AI as a Partner in Music Production: Unveiling the Future of Sound
In the shadowy corners of a home studio, a producer faces her DAW, stuck on a beat that refuses to come together. Hours pass, yet the perfect drum pattern eludes her. Frustrated, she uploads her existing melody to an AI music tool, tweaks a few settings, and waits. Moments later, five drum patterns appear—each offering a unique groove that blends seamlessly with her chord progression. The third…

3 Data-Proven Ways Companies Can Increase AI Adoption and Boost Productivity
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/3-data-proven-ways-companies-can-increase-ai-adoption-and-boost-productivity/
3 Data-Proven Ways Companies Can Increase AI Adoption and Boost Productivity
As more companies explore how AI can drive productivity, one crucial aspect is often overlooked: how employees are actually adopting and using these tools in their day-to-day work. The question isn’t whether AI can enhance productivity—it’s how companies can effectively support employees at every stage of AI engagement to maximize ROI.
As CEO of Prodoscore, a leading provider of employee productivity and data intelligence software, I’ve seen firsthand how AI adoption—or the lack of it—plays out in the workplace. Leveraging data-driven insights from Prodoscore’s position at the nexus of AI and business, here are three key takeaways on how leaders can ensure AI tools are fully utilized across their organizations.
1. When it comes to AI usage, there are three distinct groups of employees.
As AI has become top of mind for the C-suite the discussion of AI adoption has moved on to tangible results. AI’s return on productivity can now be quantified and understood at a granular level that includes time spent and impact on revenue. Prodoscore’s recent data indicates that employees fall into three distinct categories when it comes to AI adoption.
Toe-dippers: These employees use AI sparingly, engaging for just over a minute per session. They may be experimenting with AI but have yet to incorporate it fully into their workflows.
Foot-waders: These are moderately engaged users that access AI tools 2-4 times per session and average just under three minutes of usage. These employees are testing the waters and looking to incorporate AI to enhance their work, but they still approach the tools with caution.
Swimmers: These are highly engaged users and potential AI leaders within the company. They interact with AI tools five or more times per session, with an average usage time of nearly six minutes. They understand the value AI brings to their roles and are committed to leveraging it to improve productivity.
Organizations that recognize these distinct groups of employment can tailor their approach to AI adoption accordingly. Furthermore, AI’s impact on productivity transcends industry lines. Whether it’s paralegals, IT professionals or managers, AI tools like OpenAI and others are proving to be useful across a broad spectrum of roles and industries. In each case, the use of AI has shown measurable boosts in efficiency and time saved.
2. A flexible, data-driven approach to AI adoption yields greater benefits.
To truly harness the power of AI, companies need to move beyond merely touting AI as a buzzword. Successful businesses use data to stay agile, which allows them to make intelligent and informed decisions regarding resources and efficiency.
For example, tracking the relationship between employee AI usage and productivity provides business leaders with clearer insights into how these tools influence business outcomes. According to Prodoscore research, on days when employees use tools like OpenAI or Gemini, they are 15-21% more productive than those who do not use such tools. Meanwhile, employees who engage with AI tools work an additional 90 minutes per day on average compared to those who don’t. They also spend more time collaborating using messaging and chat tools, fostering teamwork and greater internal communication.
These numbers underscore a vital point: AI’s influence on productivity is substantial. However, simply introducing AI into the workplace is not enough. A data-driven, dynamic approach that’s adjustable is essential to ensure that employees are adopting AI tools in ways that support their unique workflows and company goals.
Furthermore, the importance of communication between employees and managers cannot be overstated, particularly in hybrid work environments. According to Prodoscore’s data, 61% of managers have not spoken to at least one of their team members in a given week, while only 16% of managers maintain daily contact with all team members. The average communication gap is 3-4 days, which can hinder the effective use of AI tools and overall productivity.
To harness the full value of AI, companies must ensure that effective communication procedures are in place between managers and employees, especially regarding AI adoption. In hybrid environments, the importance of communication is even greater.
3. Training and established usage guidelines are essential.
Despite AI’s clear benefits, there is a noticeable gap between employees who feel comfortable using AI tools and those who do not. Closing this gap is critical, and it’s up to employers to provide the necessary training and establish clear guidelines on how to adopt AI tools.
