the cassettes are a group of characters where if i think about them for too long i start to get physically ill.
because i really like the cassettes. they're really fun and i adore the concept of a guy who happens to have a gaggle of goons to do his dirty work. the combination of making them actual cassettes who live inside of soundwave (and/or blaster but this is gonna be a soundwave cassette focused post) is really interesting.
unfortunately most bits of canon (and fanon to be entirely honest) do not treat the cassettes as actual beings with their own thoughts, feelings, and personalities outside of "soundwave's little guys."
for the sake of clarity i will only be talking about the continuity that i have the most experience with, that being idw1 and my post will mostly be talking about those versions of the characters. i've been told that the cassettes feature more prominently in the g1 marvel comics but i haven't quite gotten around to reading those in depth so i won't be discussing those.
back on topic.
i always feel so disappointed at the actual cassettes as characters. they're often sidelined into being background characters and the majority of the time when they show up in fics they're never majour characters, just background guys to pad out the cast. i'm honestly not gonna judge fan writers and fan artists too harshly because most canon sources don't really feature the cassettes as actual characters worthy of having attention paid to them.
idw1 is specifically the continuity where i feel a bit sick whenever i think about the cassettes because they go through sooooo much shit and it's never brought up. like okay, laserbeak, buzzsaw, and ravage are mostly chill. obviously they probably have the whole beastformers are lesser beings thing going on but they're overall the most well rounded of the cassettes. (ravage especially since he's actually allowed to be a character outside of soundwave)
rumble and frenzy are were my stomach starts to like... explode. because they didn't get a choice in being soundwave's cassettes and it's never brought up, ever. megatron basically tells them that they're gonna be reformatted and neither party ever brings it up. like do rumble and frenzy just tolerate soundwave because it could be so much worse? do they genuinely respect soundwave and fight beside him because they want to see him succeed in a similar manner as the beastformers? like... phase 2 shows them reformatted again into motorcycles and they seem okay with it, like neither of them seem to be hung up on no longer being cassettes.
but also i have issues and problems with rumble and frenzy always being shown as a package duo. like i think they're a fun combo, especially as siblings because i adore platonic relationships but most pieces of canon treat them as interchangeable. like it's an ongoing joke in the fandom that they swap paint colours to fuck with people and in actual canon sources they don't have consistent colours so it's harder to actually treat them as genuine individuals. and that makes me soooooo mad. i don't like it when twins/duos in media get treated as a weird conglomerate individual with two names. it's boring and it's lazy and i wish it would stop happening.
side tangent. i hate what how skybound treats the cassettes. like okay yeah sure it's fun to see soundwave go "you hurt my ravage" but what about his other cassettes. either rumble or frenzy is dead and soundwave just doesn't fucking care? does he play favourites, boy i sure would like to know but daniel warren literally fucking said that he killed off one of the twins because he found the colour debate to be annoying and that grinds my gears a bit. if you don't like them, don't fucking include them or idk, have mike spicer, the colourist, keep their palettes consistent.
and skybound also treats ravage like an object. he's not an actual character with thoughts and feelings and emotions, he's a fucking toy for soundwave to moon over whenever warren needs soundwave to be less of an asshole than shockwave. like yeah sure, soundwave being so desperate to get ravage repaired in skybound is good for his character but that dynamic, where ravage has no actual dialogue and no actual personality outside of "soundwave's cassettte" makes him so much less interesting to me. skybound is getting a small benefit of the doubt because there's only 11 issues so far, but i will critique it to all hell because any emotional tension involving ravage and soundwave falls apart for me because ravage could easily be replaced with literally any other cassette. he's not special and the comic doesn't do anything to make me genuinely care about soundwave and his relationship.
tangent over. i'm going back to talking about idw1.
specifically it's time to talk about the fucking elephant in the room that i'm always thinking about whenever soundwave's cassettes come up; ratbat.
now to preface this little rant of mine. ratbat sucks. he's a terrible person who actively believed and contributed to the oppression of millions of cybertronians. he used soundwave as nothing more than a tool and proved himself to be a slimy scumbag with the few moments that he was on screen.
however, that does not stop me from feeling just a tad bit bad for him considering how soundwave treats him. it's one thing for the decepticons to murder the whole senate, those characters don't really matter in the long run, they're nameless, they never get brought up ever again and the story just doesn't care about them once they're dead.
