Mountain Miko on A03
Summary:
In a secluded mountain village run by a society of mysterious women, Kagome, a young initiate, embarks on a transformative journey under the mentorship of their highly esteemed miko, Kikyo
Prologue – A Dark Fairytale
In the beginning, within a realm where ancient magic held sway, there once lived a man renowned for his ability to weave spells that brought good fortune to those willing to pay. His performances were nothing short of captivating spectacles, drawing in many who gasped in the grandeur of his rituals. Over time, growing more and more powerful by the day, his glittering magical displays began to draw in the curiosity of wealthy patrons far and wide.
"How do you do it?"
"You need only to give voice to what you desire."
Over the years the man turned sorcerer grew proud and prouder still, having forgotten what humble beginnings he crawled out of. He wore his wealth on his body, he adorned his beard with sickly sweet smelling oils and lined his fingers with ostentatious rings. In the era of spell making, the Sorcerer had made this life by his own hand...a hand in possession of a certain Jewel. A small nothing looking bead that was easy to miss even though it hung in plain sight. It's presence barely felt, barely a whisper, only a quiet gnawing at the bottom of his being.
In the dark night, the heavy shadow of some blackguard, from some dying noble house, made its way to the Sorcerer with big news. A big problem that required a big idea. This truly fair and noble family was harboring a plot to unseat the current emperor and had come to him for help to remedy the issue.
"What you ask is treason."
"What I ask is to entertain possibilities."
Truth be told; if they had the coin then it did not matter what the request was. He would entertain their hypocrisies. They can keep their dull innocence, keep their hands clean, while he did the unseemly. Though it was dangerous to play with this sort of magic, it's practically what it was there for.
"What say you, Sorcerer?"
...it has to be you.. only you could do it.. wish maker ..wishmaker.. wish-
A sinister alliance was forged that night, and he sought to orchestrate their rise to power through sinister rites.
His displays of enchantment evolved into bloody ceremonies with costly offerings, ranging from the most humble of creatures to majestic beasts. First a sparrow, a snake, a cat, a wolf to lions, tigers, and- it wasn't enough! To ensure their success, the sorcerer needed more potent sources of power, and he turned to darker methods. He began raiding graveyards for human bones, believing that spirits of the deceased would grant him greater strength. However, he soon realized that live human sacrifices to the Jewel would yield even stronger results.
Of course!
Yes, there was a war.
There was an empty seat in an empty dank room.
Once the new emperor assumed that cold throne for his own, he called for the Sorcerer to come join him at his royal court and to squat on the lap of luxury. That's what those savage acts were for.. but that damn cursed gnawing hunger never left. It wasn't enough.
And then...Their paths crossed that fateful evening when he was summoned to perform before their Lord. This was it! Oh! His journey had led him to the fair maiden with black silk for hair. The Sorcerer's infatuation with the woman was relentless, an unquenchable burning within him. Her every word, her every glance, fueled this insatiable longing. He wanted her as his bride.
But alas she did not want him for her heart belonged to-
It did not matter. He would take her.
In his desperation to possess her he believed that the Jewel, his divine potent resource, could make her love him. The Jewel, fatter still, fed on his fixation. He hated her. He loved her. He hated her. He loved her. The Jewel had never tasted something so sickly sweet.
"You need only to give voice to what you desire."
He wished for the woman.
In a final, frenzied act, he sought to give the Jewel a tangible form, giving it arms and legs in which to carry out the deed. Not as some caricature but as something living, with blood and bones.
"..This flesh is your flesh, these hands your hands!"
At the altar, with great suffering, he relinquished what little was left of his human to the bloody pearl. This was the deep dark material in which miracles sprang forth. He would conjure heaven.. but in the morning there was nothing but the cold dank air, and ash. The fate of both he and the now missing maiden was shrouded in mystery. The ending to this story is always the same.
Now, the Jewel, revered and closely guarded, rests within the new emperor's grasp. It's true nature forgotten. Though the emperor may hold suspicions about the Sorcerer's demise, he chose to remain oblivious of the perils. The relic remained concealed, subject to constant study that often exacted a grim toll and a long list of names never to be spoken of. The Jewel passes from one ruler to the next, as an heirloom of both great power and who's hunger continues to shape the endless road of petty human conflict.
And we exist in its consequence.
Many generations pass and eventually the one named Midoriko is born.

I just watched The Love Witch for the first time and would love to know your opinion (if you have seen it)?
i have mixed feelings about the love witch tbh. on one hand, it’s visually stunning and i would love to see more movies embrace the style and production value of older cinema, especially these older horror movies that i love that are so atmospheric. it’s so whimsical and dreamlike
i also like MY interpretation of the movie, which is about elaine’s desire for agency and power to protect herself from men, but she tries to do so by appealing to male desires thinking that if she gives them what they want, they’ll give her what she wants, which is a fundamental misunderstanding of the exploitation of women under the patriarchy — you can’t gain your freedom from the patriarchy by submitting to it. she wants love because she wants control, and she conflates her hatred and bitterness with an excess of love because that’s the narrative that makes sense to her. but if you watch her interactions with any man in the movie, she really does fucking hate them. at the end, after her appeal to the male gaze fails to protect her from sexual violence, she realizes that manipulating male desire isn’t enough — her repressed desire to hurt the people who hurt her is finally expressed by direct violence. i find that to be a tentatively hopeful ending for her
however. i don’t necessarily think that is the “correct” interpretation lol (in terms of author’s intent) and the fact that i’m not sure if the filmmakers intended this story to be like a tradwife manifesto or if it’s being critical of that rhetoric is already a problem because that means the messaging is extremely muddled. i see people quote this movie completely uncritically, i think a lot of elaine’s idea that she can achieve agency by being the perfect traditional woman appeals to a lot of young women, it certainly is in line with the popular 2010s trope of female characters who can be feminine AND strong, she has eyeliner so sharp she can cut you with it and she’ll kill you with her high heels on and she’ll make men underestimate her by seducing them or acting dumb. which of course is a way to repackage the sexy male gaze token female character into an acceptably “feminist” character so we don’t question it anymore. that was peak Strong Female Character -ism and i think that’s widely regarded as a regressive trope now but this movie speaks to that logic, and now it speaks to the “coquette” trend as well which doesn’t even purport to be interested in female agency (not even “feminism,” just basic agency lol). anyway my least favorite criticism of satire is that it’s not clear enough that it’s satire because sometimes people are just being dumb when they say that, but in this case i really can’t tell which perspective the audience is intended to agree with and that’s a problem to me. idk if it’s even intended to be satirical at all lmao
the part of the movie that illustrates the tradwife-esque narrative for me is the character trish. she voices the perspective of female equality with men especially within a romantic relationship as a partnership, and not only is she shut down by elaine, but she’s framed as this naggy, jealous character who turns on elaine and is just as much a participant in elaine’s victimization as the men in her life. her relationship with her husband is actually insecure despite her insistence that they have mutual respect and her repressed desire to be the same type of woman as elaine is manifested as rage and violence towards her. they model two types of womanhood and we are not supposed to side with the model where women demand mutual respect, because the movie doesn’t believe that men are capable of that or that women actually desire that. it’s such a standard tradwife perspective that feminism is for ugly women who can’t be women the “right” way so they can’t be successful within the patriarchal status quo
and it’s such a bummer because i think the movie taps into such a real experience of rejection and powerlessness and being at the whims of shitty, deeply pathetic men. the movie has a sharp, derisive, sarcastic humor that i think goes under-appreciated, because it’s hard to tell what’s being said genuinely and what’s being said with a wink at the audience
all that is to say, i’ve watched the movie a couple times and i really enjoy what i got out of it but i don’t know if that says more about ME or the movie itself. upon first viewing i thought it was absolutely genius, i kind of wish i had preserved that experience by not reading what other people have said about it lol but i think it’s kind of a product of its time — we’re continuing to navigate gendered power dynamics and trying to figure out the best way to approach being a woman interacting with a male dominated world. i’m not convinced that this movie has it figured out but i want to be able to enjoy it for its merits and take what i want from the story
tl;dr: the way i interpret it, it’s one of my favorite movies. but idk if i’m interpreting it “right”
also: it reminds me of the haunting of hill house because of the main character’s sublimated loneliness, anger, and jealousy, the narrative doubling (elaine + trish are so theo + eleanor coded to me lol), and the 1960s aesthetic sensibilities

My review of Blood Over Bright Haven by M L Wang - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
20 out of 10 stars. It's one of the best books I've ever read and I think should be compulsory reading for every fantasy fan out there. Saying it's a dark academia is doing it so much injustice and trivializes how tragic, philosophical, multilayered and relevant this book is. BOBH explores such heavy themes from many unique view points, especially the MC’s!
Sciona can be so egotistical and arrogant and downright unlikeable at times, but she is a good person with good intentions and you end up rooting for her, and crying for her, and believing in her ideals until the very last page. The deuteragonist to her is Thomil, who is a "second-class" citizen (refugee) in the city of Tiran, and holds up a mirror to all her prejudices and ignorance. Sciona is blisteringly intelligent, and that ends up creating this gorgeous perspective of someone who has the earned ego from intelligence warring with a heart she didn't think she wanted to have. The backdrop is lush (I'll get to the fantastical elements in a second) with layers of institutional oppression that is very obvious to Thomil who is a direct victim of it, and is only half obvious to Sciona who has only had to deal with the misogyny aspect and not the systemic theologically driven racism. We are treated to her genuine curiosity, pursuit of truth, and her ego leading her to constantly unravel the things she didn't want to know, unlearn generations of indoctrination, and act on her intuition that what she's a part of is inherently rotten. Her character development is top notch, especially considering where she started as someone who “lacked empathy”.
I've never read a perspective like this - it's like reading Letty's POV in Babel if Letty was actually a good person lol with sprinklings of Robin? (I'm on the I hate Letty squad until I die). Sciona is both a victim and a perpetrator. A damsel and a demon (I'm not being pretentious that's actually one of the chapter titles kjsfghfskjhg). It makes for such an interesting read, sometimes exasperating, sometimes poetically tragic and hopeful and most of the time full of the joy and passion of discovery. Sciona believes at her core she is egotistical and while I do agree, I think her core is curiosity as her fatal flaw. She doesn't shy away from the truth, she invites debate, she loves being challenged and having the opportunity to defend herself but is also quick to embrace when she's wrong and will change her perspective. In that way, I felt really represented by her curiosity, and felt her rage whenever she was told its unwomanly to ask questions and look under rocks and be unapologetic in ENJOYING her work. Even the insinuation that she is just as selfish as the men for wanting a legacy was fascinating because while she is egotistical, Sciona wanting to leave a legacy behind in a society where women are not allowed to have any power or legacy is inherently different than the men around her.
