Kenny Smith: Oh my god! It’s- (turns) it’s- it’s- Oh, me. Thank you. (gestures to audience member) So, sweet. Really.

(to audience) Okay, you guys. You know the drill. We got the man. I need all of you- I swear, he could just start a cult right now, because (audience laughs) he could just make all of you do horrible, horrible things. (audience laughs) It’s okay.

You know the drill ladies. You got people behind you. They need to be able to see. Take your picture, move along. Let’s create a system. You guys are already pros at this (audience giggles) and we love you for it.

Are you ready, ladies? (audience screams and claps.) I can’t hear you. (audience screams harder and claps)

(shakes head) He (?serves us?). (holds up clip board and leans over) Stop it. (audience laughs) What the hell am I thinking?!

Audience member: We love you Kenny!

Smith: He stars as Sam Winchester! (audience screams and claps) He’s Supernatural! And he really is a hellva nice guy. (audience laughs) ..Please give it up.. for none other, Jared Padalecki, the man! (audience screams, claps, and cheers)

One of the double doors opens and Jared walks into the convention ballroom, clapping and waving to the crowd. Jared walks on stage and is greeted with Smith kneeling to him with the mic held out towards him. Jared awkwardly kneels to accept the mic. Then they both stand straight up.

Jared: (off mic) I’ve never been- (on mic) I’ve never been knighted before like that. (Smith throws his hands up)

Smith: (to audience) (off mic) It’s what I do. (turns and leaves the stage)

Jared: (waves to the audience) Hi, guys. (audience screams and claps) (smiles and sits down) Thanks for coming out. Sorry.. that things got crazy. But, thanks for waking up early.

Jared: Yeah. (nods) Yeah. That’s true. Um, you always walk away poor and fatter. (Audience member: Yeah!) (audience giggles) At least, I do, so. It kind of sucks for me.

Jared: We should try and get everybody together and do one of those Matrix style things where you just flip through the pages. (gets up) I’ll move really slowly. Everybody take a lot of pictures.

Jared slowly shifts his weight onto one leg and raises the other up, balancing with one arm out. The audience laughs and cheers. Jared tries to rotate his body but starts losing his balance. He stands straight up. The audience claps.

Jared: (crosses legs) That’s interesting. Um, Jensen has a lot more time to plan. (audience giggles) (smacks lips) He’s a sneaky ole bugger. (audience laughs) But, um, uh, let’s think. I’ve done.. I’ve done my fair share of things to him.

Uhh, I-I tell the, uh, wardrobe lady sometimes to sew up  (laughs) the underside of his pants. (audience laughs) And so, (stands up and mimics Jensen) he’s putting his pants on going, (mimics struggling to put his leg through the pants leg) “Why can’t I?” And so, I hear back later- I- Usually because our trailers are always next to each other. I hear, “Jared!” (audience laughs) “Dammit!” And so.. you know, I know I got him.

But, I usually use the help of people. But, I learned early on, also, that, um.. as the only two actors.. on.. the, uh, set normally, unless we have, obviously, one of our reoccurring guest stars or one of our, um, (throws up a hand) temporary guest stars, that we need to team up a lot more than we need to.. work against each other.

With people like Kim Manners, who have been around fer.. a few more years in the business than we have, um, we’re more on the same team now than, um.. against each other. So now, we’re working to plan.. stuff against Kim Manners, specifically. (audience laughs) So.

(points in the crowd) I-I saw a hand in the back earlier… (shakes his head and points again) I’ll go with you.

Fan: (off mic) Me?

Jared: That’s right. (fan laughs)

Jared: (off mic) Alright. (fan giggles) (on mic) Easier for me. (laughs) (audience laughs)

Fan: (off mic)Yeah. (laughs) Um, I wanted to thank you very much for playing Sam because Sam’s helped me through a lot of issues in my life. (Jared nods) I lost my husband six years ago and Sam.. eh-With his loss with death has really helped me and my life. (audience aw’s)

And (huffs a laugh) on top of that w-with Supernatural, I have met some really incredible people online. (Jared: [off mic] [nods] Right.) And we have a little group called the “Supernatural Geek Team.” (laughs) (audience giggles. Jared smiles) And there’s four members here today. (Jared: [off mic] Nice.) The fifth one is not here.

The fan makes their way across their row and down the aisle, up to the stage holding two t-shirts, a red one and a blue one.

Jared: And thank you so much for your.. very kind words also. I mean, we always say this, but we mean it when we say it, (stands up) like y’all really are the reason for the show and.. you know there’s a lot of work out there. (steps down from the stage to meet the fan) And.. that’s why we’re excited to be doing this.

Jared says thank you off mic and gives the fan a hug. The audience aw’s, claps, and cheers. The have an exchange off mic where Jared nods a lot.

Fan: (off mic) (?This red one’s for Jensen. You get the blue one?). (giggles)

Jared: (off mic) Alright. (turns and looks at the blue shirt) I hope I get to be sergeant also. (audience laughs) (nods) Okay, good. (steps back up on stage and then turns back to the fan) As long as it wasn’t gonna- it’ll just- eh-eh- I hope- What’s- I’m sorry?

Fan: (off mic) It’s (?)

Jared: Oh, right on! Cool. (sits back down)

Fan: (off mic) (?)

While Jared is about to sit back down the fan turns and show him what’s on the back the shirt.

Jared: (laughs) Nice. Sammy’s girl. (sits down and nods) (audience screams) That’s right. (audience cheers and claps) Thank you. (nods) That’s right. Sammy’s girl. Pay attention. (audience laughs)

Smith: (off stage) Jared, we have a microphone now.

Jared: Oh, we do have a microphone.

Smith: People- People raise their hands and we’ll send a microphone out to you.

Jared: Right on. (Smith: (?)) (to Smith)..I wanted to be the one with the mic. ‘Cause then I can just start talking into it and everybody kind of just has to listen. (Smith: (?Maybe?).) (audience giggles) Now I have to share the stage. (scrunches his face) (audience chuckles)

Fan: Hi, Jared. I had no idea. It’s very nice to meet you.

Jared: (sits up) (falsetto) “Hi, Rachel.” (audience laughs)

Fan: Um.. So, in the last three seasons you guys killed a lot of nasties and you’ve used a lot of different methods. Of all the different weapons and techniques you’ve used- you- your characters have (Jared nods) used to kill a bad thing, or not kill them, just get rid of them, what’s your favorite to work with.. of all the weapons?

Jared: That I’ve ever worked with? Or to keep working with?

Fan: Either. Both! Let’s do both.

Jared: You know what? I love the sawed-off shotgun. (audience cheers) (nods) Yeah.

Fan: (chuckles) Better than the regular shotgun?

Jared: Yeah, (nods) you got to go- Yes, sawed-off is better than regular. But, (slaps knee) I was talking at breakfast, I had a great breakfast morning, and I was talking about- (throws up hand) Well, we were talking about the episode with Gordon where I did the barbed wire thing. (audience yeah’s and claps) Yeah.

And though I was so- it was one of those hard things, because.. I love Sterling. He’s an awesome guy. He’s really talented. He’s really fun to be around. Um, and so I was like, “I don’t want him to die.” (audience laughs) But, I was like, “But, I get to kill him really cool, so.” (smiles) (audience laughs) “That’s alright.” And I started (mimics holding a razor wire) to get the little thing. And I’m like, “Okay, what do I do now?” You know?

Um, but that was kind of the most exciting. Also, because it’s sort of where we saw Sam, um, (nods) get to be badass- bad butt. (stares wide eyed around at the audience) (audience laughs) (snorts)

Audience member: You can say badass.

Jared: (shrugs with his hand) Okay. Okay. Well, I said it. But there’s a-

Fan: Are you kidding? I screamed my voice last night. Yesterday I was, like, rejecting my whole life.

Jared: (laughs) Okay, good.

Fan: (laughs) So, um.. This isn’t my question. (Jared nods) This is my best friend’s question. (Jared: [off mic] Okay.)

If you could have one day- live one day without any consequences, what would you do? (audience oo’s)

Jared: What I’d do?

Fan: You can’t kill anyone.. because she says she’d be creeped out.

Jared: (shakes his head) I wouldn’t kill anyone in here. (Fan and audience laughs) (smiles)

Fan: But.. yeah, other than that, what would you do?

Jared: Uh… without, uh, any consequences… (shakes head) Like, you’re not gonna die if you..

Fan: (off mic) Start electrocuting yourself? No. (laughs)

Jared: I think, I’d- Well, first off, I think my first reaction is I’d eat a lot. (audience laughs) Man, (shakes head) I’d find the best buffet or something. Especially, because I guess you’re not paying for it? (audience laughs) ‘Cause that’s no consequences, so. (audience laughs)

..I’m kind of getting interested in this day now. (smug look) (audience laughs) I’m gonna be in the airplane going home, going, (tilts head, looking up) “What else could I do?” (audience laughs) I’d probably have a lot of food. I’d probably have a lot of steak or something. (audience woo) (smiles)

Audience member: Behind the pretty redhead. (audience member laughs. Jared makes a scrunched face)

Fan: Um… Um, what was the hardest “Supernatural” episode that you ever did?

Jared: The hardest? That’s a great question. Um, for me the hardest “Supernatural” episode I ever did was actually the last one we shot before the strike, which aired, um, before.. “Jus In Bello.” But we actually shot “Mystery Spot,” at the very end.

And it was where Dean dies a lot. (audience chuckles and agreement) And that was really hard for me, because, um, it-it was- I mean, it was very fun episode to shoot, uhm, (rotating motion gestured towards his mouth) with the talking over each other and everything like that.

