Under his influence (Post Avengers! Loki x female reader)
Read chapter 8 here // Series Masterlist
Chapter 9
Summary : A misunderstanding seperates you two.
Warning: mention of psychological torture, angst, insecurities, self deprecating behaviour
Tumblr media
To say that Loki was angry would have been an understatement, he was livid and he really would have hurt someone if he was allowed to do that. Unfortunately he no longer had an autonomy here, he was just a puppet, at first for Odin, then for Thanos and now these clowns in suits.
Everytime he thought of you it only made him want to cry. What you must be thinking of him? You must despise him, he had no clue about all of this but you didn't know that. Of Course he was getting punished for a mistake he didn't even make, the one person who seemed to actually care about him would probably never want to see him again either after this.
"Loki" He heard Thor knocking on the door, he went back to his chamber after press conference and when the news broke, he couldn't just stay out there with people who seemed so shallow, if they really wanted to leak the story, why didn't they just invite you here to tell the truth? Why did they just replace you like that?
He opened the door and Thor was looking at him with a look of pity in his eyes.
"I need to call her Thor, she must be waiting to hear from me, i desperately need to connect with her" he mumbled as fast as he could but his voice cracked.
"Just calm down Loki"
"Calm down? Calm down? I can not stay calm when I know she must be hurting there, why did you tell Stark about her?" Thor crossed his arms and he had a look of confusion on his face.
"I told him? I just gave him a briefing, why did you open your big mouth and share everything with that Melisaa lady?" He retorted and Loki realised what he had done, he told her every little thing you had done that day.
"I just..she asked me and I wanted to talk about her. I miss her around me, I miss seeing her, I miss talking to her" his eyes teared up and Thor sighed,
"You really do fancy her don't you"
Loki didn't respond this time, Thor went back to Stark and asked him to allow Loki that one phone call he had promised, so Stark, his publicist Dalia and other members from his team called Loki in the conference room. As soon as Loki walked in he stormed towards Tony which made him take several steps to the back.
"Look.. let me just clear one thing up okay?" Tony started speaking so Loki crossed his arms together. He actually didn't have an answer for him so he looked at Dalia, their publicists, she smiled at Loki but he didn't return it.
"I know you think we are evil for doing this but we did get in touch with y/n, that girl you were staying with all this time" his eyes flickered at the mention of your name.
"What did she say? Can I talk to her?"
"Listen to me Loki, she clearly wants to stay away from this drama, she said that she don't feel comfortable with this thing getting out in the world as she's just a normal girl and this would affect her life greatly, she refused to come here, we invited her only first, Melisaa was just the plan b" Tony looked at her as she pulled out a blatant lie, there's no way they reached out to that girl in Minnesota, he didn't even know this girl, all Dalia told him was that y/n wasn't someone who would look good with someone like Loki.
Loki's eyes welled up as he heard that. Did you really not want to get in touch with him? You did refuse to come here with him, it has been only two months but those two months meant everything to him.
"I like to believe that these past two months has been as nice for you as they have been for me"
Your words echoed in his head and they only made him feel more broken.
"I know you don't want to hear this but she said that she wouldn't want to associate herself with someone like you so publicly, your reputation isn't the best, in fact the way she was talking to me it seemed as if she didn't want to stay in touch with you at all" the words pierced his heart. You would never say something like that about him. Right?
"I still need her information, give me her phone number" he mumbled so she placed a slip on the table. He walked towards it and grabbed it quickly, then he stormed out of there. He did not want to believe this, did you really not want to connect with him? His heart felt heavy and burdened by the memories he had made with you.
He sat down on his bed and used the telephone in the room to dial the number, the number was turned off, he kept hearing the same message over and over again. He just wanted to hear it from you once, he wanted to be told that you were done with him too just like everyone else. Silent tears cascaded down his cheeks as he kept trying to connect with you but his attempts were futile, he felt shattered.
All he wanted to do was go back to that apartment of yours and cuddle you on that bed but perhaps you didn't want that anymore.
Tumblr media
You didn't know how much you had cried that day, he hadn't called you and now they were using the story so people would like him, why didn't he call you? Did he not want to talk to you at all? Were you this easy to discard and replace? Of Course you were, that's what had happened to you before so why did you think you would become an exception for a god like him? It indeed felt like a breakup that you never saw coming, you weren't even able to fall asleep because the memories kept you up at night, all you wanted to do was snuggle him and kiss him.
You wanted the time to turn back and bring him back to you but did he even want that anymore?
You couldn't have expected a powerful man like him agreeing to stay hidden in your apartment forever especially with someone like you but he was your friend right then why did he abandon you like that?
"How do you know I have not done just that, maybe all of this is just an act to fool you"
Maybe you were just a fool he played with.
Next day as you stepped out of your apartment you saw Mrs Geller and you could tell she was concerned about you.
"Are you alright my dear?" She asked you so you looked at her confused "Come have a cup of tea with me"
"I have to work" you answered her, so she walked towards you and grabbed your hand to take you to her apartment. Every Time someone showed a bit of concern for you, your eyes welled up on their own,
"That day i thought you were over this breakup but you aren't doing well are you?" She asked you as she made you sit down on her couch and that's when you broke down. You couldn't even tell anyone about him, you couldn't share your pain and keeping it all in only made it worse.
"I am not..I'm not okay" you placed your head between your palms as you started to sob, you weren't eating and you weren't taking care of yourself at all, it was starting to show.
"He was the sweetest man I had ever known and you know before.. before I met him i always thought that I still had time, I used to think that okayyyy I'm not that old I still have hope, i always wanted someone like him and for a moment i did but now he's gone and that hope is gone too because I know I'll never ever find anyone like him again because there's no one else exactly like him, it's just impossible" her eyes teared up as you cried furiously so she laid you down on the couch with your head resting on her lap and she caressed your head until you fell asleep.