The Thomil POV chapters are just incredible to read. Both of them together really represent that intersectionality between racial oppression and systemic patriarchy because while neither of them are wrong, Sciona enjoys the privilege of her race and therefore it makes her blind to the horrors that Thomil and the other Kwen face in the city. Watching her unlearn all that is fascinating because just like Thomil, it’s obvious to me as a reader why she’s wrong (being a WoC myself) but trying to explain it to someone you care about and know isn’t a bad person is a very uniquely infuriating experience to both be in and to witness. And the way the romance develops between them is so organic, realistic, subtle and fluttery - it actually does a really good job in highlighting the fragility of hope in such a rotten city, and therefore it’s importance.
Because the setting IS in academia where Sciona is doing research and Thomil is her assistant, it gets given "dark academia" as the genre but in reality it's absolutely riveting because it's full of theological, philosiphical, ethical and moral debates between Sciona and Thomil that flow so naturally and don't feel gimmicky or preachy. The worldbuilding is so lush and rich, the magic system is intricate, complex, and rule-based, and the lore is very well thought out where it actually feels like I'm reading about a civilisation in OUR world. The pacing is BLISTERING but it never once feels like it's too fast - Blood over Bright Haven is only 450 pages or so but it feels like I've just read an expansive trilogy which just makes ML Wang a genius.
I can't stop gushing about this book, this is my first MLW book (haven't read Sword of Kaigen yet) but I will be a lifelong fan of her. If I had to really explain the vibes of what this book is, it has the same feelings as The Hunchback of Notre Dame x Attack on Titan x Babel. It's a lot of tragedy, a lot of institutionalised secrecy and monstrosity, and a lot of religious philosophy, but at its core it's a story about love, hope, and the desire to leave a better and more honest world behind.

\A sprunki fan fiction, by ME!/
\(May the flowers BLOOM)/
*A owackx and vinera fan fic*
(This fan fiction contains: Mugging attempt, Slight angst, Some fluff, some mentions of hand holding, hand kissing, teasing towards the end and vinera being a flustered mess in general, lol)
(-*It was a warm, sunny day in sprunkly town, The morning birds were singing, everyone's mail was being delivered, Great air all around in general!*
*We pan our way over to vinera's house, she slowly wakes up from her long rest, She let's out a yawn, and stretches her arm's.*
Vinera: ... Man... Taking care of plants "really" does a number on me sometimes...
*She awkwardly says to herself...*
*She usually likes to buy plant seeds and trys to care of them, whether at day...or night...*
*Vinera gets out of her bed, and gets ready for the day, she doesn't really brush her "hair" because it's made out of vines, she brushes her teeth, then heads to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.*
*She just grabs a box of cereal, puts in some milk and heads to the couch, she eats some of it, but then... Her phone starts ringing, she jumps a bit and looks at the phone, she puts her bowl down to pick up the phone, to her surprise it was her friend pinki... She makes a serious expression, and answers it.*
Vinera: H-Hello? Pinki? Why'd you call this early in the morning??
*Vinera asks to pinki, confused*
Pinki: GURLLLL!!! Omg They literally have tote bags at this plant store!!! You should TOTS! come with me on a shopping trip!!!
*Pinki enthusiastically explains to vinera, pinki was always the type of person to get any/all of her friends to go or do any fun activities with her.*
Vinera: ... Wait... Do they really have those at that plant store?
*Vinera questions pinki*
Pinki: YESSS!!!
*Vinera stays silent for a moment... Then answers-*
Vinera: ... I'll be over there in ten seconds...
*Vinera then hangs up the phone, grabs her purse, and any important money she had and heads out the door to her local plant store.*
*After a bit of walking, vinera finally makes it to the local small plant store, were pinki was standing at, pinki sees vinera and waves at her enthusiastically, they both meet, and enter the planet store together.*
*They do a shopping montage or whatever, they have fun while talking with one another along the way.*
Vinera: Oh wow! They do have the tote bags here like you said!
*Vinera says as she finally finds where they have them.*
Pinki: Yesss!! EXACTLY WHAT I WAS SAYING!! we can just put our plant seeds into these bags, very easy salutation, no?
*Pinki giggles to herself, she and vinera where both having fun together.*
*Vinera smiles back at pinki, as they both continue walking on there little shopping adventure... Until vinera heard something from behind her, and turns her head around...*
*She didn't know a mysterious mugger was trying to rob her of her plant seeds.*
Mysterious mugger: OI BRUV!!! GIMME YO SEEDS!!!
*Both vinera, and pinki both jump, they were unaware that the mugger was gonna steal from them, the mugger had a British accent, and sounded very serious.*
Vinera: ... Y-... YOU'RE NOT GETTING ANY OF OUR SEEDS!!! YOU LEAVE US ALONE!!!
*Vinera shouts out of fear and shock*
Pinki: ... Y-Yeah!! Like what she said...!!!
*Pinki responds, now hiding behind vinera, for protection.*
*The mysterious mugger makes a very mad/serious expression on there face, and trys to lunge at the both of them, in a fit of rage.*
*The two girls scream in horror, and close there eyes... They both waited for them to get mugged... But there was no impact of the mugger lunging at them...*
*Vinera slowly opened her eyes and saw that the mugger got dragged back by another person...someone who looked familiar, he was threatening the mugger with loud words, which he had his fist over his head in his rage at the mugger.*
*He then looked back at the two women who the mugger was trying to attack... The two girls saw the both of them, and both ran as fast as they could out of the dangerous situation...*
*Both vinera and pinki both run out of the planet store, and both run all the way over to vinera's house, vinera and pinki both pant heavily, thank goodness they got of there in time.*
Vinera: ... Well... That certainly just happened... Never in my entire life have i experienced getting mugged...
Pinki: Y-Yeah... I'm sorry about that whole fiasco...
*Pinki apologies to vinera*
Vinera: Nah... It's fine as long as we're both ok, everything is good!
*Vinera smiles, she's happy though she and pinki had time to shop together "
Pinki: Oh! ... Yeah. Well I'm gonna go now! See you soon!
*pinki waves goodbye to vinera and walks off to her humble home, vinera waves back to pinki, as a goodbye and walks to the front door of her house with her tote bag full of plant seeds.*
*Vinera closes her door, and lays her back against the door, she throws her tote bag somewhere on the left side of the door, and covers her hand on her face, sweating some bullets on her forehead.*
*....Suddenly a loud knock comes from her door, she jumps out of shock, and bolts her head around to her door, she didn't know who it was, but was kind of curious... So she slightly opened the door...*
*To her surprise, she looked through the gap through the door to see, a rather large, tall figure... Her eyes looked up to see it was nun other then owackx himself.*
*Vineras eyes dilated a bit, then shook her head*
Vinera: ... AH! OWACKX!!! What are you doing here!?
*Vinera questions to him*
Owackx: ...I.. Uh... Wanted to come over... I-IF THAT'S FINE WITH YOU OF COURSE!!
*He awkwardly asks of her...He was always naturally like this, he's not very good at some social situations, but vinera helps him sometimes try and calm him down when she can.*
Vinera: ... Uh... Sure why not... I got nothing else to do now... So come on in...
*She opens the door and let's owackx in her house, they both settle on sitting on the couch, vinera sitting first, and owackx sitting himself second*
Vinera: ... Sooo... Why you wanted to come over?
*Vinera asks to owackx, genuinely curious on way he wanted to come over*
Owackx: ...Well... You know how you and a-another person where at the plant store... Right?
Vinera: ... Yeah?
*She says back while raising an eyebrow a bit*
Owackx: Well... I... I was... mmm.... I WAS THE ONE WHO SAVED YOU FROM THAT MUGGER!!!
*Owackx shouts in such bold and powerful words... Vinera looks at him in slight silence*
Vinera: .... Oh... Oh owackx...
*She starts to make a genuine, mournful smile and goes in for a hug, she let's out some crys a bit, she was so happy, yet was so scared of what happened today...*
*Owackx, jumped at the sudden hug she gave him... But his shocked almost cartoony expression turned into genuine concern..*
Owackx: ... H-Hey... -Vinera... It's ok... I took care of them... They won't hurt you or you're friend again...
*Owackx trys to do his best to comfort vinera... He trys to give her a light hug... Not too tight, but just enough to try and comfort her enough...*
*She's still crying, putting her face on owackx's shoulder... She could feel owackx's hug around her tiny figure... She felt it somewhat comforting in her moment of fragility.*
*Owackx trys to rub his hand in her hair... While giving her words of comfort for however long until she calms down... After awhile, she started to calm herself down... She was almost silent, still being in owackx's comforting hug.*
Owackx: ... You feeling any better now?
*Owackx asks, with rather such calmness In his voice... He doesn't do it often, but in situations like this, he genuinely wants to keep her safe and sound.*
*Vinera makes a sniffle out of her nose... And responses-*
Vinera: ... Yeah... I'm doing fine now..
*Owackx sighs in relief... He then brings his hand he was rubbing her hair with, and touches her face with his hand, to look at her straight into the eyes*
*She looked back at him, his hand on her face felt very comforting, she almost started blushing...*
Owackx: ... now aren't you a sight to behold... Y-Youre eyes are literally the most beautiful thing ever to exist...
*Owackx made a slight smile at her, still hugging her, but also rubbing his hand on her face*
*Vinera now felt her heart beat a bit fast now, She now started to feel her face get a bit flustered...*
Vinera: Oh... Well i... Hehhehe..
*She couldn't think of anything to say really, she really admired his thoughtful words.*
*Owackx slightly smirks, and moves his hand down her face, his hand now slowly tracing down to her hand, he brings up her hand, and gives it a light kiss on the palm of her hand.*
*Vinera was unbelievably speechless... Her face was now completely red... Him reaching his hand down to grab her hand, and to give it a light kiss... Was enough to make her REALLY flustered...*
Owackx: Mmm? You want more?
*He kind of hinted it like in a teasing way...*
Owackx: I'd be more then happy to see you happy...
*Owackx, smirked once again, and gave her hand more light kisses, his arm around her waste pulling her more into him.*
*Vinera, couldn't even speak, everything was happening so fast, her heart still kept beating for what she was feeling for him...*
*Owackx let out a tiny chuckle... He stopped kissing her hand, and moved his hand to her waist, and pulled her even more close to him, his tall, almost muscular figure looming over her, looking her in the face.*
Vinera: ... Hehe...
