silly episode idea but hear me out
okay well the first part isn’t silly! so the episode is based around a con they are doing where a polyam triad wants to get married and have been writing to senators and stuff for years but nothing has happened. maybe there is a time element that leeway has to happen soon (not sure what that would be yet, maybe someone is sick???)
(obviously polycules aren’t only and are often more than just a closed three-person system, but I’m saying triad right now bc I feel like that would be an easier and more ‘socially acceptable’ gateway into more accepting legislation for diverse relationship dynamics)
the leverage crew, of course, can’t outright change the public perception of poly marriage, but they can use the ‘enemy’s’ tactics against them and slip stuff into legislation without people noticing like they do. it’s slimy and it’s not a permanent fix, but it’s a start, and it gives people the opportunity to see poly marriage in action and that it isn’t as terrifying or pearl-clutching-inducing as they think it would be. there’s a long way to go, but the seeds of change have been sown and they will make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible
this is one of the cases that they will monitor on the back burner over time. some cons can finish within a few hours (the bottle job), and some things they will follow over time and make adjustments when needed- amplify voices and expose corrupt politicians etc
and then it’s just after 3/4 of the way through but the con has been finished? what is going on? this is where the silliness comes in
the camera turns to the ot3 and…
hardison, pulling out three individualized rings: I know it’s not legal yet, and we have the necklaces, but I think rings would be a nice touch
eliot, pulling out an intricately carved box that also has three self-handcrafted rings: dammit hardison (with feeling and tenderness, and damp eyes)
parker, pulling out three very stolen rings from her pocket: does this mean we’re getting triple married if we all have three rings???
harry pops into the conversation (practically vibrating) excitedly just casually mentioning that he’s a notary and would be honored to marry them to each other if they wanted to
(they do)
wait, did I say silly? I meant unwaveringly tender and heartwarming

Steve giving in and letting Dustin talk him into playing D&D with Eddie and his friends. Dustin helps him make his character beforehand but Steve doesn’t totally understand a lot of it so when they get there and Eddie asks what his alignment is, Steve doesn’t realize he’s asking about his character or what an alignment even is and he’s like “both I think”
Eddie pinches the bridge of his nose between his thumb and index finger and takes a deep breath and resists the urge to snap out I thought you said you prepared him for this, Henderson because he doesn’t want to scare Steve off five minutes in so instead he takes a second to calm himself and his eyes are closed and he’s focusing so hard on trying to keep himself from shouting but there’s still an edge to his voice as he lets his morbid curiosity get the best of him and asks “both of what?”
And Steve’s like “What do you mean? There’s only two options, isn’t there?”
And now Steve’s confused because everyone’s looking at him weird, but he’s heard of guys being into guys and obviously he’s heard of girls being into girls considering he’s best friends with Robin and he’s told her about him liking both and she never said that wasn’t allowed or that there was some other option? How do you like more than both? (Steve lives in Hawkins in the 80s so he still hasn’t found out about gender not being a this or that deal)
And now Steve’s less sure of himself so he asks “Why are you all looking at me like that? What option would there even be outside of girls and guys?”
And Eddie catches on first while everyone looks so confused, but it takes him a moment of just staring open-mouthed at Steve and he’s not even sure if he’s more surprised that Steve isn’t exclusively into women or that when he thought that was what Eddie was asking, he just announced it in front of the whole Hellfire Club before he manages to find the words to say, “I asked your alignment, not your orientation”
And Steve furrows his brow and tilts his head a little and his “oh” sounds more confused than anything so Eddie adds “your character’s alignment, Harrington” and Steve says “I don’t know what that is” and turns to Dustin for help because he made the character so he must know but Dustin’s just gaping at him so Steve asks “dude, what is it?” But Dustin’s still stuck on the fact that in all of their conversations about Steve’s love life that Steve never once mentioned being into guys so he asks “what the hell, Steve?”
And Steve has a moment of panic while he can’t tell if he’s in trouble for not remembering his character’s alignment or because Dustin has a problem with him liking both (which Robin has warned him could be a possibility if you tell the wrong person, but this is Henderson and he really didn’t think that after the bullshit they’ve been through so far that that would blow things up and he didn’t think it was all that risky bringing it up in a group that literally formed because the people in it are different than and don’t fit in with the average high school student and when he shares way more deadly secrets with the majority of them) but he finds out pretty fast that neither of those is what Dustin’s annoyed about when he glares at Steve and complains, “Come on, man. We’re best friends. How have you never brought this up before?”
And Steve just shrugs and says “it never came up” and Dustin says “oh, sure, it’s never come up but you tell Eddie just like that?” And Steve’s confused because he said it in front of all of them so it’s not like he wasn’t just as willing to have Henderson know or like he wouldn’t have told Henderson on his own if he’d had reason to, so Steve just says “he asked”
And Eddie raises his hands up in a show of innocence as he says “I definitely did not, but that’s… good to know” and Eddie’s never just casually thrown his sexuality out there because he’s well aware he would not win in a fight and he’s terrified of getting hate crimed but his friends are giving him looks like they’re wondering about it from the way he said it and how tense he suddenly went but even if no one is harassing Steve for liking guys, he’s not about to just throw his own orientation out there five seconds after finding out Steve likes guys just to make himself look desperate and have everyone know that it must have happened when he’d inevitably (in his mind) get rejected so he focuses back on the game and snaps his fingers petulantly as he asks “Henderson, what’s his alignment?”

