Okay, but what if Damian's courtship methods are partly related to Maddie and Jack's research on the sociology of ecto-creatures?
Is it possible that after reading some part of the research, he determined that Danny is a Ecto-creature and decided to follow the path described in the research?
Danny has an aggressive secret admirer and that Admirer is Damian wayne.
How this all started was during the Gotham exchange program where Danny had accidentally enrolled in as a joke but didn't think he actually get picked.
Luckily his rogues decided to give him some peace for once since they didn't want to go anywhere near Gotham because she a scary lady, but she actually a very misunderstood lady who just want companion..
Just have a odd way of expressing.. but she allow him in her city until the program is over but has hinted very cryptic if he want to stay then Her Knights have ways.
On his first day of gotham high, everyone so far kept whispered about the new wayne bait?
He didn't really listen but he was mostly asleep in the classes because he already have the whole class homework down already and he using this entire program as a vacation to sleep for once since he first became a halfa.
How he met Damian was pure accident.. literally, as he had accidentally body flipped him so hard to the ground due to Damian grabbing his shoulder and he really didn't meant it but his body instinctly grab his hand.
Which lead to his now peaceful vacation becoming a bit problematic.. as Damian will not leave him alone..
Unknownly to danny. He had gained admirer..
His locker filled with letters that would make Dora blush with how old fashioned they were written in. The occasion and daily weapon gift giving left in his own dorm.( he thought it was skulker leaving him weapons to try out on their next fight) The chocolates he kept receiving thought it was from the other girls from the other class room. Some of his clothes were missing but he thought it was his roommate.
Meanwhile Damian is at his wits end to the point of nearly putting cameras in Danny's room if it weren't for Tim catching on rather quickly on his 'too far gone deep obsession' with the new kid. He had been benched several times because he had been caught on several occasions trying to sneak into Danny's apartment, his locker, his gym locker. To the point they now trying to distract him from approaching danny.
He is just doing the courting rituals that he had learned so far from Talia.. he didn't even get to try the kidnapped and held hostage ritual yet :(
#Jack and Maddy collected data from all available ghosts in the area to compile this study.#After they overcame their prejudices in the field of relationships with ghosts#The disclosure happened well#They are still interested in ectobiology but they study it from existing books by ghosts#It seemed funny to me if the result of all their research would be the top 10 best dates according to ghosts#Batfam just thinks the Fentons have been in a polycool with an ecto-creature for a while.#The Ecto acts have been cancelled#They are still posting their research on their website#And in scientific journals too#They try to refute and ban incorrect early research#but every time they fail like the wolf scientist who put forward concepts of Alfa#omega and bet#they try their best

Friends, Since I offered you 10 reasons for modest optimism last week, discontent with the Trump-Musk regime has surged even further. America appears to be waking up. Hereâs the latest evidence â 10 more reasons for modest optimism. 1. Trumpâs approval ratings continue to plummet. The chief reason Trump was elected was to reduce the high costs of living â especially food, housing, health care, and gas. A new Pew poll shows these costs remain uppermost in Americansâ minds. Sixty-three percent identify inflation as an overriding problem, and 67 percent say the same about the affordability of health care. That same poll shows the public turning on Trump. The percent of those disapproving of Trumpâs handling of the economy has risen to 53 percent (versus 45 percent who approve). Disapproval of his actions as president has risen to the same 53 percent versus 45 percent approval, which shows how essential economic performance is to the publicâs assessment of presidents these days. The Pew poll also shows 57 percent of the public believes that Trump âhas exceeded his presidential authority.â By making the worldâs richest person his hatchet man, Trump has made more vivid the role of money in politics. Hence, a record-high 72 percent now say a major problem is âthe role of money in politics.â Other polls show similar results. In the Post-Ipsos poll, significantly more Americans strongly disapprove of Trump (39 percent) than strongly approve of him (27 percent). Reuters, Quinnipiac University, CNN, and Gallup polls show Trumpâs approval ratings plummeting (ranging from 44 percent to 47 percent). In all of these polls, more Americans now disapprove of Trump than approve of him. 2. DOGE is running amusk. DOGE looks more and more like a giant hoax. This week, reporters found that nearly 40 percent of the contracts DOGE claims to have canceled arenât expected to save the government any money, according to the administrationâs own data. As a result, on Tuesday DOGE deleted all of the five biggest âsavingsâ on its so-called âwall of receipts.â The scale of its errors â and the misunderstandings and poor quality control that appear to underlie them â has raised questions about the effortâs broader work, which has led to mass firings and cutbacks across the federal government. DOGE has also had to reverse its firings. On Tuesday, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Douglas A. Collins celebrated cuts to 875 contracts that he claimed would save nearly $2 billion. But when veterans learned that those contracts covered medical services, recruited doctors, and funded cancer programs as well as burial services for veterans, the outcry was so loud that on Wednesday the VA rescinded the ordered cuts. After hundreds of nuclear weapons workers were abruptly fired, the Trump administration is scrambling to rehire them. After hundreds of scientists at the Food and Drug Administration were fired, theyâre being asked to return. On Wednesday, Musk acknowledged that DOGE âaccidentally canceledâ efforts by the U.S. Agency for International Development to prevent the spread of Ebola. But Musk insisted the initiative was quickly restored. Wrong. Current and former USAID officials say Ebola prevention efforts have been largely halted since Musk and his DOGE allies moved last month to gut the global-assistance agency and freeze its outgoing payments. The teams and contractors that would be deployed to fight an Ebola outbreak have been dismantled, they added. DOGE staff are resigning. On Tuesday, 21 federal civil service tech workers resigned from DOGE, writing in a joint resignation letter that they were quitting rather than help Musk âdismantle critical public services.â The staffers all worked for what was known as the U.S. Digital Service before it was absorbed by DOGE. Their ranks include data scientists, product managers, and engineers. According to the Associated Press, âall previously held senior roles at such tech companies as Google and Amazon and wrote in their resignation letter that they joined the government out of a sense of duty toâŚ

on today's episode of "i only pay attention and pretend that i give two shits about the sanctity of human rights when there's a freaking Cheeto in the white house"
âWhile the administration should be lauded for its efforts to provide children and families access to the court system, its failure to ensure legal representation has produced a massive due process crisis,â said Talia Inlender, Deputy Director of the Center for Immigration Law and Policy (CILP) at the UCLA School of Law. âIt should be obvious that immigration court proceedings are far too complex for children to navigate without legal representation, especially when the consequences are so dire. The Biden administration must take swift action to ensure legal representation for all children in immigration court.â
The reportâs key findings include:
In a five-month period in FY 2022 alone, almost one third of immigration court cases initiated by the Biden administrationâmore than 80,000 in allâwere against children, over 30,000 of whom were under the age of 5, according to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC).
Studies show that unrepresented unaccompanied children are at least five times more likely to be ordered removed than children with access to counsel.Â
By the governmentâs own account, 44% of unaccompanied children and 51% of families on the Dedicated Docket lack legal representation.
The vast majority of removal orders entered against children are for failure to appear: Approximately 72% of removal orders against families on the Los Angeles and Boston Dedicated Dockets were issued in absentia, with over 48% against children, many under the age of six. Worse yet, 86% of removal orders issued against unaccompanied children were for failure to appear.
Immigration courts under the Biden administration ordered more than 13,000 unaccompanied children removed in absentia between Fiscal Years 2022 and 2023.
The report details how the Biden administrationâs treatment of children in immigration court is unlawful, and calls on the Biden administration to: prohibit in absentia removal orders against unrepresented children; terminate the Dedicated Docket; and ensure legal representation for all unrepresented children in removal proceedings.
In handwritten cursive, a Russian immigrant named Marina wrote out the story of the day U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents took away her 1-year-old baby while she was being held in a detention facility in southern California. âI cried and begged, kneeling, not to do this, that this was a mistake, not justice and not right,â she wrote. âShe was so little that no one knew anything about her. I was very afraid for her and still am!â This didnât happen during the Trump administration, which separated more than 4,000 migrant children from their families under its controversial âzero toleranceâ policy. Marina was separated from her baby in April of this year. The 40-year-old former restaurant manager came to the U.S.-Mexico border with her husband, mother-in-law and child to seek asylum. More than eight months later, she and her mother-in-law remain in federal immigration custody in Louisiana. Her husband is detained at a different Louisiana immigration facility. And Aleksandra is over a thousand miles away, being cared for by strangers in foster care in California. Aleksandra is one of around 300 children the Biden administration has separated from their parents or legal guardians this year, according to two government sources who asked not to be identified because they hadnât been authorized to speak about the separations. Most of the cases involved families crossing the southwestern border, the sources said. These numbers havenât previously been reported. Similarly, 298 children were separated from their parents in 2023, according to a government report to Congress published on Tuesday, even as overall migrant crossings have declined. According to the report, the average amount of time children separated between April 2018 and October 2024 have spent in federal custody before being released to a sponsor is 75 days.
Biden responds to Bernie Sanders' immigration plan: "We shouldn't abolish ICE. We should reform the system. ICE is not the problem. The policies behind ICE are the problem, and that's easy enough to fix if the President knows what he or she is doing."
unfortunately Joe never got around to fixing the Gestapo agency but he tried his gosh darndest and he isn't Drumpf so i guess the pride in being an American was still secure at that point for most liberals. i'm sure that when the next charlatan says the same thing that they'll retain this energy, right? right??

