i know this is a movie based blog but do the mods have favourite horror books/authors? :)
Mod L: David Demchuk, Gemma Files, John Langan, Elizabeth Hand, Paul Tremblay, Anne Rice (unfortunately formative). There was a point when I would have included Caitlin Kiernan on this list, but they've unfortunately gone off the alt-right deep end, so . . . get their books from the library, if you get them at all.
Mod Z: *panics in learning disability* So, I guess I gotta tell u what my fave horror books are. I don’t really read much, embarrassingly so, but now the occasional horror classic is my one exception. I got started with a push from my dad back in 2022 to dive into Stephen King's work, and now I'm totally hooked! "Carrie" and "Christine" are total classics, and lately, I’ve started reading "Different Seasons" and "Two Dead Girls." Also, "Vampires Never Get Old", a vampire story compilation, is iconic, especially Schwab's "First Kill" – it's gay as fuck! "Squad" by Maggie Tokuda-Hall is a great graphic novel by Maggie Tokuda-Hall with similar vibes to Jennifer's Body, and just as gay. My taste is really all over the place, but if you’re like me, these reads are a must!
Mod Sus: *guilty look at all Stephen King books they've read* I could answer this so much easier if I had a better memory and/or access to my old library records. I tried to think of more books than Stephen King's and Rats by James Herbert, but I can't remember what everything I've read even though I used to read so much as a teen. Being chronically online has rotten my brain and ability to read adult literature. I should start from small and basics again to get back in touch with reading. R. L. Stine's Goosebumps works if you are having hard time getting into reading long texts and books, it a good warm-up.

So for years other people have been posting Kiernan Shipka and I got it, she's very pretty, but I couldn't see anything but little Sally Draper. Part of this is likely because I have only ever seen her in Mad Men. I was aware one day she would do something I would watch it would probably solve that problem but didn't think about it very much. Either way, I had no idea she was this good. Like she was a good child actor sure but that doesn't always translate to adulthood. I saw Totally Killer though and she is just a bundle of charm. Really amazing props for some fantastic comic timing. I quite liked the movie and a strong cast overall helped it but it was impressive how well she carried the center, just none of it works if she isn't hilarious and compelling in the lead role. So I am posting her. The good news is it was very easy to find nice pictures of her cause she's been famous for a long time and I have never posted her. Today I want to fuck Kiernan Shipka.

Things I'd like to know about other writers!
I was tagged by @coreene , which is so nice thank you! (apparently i count as a writer now, nice)
not going to tag anyone this time as i am being shy
Last book I read: I am giving Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson another go. I never finished it the last time. It has it's flaws big time, and it is very of its era but it is kind of charming honestly. Last book i finished was Vile Affections by Caitlín R. Kiernan. I LOVE her short stories.
Greatest literary inspirations: honestly i have no idea. I read a variety of things, but I've never sat down and thought about it like i have with art, as i'm still new to writing as a hobby honestly. (I'm sure you can tell by my inconsistent grammar)
Things in my current fandom I want to read but I don't want to write: . . . some really intense Abdirak BDSM with emphasis on the SM like, in a Loviatar worshiping dungeon. (maybe the House of Scarlet Hooks just because i like the name. [maybe i will be writing this after all])
Things in my current fandoms I want to write but I think nobody would be interested in them but me: See above lmao. I also want to write some off the walls Gale stuff one day.
You can recognise my writing by: my partner says "you can tell you read a lot of murder mysteries growing up." so perhaps that. Also the uh, the kink. heaps of it
My most controversial take (current fandom): oof idk, there's a lot of interesting ideas in the BG3 fandom. I think i'll keep that to myself for now.
Top three favorite tropes: I love a good loyal body guard falling in love. Penetration (violent) as a metaphor for penetration (sexual). I am a sucker for the one bed thing it's a classic for a reason. Oh how will you handle when you're forced to share a space, hmm?