Tumblr media
Loki woke up with the sound of loud banging noises on his door, he was having a dream about you, a sweet dream where he saw himself sitting on that ugly sofa of yours with you on his lap, you were giggling about something he had said to you and then you told him how cute he was as you kissed his forehead. He wanted to stay in that dream but he had to wake up sometime, he got up and showered because he had a training session with the Captain and Romanoff, he despised his life here, he truly did.
It's been a few days since that press conference and they were preparing him to fight like an Avenger. Thor was on Asgard for political purposes and he wasn't wanted there so he had no choice but to stay here. Every night when he went back to his room after the long day he always held that slip in his hands and dialed your number but it always told him the same thing, the number always was switched off or perhaps you changed it. He wanted to stop bothering you like this but he missed you plenty, he just wanted to hear your voice once and he would have killed for a chance to hold you just once.
"Loki are you listening? What are you wearing for the party? Our clothes need to match for the pictures" he heard Melissa's voice and it only irked him further, she wasn't at fault here, she was probably doing what she has been told to do but he didn't feel anything for her even though she had tried her best to seduce him, maybe it was because she was trying so hard, she was trying to fuck him while you wanted to be his friend, you cared about him , you didn't just want to have sex with him and be done with him after that, you wanted more the same way he did but then what changed? What made you take a step back?
At the party she clicked several pictures with him, it was an act on his part but he had no choice in the matter, people of midgard were starting to like him and this fake couple they had created.
Tumblr media
You sat down on the sofa after work and opened the Instagram app to stalk the Melissa chick again. She had posted a new photo with him with some cheesy caption, your heart clenched as you looked at his face. He had a smile on his face but why did his eyes seem so sad? That's not how you remembered them, whenever he was genuinely happy his eyes always became so sparkly and bright, they reminded you of the sun rising first thing in the morning. Maybe you were just romanticizing him, you knew this was not healthy for you but you couldn't stop doing this as well. That should have been you with him. Why wasn't that you?
....
"Oh my godd I'm so drunk" he looked at Melissa as she sat down next to him, she was inebriated he could tell.
"Do you want me to walk you to your room?" He asked her politely, he didn't really like her but his mother always taught him to respect ladies so he never really made it clear that he didn't like her, she was just doing her job.
He walked her to the room and laid her down on the bed, he was about to leave but she grabbed his tie and pulled him closer to her.
"Loo stay with me" she mumbled and the shortened name was upsetting for him, it reminded him of you only.
"Please don't address me with that name" he told her as he tried to pull himself away as gently as he could, he didn't want to hurt her.
"Okay Loki.. is that fine?" She raised her voice and he was shocked by her tone "Just stay the night, come on..be a man, aren't you supposed to be a god? How come you don't want thisss?" She mumbled as she tried to kiss him so he pushed her away a little harshly this time to get out of her clutches.
"Do not behave so disrespectfully, you hear me? This is all just a farce and I need you to remember that" he walked out of her room as quickly as he could before this would get uglier than this, he didn't want to go back to his room so he took the elevator to the roof and sat down on the ledge.
It's been a month since he had seen you last, they say that time is the best remedy for such emotional wounds but then how come it was only getting harder and harder for him to forget you?
He wasn't able to let go of those memories he had made with you, you had him enchanted that very first day, he felt a sense of belonging with you, there was a strong emotional connection between you two and you have been hurt before so badly then why did you allow all of that to go to waste? How come you didn't want to explore the depth of this relationship between you two? He waved his fingers and a bottle of beer appeared in his hand that he had stolen from the several parties he had attended in the past few days.
He remembered how excited you used to get whenever he'd do one of these magicky things as you liked to call it.
A smile appeared on his face as he thought about you, he closed his eyes and just pictured himself with you in that tiny little apartment. The bliss didn't last for long because he heard the thunder roaring above him and then Thor was there.
"Welcome back" he mumbled as Thor sat down next to him.
"Aren't you supposed to be down there at the celebration?"
"I am" Loki answered as he chugged on his drink. He could feel his brother's gaze on him so he conjured another pint and gave it to him
"How's mother?"
"She misses you" he chuckled as Thor said that, it just seemed unbelievable at times. Did they even care when he was supposedly dead for a year? Did they even mourn him properly before they moved on and pretended as if he never existed?
"There's something I wanted to tell you" Thor spoke so Loki looked at him curiously,
"Go on"
"I had a conversation with Heimdall before my arrival, that lady of yours. .he said that she always seems miserable" Loki's eyes widened as Thor said that.
"What?"
"Loki that day before the press conference Stark said to me that he didn't think she'd fit into your new life. When you told me that she didn't want to talk to you I thought perhaps she wasn't ready for this but heimdall said she has been miserable without you, she keeps crying"
Loki stood up suddenly as he heard that.
"But I have been trying to connect with her and she just–" his eyes flickered with realization "What if that's not even her information that they gave me? What if they never communicated with her?" His eyes teared up as he thought about the possibility. What if you thought he was the one who didn't want to do anything with you?
"Norns I need to see her now" he stood up and his hand combed through his hair. Why didn't he just go see you in the first place?
"Loki you can't, we can't go there" Thor intervened.
"I can, I can teleport without the tesseract"
"No hold on Loki that would kill you, Minnesota is far from here"
"I have to .. Thor i have to go see her, I'd never be able to live with myself if I continue to hurt her like this" his eyes welled up so Thor sighed and stood up as well.
"But what if they weren't lying, what if she doesn't want to do anything with you?" That was definitely a possibility, a possibility that would continue to break his heart forever but he had to take that risk. He can't live his whole life this way.
"Well then maybe I just need to hear it from her. I promised her that I'd get back to her" his voice trembled as he spoke. Thor knew the moment he met you that you cared about him, you genuinely did and maybe Loki needed this person in his life more than anything, their brotherly relationship has soured because of everything that has happened amongst them but maybe this lady can bring back his older self, he seemed to be the happiest whenever he talked about you.