so we both originally hate elves and are the siblings of a monarch of katolis who we lose, and we're devoted to protecting the border and humanity at all costs, even when it comes to sacrificing the personal safety of our young charges, and i'll lie to you and you'll lie right back to me and we both knew king harrow equally well and mourned queen sarai, we both interrogate restrained children who slip up and say "we" when we know they should be alone in their endeavours, when we both respond to loss by being closed off and isolationist and "stoic strong and lonely" only for you to get out earlier than i could even begin conceptualizing for myself, we're both snarky and sharp witted in ways other can find insensitive or callous, "i would've asked you to choose the egg over my own life if you had to" / "but amaya you won't survive [...] she said the rest of us will," we're both taken captive and submitted to the light trial by the sunfire elves, only i kill one sunfire queen and you protect a future one, and we ultimately advocate that "we gain nothing if we throw away the chance to learn and grow" and "no matter where you are on the path, every step forward is a choice" while refusing to prioritize our own personal futures over what we deem is more important in S5 (re: keeping the sun seed safe even if that means risking janai and not killing sir sparklepuff to guarantee your own existence). amaya and viren prequel when

The Fellowship of the Cake
For @steddiemicrofic prompt: cake | WC: 311 | G | no TW | single dad steve uwu babysitter eddie uwu Edit: This is a trilogy now ;-;
Steve could have informed them he finished work early. Therefore, it was his fault he got slapped in the face with something moist and sticky as soon as he entered the kitchen.
He could safely open his left eye and see Eddie in the middle of his kitchen, hands on his mouth and eyes wide. In panic or glee, it was hard to say because, again, one eye. But knowing him, probably both.
"Care to explain?" he asked while his daughter hugged his leg in greeting. When he opened his mouth he got to taste the goo on his face. Vanilla.
"You're early," Eddie murmured. Not an explanation.
"Cake missile!" Joy exclaimed with glee.
The culprit was obvious, so Steve turned his gaze to the only other adult in the room.
"Uhhh," Eddie was approaching him cautiously with a washcloth. "So we bought a cake-"
"Birthday cake!"
"Yes. But it got squashed."
"Eddie sat on it!"
"So we got a second one, but then we got an idea-"
"Food fight!"
"Exactly! But we made a deal because we are civilized. Right, Joy?"
Meanwhile, Eddie reached him and started gently wiping the cake off his face.
"One throw each. And clean up after!" she recited.
Steve hummed.
"So I should get one too, right?"
Eddie froze.
"Steve."
Joy, like the best daughter she was, put a lump of cake in his hand.
"Start running, Munson."
He tried, but Steve's old jock skills were still intact. After hitting Eddie's hair with ease, he grabbed the squirming man and hugged him close.
"Thanks for the cake," he said with honesty. "I'll help you wash your hair later," he offered.
It was something he's been dreaming of for years.
"Yeah?"
The breathiness in his voice sounded promising. Steve tightened his grip, shoving his face closer to his neck.
"And you could do mine?"
"Yeah. Okay."