What’s your current writing mood (10 – super motivated and churning out words like crazy, 0 – in a complete rut): maybe 3. Life has been chaotic lately honestly
Share a random frustration: Why have my headaches been such an issue lately? rude

Sunday confession:
No shade, but I'm tired of insecure tomdayas. Yh, timdayas are annoying and they tend to poke the stick at us but, to think that both Tom and Z having spent nearly a month in a carribean last yr, it took only a press dune 2 tour for her to realise Tom ain't the one is crazy. How are you a fan of her and question her like that?????
Like, I'm not a fan of Timothee rn now, but I was a fan before, and I know for a fact he has always had a lot of female friends as well as male friends. Kiernan Shipka is one of his oldest friends, and she's known him since early in his career, and her mother would drive him to auditions when he stayed with them in LA. She even made a funny joke about Timothee being present during her dates because she was nervous to go alone.
Now Kiernan is a pretty girl. Does that mean that they dated just because they are both attractive and close friends? No. Even when he was in college for a short period of time, he had a female roommate as well as a males. Did they date? No. What I'm trying to say is that Timothee's type is Kylie, lol. Yh him and Z are good friends, but that's it, lol. Just like him and Florence, Taylor, Saoirse, Lilli Reinhart, Molly Gordon....the list goes on. She and Tom spent most of last yr together. If that's not a sign, things are good, then I dont know what is. If it was to break down, it would've broken down by now. Maybe some of you guys should start curating your fan experience and stop projecting.
Also, Kerry and Tony are not good examples because their fame happened as older actors show that the fandom is more nuanced to shopping, and they both have spouses not in the industry. Like most of their fanbase are in their 30s, no shade. I'll be damn if I'm on stan twitter past that age, no shade.
Thanks for your confession Anon. I agree with everything you mentioned. At this point, I'm not even sure how much it's actual insecure Tomdaya fans, or antis pretending to be insecure Tomdaya fans. 🥴
Either way, REAL Tomdaya fans are NOT threatened the least bit by Timmy lol. It's obvious he's like a brother to Z. They have a brother/sister relationship. Idk why some people can't sense that? 🤷🏾‍♀️ He has the same friendship type relationship with Z that he has with Florence if you ask me.
Like you said, Tom and Z have been together for so long, and love each other very much. You're not just throwing away your relationship with your significant other because of a filming or press tour with a co-star lol. 😅
Sometimes, I really wonder if some anons have actually been in serious relationships before.

Resident Evil Fancast #2
So, I've already did a Fancast before but it was like...I don't know, years ago? I still like it but now I'm taking more of a "realistic approach" choosing actors that could actually play the characters based on their Hollywood Status and age. I will also be remembering the Remakes when choosing the actors
Ps: I really like the cast of Welcome to Raccoon City and would totally watch them again in a sequel. I just choose not to put any of them here
Chris Redfield
So, for Chris my first choice was Gabriel Basso who stars in The Night Agent, I haven't watched the show but I think he matches the look with the character. He also have that aura of being serious but chill and trustworthy, he is in his late 20's so basically around the same age Chris is in Re1. The second actor is Marco Pigossi, a talented Brazilian actor that stared in Tidelands and will be in the spin-off of The Boys. He also matches the physical description of the character, and also have that aura that Gabriel also have plus those gorgeous charming and kind eyes. And Lastly I picked Dj Cotrona, he is the older of all, being in his 40's, I like his role in the From dusk till dawn tv series and doesn't hurt that he also matches the physical appearance of the character plus he really looks like a military man I don't know.
Tumblr media
Jill Valentine
Just by looking at Daniela Melchior you understand why I pick her, he is also in her 20's and have all the talent and charisma necessary to play the character . The second is Adria Arjona cuz I really love the idea of a Latina playing Jill, she in her 30's and has those damn eyes that just get you. Lauren Cohan is a bit older for the role, but she would be the perfect Jill to DJ Cotrona, if the movie wanted to portray them as older characters. Btw, the four protagonists I choose people around the same age to play the characters because I think it would be weird to have a 40'old Chris with a 20'something.