Tumblr media
It was 2 am at night and somehow you had managed to drift into sleep but then your phone started to ring and it was Mrs Geller so you picked it up.
"Hello Mrs Geller, is everything alright?" You asked her as you felt concerned, she never called this late at nights.
"Oh dear I'm sorry to bother you but I think that guy you broke up with is downstairs, I think he buzzed the wrong number" you sat up immediately as she he said that.
"Wait a second..what?" You turned on the lights, got off the bed and started to pace back n forth in nervousness
"That man.. Mark Johnson..he's downstairs, should I buzz him in?"
You almost dropped the phone from your hand as she mentioned his name, he must have told her the name, that means he was Loki. Oh god Loki was there.
"Ummm yeah ..bring him in.. ummm I'm sorry Mrs Geller, he probably forgot the apartment number "
You apologized and she hung up the phone after she told you that it wasn't an issue. Your heart was beating so fast you feared it would burst out of your chest and explode into several pieces.
You quickly walked towards the mirror but it was a lost cause, you looked awful and there was no fixing it.
As you heard the knock on the door you took a deep breath and opened it. There he was, as pretty as you remembered him to be. He smiled as he looked at you but his eyes were teary. You looked at Mrs Geller and she seemed shocked because this wasn't Mark Johnson, this was Loki in all his loki glory, even though he was in a fancy midgardian suit, everyone knew him by face at this point.
"I promise I'll explain tomorrow" you said to her and he turned around to smile at her. Finally he had come face to face with the famous Mrs. Geller.
"Oh dear ..alright, have a good night..both of you" she exclaimed awkwardly and she shut her door. Before anyone else would see him you pulled him inside and closed the door, the relief he felt in the moment was indescribable. He has missed this place and more than that he has missed you.
"So ummm how are you Loki?" You asked and he smiled. He could sense that you were cross with him but that didn't stop you from asking about his well being.
"I have been better, especially when I was here, I was so much better" you snickered as he said that. Yeah right, that's why he never contacted you again.
"Loki, really what are you doing? I am surprised you remember me still" You mumbled as you walked past him and moved to the kitchen to grab a glass of water.
"I am hurt by the notion, I could never forget you princess" he answered you so you glared at him.
"Yeah? Is that why you replaced me with Gorgeous gorgeous Melissa?" Your eyes welled up and so did his.
"That wasn't my decision, I didn't even know of that" his voice sounded so meek and sad that it made you wonder. Oh god what if he didn't know? What if they fooled him?
"Okay umm then why didn't you call?" As soon as you asked him that he just knew that they never contacted you, your anger seemed valid because he was hurt too by your decision of not wanting to do anything with him, you must have thought the same. He took out the slip they had given him from his pocket and placed it down on the kitchen counter so you looked at it, it was a phone number but you didn't recognise it.
"I am assuming that's not yours?" He asked you so you shook your head. He smiled before he turned around and walked towards the sofa to sit down, his knees felt weak, he was hurting you unknowingly all this time and he had no clue.
"I waited for your call Loki and it never came" you mumbled softly, he could hear the pain in your voice and it hurt him to the core. He never wanted to drive you away like this, he never wanted to fuck this precious relationship he shared with you, he just hoped that you'd still want him in your life, that you'd still want to be his friend.
"They said to me that they had asked you to be there with me and you refused to be part of that, you didn't want to get yourself involved and I knew how you felt about this and your family and I just thought you–" you looked at him shocked as he said that. They lied to him, he didn't lie to you, they played you both simultaneously.
"I know i said it was too much at the moment Loki but I never wanted to lose you, you knew what your friendship meant to me"
"I know.. I know darling..i just ..i really wanted to connect with you and hear it from you but that number..that never worked" he sniffled so you sat down next to him and held his hand in yours to gave him a comforting squeeze.
"I just thought you had moved on, and it hurt.. so bad because –" before you could even finish your sentence he went down on his knees in front of you, he grabbed both of your hands in his then he placed his head down on your lap, the sight alone made you want to curl up to him. He was being hurt too all this time.
"Loo" you mumbled softly as you leaned down to kiss his head, he smelled as good as you remembered, whenever the bed started to lose his scent you sprinkled some of that perfume he had given you just to feel him around you and now that he was actually there it felt surreal, it felt like a dream.
"Come here ..I'm sorry I didn't know" you opened your arms so he crawled up, you climbed on his lap and he immediately placed his head on your chest to embrace you as tightly as he could. He was crying and you were crying, it was a mess but at least you both had each other.
"I should have come before, I have hurt you so deeply and I don't know how I'd fix it, you saved my life and –" you pressed your finger on his lips to stop him from blaming himself, you were so angry with him before you had learned the truth because you thought he had abandoned you but now that you knew the anger had dissipated completely and all that you felt for him was the intense love, that never left, it was always there.
"We will fix it" You mumbled softly as you fingers caressed his cheeks "We just need to communicate because people aren't too nice out there okay?" he nodded as you said that, you wiped his tears with your thumb and you both had a moment where you just looked at each other because none of you could really believe that the other person was there and then he cupped your cheeks to kiss you, his lips planted on yours and he gave you soft kiss before it heated up, his tongue slipped into your mouth and he tasted so cold and so sweet like a frozen slurpee. God you had missed him so badly, this morning when you woke up you definitely didn't think you'd be getting to kiss him tonight.
As he pulled away the look on your face made him smile, you had your eyes closed, your breaths seemed erratic and your lips had swollen because of the kiss. He had missed you more than anything and he wasn't going to lose you again. He also noticed the fluctuation in your weight, you were still so beautiful but those bags under your eyes hinted at the lack of sleep and the sunken cheeks reminded him that you haven't been eating enough. Neither was he but his genes made it easier to hide.
"Did you umm eat dinner tonight..i guess I should say last night because it's almost 3 in the morning" you asked him and he smiled.
"I did not princess "
"Why?"