but ratbat is different because rather than killing him, soundwave shoves his dying spark into a cassette body and for all intensive purposes, turns ratbat into his slave. because ratbat doesn't get a choice, he doesn't get the ability to say no. he just has to be toted along and do whatever soundwave tells him to do and that alone makes my opinions on idw soundwave.... well they're not great. because later stories treat idw soundwave like he's a good guy, he's the dude who wants to make the decepticons what they were originally, he wants to be done with cybertron's bullshit.
and i have to sit there, fist clenched, wanting to grab him by the fucking shoulders and ask "WHAT ABOUT RATBAT? WHAT ABOUT THE GUY WHO YOU LITERALLY MADE INTO A SLAVE FOR AT FOUR MILLION YEARS AND WHOSE DEATH YOU DIDN'T HAVE ANY REACTION TO WHATSOEVER? DOES LIBERATION AND EQUALITY ONLY MATTER WHEN IT COMES TO GUYS WHO DIDN'T PERSONALLY FUCK YOU OVER?"
ehem, anyways, yeah i do not like the fact that idw just brushes over the fact that ratbat is not willingly soundwave's cassette. they do not ever focus on the fact that soundwave stuffed his former employer's spark into a completely different frame and then proceeded to do exactly what ratbat did to him for around four million years. and then didn't react whatsoever to ratbat dying.
like in early idw1, ratbat doesn't have any dialogue. he's a nothing burger character like all the other cassettes. but idw phase 2 specifically makes him a political rival. he's the guy in charge of the cons (along side shockwave to some extent) and then prowl fucking orders arcee to kill ratbat and no one ever talks about him ever again...
i have complicated emotions regarding ratbat because the story really wants you to see his treatment and go, yes, he deserves this treatment, he's evil and he was mean to soundwave and therefore he deserves to be imprisoned by another and used as a weapon for four million years and once he's dead we'll never talk about him ever again.
and i don't think that's fair. ratbat should've been a crucial character to soundwave after he died. soundwave should've had a moment in phase two where he realises that the decepticons have been terrible from the beginning, that he was actively a part of that terribleness, and he should've made the active decision to change the decepticons into something that stands for equality and freedom and peace.
i'm gonna move onto ravage because i feel so bad for ravage. he got shafted hard. oh the one hand, i love mtmte ravage, i adore seeing the cassettes in environments that don't involve soundwave because it means the writers have to actually care about them as more than just little guys that soundwave bosses around.
unfortunately, ravage goes from being soundwave's little guy to being megatron's little guy in mtmte. which like... okay, fine, megatron needs a guy who he can bounce off of and ravage fits that role pretty well (though i'd argue that having megatron potentially bounce off of an autobot whose morals are a bit lax is much better than simply having a decepticon who already likes him.)
but the point is, ravage, rather than being his own character who has thoughts and opinions, only exists to be a buffer for megatron. the devil on his shoulder if you will, trying to see and understand and coax megatron back into being the fearsome leader he was before. and it works to some extent, ravage getting fatally injured is literally what prompts megatron into ripping the djd to shreds. but unfortunately, that's ravage's only real purpose in the story. we don't see him interacting with any other characters means that he's entirely dependent on megatron for any insight to his character development. nautica is an exception but i have my own issues with the fact that she treats him like a pet upon first meeting him and like... to my knowledge she never really gets over that whole cute kitty aspect of their relationship.
and this makes me so mad because ravage is really interesting. he's older than most of the characters on the lost light and should reasonably be a fascinating insight to how beastformers are treated and discriminated against during the pre and post war eras. but instead he's relegated to a side character who gets murdered to further the arc of megatron, a character who sort of forgets about ravage as soon as lost light starts. this isn't helped by megatron's character arc being rushed and happening mostly off screen but ravage's death feels so unnecessary to me. he would've been much better had he been forced to be separated from megatron for most of lost light.
and unfortunately this is much the same for most other continuities. transformers prime my forever detested treats laserbeak like a fucking drone. it doesn't have any voicelines, it's just a little creature hooked up to soundwave's chest. (i haven't read the books because i cannot be bothered with aligned continuity and also if i have to go to external sources of canon beyond the original show to get key character information, it probably wasn't too important to begin with)
earthspark is fun in season 1, i'm happy that frenzy and laserbeak are allowed a few moments of time outside of soundwave but they're very minor characters and unfortunately ravage isn't much of a character considering he can't speak (which is weird because laserbeak can) and only gets a few scenes throughout seasons 1 and two.