*She smirks a bit back at him...still couldn't say anything... But shes definitely feeling the love he was giving her.*
Owackx: Mmmm~ ... Such a pretty, beautiful face you have...
*He then leaned his head a bit closer to her ear, muttering such beautiful things to make her heart beat faster.*
Owackx: ... All i want is you... You know that...right~? I can t-tell you're heart is beating pretty fast...i could keep doing this...if you want, that is~
*His smirk still not leaving his face, kind of gave him a confidence boost.*
*Vinera was under a spell, from his voice alone, him wanting to be with her was what she wanted too, she never had experience being with someone who wants her to feel safe and comfortable.*
*Vinera trys to utter some words to make this situation better*
Vinera: ... Y-Yes... Please... Keep saying nice things to me...
*Owackx gave her a nod of approval, his little smirk still not leaving his face*
Owackx: ... If you insist... Let us get more comfortable then~?
*They both lay themselves down on the couch, and enjoyed there sweet time together.*

The Fall of the House of Usher (1.01 Reactions)
Starting this show because everything I’ve seen about Tamerlane Usher specifically convinced me that there was a new overworked cringefail girlflop out there for me to adopt like a feral, little kitten.
“If pain and suffering were like the kiss of Jesus, then he kissed the loving fuck out of my mother.” AKWJEJEJW
OH, the actor who plays teen Madeline was young Shirley in HOHH.
These poor kids are burying their mother in a wooden box. 😭 Also, Bruce Greenwood’s voice is so stately and complicated, churching and churning like gravel. His voiceover as he recites “For Annie” is perfect.
Lol, it’s not a Poe story if someone wasn’t buried alive.
The shadow of Eliza moving in the background behind Dupin aughdnehshs. The way the dialogue makes you pay attention to what’s behind him so you can’t miss that ghost.
“That day was the last day we were all in the same place.”
And then the text flashing two weeks later is effective too. Six people dead within two weeks.
I’m sorry. I can’t take madeline’s bangs seriously. QKQKWMDNWN what. why
obsessed with how hot all of the usher children are. I’m sure they’re all human cesspools and everything, but they’re sure serving cunt in the courtroom
really appreciate the gravitas carl lumbly is bringing to auggie—whether it’s his righteous rage in the trial or his various reactions to Roderick in the living room. In the latter especially, he gets to embody so many complicated emotions: his disgust at roderick, his horror at what happened to the usher family, his reluctant curiosity as roderick goes on and on…
“I don’t think it can be true. If it is true, it’s Perry.” AQokqqkoqsk. Henry Thomas is wonderful.
Oh, god yeah. Tamerlane Usher is gonna do it for me. Love when women are ambitious and horrible and definitely have intergenerational trauma that they repress under a paper thin veneer of being put together: “I don’t give a shit about the world. I care about what my dad thinks.”
“Fuck Blippi.”
T’Nia Miller. Audhehwngnrnwjjwjejw.
“We just have to keep it away from Perry or it’ll end up in some co-ed’s drink.” ALL of the siblings have bagged on Perry so far. This line is so eurgh, though. Says a lot about who Perry is before we meet him in earnest.
Usher being so casually queer is wonderful.
the sibling introductions are doing a nice job of shading their definitely fatal flaws, lol.
PLUTO!! love a good black cat
“Hannity knows which side his dick is buttered on. He’ll be friendly.” GOD WKWNENSNSKN
“I want you to start with Perry obviously, but I don’t think he’s clever enough to keep it off TikTok.” AAfjwkwoama
Kate Siegel can murder me. Love the white hair.
The difference between present day Madeline and Roderick and their teenage counterparts is stark. They were jaded, yes, but they weren’t cold and callous, neglectful and disdaining.
“Freddie, marrying this woman might be the one thing you didn’t fuck up.” MAN WOQMWNWNDJJSNSSKA
“Oh, for fuck’s sake, Freddie.”
Love the whole toxic family being together. <3
“Neutralized. Like dead.” WLQLQLQLQKDJNDNS. GOD
“I’ll have to sue the bloody puddle of gore in the designer shoes.” slay
“To the rest of you, happy hunting.” Fascinating and horrifying. The way the Ushers are so insular—they’re expected to defend the family, the company, with their lives, but Roderick also sees no problem with turning them against each other. Before they’re ever killed, they’re already cannibalizing themselves.
Roderick claims responsibility for all of the children’s deaths.
Carla Gugino is so hot aufhwikqlwkwkakwkw.
good on usher for playing with the incestuous vibes of the original story with Maddie and Rod. Fun and fucked up.
Madeline wearing sunglasses to the funeral is soooo Alqkqkwsmakma.
OH THE GHOSTS OF ALL SIX. SO FUCKED UP. AUOUGHDNDJS. AND THE LINE BEINg, “… the sweeping precipitancy of a fall from such a height.” YEAH
Lenore reaching out to place a hand on Roderick. 😭 also, bruce is so good in this. His agony as he looks upon all those condemning bodies and wounds is chilling
THAT FUCKING JESTER JUMPSCARE WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK. GOD
yeah okay. I’m into this show QKQMQKQKKSN

Watching the Disney version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame and for some reason I think that Sanji would feel identified and cry so hard with it?
Here's how I see it:
The main villain, Claude Frollo, is the father (figure) of the protagonist. He's a cruel and manipulative man who groomed Quasimodo by making him think that he was a monster and no one could ever love him. Frollo is also a bellicose man who uses his power to bring chaos and horror in the name of "goodness". He doesn't tolerate disobedience and would gladly burn entire cities to get what he wants.
The way Frollo can only see Quasimodo for his usefulness, like a weapon or a soldier.
THE FEAR TO BE PUNISHED. AUCH.
FOR FEELING.
Quasimodo taking to visual representation the feeling of having something wrong with you, of feeling unworthy of love or unlovable, of thinking you're defected while also wishing to escape your confinement.
I personally think Sanji frames his own life like a joke sometimes to deal with the trauma and the abuse of his past. It's fitting then, that the movie is framed in a carnival sense of irony.
I also think that there's an interesting parallel in terms of meta-textuality. The story within the story, the role of the storyteller, those are things you can find both in Sanji's past and in the movie. Sanji and Quasimodo being both popular figures within their own cultures...
Maybe it's something about a man who grew up thinking he was a monster and a mother that got sacrificed while she was trying to protect her son.
Something about the kindness of gargoyles reminding me of the Baratie?? The way they interact is very funny, idk. They're so silly and fight so much and worry and try sooo hard to push Quasimodo to live his life instead of just staying for his job. They want him to go out, to chase his dreams.
Quasimodo and Sanji taking the passive role out of misplaced guilt and sense of loyalty.
All of this completely ignoring the fact that the movie is set in France lol, but okay.
The songs would absolutely get Sanji. He'd deny everything, he'd get defensive, he would do anything to deflect the attention.
There's a whole conversation to be had about the way the Romani people are portrayed and the discrimination they suffer, but for now I'll just say that the strawhat crew would feel identified in them, for several reasons.
The unfairness of the system, the corruption and cruelty, the torture (!!!) and the war and the balance between Phoebus' righteousness and Claude Frollo's rotten heart— you know what I mean.
THE FESTIVAL. THE COURT OF MIRACLES. THE COMPARISON WITH THE WAY OF LIFE OF PIRATES AND THEIR JOY.
But this is about Sanji, right?
He'd fall immediately for Esmeralda. Which is expected. Her character is perfect to depict the relationship between Sanji and women. The edge of (over)sexualization around them mixed with the rejection Quasimodo feels by the way they mock him, mixed even more with the way he's absolutely starving for love and affection. He wants acceptance, kindness and physical intimacy.
Esmeralda really personifies it all. All Sanji wants and needs. She apologizes for her mistake and frees Quasimodo by comparing his situation to her people, the Romani. She fights for him and stands for him against the representative of justice in the city. Bold and powerful and so skilled in a fight. Insane as hell and sooooo beautiful.
She'll be worthy the raging Sanji would get for the way the people wasted food throwing it at Quasimodo.
(depending on who you ship with Sanji, there is a way to compare them to Esmeralda and Phoebus, that I can assure you).
(and depending on how you see Sanji when it comes to gender and sexuality, you can talk about the role of Catholicism and religious guilt and manipulation).
Wow. This post is... long.... very long... Oops.
This is slowly developing into an au in my head. I'll leave this here and let you guys think about the potential of it all.

Hiya, finally got around to reading your post on the horror influences of DFF (thank you) and because it added immensely to my to watch list, I was wondering if you had any recommendations / resources for my current side quest.
Last week I watched both 1000 years old and Red Wine in the Dark Night and came across two very different vampires neither of which has fangs. And while that might still be a coincidence (n=2 is not a good basis) it was enough to make me realise that I do close to nothing about Thailand (and related) vampire lore.
While it is a blessing that we are going to have five thai vampire BLs this year, in this case it is actually a curse because any combination of keywords I can think of leads me to 1000 images of Boun staring at me with red eyes. And in this ONE instance, this is actually a complaint.
So, rambles over: Do you have any recommendation for thai horror / supernatural stories that feature vampires / blood sucking ghosts demons or the like?
Hope you are having a good day and happy watching :-)
Tbh I don't know a ton of Thai vampire movies specifically. My knowledge of Thai cinema tends to skew action or horror and even that I'm still a newbie. What's more frustrating is a lot of older Thai films aren't available for streaming and you gotta pirate them - which hey, I'm no stranger to that life either I'm an anime fan lmao - though Netflix has started picking up more Thai imports recently. That's where I watched The Whole Truth, Girl From Nowhere, Trapped 13 (there's a documentary and a drama also fuck Elon Musk), and part of School Tales.
[Netflix is so fucking annoying they have some of the best catalog for international media around but they're so god damn greedy]
As far as I know in regards to like, are there even Thai vampires in mythology/folklore the closest thing I could find was the Krasue:
"A Krasue, sometimes called Pii Krasue, is a spirit that haunts most of Southeast Asia. [...] The Krasue is delightfully gory, consisting of a floating head with entrails and internal organs dangling from the neck. They usually manifest themselves as attractive young women with bloody hanging innards and float about accompanied by an eerie glow. Sometimes, they even have fangs like a vampire." (source)
So I think it's pretty safe to say that, uh, the vampires in upcoming Thai shows are not taking from Thai myth lol but probably Japanese and Korean media.
Japanese takes on vampires which were all the rage in the mid-00s: Blood The Last Vampire (2000), Vampire Knight (2008), Blood+ (2005), Hellsing (1997 - 2008), Blood C (2011), Blood Hound (2004), Trinity Blood (2005) I'm noticing a lot of "blood" used in these titles.