"Well nobody asked, " you shook your head at the answer.
"I have leftovers, I'll warm it up for you okay?" You mumbled softly
"I'll eat if you'd do the same"
"Okay" You pressed your lips on his to give him a peck but instead of pulling away quickly, you pecked on his lips like a bird again and again atleast five more times. He couldn't help but smile at the gesture, this was going to be his favorite thing from now on.
As you got off his lap, he grabbed your hand and followed you. He didn't want to leave your side because he felt afraid of the distance. You felt so hurt by him and he wasn't even at fault here, they had created this situation just to separate you two. And they were supposed to be the heroes. The good guys.
"Lo how did you get here?"
"Thor helped"
"Oh. Tell him I said thanks " you smiled so he pecked your lips before he leaned himself against the counter.
Just being here with you made him feel better. Everything seemed shinier and brighter at the moment.
"Ummm do you have to leave soon?" You asked him nervously, you knew he'd have to leave, you just didn't want him to go.
"He will pick me up in the morning, they can not know that I am here" he answered so you nodded.
"I know..but atleast we have the night" you smiled as you walked towards him, your arms wrapped around his waist as you hugged him then you placed your head down on his chest. After eating, he wanted to take a shower and you had kept the clothes he had left behind so you took it out for him. When he came out he was all drenched and wrapped in that towel that seemed too small for him, your face felt warm at the view so you turned around.
You fixed the bed and then you both jumped on it without wasting a second further, he was holding onto you so tight but it didn't suffocate you, infact you were finally able to breathe properly after so long. That's all you needed in your life now. Just him.
"Lo can I ask you something?"
"Mhhm"
"Why did you come today, what made you do so?"
"Well Thor had just returned from. Asgard and he told me that heimdall has informed him about you, and that you weren't happy without me" he told you honestly.
"I was miserable without you " you mumbled softly so he put his head up from your chest and kissed you "It's kind of eerie that I'm being watched all the time though" you giggled and it made him laugh too.
"I have missed you so much my princess, I never wanted to hurt you like this"
"I know that now, I'm sorry I assumed the worst, I just thought you were done with me" your eyes teared up so he turned you on your back and kissed you, your arms wrapped around his neck to pull him closer to you.
"Wait ..umm are you dating this Melissa woman?" You asked him and he looked at you confused before he understood what you meant.
"Not at all, it's all an act, nothing is real between us"
"So you're not her friend or anything?"
"You're my only friend sweetheart " you smiled and it made him smile too so he kissed you again.
"Well the act is working you're getting really popular on Tumblr" he chuckled as you said that
"What is that?"
"It's like Facebook, girls really want to have sex with you, some guys too"
He blushed as you said that
"Well I do not care for that" He only wanted to sex you up and do other things with. Just you.
He laid down on his side again with his head between the crook of your neck so you embraced him in a bear hug.
"You're so cutee"
"I have been dying to hear that..how cute I am though? On a parameter of let's say one to ten"
"You're like a thousand"
"I broke the parameter" he spoke excitedly.
"Definitely"
"You are absolutely adorable too my princess"
"I have missed you Loki"
"I'll come see you now princess, perhaps not everyday but I will be here" his words eased your worries but then the situation bothered you.
"What if they find out lo? I don't want them to hurt you"
"They can't hurt me Princess, I'm stronger of them all, I hope my silence won't be mistaken for my weakness, i committed a crime and for that I'm willing to atone but I won't let them harm you in anyway I promise " you kissed his forehead as he finished speaking. He was a victim too, you hoped someday he'd see it that way as well. Also they definitely didn't want you to be in his life and that worried you.
"People like me don't gel with people like them you know, they're above me"
"That makes no sense to me, they are all humans, same as you and my precious princess you're way above them all, your kindness is unmatched, you gave me a home when I had no one to call my own, you don't even know how much you mean to me" he mumbled softly, making you heart soar.
"I do now, I do lo and I'm so happy to have you in my life and that you came back"
His fingers caressed your back and they didn't stop until you had fallen asleep, sure he wanted to atone for the crimes he had committed but first and foremost he wanted to take care of the goddess that had chosen to believe in him when nobody did. He never wanted to hurt you again or destroy your faith in him.
In a few hours he knew he'd have to leave you again but he was determined that he wasn't going to lose you this time.

I gotta rant a bit about Loki
I have not seen season 2 of his show, but season one killed my love for MCU Loki
Let's start with the movies. The first two Thor movies are usually regarded as some of the worst MCU films (especially the second), but what I like about them is at least Loki has a consistent character arc throughout them (along with the first Avengers film). Loki learns that he's a part of a race that is treated like monsters on Asgard, and this destroys him. He tries to off himself at the end of the first Thor movie, only to end in the hands of Thanos. He went through so much shit throughout all three of these movies, and Thor 2 ends with him on Asgard's throne, leaving the audience wondering what he will do now he got what he thought he wanted.
Then Thor 3 happened. Look, I like Taika Waititi, and Thor 3 is an enjoyable film, but it destroyed Loki's character arc. He's just a silly guy now. Why does he try to backstab Thor? Because he's silly, no other reason. Plus, after Odin has lied to Loki for his entire life, he tells him that he loves him and magically all that trauma about him being a frost giant is gone! In fact, I think the MCU has forgotten that Loki is a frost giant at all! (Shut up, I know about What If). Ok, but what about the next movie. Thanos has finally come and now Loki can confront the person that gave him the mind stone to take over Earth- and Loki's dead.
I really don't like how they killed Loki. Loki is not a character you kill off to show how dangerous this villain will be. Mostly because the movies had forgotten to finish his character arc, but I guess everyone had forgotten he had one at this point.
Did anyone cry when he died? I sure as hell didn't, and I'm a crybaby when it comes to my faves dying. I was more shocked, and I convinced myself that this was another fake out. Honestly it may seem like cope with all these fans believing that he is still alive, but he has faked his death before, and nobody wanted to believe that his story will end in a dumb way that felt like the writers not believing that he mattered as a character.
