. I agree that Idia being phobic of pain sounds very like him, but also? He is very detached from the physical side of things in general, I think. He would rather torment himself mentally.

Another reason for Idia and selfharm not really working in our heads is that I don’t think Ortho would let him. He is very sensitive to changes in his health condition after all.

hi! person u rb'ed the fandom gatekeeping post from. it was very much written with a specific situation in mind: people who haven't engaged with the source material directly (meaning no lets plays, no proper excerpts, nothing) who act as if they have an understanding of said source material. often leading to shit just being completely made up and treated like canon. less "couldnt play the game themselves" and more "is claiming to know all about a book that they admit to never reading". i was venting about people claiming certain things about source material, who then got mad at me for correcting them while admitting they never read the thing in question. i should probably be more specific in how i present personal posts bc i always forget anyone can see them lol

on the one hand if i get myself to write kl*nce for my first bthb fill that is more likely to get readership than a gen fic and like that’s probably the solid move from a “clout” standpoint and like I ship it as much as i ship anything in that fandom. but. my entire comfort zone writing romance is like milves or dilves and especially established relationship like mature people. I cannot wrap my head around taking a teenage romance seriously even tho i vividly remember my own teen romances. and like i was a goofball in those... but that dynamic so antithetical to my writing style it barely computes.... like idk if i could write that and like write angst and hurt/comfort at the same time. i mean that’s part of the whole pushing myself out of my comfort zone
