Having now finished Tiny Heist, I've gotta say that I'm so happy for Dad McElroy for coming on d20 and having a new audience for his silly dad jokes because the Son McElroys are visibly so over it (valid, that's the correct response to your own dad) while everyone else is delighted and is clearly claiming him as their own bonus dad

This is a public service announcement to say, if you haven’t already, please do yourself a favour and check out Worlds Beyond Number, helmed by the incredible Brennan, Aabria, Erika and Lou. I’ve just listened to the first two eps and it’s so charming and whimsical and funny. I’ve laughed, cried, screamed and felt every emotion in between. The start has definitely given me both studio ghibli and Discworld vibes, which is the highest compliment I can give. And the production is just outstanding, all of the sound effects and music by Taylor Moore is absolutely chef’s kiss. As much as I love watching critical role, there is something about just listening and losing yourself in a story. It’s clear so much love has gone into this project and it has produced something really special. Plus, the eps are only around 1-2 hours! I realise I’m late to the game here and maybe everyone is already on board. If that’s the case then this is just a post to sing my praises 😌

hey to a gorgug liker what do you think about his nightmare section from sophomore year? cause I feel like the horror there is less “ah my grandparents were racist” and more “fuck am I being a stereotype? are the people who hate me right about me?” cause wrt to his having to modulate between barbarian and artificer in fhjy it’s like. idk

Tbh, I had zero recollection of the racism stuff until reading this. It was just SO MINOR. His trial in the forest felt really lackluster to me. I feel like everyone else's really dug into an issue at the core of their character and his felt more like "everyone is getting a trial, what do we do for gorgug?" And idk if that was just a bad delivery/call on Brennan's part or if it could have been helped by Zac engaging more in it but it just. Didn't feel like anything. It was a lot more about the dice than the horror of the claustrophobia and the bugs and you've never fit in anywhere you live to make yourself smaller wherever you go you're just the loser who hits hard. Like yeah I guess there was an overarching theme of Gorgug gaining confidence in himself but it was done very poorly imo.

And I think his trial in the forest was wrong for putting such an emphasis on his intelligence. I think that would have been much better suited in fy, back when he was still being heavily bullied, but beyond that it felt like a quick and easy thing for them to grab. Yes, he had insecurities about his intelligence with all the complications with Zelda. But, to me, the focus of fhsy was his HEART. It put a spotlight on how his social circle has grown, and his bully is his friend now, and he's not alone anymore. His interactions with Ayda, the friendship book, trying to help Fabian, I believe in you spring break, it's Gorgug keep going. I made a post earlier in the season (including a great addition by another user) that I think articulates that emphasis on his emotional intelligence very well.

Fhjy HOWEVER. I think it's doing everything that sy failed at. It's giving him space to have an inner conflict. It's addressing lots of little issues and conflicts he's had over the campaign and combining them into one coherent piece. Like, guy was in a relationship pretty much all of fy, and then dealt with the fallout in sy, but I don't think we've EVER seen as much quality relationship development with Gorgug as we have in jy. He and Fig spent an entire summer together trapped in a tour bus and no season has indicated that bond and friendship more than this one. He and Riz have found something to bond over, meanwhile in previous seasons there was pretty much zero one-on-one personal interaction between them. Fabian expressed sadness over Gorgug leaving the Owlbears, because it was the only thing they had that was just for them to hang out and be friends.

Just with that, we're already doing leagues more with Gorgug's character than we ever have. And I haven't even STARTED on his barbificier journey, oh dear god lmao.

Gonna preface this bit with a post I made before the season even started. It was about Zac's steady improvement in his performances with every PC, and how I was predicting that it was gonna culminate into a Gorgug that does him the justice he deserves. It was initially supposed to be a criticism, but I got a little lost in the sauce of loving my boy lol. Still very relevant to the topic of this ask!

God, where do I START?? Addressing his relationship with rage? I'll be honest, I didn't think that would ever be used as a character arc. And I'm not even sure why I've felt that way. I just didn't think... I didn't think about how he might've had a dislike for his own rage. Like, the WAY he rages isn't bad by any means, but I don't think it ever crossed my mind how actually harmful his lessons to sing to combat rage were. No, I did not like the way Porter went about teaching him (a bit too unsupportive of his capabilities and reminiscent of shitty teachers for my liking). But his point about EMBRACING anger; that rage is not bad and does not— should not— need to be stifled. THAAAAT. That opened up such an interesting dialogue for Gorgug.