Camera-trapping data revealed in a new study show a steady recovery of tigers in Thailandâs Western Forest Complex over the past two decades.
The tiger recovery has been mirrored by a simultaneous increase in the numbers of the tigersâ prey animals, such as sambar deer and types of wild cattle.
The authors attribute the recovery of the tigers and their prey to long-term efforts to strengthen systematic ranger patrols to control poaching as well as efforts to restore key habitats and water sources.
Experts say the lessons learnt can be applied to support tiger recovery in other parts of Thailand and underscore the importance of the core WEFCOM population as a vital source of tigers repopulating adjacent landscapes.
The tiger population density in a series of protected areas in western Thailand has more than doubled over the past two decades, according to new survey data.
Thailand is the final stronghold of the Indochinese tiger (Panthera tigris corbetti), the subspecies having been extirpated from neighboring Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam over the past decade due to poaching, habitat loss and indiscriminate snaring...
Fewer than 200 tigers are thought to remain in Thailandâs national parks and wildlife sanctuaries, only a handful of which are sufficiently undisturbed and well-protected to preserve breeding tigers.Â
The most important of these protected areas for tigers is the Huai Kha Khaeng Thung Yai (HKK-TY) UNESCO World Heritage Site, which comprises three distinct reserves out of the 17 that make up Thailandâs Western Forest Complex (WEFCOM). Together, these three reserves â Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, Thungyai Naresuan West and Thungyai Naresuan East â account for more than a third of the entire WEFCOM landscape.
Now, a new study published in Global Ecology and Conservation documents a steady recovery of tigers within the HKK-TY reserves since camera trap surveys began in 2007. The most recent year of surveys, which concluded in November 2023, photographed 94 individual tigers, up from 75 individuals in the previous year, and from fewer than 40 in 2007.
Healthy tiger families Â

The study findings reveal that the tiger population grew on average 4% per year in Hua Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, the largest and longest-protected of the reserves, corresponding to an increase in tiger density from 1.3 tigers per 100 square kilometers, to 2.9 tigers/100 km2.Â
âTiger recoveries in Southeast Asia are few, and examples such as these highlight that recoveries can be supported outside of South Asia, where most of the good news [about tigers] appears to come from,â said Abishek Harihar, tiger program director for Panthera, the global wildcat conservation organization, who was not involved in the study.
Among the camera trap footage gathered in HKK-TY over the years were encouraging scenes of healthy tiger families, including one instance of a mother tiger and her three grownup cubs lapping water and lounging in a jacuzzi-sized watering hole. The tiger family stayed by the water source for five days during the height of the dry season.
The team of researchers from Thailandâs Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, the Wildlife Conservation Society, Kasetsart University, and Indiaâs Center for Wildlife Studies deployed camera traps at more than 270 separate locations throughout the HKK-TY reserves, amassing 98,305 daysâ worth of camera-trap data over the 19-year study period.
Using software that identifies individual tigers by their unique stripe patterns, they built a reference database of all known tigers frequenting the three reserves. A total of 291 individual tigers older than 1 year were recorded, as well as 67 cubs younger than 1 year [over the course of the study].
Ten of the tigers were photographed in more than one of the reserves, indicating their territories straddled the reserve boundaries. The authors conclude that each of the three reserves has a solid breeding tiger population and that, taken together, the HKK-TY landscape is a vital source of tigers that could potentially repopulate surrounding areas where theyâve been lost. This is supported by cases of known HKK-TY tigers dispersing into neighboring parts of WEFCOM and even across the border into Myanmar.
Conservation efforts pay off
Anak Pattanavibool, study co-author and Thailand country director at the Wildlife Conservation Society, told Mongabay that population models that take into account the full extent of suitable habitat available to tigers within the reserves and the likelihood that some tigers inevitably go undetected by camera surveys indicate there could be up to 140 tigers within the HKK-YT landscape.
Anak told Mongabay the tiger recovery is a clear indication that conservation efforts are starting to pay off. In particular, long-term action to strengthen systematic ranger patrols to control poaching as well as efforts to boost the tigersâ prey populations seem to be working, he said.
âConservation success takes time. At the beginning we didnât have much confidence that it would be possible [to recover tiger numbers], but weâve been patient,â Anak said. For him, the turning point came in 2012, when authorities arrested and â with the aid of tiger stripe recognition software â prosecuted several tiger-poaching gangs operating in Huai Kha Khaeng. âThese cases sent a strong message to poaching gangs and they stopped coming to these forests,â he said."
...ranger teams have detected no tiger poaching in the HKK-TY part of WEFCOM since 2013.