But, to have to keep on.. getting in the mindset of somebody who’s watching your brother and best friend die- Because if you don’t find the truth.. in the character and you don’t find the truth in the moment, then there’s no use in you really acting it. You’re just being lazy.

So, I tried to really commit to it. But, it’s really hard. You’re like, you know what you’re gonna shoot and you’re like, “I don’t wanna shoot that. (short whine) I don’t wanna pretend he’s dying, ‘cause then I’m gonna get sad.” And you’re walking around all sad. (audience chuckles and aw’s)

But.. But, I’m happy now, because he’s alive. (smiles) (audience laughs) So, I don’t have to work all day myself. (audience chuckles)

Jared: Demon Sam. I wanted to be robotic. I wanted to be.. I wanted to be emotionless. Like, all the emotion had.. gone from Sam and he couldn’t hurt anymore. So, he had.. turned off his, um.. will tah.. be attached to anything. I wanted it to be very robotic.

And Kim and I worked it out, because we were like, “Should he be angry? Or should he be.. you know, sad?” And, uh, we ended up, (back and forth gesture) sort of together and coming to the idea that.. he’s not any anymore. (shakes head) It’s gone. He’s gone through so much that.. It’s all there, the anger and the sad, but he’s just pushed it down so much that he’s just on a mission, you know?

So, that’s what I tried to do. (nods and smiles)

Jared: Thank you. (audience claps)

Jared: Uh-oh. Was that Latin? (laughs) (audience laughs) (leans forward) I couldn’t hear it.

Audience member: No. He said- His initial question he said would you fight them or piss your pants and then he apologized for the language. (audience laughs and oh’s)

Jared: (off mic) Oh! I didn’t hear that part!

Jared wide eyed, licks his lips, and then sits back, grimacing with his head turned away from the audience. The audience cackles.

Jared: Well, I wouldn’t fight them, so... (grimaces) (audience laughs) I didn’t realize I was- it was one of two options. (audience laughs) (sits up and gestures) I would do it while running. So, no one would- I still run really fast. (nods)

Jared laughs, pauses, laughs again, shakes his head, and then says, “I’m sorry” and looks down. The audience laughs.

Um, and he makes me think that, you know, with hard work and.. a lot of perseverance.. you can get to the top of your game. Plus, he seems cool. Plus, he’s a lot bigger than I am. So, if I ever met him.. I would want to say he’s my favorite player, because he could probably kick my butt. (audience chuckles)

(points to fan) But I have a Tony Romo jersey. Actually, my Christmas present from Jensen.. was a Tony Romo jersey. That same one you’re wearing. And he has one too. So, now me, you, and Jensen all have one. (audience giggles and aw’s) (smiles)

Jared: Oow! (leans back and looks around confused) (audience claps and cheers) (shakes hand) I’m just totally kidding. (audience chuckles)

Fan: And then you went to Sam Wincheser (Jared: Oow! [feigns nonchalance]) on “Supernatural.” (audience laughs and cheers)

Jared: Who did that?

Fan: So, when you went on set, somebody would go, “Okay, Dean, you have to stand there.” Did you, like, go over or when you heard, “Dean” did you turn?

Jared: (nods) I absolutely did. (audience laughs) I absolutely did.

At first- Now everybody calls us Jared and Jensen, but at first (swipes hand) no one knew anybody? And so, it was Sam and Dean. It was, uhm, you know, “Sam’s over there. Dean’s over there.” (wiggles) And so I just start walking. And there I’d see Jensen like, “What are you doing?” (audience laughs) I’m like, “What are you doing?” (audience laughs) (points and leans back) Like, “Oh yeah. I’m just seeing how you’re doing, you know?” (audience laughs) And go over to my mark.

My favorite episode I’ve filmed.. would be, uhm… (inhale) That’s a very good question. I’ve never really thought about that. I’ve thought about sort of stuff I’m either proud of or sad with.

But you know what? I- I always go back to the episode “Skin” where Sam and Dean fought. And it was a lot of fun. It was sort of.. the first time in the shooting of “Supernatural” that.. we.. did something so drastically different.

I mean, it was the seventh episode of the series so, um.. So, we were sort of doing the same thing. Huntin’- Hunting a monster and killing it, and then going home. Hunting a monster, killing it, going home. It was like, “You’re gonna fight your brother.” It was like, “Ooo.” I kind of like the, uh- I like the idea of it.

And, um.. I didn’t like that he won, (audience laughs) but I like that he then killed him.. after he won. Which, was kind of bizarre. But, it was a lot of fun to shoot (nods) that sequence.

I was tired of kind of being like, (bobs back and forth with a thick accent) “Dean, come save me.” (audience laughs) So, um- And it was a lot of fun tah- You know what’s funny? Is that one of the things I liked about “Born Under a Bad Sign” is it pitted the brothers against each other again.

What would turn two brothers against each other? And of course, both times it’s been either a shapeshifter or a demon. And the brothers actually love each other. They just.. are fighting the demon version of the other.

But, um- eh, I think it’s such an interesting story to tell. And we get along so much, that it’s fun to fight, you know? (audience giggles) (nods and shrugs)

Uhm, you know, we were talking about planes at breakfast. And I’m not really scared of flying, unless I’m on the flight with somebody.. who’s a bad flyer. Um, and one time I was in the- I was sitting in the aisle (gestures to his right) and there was a girl sitting on the opposite side of me. She must have been eight or nine years old. And every time there was any turbulence or any noise or anything, she’d go like this (mimics jerking and gripping the arms of a plane chair) (audience laughs and aw’s)

And so, at first it sort of just caught me. And I was like, “Wait, if she’s so scared, I should be scared too.” (audience chuckles) Um, sort of that crazy, you know, one person’s doing it the other person must do it too.

Um, so I’m scared by (squints) an eight year old girls, (audience laughs) (nods) I guess, on planes. (nods) (flips hand up) I guess that’s what it (laughs) boils down too.

Fan: Hi. Um, when Supernatural’s over, what are you going to miss the most about.. playing Sam Winchester or.. the entire experience? Because I know you’ve said (Jared nods) that everybody is really close-knit. And everybody has said that.. (Jared nods) yesterday. So, you know, what is- what are you gonna miss the most?

Jared: Um.. I know from sort of.. I guess (squints and shrugs) from kind of experience, like I sort of dealt with this during the strike. ‘Cause, you know, we didn’t know if it was over or not. So, I sort of started missing things about the show, ‘cause we didn’t know if we were coming back.

And I missed the comradery. I missed the comradery that.. this show.. breeds. (gestures around) Like, even between.. us sitting here today. Um.. from the producers and the writers and the people who are making the show, to everybody who works in the cast and crew, to everybody who keeps this show going, there’s such a family aspect to it.

And I’ve worked on some great sh- Like, “Gilmore Girls”? I had a great time. I got along with everybody. I made buddies. I just ran into Milo a week ago, and it was like old times. But, um- But.. this (taps his knee) has been such a family. Like, (gestures to the crowd) I’ve seen so many faces. And got so much support that I feel like from the support of the fans of this show alone I could (flings hand up) go for the rest of my career and not.. get anymore support and be fine, ‘cause I know that people (nods) have been so supportive.

So, I’d have to say.. the.. just general comradery and brotherhood and family that “Supernatural” has built. (shrugs and nods)

I have so much respect for you, for people that can.. create with (mimics vague arting) things. (audience laughs) Because I tried to draw a tree.. (shrugs) and.. (shrugs) could’ve been a blob. (audience chuckles) I called it a tree.

Um.. but I-I- I have a great doing it. I wish it was a talent. It seems like a great way to, uh- to enjoy nature. I-I go jogging in Stanley Park up in Vancouver and I see people sitting down sketching.

Um, Sandy and I were at a museum over the.. holidays? And people were sitting down sketching sculptures. And I was like, “That’s so much cooler than taking a picture.” (audience laughs) Like, “Here’s my picture.” (smugly wiggles) “Here’s my drawing.” (mimics holding up and out art) (audience laughs)

So, um- but I have no talent. (presses his lips together and shrugs) (audience laugh)

Jared: It took a while. Um.. not as long as you would think. (holds up a finger) But, since he’s not here, (points off to his right) I’m going to completely blame it on Jensen. (audience laughs) And I’m going.. (points at crowd) into detail. (audience laughs)

Um.. there was a line. I can’t remember exactly what the line is. It’s “Sam Winchester wears make up. Sam Winchester cries.. (turns his head and says quietly off mic) his way through sex.” Um. (laughs) (audience laughs) (squints and looks around) Eh- “And every morning when he-“

..Okay, it was something like.. the- the line where I say- (gestures) Or we say, “And every morning when he wakes up he- (waves hand up) Okay enough!” He would.. do it too early. He’d say, “Every morning when he wake up- wakes up- (waves hand up) Okay! Enough!” And I’d be like, “You’re supposed to say he!” (audience laughs)

And then so- and then.. I wouldn’t say “he,” because I figured (gestures) he wasn’t gonna say it. (gestures) And then he’d say it. (audience laughs) And I was like, (throws hand out) “Well, what are we doing?!” (audience giggles) You know?

But, he’d- he’d like skip a line. But, we had done it, um- We ride together to work, um, every day. We get picked up and go to work. And so, we have about thirty to forty-five minutes in the beginning of the day to go through our lines and think of ideas and to (back and forth gesture) run through cool moments or what we’re gonna do.

So, we knew that day was going to be big. Because they wanted it to be.. (snaps fingers on a beat) you know, very crisp. And so, we just read the- I had him read it a bunch of times, because the idea is that Sam is mimicking.. Dean. And so, I wanted to know.. what he- how he would say it as Dean.