Prodoscore’s data shows that while 24% of employees have used OpenAI or Gemini at least once, the level of engagement varies greatly. Half of these users interact with AI tools five or more times during their workday, averaging close to six minutes of usage. However, the other half only engage for just over two minutes.
This discrepancy highlights the need for ongoing training. Employees who are unsure of how to use AI tools effectively may shy away from them entirely, limiting the organization’s ability to reap AI’s full benefits, and potentially decreasing productivity by causing unnecessary stress or wasted time By providing comprehensive training and establishing clear usage guidelines, companies can ensure that more employees move beyond the initial “toe-dipping” stage and fully embrace AI.
Looking forward, AI will only improve productivity if employees commit to using the tools at their disposal. This commitment is more likely when companies provide training and clearly communicate expectations regarding AI use.
AI is shaping productivity – leaders must adapt.
The adoption of AI is already reshaping how businesses operate. Leaders now have access to more data than ever before to inform their decisions. However, it’s critical to strike a balance between relying on data and leveraging the expertise of experienced staff and senior leadership.
One of the most significant advantages of AI-powered large language models (LLMs) is their ability to drive business decisions in real time. As data flows in, organizational changes can be made dynamically, enabling businesses to pivot quickly and optimize outcomes. Yet, data should never dictate decisions on its own. Leaders must still rely on the expertise and intuition of their teams. Senior leadership holds invaluable knowledge that must be integrated with AI insights to create a well-rounded approach to productivity and innovation.
Ultimately, the most successful organizations will be those that can stay flexible, monitor AI usage trends closely, and make data-driven decisions. AI adoption is not a one-size-fits-all approach; it requires constant refinement, communication, and training to truly unlock its potential.

tumblr selling user data for AI training is such a stupid move because there is a 99% chance that this didn't happen bc the execs actually like AI all that much and more because it's a business deal - aka money is involved and what would business execs with their stupidly short-term tunnel vision for money do? yeah.
like, one of their product managers clearly doesn't want to be involved in AI either, judging from how they moved their own photography off tumblr to a personal site and made an explicit note that said photography can't be used for AI.
and we know financially, this website is a bit of a crapshoot with gaining revenue
so really, this deal was probably at least half motivated purely for The Money(TM) and like I don't know what they teach in business class, but you would think the smart fucking decision even monetarily is to Ensure The Longetivity And Continued Usage Of Your Product And Not Drive Your Customers Away Because There's No Fucking Stockholder Without Stakeholders You Dipshits
#im thinking again about the one pr disaster in the vtuber circles this year among other questionable business decisions#and im like. what do they even teach in business class anymore. how do i - a non business learner - know more abt customer satisfaction#like THIS IS A PRODUCT? AND U ONLY GET MUNNIES IF PEOPLE LIKE THE PRODUCT? TO BUY THE PRODUCT??#and ofc in that case the smart thing is to appeal to the majority not the fucking ai techbros minority#how do i. a humanities student. know this better than the c suite running this site#anyway whatever#harmonics.txt

ultimate IT girl guide
a guide to looking effortlessly perfect
"You’ve got the false narrative of a girl who spends 30 seconds on her appearance, when, in fact, you probably spent hours.”
1. basic hygiene:
having clean teeth and good breath
smelling good 24/7. i highly recommend finding a signature scent as a scent is associated with memory, id suggest something sweet yet not too overpowering like vanilla.
being clean in general. regularly shaving and exfoliating your skin to get rid of bodily hair and dirt that accumulates on your skin to make your skin glow.
clean nails. having clean and maintained nails (with a simple design if you wish) looks better than having acrylics that are wayyy too long and appear tacky.
2. hair :
having smooth healthy hair looks much better than dry and damaged hair. take care of your hair by finding the best products for your natural hair. get rid of your split ends as they make the hair appear really damaged.
in my opinion, loose waves look the most effortless yet pretty. but don’t ruin your natural hair by applying too much heat! you can try heatless styling methods to achieve this look.