I do appreciate the beginnings of Gorgug's interest in artificing in fhsy. I think the crumbs of it back then did a great job of leading into his larger commitment to multiclassing. And I think what he's been doing with it this season is exactly what was lacking in his section of the nightmare forest. His trial was a puzzle, based entirely on die rolls, where his solution after failing even when he's assisted by the enemy is to essentially give up. I understand that facing their fears was the whole point of the trials, but his section came off as incredibly anticlimactic and unfulfilling. Just the fact that it was a trial based on stat numbers more than the development of the character itself.

Where junior year succeeds in actually showcasing his intelligence and the evolution of the worth he holds in himself is with the hands-on approach it takes. Yes, the academic rolls are still dice and stats, but there's a physical manifestation that wasn't there before. Gorgug is smart when it comes to getting his hands dirty. It is in the practical applications of his skills that his brand of intelligence shines the most.

And while, once again, I did not LIKE Porter's heavy resistance to multiclassing....I have to admit that I don't think Gorgug would have had such a boost in confidence without that struggle. Even if my boy had trouble expressing it to Porter verbally, HE STOOD UP FOR HIMSELF. Instead of simply rolling over and agreeing that he wasn't built for a technical class and it was stupid to try– he was DEFIANT.

The kid who said "I'm a dumbass. Eat me you stupid bug." took on FOUR CLASSES. Three school years worth of artificer simultaneously. AND stayed with the Owlbears. AND went along on party missions to help Kristen's candidacy. AND was always on deck to help the party with the overarching plotline.

AND HE ACED IT!!! THE FIRST BARBIFICER THAT THE AGUEFORT ADVENTURING ACADEMY HAS EVER SEEN!!!!! He is paving the way for every unprecedented multiclass that follows.

Just in comparison to who he was in the previous season, the amount of drive and self-worth he's gained is astounding. In my eyes, it's done more than enough to makeup for the way his development fell flat in sophomore year.

i hope this fulfilled the ask in the way you were hoping! i told you i'd get carried away lmao. writing a bunch about any of zac's characters is always such a joy. gorgug had always been my favorite of the bad kids but i always found myself wishing he went deeper, y'know? and now it's real. my precious anxious boy has been handled so well. and watching zac's growth as a performer has been such a blast.

Izzy out of control on NSBU/AP like the cast is talking about Christmas, Brennan starts singing "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and this woman comes in with "...don't I know you- sirrrr?" from fuckin Sweeney Todd which I only know bc Im obsessed w Sweeney Todd and recognized the exact melody and shit and OH MY GOD. Fantasy High Characters and the song I think they'd listen to the most off the new Taylor Swift album

Kristen: okay early Trackerbees Kristen would listen to But Daddy I Love Him SO much and probably post lyrics on instagram. Judgemental small town with religious overtones opposed to a relationship? Just like her fr. Post-breakup Kristen blasts So Long London SO LOUD that the rest of Mordred Manor starts to have weird pavlovian responses to any song with the same chords.

Sandra Lynn: Sandra Lynn would not make it past Fortnight on the album I fear she would hear one song about an affair and turn off her phone. Sorry Sandra Lynn I love you queen but she would not have a good emotional time with this ablum

Jawbone: Jawbone WOULD love Fortnight but he doesn't pay attention to anything but the chorus and sort of assumes it's about the game. Occupational hazard of working with youths.

Riz: I truly beleive Riz was a Dateline kid and he'd like a cool song about going to Florida because you murdered someone. It's got burying bodies in swamps and stuff! Florence + The Machine is there! Great song for murder-obsessed teens.

Fig: I Can Do It With a Broken Heart because, she claims, "it's got a great beat!" (she misses Ayda)

Sklonda: Just pick whatever song you think people would listen to during sex and put it here. We know next to nothing about Sklonda/Gorthalax but I assume the sex is good so fill in the blank.

Kipperlilly: Kipperlilly was actually listening to Who's Afraid of Little Old Me on airpods when she stabbed Buddy Dawn and Brennan just didn't mention it. She's like 'oh an angry song for a short person that people don't want at parties? that's me.' Yes good question she WOULD sing the asylum lyric without any irony

Rueben: Rueben HATES Taylor Swift he DETESTS her no one can bring her up around him or he will go on a RANT but catch him crying to loml and thinking about Wanda Childa

Tracker: Nara walks on in her listening to How Did It End? and is like "oh why are you crying???" and Tracker has to lie REAL FAST and say she's thinking about Gallicea (sorry Nara)

Gorgug: All of the Bad Kids band together to keep him from hearing a single song off this album so that he doesn't think about Zelda and start crying.