Tumblr media
Claire Redfield
Annalise Basso look more like the og Claire Redfield, she is also the youngest of the 3 actresses here and have very kind and loving eyes and features, and she is the youngest sister of Gabriel Basso and I think it would be pretty dope to see two siblings play the Redfield Siblings. Nell Tiger Free looks more like remake Claire, she have that "insta model" look and a "cool girl" vibe, she stars in Servant and is a very promising actress, and for all the Game of Thrones fans, she also played Myrcella Baratheon on the show. And Lastly, Sophie Skelton is the oldest on them, a talented actress that starts in Outlander , her looks is kind of a mix between old and new Claire, she is also have a more mature posture and would be the Claire to Lauren Cohan and DJ Cotrona Jill and Chris
Tumblr media
Leon Kennedy
Nicholas Hamilton, the bully in It would be a nice Leon to Annalise's Claire, since they both worked together before in Captain Fantastic. Second we have Nicholas Galatzine , who stars in Red, white and royal blue...I mean look at him, he really looks like remake Leon. Brenton Thwaites is the oldest of them and just have that friendly nice guy face. I think Leon needs someone who could appear/convey adorableness and capable inexperience and bravery. And I think these three fit this.
Tumblr media
Albert Wesker
Anthony Starr is the Wesker we always dream of seeing in the big screen and I will die on that hill. Warren Cole is good second choice, I mean he is a himbo in Yellowjackets but he also appeared in The Wilds and damn, he was intimidating there as the homophobic father. Lastly we have Kevin Janssen, I mean, look at him, he just have a villain face c'mon. Also he did portray a real, terrifying bad guy in Revenge (the good revenge corn movie)
Tumblr media
For RE1 I think of Kiernan Shipka, Nick Offerman and Jack Quaid as Rebecca, Barry and Brad.
Tumblr media
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 2 we have Jung Ho-yeon as Ada but I also think that Gemma Chan would rock that role. Sterling K Brown is Marvin c'mon. Violet McGraw as Sherry. Andy Garcia would be terrify good was Chef Bryan Iron. And Teddy Sears and Tricia Helder as William and Annette Birkin
Tumblr media
Resident Evil 3
Diego Boneta as Carlos Oliveira, just look at the gorgeous hair and beard. Stephen Lang as Mikhail Victor. Igor Jijikine would make Nikolai look even more intimidating. And Trevante Rhodes as Tyrell Patrick
Tumblr media
Resident Evil Code Veronica
Ewan Mitchell and Phia Saban from House of the Dragon would be so good as Alfred and Alexia Ashford. Jaeden Martell is basically at the same age of Steve and I think his character needs to be played by a young actor anyway. Tenoch Huerta would be a interesting Rodrigo Juan Raval
Tumblr media
Resident Evil 4
Diego Luna would be the perfect cast for Luis Será, not only he looks the part but also has that riz. Sophie Thatcher is a extremely talented young actress who would be able to portray a more develop and cool Ashley, like the one we saw in the Remake. Paula Patton was a nice voice, is elegant and would be a nice choice for Hunnigan, another actress that I think could play the role is Jennifer Connelly. Alan Ritchson as Krauser, I don't think I need to sell this one. Mads Mikkelsen is such an imposing presence on scene, he would be amazing as Osmund Sadler. And Lastly, Jack Gleeson, our beloved Jeffrey Baratheon, would be a perfect Ramon Salazar

kiernan shipka. she/her. female. ✧ ALINA BYRKE is now boarding the poseidon's odyssey! some say the TWENTY-FIVE year old is -FUN-LOVING and -LOYAL, but they're also known to be -STUBBORN and -MEDDLESOME. it could be because SHE RECENTLY RECEIVED A DECENT INHERITANCE. you'll know they're around when you hear about tea time at gran’s, beach campfires and all-nighters, which isn't surprising considering their most played song is BREATHE IN, BREATHE OUT BY BLANKS. we hope you enjoy your stay!
@odysseyextras
STATISTICS
name: Alina Maria Byrke. age: twenty-five. pronouns: she/her. date of birth: march 9th 1997 occupation: cashier
BIOGRAPHY
Alina was born and raised in the south of England. She was raised by just her mother, because her father left before she was born and went complete no contact with them. She also has an older sibling.