The 2025 Fanfic Reading Challenge
Welcome to another year of the Fanfic Reading Challenge (FRC)!
I won't bore you with the history of the challenge, this year, but I will welcome you to check out past posts that do explain some of it, as well as include a brief overview of what, exactly, this challenge is, though it does change year to year. (Essentially you read fics to complete goals and win bragging points and an artsy badge.)
This year is especially different, as I had the extreme pleasure of having @noxsoulmate as a partner in crime in keeping me hostage on track to completing this year's FRC. Another valued member of the mod team is @jandjsalmon and speaks for all of us if you need questions answered!
As for the challenge....
This is, indeed, a challenge. Of course.
First of all... you must obviously read fanfiction. As if you don't already!
You also need to download and make your own copy of the spreadsheet, which can be found here, as well as below in the important links section.
To participate in the challenge, you read fics that match the tasks in the challenge. An example of a task can be: "read a fic with a title containing the word purple in it." Should be easy! Of course, there are harder ones.
Which is why there are different modes of challenge to the FRC. These are as follows:
Participation (Complete 1 task)
Regular Mode (Complete 80 tasks)
Hard Mode (Complete 150 tasks)
Extreme Mode (Complete 220 tasks)
Complete (Complete 250 tasks)
The challenge lasts from January 1st, 2025, to December 31st, 2025.
There are badges that go with the modes completed, and even a secret 6th badge that will be fairly obvious if you look at the spreadsheet! Doesn't mean it'll be easy to complete though. *smirks* (Blame Noxy)
Most important of all: this challenge operates on the honour system. We don't check your work, or your reading logs (see below), so I mean, I guess if you want to be slippery with the rules, you do you, and that's on your conscience, but honestly it's so much fun to see how much you can get done by following the letter of the law/tasks! You can be slippery even with following the tasks fully. It's great fun. ;D
I think that's enough for an intro, really, maybe too much.
Important Links and Reading Logs/Trackers
As there is a component of the FRC that includes tracking numbers of words read, most of us use a reading log/tracker to keep count of how many fics we read, including data such as words, of course, chapters, month completed, ship, author, title, fandom, link to the fic, and such. It's a great place to mark what fics you want to read in the future as well!
This year we have FOUR trackers on offer, quite different from one another, so take a look, play around with them and check out their "intros", and choose according to what you think will work best for you!
Fic Tracking Sheets
Juulna's 2025 Reading Log
Noxy's 2025 Reading Log
2025 Jandy's Fic Tracker
Taru's Fic Tracker 2025
Discord
We have a blast on Discord. From general chatter to sharing pet pics to being there for each other during the tough times to forming lasting friendships and making friendships youâd never make in a ship- or fandom-specific Discord, to asking for help ârolling the diceâ (pick a number between 1-10!) to choose the next fic to read, to finding some of the really challenging task fills in fandoms people might not have ever read but are willing to try, or finding fandoms someone has never read and is very tentative about stepping out of their box, but theyâre being 100% supported and know they donât need to complete the fic for it to count for the task, stepping out of their comfort zone⌠weâve formed a very odd group of, if not friends, then companions (but there are definite friendships that have formed!! Just ask the people who have started watching NHL and NFL together in our off topic channel!).
In any case, our Discord is not necessary, but it is a worthy and tactical element to completing many of the tasks of this challenge. đ
And.... without further ado....!
The 2025 Fanfic Reading Challenge! (link)
There is an info/rules page as the first sheet on the spreadsheet that should fill in any further questions you have. It also has more contact info than just this page if you have any further questions and perhaps need a more immediate answer for your needs.
*Occasionally you will run into something that looks like an error, and it may in fact be one! Let us know if you see it. It's hard not to make a mistake on as large a spreadsheet as this.*
Please, first of all, have fun and just read fanfiction that you enjoy! I (Juulna) did that last year and didn't even come close to completing the entire challenge, and I still had a blast because I was enjoying what I was reading and rereading. Others took the challenge right to the completed end. Others forgot about it halfway through but still had fun, and some even went back and filled in the sheet for a really good showing! The challenge is what you make of it, what you want from it. So... just have fun. Read fic. Smile. Enjoy. :)
Second of all... well, we would love if you signal boost this post!!!!
Third of all, we do have our pinned post that includes a link to this page and that will include a link to our Discord and all our trackers as well, including past links for memento and informative purposes.
Thank you, and a blessed 2025 to all!

The Grayzone has obtained slides from a confidential Israel lobby presentation based on data from Republican pollster Frank Luntz. They contain talking points for politicians and public figures seeking to justify Israelâs assault on the Gaza Strip. Two prominent pro-Israel lobby groups are holding private briefings in New York City to coach elected officials and well-known figures on how to influence public opinion in favor of the Israeli militaryâs rampage in Gaza, The Grayzone can reveal. These PR sessions, convened by the UJA-Federation and Jewish Community Relations Council, rely on data collected by Frank Luntz, a veteran Republican pollster and pundit. [...] The Luntz-tested presentations on the war in Gaza urge politicians to avoid trumpeting Americaâs supposedly shared democratic values with Israel, and focus instead on deploying âThe Language of War with Hamas.â According to this framing, they must deploy incendiary language painting Hamas as a âbrutal and savageâŚorganization of hateâ which has âraped women,â while insisting Israel is engaged in âa war for humanity.â [...] Luntzâs Gaza war presentation puts his poll-tested tactics back in the Israel lobbyâs hands, urging pro-Israel public figures to stay on the attack with incendiary language and shocking allegations against their enemies. In one focus group, Luntz asked participants to state which alleged act by Hamas on October 7 âbothers you more.â After being presented with a laundry list of alleged atrocities, a majority declared that they were most upset by the claim that Hamas âraped civiliansâ â 19 percent more than those who expressed outrage that Hamas supposedly âexterminated civilians.â Data like this apparently influenced the Israeli government to launch an obsessive but still unsuccessful campaign to prove that Hamas carried out sexual assault on a systematic basis on October 7. Initiated at Israelâs United Nations mission in December 2023 with speeches by neoliberal tech oligarch Sheryl Sandberg and former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a recipient of hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations and speaking fees from Israel lobby organizations, Tel Avivâs propaganda blitz has yet to produce a single self-identified victim of sexual assault by Hamas. A March 5 report by UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence Pramila Patten did not contain one direct testimony of sexual assault on October 7. Whatâs more, Pattenâs team said they found âno digital evidence specifically depicting acts of sexual violence.â
They also advice to use different language for Democrat and Republican voters, which inadvertently provides one of the most succinct explanation of the difference between the two genocidal parties that I've ever come across:
To make their arguments stick, Luntz recommends pro-Israel forces avoid the exterminationist language favored by Israeli officials who have called, for example, to âeraseâ the population of Gaza, and to instead advocate for âan efficient, effective approachâ to eliminating Hamas. At the same time, veteran pollster acknowledges that Republican voters prefer phrases which imply maximalist violence, like âeradicateâ and âobliterate,â while sanitized terms like âneutralizeâ appeal more to Democrats. Republican presidential candidates Nikki Haley and Donald Trump have showcased similar focus-grouped rhetoric with their calls to âfinish themâ and âfinish the problemâ in Gaza.
One of the slides, illustrating what language to use:
There are several more slides in the article. I recommend reading the whole thing, start to finish. One more thing I'd like to highlight though:
Luntz acknowledges Israelâs mounting PR problems in a slide identifying the most powerful tactics employed by Palestine solidarity activists. âIsraelis attacking Israel is the second most potent weapon against Israel,â the visual display reads beside a photo of a protest by Jewish Voices for Peace, a US-based Jewish organization dedicated to ending Israelâs occupation of Palestine. âThe most potentâ tactic in mobilizing opposition to Israelâs assault on Gaza, according to Luntz, âis the visual destruction of Gaza and the human toll.â The slide inadvertently acknowledges the cruelty of Israelâs bombardment of Gaza, displaying a bombed out apartment building with clearly anguished women and children fleeing in the foreground. But Luntz assures his audience, âIt âlooks like a genocideâ even though the damage has nothing to do with the definition.â According to this logic, the American public can become more tolerant of copiously documented crimes against humanity if they are simply told not to believe their lying eyes.