So, I just had him read it.. again, again, again, again. And I started.. kind of doing it silently as he was doing it. And I was like, (shrugs) “Alright, let’s try it.” And so we gave it a shot. But also right before that scene, uh, we sat in his trailer.. and just were going (rhythmic hand chop gesture) “Dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah.”

And then we sort of put our heads down and went straight to set.  And we’re like, (swipes hand and gets up) “Don’t talk to us.” (hand chop gesture) We’re like going, “We’re in the zone.” (audience laughs) And so, um- And then we got to set and he ruined it all anyways. (audience laughs) (sits back down)

But, uh, yeah. (nods) That was a lot of fun. That was- When I read that I was like, “That’s gonna be really fun to shoot.” And the only hard- The hardest part was not laughing, because everybody else was laughing. (audience giggles) And so- And it was sort of-

(sits up and holds up a finger) You know what, I also remember- This is weird. Uhm.. (laughs) eh- but as you’re doing it, you’re so surprised and happy that it worked.. that you sort of forget that you have another line coming. (audience laughs) So, (wiggles head) you’re going, 

“Uh, you don’t know everything.” “Yes, I do.” “Really?” “Yeah.” “..Sam Winchester wears make up.”

And then you’re like, (excited face) “We did it.” (audience laughs) And then you’re like, (rushes) “Oh yeah, Sam Winchester cries his way through sex.” (audience laughs) (blinks and jerks) “We did it again!” (audience laughs)

And so, you keep on getting excited that you’re doing it that you sort of think about how (pumps eyebrows) cool it was that (proud wiggle) you just talked at the same time. You’re like, “Yeah. We kick ass.” Kick butt. (grimaces) (audience laughs)

But, um, we ended up getting it on (laughs) camera. (flings hand up) So, I guess it worked. (laughs) Thanks.

Fan: Hi. (Jared: Hey.) My name’s Kevin from the UK. (Jared: Nice.) Uh, we’re way, way behind in the, uh, airings. I think we had the Christmas episode about two or three weeks ago.

Jared: Okay.

Fan: That was quite lighthearted in terms of, well, the mutilations and evil Santas. But, (audience and Jared chuckles) lately there’s quite a dark undertone. Do you enjoy doin’ the light hearted stuff more, like when you had the luck char- when you had the unlucky charm where you lost your shoe down the drain? (audience chuckles) That sort of stuff. (Jared: [off mic] Yeah.) Do you enjoy that mainly? Is that break up the whole dark tone of the whole series a little bit?

Jared: You know what? I enjoy it. I’ve never- And I’m (shakes head and hand swipes) totally not fishing here. (hand swipes) I’ve never thought I was funny. I’ve never been like, (mimics confidence) “Yeah.. I can.. get up there and act funny,” you know? I’ve always really liked drama. Um.. and so, it’s been a fun opportunity- That’s why they don’t give me a lot of funny stuff. They’re like, “He’s not funny. (laughs) Don’t give him funny stuff.”

But, anyways, I also- Sam’s such a serious character or has been and it’s such a dark show that it’s hard to really work in comedy, uh, seamlessly. Uh, and we’ve had a few funny episodes. Like we had, uh, one, uh, (points) that- that is a funny one where.. the bad, uh, rabbits foot, and, you know, the “Hell Hounds” episode and the “Tall Tales” episode.

But, um, I have a lot of fun doing it. And I think it’s pleasant to break up the, uh.. to break up the dark. (shrugs) I mean, someone.. someone famous.. said, um, “If you make ‘em laugh, then you can make ‘em cry.” You know? And it’s just the idea that you need the yin and the yang. It can’t just be, you know, “Here we are.. only gonna be dark and scared. And I’m going to be only scared for an hour.”

Like, I think, the writers want to laugh and be scared and cry. The audience wants tah laugh and be scared and, (shrugs) you know, scream and throw things at the- (shakes head) you know. (audience chuckles) So, you-you want to have everything. And I think… I think adding humor actually helps.. accentuate the dark side of the show. (shrugs and nods)

Jared: Yes. Um, a lot of times.. when I’m really heavy in the show, um, it’s hard to be scared because you remember shooting and everything and you’re like, (waves hand and rolls eyes) “Oh yeah, here comes the scare.” But.. the- the one I can remember most recently that really scared me was, uh, “The Kid’s Are Alright” with the little (gestures to mouth) suckling kids. (audience giggles) Um, and the whole reflection thing.

That always scares me, (shakes and swipes hand) where the camera’s coming around (mimics camera pan) and you’re like, “There’s gonna be somebody behind him,” (audience giggles) you know? And you’re just going, “Ew, I can’t wait.” But then it breaks back and then they’re (gestures) behind them on the other side. And you’re like, (scrunches up body) “I wasn’t ready for that! (thumbs behind) I wanted him to be over there with the camera.” (audience giggles)

But, that really scared me. And their faces and.. yeah. When you see them through the mirror and the glass, that was kind of.. spooky. So, yeah, they do scare me.

Most of the times.. w-when I watch the show I’m like... being self-critical or like, “Oh, I wish I would have done that. I wish I would’ve done this.” But that show was really, uh, like De- a Dean episode, you know what I mean? It was all about his backstory with the kid. I think I had two days off. Um, which is (shrugs) ..(shakes head) you know, more than I’ve ever had. (audience chuckles) So, uh- so, I got to watch the show as an audience member. And I remember It scared me.

He was (swipes hand) a lot of fun to shoot with. He was a cool guy and he did a great job. And.. (piling up gesture) added a.. whole new adult element and aspect to the show.

Um.. I always like the reoccurring.. (squints eyes) demons.. for some reason, because I feel like.. you know, usually if you’re writing demons that have to be killed off. But even from (counts on fingers) the demon that was Nicki Aycox in season one (audience claps and woo’s) (nods and gestures to the audience) that ended up becoming Sam. And season two for a little bit. (nods)

Yeah, because I think it started to give us an insight into what it is we’re going against. You know, we know ghosts are bad and wendigos are bad. And bugs are bad. (audience laughs) And so, you know- you know, kill those things.

But, um- But it’s really interesting trying to figure out- ‘cause I still like to watch it as an audience member whenever I can and trying to figure out what the writers are thinking. Like, I’m in the same boat as y’all guys. I’m going, “What are the writers doing? What are trying tah.. hint at in this episode that we’re going to see in three episodes and go ‘Ew, yeah. remember when this happened, blah, blah, blah?’?”

So, I like the reoccurring demons. (nods) ..And I guess (gestures to audience) Ruby’s been a really cool character because she’s- she’s revealed so much about.. Sam. And we’re going, “Wait a second, here’s this demon saying.. that, uh, that Sam was supposed to be the leader and, like, she’s trying tah get him to turn into.. (wobbles head) a demonoid?” (chuckles) (audience chuckles) Demoniod? Mandroid. Um, (audience laughs) (points into crowd) (a section cheers) (nods and laughs) Yes.

Um, so, I-I like the reoccurring demons. I think they tell us a lot about the show. (nods)

Jared: (exhales) …Wow that’s a great, um, great, great, great question. I think.. mmost recently, um.. the classic film that I- I sort of watched, partially because I hadn’t seen it in a while and partially because.. I was working with him, was “Lawrence of Arabia” with Peter O’Toole.

And that- I watched it and it’s.. (shakes head) I mean, it’s a- a meal of a movie. It’s three- It’s two discs and three something hours, or four hours. And it’s never (hand swipe) boring and it’s (hand swipe) never slow. And I think his character.. L. Lawrence, you know, and- is- is.. so powerful and such a leader.

And it’s (sits up) exactly how Peter O’Toole is, by the way. He just walks in. He doesn’t.. (hand swipes) disrespect anybody, but he commands respect just the way he holds himself. And I think that’d be a lot of fun to shoot.

Jared: Probably the smart in past tense.

Fan: And what is the hardest to, um, tap into because it’s so unlike you?

Jared: (off mic) (nods) Okay, um.. (on mic) the easiest is theee… Huh. (audience chuckles) (pumps eyebrows) That’s a great question.

I think the easiest is probably (squints) he’s analytical mind? Uhm, like I’m definitely a… I don’t want to say I’m a thinker, because that makes me sound like, “I’m intelligent.” (audience chuckles) But, I mean, I- I like to think things out. (weighing gesture) I like to try and see it from different aspects and it was easy for me to, uhm- to, uhh.. (gestures) kind of get into that aspect of Sam’s character.

You know, seeing it from this angle instead of that angle. Instead of just the first angle, trying to play.. devil’s advocate. Like, I’ll find myself arguing with Sandy sometimes and saying something that (squints and shrugs) I don’t even think is true, (shrugs) but I’m just saying it to see where it goes, you know? (audience giggles)

And so, I think Sam has a little bit of that. Sam’s like, (holds hand out) “Wait, Dean. Like, what about this?” You know? “What if the demon’s good?” Even if Sam thinks the demon is bad, or knows that the demon is bad, he’s saying let’s think it out first.

And the hardest part.. has been, um… The hardest part has beenn.. his willingness to.. sacrifice himself.. (audience chuckles) for, uh- for, uh, tah hunt ghosts. I mean, it’s-it’s hard tah.. It’s hard to tap into that in reality, you know? It’s hard to go like, “Oh yeah, that’s kind of how- like, how I like tah, you know, chase spirits.” (audience laughs) “Um, I’ll just tap into that part.”

So, anything to do with the supernatural has been very.. It’s-It was tough at first to find the reality, because you’re going, (sits up with chest puffed up) “Watch out for the wendigo,” you know? And you want to say it like, (imposing hero pose) “Dun-dah-duun.” But, um, (audience laughs) you have to remember that it’s real and that you’re very scared, but you know what it is. And so his knowledge of ghosts sometimes.