Alina has a strained relationship with her mother. They could never qutie get along and her mother very clearly favoured her sibling, which in turn also created friction between her and her sibling as they got older. Her sibling and her were closer as kids, but with the age difference never really considered close.
When she was 11 her father reached out to try and form a kind of relationship with Alina, letting her come over every now and then and introducing her to his new family. They got along pretty well, despite the situation, but eventually her father broke contact again quite abruptly, which impacted Alina a lot.
She liked to rebel against her mother during her youth and cause her as much of a headache as she could. Anything to step out of the perfect daughter her mother wished she could be, or anything to not be like her sibling.
She has always been really close to her (maternal) grandmother. She would visit her often and she had a lot of respect for her. Her grandmother was the only person who could really keep her in check, though she wasn't particularly strict. Whenever there was trouble at home, her grandmother was who she'd turn to and even after she moved out it was always her grandmother she would go to in time of need.
She moved out of her parental home as soon as she finished secondary school. Initially into uni housing, but she ended up moving in with her boyfriend at the time after. During that time she dropped out of uni and after the break up she moved into a flat with a flatmate.
She used to go on cruises regularly with her grandmother. That was their thing. It was mostly her grandmother who enjoyed the cruises, Alina mostly just went to spend time together and have an opportunity to travel.
PRESENT DAY
Alina recently lost her grandmother. Her grandmother left her essentially everything she owned, which turned out to be a lot more than any family members were aware off, seeing as she lived quite humbly. Her grandmother made a request in her will that she use at least part of it to go on at least one more cruise in her name, which is why Alina's on the poseidon's odyssey.
She still enjoys sometimes doing what she is not supposed to do. She loves going out with her friends, hanging out on the beach or in town. While on the odyssey you can find her exploring just about anywhere looking for a good time and good people. Her personal favourites are the arcade and the outdoor pool.

Book Review: The Red Tree by Caitlín R. Kiernan
Tumblr media
This is exactly the sort of book that seeps into your skin and stays with you... or just an intensely frustrating and unsatisfying read if you're not into this kind of storytelling. Luckily for me, I very much am into it.
The Red Tree is, more or less, a horror novel. It's also a very slow-paced, meandering and dreamlike character study with an unreliable and, to some, unlikeable protagonist. What horror there is in this book is eerie, unsettling, full of tangents and implications, blank spots and mystery. I've read it once before and I found myself not very happy with it, but my taste did a complete 180 last year about most of what makes this book so compelling: the slow pace, the messy and poisonous character dynamics, the amount of question marks within the story. More than anything, I fell in love with the protagonist's voice: Sarah Crowe, whose unhinged journal is the main text of the book, is cynical, mean, obsessive and a generally toxic presence, which made her last relationship end in tragedy... and she's fully, painfully aware of all this. She's also a middle-aged lesbian, and it was honestly really good and refreshing to read sapphic horror where the women are allowed to be bitchy and flawed and damaging to each other, because a lot of sapphic rep I've seen in this genre presents the wlw romance as a force of good in a dark narrative. This book isn't only horror: it's an exploration of bad relationships, and the way people sometimes just can't do the right things for each other, or even for themselves. These characters really stood out, and I came to love them not despite but because of their massive flaws. That's exactly why that ending sent chills down my spine.
What else can I say? This book unsettled me, enchanted me, creeped me out, and left me with a deep sadness after reading. I'm so glad I decided to give it another chance.

Previous (Part 1) | Next (Part 3)
Scene 4 - Dew Point, Point Promise, Evergreen Harbor
Haven: I told you it would be worth it.
Cassandra (scoffing): We’ll see. The air here is killer.
Wolfgang (arriving with Kiernan and Morgan): That’s how it is in the Harbor. Wolfgang, at your service.
Haven (shaking his hand): Wes’s new friend.
Wes: A little bit of a stretch, but sure.
Wolf: This is Morgan, who technically doesn’t do introductions, and my boyfriend, Kiernan.
Cassandra: Your boss must really like you, Wolf. Giving you a one-hour shift and all.