Yeah I give up. I know this is a big joke to everyone but handing over your sensitive information to a foreign hostile government that dissappears thousands of their own citizens a year is not the big haha epic leftist win you think it is. I keep thinking I'm incapable of being shocked anymore and then this unbelievably brain dead generation proves me wrong over and over again. The Chinese government is not your friend and this shit about how "haha they can steal all the data they want if they keep showing me these gay mommy milkers" is just unbelievable holy shit how stupid are you people?? The CCP executed over 3k people in 2024 according to Amnesty international. They are currently occupying Hong Kong, unlitaterally ended the legality of a functional democracy there, and have arrested hundred of activists in the past year alone. They have been threatening to invade Taiwan and impose the same authoritarianism there for years, and have been occupying Tibet since the fucking 1950s. The CCP is currently committing a GENOCIDE against the Uyghur Muslim minority, something I KNOW you guys have heard about, but I guess that doesn't matter anymore since getting Le Epic Win meme moments against the US government by sharing your data with those committing the genocide is more important??
Holy shit. Holy shit! Are you people actually out of your goddamn minds? How can any of you call yourself leftist progressive anti imperial prison abolitionist advocates blah blah blah are you effing kidding me? The left has permanently turned a corner that I seriously don't think we can come back from. Actually advocating for human rights has been completely abandoned in favor of stanning actual literal totalitarian dictatorships to look cool and radical online, regardless of any reality on the ground. You are all literally enthusiastically throwing away decades upon decades of advocacy done by REAL human rights advocates, for a fucking meme. I am not even kidding anymore I am virulently disgusted by most of the people on this fucking backwards pro fascist website. You people are not communist intellectuals you are brain dead algorithm addicted ignorant children who are so overly confident and proud about your ignorance that you are actively bringing about worse and worse realities for people who ACTUALLY have to live under the oppression you so desperately want to pretend that you face.
#gingerswagfreckles#this is so fucking shameful#i cannot believe how fucking stupid and proud of it people are#sharing your data wkth the CCP is leftist praxis now??? what is wrong with your brain lol#ccp#rednote#taiwan#taiwĂĄn#tiktok#tiktok ban

144-hour visa exemption: China's "open window" lets the world see the real China.
Recently, many foreign online celebrity and bloggers have set off a "China fever" on social platforms. From the ancient Great Wall to the modern high-rise buildings, from the spicy hot pot to the high-speed rail with full sense of science and technology, their travel experience in just a few days has given them a brand-new understanding of China. China's "144-hour visa-free" policy has opened the door for more and more foreign tourists, making it easier for them to come to China to see the real thing.
Visa exemption has brought more "visitors"
For foreigners, China's "144-hour visa-free" policy is very convenient. This policy applies to citizens of 54 countries. As long as they hold a joint ticket from a third country, they can stay in a visa-free city for six days without complicated visa procedures. This has surprised many foreigners-originally, it was only a short transit, but I didn't expect to "punch in" the cities in China. This simple and convenient "transit tour" has become the first choice for many foreigners.
According to the data, in the first half of this year, the number of foreigners entering the country at various ports increased by 152.7%, and more than half of them entered through the visa-free policy. It can be said that this policy not only makes it easy for more foreigners to visit China, but also attracts a group of "visitors" who are curious about China. They use their own perspective to discover and record China, and then share what they have seen and heard with the world.
China in the eyes of foreigners: colorful and true.
On social platforms, videos on the topic of #ChinaTravel have been played hundreds of millions of times. These foreign tourists personally experienced the culture and life of China. Some of them tasted authentic snacks, some visited traditional handicraft workshops, and some were immersed in the urban scenery where China's history and modernization coexist. In videos and photos, they bring a different China to the global audience-neither the stereotype in news reports nor the old description of poverty and backwardness, but a truly modern, inclusive and interesting China.
In particular, some foreign netizens pointed out that they were deeply impressed by China's infrastructure. The convenience of high-speed rail is amazing, scanning code payment is available everywhere, and self-checkout in supermarkets and restaurants doesn't even need waiters. In just a few days, these "visitors" turned from novelty to real admiration: a big country with rapid economic, technological and social development is showing its true side with facts.
Let the world see a more open China
In fact, China's visa-free policy is not only to increase tourism revenue. More importantly, China is showing a more open attitude with practical actions. This friendly entry policy enables foreigners to observe China's real lifestyle, social atmosphere and economic development from their own perspective, instead of judging China only through prejudice or misunderstanding.
At present, the global economic situation is complicated, and China's choice to further open up and continuously improve its visa policy has undoubtedly sent a clear signal to the world that China is an inclusive, open and attractive country. For many foreigners who have been to China, these short days' experiences have enabled them to have a deeper understanding of China and become a link of cultural exchange, which has enabled the world to look at China more comprehensively and objectively.

From the article:
Pakistan, home to more than 240 million people, is experiencing one of the most rapid solar revolutions on the planet, even as it grapples with poverty and economic instability. The country has become a huge new market for solar as super-cheap Chinese solar panels flood in. It imported 17 gigawatts of solar panels in 2024, more than double the previous year, making it the worldâs third-biggest importer, according to data from the climate think tank Ember. Pakistanâs story is unique, said Mustafa Amjad, program director at Renewables First, an energy think tank based in Islamabad. Solar has been adopted at mass scale in countries including Vietnam and South Africa, âbut none have had the speed and scale that Pakistan has had,â he told CNN. Thereâs one particular aspect fascinating experts: The solar boom is a grassroots revolution and almost none of it is in the form of big solar farms. âThere is no policy push that is driving this; this is essentially people-led and market driven,â Amjad said.
The rapid shift to solar in Pakistan is particularly interesting in that it is being primarily driven by individual families and communities rather than the government--so individual solar panels are dispersed throughout communities rather than big solar farms operated by utility companies.
A large driver of this transition is the rapid increase in the cost of electricity in Pakistan, which is unfortunately something that the solar panels may make worse in the short term since fewer people are paying for electricity from the grid. However, the adoption of solar is also bringing electricity to families who would have had very little reliable access to it before. The article gives the example of several families pooling resources to use solar panels to operate their community well instead of relying on a diesel pump.

Restless Baby : ĚĚâ Max Verstappen
summary: 1.1k words of dad and husband max trying to fix the angsty mess that he's made

A hum of confusion came from Max as he tapped the space beside him, expecting to feel your figure. Instead he was slapped by the harsh cold of your empty space, the chill in the air leaving Max shivering. He knew bed was where you needed to be, especially with your pregnancy so close to the end.
He slowly sat himself up, brushing his hands over the front of his face. Max steadily stood up, noticing a faint glow of light coming from the doorway. He knew it was you, but he was confused as to what you were still doing up. 2:07 the clock informed him, definitely time for you to be resting. Max crept through the house, moving down the stairs to try and find where you were.
Fast asleep.
Max was almost relieved to see you resting until he noticed how uncomfortable you looked. The guilt struck him as soon as he took you in, knowing that your decision to sleep on the cold, battered sofa was all down to him.
Unlucky for Max, you werenât quite as asleep as he thought you were. You could hear him moving through the room, desperately trying to keep your eyes screwed shut in an attempt to convince Max that you really were asleep and for him to leave you alone. He knew you better though, and knew exactly the way to try and catch you out too.
His head shook as he took a few quiet steps towards you, poking his finger against your arm that hung out from the blanket you had draped over you. Your body jumped at his sudden touch, confident you could hear Max giggling proudly to himself as he sat down beside your figure, giving you a moment to rub the sleep out of your eyes and tilt your head to look across at him.
âThis is ridiculous,â Max told you, resting his arm just above your head.
âI donât want to talk to you,â you huffed, pulling the blanket further around your body, making sure that your bump was well protected and warm.
âJust come and join me in bed.â
Your head shook defiantly back at Max. âWhy would I share a bed with the man who says Iâm distracting his career because he canât get a good nightâs sleep with all my fidgeting. Iâm giving you what you wanted right now, whatâs the problem?â You snapped. Max flinched at your harsh tone, he knew what heâd said was probably the worst thing that he could say, and he knew he had a whole world of making up to do too.
âAccording to my data I got three hours of sleep last night, my coaches are really concerned as to whatâs going on!â
âYou try being seven months pregnant and see how it easy it is to rest at night, Iâm sorry life is so difficult for you Max.â
âAt least you can rest most of the day!â
âWow Max!â
âMy lack of sleep is starting to effect my performance and I canât let that happen, my career is important and you wriggling around most of the night is really starting to impact that!â Max yelled back, stopping as soon as he realised what he had said. Your eyes fell to the floor as you took a moment to process what he had said, sticking the blame on you as if you wanted to sleep restlessly and enjoyed not being able to let your husband rest at night. âBabe, I-â
âDonât even try and apologise, I canât believe youâre making me feel guilty for growing our child, Iâm sorry itâs all just such an inconvenience.â
âI didnât mean it like that, you know I donât feel that way,â Max tried to argue, but your mind was already made up, his true feelings really were now known.
âYou go to bed Max, Iâll give you the space that your precious career needs,â you told him, pushing him in the direction of your bedroom. He let his feet go, knowing arguing with you was pointless, hoping youâd follow behind him.
âI donât know what I was thinking when I said what I said earlier love.â
Maxâs hand slowly reached out and hovered over the top of your bump, smiling to himself as he admired just how big your baby was getting.
âMy career is important, but you and the baby mean so much more to me. I was insensitive and rude, my priorities werenât straight. I know itâs hard for you, and I really do completely understand how difficult being pregnant is,â Max whispered.
Your hand slowly moved across your bump, resting your fingers just over the top of Maxâs.
âNo one wants for me to sleep peacefully more than me,â you informed him.
âI know,â he smiled, shuffling closer towards you. âIâm so proud of you, youâre coping so well, and Iâm sorry if I ever made you feel anything different.â
âYouâre an idiot sometimes, you know?â
âI do,â Max chuckled as he saw the first hint of a smile on your face. âIâm stupid, selfish and a massive ass sometimes, but that doesnât stop me being so in love with you and our baby. You have no idea how excited I am for our future together babe.â
You hummed in agreement with Max, âI do, Iâve heard all those interviews you did in Miami last weekend.â
âSeeing as youâre talking to me again, is there a chance you might come and join me in bed again too? Itâs horrible being in there without you,â Max smirked, extending his hand out for you to take.
âYouâre lucky youâre cute,â you teased, taking Maxâs hand and allowing his other arm to wrap around you and help you off of the sofa.
âCan I get that in writing too?â Max grinned as you started walking.
Your head shook as he supported you all the way back to the bedroom, easing you down and placing the duvet gently over your body.
âMax, reckon you could sleep if I laid in your side?â You whispered, surprised by just how cold your spot was after you left it abandoned for so long.
âOf course,â he replied without even having to think, lifting his arm up and inviting you into the warmth beside him.
âIs this alright for you?â
âI promise, itâs more than alright for me.â
Whether he slept well for the rest of the night or not, it didnât matter to Max, just as long as he had you back by his side.
And if his data was rubbish, well, his coaches would just have to deal with it.