There’s a- there’s a scene that we just shot.. and I’m saying- and the girls saying, you know, “It said ‘Come to me.’” And I’m going, “What words.. did he use?” And she says, “Come to me like a million times.” And then it hits Sam like, “Oh it’s this.” And I’m like, (shrugs and Texas draw) “I don’t know what it is.”

But Sam knows his dad’s journal back and forth about all these demons. So, that’s been the toughest part. (smiles)

Where is it now? I see so.. many hands.

Jared: There are many causes that are close to my heart. I- I’m obviously- I-I’ve been very upfront about how I feel about rescuing dogs and.. just animal shelters in general. (audience claps and cheers) Yeah. (pats leg)

Sandy, I know is a fan of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. (gestures) And that’s also another.. (flips hand up) (audience woos and claps) very worthy cause. Um, but, at least for me, I’ve always had a special soft spot for- for animals. (nods) (audience claps) (claps)

Jared: I’m obviously a little.. spooked by Wincest. Because I’m like, “Is that.. (scrunched face) Jensen!? Ahh!” (audience laughs) Um. (laughs)

But the fan-fiction and the RPG’s I think is- is sort of an aspect of what I was talking about earlier about how everybody’s.. (gestures) taking a part in, um- in “Supernatural.” And they’re not just (shakes head) watching it to, you know- I don’t see anybody writing.. episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy,” you know? Like, “And then the doctor will say this and use a scalpel.” But they become really passionate.. about the show.

And then I think, um- I think especially for the fans of “Supernatural” it’s great. It’s a great.. (expanding gesture) learning tool and (expanding gesture) exploring tool to explore this world. (shrugs and nods) So, I’m supportive. (nods and smiles) (audience claps and cheers) (pats mic)

Fan: What’s your favorite and what would you like to do? (?Star?) in a new one?

Jared: I’d say- I’ve- I’d totally say “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,” (fan giggle) um, is my favorite, (holds up hand) not to just steal from you. But, that’s where originally got me, um, into Westerns. That’s my father’s.. second favorite movie. His favorite is “Ben-Hur.” (shrugs) (audience laughs and a woo) And his second favorite is “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,” so he would watch it regularly.

And I’d- I’d sit down- At first when I was a kid I was like, (scrunched face) “I need more explosions,” you know? Like, “What’s with all this sand and stuff?” But, now as I’ve grown older and thought, “It’d be cool to be tough.” I’d definitely go with “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly”.

I’d think it’d be, um- I think it’d be very interesting. I mean, I think we’ve seen Sam.. be the good guy for so long, that’d be interesting just to see him.. (nods) give it a shot, you know? And see what he’s powerful of. (gestures) We heard so much over the last three years about, you know, “Sam’s different,” “Sam’s like this,” “Why does Sam have headaches and see visions?” Like, what can he do? And.. I’m as curious as all of you are. I wanna know, what can Sam do, so. (nods)

I-I- When I was working with, um- It’s such a name drop, but when I was working with Peter O’Toole, who’s obviously an amazing, amazing actor, arguably the greatest of all time, he was saying he’s never, ever, ever, ever in his life done a line to a mirror. He’s saying never.

And I.. thought it and I was like, “Let’s see, eight Oscar nominations and he doesn’t care what he looks like.” He says, uh, “It should just come out through you and you shouldn’t.. be worried about what you look like doing it, because it’ll come across.” So, I just sort of try and- I read things like that. Like, I read things Daniel Day-Lewis writes and, you know, Johnny Depp writes or actors, eh- “Inside the Actors Studio” and I try and.. be like them. (smug face) So, I can say I’m like them. Jared: (to audience) We had breakfast together. She waited all this time to ask so she.. (yanks himself to adjusts his posture) embarrass me in front of y’all guys.

Um.. (nods) the set on fire is always.. (squints) odd when they tell you. When they tell you, “You’re gonna do a funt scene-“ a-a funt scene? “A stunt scene.” (scrunches face) Funt? What’s a funt? (audience laughs) Uh, when they tell you you’re gonna do a stunt scene, like, a falling stunt scene, you’re like, “Okay. You know, I’ll put knee pads on.. make sure I don’t.. bust my kneecap open or my elbow or something.”

But, then when they tell you, “Oh yeah, next episode we’re gonna set you on fire.” You’re like, (leans forward laughing and hand swipes) “So, what’s going on next episode?” “We’re going to set you on fire.” (hand swipes) “Hah-hah-hah-hah.” (audience laughs)

So, uhm, that was definitely (laughs) kind of weird. So, I’d say being set on fire was probably the most uncomfortable thing (hand wave) I had to do for the show period. (shrugs) Because it’s.. fire. (audience laughs) (flips up hand and shrugs) Very simple, it’s not like, (flatten gesture) “Let’s keep it contained. It’s fire.” (flips up hand) It’s like putting a bear on set and going, (holds up hand) “Let’s hope he’s okay.” (audience laughs)

And plus! (gestures to audience) I mean, I have bad experience with fire. I wasn’t there on set, but during “House of Wax,” um, an errant fire burnt the stage down. So, you can’t control fire. (hands out gesture) And if you can then, (beckon gesture) we need it on set. (audience laughs) Um, so, (nods) I-I’d say that.

Jared: In the.. episode “Hollywood Babylon” where we visit the, uh, Warner Brother Studio to go visit the “Gilmore Girls” set, which is funny because we shot it in Vancouver, um, not where they shot “Gilmore Girls.” But it was totally o-our writers decision, um, (nods) to put in “Gilmore Girls” and have me go, “Uhhhhh.” (hand swipe) and, you know, take off.

Which is a fun little, (tossing gesture) you know, for people who don’t know “Gilmore Girls” or do know “Gilmore Girls.” Um, I find myself trying to lower now ‘cause.. (audience laughs) I’m trying to be really cool. (audience chuckles)

11/14/24: TIME ZONES and DST ARE BULLSHIT

I am fuckin MIFFED right now because I just opened up Jitsi for my Coaching session this week and saw that it started at 5:00 instead of 6:00. Daylight Savings Time started the weekend of the 11/5, and I skipped that week's session due to school deadlines, and I haven't logged in to Jitsi until just now because I'm FUCKIN BUSY as SHIT with NURSING SCHOOL and THIS SUCKS.

I did just send my coach an email about it...

And got a response back from him like immediately, which is so awesome and amazing. TBFH I was having a good day and in a particularly good mood, only to have it come crashing down when I logged in and realized the situation, and my first thought was something like "God Damn It the universe is always out to make a fool out of me. Every time I'm in a really good mood, that just means something is about to go wrong, and the universe is just lifting me up to smack me down" Writing it out like that helps me analyze the thought and do my own DIY CBT of sorts, like yeah that's not the most scientific thought. "The Universe is both sentient and malicious", like whaaaat? But that's how it fuckin feels in the moment, and it feels like SHITE dude!

Anyways, we're having our session today at 8:00 PM my time, 2:00 PM his time, and I'm definitely going to at least mention that cognitive distortion up there in the quotation marks (Note to Self: self-directed learning of psychotherapy modalities would be cool, starting with CBT). I think I want to spend the bulk of our time on PC#1 and strategies to improve communication with my Dad. I think I'm ready to start talking to him again, ready to handle the discomforts and challenges and emotional labor involved, and ready to step out of the perspective of me being deeply wronged by him. Yeah I had some pretty shitty experiences and picked up a lot of emotional baggage from him, but continuing to view him as an adversary is no way to grow or move forward. Adolescence 2.0 is an opportunity to do things better than 10 years ago, with a more developed brain and soul. I've got my Therapeutic Communication Techniques from Nursing School, I've got my psychology background and whatnot, I've got healthy coping skills, emotional intelligence, other things to do with my emotions besides repressing them... I am better equipped than I've ever been in my whole life for this shit. I am ready to start caring for others again.

I think my mental breakdown in the spring was essentially Baby's First Burnout, the point at which The Stressy Times came to a head. Between the physical + emotional labor I was doing at work, the emotional labor I was doing in my relationship, the academic and career work I was doing in nursing school, the reliance on substances as a quick and dirty coping mechanism, and the lack of regard for my own needs: I BURNT the FUCK OUT dude.

Today, after Mental Health Sim, I felt passionate about school again, about nursing and my future career, for the first time in this the year of our lord 2024. I felt both inspired and motivated to make dinner tonight, which was enjoyed by every person in the house. I felt genuinely and endogenously happy, no substances, for the first time in... who even knows how long, months at the very least.

It is very possible that the root of my recent irritation and hostility towards my Dad, my refusal to perform an ounce of emotional labor for him, is the Burnout from the Stressy Times. Things are going more smoothly since PC#1, and I would do well to remember that Dad has also had 10 years of Life since I was 15. House of Leaves was certainly a spooky read, but not all liminal spaces are so scary. The more comfortable I get with Becoming, the less often I'll feel so dissatisfied with Being.

It’s true what they say, it takes 21 days to build a habit. The same goes for the opposite. Took a few weeks off my routine for reasons out of my control… to be fair, I was knocked out of it, literally and figuratively. Now it’s taking a lot of convincing to get back on track.

I had surgery and was put on a lifting restriction in August/early September and since I couldn’t lift, I stopped going to the gym altogether. Who really wants to drive 20 minutes just for a cardio session at the gym? lol Not me! I should’ve tho. I also didn’t want to waste my personal training sessions on exercises I could do on my own so I took a break from seeing my personal trainer, as well. All that coincided with my regular gym membership expiring so I’m looking into a new home gym. It’s been challenging since the big gyms near me are so packed and they don’t have 24 hour options anymore. I love working out early but also love having the option of going at 1-3:00 AM when I can’t sleep. I found a gym I kinda like, not as big as the X-Sport/LA Fitness & Planet Fitnesses of the world and not 24 hours but it might work. Just have to visit the facility first.

