Doctor Strange 2 spoiler under the cut
I'm picturing a Doctor Strange meeting in this AU where the MCU Strange says that his reality number nameplate is wrong, and 616 Stephen just throws a cup of tea in his face or something. Like oh who told you that? Some rando on Earth-838 making shit up for their own personal filing system? Their math is wrong. Sit down and shut up, 199999.
So much happened in that movie, but that's the only moment when I had to actively remind myself that there were other people in the theater so I shouldn't shout at the screen 😂 But literally what is the point of opening up the multiverse and not just taking it as an opportunity to use a new number so you can do whatever you like?! Why try to override an established reality!? Annoying.

━━━✦❘༻PLOT༺❘✦━━━
The Multiverse does not suffer arrogance lightly.
When Doctor Stephen Strange fled through the Multiverse to escape the Scarlet Witch, he stumbled upon a horrifying truth. Landing in an ashen ruin of a universe, Stephen learned from his sinister counterpart that realities are colliding. And when this happens, one or both are destroyed.
Though he fought and defeated Sinister Strange, in the commotion of Dreamwalking, no one noticed when Sinister Strange escaped his dying universe and took Stephen's place in Earth-199999. Stephen, meanwhile, was left stranded in Sinister's decating world with nothing for company but his precious Darkhold.
Soon, even that companionship would be threatened. The Scarlet Witch, in an effort to right her wrongs, destroyed the Darkhold, using her power to extend the command across the Multiverse.
Seeing the Darkhold, his only possible hope of escape, start to disintegrate, Stephen sought to preserve the tome by absorbing it, fusing himself with the chaotic tome.
Empowered with the Darkhold, the now-corrupted Stephen manages to return to Earth-199999, confronting Sinister Strange. With his place restored in his reality, Stephen then faces the next great threat – every other universe, which he now knows has the potential to crash into his own reality and destroy it.
Stephen, deciding only he can protect reality and make the difficult decisions, resolves to destroy every other universe before they can annihilate his.

I'll find it in a minute but there's a post about how Miguel is very touchy when it comes to MCU Doctor Strange and Peter Parker ( in which Miguel references to being a 'little nerd' since Stephen's spell somehow had even erased the other Spider people's memory too it seems as I think even Miguel doesn't know the identity ) and I don't know if it's in the post itself mentioning it but here are thoughts about this.
Mostly because Peter in that world had father figures / mentors and actually had a better upbringing than most of the Spideys around him. And also has one that actually cared about him like a son at the end of NWH, Stephen, that even considered changing / breaking the multiverse for.
It's probably also why Miguel is so hard on Miles, because even though he doesn't have a wizard as an annoyed surrogate father, it's the support system, that even 2099 didn't have that much, which gets under Miguel's skin the most.
And of course that the 199999 team ( Wanda and Loki [ s ] included ) managed to created a lot of anomalies too. Can't deny that either when talking about this.
Although, I do think if he did spend time with Doctor Strange, Miguel probably wouldn't totally seethe every five seconds with annoyance because they are somewhat a little similar because of their speeches ( I could tell the film gave Miguel the 'it's their fate to die' and the chase scene thanks to NWH ) and the fate of the multiverse speech. If Stephen can change his ways, I think Miguel can too. Also, I want Miguel to meet America because yeah, that's another whole can of worms right there.

So what is the deal with Miles? Does he exist in the real Marvel universe comics, as Aaron's appearance in Homecoming implied, or is he in a separate universe from real Peter Parker, which Donald Glover's cameo in Across_ suggests? Like Spider-man and Ultimate Spider-man, that D'angelo never lived to find out, and I know because I looked it up after watching that episode?
Ok, fair warning, I'm about to spam the tags a little bit, because I got a flood of anon messages about Miles Morales and they're a bit all over the place (this one is perfectly reasonable) and got my back up in places so I'm not in a mood to just delete/block and move on.
Tumblr media
If you're asking about comics Miles Morales, his original universe was Earth 1610, which is Marvel's designation for the Ultimate Universe that was launched in 2000 and then was destroyed in 2015 as part of Hickman's Secret Wars event. (However, because comics Miles was pretty popular and Brian Michael Bendis was a bit of a superstar, comics Miles managed to survive the destruction of the multiverse and transitioned to Earth 616, which is the "prime" Marvel universe, the one that's been running since 1961.) So as far as comics Miles was concerned, he very much was existing in the "real Marvel universe comics."
Now, there are some significant differences between the comics version of 1610 and the movie version of 1610 - most significantly. comica Peter Parker was a teenager rather than a grown adult when he died passing on the mantle to Miles - but it's close enough and clearly intended to represent the 1610, so it's not worth getting persnickety about. If you really need clarity, the movie version is (sometimes) described as 1610b on the wikis. So technically movie Miles Morales is from Earth 1610b, which I kind of like because there's a nice parallel with Peter B. Parker coming from Earth 616b. (I'm going to avoid spoiling the reveal about Earth 42.)
Now, to answer "or is he in a separate universe from real Peter Parker" is a bit trickier, because it depends on whether you consider the MCU's Tom Holland to be the "real" Peter Parker, and then you have to answer the question what "real" means in the context of the multiverse. To paraphrase from the Mah Nishtanah, "how is this Peter Parker different from all other Peter Parkers?"
Tumblr media
In so far as the Spider-Verse movies are concerned, MCU Peter Parker is from Earth-199999, regardless of what Stephen Strange may say about it.

