Severus Snape doesn't think Albus' plan to martyr Potter will work out and knows nothing of the secret setup to give Harry a chance to live through the killing curse a second time. He decides that what they really needed was to start hunting the Horcruxes years ago instead of waiting for children to do it for them. He sends back his private notes and everything needed to brew a potion to strip off the spells that are restricting his behavior. He expects that his younger self will receive the information in 1992 at best.

On the Summer Solstice, 1985, a listless Severus Snape is surprised by a generous and lucrative gift from his future self.

Truth be told... not many. I think Peter is a fascinating character but not one I spend a lot of time thinking about beyond his role in the canon, ergo it's hard for me to have headcanons about him. This is more of a meta post really, or at least a mix of meta & headcanons & general thoughts.

He always had a mean streak. I hate when he's portrayed in the fandom as someone who was super jolly good, a lovable bumbling idiot, or worse a clueless innocent little guy whom Voldemort just happened to bamboozle, or even worse a suave, smooth-talking ladies' man with even one (1) ounce of charisma. Much like Remus, he always feared his position inside their group, unlike Remus he really was the lowest in the pecking order. As such, he would always look for someone weaker than him to make up for it. This is very clear in SWM when he's described as laughing (roaring with laughter) and looking on with a look of avid anticipation and hungrily at Snape's humiliation and sexual harassment by his two popular friends.

He isn't academically brilliant, but that doesn't mean he's stupid. He was called dumb his whole life, by friends and foes alike... There is literally not a single character in the whole book series who doesn't talk to him condescendingly: Voldemort openly mocks him and shows him even less respect than he does to his fellow Death Eaters, Snape treats him like a servant, his own best friends call him dumb:

"How thick are you, Wormtail?" said James impatiently. "You run round with a werewolf once a month-" and "Put that away, will you?" said Sirius [...] "Before Wormtail wets himself from excitement". Wormtail turned slightly pink but James grinned.

And yet, he (1) does manage to become an Animagus, even though we can mostly ascribe this to James and Sirius' help; (2) blows up a street, killing twelve Muggles and framing Sirius for murder; (3) helps revive Voldemort at his weakest - which, I mean, Voldemort was definitely giving the orders and detailing how to make the potion etc, but this is an unusual level of competence, seeing what the standard for the Death Eaters in the second wizarding war is (DoM anyone? Twelve of Voldemort's best Death Eaters vs six Hogwarts fifth years? Pathetic display if you ask me)

Was definitely a bit of an errand boy for Sirius and James.

His best subject was Charms (12 Muggles, you guys) and his worst was Potions. My funny little headcanon is that he was so bad at it that Voldemort had a bad time trying to guide him in brewing that Rebirth Potion - the actual reason it took them a whole year.

Asked the Sorting Hat to be placed in Gryffindor. Peter Pettigrew is canonically a Hatstall between Gryffindor and Slytherin (source). My headcanon is that he asked the Sorting Hat to be placed in Gryffindor. Perhaps it was because the kind boy he had met on the train (Remus Lupin) had already been sorted into Gryffindor before him, or maybe it was because he was always attracted to greatness and Gryffindor is the House of valor after all.

He wasn't forced by Voldemort to give up the Potters' location or become a Death Eater. He went of his own accord. He started feeding Voldemort information a whole year before the Potters' death and he did so because Voldemort was winning the war. He had all but won. In my headcanons, 1979-1980 is his we are on the edge of a golden world moment. It all goes downhill from there. Peter was probably one of those people who fell inside Voldemort's web of charisma/intimidation. He was in equal parts scared and morbidly attracted, just like everyone else on that side.

I like the headcanon that Peter did most of the sketching on the Marauder's Map. It goes along well with my headcanon that he's a talented drawer and he made some mean caricatures of most students and faculty during his time at Hogwarts.

Why would the blacks stay at grimmauld place surrounded by muggles?