cyberverse only has laserbeak and once again she/he (i don't think they state their pronouns) only exists to be soundwave's little guy.
tfa soundwave is so nothing burger that i genuinely forget that he exists 90% of the time. so his cassettes, as to be expected, not characters and just random objects to be played around with.
my point in all this is that the cassettes deserve better. they deserve to be actual genuine characters who are treated as more than just set pieces for soundwave and the other decepticons. i hope that in later transformers series, the writers give the cassettes the opportunity to shine.

March Mania: Sandman Edition
The lovely @tickldpnk8 and I are art aficionados and Sandman meta writers. And one fine Friday, she just slid into my inbox and went, “What if…”
And if you have Sandman brain-rot, a “What if” quickly turns into a “Let’s do it!”
After much plotting, planning and sourcing material, we proudly present “March Mania: Sandman Edition”—a bracket tournament/poll/event over roughly four weeks that involves all original Sandman artists until only three are standing in a final show-down.
Well, all artists is a lie. We had criteria for qualification, and they are as follows:
Only artists involved in Gaiman’s original run of The Sandman qualify. That also includes Overture, Endless Nights and Dream Hunters.
Only the main artist of an issue qualifies. This is usually the penciller or the “artist” (where no inking and/or colouring by a second or third person is involved). Inkers and colourists unfortunately do not qualify on this occasion (unless they were the main artist in another issue).
This year, we will make it all about, “Who drew your favourite Dream?” And as such, his face needed to be visible in at least one panel to qualify the artist. Both Morpheus and Daniel qualify—they’re both Dream after all.
Even after applying all criteria, we were left with an impressive count of 24 artists. And from tomorrow (March 25), they will go head-to-head in round one:
Tumblr media
We will post one poll each day, and you can vote for your favourite artist for 24 hours. So please share the polls so as many people as possible can vote. You will find them via the tag #sandman march mania.
And if that’s all you want to/can do, we’re super happy, because we wanted to create an event that is low effort to participate in while still being fun and hopefully bringing those artists back into your memory that you might have forgotten about (that’s why it’s not really a competition, because all of these artists are amazing in their own way). Let’s all remember:
The Sandman would not exist without its amazing artists. They deserve every bit of praise.
But it doesn’t need to stop there. In the true spirit of any fandom-event, no matter how small, of course we’d love you to participate beyond just voting for your favourite.
Each poll will contain a quick reminder of the issues the artist has illustrated so you can refresh your memory.
Maybe you’d like to share your favourite panels in the reblogs, or write what you love about your favourite artist?
Maybe you are aware of other work they have done (comics, book illustrations, commissions) you’d like to share?
Help us turn the reblogs into a colourful appreciation of your favourite artist, in whatever way you see fit.
And if you have any questions, hit up @writing-for-life and @tickldpnk8 as the event organisers. We so look forward to sharing our love for these artists and hope you join in.
Spread the message far and wide, and we’ll see you all tomorrow for the first poll (we’ll post 6pm/London each day with a few time zone reblogs thrown in)!

knowing almost nothing abt the comics industry I've no idea how likely this actually is, but; is it possible Hasbro hasn't granted the the license to do tf comics to anyone else bc they're setting up their own in house comics company (Hasbro having their own in house animation studio sets just enough precedent for this thought to refuse to stop haunting me)
Possible? In the literal sense, sure; Hasbro are a multibillion dollar entertainment behemouth, and there would be nothing stopping them from doing so.
Realistically? No chance, IMO.
American comic markets of the sort Transformers naturally occupy given the assumed demographics at play- the ~22 page monthly release that comic shops have a near-monopoly on- are infamously a money pit that is dying by slow agonizing degrees, and even if you are the most successful non-big two publisher (so not Marvel or DC) out there, all that means is that you aren't actively going broke. (Hey, did we all see the news about IDW, by the way?) The average "successful" monthly release American comic sells jack shit compared to other industries, tbh. Marvel, in the 80s and early 90s, could leverage an issue of X-Men into sales of literally millions with the right PR boost*. Now, in a post-superhero movie world where superheroes are the default mode of pop culture, they're lucky to hit 100,000. Very lucky. You're more often seeing even some of the biggest names getting 50k or less shifted a month. For a non-big two company, you're looking at under 30k for your biggest hit a lot of the time. The exceptions are notable largely for being exceptions. (Skybound, I'll note, has had a couple: Invincible is the most notable.)