On the Priority of Information Sources
We all know that not all information sources are created equal, right? We have primary and secondary sources, for example. And before I post Part 7 of my AO3 comments review I’d like to clarify the priority of the sources.
Let’s say we have CA:CW and Audio commentaries of directors and screenwriters of the movie. What is the primary source – the movie of course. The commentaries of its creators are secondary.
When we have these 2 types of sources to deal with, and the information they give us contradicts each other – the priority should be clear – primary source is the #1. If there is no contradiction, if secondary source gives us more information – when we can use it.
I’d like to note as well, that we should not blindly trust every word from directors and screenwriters. Of any movie, not only in CA:CW. Why? Because they are real people. They forget stuff, sometimes don’t understand something, have personal opinions and make mistakes. That’s ok. Just don’t rely on them too much. Check primary sources first.
Example: Avengers: Endgame time travel situation. The movie is our primary source. Throughout the film, the concept of time travel is explained several times. When you travel in time you don’t just go to your past and stay in the same universe – you create a new branch, alternative universe. That’s how Multiverse (hi Multiverse Saga) and Yggdrasil (hi Loki series) were introduced – Universe 199999 is not the only one, Avengers created few new branches in Endgame, they did not change past in their own universe. Steve was not Peggy’s husband all this time in the main branch.
This is what the primary sources tell us. The same tell us directors – Joe and Anthony Russo. But somehow Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the screenwriters of Avengers: Endgame, didn’t get it right. The movie they wrote. Weird. This is one of their quotes: "But it was our thought that Steve lived in his own timeline and always married Peggy and those kids you see in Winter Soldier are his kids.” Completely messed up. Here’re both branch concept and traditional concept in one sentence.
So be careful with what people say guys, even if they “wrote” the primary source.

What a strange twist of fate it was that Clea Strange was calling on Marc Spector once more. After the utter trauma that was Pleasant Hill, she had been determined to never speak with the Moon Knight of Earth-199999 again. Her Marc remained a friend, but the other Marc she’d been forced to marry was now off-limits. Normally a woman who stuck fast to her resolutions, Clea had learned over time that there are certain instances when one must bend. Marc Spector had been helped greatly by the Stephen Strange of his own reality. Clea won’t use the word indebted, but Spector certainly owes the Sanctum for all the time they had spent looking at his condition while also balancing the dissolution of reality.
The first call she had made was to the Moon Knight of her reality, the man who aided her when her husband was dead. He was otherwise occupied, much to her great disappointment. Clea knew her reason for calling appeared to be flimsy. The Stephen of Earth-199999 had died and been resurrected. Ever since his rebirth, Clea has found something off with his aura. Her concerns have not been paid much attention to so far, but she doesn’t need the validation of others to spur her on. If Clea thinks something is wrong, she’ll look into it. Right now, she thinks something is wrong.
"I may be crazy, but I feel the most sound of mind that I have in a long while.” They’re sitting on a park bench in the cool afternoon air. Both Stephen’s linger in the Sanctum, and Clea doesn’t need her former paramour overhearing her. She’s not quite ready to confront him with any of what’s been plaguing her. In order to blend in, the Sorcerer has left her spiked dress and long skirts at home. Instead, she’s clothed simply in a long violet coat over a simpler black dress. The nippiness of the air doesn’t cross her mind. She angles her body to face Marc. “I appreciate your discretion with this matter. If something is wrong with Stephen, it’ll be indicative of a larger problem. It may be far bigger than something you or I can handle.”