Everywhere is surrounded by Muggles.

Godric's Hollow, in the 1980's, is surrounded on all sides by a Muggle neighborhood (as Voldemort passes children trick or treating on his way to murder the Potters). The platform for the Hogwarts Express is in King's Cross, not in a magical train station. The Ministry is underground, beneath Muggle London, in a Muggle area. Diagon Alley is hidden behind a pub in Muggle London.

Hogwarts and Hogsmeade are notable for being in the middle of nowhere Scotland with no Muggle infrastructure surrounding them.

As huffy as the Black family would get, I think this is just a part of wizarding culture so baked in they don't even think about it: they're parasites to Muggle infrastructure. Everything they have is nestled between this or that Muggle thing and it doesn't bother them if they can hide it from Muggle interference.

I think it doesn't even occur to the Blacks that this is strange or that they could have an entirely magical city.

Prompt:

Tom Riddle was born in 1980. His mother lived long enough to name him, and he never knew his father. He grew up in the foster care system.

When Tom turned 11, he found out he was a wizard, and soon started his first year at Hogwarts.

His early school years were relatively uneventful. He worked hard to be the top of every class and to be looked well upon by all (which was difficult when the Headmaster himself seemed to have some problem with Tom), as well as spending what free time he had researching his family to learn who he was and where he came from...

And then he found the diary.

It was old, decades old, and blank for the most part, but what little writing there was was all in Tom’s own perfect penmanship. His own name was written in full in the front cover, and there were two pictures on the front page. One was a picture of a boy in his Hogwarts uniform, a clipping from the Prophet. Tom’s handwriting said ‘HIM’ across the top of the photo, and the boy’s name, Harry James Potter, was circled in the picture’s caption. Beneath the photo was a hand drawn picture of some sort of hourglass on a chain.

After a little research, Tom learned that in the 1940’s, a monster had been loose in the school, attacking muggleborns, one had even been killed. Potter was presumed guilty of the attacks as he disappeared the same day the girl was murdered in the bathroom. Only the schools at-the-time Transfiguration professor continued to proclaim his innocence.

Not long after this, Tom learns about time turners. Now he just needs to get his hands on one so he can go back, as he obviously did once before...

I’m like halfway through with my Marauders headcanon series, so here’s my version of Sirius Black's life.

Once again, this is partly inspired by gorgeous accounts like @halfblood-princes-crown, @moonlightdancer26, and @thecarnivorousmuffinmeta - thanks to you all for the inspiration!

PS: I think there are minor inconsistencies between my Marauders hcs, such as on what exact day a specific event happens, but that’s minor and is largely because I wrote those on separate occasions and in the middle of the night. Apologies in advance.

The Marauders’s Journey - Sirius

Full name: Sirius Orion Black

DOB: 03.11.1959

Born in: London, Grimmauld Place

Parents: Walburga & Orion Black

House: Gryffindor

In Hogwarts: 1971-1978

-he grows up with massive blood purists as parents

-had the pressure of being the oldest/heir on him and hates it like Bellatrix

-unlike her though, S rebels by not buying into the pureblood ideology

-he is on good terms with his younger brother and feels protective of him

-despite not believing in the Ideology, he does have internalised classicism

-he meets James on the H Express and likes him instantly (both are rich purebloods, both hate the Ideology)

-to him, Slytherin = bad, so when he sees Sev he takes an immediate dislike to him (Sev wishes to be in Slytherin and looks poor [internalised classicism])

-was terrified of being Sorted into Slytherin, but more than relieved to be in Gryffindor with J

-latches onto J as an escape from his awful family and because he actually likes him

-his internalised classicism makes him pick Sev as his punching bag

-likes Peter because he idolises him and J; Remus because he’s nice and helps with homework

-gets shite at home for being in Gryffindor and being friends with non-blood supremacists