3. diet and exercise :
being toned is the way to go to fit this aesthetic
avoid oily foods or sugary foods that damage your skin. don’t completely get rid of these as we all have our cravings, but try your best to avoid it
find a workout plan that works best for you, keeps you healthy but doesn’t burn you out! moreover exercise releases endorphins that improve your mood.
4. makeup and skin care :
natural makeup on clear skin fits this effortless aesthetic perfectly!
take care of your skin by finding a routine that fits you the best, consult with a dermatologist for the best results.
having smooth, blended makeup creates an illusion that you aren’t wearing any at all! this appears much effortless than a full face. also try to avoid those really huge false lashes that make you look tacky.
maintain your eyebrows and find a shape that fits you best!
5. outfits :
having a signature style which suits your body type is essential. experiment until you can find what suits you best! you can use a body analysis app for this.
wearing outfits you’re confident in, hot but not too revealing goes a long way. confidence is key. wearing overly revealing clothing might seem like one is trying too hard, but if you can carry it with confidence then that’s great!
jewellery : having dainty, signature pieces is key! find out which suits you better (gold or silver) through an ai analysis and invest in timeless pieces. personally, i think minimalistic pieces such as solitaires, simple pendants, classic hoops etc. look much more effortless.
6. personality :
don’t be too judgemental towards anyone as you don’t know what they’re going through and this makes you seem unapproachable
don’t talk too much or overshare! this creates a mysterious aura which draws people to you more
confidence is key! posture is very important too, carry yourself with confidence and walk with your head held up high.
7. examples and references :
serena van der woodsen (gossip girl)
mia thermopolis (the princess diaries)
cher (clueless)
elle woods (legally blonde)
rory gilmore (gilmore girls)
robin scherbatsky (how i met your mother)
gigi hadid

Even if you think AI search could be good, it won’t be good

TONIGHT (May 15), I'm in NORTH HOLLYWOOD for a screening of STEPHANIE KELTON'S FINDING THE MONEY; FRIDAY (May 17), I'm at the INTERNET ARCHIVE in SAN FRANCISCO to keynote the 10th anniversary of the AUTHORS ALLIANCE.
The big news in search this week is that Google is continuing its transition to "AI search" – instead of typing in search terms and getting links to websites, you'll ask Google a question and an AI will compose an answer based on things it finds on the web:
https://blog.google/products/search/generative-ai-google-search-may-2024/
Google bills this as "let Google do the googling for you." Rather than searching the web yourself, you'll delegate this task to Google. Hidden in this pitch is a tacit admission that Google is no longer a convenient or reliable way to retrieve information, drowning as it is in AI-generated spam, poorly labeled ads, and SEO garbage:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/05/03/keyword-swarming/#site-reputation-abuse
Googling used to be easy: type in a query, get back a screen of highly relevant results. Today, clicking the top links will take you to sites that paid for placement at the top of the screen (rather than the sites that best match your query). Clicking further down will get you scams, AI slop, or bulk-produced SEO nonsense.
AI-powered search promises to fix this, not by making Google search results better, but by having a bot sort through the search results and discard the nonsense that Google will continue to serve up, and summarize the high quality results.
Now, there are plenty of obvious objections to this plan. For starters, why wouldn't Google just make its search results better? Rather than building a LLM for the sole purpose of sorting through the garbage Google is either paid or tricked into serving up, why not just stop serving up garbage? We know that's possible, because other search engines serve really good results by paying for access to Google's back-end and then filtering the results:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/04/04/teach-me-how-to-shruggie/#kagi
Another obvious objection: why would anyone write the web if the only purpose for doing so is to feed a bot that will summarize what you've written without sending anyone to your webpage? Whether you're a commercial publisher hoping to make money from advertising or subscriptions, or – like me – an open access publisher hoping to change people's minds, why would you invite Google to summarize your work without ever showing it to internet users? Nevermind how unfair that is, think about how implausible it is: if this is the way Google will work in the future, why wouldn't every publisher just block Google's crawler?