Original Character - Elina Spector
Full Name: Elina Abigail Spector-Grant el Faouly
Faceclaim: Adelaide Kane
Tumblr media
“You may not love her, but she is your daughter, Spector.”
Elina Spector, daughter of Marc Spector, his alter Steven Grant, and Layla el Faouly. On Earth 426 at least.
Conceived after the events of Season 1 of Moon Knight, and born shortly after, Elina had a relatively normal childhood. That is, if you ignored the elephant in the room. The elephant being that she could see Khonshu clear as day when she was just a baby. It was only until she was a toddler that the system and Layla knew she could see Khonshu, and found out about Jake and the system still being Khonshu’s avatar (and if I ever do write more about this character, more will be delved upon that whole bucket of worms).
Over the next few years, with a few bumps in the road here and there, the family was at peace. With Marc and Steven helping Layla care for their daughter, and Jake fulfilling his duties with Khonshu. He also made sure to see Elina every time he fronted, before he left for whatever duty Khonshu sent him out for (he also did this in secret before the system found out about his existence). However, he never saw the girl as his child, only as his niece, earning the name Tío Jake from Elina.
Everything seemed to be all and well, up until Elina was 12 years old. With this being a different dimension, the timeline would be different compared to the original MCU timeline. In this dimension, the events of Infinity War took place years after Moon Knight. And when Thanos snapped his fingers, he took half of all life in the universe, including Layla and the Moon Knight system. Even Khonshu’s healing could not stop them from turning to dust. Shortly after the snap, another major event occurred, leaving Elina to be one of the last few humans on Earth, with only Khonshu at her side, as he refused to leave the girl he saw as his granddaughter.
Two years pass by, and Elina officially becomes his avatar after she nearly dies. And over the next few years, she traverses the earth with Khonshu at her side. That is, until the Watcher appears, asking for her aid in defeating Infinity Ultron, becoming a Guardian of the Multiverse (as seen in the What If… series). After defeating the variant Ultron, Elina refuses to go back home to Earth 426, seeing as there’s nothing left of her home, and having lost hope that she could bring back her family. So, the Watcher entrusts her to look after America Chavez, a being able to traverse the Multiverse at will.
Over their travels, the two become good friends (even seeing each other as sisters), and Elina protects her to the best of her ability. At least until Wanda Maximoff of Earth 199999 targets America for her power. Long story short, Elina Spector and Khonshu are included in the events of Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. After the events of the film, Stephen and Wong have Elina stay in Kamar-Taj, wanting to keep an eye on her (and Elina refusing to leave America).
All seems well. At least until the Khonshu of that Earth detects Elina’s presence. He sends Jake to find her, and dispose of her, believing that she’s posing as his avatar. And when Elina finds out that the Moon Knight of this Earth hunting her down, is none other than her uncle, she realizes she’s just made things a lot more complicated for the system.
“Is that your Dad?”
“… Kind of?”