i wrote some fic for a friend fic exchange and don't want to make four separate posts so here they all are!
title: dream a little dream of me fandom/pairing: men's hockey rpf | brady tkachuk/quinn hughes rating: explicit tags: alternative universe - supernatural elements; getting together summary:
Quinn doesn’t see the future, except for when he does, sometimes, maybe. He’s never sure that it’s real.
Especially the part where he keeps dreaming about Brady kissing him.
-
title: push-pull fandom/pairing: men's hockey rpf | matthew tkachuk/leon draisaitl rating: explicit tags: porn without plot; pre-trade; handsy behavior; ambiguous/open ending (in the pre-trade sense) summary:
Matthew can’t help glancing at Leon’s thumb, at the path it's tracing as it dips under the hem of his sleeve. It’s a casually possessive gesture, staking out a square inch of territory. It puts him in mind of two months ago, when they were sitting on the couch at Leon’s place, drinking the beers Leon offered before they got down to the reason Matthew was there; Leon’s arm had draped over the back of the couch, his fingers resting in the notch of Matthew’s shoulder in a way they had never done before, and Matthew had sat there, fist choking the neck of his beer bottle as he tried not to go crazy from wanting to pull away from it. From wanting more of it.

OK I promise to stop sharing all of my writing praaahcess, but I did figure out the other day that one other reason this Broadchurch fic is giving me trouble is because I haven't written a ball/dance into the story anywhere and that's frankly shocking
She's sweating a bit, her bloody awful hoodie tied loosely around her waist and revealing a monstrously pink top underneath. Her hair's been shaken loose from its ponytail and the curls are everywhere, spilling over her shoulders and sticking to her neck; even as he watches her she blows a strand out of her face. It immediately falls back to where it was.
"I haven't done that that in ages," she says, still breathless. "Didn't think people still played Tubthumping in clubs."
"It's not a club, it's a school dance," Hardy contradicts, because if he doesn't, he's going to reach out and tuck that strand of hair behind her ear or something equally horrific.
She rolls her eyes. "We're supposed to be chaperones, not pedants." Whatever the new song is, it's at least less frenetic, and those who aren't singing along are sorting themselves out into pairs. He's about to suggest they extricate themselves from the throng of adolescent hormones when she holds out her hand. "When in Rome, I suppose."
He takes it, but he's got no idea what comes next — not until Miller puts her other hand on his shoulder and like that, it's decided; his free hand lands gently at her waist, just above the belted sleeve of her hoodie. He swallows and keeps his eyes fixed on the top of her head.
"Were you and Maggie worried about me spilling my guts to Olly?" Miller asks, as if they're bickering in the car instead of… whatever this is. "Is that why you braved the sea of youths to cut in?"
"Not at all," he says, leaning out of the way of someone behind him, enthusiastically singing about laying down his weapons. It moves them closer together, and he curls their clasped hands in to rest on his heart.
"So Maggie wasn't, but you were," she deduces, infuriatingly; her fingers on his shoulder drum in irritation. "I do know how to keep my gob shut about an investigation, you know. I've had practice."
"I think Maggie just wanted to — what's the phrase?" He nods in their general direction. "Take a turn about the room, sort of thing."
"So she asked you to dance?" Miller scrunches her nose up at him. "Did you tell her you were in no mood to give consequence to ladies slighted by other men?"
"Am I Mr. Darcy now?" he asks, looking down at her. A mistake; her top isn't particularly low-cut, but from this angle he's got more of an eyeful than he ought to have.
Not only that, but she's looking up at him, smiling, and that's far more dangerous. "You'd be an absolutely rubbish Mr. Darcy," she says.
"How d'you mean? I'd be outstanding. I don't like anyone, nor does he."
Miller nods, thoughtful. "That's true. You're broody, so is he."
"And I make even more than ten thousand a year."
"Wa-hey, we've got an eligible bachelor here, lads," she laughs. "Or whatever the line is, a single man of good fortune, in want of a wife."