With the new bed rest/free time I had, I was able to binge a couple shows that had been on my radar and one that my nephew has been trying to get me to watch for years. I tried starting it a few times before but couldn’t get through the first couple episodes. I finally just let it play and he was right. It was a great show. When I told him he was right and I did really enjoy the show he responded, “Finally! I told you!!!” lol It’s kinda cool when my nieces and nephews get to introduce me to something new. It doesn’t happen often tho, I usually give them the music and movie recommendations.

After being out of it for a bit, I’m starting to slowly get back to it and get back out there. Things moved so fast this summer and I had the most fun I’ve had in years so it was tough when everything came to an abrupt stop. It sucked. It’s better now.

One highlight from September was getting to see The Offspring at Riot Fest. It’d been fifteen years since the last time I saw them with my sisters at Northerly Island. That band holds so many fun memories of me tagging along on car rides with them. My older sisters all exposed me to a variety of their favorite music. Whenever I hear a song from The Cure, La Ley, Banda Machos, System of A Down or The Offspring, to name a few, I think of distinct memories with a different one of them. Having siblings is a pain sometimes but a majority of the time it rules.

I saw Fall Out Boy at RF too. That one was for me. iykyk

Anyway, it’s been unusually warm for October in Chicago but can’t complain. All the hurricane Milton news is scary. Keeping tabs on family in Mexico & Florida. Hoping for the best for all those in its path.

Opposite Princess Challenge by Koffee

Pheww... that was quite an intro there, you can almost see a picture of the princesses and how they lived. Anyways, this is the Opposite Princesses Challenge and believe it or not it is actually gonna be fun and different!

Rules ( First and foremost ) : 1. Any lifespan ( You can even max the lifespan if you want, and I don't really see any challenges with a full lifespan yet, so this is gonna be different ) 2. Any town will be fine ( doesn't really matter ) 3. All the sims you need to create (except for the King) need to be young adults 4. You don't have to make the house medieval theme, though it would give a nice touch 5. Freewill on

In CAS, you will create 4 sims.

1. The king Any look you want but make sure he looks like a king ( or at least a modern day one ) Traits can be random but i recommend making him bad and irresponsible Relationship is father of the two princesses

2. The Prince ( this is the prince from another country and he is married to the 1st princess Any look is fine but make sure he looks like a prince or a modern day prince ( again ) Any traits will be fine but you must choose the trait Snob Married to the the 1st princess

3. The Princess of Happiness ( 1st princess ) * Name has to be opposite from the 2nd princess ( meaning ) Make she looks beautiful and cute and wear bright color and all happy and of course looks like a princess ( Possible Color Schemes : Pink, Sky blue, or white ) Traits require : Friendly and good ( any traits you choose have to be the opposite of the 2nd princess traits ) Sister of the 2nd princess ( Doesn't have to be step sister since we are not gonna include the queen and the servant )

4. The Princess Of Darkness ( 2nd princess ) * Again name has to be the opposite from the other princess ( meaning ) Make she looks beautiful but scary and cold and dark and she still have to wear dresses to make she looks like at least a medieval girl ( Possible Color Schemes : Dark Purple, Black, Dark Blue, Dark Green, Or Dark Red ) Traits Require : Evil and Mean Spirited ( The rest will be the opposite of what you chose for the other princess Sister of the 1st princess

Build/Buy

Ok so now we completely cover the CAS part you can now move on to the house. You don't have to start with a starter house, you can choose the most expensive house for them to live using the cheat freerealestate. Again doesn't have to be medieval and you can download any house that somehow you like that would fit this challenge. Just make sure you make a basement that looks like a prison with dark wall and floor and no light. Only the cheapest fridge, shower, toilet, table, chair and bed and that's all she gets. The other part of the house you can go as creative as you want, it doesn't matter.

PLAYTIME :

You will be playing as princess of darkness and you will NOT be able to click on any other sims. I repeat DO NOT click on any other sims except the 2nd princess and ONLY the 2nd princess. You will be stuck in prison and make sure you lock the door to Myself only. You won't be able to go out unless it is 10:00 PM and you have to get back at 12:00 AM. At that time you will be able to go to any other part of the house but you can't leave the house. This is the GOLDEN time you will need and here are the reasons why. You must 1st be romantic to the prince and break the their relationship. Then you must try for the baby. You basically force the prince to let you out of prison by using the baby. ( I know this is pure evil but this is all she can do ) So still stay in the prison when you hear the baby jingle and you can only exit out of prison when you announce pregnancy to him. When you announce you don't have to go back in prison again so pretend he said you don't have to go back. You can now make the room for her if you didn't yet and build some baby furniture. Money doesn't matter you can use Motherlode cheat to increase your money. When this is done you 1st be able to have freedom 2nd be enemy with your sister which is what you want to do. But it does not end yet. You then have to talk to the king so that you have to max relationship and then secretly kill the king using the " Dexter the bear " mod ( There will be a link at the bottom for download ). Then you want to kill the prince and then of course the princess after you slap and punch and be mean and evil to her. The prince if you want it more fun you can kiss and woohoo and do all the romantic stuff and kill him. And basically it is the end for you and her.

The princess finally took her revenge but did she really receive what she wanted ? In the end she is still alone in the haunted house and did she really find the light of hope she wanted ? Doesn't seem like it. So then she still live in the darkness of sorrow.

Anyways, that is it for this challenge. It is very short but consider the amount of time you have to get chatting and the sims are probably sleeping at that time, it is kind of hard but of course also fun.

If you did try it out please tell me what you think and post some pics of your progress and of course you can add a little bit of your taste in it, whatever seem to be a challenge for you like have a certain lifespan so that you can only do it in an amount of time before you age up into adult or something like that.

Week 3: Kilmainham Gaol, Forty Foot, Lily! (& Belfast)

Hi everyone! This post marks the end of week 3 and midway through our course instruction! This week also marked our first real rain(pretty good for 3 weeks in).

Monday afternoon we visited Kilmainham Gaol. Our tour guide was amazing and it was really interesting to learn about and see the history behind the jail. Although very sad and the site of many deaths, learning about the stories was amazing. After visiting the jail, we returned to campus and I ate, did laundry, and went to bed. I set my alarm for 3:00 am and after figuring out how to stream using a VPN, watched the Denver Nuggets win the NBA finals! Go Nuggets! I immediately went to bed after it ended so I could wake up for our 9:00 am physics lecture.

On Tuesday, we only had class until 3:00 pm so after decided to check out the Forty Foot, a popular swimming spot. We took a bus to Blackrock and the dart from there. Although scary at first, it was super fun to jump off the rocks into the freezing cold water. Luckily it was very warm outside. After, we got ice cream at Teddy’s Ice Cream and then poke in Blackrock.

Wednesday, we had a break from class from 11-2 so I decided to do a run around UCD’s campus. Although I got lost many times, it was a really cool way to explore the entire campus and I ran right by field hockey practice. That night, we headed out into town to a club which was having a student night and had so much fun dancing together.

Because our friends had too much to drink Wednesday(who knew Wednesdays were so fun), we all struggled to get up Thursday. We went to class and for lunch treated ourselves to the food trucks that come to campus every Thursday. I had Pad Thai which was amazing. We finished class, and I headed to the Dundrum Town Centre to pick up an air mattress for my upcoming visitors! I finished the night starting my essay and studying for our physics midterm Monday.

Friday, I woke up early to attend a 7:00 am cycling class by UCD sport and fitness. It was free to students and was super challenging yet fun. I then showered and headed to our classes which lasted until 4:00 pm. After class, I did some studying, made myself dinner, and did laundry. My friend Lily who is studying in Paris this summer arrived late Friday night. We decided to head to Temple Bar for a drink and ate a snack at Temple Take Out before heading back to UCD.

Saturday morning, we woke up around 10:00 am and headed to brunch. Luckily the morning rain cleared, so I showed her all around Dublin including Trinity College, St. Patricks Cathedral, and Grafton Street. We grabbed a drink at a cute cafe and headed back to UCD. We got ready and headed back out to eat dinner at Bovinity with all my friends which was amazing. After dinner, we grabbed a drink in Temple Bar and headed to a club. The night was so fun and the bus ride home was packed full of UCD students.

Our program had a planned Day trip to Belfast Saturday. Because Lily was visiting, I decided to skip the trip and spend the day in Dublin with her instead. I have included some pictures of Belfast courtesy of Sammy(Thank you!). Most of their day included visiting historical sites, but I was told they also had some amazing lunch at a local seafood restaurant.

Today, we woke up around 11:00 am because of a late night yesterday. After a slow morning, Lily, Sammy, and I headed to brunch at POG which had amazing pancakes. Lily left from there to catch her flight back to Paris and Sammy and I headed back to UCD via bus. It was so fun having Lily here and I was sad to see her go. Now, I am procrastinating studying for my physics midterm tomorrow and finishing my history essay due tomorrow night. Luckily, we only need a 40% overall to pass our physics class and the midterm is only worth 10% of our grade.

I have a fun week planned ahead and can’t wait to show you more!

[Well, looks like I took another inevitable break from Tumblr. Alas! Glad to be back, though.]

I'm glad to be back, friends! Sorry for my absence. I did a lot of work two weeks ago and volunteering last week. Life has been... hectic. But this week is starting out well. And I'm going to academic conferences next week! We're gonna nerd it up next week.