(*well, OK, the 90s also had the speculator boom which eventually caused many issues later on, which accounts for part of this. but big name comics were still selling much better before that becomes a factor, and it does not account for all of it.)
To make breaking into an industry in these dire straits worth it, you have to be sure you can compete with the biggest (non big-two) players, because anything less is a huge amount of time and effort and coordination for scant profits at best and losses at worst. (Comics are a pain in the ass to produce, at least comics of that sort; any given issue will have at least a writer, an artist, a colourist and a letterer. Many will also have some or all of the following: an interiors artist doing just pencils, an inker, a dedicated colour flatter, a layout designer, backup artists and writers...) And. Well. Why would you? That's a bad deal! Plus, Hasbro would have to pump out quite a few series to make it worth it, and while they do theoretically have the IP to do so, they've never focused that much on comics and would be starting from the ground up for most of those franchises in an industry where again, "success" does not look like a lot of money. (And they haven't even pulled all their licenses from IDW; many of their IPs still sit happily with other publishers with no sign of that changing.)
The flipside to this is the place where American comics are doing much better; publishing graphic novels in bookstores, not monthly releases in comic book stores. But if you have a big, recognizable IP, the thing is, now suddenly the traditional publishing industry handles that. Sure, there are dedicated comics publishers in that sphere, but if you have a guaranteed winner of a pop culture franchise, HarperCollins and the like are interested. And there is no reason not to go with one of the big five conventional book publishers then, because they have SO much infrastructure in place that it would take you years to even begin to catch up... and you won't anyway, because that infrastructure exists because they publish so many books a year that they can sustain massive publishing empires that make publishing those graphic novels comparatively trivial, which no specialist publishing outfit can hope to reach at a smaller scale.
What it boils down to is: getting into the comics industry when you don't have to is a bad idea and everyone knows it. Outsourcing to the people already established is overwhelmingly the better option. If you're doing monthlies, anything else has a 99% chance of failing, and even if you manage it, you now have a ton of work and minimal profits. (Marvel doesn't make money on comics. It makes money on Literally Everything Else. Its IP makes money, it's just that Marvel's IP is historically generated through comics.) And if you wanna do graphic novels and you have recognisability already, book publishers are the obvious way to go.
Nah. They'll charge a publisher money for the license and then, if it goes tits up, all they've lost is the hypothetical profit that success would have given them, and at least they can still pocket their fee. Film and animation are different because they can bring in big money on a scale comics can't match.
As always, I recommend the Twine essay "The Problem With Comics" for a deep dive into the historical issues that caused this situation in the American comics industry.

Dragon Color Adventures
Dragon Color Adventures: A Colouring Experience Like No Other
I used the following product, "Dragon Color Adventures," and it has been a delightful addition to my colouring collection. This colouring book is more than just pages to fill with colour; it is an immersive journey into a world of dragons and fantasy that captivates the imagination.
Tumblr media
Intricate and Engaging Design The first thing that struck me about Dragon Color Adventures was the intricacy of the designs. Each page is filled with detailed and elaborate illustrations of dragons in various poses and settings. From fierce, fire-breathing dragons to serene, sleeping ones, the variety is truly impressive. The complexity of the designs challenges you to think creatively about colour combinations and shading, making each page a new adventure.
High-Quality PaperI used the following product and was particularly impressed with the quality of the paper. The pages are thick and sturdy, allowing for the use of a variety of colouring tools, including coloured pencils, markers, and even watercolours. There is no need to worry about colours bleeding through to the other side, which is a common issue with lesser quality colouring books. The high-quality paper ensures that each piece of art can be completed without frustration.
Perfect for All Skill Levels Dragon Color Adventures caters to colourists of all skill levels. Whether you are a beginner looking to practice basic colouring techniques or an experienced artist seeking a complex project, this book has something for everyone. The designs range from simpler outlines for those just starting out, to highly detailed and intricate patterns for more advanced colourists. I found this inclusivity to be one of the book's strongest points, as it can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of their experience.