But he did, and now we have season 1 of Loki. I honestly thought the writers realized how loved Loki is and they would finally finish his character arc. I mean, the show takes place after Avengers 1, and that's when Loki still hated himself for being a frost giant.
But no, Loki is silly again. Thor 3 has really ruined Loki. I understand that the first 2 Thor movies weren't as beloved, but I loved all the Loki scenes. There's a reason why his character became so popular despite the movies not.
Anyway, the first season of Loki isn't all bad. I love that it gave Loki a friend, and Mobius plays off him really well. And... yeah, I think that's all I like about it.
Now on to everything else. To start off, I really don't like Sylvie x Loki. Not only does it give me incestuous vibes, I really don't think Loki should have a love interest at this point (I don't ship Mobius x Loki too because of this point, but I will admit they have way more chemistry than Sylvie x Loki). But as I said, the writers didn't care about his character arc and so they forced a romance they had no time to build up, leaving me confused on why they had them fall in love in one episode, and ohh boy, the episode is super fucking dumb.
They established that you can do anything in an apocalypse situation and there would be no anomalies detected, SO WHY DOES LOKI AND SYLVIE FALLING IN LOVE CAUSE AN ANOMALY??? Because the plot said so, I love lazy writing in the show with my favorite character!!
God, and there's the queer baiting. Now, I can excuse the train scene because daddy Disney can't have shows say the word bi, but the scene where Loki asks the other Lokis if they ever seen another female Loki, and they say no???? WTF!?!? Is Loki gender fluid or not! Also, this is a stupid ass line that didn't need to be in the show? There are an infinite amount of universes, but only 1 female Loki who got caught by the TVA?? That doesn't make sense!
I'm done with Loki and I'm done with the MCU. The only good MCU show I've seen was WandaVision, and they still botched the ending and had a horrible follow up movie.
I heard Loki season 2 was better, but I still don't know why I should even bother

So the following is my opinion on the Loki S2 finale spoilers ahead.
So I've been seeing people call Lokis finale act selfless and he went from most selfish to most selfless and I have to disagree heavily at least for my perception.
Loki started selfish but not as bad as everyone else claims. He got Thor delayed coronation because either he wanted the throne or he wanted Thor to grow first and save Asgard from someone not ready for the throne. As the movie goes along Loki discovers why he's the least favorite and why they treat him differently and he snaps. He becomes angry and bitter. With one revelation his world cracks and he knows he's a bargaining chip with Laufey and now he doesn't trust anyone because there's a millenia old cosmic joke on him. Even his mother was in on it and admits it. The one person he thought he could trust. So he massacres the Frost Giants and Laufey because he wants to be loved and trusted by his family. He wants it proven that he's good enough. That he's more than another stolen relic but he also hates himself and it seems like an act of self hatred. They hated the frost giants, they hate him so burn it all. Then the golden child returns seeking his righteous throne that he doesn't deserve. A few days on Earth and suddenly he's some wise being? He appears and reveals what Lokis done. He's ruining everything so he doubles down and goes to annihilate the frost giants and then the idiot goes and ruins it. All he wants is the same love that Thor got. The love he was denied. He's always been less than but if he can do this and wipe out their worst enemies, his blood then maybe he'll be worth it. But Thor wins. Odin saves them. Loki begs and pleads, "I could have done it father! For you! For all of us!" And the worst things that ice runt shivering in the cold could hear after all he's done, "No, Loki." And with one sentence he realizes it'll never be enough, he never will. And he lets go. He casts himself into that void ready for it all to end. He's a monster and everyone fears the monster that parents tell their children about at night.
Then he's tortured and doing Thanos bidding. There's no saving him and no one wants to. Thor appears to take him home and instead of wondering what happened he immediately attacks him and yells at him. He suffered so much and he might as well get the throne since now he knows no one will love him. All he can do for himself is get a throne. But now it's just spite and anger. They ruined his plan, rejected him so he will take a throne. He will rule like he should have been allowed. If Thor hadn't been in his way or he hadn't been stolen.
Then he's defeated and returned to Asgard where once again he's greeted by Odin. Once again he's reminded how not his son he is. He did exactly what Odin would do and he's punished for it. Humans are fleeting and an easy species to conquer so why shouldn't he. But no Odin can't let his slave get the throne and locks him in the dungeon. He never had a chance and he's angry and bitter. He feels he has no one, he barely trusts his mother. She lied too. They all did. She tries to reach him, and get him to be honest with himself. He stays true, Odin isn't his father. "Then am I not your mother?" That's the question that hits the child right in his heart. He has a choice, accept his weakness and love her or let his anger and disdain and hatred for Odin and Thor win. "You're not." He says reluctantly and painfully. "Always so perceptive of everyone but yourself." The last words he ever hears her utter to him. She sees his pain and knows the child she cared for is still there. He's told she's died (whether he knows he caused it is unknown I believe) and he loses it. The last person he could ever care for and trust. The one person hevcwred for. She's gone. He's angry and broken and he seizes the chance to make her murderers pay albeit with the fun of jesting Thor. So he fakes his death (also he literally saved Jane and idk if he did it cause he liked her or cause he still unfortunately cared for his brother). Anyways his death is faked so time to remove Odin. He takes the throne and Asgard prospers for years until...
Thor shows up again and ruins his plans. He'd gotten rid of Heimdall, he was good and then ruined again. He's dragged to go find Odin and it seems that they've mellowed a bit while they travel to Odin. Then Odin finally gives Loki validation and acceptance and love... but only in his final moments. Hela appears and Loki saves him and Thor but are thrown to Sakaar. Loki has favor with the Grandmaster (ever the opportunist) and plans to get Thor off world (because he does care unfortunately). But then he sees an opportunity again and he can't deny himself because he only has himself to rely on. He can't chance it. He'll throw Thor not because he wants to but because he needs to. But then he realizes that he doesn't have to keep putting himself first and Thor finally had shown he cared and Loki accepts (albeit rushed fuck Ragnarok) his love for Thor and Asgard so he goes to save them. He takes the role of savior and saves them all (and grabs the tesseract because self preservation bitch).