Wolf (ignoring her): Kiernan and I are gonna go dance. You’re welcome to join us.
Scene 5 - Dew Point, Point Promise, Evergreen Harbor
Morgan: So, Wolf was saying…you're new to Windenburg, right?
Wes: Yeah, me and Haven. We're in a home for the time being.
Morgan: Wow, that sucks. Must be hard for you.
Wes (thinking to himself): God, she feels bad for me, doesn’t she? I can see it in her eyes. A damn charity case.
Wes: There's a rumor going around school…is it true that you sell drugs?
Morgan: Someone's forward.
Wes: No point in beating around the bush.
Morgan: Why? You trying to buy some?
Wes: Do you?
Morgan: There's no way I'm telling you that.
Wes: I mean, you've got the perfect face for it. No one would suspect you—
Morgan: I can't tell if that's supposed to be a compliment or not.
Wes: —but I get my weed elsewhere. I'm just curious.
Morgan: Don't hold your breath.
Wes: Why deal? You're, what, 16? 17?
Morgan (murmuring): Almost 18.
Wes: Same here. That shit could ruin your life. Besides, the Target in Del Sol pays well—I could put in a good word for you.
Morgan: Have you ever been to San Myshuno? Spent some time in the Spice Market? Because I feel like you wouldn’t be interrogating me like this if you had.
Wes: Spent 2 years on the streets there.
Morgan: Oh.
(silence)
Wes: Can I buy you a drink?

Some questions from a fan about TNC, if you're not sick of providing answers. 1. Was A Voyage to Arcturus in any way on your mind? 2. Some of Salby’s quainter locutions (“This sure is a doozy, sis”) sound more American than British -- can anything be read into this? 3. What can you recommend by other authors that imparts a comparable creeping feeling that all is not well with the world, even after you look up from the page?
(1) No, I'm not familiar with it. (2) When thinking about Salby and writing "his" words, I took inspiration from a bunch of different real-world writers. Henry Darger was one of them.
The "gee-whiz American kids' comics dialogue" derives from Darger, as does the gigantism of the in-story TNC, and various other things. (3) I rarely if ever get that feeling from fiction. I guess I did get it from Infinite Jest, but it's been over a decade since I read that book and I'm not sure I'd still recommend it.
But more generally, if you liked TNC, there's a good chance you would like The Drowning Girl by Caitlín R. Kiernan. It's really good, and similar in a lot of ways. (I hadn't read it when I wrote TNC.)

Off the top of my head:
Some of the guys from the hockey team live in a house next to my friend, and he says they're always being really loud. When they have parties it usually gets really loud too and with a lot of girls compared to boys.
They also keep within their team a lot, but also hang out with the football players and a few random people.
Their captain cheats on his girlfriend all the time, it's pretty common knowledge around campus. She knows it too.
Most of the girlfriends are friends, but I heard there's some beef between Ellie and Mark's girlfriend.
I made out with Luca at a party once and he used Kiernan Draper to entertain my friend, even though Draper is dating their social media girl.
I have more but this is just off the top of my head! - UofM girl
^^^ wow that’s so good!! Anyone want anything!

“Kiernan? Kiernan!” A muffled voice called to her, making her stir.
The more it spoke, the clearer it eventually became until she finally woke up.
“Huh?” Her eyes fluttered open but squinted again at the sudden bright light, “Ugh…What?”
A wave of relief washed over Rick and he audibly sighed. He gently brushed a wisp of hair out of her face, “You took it too far again.”
“Too far? What do you–?” Kiernan attempted to sit up but winced at the throbbing pain on the left side of her head, “...Oh, I see what you mean now.”
“Yeah,” he helped her sit up straight but kept a hand on the small of her back, “You gotta be careful with that. I can’t have you passing out like this.”
She just hummed and looked at her hands. If she looked anywhere else, her eyes would sting because of the intense light pouring through the window. She was also slightly embarrassed that Rick felt like he had to help her. Her head was pounding and she could barely think straight; she almost couldn’t remember what led to this.
Almost.