Day 11: Do you have a favorite musical artist or song?

My favorite artists right now are Glenn Miller (swing) and Belle and Sebastian ("sad 90s British indie pop"). I like pretty much all of Miller's music. His hits are the ones I'm most familiar with. I enjoy all of B&S's albums, but my favorite song off their most recent release is "Prophets on Hold."

Day Twenty-Two: What are three things you want right now?

(1) A vinyl copy of "A Bit of Previous," (2) the security that my travel will go off without any glitches next week, and (3) the ability to exercise the way I want to. Can you tell I'm a bit existential right now?

Day Twenty-Three: Halloween isn’t that far away, you know. Have you read or watched any of the classic horror books or movies? What are your favourites or least favourites if you have?

I was a bit of an Edgar Allen Poe fangirl in middle school. Still have an anthology of his works, and a dress inspired by "The Raven"! I've watched a few classic Halloween movies; I like the fun ones much more than the scary ones, even though I don't get scared easily.

Day Twenty-Four: What gives you hope? What makes you feel alive?

My faith, my family, and my boyfriend give me hope. Learning and exercising make me feel truly alive. When I'm on a bike especially, I feel like I'm on top of the world.

Day Twenty-Five: What books are you currently reading, if any? How are you liking them? What books would you recommend your followers to read?

I'm currently reading Women of Hope: Doctors of the Church, which is about the female doctors of the Church. It goes with a course I am taking on the same subject. I'm also listening to an audiobook version of The Body Keeps the Score, partly because I find Sean Pratt's voice extremely calming.

Day Twenty-Eight: What time do you usually go to bed? Do you have a bedtime or night routine? If so, share it with us! If not, what helps you get to sleep faster?

I go to bed early: between 9:15 and 10:00, every night, which lets me wake up at around 5:30 (without an alarm!) to exercise. My usual nighttime routine includes showering or washing up, reading, taking some melatonin, and reading.

Wakatoshi loves volleyball

Everyone knows this

Ever since he was little, he's lived and breathed for the sport

There's nothing better to him than the feeling of the ball hitting his hand, the adrenaline rush of a scored point, the satisfaction of a game well won

He didn't get this far on enjoyment alone though

As his s/o, you know this better than anyone, save for his coaches and teammates of course

You know the effort he's put in, you know that for every second he shines on the court in front he's spent hours practicing alone or with his teammates

And he shines on the court

Watching him play will never fail to make your heart stutter and your lungs feel like they're not getting enough air

After being with him as long as you have, you know enough about volleyball to know that Wakatoshi is something special

His speed, his strength, his reliability

No matter how many times you see that spike, the sound of the ball hitting the floor stays deafening

Wakatoshi was made to play Volleyball. It's an objective fact. Sometimes you think that the sport loves him just as much as he loves it

Sometimes, you get so jealous you could scream

one of the perks of being the volleyball captain's s/o is that you always get the best seats

You watch front row as your boyfriend leads his team to victory, and he always leads them to victory.

You watch, time and time again, as he scores the match point, that sharp wham of the ball hitting the court that sings triumph

Wakatoshi isn't the most expressive person. When his team wins a game, most people would write off his impassive face as nonchalance or as vanity, thinking maybe he's won so many times it doesn't feel like anything for him anymore

But you know him. You know that if you look hard enough at the end of a game, you can see a gleam in his eyes. A gleam that somehow means both satisfaction and hunger

Because while at the end of every game means victory, the end of every game also means the start of a new one, a new challenge, a new opportunity to be on the court. He loves every second of it

You know you're probably the worst person on the world for feeling this way about someone you love, but every time you see that gleam in his eyes, any pride and happiness you feel on his behalf is stained with resentment and an envy so bitter it stays on your tongue for days

You've never had that gleam in your eyes. You've never loved something so entirely, so completely as Wakatoshi loves volleyball

You honestly doubt you ever will

It's not like you're talentless or you don't have hobbies, you have the things you're good at and you have the things you like to do but it's not the same

You want so desperately to know what he feels like, to be doing something and to think, I could do this for the rest of my life and die happy

on your worst days, you wonder why he stays by your side at all

You watch him play, surrounded by his court and his team (no the court or the team, his.) And you wonder what he could get from you that he couldn't get from the sting of the ball on his palm, or the squeak of his shoes on hardwood

He's brilliant, wherever he goes be burns so brightly you swear he leaves scorch marks. What could a forest fire possibly want from a candle?

You watch them play a game against some college team, they win straight sets and Wakatoshi dominated the court, scoring a majority of the points. you're quiet on your way home, and he asks if you were bored by the game

You immediately tell him no, because on most days you love seeing him play, and you try and explain how you feel

He doesn't understand what you're talking about, obviously

Contrary to what most people think, your boyfriend isn't stupid or dense. He has trouble understanding different social cues and conceptualizing some of the more complicated emotions other people feel, but he's not an idiot

But these specific insecurities are something he's never had to face. For him, it's been volleyball since the start. His earliest memories are of his father in the yard, tossing a blue and yellow ball into the air while he sits on the engawa, chubby hands holding tight to a pink vabo-chan plush

It doesn't make sense to him, if you don't have anything like that, then all you need to do is find something you're good at, correct? Then you'll be happy

He tells you this, in his usual matter-of-fact way. (you can imagine how that went)

He doesn't understand why your eyes go glassy, or why you tell him you'll be fine walking by yourself for the rest of the way

But he does understand that he's made you upset, and he knows that he never wants to look into your eyes and see tears that he's put there

As he walks back to his dorm, he's wracking his brain trying to make sense of how you told him you felt, and what he said in response

He's still thinking as he enters the doorway, ignoring Tendou's greeting as he neatly removes his runners and puts them away

This, of course, alerts his redheaded friend, knowing Wakatoshi was taught to mind his manners

He leaves whatever he was doing to see him at the entrance, taking in his pinched expression. He knows that Wakatoshi walks you home after every game, and it doesn't take a genius to connect the dots

He quickly presses the pad of his thumb between Wakatoshi's furrowed eyebrows, smoothing the lines there

"trouble in paradise, Wakatoshi-kun? You can't keep frowning like that you know, you'll get wrinkles! Everyone already thinks you're an old man"

Wakatoshi trusts his best friend, even if he teases him constantly. Besides you, Tendou is his main confidant

He explains what happened much like someone would explain a mission report, in perfect unbiased detail. He tell him what you said, how he thought and responded and your reaction. Tendou is always patient with him, giving him his full attention.

After he finishes his story, his friend sits on his haunches in the middle of the hallway for a few minutes, pointer finger to his chin, head cocked and eyes to the ceiling, hmmmmmming thoughtfully

Wakatoshi waits at the entrance of their dorm room until Tendou snaps his eyes away from the ceiling and onto him

"Wakatoshi kun, I'm going to need you to imagine something for me"

His eyebrows pinch together again, but he nods

"Imagine you never played volleyball, you're exactly the same in every way, except your dad never showed you so you never learned how to play. Try and imagine who you'd be"

Wakatoshi tries his best to imagine, he replaces the blue and yellow ball in his memory with a red one, the bouncy kind they sell in bins at the grocery store. He replaces vabo-chan with some kind of stuffed animal wearing a bow

He thinks about school, about going straight home after class is over, and going to the gym only on weekends

He finds he's skipping parts of his life in large gaps, empty spaces he doesn't know what to do with, his future completely blank. It's terrifying.

Tendou must see the dawning horror on his face because he jumps up quickly with a flourish, clapping his hands together once to draw Wakatoshi out of his daydream

Tendou looks at him, smiling and says "y/n-chan doesn't have their volleyball. Most people aren't as lucky as you, finding your volleyball so early Wakatoshi-kun. Some people never find their's at all"

He stands at the entrance quietly for awhile after Tendou returns to his room, thinking about how scary it felt to imagine, even for a few minutes, his life full of the blanks that his sport filled

He wonders how it would be like to have those blanks empty all the time, with not even a clue how to complete them

Swallowing his pride, Wakatoshi realizes he wouldn't be able to live like that. Wouldn't be able to go forward into such unknowable territory, under such impossible odds

He thinks about you waking up every day, seeing your life full of blanks, and still pushing forwards despite it

He doesn't get much sleep that night.

You wake up in the morning to Wakatoshi's text ringtone

7:10am Toshi <3: Call in sick for first period.

7:10am Toshi <3: I am going to pick you up at 8.

7:13am Toshi <3: I will bring you breakfast.

7:27am Toshi <3: Wear a light jacket, it's chilly.

The half of you that's still hurt over yesterday wants to tell him to shove breakfast up his ass, but then you realise something

You stare at your phone, deeply confused

Doesn't he have volleyball practice before school?

You get ready quickly, and sure enough, when you walk out of your door at exactly 8:00, Wakatoshi is there.

He's wearing his tracksuit and runners, and he hands you a paper bag from the conbini. There's an apple, a bag of grapes and onigiri. In his other hand he's holding a warm drink, written on the lid is your favourite, exactly how you like it

"I am taking you to the park."

You tilt your head up at him, confused

"don't you have volleyball practice?"

"I'm skipping. We are going to feed the ducks."

The idea of Ushijima Wakatoshi skipping volleyball practice stuns you into silence, and you simply follow his lead to the direction of the park, you walking and him doing some sort of ridiculous exercise thing that looks like it'd make you puke

When you get there, you're happy to find that your usual bench is empty.