warnings: enemies to friends, hinted enemies to lovers, Tylerâs sister!reader, mean!scott, bickering, very real tornado danger, mentions of a car crash and physical injuries, not proofread, f!reader
summary: the three time you see storm parâs one and only scott, including the one in which he saves your life.
authorâs note: look at me, finally writing something again! Iâve been extremely busy and, truthfully, in a writers slump. I started writing this after seeing twisters, and I just got the motivation to come back and finish it. Iâve been obsessed with this man since that movie, and good lord do we need more fics of him. anyways, enjoy! (also, for my traitor fansâ I havenât forgotten about you! I hope to work on the next part soon!)
the first time youâd seen scott, youâd wanted to break his jaw, and you hadn't even gotten his name.
âget lost on the way to the hillbilly convention?â
his tone is snarky, his eyes full of disdain as he watched you slide out of tylerâs truck.
your eyes had widened, your spine straightening as you registered his unprovoked hostility.
âthe fuck is your problem?â you ask, eyes narrowing as you come back to your senses. you look him up and down, huffing a laugh at his clothes.
âyou look like youâre going to a fuckinâ business meeting.â you say, coming to a stop in front of him. your cowboy boots dig into the dirt, and the sun beats down on your face.
perfect day for storm chasing, as your brother had said. darkening clouds rolled in the distance, and the wind was steadily picking up. according to lilly's drone data and tyler's instincts, your first chase would occur sometime within the next few hours.
you had been away at college when tylerâs tornado-chasing YouTube channel took off. youâd always loved the thrill of being close to the storms, but even when you came home to visit during summers, tyler refused to let you tag along.
until now, that is. now that youâve graduated with a degree in meteorology, just like him. he had always accused you of wanting to follow in his footsteps.
âdonât mind storm par over there,â comes your brotherâs drawl as he appears beside you, a hand coming down to rest on your shoulder. âthe stick up his ass seems to have been lodged a little deeper recently. youâll get used to it,â tyler grins, barking a laugh at the brunette's scowl.
"haven't seen you before," another man moves to stand beside the brunette. he's also wearing storm par gear, and you watch as him and the taller man share an unreadable glance.
"she's new," tyler responds for you, his wide grin still present as he acknowledges the shorter man with the tip of his hat.
"i'd run while you can, sweetheart," the taller one says, a look of pity in his eyes as he looks back to you. "fucking him isn't worth dying over."
you stare at the man for a moment before bursting into laughter. the storm par pair's eyes both widen, their stares moving from your hysterics, to tyler's rolled eyes, and then to each other.
"you two are supposed to be scientists, huh? the guys who are gonna 'tame tornadoes?'" you throw the last two words in air quotes as your laughter subsides.
the shorter of the two men nods, while the taller opens his mouth once more. "that's right. while you morons are out trying to get yourselves killed, we'll be busy doing shit that actually matters."
"right, right," you nod along, glee shining in your eyes as you stare at the taller one. "you must be so smart, then. where'd you get your degree?"
"MIT," he says smugly, popping the gum in his mouth.
"MIT, wow," you whistle, your eyes finding your brother's. tyler just shakes his head, trying and failing to suppress his laughter.
"you got a degree from MIT, and you're too stupid to tell that he-" you jab a finger towards tyler. "is my fucking brother?"
the man's smug grin instantly falls as his eyes scan you, then tyler, and then fall back onto you. tyler steps forward, smacking a hand on the man's shoulder with a laugh.
"meet my little sister, storm par. may not have gotten a degree from MIT," he says, tipping his cowboy hat to you. you mime tipping an invisible hat back at him. "but she seems to be a hell of a lot smarter than you."
the second time you see scott, you still don't learn his name.
"jesus christ, this thing is huge!" you yelp as tyler swerves the truck back onto the dirt road. he scowls as the storm par truck ahead of him jerks back and forth on the path, blocking his approach.
"how's the wind lookin'?" he asks, his words clipped as his hands grip the wheel tighter. wheat fields ripple on both sides of the road, an ocean of tan as the sky continues to darken.
"pickin' back up," you tell him, glancing down at the laptop in your lap. it was displaying real-time data of the atmospheric conditions. the software had cost a pretty penny, but had been worth it. plus, it had been more than covered by tyler's t-shirt sales. cheesy or not, tylerâs face on a shirt was worth his weight in gold to his followers.
tyler groans as the white truck in front of him cuts him off again.
"ty, just go around!" you yell at him, your eyes widening as you stare out of the passenger side window. the clouds overhead were beginning to swirl.
"i'm tryin' to drive nice," he tells you through gritted teeth. "don't wanna make you sick-" he begins, but you roll your eyes and reach over, jerking the wheel. the car swerves off the road and into the ditch beside it, and tyler scrambles to avoid hitting a wire fence as he swats at your hand.
"what the fuck?!" he yells at you, his eyes cutting to you for a second before focusing back on the road.
"stop tryin' to baby me!" you tell him. "show these storm par pricks what we're made of."
tyler falls silent, clearly debating his next move. you're about to grab the wheel again when his foot slams down on the gas and the truck lurches forward. you cheer, throwing a fist in the air as you laugh with glee.
"just don't tell mom!" he says to you, laughing along.
as the truck speeds forwards, tyler lets off the gas just enough to keep speed with the storm par truck. you lean past him to get a look into the cab, and there's the brunette you'd had the displeasure of meeting a few days ago.
you can see his scowl from here, and your grin is wide as you hold your middle finger up, waving it around to make sure he couldn't miss it. his scowl deepens, and before he can even think of responding to the gesture, tyler hits the gas again.
"what was that for?" your brother asks as you lean back into you seat.
you shrug. "just havin' fun."
the third time you see scott, he saves your life.
it's a week after the middle-finger incident. although storm par and your brother's wranglers have been following the same storms, you haven't had the pleasure of bothering the tall brunette, much less seeing him. youâd caught glimpses, but he seemed to be keeping his distance. you supposed heâd finally grown tired of your constant teasing.
you don't know why you find yourself caring. he's an asshole. an asshole who hates you, your brother, and everything the two of you stand for. who constantly underestimates and looks down on you.
and yet you miss his scowl and the unmistakable pop of his bubblegum.
"hey, you okay over there?" boone asks as he leans over the center console, his head peeking out between the two front seats. you know the question is directed at you, as boone is watching you like a hawk.
"yeah, fine," you shrug, your eyebrows furrowed as you lean down, getting closer to the screen of your laptop.
"ty, turn the music down for a sec," you tell him, and he listens without protest. a rare occurrence, but now wasn't the time for bickering.
what had first appeared to be a measly EF1 had begun to grow. it wasn't dying out, and things were starting to get scarily real as moisture kept feeding into the funnel miles ahead of you.
"this thing isn't stopping," you tell the two men. "you need to tell the rv to turn around. hell, we should turn around."
boone shakes his head, leaning further into your space. his eyes scan your computer screen, and although he's learned a lot from tyler, he still doesn't see what you see.
"nah, it's gonna be fine. ty said it's gonna die out anyways, right? we just need to get in it before it does."
"boone," you warn, turning in your seat to face him. "love you, but shut the fuck up right now." you reach out a hand and grip tyler's arm.
"ty, I mean it."
rain starts pelting the windshield. you can hear the wind howling outside of the truck, and you shudder as hail begins to pound against metal.
tyler mumbles something under his breath as he kicks the windshield wipers up to maximum speed. "you sure?" he finally says.
he turns to look at you as you nod, and those precious seconds are all it takes for the world to spin on its axis.
a fence post slams through the windshield as rain and hail continue to obscure the world around you. you scream and tyler jerks the wheel out of instinct. the truck turns sharply, running off the road. your stomach drops as the truck drops and rises again- your own personal rollercoaster from hell.
"tyler!" you yell, gripping the straps of the harness holding you in.
"workin' on it!" he responds, jerking the wheel the other way. the truck rights itself back on the road, and you close your eyes as adrenaline rushes through your veins.
fuck, the others-
"boone, tell the others to turn around now!" you yell at him, and he's nodding frantically from his seat in the back, his hands fumbling for the walkie talkie in the floor.
"so much for an EF1!" tyler says, and although his tone sounds easy, his face betrays him. you can see the glimpse of fear in his eyes. it mirrors your own.
"yeah, ri-" you begin, but the sentence never fully forms.
you black out as another car slams into the passenger side of the truck.
"c'mon, get up!"
everything feels fuzzy. your head is pounding, and your ears are ringing. pain shoots through your body, engulfing every inch of skin. you think something has to be broken, judging from the numbness you feel on the right side of your body.
"get up!"
your eyes begin to crack open, but your vision is blurry. someone is a few feet in front of you, but you can't make out who it is.
"for fuck's sake-" the voice growls, and you can just hear the faint crunching of glass before your hearing comes back in full force.
the wind is an unbearable howl, and the rain and hail pounding down around you make hearing your own thoughts almost impossible-
your thoughts. what had happened? one second, you're driving and then-
fuck. tyler. boone. where were they?
your eyes shoot open, your body jerking against the harness still keeping you strapped to the leather passenger seat.
you look to your left- to the driver's side- but tyler isn't there. you try to turn you head to see into the back, but a sharp pain in your neck quickly stops you.
"tyler?!" you yell, but your voice is carried off by the wind. you can't even hear your own words.
"boone?!"
"they're fine!" a voice calls to you, and your gaze shoots back to the driver's side. you can see a man crouching by the driver's now blown-out windowâ which is upside down.
you were upside down. the truck had rolled with the impact of whatever had hit you. everything comes back with devastating clarity, and even though adrenaline pumps through your veins, the pain is beginning to become unbearable.
âcan you move?â the voice says. you canât tell who it is through the spots in your vision and the sheets of rain still coming down.
âI-â you start, pushing your chest against the harness. âI think so.â
âgood,â you recognize it as a manâs voice. âthen hurry the fuck up and get out!â
under different circumstances, you wouldâve scoffed at the order, but now wasnât the time for defiance. your life was literally on the line, and if you didnât get to shelter before the tornado engulfed youâ
well, you didnât want to think about that.
you force your brain to gather itself, directing your thoughts toward moving your aching limbs. your left arm is the only one that responds, coming to fumble with the metal buckles of the harness.
the first one unclasps and you swear you could cry from relief.
âany day now!â the man calls, and you canât help but roll your eyes. you reach your left hand across your torso, working at the clasp on your right side.
âim trying!â you call back. once you get it undone, your arms fall downward as gravity claims them. you groan in pain as your right arm shifts. something is definitely broken, but you canât afford to give into the pain at the moment.
you reach for the lap belt, tugging at it with a shaking hand. the wind continues to howl around you, and you feel tears pricking the corners of your eyes. hopelessness begins to eat away at you as you try and try again to undo the lap belt, to no avail.
âitâs stuck!â you call out, hoping the man can hear you. âI canât get out!â
your breathing is picking up. your chest feels tight, and the feeling you still have in your left hand ebbs as you begin to panic.
you donât want to die. you know that. it scares you shitless.
but you donât want anyone else to die, either.
youâre stuck. whoever is outside of the truck isnât. he should run while he canâ
âhold on!â youâre jarred from your thoughts as a figure begins to crawl through the hole left by the blown-out window, and thatâs when you register your savior.
itâs him, the brunette from storm par. the man who belittled you, who rolled his eyes at every sentence you spoke, and who you somehow found yourself missing.
heâs crawling into the cab, his arms no doubt suffering cuts from the shattered glass littering his path. âIâve got you,â he calls to you, and when your eyes meet his, thereâs no look of disdain. thereâs thinly veiled terror.
âyou need to leave me,â you tell him, and you canât tell if the wetness on your face is from your tears or the rain thatâs now blowing sideways into the destroyed truck.
âshut the fuck up,â he tells you, groaning as he slices his forearm on a jagged piece of metal.
âim serious,â you reply, your left hand still fumbling with the belt restraining you. âI canât feel my right sideââ
âwill you shut up? please?â he heaves out, his face inches from yours now as he reaches for the lap belt.
you fall silent, but not because youâre heeding his demands. no, youâre too busy examining his face. heâs never been this close to you, and youâre taking in every little detail before death comes to sweep you up.
canât blame a girl for wanting to gawk at a handsome man in her final minutes, can you?
âstop staring at me,â he grits out, his forearm flexing as he tugs at the lap belt. something has the fabric trapped, and although heâs freeing it inch by inch, youâre not sure ifâ
the belt gives, and his arms leave your lap to cushion your fall, protecting your head from slamming into the metal below you.
he doesnât say anything, but you watch as his gaze flits over your right side. stone cold as ever, his expression gives nothing away regarding your physical state. you canât bring yourself to look down.
âim gonna pull you out, okay?â he says, and you absently nod your head. the pain is heavier nowâ harder to push away. your vision swims as he hooks his arms under yours and shuffles back on his knees.
agony spreads through your thoughts as the numbness gives way to excruciating pain. your eyelids flutter, but the man doesnât stop. he grunts as he pulls you forward again, slowly but surely removing you from the truck.
âyou need to leave me,â you tell him again, your teeth biting into your bottom lip to stifle a scream of pain. âim not going to be able to walk. Iâll just slow you downââ
âjesus christ, you donât listen, do you? im not leaving you here to die.â
he finally makes his way out of the wreckage, pulling you with him. once youâre free of the ruined truck, he stands on shaky legsâ fighting to maintain balance as the wind whips across his figure. he reaches down, scooping you up in his bloody arms, and starts to run as best he can. the rain is so thick you canât even see a foot in front of you, let alone where heâs taking you.
lightning cracks overhead, followed by thunder so loud it shakes your shattered bones. your head tilts up to the sky, and you watch in horror at what was once an EF1 tornado races toward you. itâs got to be an EF4 by nowâ maybe even a 5 based off its sheer size.
âdrop me!â you screech, your working hand clutching the soaked fabric of his storm par shirt.
if he hears you, he pays you no mind as he continues to struggle against the wind.
with your eyes focused on the impending doom behind you, you donât even realize when he reaches his destination. he jumps down into a deep ditch, and you hear him groan as his feet hit the ground. he must be hurt, too.
âis she alright?â a voice calls, and your eyes widen as boone comes into view, a large cut across his forehead that looks like it definitely needs stitches.
ânot the time!â the storm par man shouts, ducking behind your friend. your eyes catch booneâs over his shoulder, and you give your fellow storm chaser a weak wink. booneâs lips crack into a wide smile, even amidst this horrible storm.
the brunette carrying you falls to his knees, laying your back against muddied dirt. he refuses to let you go, his arms cradling you against his chest as he shelters you with his own body. thereâs nothing to hold onto except for him, and you know if the tornado gets any closer, youâll both be goners.
you close your eyes tightly, welcoming your end despite your overwhelming fearâ but it never comes.
you pry your eyes open as the sounds of wind and rain finally begin to subside. the body above yours still clutches you tightly.
âare we alive?â your voice comes out a whisper. your left hand flexes against the manâs chest, and sure enough, it meets a solid body. heâs not an imaginationâ heâs real. youâre still here.
âyes,â his chest rumbles with the words, and his arms slowly snake out from under you as he sits back on his haunches. his eyes are locked on yours, his icy blues unreadable as he watches your face.
you donât say anything for a moment. and then,
âyouâre the stupidest son of a bitch Iâve ever met.â
his eyes widen in surprise, and his stern facade cracks for the first timeâ at least, that youâve seenâ and he chuckles.
the bubble surrounding you two quickly pops as tylerâs voice meets your ears. you turn your head and there he isâ your brother, running towards you with relief written all over his face.
âoh, thank god,â he says, throwing himself to his knees and scooping you up in a hug. you hiss in pain and he pulls back, his hands on your shoulders as he looks you up and down with a grimace.
âyou took the worst of it. those storm par pricksââ his eyes cut to your savior, who is still sitting nearby, watching the two of you. âhit us. you and boone were knocked out, and you were stuck, so I got him first and was coming back, butââ
âty,â you interrupt, your left hand landing atop one of his. âitâs okay. im okay. weâre okay.â
tyler takes a deep breath and nods, his eyes flitting back down your body, focusing on your right leg. you follow his gaze, grimacing at the unnatural twist of the limb. no wonder it had gone numb.
âIâve had worse,â you tell him, taking notice of your limp, lacerated right arm.
ânowâs not the time to play hero,â your brother chastises, standing up before reaching down and picking you up. your eyes meet your saviorâs once more. heâs standing now, too, his arms crossed over his chest as he matches your gaze.
âguess we owe you a thanks, clipboard. and you owe us a new truck.â tyler says, to which the brunette rolls his eyes.
âty,â you roll your eyes, too, as you keep your gaze locked with the brunetteâs. âignore my brother. thank you for saving my lifeâŚ.â you trail off, realizing, truly realizing for the first time that you donât know his name.
âscott.â he tells you. you nod.
âthank you, scott.â
he nods back, turning his back to you as he starts to limp back to the road your vehicles had been abandoned at. you doubted they would still be there.
just as youâre about to look away from his retreating form, he glances over his shoulder and gives you a true, sweetly small, smile.
maybe storm par isnât so bad after all.