A Stress-Relieving Hobby I used the following product during a particularly stressful period, and it proved to be an excellent way to unwind and relax. Colouring has long been known for its therapeutic benefits, and Dragon Color Adventures is no exception. The act of focusing on the detailed designs and selecting colours allowed me to escape from daily stresses and immerse myself in a world of creativity and imagination. Each completed page gave me a sense of accomplishment and calm.
A Fantastic Gift Idea If you are looking for a unique and thoughtful gift, Dragon Color Adventures is an excellent choice. It is perfect for anyone who enjoys colouring, fantasy, or art in general. The beautiful cover and high-quality production make it a presentable and cherished gift. I used the following product and gifted another copy to a friend, who was equally thrilled with the detailed designs and quality.
Encourages Creativity and Imagination One of the most rewarding aspects of Dragon Color Adventures is how it encourages creativity and imagination. The fantasy theme of dragons allows for endless possibilities when it comes to colour choices and artistic interpretation. I found myself experimenting with bold and unconventional colour palettes, which made the experience even more enjoyable and fulfilling. This book truly sparks the imagination and inspires creativity.
Ideal for Both Adults and Children Dragon Color Adventures is not just for adults; it is also suitable for children. The whimsical dragon designs are sure to capture the interest of younger artists, making it a great activity for parents and children to enjoy together. The shared experience of colouring can be a wonderful bonding activity, fostering creativity and quality time spent together.
Excellent Value for MoneyI used the following product and found it to be excellent value for money. The number of pages, the quality of the paper, and the intricacy of the designs all contribute to a product that offers many hours of enjoyment. Unlike other colouring books that may be quickly completed, Dragon Color Adventures provides long-lasting entertainment and artistic satisfaction.
Inspiring and Satisfying Competing each page of Dragon Color Adventures brings a sense of pride and accomplishment. The beautiful finished pieces are worthy of display, and I have framed several of my completed pages. This book not only provides a creative outlet but also results in tangible, beautiful artwork that I am proud to showcase.
A Must-Have for Colouring Enthusiasts In conclusion, I used the following product and wholeheartedly recommend Dragon Color Adventures to any colouring enthusiast. Its intricate designs, high-quality paper, and ability to inspire creativity make it a standout choice in the world of adult colouring books. Whether for personal use or as a gift, this book is sure to provide countless hours of enjoyment and artistic fulfilment.

Is there a real reason in the comics for Varric suddenly having brown hair? (I'm not against it, I'm just trying to find out if the redesign has a deeper meaning apart from him getting older.)
No one in universe commented on it, as far as I can recall (and I reread it earlier this week so I oughta recall, but I am also stupid). I personally just think the artist/colourist messed up somewhere or wasn't given clear guidelines, especially since it's fairly easy to find other depictions of him where his hair strays brown. These are both very far up on google:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most comics are coloured by someone who's not the sketch and line artist(s). The Missing was coloured by Michael Atiyeh, who mostly seems to colour extended universe comics for Dark Horse and the occasional lone big two issue. And he happens to have said this during an interview with a Star Wars blog in 2012:
Tumblr media
So, you know, might have something to do with that. Especially since it's about four or five different brown tones over four issues.

X-Men First Class (Vol 2) 10 (May 2008)
Jeff Parker/Craig Rousseau
This issue...the X-Men have the shits!
Tumblr media
This is the deeply unnecessary set-up for a Cyclops solo issue. The team are apparently just back from a job in Mexico where only Scott was sensible enough to not drink the local water, so...yeah. Charming. We also have another new artist on this title, Craig Rousseau, who I think is really interesting: he maintains the spiky 00s style but softens it with the watercoloury tones (credit due also to the colourist, Emily Warren).
Tumblr media
As far as story goes there's not much to it: Scott is hunting reports of a mutant, and a series of linked abductions, in a depressed West Virginia mining town. It's a very X-Files-y X-Men issue: the upshot is that there's a deformed super-strong mutant out there attacking the people who mocked him as a kid.
Tumblr media
He has them all tied up in a mine where Scott fights him, causing a cave-in that kills him.