I went to go see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness mostly on a whim and I...do not think I enjoyed that experience.
well, it is always kind of neat to see a film opening day at the theatre because you tend to get audience responses, which is always fun, and I haven’t had an opening day experience since...probably TROS, because I very seldom go to the movie theatre.
(Or the fact I’m having a delayed panic attack for unrelated reasons, I just had an experience at the theatre that stepped hard on one of my panic triggers that I go to a lot of trouble to avoid dealing with.)
eta: I’m happy to talk about specifics if anyone has questions or want to know if XYZ showed up in the film or anything; just send an ask and I’ll spoiler-tag the heck out of my response.
spoilers below the break -- a few specifics but the more I think about it the more unhappy I am.
The movie definitely did have moments I liked, but in general I’m feeling really unsettled and more unhappy the more I think about it -- this feels like a betrayal of the Wanda we’ve been seeing from Age of Ultron forwards, with a side of “women are batshit about kids amiright?”  Any time you have an ending that makes you wonder “wow, then why did we bother having the previous thirty films/shows?” it’s uh. not ideal. to say the least.
definitely understand now why I kept seeing headlines about “WandaVision fans will HATE THIS MOVIE!” lolsob
also I’m tetchy about multiverses in general -- I love them but I actually really hate the way the MCU (and tbh comics in general) tend to do them, and this wasn’t an exception.  (Also I’m weirded out by the MCU now being canonically labeled Earth-616 since there...already...is...an Earth-616 in the comics and the MCU is not it?  But whatever, it probably would have been unwieldy to say “yours is Earth-199999,” which I believe is the comics designation for the MCU ‘verse.)  this one did the Loki and NWH thing where characters only made sense if you had knowledge external to the MCU, which -- for years the MCU’s strength has been that the less you know about the comics (or other films, cartoons, etc.) the better off you are as a viewer and every time they veer away from that I think it weakens whatever project it happens in.
I did like (main timeline) Stephen Strange a lot in this movie -- he’s an interesting one. And I liked that Wong didn’t get sidelined, killed off, or replaced as Sorcerer Supreme, which I was worried about.  America Chavez was neat.
But I was very uncomfortable with the mass slaughter of the Illuminati, especially the Captain Carter and Captain Marvel parts, which really felt the most gruesome even though they were all pretty gruesome.  (How often must I see that shield dripping with blood?  Also Steve never had to use a jetpack gripe gripe gripe, but that’s my Captain Carter issues talking, and those issues are for a separate post since it’s not related to this film.)
(also while Wanda was busy killing the Illuminati someone in the back of the theatre went “BUT WHY DIDN’T SHE DO THAT TO THANOS” and yeah, kid, point.)
Also at this point, tbh, the fact that none of the MCU’s multiverse shenanigans are actually interacting with each other is starting to feel like a major flaw.  No, this doesn’t have a Loki tie-in (and it felt like it should have, but that might be the fact I’m a Loki fan talking).  The only real WandaVision tie-in is essentially “now Wanda’s crazy, but about her kids instead of Vision,” and WandaVision was not a multiverse show anyway.  There’s no What If tie-in unless you count Captain Carter, and this is clearly a Peggy Carter from a different universe than that Captain Carter.  Spider-Man: No Way Home is a side note played for laughs.  The nice thing about Phase One and Phase Two of the MCU -- having gone through them lately -- is that you can clearly see that they’re building to something and existing in the same universe, but Phase Four doesn’t feel like that at all and it’s really starting to hurt it.  (Phase Three has other issues but is in that weird transitional point between Phase One/Two and Phase Four.)
also don’t stay for the post-credits scene, it’s not worth it; everyone in the theatre went, “wait, is that IT?” when it rolled.
I would like to stop coming out of Marvel experiences going “wow! I enjoyed AoU way more than that!” which has happened twice in the last few weeks.  (not with Moon Knight, Moon Knight was great.)
anyway...it wasn’t for me and that’s fine, I’m just kind of sad because I love multiverses and the MCU keeps doing them in ways I really dislike.

Even with the movie’s problems, I think the scene where Stephen is told the truth about his dead variant dying and then gets absolutely disgusted / shocked / angry / desperate / confused about the Illuminati have a false statue of him, fooling the masses struck so much with me and how I write / picture Stephen in earth 199999 / MCU 616. In how much he doesn’t like to take credit when it’s not due, especially in his first movie when talking with Christine about the surgery technique. He rather have people hate him in what he did rather the truth be sealed away forever.
He may be an asshole but he wouldn’t gloat about a false statue or want it to be given in his name under fake pretenses. Show how much Stephen values truth, hard work, and accomplishments than just taking them for granted like a certain ‘hero’ as in Quintin Beck / Mysterio. At least in his universe, Stephen knows Tony earned to be remembered as Earth’s mightiest hero in death, unlike Stephen in 838 who was used as a lie by people that called him their ‘friend’. Also Carter’s line of ‘The people need heroes Stephen’ sits so wrong with me, as a Captain America franchise fan, that seems so out of character. Steve or Sam would never in a million years say that shit.
The whole scene was really rushed at some points but that little bit always stuck out at me and it shows that despite his faults, Stephen is not the cold, unkind, arrogant man people in the fandom and beyond make him out to be.

he enjoys america’s presence and even sees some of himself in her, especially in the way she trains at kamar-taj
at this point he even kind of sees her as a daughter, but he would never tell her that in fears that she’d think he’s trying to replace her moms
very annoyed about losing his sorcerer supreme title and makes sure to remind everyone that it’s by default
he’s definitely fallen asleep several times at the sanctum by accident
clea’s recent presence in his life has been eye-opening, and after the events of battleworld, stephen’s in love with her. but he won’t burden her with that knowledge of the previous life they shared. instead, he’s hellbent on helping her get back her own stephen, even if it means that he’ll lose his chance with her in the process.
► WANTED CONNECTIONS
wong taught stephen almost everything he knows, which is why stephen is comfortable with sitting back and letting wong continue with his position as sorcerer supreme (even if he only lost it by a technicality). stephen’s been learning to let go of a lot of control recently, and that includes not peering into wong’s recent whereabouts and illegal activities.