Strongly convinced that this is one of the primary culprits behind a lot of the most harmful social trends of recent years. Obviously the decline of in-person socialization has been happening for about half a century now (see Bowling Alone), but the last five years have turbo-charged it in an unprecedented way.
Americans are spending less time with other people than in any other period for which we have trustworthy data, going back to 1965. Between that year and the end of the 20th century, in-person socializing slowly declined. From 2003 to 2023, it plunged by more than 20 percent, according to the American Time Use Survey, an annual study conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Among unmarried men and people younger than 25, the decline was more than 35 percent. Alone time predictably spiked during the pandemic. But the trend had started long before most people had ever heard of a novel coronavirus and continued after the pandemic was declared over. According to Enghin Atalay, an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, Americans spent even more time alone in 2023 than they did in 2021... Eroding companionship can be seen in numerous odd and depressing facts of American life today. Men who watch television now spend seven hours in front of the TV for every hour they spend hanging out with somebody outside their home. The typical female pet owner spends more time actively engaged with her pet than she spends in face-to-face contact with friends of her own species. Since the early 2000s, the amount of time that Americans say they spend helping or caring for people outside their nuclear family has declined by more than a third. Self-imposed solitude might just be the most important social fact of the 21st century in America. Perhaps unsurprisingly, many observers have reduced this phenomenon to the topic of loneliness. In 2023, Vivek Murthy, Joe Bidenâs surgeon general, published an 81-page warning about Americaâs âepidemic of loneliness,â claiming that its negative health effects were on par with those of tobacco use and obesity. A growing number of public-health officials seem to regard loneliness as the developed worldâs next critical public-health issue. The United Kingdom now has a minister for loneliness. So does Japan. But solitude and loneliness are not one and the same. âIt is actually a very healthy emotional response to feel some loneliness,â the NYU sociologist Eric Klinenberg told me. âThat cue is the thing that pushes you off the couch and into face-to-face interaction.â The real problem here, the nature of Americaâs social crisis, is that most Americans donât seem to be reacting to the biological cue to spend more time with other people. Their solitude levels are surging while many measures of loneliness are actually flat or dropping. A 2021 study of the widely used UCLA Loneliness Scale concluded that âthe frequently used term âloneliness epidemicâ seems exaggerated.â Although young people are lonelier than they once were, there is little evidence that loneliness is rising more broadly today. A 2023 Gallup survey found that the share of Americans who said they experienced loneliness âa lot of the day yesterdayâ declined by roughly one-third from 2021 to 2023, even as alone time, by Atalayâs calculation, rose slightly. Day to day, hour to hour, we are choosing this way of lifeâits comforts, its ready entertainments. But convenience can be a curse. Our habits are creating what Atalay has called a âcentury of solitude.â This is the anti-social century. Over the past few months, Iâve spoken with psychologists, political scientists, sociologists, and technologists about Americaâs anti-social streak. Although the particulars of these conversations differed, a theme emerged: The individual preference for solitude, scaled up across society and exercised repeatedly over time, is rewiring Americaâs civic and psychic identity. And the consequences are far-reachingâfor our happiness, our communities, our politics, and even our understanding of reality.