Tumblr media
There's a cynicism to this issue that I find really depressing: the ostensible theme is "wow this deformed mutant isn't so different from me" but then he conveniently dies in the classic "oops, cave-in [that I totally caused]" so Scott doesn't actually have to reckon with any of this stuff. Nor, despite all the set-up, is there any particular reason why it's Scott: if anything the themes here would have been more interesting with Hank. Ah well.

Transformers: Mosaic - Transformers Animated
Originally posted on June 6th, 2008
"See you in August" - Waseem Bashar "Excited yet?" - Matt C. Adams
TFW2005 (announcement) | TFW2005 (update) | BotTalk
wada sez: Surprise, we’re back doing another event already! Prompted by the success of The End of the Beginning..., the Mosaic team decided to follow up with another event, this time themed around the fan-favourite Transformers Animated, coinciding with the conclusion of the cartoon’s second season. This event was deliberately more constrained, however, limiting the strips’ focus to a set list of characters. Perhaps due to these restrictions, or simply the tastes of typical Mosaic contributors, response was less enthusiastic, leading the deadline to be pushed back. Eighteen characters were suggested, and twenty-one strips were made; as with the previous event, they were posted on Mondays in batches of five or so, and thankfully this time the ordering was handled consistently. Of the suggested characters, only Blitzwing failed to receive a spotlight. Meanwhile, regular strips continued twice-weekly, though the submission guidelines changed: no longer did the Mosaic staff maintain a central “script pool”; instead, they only accepted submissions from people who already had a full creative team. Bashar’s preview here includes an unfamiliar design or two; these are actually character models for the strips he worked on. Now, readers, you’ll have to bear with me over the next few weeks, as it’s been years since I watched any Animated—so if you spot any errors in my annotations, please correct me! I’ve mirrored Josh van Reyk’s announcement for this event below the break, along with unobscured looks at Matt C. Adams’ Ultra Magnus art. Adams was apparently slated to draw an Ultra Magnus strip called “The Hammer Falls”, written by Mike Priest, presumably for this specific event; I’ve dug up the original script for it, but evidently it never came to fruition.

TRANSFORMERS MOSAIC REBOOT…
Well, sort of.
As the project quickly approaches its first birthday in June, the project team have decided it’s the perfect time to re-asses the project and how it runs.
Since its conception last year, the project has grown well beyond our initial plans / hopes, and now there are over 400 people involved with well over 250 pieces in various stages of construction.
These staggering statistics make it nigh on impossible to keep in touch with every member and keep things on track for all the pieces in production, and many people feeling concerned that their piece has fallen off the radar.
The Megatron Origin-based anniversary project has proven to be very successful, with the creative teams being set in place before work begins on a piece and all follow-up being performed each member of the creative team. This has kept things well on track for each piece. Also, we’ve found that specifying a specific theme/setting has really forced everyone to lift their game so to speak and has produced some simply amazing pieces of work.
Further to the issue, with 6 pieces being released per week (to combat the large backlog), we’re not pleased with the small amount of “air time” that each piece receives, as some do tend to get overlooked.
So what does all that mean?
Well, as of June 2008, we will no longer be accepting any scripts from anyone for regular mosaics and there will no longer be a “script pool” for artists to pick from. All Mosaics currently in production will still continue to be a part of the project and will be released as usual, though our plans are to cut down to releasing one piece per week, on Thursdays.
For any writer / artist / colourist wishing to work on a regular Mosaic, they will be required to organize the full creative team before work can begin. Scripts will need to be submitted to the Transformers Mosaic team for approval. The best way to gather up a creative team would be to send a call out on the IDW forums in the “Transformers Mosaic: Discussion” thread, or any of the other sites where Mosaics are posted.
Once we have been approached by a committed creative team, we will supply them with a (currently in progress) Transformers Mosaic Style Guide. This will be a .ZIP file that will contain a standardized TFM logo, layout templates/guides and lettering fonts.
The Anniversary pieces, which were originally intended to be posted all at once, will now be released 10 at a time, every Monday for 4 weeks, stating 7th of June.
For the whole month of July, Transformers Mosaic will be on holiday, so no Mosaics of any sort will be posted during this time and emails / queries will likely not be handled promptly.