Aelwyn: imgonnagetyouback because she loves to sing about violence

Adaine: Adaine listens to the first eight seconds of The Prophecy over and over against her will because Aelwyn keeps sending it to her under various guises being like "did this happen? did you see this? is this what the old elven people want?" it's like Elven Oracle rickrolling. To be clear - Adaine hates this song.

Fabian: I think Fabian would hear ONE sad song, think about the immense loneliness he feels every day, and throw his special edition vinyl out the window like a frisbee.

Gilear: Gilear accidentally downloaded an Enya album

Arthur Aguefort: this one is hard to explain but I think Aguefort would choose Clara Bow as a karaoke song despite it being one of the worst potential karaoke songs on the album. This is deliberate on his part. Also I think he'd be a real Stevie Nicks girlie.

It was time for Sam to pick you Up for whatever he had planned. You were asking him about it but he refused to say anything, leaving it as a surprise. When you arrived to some huge building you began to be nervous,not knowing what to expect.

You got into an elevator and on the fifth floor, going inside the first door and that's when your jaw dropped. It was a recording studio.

"Sam what are we doing here?" You asked, looking around the room curiously.

Sam just had a smile on his face " recording music, didn't I promise you a duet?"

You were in shock but in a good way, you weren't expecting this at all. When everything got ready you and Sam sat down on chairs in front of microphones and Sam started playing piano softly, watching you more than his fingers and started singing.

Afterwards we had lunch talking and joking around. Meanwhile Colby woke up with a hangover finding out you called him but he didn't know anything about that. Brennan didn't tell him. He sighed,he missed you and was looking forward to seeing you again soon.

He didn't know you were bonding with Sam so much, Sam became your best friend easily and you loved him dearly. Little did you know Sam liked you a bit differently than you liked him…

Hey, question: would you be willing to give us more about the dp x tfrb prompt? the one about danny/cody? Any hc or anything like that?

Sure! I’m currently working on a fic for it now, but I’m willing to share some head-cannons that won’t spoil anything.

I’ll do Cody first:

Since Cody was a Lad Pioneer (basically a Boy Scout) he would, like, be able to recognize a bird’s call and replicate it. I hc he would also have Brennan Lee Mulligan levels on bird facts, not just North American birds, but birds across the world.

Give him an audio recording of a bird call and he would tell you what bird it is, where it’s located, and all that jazz in seconds.

He’s a nature nut too, that’s cannon. But I imagine he has all the little guid books you can get in 4Winds (a fun thing my school did to get people into nature. They handed out these little book on pond life, birds, and bugs. There were a lot of them). He has Eagle Scout levels of this and beyond.

He would also know CPR, and other medical stuff, he has the training. We don’t see it in the show, but I believe he has the skill. It would be weird if he didn’t.

I also hc Cody knows how to cook. He’s not a chef by any stretch, but his home cooking is pretty good. His dad taught him how to use the grill. I like to imagine he cooks for the family sometimes.

I hc that when Codys’ super duper stressed he starts quoting rescue codes if the situation calls for it. Chase uses these codes more often, but Cody specifically uses them when under extreme stress.

Cody tends to notice the little things along with Frankie. It’s to the point he can spot a speck of dirt in a bucket of glitter. He would totally be the first to notice something is going on with Danny. He wouldn’t know it’s ghostly stuff, but he would hypothesize Danny is an alien.

And fun fact that I’m totally going to abuse in my fic, Danny and Cody both wear red and white sneakers in their respective shows. Like, their different, but the colors are still there. I noticed this one day while doing research. It’s almost like their inverted!

I find it funny that they have similar fashion senses.

Now for Danny:

Danny would find it funny that they have similar sneakers and go all middle schooler on the fact.

Danny would have heard of Griffin Rock from Tucker and his parents, but mostly from Tucker. Sam would appreciate the environmental side of the island. Danny would love the bots, but he wouldn’t know their aliens before coming to Griffin Rock.

Danny can’t cook to save his half-life but knows the Fenton Fudge Recipe. Heck, like his parents inventions, he makes it even better then them. He even knows how to make it vegan for Sam.