Loki saves them all then Thanos appears and he knows what he's capable of. So he tries (knows he's likely to fail but fuck it what more could he lose) to kill Thanos. He can't lose Thor so he loses his life.
Then TVA Loki discovers it all processes a lot and then tries to trick the TVA and get back to Thor all while gaining more power for himself. So he goes and manipulates and claims what opportunities he can and ends up befriending Mobius and once again offered with opportunity or a real connection he chooses opportunity and self preservation
So he meets Sylvie. He sees her and gets to know her and falls for her because she's just like him in her own way but she's different. She's someone on his level and he grows to care for her. They actually have meaningful conversations and it's actually stimulating. It's thought provoking. He falls for her because she's special. Then the TVA captures them and Loki has finally found a connection he doesn't want to lose. He's found companionship and someone he can rely on (kinda). Then Mobius interrogates him and while at first he doesn't believe him eventually he does. Mobius trusts him and is pruned because he trusted him. Loki lost his friend but he has Sylvie and he cares for her and then he's ripped away from her too.
He appears at the end of time surrounded by himself and he realizes that they are forced to be villains and to be alone and to lose. If they can seek connection, pruned. If they get power, pruned. If they are any form of not dastardly they are pruned. They are destined for this and it's heartbreaking. And ever the rebellious trickster he is he fights back. He seeks the audience with the timekeeper so he may take hold of his destiny. He refuses to have strings pulling him. So he and Sylvie work together to get to He Who Remains and this is where he realizes that yet again his connection is fake. That to everyone else he is untrustworthy and unlovable. He tells her he does not care about a throne, he tries to tell her she's not alone and he understands (prolly what he needs to hear most people say to others what they themselves need to hear). He doesn't care about a throne, he just wants her to be okay. He finally chooses connection over self preservation (well besides for when he saved Jane and then Thor in Infinity War but who cares)
They fight, he admits his love and he's cast aside. He then suffers through a reality where none of his friends know him. He's alone again and he's seeking Mobius desperately his best friend left. He explains it all and Mobius accepts and helps him. He's not upset at him for failing he just wants to help him.
So they go through the season trying to save everyone. Loki wants to find Sylvie, to know what happened, but to also know if she cares at all about him. She wants a life. She cares more about living her life after millenia of running and hiding in Apocalypses. Who can really blame her. But Loki needs her help and she needs her life. He knows he can't make her help him and they go their separate ways. So he and Mobius go on their adventure and Loki tries to be a good friend and ask him real questions and be to him what he was to Loki. They find Timely and Renslayer and Loki fights Sylvie again. He fights the person who made him truly choose connection over self preservation. She's hellbent to kill Timely but Loki finally has other people he cares about and he won't lose everyone else. She betrayed him and he understands but he won't lose everyone, not again. He's lost his world before, never again. But eventually she helps him and they go to save the loom. But it's too late. Timely dies and then everyone is wiped.
Loki ends up alone timeslipping again. He's dragged to his friends, he sees who they are supposed to be and he learns that his connections aren't just weakness. His connections end up being his guiding light and he saves everyone. He talks to Sylvie and she makes him confront that. He knows she's being selfish and she knows he is too. So she makes him admit it. He wants his friends back. He saves his friends and goes back to the loom. He doesn't care about all of reality, he cares about the people who care about him.
He learns and endures and gets them where they need. He learns that the loom won't work and then learns why. HWR always had a plan. If Loki wants everyone safe he has to kill Sylvie. He has to kill the person who made him capable of getting to this point. So he refuses. He beats HWR at his own game.
He goes to talk to Sylvie and explain what's happening. She tells him what she believes and it's what gets him to do what works to save everyone he cares for. They have to have free will. They have to fight back. If he kills her they'll never have that. Loki knows he doesn't want to let anyone make another call for him it's what's happened all eternity and he knows Lokis are always tortured. So he listens and finds another way. He goes to talk to him most reliable and consistent person. Mobius tells him what Mobius needed to know. He tells him what Loki needs to know. That the glorious purpose he wanted to make all the pain he suffered worth it, what Odin wanted, what Thanos made him seek, what he sought when he had no one, that its more pain for his already tortured soul. Loki knows that Lokis are destined to lose but they always survive. He makes the hard call. He wants his friends safe. He wants everyone he loves in all existence safe, even if it hurts. So he knows what he has to do. He takes one last look at them all then one last look at the 2 people who made it truly possible. "For you. For all of us." He breaks the loom, gathers the dying timelines and breathes life into the multiverse and sits alone atop his glorious purpose. It was never about everyone. It was always about him, and what he wanted. He knew there was no way to get what he wanted, so he did the next best thing he could. He saved his friends and took the heavy crown of his glorious purpose because at least then he can see them and know they're okay and safe. He saved the people who saved him. Everyone else was just convenient.