After July, regular Mosaics will continue to be posted one every Thursday and to fill the gap on Mondays left by the Anniversary project, we will be running a similar project, but this one is to be set during the new Transformers Animated cartoon. The one downside we found from the anniversary project was that the theme was too “open” and resulted in more pieces than we had planned for, so we’re limiting the number of characters / pieces to be included in the project.
The following characters are to be included in the project;
DECEPTICONS: 1. Megatron 2. Lugnut 3. Blitzwing [claimed] 4. Starscream [claimed] 5. BlackArachnia 6. Lockdown (yeah, technically he’s not a Con, but…)
AUTOBOTS: 1. Optimus Prime 2. Prowl 3. Bulkhead 4. Ratchet 5. Ultra Magnus 6. Sentinel Prime 7. Jazz 8. Bumblebee
DINOBOTS: 1. Grimlock
HUMANS: 1. Sari Sumdac 2. Isaac Sumdac
The same rules will apply for this project as the Anniversary one, though each person may only be involved in one (1) piece, and each piece may only focus on one (1) character from the above list, though multiple characters may appear in one piece. It will be first come, first choice with character assignments. You cannot claim a character until your creative team is assembled and committed.
When you have a creative team lined up, email us at [email protected]. We will base character dibs on receipt time of emails sent to this address ONLY. We will update the above list for availability as often as possible until all slots are taken. If you miss your first choice, re-submit a message for your next choice and so on.
The Transformers Mosaic team will reserve the right to edit / reject scripts at their discretion.
All scripts, listing FULL creative team must be submitted to [email protected] by 30th of June, 2007.
Concerned you might miss out on getting involved in this project? Well, we’re planning on making these projects and ongoing process, so there’s always next time. ;)  Also keep in mind that you can still submit regular mosaics if your creative team would still like to work on a TFA piece.
We understand that these new processes may seem unfair to some people, but the project is just getting too sprawled out to manage, and we feel this is the best way to keep things moving smoothly.
We look forward to the next phase of Transformers Mosaic! Huge round of applause to everyone who made it the first year so amazing!

8, 10, 15 for the book asks?
8. First book i remember reading myself
The Cat in the Hat!!!! First one i read aloud without any help ✨️ First book I remember reading without speaking though was a little pink hardcover about Journalist Barbie
10. Do i have a guilty fave?
Oooh hard to say, since I try not to feel guilty about anything I enjoy.... but i might actually say Carry On? I'm still super attached to it bc it's the first Gay Book i've ever owned in print, I loved it when it came out and I even reread it at the start of the pandemic, BUT i don't find I really connect with that author's other writing anymore, and I was disappointed with the sequel despite it being an insta-buy - haven't even bothered with the 3rd book. But despite all that and despite the fact that the 1st book hinges on cultural knowledge of h*rry p*tter, I still consider Carry On one of my comfort reads.
15. Recommend and review a book
Ooooh okay so the most recent book I read was the comic Proctor Valley Road! It's one volume, collecting all 5 issues, and it's created by what I consider an absolute DREAM TEAM - Grant Morisson, whose previous writing credits include Doom Patrol (1988); Naomi Franquiz, an expressive cartoony artist whose work I've seen previously in Boom Studios' Misfit City and also the Hayley Kyoko comic; and colourist Tamra Bonvillain, a prolific colourist whose work i previously know from Gerard Way's Doom Patrol (2016)! It's also cowritten by screenwriter Alex Child.
Proctor Valley Road follows 4 teenage girls in the 1970's attempting to scam their way into getting money for Janis Joplin tickets. But when 3 boys from their class go missing after the girls took them on a "spook tour" of the extremely haunted road outside their town, it's up to August, Rylee, Jennie and Cora to find and save them - before the town falsely accuses them of murder. Also so they can try swing that 15 bucks.
The characters are so well written, and even when they're butting heads, they actually feel like real friends? The series really takes time to develop each character's personality and day-to-day life, while still being really tightly written in its horror-fantasy-mystery narrative. I was really invested in them! Franquiz also brings such a human element with her illustrative artstyle and organic linework, I always love the way she draws!! And Tamra Bonvillain is always killing it with her very warm and tastefully bright colour palettes!
It was actually recommended to me by my friend Sammie, who was EXTREMELY on the money that I'd enjoy it, I love the Weird Teenage Girls Go On Adventures genre lol! And it's exactly at my level of comfort/tolerance for horror, leaning more towards Fantasy Horror. It's so fun!