I don't like DDLC'S MC very much on a very petty level but I still wish there was more fic or meta speculation about him. I'm not interested in him as a character, though, because he's barely a character. Literally by the game's standards, he has no inherent "character file." He is the SCRIPT, if anything. All of his thoughts and actions occur within the little text bubble at the bottom of the screen, and so do the characters'. He barely appears in CGs, has no body sprite, and it is through his observations and his thoughts and his call to make choices that the game progresses.
I think that specific trait of MC is fascinating, especially given how deep reaching Monika's manipulation is. During Act 1 he is active, he is talkative, he has a definitive (and yet inconsistent, based on which girl(s) you're speaking to) personality. He has thoughts about just about everything going on. And yet in Act 2 he is reduced to dust. He stops having any kind of commentary and he almost never remarks upon the horrible occurrences around him unless prompted or unless it is something that could plausibly happen in the realm of reality, like Yuri abandoning him for 10 minutes and Natsuki collapsing on him. But even then he's still significantly muted. Yuri and Natsuki have a horrible fight and the only kind of response he tries to throw out is co-opted by Monika. He witness Yuri declare her love for him and talk about how she would love to pull his skin open and crawl inside of him and the only thing he has to say is "yes" or "no" when she asks if he likes her back. And then he physically cannot move or speak or react because the world is so far gone that Yuri's death has damaged him, the script, so much that all he hears is gibberish coming from her lifeless mouth.
And like... that's neat to me. I like that by the end of Act 2 the script is so off the rails and so far gone from reality that MC can no longer really function as a person, because the script is barely functioning. He stops reacting to anything happening around him and most of the conversations he has are just the girls talking at him. Monika has to literally rewrite the script and force Yuri and Natsuki to say things to further her agenda or keep the scene rolling. MC had a clear and very human response to Sayori's death because it was a plausible but horrible (and not forced) event that could happen naturally. Yuri's death was so jarring and away from the scope of the natural order of his world that MC (and Yuri, by extension) can only sit frozen and broken until Natsuki and Monika show up to force new progress.
Like Monika's effect on the girls has been talked to death and it is an interesting topic but I also think what she unintentionally did to the POV character of the game is also something neat. It really adds to the feeling of the world in DDLC being hollow. The MC is a half-character who can only react in incredibly predictable ways, and when the world stops being predictable, he stops being anything more than a walking camera for Monika to speak into.
#ddlc#this isnt even really a character analysis this is just my vague jumbled thoughts on this guy#ive always found mc interesting even if he irritates me#when i was bored and a middle schooler i used to imagine this self insert of mine in his place#what choices would she make if she knew the ddlc world was a farce? what choices would she make if she didnt?#would she be beholden to the game structure and choices written in the game's script?#could she change anything? how would she feel if she knew the girls in a context where they were her normal friends?#these scenarios were of course some random shit i thought about to make PE less awful#but it made me think of how horrible and strange it would be in mc's position#and subsequently how mc himself kind of never gets the chance to BE in his own position in a way#he is fully beholden to the whims of monika and whatever the girls around him are doing at all times in act 2#even in act 1 his personality and motivations fluctuates constantly depending on which girl u are talking to#mc is the script and the script is mc. he never had a chance to change anything and neither did you#the only way you can do anything in that world is to be a character a .chr a person. and mc is not a person in any meaningful sense#on the topic of 'hey wouldnt it be fucked up to actually experience ddlc as a Thinking Person'#'to your eternity' (anonymous author) on ao3 specifically chapter 1 of it is a cool fic based on that thought#anyways. i know mc mostly just shuts up because it would be lame if every time yuri's eyes bug out he's like 'jeepers creepers!!!'#but i think his dwindling presence makes him an interesting non-character ❤️#doki doki literature club

Working on a Switched-at-Birth AU (not the show) with Danny and Tim but I just wanna make it clear to anyone who’s interested in this (whenever I finish writing what I can i’ll post) that Switched-at-Birth doesn’t mean they experience exactly what the other did in their life.
That’s the TLDR while my anxious overcompensation is below if you want that
Lots of things are blatantly different, especially for Daniel Wayne. Just because you see a lot of what looks the same on Tim’s side doesn’t mean that it isn’t very different just like with Danny. There’s only one-two Canons with Danny Phantom. There’s TOO MANY with DC content containing Timothy Drake. I can’t exactly match their lives even if I wanted to and I don’t.
So just- if you’re a like a purist or something for Tim Drake’s life then please make sure you keep in mind this ISN’T Tim Drake it’s Timonthy Fenton and Daniel Wayne.
Nothing is exactly the same even if lots of it does seem it at certain points. I point this out cuz I know some of Tim’s major life points won’t happen and some of his major character traits may not show up initially or in the same ways as is known typically.
Same goes for Danny but I’ve never seen anyone get really torn up over his character being different in some way so… I’m inexperienced thus less anxious about it, I guess.

Falling for a fool: #11
Things change. And they stay the same.
There are new recruits to herd, new missions to carry out, fresh battles to fight. He once again gets a team to lead and proceeds to inflict his constant bubbling enthusiasm on them. You know they'll have his back anyway.
Just as you know he'll charge ahead, leaving them behind, taking all the dangers on by himself.
It's a blessing, sometimes, being too busy to worry.