alexsandr kallus is a better fascist turned redeemed hero character than kylo fucking ren because although they both were fascist officers and heavily involved in literal genocide, kallus was the one who had to sit through the aftermath of what he did and actually do something about it. he realized his faith in the system was flawed and horrific and was forced to work with a survivor of said genocide and see the humanity in him, and then because of that, started asking questions and deconstructing his destructive worldview on his own. but that wasn’t enough!!! then he spent a whole season putting himself in mortal peril spying for the rebellion and trying to earn back his moral code and establish the rebellion’s faith in him, and even after he succeeded in that, even after he became a trusted spy, he STILL had to get the shit kicked out of him by heroes and villains alike before finally escaping the empire for good, bruised and bloodied, and THEN HE STILL got mocked and put in his place by teenagers and old soldiers, making sure his ego stayed humble and THEN, BECAUSE THAT WASNT ENOUGH EITHER, HE HAD A GAY HONEYMOON HAPPY ENDING WITH THE MAN WHO GOT HIM TO DEFECT IN THE FIRST PLACE. he even respected women. he was even voiced by david oyelowo. literally characters of all time. kyle ron could never

I’m once again thinking about how Loki never told a single fucking soul that he was not only captured but tortured by Thanos over the period of a year before the battle of New York. He never told anyone!!!! Not Thor, when he asked where he got the scepter, not Odin when he was on trial, not Frigga when she chided his actions, not even Mobius when he was laying out his life’s failures before him??? Not a single person ever heard or found out about that incredibly long agonizing period of his life and how clearly that altered the course of his life and his motivations!!!!!!! Hell, he died by Thanos’s fucking hand and Thor still didn’t have any idea why.

Ezra Bridger was the most character ever. He was 14 and an orphan, he got adopted by some rebels in a mom van, he had a funky face scar, he unlocked his strongest abilities with compassion, he was courageous despite overwhelming anxiety, he was born to be an annoying little brother, he collected imperial helmets, he hijacked an armed tank to steal some fruit, his pseudonym was “Jabba the Hutt”, he was SWANA-coded*, he told off a Grand Admiral to his face, he fell into the Dark Side and pulled himself out of it, he handmade a lightsaber that was also a gun, he couldn’t fly a jetpack for shit, he was friends with 700 cats and several dozen whales, he survived encounters with Maul, Darth Vader, and Palpatine himself, he was buddies with Ahsoka Tano and Hondo Ohnaka, he couldn’t save his teacher, he let his adopted sister paint his helmets, he successfully liberated his home planet from a full scale fascist occupation, and every goddamn day I miss him
*disclaimer: I can’t find any actual details on which ethnicity Ezra is specifically based on/inspired by, but the majority of fan headcanons pertaining to this seem to fall under this category!

My #1 post of 2022
the main thing I’ve gathered from the Pacific Rim director’s commentary is that, even though a lot more of PacRim was done with CGI than I had realized, it still holds up almost 10 years later because of how intentional Guillermo Del Toro was with building in details, flaws, weathering and environmental factors, and, primarily, love and respect into every single model.
He helped animate every single creature and robot by hand on his tablet, he praised the animators for every single shot and talks about how brilliant they are, how hard they worked on every detail, he treats all of them like human beings, like geniuses, just as integral to the film as himself and the actors. The animators themselves talk about how intentional and detailed his ideas were, how helpful and insightful he was when he spoke to them about changes, when he came to them with new ideas.
There’s also a hell of a lot of practical effects woven in, which add to the believability, but the CGI holds up first and foremost because he saw it as an art form to be cultivated and loved just as fiercely as everything else, not a ‘wow’ effect to be slapped in for budget cuts.

What I Missed - Loki Laufeyson
summary: while in custody at the TVA, loki realizes what he misses from the future, only to be surprised by what he gets in the present
word count: 2100+
warnings: a little angsty, a little emotional, mention of loki’s death, episode 1 spoilers
Tumblr media
Today was certainly not Loki’s day.
Over the course of a few hours (or more, or less, this is the TVA, afterall) he had been in the custody of the Avengers, had happened upon the Tesseract and escaped from New York. It seemed too good to be true, and it was. Just when he thought he had truly outsmarted the Earthly heroes again, he was imprisoned and taken again.
Now here he was, under the supervision of the Time Variance Authority and one, Mobius, a bizarre administrator in charge of tracking down the most dangerous of variants. It all seemed like madness to Loki. He was used to silly games and grandiose tricks but this story of timelines and space lizards seemed beyond even his own trickery. It seemed downright absurd. And annoying.
He had been subject to what he would call an interrogation. Mobius, however, called it a simple conversation. A slideshow of his life, his “greatest hits” as Mobius had called it and a relentless fire of questions, the memory of which continued to burn in his memory:
Should you return, what are you going to do?
King of Midgard? Then what, happily ever after?
King of Space?
Why does someone with so much capability just want to rule?
Do you enjoy hurting people?
That one had burned most of all. Did he enjoy hurting people? Hardly. And it was upsetting to him that anyone would think that. But he also understood what he appeared to be to every other living creature. He had just relived the moment in which he killed that daft agent and his mother. His mother. He refused to believe he was at fault for that. Frigga was the only person who truly saw him and whom Loki cared for deeply. But it seemed so clear in the moving picture, he had led them right to her.
It was in that moment, with tears and rage in his eyes, he knew he needed to get out of the disastrous time circus. He no longer cared to be a monkey in this ring. If he could find the tesseract, he could escape and be free once again.
That plan had gone almost perfectly. The only thing that went wrong - there is no magic in the TVA. No matter how many times he held the tesseract in his hands, wishing it to take him back to Midgard or Asgard, he was met with nothing but the bland walls in this TVA Time Theater. There was no hope in escaping.
Feeling exhausted, Loki slowly moves toward the table in the center of the room. He sits down and admires the machine in front of him. As grim as the stories it held could be, it was still quite fascinating that it could replay the highlights from his life - in a weird way, at least. He reaches out and turns the knob, searching for the moment his mother dies. He finds it and watches in silence for a while, tears beginning to fall down his face.
He turns the knob again.
He sees a future version of himself sitting next to his father and Thor. He watches as his father declares his love for his sons. Sons, plural. Both Thor and him. A small smile graces Loki’s face before Odin disappears, leaving the two men behind. Loki holds back a sob as tears continue to flood from his eyes. His father did love him, did see purpose for him. He wasn’t just the mischievous son. He’s sad that it took this long to understand that, and sad that he never got to experience this himself, even if a future version of him did.
Another turn of the knob.