A third obvious objection: AI is bad. Not morally bad (though maybe morally bad, too!), but technically bad. It "hallucinates" nonsense answers, including dangerous nonsense. It's a supremely confident liar that can get you killed:
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/sep/01/mushroom-pickers-urged-to-avoid-foraging-books-on-amazon-that-appear-to-be-written-by-ai
The promises of AI are grossly oversold, including the promises Google makes, like its claim that its AI had discovered millions of useful new materials. In reality, the number of useful new materials Deepmind had discovered was zero:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/04/23/maximal-plausibility/#reverse-centaurs
This is true of all of AI's most impressive demos. Often, "AI" turns out to be low-waged human workers in a distant call-center pretending to be robots:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/01/31/neural-interface-beta-tester/#tailfins
Sometimes, the AI robot dancing on stage turns out to literally be just a person in a robot suit pretending to be a robot:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/01/29/pay-no-attention/#to-the-little-man-behind-the-curtain
The AI video demos that represent "an existential threat to Hollywood filmmaking" turn out to be so cumbersome as to be practically useless (and vastly inferior to existing production techniques):
https://www.wheresyoured.at/expectations-versus-reality/
But let's take Google at its word. Let's stipulate that:
a) It can't fix search, only add a slop-filtering AI layer on top of it; and
b) The rest of the world will continue to let Google index its pages even if they derive no benefit from doing so; and
c) Google will shortly fix its AI, and all the lies about AI capabilities will be revealed to be premature truths that are finally realized.
AI search is still a bad idea. Because beyond all the obvious reasons that AI search is a terrible idea, there's a subtle – and incurable – defect in this plan: AI search – even excellent AI search – makes it far too easy for Google to cheat us, and Google can't stop cheating us.
Remember: enshittification isn't the result of worse people running tech companies today than in the years when tech services were good and useful. Rather, enshittification is rooted in the collapse of constraints that used to prevent those same people from making their services worse in service to increasing their profit margins:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/03/26/glitchbread/#electronic-shelf-tags
These companies always had the capacity to siphon value away from business customers (like publishers) and end-users (like searchers). That comes with the territory: digital businesses can alter their "business logic" from instant to instant, and for each user, allowing them to change payouts, prices and ranking. I call this "twiddling": turning the knobs on the system's back-end to make sure the house always wins:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/02/19/twiddler/
What changed wasn't the character of the leaders of these businesses, nor their capacity to cheat us. What changed was the consequences for cheating. When the tech companies merged to monopoly, they ceased to fear losing your business to a competitor.
Google's 90% search market share was attained by bribing everyone who operates a service or platform where you might encounter a search box to connect that box to Google. Spending tens of billions of dollars every year to make sure no one ever encounters a non-Google search is a cheaper way to retain your business than making sure Google is the very best search engine:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/02/21/im-feeling-unlucky/#not-up-to-the-task
Competition was once a threat to Google; for years, its mantra was "competition is a click away." Today, competition is all but nonexistent.
Then the surveillance business consolidated into a small number of firms. Two companies dominate the commercial surveillance industry: Google and Meta, and they collude to rig the market:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jedi_Blue
That consolidation inevitably leads to regulatory capture: shorn of competitive pressure, the companies that dominate the sector can converge on a single message to policymakers and use their monopoly profits to turn that message into policy:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/06/05/regulatory-capture/
This is why Google doesn't have to worry about privacy laws. They've successfully prevented the passage of a US federal consumer privacy law. The last time the US passed a federal consumer privacy law was in 1988. It's a law that bans video store clerks from telling the newspapers which VHS cassettes you rented:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_Privacy_Protection_Act
In Europe, Google's vast profits lets it fly an Irish flag of convenience, thus taking advantage of Ireland's tolerance for tax evasion and violations of European privacy law:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/05/15/finnegans-snooze/#dirty-old-town
Google doesn't fear competition, it doesn't fear regulation, and it also doesn't fear rival technologies. Google and its fellow Big Tech cartel members have expanded IP law to allow it to prevent third parties from reverse-engineer, hacking, or scraping its services. Google doesn't have to worry about ad-blocking, tracker blocking, or scrapers that filter out Google's lucrative, low-quality results:
https://locusmag.com/2020/09/cory-doctorow-ip/
Google doesn't fear competition, it doesn't fear regulation, it doesn't fear rival technology and it doesn't fear its workers. Google's workforce once enjoyed enormous sway over the company's direction, thanks to their scarcity and market power. But Google has outgrown its dependence on its workers, and lays them off in vast numbers, even as it increases its profits and pisses away tens of billions on stock buybacks:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/11/25/moral-injury/#enshittification
Google is fearless. It doesn't fear losing your business, or being punished by regulators, or being mired in guerrilla warfare with rival engineers. It certainly doesn't fear its workers.