Wakatoshi pulls a water bottle out of his ridiculously-deep men's tracksuit pockets while you take the bunch of grapes out of the bag, neatly dividing it in half. You decide to take the big half of the grape bunch for once, because he was being a jerk yesterday and you deserve to feed the ducks more than he does. You give him his half and you both start feeding the ducks in silence

After awhile, he decides to speak

"Tendou made me imagine something yesterday"

You turn to face him, but he's still looking at the ducks

"he told me to imagine my life if I'd never played volleyball"

He frowns

"he said to imagine everything about me was the same, except I never started playing. I found that it was difficult"

"there were many things I found I couldn't fill in, both in my life and in myself"

"but the worst part was imagining the future. I couldn't imagine a single thing to put in it"

"I wouldn't be able to live like that. To live every day and see blank spaces and uncertainties. It sounds terrible"

He pauses for a moment and you're like :/ wow king thanks for the pep talk

But he takes a deep breath and he continues

"I think, for a person to face that uncertainty and keep pushing forward, they would have to be exceptional"

Your head snaps to look at him so fast you almost get whiplash

Exceptional

There's a word that you've never used to describe yourself

"I think, that if I knew someone like that, I would tell them that they are strong in a way that I doubt I will ever be"

He finally turns to look at you, and you try your best to see him through the tears distorting your vision

"after awhile of thinking, I finally thought of something that I could put in that blank future. Would you like to know what it was?"

You just nod, not trusting your words. His big hands gently engulf your own and for a moment you're absolutely certain Ushijima Wakatoshi will be the death of you

"if I didn't have Volleyball, if I didn't have a single clue of what I could do with my future, if I still had you by my side, I think I would be alright"

One hit K.O.

He keeps going though, as if he didn't just kill you

"if you would have me, I'd like to be in your blank future. For as long as it takes for you to find your volleyball, I'll be there. If it's months or years or decades,"

"if decades pass and you never find your volleyball, I would still like to stay by your side. Maybe your volleyball is looking for volleyball?"

His face contorts in consideration of the idea, and you can't help but laugh wetly, your tears soaking into his jacket as you bury your face into his arm

He presses a soft kiss to your head

"I apologize for what I said last night. I didn't understand"

You only shake your head

You two sit in companionable silence for a little longer so you can eat your breakfast, then you both walk to second period hand in hand

It's only in the boredom of your math class that you realize the gravity of what your boyfriend had said to you in the park

2. If you had to give up your keyboard and write your stories exclusively by hand, could you do it? If you already write everything by hand, a) are you a wizard and b) pen or pencil?

I think I could, in theory. That might actually be kind of a fun challenge, lol, just to see if I could. My problem with writing exclusively by hand is I tend to write really out of order, to the point of sometimes stopping writing whole sentences right in the

So yeah, I feel like I would have a hard time if I couldn't jump around like that, but also that is probably a bad habit that I should break. I will write individual scenes or little scraps of ideas in notebooks, especially when I was working. I think that's probably how I would write, if I were to do something like that. I would probably write a full outline and then just tackle scenes out of order, and then try to type it in order.

It would definitely be in pen. I don't like the smudges or the impermanence of pencil. I also write a lot in journals and notebooks with the thought of looking back at them when I am an old lady and I'm concerned about pencil fading.

But alas, I am not a wizard, so I mostly just write on my computer these days. (I am looking at my WIP list being like...hm I wonder if I could try writing any of these out by hand before typing.)

7. What is your deepest joy about writing?

I think when you have a scene in your head and you suddenly get in the flow and everything is so vivid in your brain and just comes out and you're barely aware of time passing, but suddenly you have a few thousand words and it's exactly what you pictured, but now it exists outside of your head, in this new permanent form. Like, when you have that story in your mind it's kind of scary, because it's so ephemeral, it might be gone and you'll never get it back, and it's such a relief when the writing part just works and then it exists outside of you and you don't have to worry about it disappearing anymore.

9. Do you believe in ghosts? This isn’t about writing I just wanna know

I think I do. Mostly because I have been thoroughly freaked out at this sort of...sense of something else being there, just away from my consciousness. But on the flip side, I've been in other situations where it would have made sense to feel like there was a ghost there, but I've felt nothing, so that negative evidence feels like equally valid confirmation. Like if it was just my brain inventing the vibes because I knew a place was 'supposed' to be haunted, I feel like I wouldn't not feel something, you know?

(tldr, I worked in a crypt for 3 years and never felt weird, but I've been really creeped out in other situations.)

14. Do you lend your books to people? Are people scared to borrow books from you? Do you know exactly where all your “lost” books are and which specific friend from school you haven’t seen in twelve years still possesses them? Will you ever get them back?

I do loan out books, I don't mind. I've always gotten the important ones back. I'm not sure I'd loan out something really special to me, or anything I'd written in. (My copy of The Silmarillion has some personal notes on certain passages, so that's probably never going out to someone.) But for most books I don't mind lending them out, and I tend to beat up my books so I don't mind if people dog-ear the pages.

Apparently some of my 'lost' books have been in my parents' basement this whole time, so aren't really lost. There's one that I know for certain is sitting on a friend's shelf and I feel sort of guilty about asking for it back, because I think they've forgotten, but every time I'm over there I just look at it like...huh, that's mine.

27. Who is the most stressful character you’ve ever written? Why?

I think I'm still a little scarred from 00s/10s fanfiction culture, which wasn't very forgiving of female OCs, because every time I write a female OC I worry people are going to "flame" me with comments about Mary Sues or something. I've never had a bad reaction, but I remember being sooo stressed way back in the day before I posted that one chapter of 'pain and other human sensations' that introduced Astrid, or Kitri in 'what follows us'. Especially Astrid probably, because she was actually sort of functioning as an author-insert, in that she was delivering a lot of exposition and also my personal thoughts on the Sokovia Accords in that universe. But it worked out ok thus far.

28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why?

Possibly unpopular opinion, but Peter Quill! I actually really like Peter and his voice has always come really naturally to me, so I find it very delightful whenever I can write something featuring him. :-)

It’s Spooky Time, Tropesters! Welcome to the Second TROPED Horror Event!!! For this Round of our TROPED: The Fanfic Writing Challenge, you will select the tropes you want to write and create the Horror fic of your dreams!

How it Works:

The Challenge will be structured in a similar manner as previous Choice Events: tropes and theme list will be released, fourteen (14) days to write, three (3) days to vote; one quick round, done and done!

It’s a Multifandom Event! We've decided to open up some of our events to multifandom writing, and Troped Horror is one of them! Write from any fandom you'd like! All Fandoms are welcome and there is in no minimum participation required for this event! And no sign-ups necessary!

Choose a Theme for your fic from our list of Horror-centric themes! Ghost stories, urban legends, slasher fics, or mystery thrillers, you name it, we wanna see it! But, if Horror isn’t your thing, these fics do not have to be scary ("horror" just sounds better than "halloween")! Any and all halloween themed fics are also welcome here! While we are definitely encouraging scary, spooky, horror style fics, any fic with a general Halloween theme that follows our guidelines and tropes would work great, from a slasher flick inspired horror fic to a soft and fluffy trick-o'-treating kid fic!

Choose four (4) Tropes for your fic from our list of tropes! (You can, of course, choose more than four, but only the first four tropes you list will be included for voting). For this challenge, at least one of your four tropes must be a ‘Horror’ trope, which are in a separate list from the other tropes.

This writing challenge is meant to be a fun and positive experience for everyone. We reserve the right to disqualify anyone if we are reading their fic and we think it violates any of our rules!

I'd like to request a small MHA ficlet involving ShinDeku, coffee, and the chaos that ensues from sleep deprived people having to put up with their hyperactive s/o. ^_^

(Sorry this took a bit! It was two days before I realized I even got anything!)

Shinsou had a love hate relationship with sleep, on one hand. It was great, he loved the soft plushies of his pillows and the warmth that came from his bedding, UA only had the best for their students and he had hoped that they would help him better than his old stiff twin bed back at home.

On the other hand he loathed sleep, the nightmares that came with it. The uncomfortable twisting and turning, feeling like his eyes were going to pop out of their sockets and fruitlessly staring at the green clock (his mind flashed to other things that involved greens and felt a small smile twinge in the corner of chapped lips) feeling the frustration twist in his chest.

It was one of the latter nights, so. Like any sleep deprived person who is doing something they desperately need not.

Hitoshi got coffee.

That was the first mistake he made.

As the holder of the most sacred, precious quirk in the world came with regulations that Midoriya Izuku tried to follow and he would assume he did a decent job of it, he ate what he needed, he slept the amount he needed. So if you were to ask him ignoring the broken bones and that one time he kept falling off buildings interning under Gran Torino. Yes, he was doing a good job.

So when he woke up to his found vibrating on his nightstand with the clock reading “3:45 AM” he was more than a little annoyed, worried and disgruntled.

Some of those worries spiked up at the name of the caller ID, with a quick click and throwing the blankets off of him he brought it up to his ear.

“What is it? Is something wrong? Do I need to-“

He was cut off by his boyfriends voice

“Did you ever see that one tumblr comic about a mom dinosaur telling her baby to close its eyes and count to ten because the meteor was coming and they wouldn’t be alive by the time the baby dino hit ten”

“What-“

“Because I do and I spent an hour crying over it”

Bewildered, Izuku took the ear from his phone to stare down at it, contemplating whether or not to hang up or inquire his boyfriend further because honestly he was curious.

So what he ended up asking was “are you high”

Hitoshi on the other line took on a sultry tone.

“On those dekudonks? You bet your fucking ass I am”

“I’m hanging up now”

“NO-“ Izuku had to admit to himself he did giggle at the cut off squeak on the other line, it wasn’t two seconds before his phone lit up again.