Paolo Manuel Rivera is an American comic book artist. He is known for illustrating the Mythos series of one-shots and several issues of Spider-Man as well as his collaboration with writer Mark Waid, his father/inker Joe Rivera and colourist Javier Rodríguez on Daredevil. Although gaining acclaim and recognition through his early fully painted works, he has since moved on to more traditional comics process of pencilling, inking, and colouring (with some occasional sculpting).
Paolo works by hand which is very different from digital art which is my chosen media to works in however i also use traditional medias occasionally as well and i find that digital art is easier and very if not the most forgiving media to work in, its not a simple medium but if you mess up in digital its easy to fix or cover.

EXHIBITION OF LARISSA NOURY’S PAINTINGS AT 69TH SALON DE CHARENTON, FRANCE
Larissa Noury at the 69th Salon de Charenton which opened its doors at the Espace Art et Liberté  from January 26 to February 18, 2023.
Art does not want the representation of a beautiful thing but the beautiful representation of a thing -- Immanuel Kant.
“Exhibitions and art fairs are very important for a wide audience to appreciate the beauty of modern creations and beautiful representations of different artistic techniques and approaches. An unmissable annual event, the Salon de Charenton has been for many years an opportunity to take an overview of local and regional creation in its diversity. During its inauguration, more than 500 people, guests and artists, had the pleasure of discovering the works selected for the exhibition which takes place in a large space and which aims to raise public awareness of contemporary creation. This unique and bright place presents under the direction of Mr Frédéric Mette exhibitions on various themes,” says renowned artist Larissa Noury.
The annual Salon introduces visitors and art lovers to all the techniques of painting, engraving, photography, drawing, mixed media and sculpture.
“This time, the originality of the Salon is the choice of its painters. They are great colourists who practice “abstract landscapes that navigate between meditative interior space and the free transport of a natural spectacle”. Their large formats bring color and matter into dialogue with strength and sensuality; this is the Universe of lyrical abstraction at the limit of figuration. Their works are original: the diversity and eclecticism of the ensemble promotes an easy and uninhibited approach to art,” artist Larissa Noury shares her experience of the show.
Larissa Noury’s painting “Beyond Time” attracted special attention from the public. Many appreciated the unique technique of the artist  ‘portraying the harmonies of colors transmitting all the energy of Nature’, ‘the universe of soothing dreams’, ‘the distant light of well-being, the warmth fragile, very human and poetic at the same time’.   And again:  ‘Subtle and dazzling painting, a very personal universe, a great interiority with great simplicity.

Is it just me or does Exodus's color tracking keep getting worse and worse? Like the colourist kept switching between shades of red, purple and orange even if the light conditions are the same? I noticed that at the start of Krakoa but I thought it got fixed...
Well, to be fair to them, Bennet's always been pretty inconsistent in that regard. My mutual did a post breaking down some of it recently.
The lighting thing is weird bc recently they've leaned into a purple-ish pink to represent telepathy/telekinesis for most characters, so he's going to reflect pink more than if his powers are represented with yellow (which is more classic for him).
Not that it's relevant to your ask really, but bc I was recently reading his appearence in 1991 xforce #25, I feel its worth pointing out that I don't think all the artists in this period had a concrete idea of whether he was supposed to have red/pink/whatever skin or not.
Like. Ok so here's Bennet:

Reddish pink, yeah? But now here's Warpath in the same issue:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And boy howdy is this racist. But like, Warpath is also drawn with inconsistent and unnatural looking colouring. And he looks like that bc the artists are trying and failing hard to depict a guy who isn't white.
So, it's possible that those same artists where doing the same thing with Bennet here. That is, they're not trying to depict a technicolor wacky mutant skin tone, but rather trying and failing to draw a man of colour.
Tumblr media
I mean they are literally the same colour.
So, maybe the xforce artists were told "red skin" and just went in the same old racist direction they were used to. Or, alternatively, the character was not originally intended to have literally red skin at all, and he was just supposed to not be white. I have genuinely no idea which is the case but I thought it was interesting.
Anyway that was a tangent.
Personally, I like a deep purple-ish red on him, and I would prefer to see that become the norm. I agree it's not been consistent at all recently, but I would add that this is not remotely a new thing with him.