Not that vampires aren't still a sub-genre in Japan, like gosh Seraph of the End was huge in 2013 and was a part of the small re-boom of anime/manga during that time period after the bubble popped.
Korea's also done vampires there seems to have been a bit of a boom in the mid-00s (Vampire Idol 2011, Immortal Goddess 2016) and then again recently (Kissable Lips 2022, Bite Sisters 2021, Heartbeat 2023). From what little I've seen in Korean media - I haven't watched either of the mid-00s shows - vampires tend to be more romance fodder, and treated like any other fantasy creature rather than something scary or demonic.
Which falls in line with the trailer for 1000 Days - which I have also not watched so correct me if I'm wrong and it's actually scary as fuck lmao - while Japanese vampire media ranges from romantic but more gothic or outright just for horror and action.
In my experience horror films from Japan, Korea and Thailand don't usually have blood sucking ghosts or demons? Not saying there's none, but most of the films I've watched the ghosts weren't like, of the blood sucking variety. They tend to be connected to curses left behind because of some sort of wrong done to the spirit in their past life.
Take, White Melody of Death, as an example which is a Korean horror film about a Kpop girl group. The curse that murders it's way through the characters is attached to the spirit of a character who died.
I really recommend this video on White if only b/c I adore Yhara's videos:
youtube
Even in The Whole Truth the spirit is more of seeking vengeance than like, to eat people. The concept of "demons" is different in various Asian countries than in an American/Anglo-Saxon context because of the differences in religious, and cultural roots.
Again, totally not an expert regarding all this, and I'm putting the rest under a read more for length but gonna talk a bit more about Japanese, and Chinese folklore (with sources!) under the cut. And I DO list some recs for general horror stuff I like.
Take the concept of "demon" for example:
"Yokai is not simply the Japanese word for demon, as is sometimes believed. They are the embodiment of a moment: a feeling of dread and bewilderment, or awe and wonder over an extraordinary event; or a strange sound or peculiar scent that demands an explanation; an ineffable phenomenon explained only by a supernatural entity. Little wonder then that the Japanese characters for Yokai are 妖怪, which taken individually could mean strange or alluring mystery!" (source)
You can see this reflected in Japanese media like the super famous Inu-yasha: A Feudal Fairytale by Rumiko Takahashi (Inuyasha when directly translated into English means "dog demon"). Where, in the story, there's a mix of demons both human like, creature like, and wide as far as individual morality goes - one of the protagonists, Inuyasha is a half-demon mixed with human it's a whole subplot of his character.
I've found this is more typical in the Japanese media I've engaged with. Like in Japanese horror like Dark Waters (2002) or Ringu (1998) they don't refer to the "monster" as a "demon" it's typically referred to as a ghost or spirit.
You can also see this in Chinese media like Yin Yang Master Dream of Eternity - where the protagonist is also a half demon I'm beginning to see a pattern in the media I like lmao - which makes sense since parts of Japanese folklore/mythology was inspired by Chinese mythology:
"Here, in his third book, Konjaku Hyakki Shui (Supplement to The Hundred Demons from the Present and the Past), Sekien finds inspiration in Chinese mythology." (source)
I feel like this is a long winded way of saying, uh, no I don't know any Thai specific movies about vampires or blood sucking demons. It seems like a fairly new genre exploration from what I've researched so far.
Anyway I can happily share some of my favorite Korean, Japanese and Thai horror things tho, but I really recommend others search themselves and explore the genre. Horror is so vast and flexible as a genre so there's a lot I haven't watched or maybe don't even vibe with that you might!
Perfect Blue, 1997, directed by Satoshi Kon - if you liked Black Swan you'd probably like this film if not more so, it's animated but it's such an amazing psychological horror film there's a reason Satoshi Kon's work has been so influential on media globally.
Girl From Nowhere, 2018 - I talk this one up a lot but I only like season 1 which imo is stronger conceptually, that said, a lot of folks liked season two as well! It has major Twilight Zone vibes, but with a central protagonist who is also a literal force of nature (is Nanno a deity, spirit, demon? No one actually knows and the ambigity is delicious) both seasons are available on Netflix.
Ringu, 1998 - I feel like even if you're a casual horror fan or the like you know of The Ring which is a 2002 remake of this Japanese horror film. I think the 1998 version is better if only because my beloved Hiroyuki Sanada is in it, tho as far as American remakes of Japanese horror films go, The Ring isn't a terrible one (the sequel is tho imo).
Hellsing Ultimate, 2006 - So there's an anime for Hellsing from 2002 that's okay, Hellsing Ultimate is a direct adaption of the manga and it's better. I recommend either reading the manga - the art is FANTASTIC - or watching Ultimate. Out of all three I prefer the manga if only because the art is so good, but if you want Dracula eating and fighting Nazis this is the story for you.
Vampire Princess Miyu, 1997 - this is partly nostalgia but the series is so beautifully animated and it's such a classic. The OVAs will probably be hard to find but if you can and you want some classic Japanese vampire stuff I really liked this back in my youth~~
God Child/Earl of Cain, 2005 - so this is a manga, and it's more Gothic horror than straight horror, but I'm adding it because Kaori Yuki's art is amazing, it's a very subtexually queer series, and it's very Sherlock Holmes meets Shirley Jackson in terms of story.
Train to Busan, 2016 - I am a HUGE zombie film fan love me some zombies and Train to Busan is in my top 3 easy. It's top down one of the best zombie films and the only one that tops it for me is the original Night of the Living Dead. The film has the tag team of Don Lee and Gong Yoo like are you kidding me?
I Saw The Devil, 2010 - This one is A Lot, but it stars Lee Byung-hun in one of his better roles and if you don't trust me watch Kennie JD's video on it.
The Guest, 2018 - This show was such an interesting mix of exorcism and shamanism. The scares were legit SCARY and the entire show was so unnerving, if you can handle slow burns and a good character driven ghost story I really liked this one.
#Alive, 2020 - Okay this feels like cheating cause it's not actually that scary like, at all lol at least not to me, but it's got zombies and the incredible Yoo Ah-In (there's also an American version with Tyler Posey that is unfortunately very bad).
Kingdom, 2018 - I am truly basic but it's SUCH a good zombie show!!! The thrills are amazing, and it had me and my Ma on the edge of our seats. It's not really scary to me, but like its a ymmv (zombies in general don't scare me lol they're just fun).
That's all I can think of right now, I know there's more in my head but I can't remember of them all lol and others that I've watched that I wouldn't really recommend - High School of the Dead, for example, is famous for it's "Matrix boobs" scene which is hilarious but not great cinema lmao - so I left a lot of stuff I know out.
This got long, sorry dude!

hey, a thing, i love a thing, thanks @dafuq-lyrehc, i love doing things
last song/album:
für immer frühling - akustik version by soffie this place will become your tomb - sleep token
but also i made a playlist on spotify that i've been slowly adding songs to that's all women softly singing about being angry that's called 'and a rage, simmering' and it's only four songs long right now but it's scratching an itch for me
favorite color:
like a forest green. a hunter green. my comforter is a hunter green and it really does it for me
spicy, sweet, or savory:
mmm, probably savory. or like sour-savory, like the tom yum soup i had last night for dinner. like a good kosher dill pickle. maybe a little spicy
last tv show:
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, does dimension 20 count because if dimension 20 counts, then either fantasy high: junior year or the unsleeping city 2. if that doesn't count, idk because i'm not out here watching tv that often. maybe letterkenny because that's a comfort show lmao or drunk history because that's also a comfort show lmao. or, i did just watch the most recent episode of mystery files from watcher, does that count as a tv show?
last film
the last movie i watched for me was the fear street trilogy last year lmao. the last movie i played in my classroom was the grinch (2018) which is coincidentally the last film i saw in theaters because i actually hate going to the theater. i really don't watch movies lmao. i'm wayyyyyy more likely to watch ending explained videos for horror movies i'm never going to watch
last thing i googled:
"time change 2024" uh because thinking about the time change makes my head want to explode. google tried to be helpful but my brain can't math the math so i had to ask my friends about it instead of looking at google and boy was it a trial but we eventually got there, kind of
relationship status:
single, head of household; uninterested in dating/being in a relationship
current obsession:
i hate to break this to you guys but i'm two hours and ten minutes into two hour and half hour deep dive video (part one) of teen wolf from a person whose opinions on teen wolf i do not agree with even if i, an intellectual who has written 33 fics in the teen wolf fandom, know that it's objectively not a great show lol so i guess it's that because it kind of makes me want to watch teen wolf again
or maybe sleep token is my obsession since the fic is nearing almost 50k! that's wild to me tbh. i take it back my obsession is building out the lore on this fic lol. i mean i have a draft with all my commentary on the fic lined up for when the fic finishes so i can share it with you all which is wild and maybe more indicative of an obsession lol
uh @branches-in-a-flood @shatterthefragments @vamprlestat @unfoldingsky uhh if you wanna, no pressure

Close Reading - Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land
MARINA's Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land continues on an empowering route for her of making the music she wants to make. After three albums aimed, to varying degrees, at securing traditional fame and success, ADIAML is a continuation of her rebirth, where she dropped "and the Diamonds" and decided that this work was for her.
Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land
This is such a powerful way to open the album. To me, it planted really powerful seeds to center that I am the product of sooooo much evolution and in the process me, and those around me, stand at the apex of human capacity and ability. It simultaneously acknowledges the power of the present while also paying homage to the work and ambition of the past. Furthermore, it alludes to lost wisdom from ancient eras that it is incumbent upon us to return to.
You don't have to be like everybody else You don't have to fit into the norm You are not here to conform I am here to take a look inside myself Recognize that I could be the eye, the eye of the storm I am not my body, not my mind or my brain (ha) Not my thoughts or feelings, I am not my DNA I am the observer, I'm a witness of life I live in the space between the stars and the sky
The emphasis on breaking from conformity within it all also gets at a very important idea: enlightenment cannot be found on the beaten path. It requires self-reflection and an awareness of/deviation from patterns.
Venus Fly Trap
Venus Fly Trap is her reminder to us that she could be making more commercially popular music, easily. Electra Heart was majorly successful and she could've gone down that road. Big pop producers were fucking with her. But she tells us she says!!!
Don't underestimate me 'Cause one day you're gonna see you're in a losing battle Babe, you'll never stop me being me I got the beauty, got the brains Got the power, hold the reins I should be motherfuckin' crazy Nothing in this world could change me
It continues on this path of emphasizing "I am not here to be commercially popular!!! I am going to stay here and do my own fuckin thing and if y'all come great but if not I really don't care lol I already gamed this shit and got enough money to live the rest of my life just fine."