He clicked answer again

“I’ve been betrayed”

“Smartass”

“I will hypnotize you to come cuddle”

“Oh?” Feeling his body relax he laid back into the bed, tone taking on a teasing tone he said “the tall, scary Hitoshi shinsou want’s cuddles? The one who made Denki do the turkey dance in the middle of the cafeteria in front of Jirou and tried to fist fight Kacchan on the second day of the hero course wants cuddles?”

There was a huff from the line.

“Kaminari lost a bet to me and that prick deserved it”

Deku felt laughter take over him remembering the day Kacchan challenged Toshi to a no quirk fight and ended being pinned to the ground. “Believe me” he grinned “I know, he still sulks over it.”

“I wouldn’t expect any less, I know when I get transferred there he’ll wanna fight again”

“On a scale of one to ten how fast do you think I could chug three cold Frappuccinos” Hitoshi inquired, staring down at the forbidden apple.

“Let’s not”

“Let’s do”

It was in under three minutes, Izuku timed it.

They talked endlessly about things, about how the villain dabi had a weird resemblance to the late Todoroki Touya which sparked an argument on Izuku being All Might’s illegitimate child which he was not thank you very much to bingeing star track some American series to shinsou doing the Rasputin dance from memory while Izuku poorly sang it quietly as he could.

It was finally about 5:00 am when the purple haired male finally crashed out and he himself felt his own tiredness crash over him like a wave. Luckily it was a weekend for them and he mused he could skip out on breakfast and maybe pick up lunch with Hitoshi.

He drifted off with smiles of their silliness still fresh in his mind and committed himself to remembering it as vividly as he could, still on call Hitoshi’s soft snores lulled him finally into his own slumber.

No one questioned why deku came down late and was more giddy than usual, wasn’t their business anyway.

1. Beginning

It started when his father, smelling like expensive liquors and overbearing perfume, shoved a packet of folders at him and stated “You deal with it. Your father has a hang- headache” before staggering off back to his bedroom to sleep off yesterday’s social gathering.  

He was ecstatic. His father began to trust him to handle things in the company. Before he was a mere fixture in the company, only present to speak pleasantries and let others know that Jacques Schnee had a well-bred son. But now he had responsibilities and power.  

Whitley Schnee, soon-to-be-heir of the Schnee Dust Company since Weiss didn’t seem to care about it and Willow just left to join Atlas, will show everyone his worth, starting with.... a whole lot of complaints about their customer service.

2. Complaints

“This motor is covered under warranty. I still have the original receipt. You have to take it back.”

“Sorry, but the warranty only covers usage in automobiles. You said you tried installing it in a motorcycle, so your warranty is void.”

“...A motorcycle is an automobile, sir.”

“Look smartass, you’re getting on my nerves. You’re not going to get a refund from the Schnee Dust Company, got it?”

“Excuse me!? I want to talk to your manager. Now.”

“I am the manager. Now stop wasting my time.”

“Wh-” 

Click.

Whitley’s eyebrows creased sharply as he closed the Scroll. He took slow deep breaths trying to get rid of the anger trembling through his body. A Schnee is like ice. They do not show their rage unless they can leverage it for their purposes. His teeth gritted once more and relaxed.

Those two-faced bastards. He knew the customer service staff were no good when they started fawning over him, telling him that “of course they got complaints when they couldn’t fulfill their requests” or “we got everything under control.” 

In reality, they were all just disgusting liars who couldn’t do their job. If he hadn’t been suspicious of them, they might’ve gotten away with it. Those people had to be removed before they truly caused an incident; he cannot let such unsightly things remain. 

He picked up the phone.

3. Fired.

“You can’t do this to us! This is going against our contract.”

“Just because you’re your father’s son doesn’t mean you have any power here.”

“You’re going to speak to my lawyer about unfair dismissal, kid!”

It’s funny. The half-dozen or so people who were fawning over him just hours earlier were now cursing and shaming him. Of course they were angry. He just told them they were all fired a couple minutes ago and stopped saying anything when they started yelling like a mob. His lips trembled, trying to stop himself from smiling. 

Gods. He was so angry that he’s finding humor in it. Do they really think they have power here?

Bang. 

A bald-headed tall man - the manager he spoke to last - slammed his hands onto his desk, looming over him as if to intimidate him with the threat of physical violence. The noise made him flinch slightly, breaking his facade of calm and causing the other guy to smirk mockingly at him. 

Bastard.

This farce has gone on long enough.

“Okay. You can keep your jobs...”

Immediately, the six people leered triumphantly with the one at the head of the pack messing his desk up proudly stood up. 

“Good kid, see you know when you’re in the wrong.”

“Yeah, smart like your father,” said the man at his desk about to pat him on the head. Immediately, he swatted the man’s hand away.

“...as I gather the audio logs for our lawyers to peruse and determine how much damage you’ve done to the company’s image.”

That silenced the room better than a dead body being found in it. 

“If you didn’t do anything wrong, you’ll have my apologies and a bonus for your troubles. But if you’ve damaged our image... well, a company’s face is priceless - but I can definitely try to get back some recompense.” 

He lifted a finger which everyone else in the room followed.

“That’s your first option. The other option is to resign quietly, and I will not pursue this in the future. You can take the time to think about it. 

“You can-”

“You’re all dismissed. If you linger around a second longer,” he glared at the group, “I’m going to assume you’re taking the first option and want to be escorted out.” 

Immediately, upon realizing who had the actual power in the room, the group of six began to scramble out of the room, but just as the bald-headed manager exited out the door, Whitley spoke up. The words caused the man to stiffen up.

“Except you. You don’t get an option, manager. You're fired. Wait to hear from my lawyers.” 

He steepled his fingers together, a vicious satisfied smile on his lips.

4. Security Card

...Okay. That was scary. He honestly thought that baldy was going to hit him at the very end. In the future, he was going to have a bodyguard in the room or Klein just in case. He loosened his vest slightly, the cloth sticking to his back from the cold sweat.

It was weird though. Why did something like customer service go all the way up to the level of the President?

Wasn’t that something for managers or department heads to solve?

“Maybe it’s just a test from father,” Whitley spoke out loud. He shook his head.

Yeah, that was probably it.

Little did he know that his carelessly stated statement was caught by a hidden camera in his room.

The next day he found a folder on his desk and a white card with the label of 00 on it.

5. Assignment

“Hey, Klein,” Whitley asked cautiously as the loyal man handed him a glass of water, “Did father come into my room yesterday?” 

He didn’t know what to make of the butler at times or how to treat him. Father said never to treat the help too kindly or they’ll take advantage of it, but Klein was someone he knew since he was born. He’s never seen him be anything but loyal and attentive. He wasn’t like the people he just dealt with.

Maybe he would’ve just dismissed him as just the help, but after having seen a very recent example of two-faced people, he couldn’t quite agree with his father’s assessment of Klein.

“Your father has gone on va-,” the man paused upon seeing the contents on the desk, particularly the white card on his desk. “That card?”

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a card like this before,” Whitley replied, “What does it actually do?”

Klein stared at the card quietly before saying, “Only the Master of the House could’ve given you that card. It will open every lock and file in the Schnee Dust Company. It means the Master has given you authority second to them.”

“Father must really trust me after I got results, right?” he proudly stated as he started shuffling through the documents. In doing so, he missed Klein’s smile, both proud and pained at the same time. 

The cursory review made his self-praising words die in his throat.

“Wait...He wants me to solve all these?!” Whitley yelled. It wasn’t that the entire packet consisted of a single problem. The entire seventy-two page packet was a large list of overdue problems and documents that required his attention. 

“Where’s father?”

“He’s currently on vacation. He won’t be here for a month.”

“Didn’t he just go on vacation two weeks ago? There should be someone to substitute while he’s gone?” 

“...No, sir. This is how it always has been.”

“Haha. You’re joking. Or is this part of the test, Klein?” He laughed but it soon died on his throat, seeing the man’s grim face. 

 “I will not lie to you, young master.” Klein remarked before adding with a nudge of his head, “There’s a note.”

He’s right. There was. The script was in cursive; it would’ve been elegant and soft if it weren’t for the shakiness in it. 

‘You have the right idea. Sometimes problems need to find the right people.’

6. Delegation

This was stupid. The purchasing of toilet paper or whether it had to be 2-ply or 3-ply or setting the price of bubble-gum at the employee store did not need to pass through the president’s desk.

Hell. It’s like anything that involved the tiniest amount of money or required the slightest authority needed to make its way to his desk. 

This was not a functional solution. He’ll die of exhaustion by the end of the week if that continued.

And the answers from the department heads were incredibly unhelpful.

‘It has always been this way.’

But it hasn’t. Looking through the records only he could access, everything changed when his father inherited the company from his grandfather. His father first fired anyone that disagreed with him and then diverted anything that looked like it involved money up to the very top. Maybe it was important back then, but those measures certainly didn’t need to be used now. 

His father ruled with an iron fist when it came to the company. No one dared to challenge his authority now. 

His father was smart. Intelligent. These actions didn’t match that. Was this just another one of his tests? He wanted to believe that, but...

‘The only person you can trust is yourself. Everyone else can betray you. Even family. Only trust others if you have power over them, that is trust.’

...It did match what his father would do. And if there was nothing else he learned from all those official dinners and parties, he knew how to read people, especially his father and his mercurial temper. 

With how many of these documents have been untouched and unread, what exactly is his father doing? 

Come to think of it. When was the last time his father sat in front of a computer instead of going on vacation or to one of his many dinners with his business associates?

He shook his head. Impossible. His father definitely worked hard. How else would this company be standing if he was that neglectful? Maybe these files were just like the 5% of untouched work since he had so much wor-

His screen flickered as he clicked on another file. The pillar of red pointing downwards made him pale.