Making search worse is good for Google. Reducing search quality increases the number of queries, and thus ads, that each user must make to find their answers:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/04/24/naming-names/#prabhakar-raghavan
If Google can make things worse for searchers without losing their business, it can make more money for itself. Without the discipline of markets, regulators, tech or workers, it has no impediment to transferring value from searchers and publishers to itself.
Which brings me back to AI search. When Google substitutes its own summaries for links to pages, it creates innumerable opportunities to charge publishers for preferential placement in those summaries.
This is true of any algorithmic feed: while such feeds are important – even vital – for making sense of huge amounts of information, they can also be used to play a high-speed shell-game that makes suckers out of the rest of us:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/05/11/for-you/#the-algorithm-tm
When you trust someone to summarize the truth for you, you become terribly vulnerable to their self-serving lies. In an ideal world, these intermediaries would be "fiduciaries," with a solemn (and legally binding) duty to put your interests ahead of their own:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/05/07/treacherous-computing/#rewilding-the-internet
But Google is clear that its first duty is to its shareholders: not to publishers, not to searchers, not to "partners" or employees.
AI search makes cheating so easy, and Google cheats so much. Indeed, the defects in AI give Google a readymade excuse for any apparent self-dealing: "we didn't tell you a lie because someone paid us to (for example, to recommend a product, or a hotel room, or a political point of view). Sure, they did pay us, but that was just an AI 'hallucination.'"
The existence of well-known AI hallucinations creates a zone of plausible deniability for even more enshittification of Google search. As Madeleine Clare Elish writes, AI serves as a "moral crumple zone":
https://estsjournal.org/index.php/ests/article/view/260
That's why, even if you're willing to believe that Google could make a great AI-based search, we can nevertheless be certain that they won't.
If you'd like an essay-formatted version of this post to read or share, here's a link to it on pluralistic.net, my surveillance-free, ad-free, tracker-free blog:

HIGHLIGHTS FROM ALAN ITURIEL'S TWITCH STREAM ON DEC 5 2024
The show is a co-production between AI animation and now Warner, the rights to the show are owned by Alan, they have been in talks with Warner to be able to continue the show. It's a matter of patience to see the continuation of the show
3 Villainous spin-offs are being worked on/planned, exclusive on AI Animation's YouTube channel! All 3 will deal with stories that Alan really likes, 1 of the spin-offs is already being worked on and is in the animation stage but he can't show anything yet
Miss Heed's book is also being worked on.
On November 9th Alan will be at a book signing, there the trailer for the audio book of Black Hat's completely harmless book will be shown and an AXO video game is being developed, the first AI animation video game.