Man's World
Man's World, the lead single. Sets the tone for the broader spirit of the album: analyzing the structures that have restricted our thinking and calling them out. It's accessible: we all know the patriarchy is fucked up, we all (as MARINA listeners) also know that climate change is a problem.
It's also optimistic while being delightfully ominous.
Spring appears when the time is right Women are violets coming to light Don't underestimate the making of life The planet has a funny way of stopping a fight
This life can be disorienting, but playing on spiritual principles of balance she provides an understandably anxious audience solace and empowerment.
Purge the Poison
Right out the gate she's talking about witchcraft, finding empowerment in her ability to make an impact, and analyzing how we have created so much of the damage around us. She is also saying, quite candidly, that there's a lot of toxic institutions in our way but that has always been the case. However, she also reminds us of the work we've successfully done to fight these instutitions.
2007 when size zero was the rage Britney shaved her head and All we did was call her crazed Harvey Weinstein, gone to jail Me Too went on to unveil Truth and all its glory The ending of a story It's a new world order, everything just falls away Our life as we knew it now belongs to yesterday Inside all the love and hate we can now regenerate Stopped how we'd been living every single day
The appeal to 2007 and all of its horrors is used in a peculiar way as a comfort. Like, look how far we've come in a little over a decade. Look how powerful we are at creating a just world. Change is coming!!!
Highly Emotional People
Highly. Emotional. People. This is the break. The first three songs are so empowering about change, but this is where she strips down and acknowledges how overwhelming she finds this world.
She takes the universe's eye here:
The universe hangs like a necklace from God Jewels suspended in the cosmos And it makes me believe This is how we're meant to be 'Cause we're just highly emotional people And you don't need to hide Sometimes it's hard to tell me how you feel I never see you cry
She flips the messaging on its head. After talking all her shit, rightfully so, about how impactful humans can be, she goes back and acknowledges how daunting it is for us to feel small. She tells us it's okay to feel small. She creates safety.
She also flips Man's World on its head: the unenlightened will be like blah blah she's a misogynist blah blah. But she candidly calls out the male suicide rate and unpacks how men are really the first victims of toxic masculinity.
New America
Admittedly my least favorite. Idk why it did feel corny to me when it came out and in retrospect I do think she made some points but it's also just like soooo on the nose and i think she could stand to be a bit more abstract here.
With that said I mean she didn't lie in a lot of it. I think this is one of the instances where i do disagree with her cuz she talks her shit about GMOs and its like idk girl that's rlly helped us fight food scarcity. But like we're allowed to disagree!
And I don't hate the song rlly. I mean I think there's something powerful to the idea of an American reckoning and a blatant call out of American hypocrisy. I just also think her fanbase already kind of knows this tea so it's one of those things where it's like "I mean yeah true but you're not really inspiring me here....."
But you know what a lot of them prob found validation and further explication of what they knew in this song so let's celebrate that!!!
Pandora's Box
Part two of the album. Heartbreak songs. A friend once complained about this to me, they were like she was really cooking with broader social commentary and now here she goes talking her shit about her ex boyfriend and it feels petty.
But like, this is really just a switch from the macro to the micro. Our relationships teach us so much about ourselves and how the world should work vs. does work.
In this specific case, it's her admission of her partner's adultery. And an acknowledgement of how, for someone with her mind, this was earth shattering in terms of maintaining her trust with someone who she had let in in the most intimate ways. It's about heartbreak and betrayal when you are a highly emotional person. It also alludes to the dangers of trying to heal others to the point where you sacrifice your own well-being. You have to make sure your cup is full first and others get the overflow!!!
I Love You, But I Love Me More
She alluded to how her partner "almost turned her psycho," and this is the response to that. When Marina gets upset, she leans into this ominous character. A character who draws boundaries through appealing to her ego/self-love.
It's also a rejection of the toxic pattern she had found herself in. He failed her, and she wants to heal dude but refuses to choose healing dude over herself.
Flowers
As we know healing isn't linear!!! At this point she properly resolves to breakup with her boyfriend.
I think it made me stronger But I would rather not Betray myself, just to keep your love at any cost And it's most tempting to give in When you hear the firin' shots When you are steps from winning back All the happiness you lost, lost Lost, lost With every careless action you let me slip away If you just bought me flowers, maybe I would've stayed You didn't think I was serious, I guess you felt so safe If you just bought me flowers, maybe I would've stayed
This is her going back to big picture Marina; there has been a whole relationship here where dude had the opportunity to prove himself and he repeatedly failed. And she cultivated the shit out of this garden but it just didn't fucking work.
And yes! She really almost didn't turn away, but she reminded herself of this broader pattern and how much it hurt her and she walked away.
Oh and a final note, there is something sad to the fact that she wanted to be there for him and knew there were things that were fake about him but was invested nonetheless, and he self-sabotaged. RIP
Goodbye
The actual breakup song. it's cordial, it's grateful, it's gentle. It's sad, it's grieving. But it's also optimistic. It acknowledges where her faults allowed this dynamic to get as toxic as it did. At the center of it is her relationship with being a healer.
I've been a mother to everyone else To every motherfucker except myself And I don't even have any kids
She's putting herself first!!! Like it's that simple. She's drawing boundaries for her own protection.

omg so glad you thought the same about twv!! I just finished and so many different parts of the last episode made me so mad, idk if they're trying for a season 6 (even after saying this is the finale) but I'm not going to listen anymore. if you have recs for similar podcasts i would rly love them
lol I’m glad some people enjoyed my incandescent rage. Like. Woof.
I’m so sorry you had to sit through that finale. And baiting a new show just. Doesn’t do anything for me. There are so many ways TWV fell short and didn’t follow through that there is absolutely no way that I believe another show by the same writers will do any better. So handshake through the screen, Anon; I am sharing and understanding your problem.
As for recommendations, I like horror podcasts, but I usually like cosmic horror and folk horror best—which is a slightly different flavor of horror usually? Also a lot of the horror that I like is in book form. But for podcast recs, You’ve probably heard all of the ones I like, but here are some ones that I did enjoy:
-The Silt Verses: folk horror. Only one season is currently out. You get a lot of religious trauma, evil capitalism, and mythology somewhere in between nielman and Old Gods of Appalachia. A lot of old gods and their religions have been banned by the government. Two disciples of one of these illegal gods, a river god, are traveling the river looking for evidence of their god’s miracles and existence. The god itself, like All of the gods in this world, is horrifying and requires human sacrifice, the two disciples are both serial killers; and the state-sanctioned gods and the police sent after these disciples are Even Worse.
-The Magnus Archives: Cosmic horror/horror tragedy. Everyone and their dog seems to have listened to this but yeah. I’ve listened to it at least 3 times through. Very very good at not answering every possible question but knowing what questions need answering and answering those. Favorite. Also, I enjoy that it is and was always intended to be a horror tragedy, but that one character became So Powerful in personality and beliefs that they changed the way the author wrote the end. And capitalism is evil.
-Old Gods of Appalachia: LOVE this one. Cosmic horror/folk horror anthology. Capitalism is Definitely Evil. Really, really good understanding of the people and culture it draws from—which makes it feel kind of like home. Lots of angry and powerful women, lots of nuance, fantastic environment, Yuri Lowenthal was there?
-Alice Isn’t Dead: Surreal horror/cosmic horror. Creepy Americana. A woman thinks her wife is dead and then starts to see her in the background on the news, and then becomes a truck driver for the company the wife worked for in order to search for her. A complete story with a beginning, middle, and end. Good at knowing which questions to answer. Capitalism is evil. Human beings are hard.
-Hello From the Hallowoods: This show is so /comforting/ despite the horrible things that happen in it that it’s almost strange to call it horror. But it still is. It’s just a very kind horror podcast. This is fantasy horror and cosmic horror. The world changed and began to end when a cosmic horror-type god (an Indescribable) who was then killed, introduced a black rain and black water that killed a lot of life and has altered the rest. The dead rarely stay dead; but they come back changed. There are Monsters in the poisoned world. And a lot of the monsters are just people. A lot of the human people are monsters in disguise. The generation that saw the black rain start is in late middle-age and the children were born into this world. There’s a Huge cast, pretty much every character is queer, pretty much every character is nuanced, and there’s So Much Religious Trauma. Also, capitalism is evil; most of North America (at LEAST) was run by a company whose goal is to have all humans become their ‘customers’ whose bodies are protected while their minds exist in a sort of shared-dream world that was heavily marketed even before the world ended. There’s a huge rotating cast (including undead romance, undead robots, demons trying to defect from Hell, a girl trying to rescue her disappeared girlfriend and her kidnapped-by-capitalism mom, an invisible man, a forest-based commune under attack by evolving frogs, and a sentient car). Everything is narrated by an Extremely Invested and extremely comforting Indescribable whose domain is Watching Everything.
-Welcome to Nightvale. Guys, the show has run longer than it should have. It ran into problems when it started to try to answer some of its many long-running questions that shouldn’t have been answered; and the answers were so much less compelling than the questions. It sort of ossified eventually. BUT. The first several years of this show? Were amazing. This is the Foundation of modern narrative podcasts, and the father of queer podcasts. It’s the reason this medium is so much more diverse than others. This is surreal horror/horror comedy. And the first several years give you an Incredible Environment, occasional real fear, and /The/ Narrator (you don’t GET Jon Sims or Nikigkik or even Doug Eiffel without Cecil Palmer! You just Don’t). I think everyone should listen to this show, at least all of the way through the Strex Corp arc. Capitalism is evil, community is everything.
Honorable Mentions go to:
-I am In Eskew: surreal horror/cosmic horror. Sometimes a person just ends up in this incredibly fucked-up city. This isn’t my favorite kind of horror. But. It was well-written, is a complete story, and it was interesting. It raised some questions that I thought were left too open-ended. But the main character’s arc was told so thoroughly and completely, that I’ll forgive it. The confusing and unfinished vibes are confused and unfinished and bigger-than-the-story like Neverwhere*. If Neverwhere was surreal horror about an environment/city/genius locus that wants to just completely break your mind. Capitalism is still evil.
-Wolf 359: Sci-fi horror/thriller. Starts off as an episodic sci-fi comedy with off notes. Becomes a horror-thriller. Not my favorite brand of horror; some of the plot gets a little convoluted for me; but I did really like the character work. Capitalism is still evil.
*Neverwhere is one of my favorite books ever though. So the vibe isn’t what I didn’t love. It’s just the genre
Anon, again, I’m very sorry; and I hope you find something much better to listen to next.