-this contributes to his hatred and bullying of Sev

-R's frequent disappearances pique his interest

-when he finds out about 🐺, he is supportive but mainly sees it as a challenge and adventure (and "aren’t I such a good person for befriending an outcast")

-the longer S is in Gryffindor and has those Friends, the more shite he gets at home

-meanwhile, Regulus is now favoured as he’s in Slytherin and buys into blood purity

-all of this fosters his hatred of Sev

-he is the last person to become an animagus, which upsets him (he of course lets it out on Sev)

-he loves the adventures once a month, and focuses much more on that rather than Remus being in pain

-February 1976, he bullies Sev and when it does not have the desired effect, he tells Sev that if he wants to stop the bullying, he must touch the knot on the Whomping Willow and follow the tunnel

-he is not punished for this

-SWM

-summer 1976 he has another huge fight with his parents and for the first time they actually hit him across the face

-that is the final straw for him and he leaves and moves in with the Potters

-this fuels his hatred for Slytherin and everything Sev stands for, so S bullies him even more

-he becomes more and more aware of the war and wants to fight

-he slowly changes his mind about Lily and actually starts rooting for Jily

-tries his very best to get them together

-likes both Peter and Remus, but mainly sees them as charity friends

-moves into his own house after graduation (inherited from Alphard)

-starts auror training, but drops out after a few months to fully focus on the war

-is J's best man

-is overjoyed to be named Harry’s godfather

-R often goes on long solo missions around the time Peter starts leaking information, so S suspects R of being the spy

-S is made the Potters's Secret Keeper in 1980

-he goes on a few missions where he watches many people die

-is torn up because of suspecting R to be a spy

-in October 1981 he is on a mission with members of the Bones family (they die and S is gravely injured)

-he decides that him being SC is no longer safe (if something were to happen to him, the Secret would become weaker or at least he thinks so) and suggests P instead (since he mistrusts R who’s on another long Order mission)

thank you !! and yes, i agree. it’s been way too long since i’ve drawn her, and even longer since i drew her hogwarts era self. i like exploring her sense of style because i feel like all the characters deserve a much more defined sense of style than the gave gives them. case in point, tonks would highly like be punk (rebellious rule breaker in 1980’s england ?? hello ???) and ismelda would be goth (love of death, violence and history, she fits the vibes).

i try to give merula a mix of goth and punk. i feel like early merula is very goth, and as she grows older she becomes more and more punk. i’ve been mainly drawing her as punkgoth, i wanna try to switch to gothpunk with her, which you can see in the drawing. hopefully my intentions came thru in it !

♡ So the two of them met at Hogwarts back in the 1970's. Dulcinea was in the year below him and was in a different house so it was quite obvious that they couldn't spent much time together in classes :")

♡ The pair of them actually first properly spoke to each other at the library in school (Remus was in his second or third year, I think) and the two bonded quite well. Although Remus usually hung out with James, Sirius and Peter and they had fun playing pranks on each other, he also valued his time with Dulcinea as despite her being extremely different to the Marauders, the two had quite a lot of similarities. They used to read and help each other with their homework, and Dulcie was drawn to Remus because of how calm and gentle he was, she really liked that about him. ^-^

♡ Dulcie only found out that Remus was a werewolf after they left school. She sort of pieced it together by herself but since the whole wizarding war happened, she kinda got separated from Remus during that time. When they were at Hogwarts, Remus really did like Dulcie but didn't want to ask her out bc he didn't feel like he could risk being with someone bc of his condition. :"(

♡ Although sometime after Voldemort killed James and Lily, Dulcinea became a teacher at Hogwarts! I'm not entirely sure what she teaches, but I do have this idea that she could be some form of classroom assistant or even a guidance councellor of a sort, but I'm still undecided hehe! 😅

♡ But yeah, sometime in the 1980's, Remus finds Dulcie again. They reconcile after all that happened, and Remus reveals that he's still distraught after losing all his friends and not having a stable place to live, so Dulcie invites him to live with her near the woods! The two finally end up together and Dulcie puts her money from teaching towards making her house a home for the both of them! 💛

♡ During Prisoner of Azkaban, Remus applies for a job as the Dark Arts teacher, and the two of them are happy they could finally work together. ^-^

♡ I planned that they got married in the forest sometime around when the Order of the Phoenix takes place, but again idk 😅

Werewolf Questions

Hello hello!