Q&A Section:
Will Flug and Heed meet again? Alan: It's possible… What is your favorite chapter? Alan: It's very difficult to choose one, I like them all. I like the wrestling one because it represents Mexico and the Heed one because it begins to cover part of Flug's history. How is Penumbra and Curie? Alan: Good! One is bald and the other is not What will happen to the characters' Instagram accounts? Alan: There are plans with the accounts but we haven't been able to do much yet, but you should keep an eye on Miss Heed's account because her book is coming and with some other updates Will Black Hot be back? Alan: YES, he will be back Will we see Flug's airplane suit from episode 6 again? Alan: Yes! But to see it you'll have to be very attentive, I just can't reveal in which chapter you'll see it again Are you going to adapt more myths and legends like that of the black charro? Alan: Yes, I would like to adapt more myths or legends Will we see more of King Cassino, Cricket or any other character from the comics? Alan: Yes! There are plans for King Cassino, not so much for Cricket because he is an agent but we can do something. Would you like to see the characters in the Warner Bros. Multiversus video game? Alan: Yes, I would love to, I would like Demencia to be in the game Will we see more of Creepy Charlie? Alan: Yes! Apparently many liked her so we plan to bring her back
When will we see Flug's face? Alan: I haven't even seen it yet, because Black Hat would punish me. Will we see more about the mafia groups of Risky Heist? Alan: Yes, now that you know them we can tell more about them Miss Valdoom and King Cassino know each other and are they related? Alan: They are not related, but they know each other because of the rivalry between mafias. How far along is Miss Heed's book? Alan: I can't say! What other series would you like to do a Crossover with Villains? Alan: There are many series that I would like to do a Crossover with, but part 2 of the Crossover with Victor and Valentino is still pending
Alan could you put background OC's for the series? Alan: We've discussed that idea, but we haven't decided yet. How many seasons do you have in mind for villains? Alan: There is no season estimate for the show yet because we are looking for ways to complete each character's arc (Alan estimates that Miss Heed's arc could last 2 seasons) Would you like to do a Villains movie? Alan: Yes I would! Who are your favorite supporting characters at the time of writing? Alan: On the hero side it's G-LO, his story is my favorite and on the villain side it's Illuminarrow, she's so much fun to write. Which characters are canonically attractive? Alan: It could be Sunblast and Miss Heed, but who is not canonically attractive is Gold Heart. What was your inspiration for King Cassino? Alan: Classic mobsters, like "The Godfather" Have you ever dreamed about your characters? Alan: Yes, but it's weird because I've only dreamed about Black Hat the puppet. Which characters from the series that haven't been cosplayed yet would you like to see? Alan: G-Lo I've only come across one girl with that cosplay, King Cassino, although I think it would be difficult, and Illuminarrow, although the point is that those who do it want to do it.
Do you want to make a Villainous game? Alan: Yes we want to make a Villainous game but we have to finish Axo Runner first, we will play it before it comes out live.

ARTISTS WANTED!
We’re making a super gay super inclusive TAROT DECK!!! We want every card to be in a fantasy world and featuring at least one LGBT person. We’re looking for up to 78 artists, potentially one artist per card, but we may choose to have some artists do up to 2 cards.
Applications open October 10th at 1pm Eastern time and will remain open until October 13th at noon eastern OR we reach an application cap of 1000 entries.
Apps will be open for 24 hours minimum.
The application will NOT be available until that date - we will post it here, instagram (nova_mali), bluesky, and tumblr (novaandmali). Please be sure to set an alarm and get your application in ASAP - we will not be able to take any applications through email, dms, or after they close.
A tentative schedule:
Results emailed to EVERYONE on October 15th.
Sketch due Nov 31
Finals due Jan 15
Kickstarter running Jan 1-31
We are looking for up to 78 artists (who MUST be 18+ years old by October 15th) to join us to create a piece of digital art and/or merch. Traditional art is also accepted if scanned or photographed at a professional level.
We're looking specifically to increase the diversity of our artists, both in regards to race and gender - we want to be including all kinds of voices. Same thing with our art - we're looking to increase the variety of cultures, body types, and disabilities represented.
This is a PAID job. We’ve paid in the range of 200-300 for similar projects in the past, based on a set contract amount plus anything left over after production and shipping, split between everyone. Example: $150 in the contract and $100 extra per artist share. The additional amount will depend on how successful the Kickstarter campaign is.
Your app will ask you what you’re thinking about creating. This is not a final answer but we want to know what vibe, what era, etc what you’re thinking about. You’ll get the option to pick 2 suits you’re interested in working in, and 1-2 cards you very much do not want to illustrate.
The application will include things like: a link to your portfolio (instagram and twitter are NOT accepted as a portfolio) and if you are interested in designing any merch as well.
We also ask for a short artist bio: think twitter style - short and sweet. Please don’t talk down about yourself or your skills - talk yourself up! Make me excited to see your art!!
Reminder about our applications: PLEASE do not submit porn or gore in your highlight art. Blood and nudity are ok, porn and gore please no.
Hopefully it goes without saying but we do not accept NFT art or AI generated art.