If anyone else has recs for Anon, please chime in!

Through Thick and Thin - A.S
Anakin Skywalker x Fem Reader
masterlist, requesting rules, guidelines, taglist
About: When Obi-Wan learns of Anakin's turn to the dark side, he goes to Y/N to try and find him; what he gets instead changes everything and Anakin gets the answers he's been waiting for.
A/N: this is my first time writing in months, please be kind! Need to get back to my flow lol
Word Count: 2057
Warnings: murder, death, blood, mention of parent loss.
"He killed younglings, Y/N!" Obi-Wan stressed, pacing around the room "Tell me where he is, I beg you."
You stared at your husbands Jedi Master, contemplating if you should tell him the truth - betraying your husband and revealing his whereabouts or to lie and protect him. After all, you knew what Obi-Wan was going to do.
You knew that Anakin was capable of taking lives, especially the lives of women and children after he murdered the Tusken Raiders - you weren't afraid of him when he confessed and you certainly didn't shame him for it; you could understand his anger, his hate, his need for revenge.
Anakin's back was facing you, he stared at the wall, hot tears streaming down his face.
"I killed them." he paused, catching his breath "I killed them all. They're dead, every single one of them."
Anakin slowly turned around to face you, his face stained with tears, his eyes glassy and red.
You stared at him, trying not to judge him for what he had done - knowing that if you did, you would be the biggest hypocrite known to man.
"And not just the men," Anakin inched closer to you, shaking his head "but the women and the children too."
You froze.
Women, like you.
Children, like the ones you adored at the Jedi Temple, children you dreamed of having with Anakin.
Part of you died hearing his confession, but you remembered how you felt when you were finally left alone in a room with your fathers killer. You too would've killed his wife and the other women and children in their village. You would wipe them all out.
"They're like animals, and I slaughtered them like animals." Anakin started to raise his voice, his pearly white teeth shining in the light "I hate them!"
Anakin dumped himself to the floor, bringing his knees to his chest, more tears falling from his eyes; you placed your hand against his face, wiping away his tears with your thumb.
"It's okay to feel angry, it's okay to hate them after what they did." You said softly, casting circles on his cheek with your thumb.
"I'm a Jedi," his eyes searched yours, his hand reaching for yours, holding it tightly "I know I'm better than this."
You sighed, kissing his hand softly "Don't let what you've done define you, Ani."
"How can I come back from this?" He asked in frustration "How can I move forward if Obi-Wan is holding me back!"
"You find a way," you encouraged him "even if it means going against him... and the council."
"You're going to kill him, aren't you?" You asked quietly.
Obi-Wan didn't answer, he swallowed hard and looked at the pale lilac carpet.
"Why do I get the feeling you're going to be the death of me?"
"Don't say that Master... You're the closest thing I have to a father... I love you. I don't want to cause you pain."
"He has slain younglings, Y/N! I saw his callousness with my own eyes!" Obi-Wan raised his voice, "Anakin has sided with Palpatine! He's the sith lord!"
You started to laugh, waving your hand.
'Of course, Obi-Wan and the council are pinning this on Palpatine, making him the bad guy.' you thought.
"It's funny," you speak up swinging your right leg over your left knee "you and the council painting Palpatine as evil."
The Jedi Master stared at you in horror and couldn't believe the words coming out of your mouth - his heart splitting into tiny fragments, the young girl he raised was defending the chosen one - the young boy who had grown up with bouts of pent up hate and anger, and turned to the dark side.
"Palpatine is the only person other than me who truly cares for Anakin, who never lectures him for his feelings, who never holds him back."
Obi-Wan felt sick.
"I don't know where he is," you lied "even if I did, I'm not telling you."
"Don't make this harder for me than it needs to be," Obi-Wan warned you, remembering the Jedi Code, pushing his memories with you and Anakin aside.
You didn't flinch, instead, you sat back down on the sofa, staring at the beautiful sparkling wedding ring on your finger.
"I don't want to go back," you sighed, dragging your feet through inches of deep, sparkling snow "I've missed being home."
Anakin nervously fidgeted with the ring box in his pocket, practising his words over and over and over, making sure he got them perfect, his body freezing, his hair full of snowflakes.
"I'm so thankful you came here with me, Ani." You smiled, "My dad would've loved you."
Realising that Anakin wasn't following you, you stopped in your tracks and turned around, finding your boyfriend down on one knee.
"Ani-"
"From the day we met, I have never been able to shake you from my mind and heart."
Your eyes filled with tears and your goggles started to steam up.
"I never got to ask for your father's blessing, but that won't stop me."
You focused on the ring, realising it was the same one that your father always showed you as a child, with his plan to give to you in hopes that you would pass it on to your children.
"Y/N, my love, will you marry me?"
You nodded your head, removing your glove, exposing your warm skin to the freezing air that instantly started to nip at your skin.
"Yes," you smiled, more tears falling from your eyes "I will marry you, Anakin."
"Your father would be ashamed of you, you're becoming the very thing he hated, you're sleeping with the enemy!"
The rage you once felt started to ignite deep inside you as Obi-Wan tried to sour one of the greatest moments of your life.
You stood up, and walked over to him, staring him down.
"You know better than to bring up my father, Obi-Wan."
Anakin tried to catch his breath, stumbling backwards in extreme pain, the sound of your screams ringing in his ears. You were hurt, probably dead with the amount of pain Anakin was experiencing.
His heart started pounding, his ears ringing, feeling sick to his stomach - you couldn't be... could you? who could've done this? why?
"I have these nightmares..." Anakin opened up to you "what I see, happens."
You stroked Anakin's head, your fingertips massaging his scalp, your lips brushing against his neck.
"I had them about my mother before she died, I wasn't strong enough to save her."
You stopped massaging his scalp, and pulled away, looking into his blue eyes - full of tears that pooled up over his waterline.
"You are strong and you get even stronger the more you learn and experience," you paused "I was strong - not strong enough to save my dad, but now I probably would've had a better chance of doing so. We move forward."
Your fiance nodded his head, pursing his lips and kissing you softly, still emotional when he pulled away from the kiss.
"I don't want to dream of you like that- I don't want the nightmares - I can't... I can't lose you..."
You shook your head, cupping Anakin's face in your hands "You won't lose me, Ani."
Anakin didn't know but he would soon find out, killing the last of the separatist leaders on Mustafar, he boarded his ETA-2 Jedi Starfighter and set off in a hurry; desperate to find you.
You were in utter shock.
Your hands trembling, your forehead burning, the room closing in on you yet expanding at the same time and your throat like sandpaper from your constant screaming.
It all happened so fast - Obi-Wan striking for you, your leg being severed off faster than you could realise until you fell down and all you could feel was agonising pain, and the smell of burning flesh filling the room, the blood boiling in your veins.
You sat on the floor, your back propped up against the back of the sofa, dragging yourself across the floor proved difficult since you stopped practising your upper body workouts.
Looking across the room, your eyes landed on Obi-Wan, no longer breathing - how you did it? you didn't know - you managed to take control, more power than you ever had in your life, your fury spitting inside of you begging for release.
Do you feel guilty? Now that you think about it, no.
Obi-Wan attempted to end your life and he would take Anakin's life too.
Bringing the back of your hand up to your forehead, you wiped away the beads of sweat, your chest rising and falling.
Anakin jumped out of his Starfighter, his hood shielding his face, his long strides bringing him closer and closer to you, his eyes no longer a beautiful shade of blue, but like the two suns on Tatooine during sunset.
She can't be. Y/N can't be dead. Not now. Not ever.
Getting closer and closer, Anakin could sense death, pain, and suffering.
The door swung open as Anakin stormed in, searching for you frantically until his eyes landed on your amputated leg in the middle of the room, his face drained of all its colour.
Your screams came back to him, the searing sound of Obi-Wan's lightsaber severing your leg, the loud thud as you fell to the floor and then the walls shaking, everything shaking, your yells, Obi-Wan's voice breaking before his body dropped lifelessly to the floor.
Anakin glanced over to his Jedi Masters lifeless body and stared, his eyes burning holes into Obi-Wans back, wanting nothing more than to revive him just so he could have the pleasure of murdering him for what he had done to you.
You peeked your head out from behind the sofa, "Ani," you winced, "I'm back here."
Anakin rushed to your side, his eyes pouring with tears as he searched your face and body for more injuries; the sight of your wound hurt him deeply.
How could Obi-Wan do this to you? How could anyone do such a thing to the chosen one's wife?
"Are you-are you-"
"Ani," you tried to calm him down breathlessly "just my leg, nothing-nothing else."
Anakin scooped you into his arms as gently as he could, you held onto him for support, moving one of your arms around his neck, your tear-stained face hiding in his chest, his heartbeat thumping against your ear comforting you.
"I thought you were dead," Anakin croaked, carrying you away, his robes hiding you in his arms.
"Obi-Wan came to me, he needed to know where you were so he could kill you," you admitted, "he told me that you killed younglings."
Anakin slowed down, you pulled your head out of his chest and looked into his eyes.
"Did you believe him?" Anakin asked, his tone harsh.
You paused for a moment, slightly afraid that Anakin might drop you.
"I know that you have killed children before," you replied quietly, "he told me that Palpatine is the sith lord... that you are his apprentice-"
"What do you think of Palpatine?" Anakin's eyes rummaged through yours.
She can't turn against me - she won't. I won't let her.
"I think that he's the only other person aside from me who has ever encouraged you to show your emotions, to use them to make you stronger."
Anakin's eyes fixed on your face like glue "what if he is the sith lord, and I have joined him? what would you think of me"
You sighed, closing your eyes, imagining the perfect life with your husband; you and him never in harms way, children of your own growing up without a clue of what it's like to lose a parent, to be a slave.
"I would encourage you to overthrow him, and together you and I can rule the galaxy,"
You opened your eyes, everything coming back to you, your father's death, how it felt to slaughter a whole family.
"make things the way we want them to be."
Anakin gripped onto you tightly, a prideful grin spreading across his face.
"Everyone turned against me but you." He said softly, kissing you.
"What if you hate what I become?" your boyfriend stressed, pacing up and down.
"I could never hate you, Anakin," you walked over to him, linking your arm with his metal one"I'll be with you through thick and thin."

What it’s like to have Moon in Libra and in the 7th House
I’ve been thinking about this lately...