He is a tech genius and doesn’t even recognize it. He has great battle prowess too. That’s, like, cannon— but I like to think he would thrive in Griffin Rock with Frankie and Cody giving him words of encouragement and whatnot. The Docs would love to work with Danny and discuss tech; and later Tucker, Sam, and Jazz. Maybe other characters too. I also hc that he’s dyslexic, not dysgraphic. He can write very well, but his spelling and reading sucks. He may also have some undiagnosed ADHD.

He knows how to play the guitar and sing. He’s picked up a few things from Ember.

I hc he has freckles, their faint, but present. They glow in his ghost form when he’s filling an obsession, happy, or blushing. His Lichtenberg scars are faded, but darken when he’s struck with electricity in both forms. No new Lichtenberg scars will appear though, it’s like the already existing ones absorbed them.

I also hc he has weird heart stuff that only shows when connected to a heart monitor in human form. He can turn his heart on and off and be fine due to the ghostly stuff. He’s cold like Winter itself, the cold never bothered him anyway type deal.

He won’t be killed when drowned and stuff in human form, but that doesn’t mean he won’t choke and lose consciousness. He feels the pain, though, and hates it with a passion.

I hc that he has two obsessions, but he doesn’t know. No one knows. It’s just that rare.

I also hc that the Infinite Realms is a sentient being that has been watching over Danny since day one. He’s like their child.

Fun fact for the fic: The Realms are not the only ones watching Danny. :)

Danny and Cody have a lot of similarities that I would like touch on, but I’m going to save them for the fic.

In this series I’m gonna just be dumping a bunch of my hcs surrounding different relationships and characters in Bones, because I’m insane and need to get my thoughts out somehow!

Zack x Sweets hcs

I think they would sing/play music together and (in a reality where Zack is free and Sweets is alive at thr same time) they are karaoke partners

They’re T4T and end up bonding over it when Zack mentions that Hodgin’s paid for his top surgery

They both really like physical touch once they get close with each other

Sweets loves playing with Zack’s hair especially

They play chess together (Zack is astounded and a little mad when Sweets wins)

Zack goes from (mainly) calling him Dr Sweets to Sweets to Lance as they get closer

Booth makes fun of/complains about Sweets liking Zack until Sweets calls him homophobic

They get into heated discussions/debates over sci-fi movies (and other shared stereotypically nerdy interests they’re both shown to have), mainly a debate over whether Firefly or Star Wars is better (Zack on team Firefly-he’s right- and Sweets on team star wars)

Zack actually really likes nicknames and terms of endearment (as seen with Hodgins and Cam in particular) and when Sweets catches on he starts using a bunch of them with Zack (Zacko, Zackaroni, Addy, etc) one time he accidentally calls him Zaddy in an attempt to start a new nickname and is mortified (this goes over Zack’s head completely)

Sweets gives him a weekly update on the cases they’ve solved, with details and sometimes photos

Sweets loves Zack’s freckles/moles

Zack agrees to let Sweets (attempt) to teach him psychology if he lets Zack teach him anthropology/complex math

They’re terrible at flirting because most of Sweets’s flirting goes over Zack’s head and most of Zack’s flirting are complimentary statements without a clear tone

Those are some of my sillier ones these are some of my sadder ones

Sweets helps Zack with his lasting nerve damage chronic pain and scar tissue care needed due to the explosion using tricks he learned growing up to cope with the injuries he suffered due to abuse

Zack is deeply jealous of Sweet’s relationship with Brennan and Booth and struggles to understand that Sweets found the familial love and validation he craved from them

Sweets is deeply jealous of the level of respect and professional validation Zack receives from Booth and Brennan

Zack ends up developing c-ptsd and suffers from flashbacks and severe nightmares as a result, and Sweets tries to help him cope but Zack is too guarded to let him help much

Sweets is quietly jealous and a little resentful of Zack’s massive ‘loving’ family because of how he grew up (only child, adopted, bad foster homes )

Zack’s family doesn’t visit him (hes basically disowned) because of how horrified they are about Gormogon (they called him a freak just because he worked with bones I doubt they’d try to empathize with alleged murder and potential cannibalism), when Sweets finds out he’s both guilty for being jealous and furious about it- he almost calls Zack’s family but he asks him not to

Zack ends up trusting Sweets enough to tell him details and stories about Iraq and Gormogon that he never tells anyone else

He thinks of Sweets every time he sees his reflection and his scar (post s10)

Zack develops a habit/stim of rubbing his head scar when he’s upset because it makes him feel closer to Sweets

After getting out Zack visits Sweets’s grave regularly, to return the care shown by Sweets through his weekly mental facility visits

If I did a rise tmnt/tmnt Sing Street AU I’m not sure if Donnie or Mikey would be Eamon. Because Donnie could be the sister and there is some emotional potential in that. All three siblings want to get out, Brennan gave up, the sister is taking what she sees as the surefire way out, and Connor? He’ll dream his way out of it. But he also kinda fits Eamon’s vibe?