About us: we’re two non-binary lesbians who really love cats and gay art. We’ve enjoyed our work as a queer publishing house and can’t wait to do more! We’ve completed 9 projects including tarot cards and books! Some of our previous works include classics but make it gay, And They Were Monsters, and Cover Me Queer.
Check out our work at www.novaandmali.com .

The third…

So in love with stitching this. I love the color palette and the design's ability to transition through it with no confetti just excellent and deliberate color choices. Think I'll do an update when I complete each set of 10 rows. I'm such a nerd for tidy incremental progress pics.
This pattern is Phases of Change by @8pxl
Navel gazing and a backside below the cut
Thinking a lot about methodology as a stitcher this morning. Came up because the other cross stitcher in the monthly craft hang out has encouraged me to try out Pattern Keeper a few times and I've been resistant but unable to articulate why. So I've had a little think about it and my conclusion is there are two reasons, one simple and one complex that builds out from the simple.
The simple reason is I started working from PDFs of patterns before cross stitch tracking apps were widely available. I'd more or less already figured out how to make it work for me when they came along so it feels a lot like solving a problem I don't have. If it ain't broke...
The complex reason is that as a process not a product stitcher a big part of what I really enjoy about cross stitch is the little challenges of figuring out my methodology for each project. I like working on a variety of different things and have found that different pattern design styles usually work best with different styles of stitching. I like the challenge of tailoring my method of stitching to best suit the pattern. There's usually some trial and error at the beginning but when I lock in on what works the happy brain feels of finding the right workflow are intoxicating.
This also very much is why my backs end up being pretty tidy looking usually, as that is also a fun little brain teaser challenge for me.
Case in point:

All this to say, the mental work of thinking all this stuff through is a big part of what I enjoy about stitching and I don't want an app to do it for me.
If I really want to get up myself about it I would also bring in blah blah neuroplasticity blah blah societies increasing dependence on computers to think for us doom doom learned incompetence ai skynet end of civilization as we know it..
But I think we've all had enough of that.

𝐀 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐨’𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧
Parings → Peter Parker x Reader
Warnings → Fluff
Summary → You gave Peter a mission, and as a dutiful boyfriend, he makes sure the mission is accomplished.

The city was peaceful for once, and Peter Parker was enjoying a rare moment of relaxation. He swung through the sky, flipping from one building to the next, his suit rippling in the breeze. Crime had been surprisingly quiet, and he didn’t have anywhere pressing to be. New York City glittered beneath him, a breathtaking sight, and Peter was more than happy to bask in the stillness.
That is, until his phone started ringing in his pocket.
“Karen, can you pick that up? It’s probably Y/n,” Peter asked his AI assistant, casually landing on a nearby rooftop. He perched himself on the ledge, tilting his head slightly as he listened.
The soft click of the line connecting was followed by your voice.
“PETER BENJAMIN PARKER!” You practically shouted through the speaker.
Peter immediately panicked, hands up defensively. “I didn’t do anything!” He blurted, his heart rate spiking.
Your laugh echoed through the line, “I knew you’d react like that.”
Peter whined softly, “Why do you always do that to me?”
“Stop whining, I have a mission for you.”
Peter perked up immediately, the word “mission” triggering his hero mode. “A mission? Ooh, I like the sound of this. What do you need, babe?”
Your tone shifted, more serious but with a playful edge, “Yeah, it is pretty serious. I’m out of pads. I just got my period, I’m sitting on the toilet, and I realized I forgot to restock last month.”
Peter blinked. “Oh.”
“Oh?” You repeated, clearly unimpressed.
Peter quickly recovered, “Don’t worry, baby. Spider-Man’s gonna save the day! I’m on it.”
“You have 15 minutes, Parker. Clock’s ticking,” you teased, though your voice carried the faintest bit of desperation.
“See you in ten minutes!” He called, hanging up and leaping from the rooftop in one swift motion. His body twisted gracefully through the air as he headed toward the nearest convenience store.
---
Peter was a man on a mission, and nothing was going to stop him. Well… except maybe his own lack of awareness.