My last serious relationship was last year.  However, a few months in, we’d gotten into a fight. My boyfriend at the time, we’ll call him “Tyler” (that’s not his real name) and I had had heated discussions about whether men should be the primary provider or if the woman should split things with him 50/50. I was really on guard about this issue because deep down I’d been envious of my friends who were married to men who took care of them, entirely. I mean... they had the option to work, but these men offered for them to not work and to “work if they wanted to.” I was jealous of this because I tend to attract men who want things to be 50/50, being that I’m in such a demanding career. I appear independent from the outside. But what I want more than anything is to attract someone who desires to take care of me. Yes, I work hard. Yes, I’m doing fine alone. But I don’t want to be alone. And I want someone to look after me. I want someone to take care of me. Like a Tuxedo Mask.
So being that I was already sensitive about the issue, one day I’m sitting at work complaining to him through text about how I didn’t like working at the office and am jealous of him working from home. So he sends me this job post listing that offers WFH, and he totally meant to help me by sending me this job post. But of course, I was LIVID because... why wouldn’t you offer for me to quit and take care of me? Why would you send me another job post to KEEP WORKING lol. So in my frustration with his mindset, I impulsively broke up with him. Totally on impulse...
Unfortunately, I broke up with him the month leading up to New Years. I had plans to go with my friends to Las Vegas for New Years. And I went without him, because we were broken up. Deep down, I was sad, and I regretted it. But when I got to Vegas, I regretted it SO MUCH MORE...
It was about 40 degrees Fahrenheit on New Years Eve night in Vegas. There was this one particular event my friends and I went to - it was a club. So I got all cute and sexy, wearing this outfit showing off a ton of skin, RIGHT? Super cute. I get there - and to my HORROR, I find out that it’s an outdoor event. The indoor option was either V.I.P. or required an outrageous $400 fee or something ludicrous like that. Wanna know something about me? I HATE THE COLD. No, like, it hurts me to be cold so badly that my brain literally stops working when I’m uncomfortably cold.
So I’m at this event - but it’s nearing midnight, and there’s no other clubs to go to, because the lines would’ve been too long at other clubs, and if my friends and I had left at that time, we would’ve missed the countdown. The whole point is to BE somewhere for the countdown. And we were already here. So I’m freezing my ass off, in a terrible mood... and I look around, and I start to see men with their women they came with, holding them, warming them up from the cold.
My ex and I had been texting back and forth... slowly entertaining the idea of getting back together. Here’s how I blew it :) I texted him that I was super super cold, and he had told me before that if he takes longer than 5 minutes to text back, then he has completed his thought and there are no more texts to follow. He ignores my text about it being cold and responds to some other text I sent. I wait 5 minutes. My hope was that he would say something like, “I wish I was there to warm you up.” Because honestly my text to him was my way of playing the damsel in distress - it was my way of flirting, it was a cry for help. But of course 5 minutes go by, and I notice that he says nothing about keeping me warm. So, of course, my emotions ruined everything again. In a rage, I send him a text saying something like “I’ll just find someone else to keep me warm then.” I know it was mean. I knew it was when I sent it to him. I knew it. I was pissed. I know... and I braced myself for his text back to be something negative because my text was super risky. But even though I braced myself, nothing could prepare me for his response and how much it shattered me.
His response was that because I would say or do something with the intent to hurt him, he thinks we should stop seeing each other. Yes, we had been broken up already, but we were texting back and forth as if we were going to get back together. But the tone of this text was somber. There was a sense of resolution to it. In retrospect... My emotions really do get the best of me, take over, and fuck things up. I wish he understood where I was coming from. I wish he could say to himself, “she’s just trying to make me jealous because she’s hurt. I should go comfort her.” But nope. I don’t get luck like that.
Side rant: Only water signs get understanding from people like that. I’m an Earth sign. I’m supposed to “do better” at all times. It’s not fair. I want to be able to express myself emotionally the way water signs do with their sarcasm and revenge, and people just automatically understand that it stems from hurt emotions. But not me. I don’t get that type of understanding. Earth signs are expected to be calm and collected and have it all under control at all times.
Back to the story. So I spend the rest of New Years crying in the freezing cold. I cried through the countdown. It was great...
But when I got back from the trip, we actually did get back together. And he told me that he had been planning on surprising me by driving to Vegas to be with me for New Years before I broke up with him. And this has been on my mind so much lately. If I had only restrained myself from my emotional impulse to break up, I would have been one of those women being hugged by their man in the cold. I would’ve been one of those women who had someone meaningful to kiss at midnight. Someone who was there to stay. Someone committed, someone who brought security.
But I realized... there’s something wrong with me to have craved having someone that desperately. Why can’t I just have fun on my own? Why can’t I just live in the moment - no matter where I am - not having a care in the world if I’m securely in a relationship, or hugged, held, provided warmth, and kissed at special moments like midnight on New Years Eve? The desperation, the absolute heartbreak of not having that special person. This is the curse of Moon in Libra. In the 7th house. It’s a double whammy.

hewwo :3 can I have michael (og), the ghostface duo, and bo with a shy chubby s/o pls? if u wanna write for it ofc
this is adorable... now I am the complete opposite of shy so if I missed the mark I’m sorry. Also added a few more slashers :) hope you enjoy🔪💕
MASTERLIST
SLASHERS WITH A SHY, CHUBBY S/O
INCLUDES, JASON, MICHAEL, BO, VINCENT, BILLY & STU
Tumblr media
JASON VOORHEES
When I say he adores you.. he FUCKING ADORES YOU
Honestly this is probably Jason’s perfect s/o ngl
You are so soft in your nature and your body so he just wants to hold you constantly, you have now become his backpack
Jason literally doesn’t care what you look like so your curves and little belly isn’t something he thinks about being insecurities
If you are insecure about parts of your body he will kiss and hold that part all the time, making sure you know he loves you and your body
Doesn’t matter what your weight is the man will pick you up with ease everyday
Jason loves LOVES your hips and that’s where his hands are always going to be
Your shy nature he finds very cute, it reminds him of himself especially when he was young and he wants to protect you at all costs
You never need to talk if you don’t want to, it’s all in the body language, Jason is mute so it doesn’t matter to him
Once when people rolled into camp you had been on a walk and ran into them. They tried to ask you questions about why you were there but you got too shy and just kind of ran away, you had been so used to not ever seeing people out here that it was extremely difficult to talk to anyone else but Jason. As you ran away you heard the teenage boys laugh and call you names
ooooh boy Jason heard that from the bushes and now you’ve made his s/o cry... Let’s just say he didn’t wait until it was dark and the scene was one of most gruesome he had ever produced
Tumblr media
MICHAEL MYERS
Much like Jason, Mikey doesn’t care about what you look like or what your nature is, he is just obsessed
This is a giant man with inhuman strength so lifting you is literally like picking up a toy
Your shy nature soothes him from his rage and you might even be able to tame the man a little, not a lot but a little
He is quiet so your quietness will never bug him, honestly Michael will probably prefer someone quiet over someone louder... as long as you scream in terror every once and while when he is chasing you or having sex then that’s fine by him
When you are out and about with Michael stalking you, if he hears anyone talking about your curves or shy character, welp they’re gonna die.. that’s it
Even if you’re at work and your boss gets mad when you don’t speak up or lead on a project, they're dead
You are perfect to him and anyone that doesn’t see that is in for a life ending experience
Michael is a leg man all the way and loves your butt and thighs specifically. Sorry but he will mark the soft skin of our inner thigh either by his mouth, hands or with his knife, you are his and that much is clear
*slaps your thighs* *thighs giggle* *Michael smirks* he likes the giggle
When you’re falling asleep he loves to trace your stretch marks with his fingers
Tumblr media
BO SINCLAIR
Now now now, we all know Bo is the most cocky and superficial man ever, so when you walk into Ambrose he is floored at your different demeanour and your curvy body
Fuck he loves it... you’re so different from all the girls before
Honestly you relax him and when Bo rages things can get very ugly but once he sees you, your gentle smile and worry in your soft eyes, he melts
If you thought he was handsy with other women, boy you better sit down for this one... CONSTANTLY wandering hands from your thighs to hips to boobs to arms, man is everywhere
Bo just wants to always explore your body like a wonder because he has only had stick-thin women before. Your body is his playground
Finding your shy nature adorable he is also going to tease you about it, since he is your exact opposite
If it really bothers you, you are going to have to tell him and probably break down crying before he stops mentioning your shyness... Bo is just a chronic asshole
Trophy wall photos and belts are gone immediately if he notices you’re insecure about the women he has kept before
When people come into Ambrose and the one time you try to help lure people in, you got too nervous to speak and almost made a fool of yourself until Bo jumped in, talking about various things in the town and snaking his arm around your waist allowing you to snuggle into his clothes, hiding from the “tourists”
Bo more often than not will have you just stay in the house while he lures people in
Tumblr media
VINCENT SINCLAIR
When you stroll into Ambrose man goes wild when he first sees you *whispers to Bo* they’re mine
Like a lot of the other slashers, Vincent doesn’t care what you look like he just adores you in every way
We all know from the movie this boy has power, so don’t ever worry about him not being able to lift you, he just does it with ease, and all the time
Vincent has seen and “worked” with many different body shapes but there is just something about yours he cannot stop thinking about
He will make sculptures, candles and paintings of your body shape, every curve and stretch mark is art to him
Like Jason, if you’re insecure about a certain thing in your body the man will make it his favourite, could be by always holding it or drawing it. You are his most brilliant piece of art and Vincent is going to show you
Since the guy can’t or doesn’t talk you guys are going to have your own little language, from body language to signing
He will pick up on your subtleties. If you’re nervous and rubbing your palms man is going to notice. If you are feeling very shy and hanging your head Vincent is going to pick you up and bring you downstairs to the place where it is just the two of you
Your shy nature resembles his in a lot of ways, so you two just get each other
Bo might push you to be out and about when he is luring people in to make it seem more realistic, but if you don’t want to or are just to shy, Vinny is going to fight Bo on that, and fight him hard... never mess with his s/o
Tumblr media
BILLY AND STU
They literally cannot get enough of you... talk about handsy my lord
They’re both so outgoing that sometimes it is hard for them to understand you, Billy is defiantly better at getting you but you might have to speak up to get them to notice you
With that being said, they will bring out your wild/louder side
Honestly their favourite thing is at the end of the night, watching a horror movie with you and cuddling.. you’re just so soft
Stu loves your thighs with a passion, he always has to have a hand on them, and be grabbing them and pulling them apart
Billy adores your ass and boobs, be careful of him smacking your ass all the time lol
Good thing they’re both so outgoing because you don’t even need to speak they will happily do it for you
Since these two are very social creatures you will bring them down a notch with that, they will be just happy to chill at home with you instead of partying
If they do manage to get you out with friends, Billy will be the one to notice if you’re getting shy or nervous and he will just wrap an arm around your waist, hold you and let his scent calm you down.. sorry but Stu is sort of oblivious

28 Days Later
Spooky season so i decided to re-watch this gem and
-The direction and the cinematography aged like fine wine. They are the ones that make this movie so unique in comparison to others Zombie movies.