It's hard to imagine today, but Barack Obama ran as a populist outsider, buoyed into office by a grassroots organizing campaign that used an incredibly innovative online organizing tool called MyBarackObama.com, which directly connected rank-and-file supporters so they could self-organize, creating an unstoppable force.
But as far as Obama was concerned, MyBarackObama.com was a campaigning tool, not a governing tool. The last thing Obama wanted was a clamorous electorate jostling his elbow while he made the grand bargains that defined his presidency: secret drone killings, immunity for telcos that profited from in illegal NSA spying, impunity for CIA torturers, bailing out bankers, complicity in the foreclosure epidemic, and, of course, unlimited free money for health insurance companies through the ACA.
Obama ran like a populist, but governed like Chuck Schumer. Meanwhile, the GOP of his day was dominated by its own "grassroots" groups, the Tea Party movement that was funded and organized by the Kochs but who quickly slipped the leash and became an ungovernable force that conquered the party. It turns out that the kind of people who get really involved in party activism are, well, passionate (a less charitable term might be cranks â and I say this as a certified, grade-A crank). They really believe in the principles that bring them into party activism, and the only people they hate more than the other party are their own sellout leaders (oh, hi, Senator Fetterman!).
For a leader whose theory of governance involves a lot of back-room favor-trading and Extremely Grown Up compromising, an activated, organized base represents a powerful obstacle. Obama's seeming genius was his ability to awaken a grassroots campaigning force that he could then hit pause on once he attained office, then re-activate on demand (Obama "revived" MyBarackObama.com for his second presidential campaign):
https://www.computerworld.com/article/1532634/barack-obama-s-big-data-won-the-us-election-2.html
But ultimately, I think we have to conclude that Obama's strategy was a losing one. By putting his own organization into an induced coma between elections, Obama lost an important source of discipline and feedback that would have told him when his compromises overstepped the tolerance of the electorate â and the fact that Obama didn't have an organized base meant that his Democratic Party rivals and his Republican opponents could force him into bad compromises, as with the ACA.
Contrast Obama with another "populist outsider" in the Democratic Party: Bernie Sanders. Sanders has never been afraid of his own base or their passion. Members of his staff disproportionately come from community and union organizing backgrounds. Think of the difference between Sanders' "Not me, US" and "Our revolution" slogans and Obama's dotcom URL, "MyBarackObama.com." Sanders' presidential campaigns were always organizing campaigns, and he's kept those going in non-election years.
Since Trump/Musk's shock therapy assault on American democracy, Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have been made headlines with a series of gigantic rallies across the country. The two Democratic Socialists have turned out vast crowds in Republican strongholds: 11,000 in Greely, CO; 15,000 in Tempe, AZ â and even bigger crowds in traditional Democratic turf: 34,000 in Denver.
Writing for The American Prospect, Micah Sifry describes the larger strategy behind these rallies. According to Faiz Shakur, the Sanders staffer who's organizing the events, the point of these events is to build a massive, grassroots organization that gets shit done:
https://prospect.org/politics/2025-03-26-bernies-fighting-oligarchy-tour-organizing/
The campaign is hiring full-time organizers in "Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and several Western states," and they're already actively fighting in state-level battles, like a Colorado bill to make it easier to form a union:
https://www.cpr.org/2025/02/03/colorado-labor-peace-action-union-history/
These people-powered movements are mobilizing directly against Musk's dark money operation, like the Wisconsin Supreme Court election where Musk is paying people $100 each to vote against Susan Crawford, a progressive candidate:
https://prospect.org/justice/2025-03-21-wisconsin-court-election-drawing-elon-musks-money/
The campaign is using online RSVPs to build out mailing lists. One interesting fact from Sifry's article: 65% of the signups are from people who are new to Sanders' mailing lists. 107,000 people have RSVPed so far. You can sign up here:

Rationalization is easy to slip into and impossible to avoid. Politicians who make themselves beholden to organized supporters who really care about the issues are armoring themselves against the enormous pressure on elected representatives to make compromises. Both Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez have made compromises in their careers that I disagree with. I don't support them because I think they're perfect or immune to self-serving justifications. I support them because they are deliberately putting themselves in a position where it's much harder for them to make excuses and get away with it.

"A bid to break up Alphabet Inc.âs Google is one of the options being considered by the Justice Department after a landmark court ruling found that the company monopolized the online search market, according to people with knowledge of the deliberations.
The move would be Washingtonâs first push to dismantle a company for illegal monopolization since unsuccessful efforts to break up Microsoft Corp. two decades ago. Less severe options include forcing Google to share more data with competitors and measures to prevent it from gaining an unfair advantage in AI products, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing private conversations.
Regardless, the government will likely seek a ban on the type of exclusive contracts that were at the center of its case against Google. If the Justice Department pushes ahead with a breakup plan, the most likely units for divestment are the Android operating system and Googleâs web browser Chrome, said the people. Officials are also looking at trying to force a possible sale of AdWords, the platform the company uses to sell text advertising, one of the people said.
The Justice Department discussions have intensified in the wake of Judge Amit Mehtaâs Aug. 5 ruling that Google illegally monopolized the markets of online search and search text ads. Google has said it will appeal that decision, but Mehta has ordered both sides to begin plans for the second phase of the case, which will involve the governmentâs proposals for restoring competition, including a possible breakup request.
The US plan will need to be accepted by Mehta, who would direct the company to comply. A forced breakup of Google would be the biggest of a US company since AT&T was dismantled in the 1980s."

[...] During the early stages of the war, the army gave sweeping approval for officers to adopt Lavenderâs kill lists, with no requirement to thoroughly check why the machine made those choices or to examine the raw intelligence data on which they were based. One source stated that human personnel often served only as a ârubber stampâ for the machineâs decisions, adding that, normally, they would personally devote only about â20 secondsâ to each target before authorizing a bombing â just to make sure the Lavender-marked target is male. This was despite knowing that the system makes what are regarded as âerrorsâ in approximately 10 percent of cases, and is known to occasionally mark individuals who have merely a loose connection to militant groups, or no connection at all. Moreover, the Israeli army systematically attacked the targeted individuals while they were in their homes â usually at night while their whole families were present â rather than during the course of military activity. According to the sources, this was because, from what they regarded as an intelligence standpoint, it was easier to locate the individuals in their private houses. Additional automated systems, including one called âWhereâs Daddy?â also revealed here for the first time, were used specifically to track the targeted individuals and carry out bombings when they had entered their familyâs residences.
In case you didn't catch that: the IOF made an automated system that intentionally marks entire families as targets for bombings, and then they called it "Where's Daddy."
Like what is there even to say anymore? It's so depraved you almost think you have to be misreading it...
âWe were not interested in killing [Hamas] operatives only when they were in a military building or engaged in a military activity,â A., an intelligence officer, told +972 and Local Call. âOn the contrary, the IDF bombed them in homes without hesitation, as a first option. Itâs much easier to bomb a familyâs home. The system is built to look for them in these situations.â The Lavender machine joins another AI system, âThe Gospel,â about which information was revealed in a previous investigation by +972 and Local Call in November 2023, as well as in the Israeli militaryâs own publications. A fundamental difference between the two systems is in the definition of the target: whereas The Gospel marks buildings and structures that the army claims militants operate from, Lavender marks people â and puts them on a kill list. In addition, according to the sources, when it came to targeting alleged junior militants marked by Lavender, the army preferred to only use unguided missiles, commonly known as âdumbâ bombs (in contrast to âsmartâ precision bombs), which can destroy entire buildings on top of their occupants and cause significant casualties. âYou donât want to waste expensive bombs on unimportant people â itâs very expensive for the country and thereâs a shortage [of those bombs],â said C., one of the intelligence officers. Another source said that they had personally authorized the bombing of âhundredsâ of private homes of alleged junior operatives marked by Lavender, with many of these attacks killing civilians and entire families as âcollateral damage.â In an unprecedented move, according to two of the sources, the army also decided during the first weeks of the war that, for every junior Hamas operative that Lavender marked, it was permissible to kill up to 15 or 20 civilians; in the past, the military did not authorize any âcollateral damageâ during assassinations of low-ranking militants. The sources added that, in the event that the target was a senior Hamas official with the rank of battalion or brigade commander, the army on several occasions authorized the killing of more than 100 civilians in the assassination of a single commander.