He zipped into the store, landing with a thud just outside and pushing through the door with urgency. His mind was too focused on completing the task you had set for him to realize that something very important had slipped his mind: he was still in his Spider-Man suit.
With his backpack slung over his shoulder, Peter made a beeline for the sanitary products aisle. He didn’t even notice the stares and whispered gasps from other shoppers as he searched for the exact brand of pads you preferred. His eyes darted across the shelves, and he finally spotted them.
“Ah-ha!” He exclaimed triumphantly, grabbing a few packs for good measure.
Then, because Peter was nothing if not thoughtful, he ran by the candy aisle and tossed a few of your favorite chocolates into the basket. Satisfied with his haul, he headed toward the cashier.
It wasn’t until Peter was standing at the register, placing the pads and chocolate on the counter, that he started to feel something was off. The cashier was staring at him with wide eyes, mouth slightly agape. And… was that someone taking a picture of him?
“Uh… is there something on my face?” Peter asked, cocking his head in confusion. “Why is everyone staring?”
The cashier blinked, still in disbelief. “You’re… Spider-Man.”
Peter’s eyes widened under the mask. Oh no. Oh no no no. It hit him all at once—he had completely forgotten to change out of his suit.
“Crap,” he muttered, hurriedly paying for the items. He grabbed the bag, stuffed it into his backpack, and bolted out the door, swinging away in a blur before anyone else could get another shot of him.
---
Peter flew through the air, heart racing. How could I forget? Of all the things to slip his mind, showing up in full Spider-Man gear to buy pads and chocolates was not something he could easily explain away. But he had bigger problems—like getting home to you within the time limit you had set.
He swung through the window of your shared apartment with all the grace of a seasoned hero, landing softly and immediately pulling off his mask. He knocked on the bathroom door.
“Special deliveryyyy,” He called in a sing-song voice.
The door practically flew open, and you snatched the bag from his hands. “FINALLY!” You exclaimed, slamming the door shut in his face without another word.
Peter pouted, though you couldn’t see it. “You’re welcome,” he mumbled to himself before retreating to the living room. He changed out of his suit into some comfy sweats and a T-shirt, plopping down on the couch. He grabbed the remote and turned on the TV, hoping to erase the embarrassment from his mind.
A few minutes later, you emerged from the bathroom, feeling much better now that your crisis had been averted. You walked straight over to Peter and flopped down on top of him, your entire body weight pressing into his chest.
Peter grunted, wrapping his arms around you instinctively. “Comfy?” He teased.
“Very. Thank you, baby,” you murmured, planting a soft kiss on his lips.
Peter smiled into the kiss, his fingers gently brushing up and down your back. But just as things started to get cozy, the news flashed on the screen.
“Breaking News: Spider-Man has been spotted at a local store purchasing sanitary pads and chocolates!”
Both of you froze. Peter’s lips parted in horror, while you burst out laughing.
“Oh my god, Peter!” You howled, pulling away from him. “You went into the store as Spider-Man?!”
Peter’s face turned beet red, and he buried his head in his hands. “Shut up,” he whined, his voice muffled. “I was in a hurry! I didn’t even realize! And if anything, it’s your fault for giving me a time limit!”
You couldn’t stop laughing, wiping tears from your eyes. “That is… I can’t believe you actually did that! People took pictures!”
Peter peeked through his fingers, his expression a mix of embarrassment and frustration. “Ughhh, this is gonna be all over social media, isn’t it?”
“Absolutely,” you grinned, pulling out your phone. Sure enough, there were already dozens of posts with photos of Peter in his Spider-Man suit standing in the sanitary aisle, pads in hand.
“I’m never going to live this down,” Peter groaned, sinking lower into the couch.
You leaned down, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “Aw, come on. It’s actually really sweet. You’re a hero for real.”
Peter sighed, his pout still in place. “Yeah, a hero who buys period supplies in full costume.”
You chuckled, snuggling into him. “Well, Spider-Man saves the day in all kinds of ways. You’re my hero, Pete.”
Peter’s expression softened at your words, his arms tightening around you. “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” you whispered, kissing him again.
And though Peter would probably be a viral meme for the next few days, at least he’d earned some serious boyfriend points in your book.