And it's so amazing because sometimes it feels like a dream, something unconscious, something not real ( i mean, i know it's not real, it's a movie but still you guys get it right lol)
-The Rage Virus is scary as fuck. No, seriously. Maybe because of COVID and how it exploited and show us our vulnerability in situations like this, but it's just so damn scary, a disease like that would be the end of humanity, no joke.
Damn that makes me scared. Can you imagine? One drop of blood and a few seconds is what it takes for you to go down. And the infected are wild, they run, they swim (kind of, we saw that in the sequel) the are just absolute brutal... In a apocalypse like that, rip me
-Those fucking soldiers bro. Listen they let Frank die on purpose.
They were all there but since their goal was to capture women so they could rape them, and i think they could deduced that Frank was Hannah's father, who for sure would protect his daughter and maybe make more conflict on the group and actually, maybe, change their minds about it...let's just said it wasn't for their best interest, Frank would live. So they just stay put and waited.
Because just think about it. Frank, Jim, Serena, Hannah and that one nice and actually decent soldier were 5 people. The group was like 10 or not even that so having 3 grown man against that mad idea was more dangerous to the assholes than just 2.
-The commander wanted Hannah. Their interactions, the 2 or 3 they had, just seems creepy. And he was the one to order them to put the dresses and the one the soldiers-probably following his orders - gave to Hannah was the one that make her look like a Disney princess. The dresses thing was for Hannah, i think he only order Serena to also put it because he didn't want to sound even more of a creepy.
-Speaking of Hannah, that scene with her hiding behind the mirror from an infected make me a lil I'm so fucking nervous even though I know wtf happened in this scene and i know she wont die moment. The upper body strength, the cold blood to stay like that "chill" when a infected full of rage is literally centimeters of you, i could never.
-I not even mad that they put badass Serena in a lady in distress situation by the end because Jim save her and she saved Jim, twice.
Serena 2 x Jim 1
- The soundtrack is all amazing and so fitting with the movie. In the Heartbeat has to be not only one of the best horror movie theme, but also one of the best movie theme regardless of genre

Okay my thoughts on jfo
Disclaimer that my analysis on game design is from a limited perspective as I really don’t play many open-world, role-playing, kind of games and this is really the first “Dark Souls-esque” game I’ve played. What I loved (other than most of it):
I know this has been said before but truly a spectacularly beautiful game. Like good graphics but also the art/design itself was gorgeous. The cinematography and lighting was incredible and it really added so much depth to the storyline and to the enjoyment in exploring. I hate the planet Zeffo for personal reasons (specifically those burrowing hog-things I’m forgetting what they’re called) but Zeffo to me was the most beautiful planet. Something so idyllic and serene about greenery in combination with the shiny blue-grey ice and stark rocky cliffs. Everyone who worked on the art and lighting and cinematography, and everyone who found ways to render and code this!!! In such detail without breaking the game or having any glitches!!! Truly everyone who worked on this deserve so much respect and admiration
My boy Cal! Love it when a jedi character is unequivocally kind and compassionate. Love it when they strive to be good and do good. Love it when their strength is in caring about other people and drawing people together because of that. Ezra and Cal my beloved <3.
Trilla and Cere and Merrin!!! Love the grief and complexity and heart in their stories! Trilla as the child betrayed and who grew up to become destroyer of everything she once loved. Cere who suffered a horror and failed her Padawan, growing with Cal to forgive herself and move forward. Merrin, the sole survivor of a massacre, stewing in her grief and rage for decades until an unlikely ally reached out and offered to be her friend and she chose that path to heal and grow instead of continuing to live in her past. God, the women in this game really did steal the show.
BD-1 <3 ofc. His mannerisms remind me of my kitten, difference being he is actually helps you, healing you and hacking into things for you while she bites. Love BD’s friendship with Cal too.
I like Greez too lol he’s nice he’s just. Tho feel like there’s not much to say compared to the others lol.
The themes of grief and of moving on. Star Wars at its worst struggles with how incredibly scarring the events of the prequels and Order 66 were. But when Star Wars gets it right god does it get it right. Love the hopeful theme of that, while you cannot ignore what you’ve lost, as it’ll always be a part of you, you must learn to stop living in the past. You must start moving forward, rebuild in any way you can. And also! To not fear failure, as it is essential part of life and is a necessary step in success.
Speaking of Order 66 I loved the Order 66 part in this game it was so heartbreaking!! I feel like in this day and age bringing up Order 66 in Star Wars media can sometimes feel like. Sadness bait if that makes sense. Like they know SW fans are gonna cry over order 66 scenes. But this did not feel like that at all. It was such a meaningful part (level???) and it was so scary playing as little underpowered Cal while the entire clone army was trying to kill you and your master. There was no health bar during this part but I feel like there should have been just to add to the feeling of vulnerability. Also love how it integrated all of the different skills you had learned through the game. When Jaro Tapal died and Anakin’s Betrayal played I cried. And THEN when you go back to the title screen after that and understand what it means aaaaah
LOVED how the gameplay played into these themes! Playing jfo was definitely frustrating to me, especially as I am not very familiar with this kind of game, but I came to realize that the struggle was *meant* to be part of the game experience. It’s okay to not get something on your first time! The point is to keep trying again and learn from your mistakes. I think many people had issues with the parkour in this game and how challenging it was at times but I think that was also a necessary part of the theme of struggle (tho I have one issue with it that I will get into later). Also love Cal’s power to read the past from objects and how you can essentially follow small stories from the past as you’re exploring with this power. It really does add into the weight of the past and also I think adds to the caring nature of Cal’s character.
I love the part when Cal breaks his lightsaber and he has to figure how to make do without it. First of all love when he has to run away from all the undead night sisters with basically no protection other than the force. I was stressed the whole way through but it was really so chaotic (affectionate). Ofc the storyline part of it was also amazing and made me cry again but also I think players up to this point have the tendency to rely too much on lightsaber mechanics and on Dathomir and Illum you were forced to use and get accommodated with other mechanics more especially using the force. Illum also was a nice moment of calm after the high stress Dathomir escape. And then ofc Cal’s moment of glory (really it’s *your* moment of glory) afterwards when he fixes his lightsaber and defeats all those storm troopers.
What I didn’t like/thought could be improved:
I don’t understand why the fighting tutorial in the train cart wasn’t…more tutorial-y? Like they kinda threw a bunch of stormtroopers at you and were like 'quick do all these things before the stormtroopers kill you' and you just had to figure it out. Like maybe I'm biased bc Ive never played combat of this style before but… Idk why they couldn't just remove the health bar for a bit until players figured out the mechanics. I think it would have been good also to have players fight one stormtrooper (maybe a more powerful one so it lasts longer) before they move onto multiple. What would have been helpful to me is if they had a one on one fight where you could try blocking a bunch of times, try parrying a bunch of times, trying evading a bunch of times until you figured it out, similar to the style of the later Jaro Tapal visions
I may be directionally challenged but I feel like navigating was often kind of frustrating and not in the good way. I would constantly take wrong turns and end up making 30 min detours. I sometimes navigating felt tedious and unnecessary and the map often felt difficult to read or make out.
The camera angle when you’re fighting is sometimes very weird. I’ve looked into this a bit and apparently it’s a bit of an issue with many Dark Souls-esque games but every once in a while if you were fighting someone in a more closed-space the camera would randomly veer off into some corner and you wouldn’t be able to see anything.
The puzzles are….ugh. In theory I would have loved the puzzles, as I would have loved something that was a break from the parkour and combat that was less about quick reaction times and more about taking a bit of time and thinking about a solution. However frankly the puzzle designs were awful. The degrees of freedom/what you could do or manipulate within a puzzle space were never clearly defined which makes puzzles more weird and confusing (in a bad way) than challenging and enjoyable. So many difficult puzzles were only difficult bc of how it required noticing some insignificant detail rather than intelligent design. And force pushing those damn spheres to their sockets was soooo tedious
While I liked the parkour, I do feel like the fact you couldn’t adjust the difficulty of the parkour made the game more inaccessible. The parkour relied on very very quick reaction times which could prove too difficult to someone with say, mobility issues.
Okay also I think the fixed save points were a necessary part of the gameplay but I hate how when you could stop playing were sooo dependent on them like. If I ever needed to stop the game suddenly my choices were to try to find another save point or lose all my progress. Felt like they could have had a word around for that.
Whyyyyy did they appropriate Amazigh attire for Merrin's clothing and then have her take off! the specifically Amazigh head piece!!! When she was no longer a villain!!! UGH orientalism is a stain on Star Wars and you can never seem to escape it
Anyways this is all of the big things I can remember for now but here are some details of the top of my head I thought were cool/ some other notes:
The fact that in the Dathomirian ruins when Cal was facing against force-vision Jaro Tapal, Cal turned off his lightsaber and Tapal’s saber stopped at the top of his head and how that mirrored Cere knighting Cal. Cere only knighted Cal later but that moment on Dathomir was when Cal became a knight in spirit. Dathomir was essentially his Jedi trials
When you were in that force vision to get the Holocron and you were in the dark so you had to illuminate the place with a lightsaber but when you did it was a red lightsaber and Cal had become an inquisitor. GOD that was good that was such a clever use of a pre-established mechanic for the purpose of story.
Cere using Trilla’s lightsaber in the final battle. It’s a metaphor for her accepting her past, it’s a metaphor for her regaining her confidence in herself as a Jedi (bc she trusts herself to stay in the light despite her use of a dark-side lightsaber). Cal earlier had felt Cere and Trilla’s overwhelming trauma surrounding this object and now here she is, bearing this same object as she fights for the future.
I like the fact that you gain the ability to force pull an enemy towards you and stab them that’s such a power trip
I like it. When Cal ride the dinosaur <3
The ninth sister is kinda hot even though she killed me a couple of times
Love how blunt Merrin is lol. She really is just figuring out how interact with people after she turns to your side like go queen explore the world around you
I could definitely see hints of kotor in this game which was interesting
I don’t think this would have improved the gameplay at all in fact it could have hindered it a bit but I think they should have given Cal a gun. I just think he should have one. Also some bombs. Give this man some explosives
Anyways my ranting is slowly turning incoherent and this is all I can remember. There’s definitely way more to talk about tho. All in all a lovely game that I really enjoyed despite being super stressed about combat (in storymode no less 😩).