But Mikey is the one deep into art, though he could instead be the manager. He could also be the sister, who loved art but gave up on it, because it didn’t seem like a survivable career, and has a bit of joy in cooking for the brothers in the band for the additional stuff I do.

Leo and Raph kinda automatically fit as Connor and Brennan for me. Hueso might be the art teacher? Either Draxum or Big Mamma would be the principal, but I’m def leaning towards it being Draxum. Casey is Barry. April might be Sera, or the producer, I’d definitely be leaning into the trans angle for April if she is the manager, and I’m basically sitting on it with Casey. I might go for the Leosagi and have Yuichi be Sera bc of another au I saw(which is what started this whole train of thought)

Five hundred and fifty-five days.

That's how long it took — from the day I left my comfortable London life to pursue my lifelong dreams in music to the day those dreams finally came true. From January 10, 2022, to July 19, 2023, a whole five hundred and fifty-five days have passed.

555. The number that represents change and transformation. How serendipitous. A fairytale.

But the journey here had been nothing but.

If I were to count how many days it has been since I've been trying to break into the music industry, I'd have my entire life in numbers. Because my dreams didn't start here in L.A. Nor did they start sometime during my teenage years, on a whim or on a dare. I've wanted this since I can remember. But every effort I'd made in London had been an agonizing uphill battle. With my parents' name, money, status and reputation attached to mine, I'd been surrounded by people who'd congratulate my parents for my job well done. Because that's how they saw it. That 'Haven was only able to sing at any given event because of her mother and father's pull, not at all because of her talent'.

Determined to show the world that I'm more than my last name, I took it upon myself to buy a one-way flight ticket from Heathrow to LAX with the money I'd saved up on my own. It was a whole new year. What better way to take the leap? Even my parents knew better than to discourage me, not when I have both my mind and my heart set on seeing my goals come to fruition. And although they weren't keen on seeing me leave, they sent their love and their support anyway, as long as I'm happy.

That was their one condition: Do what you need to do, as long as you're happy.

From the moment I set foot in Los Angeles, I put myself to work. Not one second was going to be wasted. After managing to find a tiny apartment, I worked on my demos every minute I could. And when I wasn't, I would scour the city for every record label just so I could personally send my work to their respective A&R teams. I'd even taken up jobs from any establishment that had anything to do with music just to put my foot in the door, from waitressing at clubs to writing songs at a record company. Every second of every minute of every day was poured into making my dreams come true. But eventually, I learned that passion and determination were simply not enough.

As days passed, so did the countless no's. Rejection after heartbreaking rejection had become a regular thing. And many days, I wanted to quit and go home. Eventually, I was running on fumes and dragging along a dream I wasn't sure I even deserved anymore.

Then came Brennan. Love of my life Brennan.

Not once had I factored him in any of my life plans, or any man for that matter. But he came into my life just when I needed him most. Not for his connections, no. But his belief. In my talent, my passion, my drive. The kind of encouragement I didn't even realise I needed. But I swear, his support has countered every nay-sayer I've ever met in my life.

I managed to hold on a little longer because of his support, and of course, that of my family back home. If it weren't for any of them, I'd have long given up, defeated and lost. But I didn't. And because I didn't, I was there to take the one call I'd been waiting for my entire life, from a recording company who'd once rejected me no less. Apparently, there had been a new shift in management, and their new head of A&R had gotten their hands on a demo I sent not long after arriving in L.A., wanting to give me the chance I thought I'd never get.

555 days was how long it took. From when I closed my eyes to take the most momentous leap of my life to the day I finally signed my first ever music contract. It's been almost a week since, yet it still feels like a dream. Even more so as I stand here in the recording booth, seconds away from bringing my music to life.

But one thing's for sure — whether or not it is just a dream, I plan on riding this crazy ride with everything I've got, and never will I doubt the power of dreams.
