How the heck is there not more talk about Tanith Lee??
Like my gosh, the woman wrote, according to her wiki, 90 books, over 300 short stories, two World Fantasy Awards, and was the first woman to win the British Fantasy Award/Augus Derleth Award and wrote for tv shows.
Like, it's not like she just wrote a heck ton but wasn't very good! She was clearly very good she won awards, and i've read a swath of her stuff across different genres and really enjoyed most of it. I mean that even if not each one has been my cup of tea I can at least appreciate the skill and quite a lot I have truly enjoyed. She's got great prose and style and imagination. Not everything obviously was a banger, but they've all been at least well written, which is harder to come by in writing than you might think.
But nobody ever seems to talk about her?? And I feel like the fantasy crowd on here would really enjoy her stuff. The woman has done stuff in pretty much every genre from what I can see, but I never see her listed on fantasy authors like Clive Barker or Diana Wynne Jones or Neil Gaiman or Terry Pratchett or Diane Duane even though she was writing at the same time and has a similar sort of '80s Doing Cool Stuff with Fantasy vibe' I feel like people who like those authors would enjoy though she's very much her own style of author.
Anyway this was really just me putting out a rant that such a prolific and talented author seems to have fallen by the wayside and I think it's really a shame
Heck she even did a witch-queen fighting againt vampire Snow White a whole decade before Neil Gaiman did his phenomenal Snow Glass Apples and it's also excellent, give a look here:

Gale x 80's Dark Fantasy
Tumblr media
went with a more 80s dark fantasy - romance for Gale, it just felt like it fit his personal quest way better. Lae'zel's involves alot of fighting, blood fueds etc. But Gale's is abt his inability to let go of the past, resist the temptation of power for revenge over a broken heart, and all that so....yeah fantasy-romance vibes.
Hope you like it! I'm already abt halfway through Wyll's, and then it'll be onto either Karlach or Astarion.

Movie Buffs, I need your help!
I'm looking for a movie and it's driving me insane! I have only vague memories of it because it was a borrowed VHS tape, and it's kinda stressing me out that I can't find this! I thought I had a decent lead but I finally watched it yesterday and it wasn't right, but one of the suggestions I got from Reddit wasn't right either?!
Here's what I know;
It had to be from the early 80's up to the mid 90's, since I watched it on tape in 1998.
2. It was definitely live-action with little to no animation.
3. But it's not Labyrinth, Neverending Story, or The Princess Bride.
4. The main scenes I remember are: a woman in a white dress being pursued by men on horseback, the same woman running through a snowy landscape, and the same woman falling in a pond and being rescued. This is very important because I have a distinct vision of her dress flowing and swirling in the water.
5. There were Unicorns? Or maybe just white horses? Involved.
Someone suggested Legend with Tom Cruise, Mia Sara, and Tim Curry, which was incredibly close but not quite right because Princess Lili never fell into a pond and had to be saved? Jack dove in for the ring but Lili never fell in, which is crucial to my memory.
Today I watched Ladyhawke with Matthew Broderick, Rutger Hauer, and Michelle Phifer, which was incredibly sexy and powerful and had some elements that seemed familiar, but Legend was a lot closer but missed the most important scene in my mind.
Does anyone have any clue what I'm talking about?!

Garadd and Juniper as an 80s cartoon would be the kind to scar kids in the first 5 minutes because a unicorn is caught in a bear trap and a guy gets his eye gored out😍

All these legacy 80s movie sequels what I want is a prequel story about how Isabeau and Navarre from Ladyhawke 1985 met and fell in love and the events leading up to to the curse

“Follow Me.” I wanted to take this illustration of mine (1st pic) from 20 years ago and see if I could use AI to bring it to life as a 1980s dark childrens’ fantasy film. The results were so much fun. Here are a handful of different takes on the concept, which I then started to branch off into other worlds towards the end. Since it’s Christmas and all, the last two pics are where I began turning this into a full dark fantasy Christmas movie concept. Check out the gallery and synopsis for WORLD WITHOUT CHRISTMAS.
This specific aesthetic - in films like The Neverending Story, Return to Oz, Labyrinth, etc - was the texture to the imagination of my youth that continues to inspire me as an artist and storyteller today, so it is just unbelievably fun to be able to play around creatively in this space that doesn’t exist anymore.