I have recently become engrossed in the Marauders Era of Harry Potter fanfiction for the first time in over 5 years, and I need help (because I'm maybe trying to write fanfiction). So, in regards to Remus becoming a werewolf "on the full moon", I have questions that I am unsure about how to answer.

Also, I don't support TERFs!

This is longer than I thought so here's a scroll break :)

How accurate do you all usually go in this regard?

I know "accuracy" and specificity is generally to each author's desires, but like, I get stuck in the minutiae and would appreciate any and all help! I've been looking up when the full moon was during his years at Hogwarts (1971-8) and have been finding sources which actually give me the times, which I thought was great until I saw times like 14:20:45 or 06:03:58. I understand that, practically, the moon would be made "full" at any time of the day, but how would this impact werewolves, which leads into my next question(s).

2. How does the moon impact werewolves, and how many days are these transformations supposed to take effect? If the moon is full at midday, do werewolves still transform at night or would that be considered a "pass" month because the sun overpowers the moon (or whatever)?

Maybe this is the skeptic in me but I don't understand the practicality(?) of werewolf transformations. How does the moon force out the wolf? Or is it more like the sun keeps the wolf in? If it is the later, then how come werewolves don't become wolves every night except maybe solar eclipses?

In HP, werewolves become one because of a bite from a werewolf, but how does work? Is it supposed to be a magical effect (because I don't think it is because of the presence of non-magical werewolves)? And, if it were a magical effect, wouldn't that mean the possibility of disspelling that effect, similar to disspelling a jinx or hex? Is it supposed to be a physical effect, like AIDS/HIV? If so, what does that say about the magical community and their medical community? Are we supposed to believe that werewolves have been part of the magical history for centuries, and the medical community has not done shit about it until the early 1980s? I'm supposed to believe they have potions/elixirs that can regrow bones or potions that can literally transform your body into that of someone elses or potions that are quite literally liquid luck but they haven't helped werewolves stop unwanted shifts? Not one person?

3. Last question, I promise! What is considered the full moon for werewolves? The day the moon becomes full and only that day, or would it be the night closest to the time of the full moon? For example, if the full moon is at 06:03:58 on September 5th, does that mean the full moon would be the night of the 4th going into the 5th, the night of the 5th going into the 6th, or something else?

Anyway, how werewolves work is, I suppose, the question I'm really trying to find the answer to. Thank you to any and all that respond!

Actually quite a lot, which is different than most years. In no particular order:

2023 Confirmed

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2. I liked the original. It was simple but fun. I'm hoping they have evolved the formula a bit from that point.

Darkest Dungeon 2. I have a lot of issues with the game changing directions into an FTL-ish game. But it could be good, regardless of my feelings on the genre shift.

Starfield. Bethesda is still on my radar but they're no longer a "Must buy" company after Fallout 4 and Fallout76. The fact that they're STILL using the CreationEngine gives me worry, but I'm still waiting to see how it turns out.

Hogwarts Legacy. It's a immersive RPG with character customization. That's going to always catch my attention.

Redfall. Arcane disappointed me with Deathloop but they still have good will from Prey. If they can break the core "Xshock" gameplay they've reused for nearly all their games, I'll be interested.

Book of Hours. I really enjoyed the mythology set up in Cultist Simulator and I'm interested in any game that further explores it.

Suicide Squad. Rocksteady is a solid studio and I liked the Arkham Games, even Knight. So I'm willing to give them a shot in this.