She was very aware of her metahuman abilities but there were some sides to her that she has never explored. Being naturally curious, she decided to toy with them alone so there was no risk of alerting others. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until the shadows started to envelope her. First, confusion set in but then the shadows took over. It was scary and she felt like she had lost all control. Then, her head started to hurt and everything went black. That’s as much as Kiercan could remember.
Rick frowned and handed her his water bottle, “You really scared me there, Kiernan.”
“You have a history of worrying about the women in your life, don’t you, Flag?” She joked before chugging the water bottle.
The water was lukewarm and tasted like it was left on a window sill for the entire afternoon but Kiernan was still grateful for the drink. This was the first real drink she’s had all day so it tasted heavenly to Kirean. She just about chugged half of it before Rick took it away.
“Leave some for me.” He chuckled, “And yeah, I guess worryin’ about women is kind of my super power.”
Kieran wiped away the bead of water dribbling down her chin, “Hey now, don’t start taking my brand.”
Rick rolled his eyes and playfully shoved her, “Oh, what? You own the idea of possessing super powers now? Should I just tell the rest of the team to go home since they’re all copycats?”
She weakly laughed before cringing at the pain on the side of her head. It was still persistently throbbing and refused to go away. Rick furrowed his brows and gently rubbed her back. He knew he couldn’t take the pain away in an instant but he figured a little comfort might be nice.
“D’ya need anything?” The concern in his voice was all too obvious.
“You’re being too nice to me.” She shook her head, “Just gotta wait it out, I guess.”
He never stopped slowly rubbing between her shoulder blades, “Hey, worrying about women is my power, remember?”
Kieran looked at him and smiled, “Yeah, I guess it is.”
He gently grabbed her arm and pulled her up, “Come on, I can’t have you sitting on this filthy floor anymore. Let’s get you to bed, yeah? Laying down for a bit might do you some good.”
Kieran hummed a response and let him lead the way. She basically leaned all her weight on him due to feeling weak and he didn’t mind that at all. Rick practically carried her to her room and then gently set her down on the bed.
He took a seat at the edge, “Comfy?”
She mumbled a yes as she made herself comfortable. The room was dark, which was how she liked it. It wasn’t too dark that she couldn’t see the outline of Rick’s face, though.
With a gentle touch, he brushed some wisps of hair out of her face and tucked them behind her ear, “You gotta take it easy. I dunno if I can worry myself stupid over another woman.”
“Again with the women!” She laughed, “Trust me, I’m fine. You don’t have to waste time stressing about me.”
“It’s not wasting time. I care about you. A lot.”
Kieran was grateful that the room was dark so that he couldn’t see the way her face got warm when he said that. As much as she teased him for it, she really did find the fact that he cared so deeply for almost everyone around him very admirable. It was attractive, too. It felt good to have someone want her to be okay.
“You don’t have to do that.” She whispered, turning on her side.
Rick sighed, “I know but you’re stuck with me. So, put up with my care or shut up.”
She chuckled softly, closing her eyes to let them relax, “You’re such a dork.”
Without thinking, he placed his hand between her shoulder blades and rubbed her back. He wanted to do what he could to comfort her, to soothe her. Rick wished she would go easy on herself but secretly, he liked caring for her like this, too. He just wished he was doing this under different circumstances.
Kieran tensed up when she felt his hand but soon melted into his touch. She was still so glad that he couldn’t really see the look on her face because if he did, she would probably never live it down. His touch had so much love in it, though, so she thought it was safe to assume that he felt the same way.
“Wanna promise me something?” He whispered to her.
“Hmm? Sure, ask me anything.” Kieran asked, yawning.
Even though he knew she wouldn’t be able to see his face too well, he smiled, “Promise me to get some rest, okay?”
She nodded and nuzzled her pillow, “Only if you stay a little while longer and continue doing this.”
“It’s a deal.”
Rick made good on his promise and stayed put. He stayed there, rubbing her back, until he was certain Kieran was fast asleep. Finally, he tiptoed away quietly to make sure not to make her stir and went about his day. He planned on checking in on her soon enough, though. His super power was worrying about the women in his life, of course he wanted to make sure she was alright.