Atomic Heart. New studio attempting the Xshock formula, so I'll be watching to see how it turns out. But I've heard this was a troubled production, so I dunno how it'll be as a final product.

Like a Dragon: Ishin. I'm a sucker for the Yakuza franchise.

System Shock. After so long, I'm just interested in how it'll be when it finally comes out.

Baldur's Gate 3. Someone gifted it to me back when it started Early Access, but I haven't tried it because I don't want to be spoiled. I've just toyed around with the character creation. Larian Studios is a studio I still have a lot of trust in.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. I have not seen either Avatar film. But from the start it seems like Cameron want to build a world and only crafted a story as an excuse. He should've just made a game like this instead to begin with.

Announced but TBD (so may not be in 2023)

Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days. Looks like This War of Mine but with zombies and a 1980's aesthetic.

Warhammer 40k: Roguetrader. Made by Owlcat and I liked their two Pathfinder games. A Warhammer CRPG? Sounds fun!

Hellboy: Web of the Wyrd. I love Hellboy. I just hope the game itself is good.

Frostpunk 2. I liked the original, will see what they do with the sequel.

Silksong. I only recently played Hollow Knight, but I enjoyed the experience enough to look forward to this.

Avowed. I really, really liked Deadfire and this game is set in the PoE world. The 'eh' feeling I got from Outer Worlds puts a damper on things, but I hope that maybe by returning to the PoE universe, there might be a return to form. Also, immersive RPG with character customization, so...

Hades 2. I LOVED Hades. More of it is going to appeal to me.

Judas. The creator of Bioshock comes back to make a brand new Xshock game? I wanna see if he innovates the formula he helped popularize or not.

Nightengale. I'm not huge into the 'survivor crafting' game but the aesthetics interest me.

Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty. Okay, not a game, but DLC. Cyberpunk hurt me, but I'm really, really hoping that this DLC is being made by CDPR with the idea that they need to step up their game.

Even with her roots Elvyra strays very far from her father. Elvyra may be abit cynical; having trouble trusting those around her; If her father was a monster what stops others? She is very cautious around new people. She avoids coming off as rude and tries her best to be kind. She keeps the secrets of other why keeping hers to herself. She gets along with many of her peers on a surface level but rarely calls any of them "Friends".

She gets bored easily so her biggest pass time is pulling pranks and causing mischiefs around Hogwarts. Casting jinx on them when no one is watching, making up rumors, turning spaghetti into worms, dungbombs, making shampoo smell like vomit, and leaving magic fire works in the bathrooms. She got her fair share of detention but most of the time she got away with all her pranks.

Elvyra was always very eager to talk and meet new people her age. She didn't have any chances when she was younger even with her adoptive parents. When she learns Harry knows parseltongue, she wanted to talk to him more about it. She is so curious about him after and actually offers to talk in parseltongue to each other like it was a secret language between the two of them.

Elvyra sympathizes alot with Harry; they were both orphans, affected by you-know-who, both are treated different once people know, and how they are treated by their parents. She offers to let Harry talk about his home life and how some people treat him different or weird.

During the TriWizard cup; she was jealous of Harry! She wanted to join but believed Harry didn't want to join or attest didn't put his name in the cup.

Elvyra has a big problem with authority; when Umbridge comes to Hogwarts it was the worst. She never understood why the other slytherins stood by her; Elvyra took her as a threat to her own self preservation. She joined Harry's army without question.

- She has a salamander that has transparent skin so everyone can see its bones. His name is slippy and he is also a trouble maker. - Slippy is NOT allowed at hogwarts but he smuggled in her trunk - Parseltongue - Elvyra and Harry have a very cute brother-sister like relationship (they are cousins) - Knows more Jinxs than Charms - Her relationship with her adoptive parents is not as bad as Harry but they are both very busy wizard and Is mostly her being left alone at home and to take care of herself. - Her adoptive parents are high end wizards that travel around very often.