This scene immediately feels different. He sees a garden, full of life, beautiful flowers blooming in every direction. He sees himself, sitting under a tree smiling next to a young woman. As the scene progresses he realizes this version of him is smiling at you. He lets out a small gasp when he watches the pair share a kiss and wipes the quickly falling tears from his cheeks. He had always loved you, but had never gotten the chance to tell you. The two of you had met through Thor, when he brought both you and Jane to Asgard. He had taken to you quickly, enjoying your similar sarcasm and humor - something that was scarce within his home realm. You, like his mother, had always seen the good in him and had understood his struggle. It was something he would never understand, you being of Midgard. You knew what he had done and had been there to see the destruction, but still saw him not as the God of Mischief or Earth Enemy #1, only Loki. He aches for the fact that he never got to feel the happiness his future self did, especially when it was happiness with you.
Turn the knob.
Loki and Thor stand in a room together. Loki lets out a small laugh in the midst of his tears, wondering how his oaf of a brother managed to lose an eye. Maybe a dumb bet between the two of them, maybe there was a battle amongst the nine realms. He’s quickly pulled from his thoughts as he hears Thor speak.
“Maybe you’re not so bad after all, brother.”
“Maybe not,” the future Loki responds.
“Thank you,” Thor replies, “If you were here, I might even give you a hug.”
“I’m here.”
Loki smiles and nods to himself. From where he’s sitting now, it’s a wonder that he and his brother ever made up. He realizes now that the fighting and the sibling rivalry may have all been in his head. He, again, curses himself for leaving New York and allowing himself to miss these moments that he’s been waiting his whole life for.
Fast-forward.
He and you lay in a room, seemingly on the same ship as the previous scene. You lay snug against his chest, his arms wrapped tightly around you. You hum softly before speaking up.
“I love you, you know.”
By the look on both of your faces, it’s the first time this has been said out loud. There’s nervous tension in the room, Loki can feel it through this screen. He somehow knows the words his future self is going to say before he hears them.
“I love you too, darling. You bring out the best in me.”
You snuggle closer to him, if that’s even possible, and there’s a comfortable silence for a few seconds. Loki takes a moment to admire this picture. It was something he had wanted since he had first met you on Asgard. You had stuck out like a sore thumb, dressed in your casual Midgardian clothes. He couldn’t have missed you even if he tried, nobody could have. And boy was he glad about that now.
“Promise me something,” he watches himself say.
“Anything,” you whisper. “Anything for you, Loki.”
“Promise me, no matter what, you’ll always help me see the good in myself. I’ve too long suffered at the hands of those who desperately wish for me to see the bad.”
You let out a laugh and the Loki stuck in time laughs with you, “Oh, Loki. I wish you could see yourself as I see you. But I promise.”
“Thank you, my love.”
“You, Loki, may be a God, but you will always just be the man I fell in love with. The good, kind, and honorable man I call mine.”
Turn, again.
Loki sees himself kneeling and before he can question why, he watches as his future self moves to attack someone in front of him. When Loki realizes it's Thanos, he’s quickly on his feet, moving closer to the screen. The tears are gone now, and a silent rage burns behind his eyes. There was nothing from Loki but hate for the purple titan. He watches in horror as Thanos picks Loki up from the floor, a death grip on his neck. Loki wonders to himself how he would get himself out of this scenario had he been there. He assumes an illusion would do the trick. However, he notices your distraught figure behind the mad titan. He can hear your screams as you kneel next to Thor, who is imprisoned in cuffs. He hears you call out to him and he knows this will not end well. His suspicions are right when he watches his death. A shocked gasp comes from his throat as the tape in front of him runs out, nothing left to show.
Loki quickly sits back down and closes his eyes, trying his hardest to process the vision he saw. To one version of him, these would have been experiences and now memories. To him, though, these were all subtle tastes of a life he lost. He lost a touching moment with his father and a long awaited declaration of love from him. He lost the reconciliation with his brother and the confession that they had been more partners than rivals. Even though to him it had not yet happened, he missed it all, and it upset him deeply.
What hurt Loki the most was the idea that he lost his chance to feel his love reciprocated. Loki had never had much luck with romance. He was often seen as the sly younger brother and was usually too occupied to try and compete with Thor for the maidens at court. When he met you, he thought he had a chance. You were the first woman who saw him as his own person and not just as Thor’s brother. The relationship between the two of you had blossomed quickly and he found himself always sneaking away from his princely duties to see you. He had shown you his favorite places in Asgard and had opened up to you in ways he had never done before. He loved you and wanted you to be his. His one regret was not initiating a relationship before you had left for Midgard. And he thought his chances had been ruined by his actions in New York. Oh, how wrong he was.
Before Loki can dwell on his future more, Mobius comes bursting into the room.
“Ah Loki, glad you made your way back here. I have something for you,” he says.
“If this is another one of your tricks, I’m not currently in the mood,” Loki responds coolly.
“Just trust me on this one.”
Mobius shouts over his shoulder for someone to “bring her in.” Loki eyes the guards who walk in suspiciously until he notices who they bring with them. He can hardly believe his eyes. The gods in all the realms must be smiling down on him today, after all, because there you stand. He takes in your hideous red and white space suit, emblazoned with the Avengers logo, and he’s at least thankful he missed whatever battle this suit was required for.
He quickly stands and rushes over to you, a smile quickly gracing his face. You meet his gaze with a smile that is just as big and tears begin to flow from your eyes.
“Loki,’ you start. “Is that really you?”
He nods and speaks, although his words are barely audible, “It’s me, my love.”
“God, I thought I lost you forever. That’s why I went back in time to find you.”
Loki nods, now, unable to believe what he’s hearing, “You went back to find me?”
“Yes, but look what good that did me,” you say with a smirk. Loki’s heart pulls and he feels he could fall over right there. Norns, he missed you and your witty humor.
“Well,” he says, reciprocating your sly attitude, “You found me did you not? I might not be the same Loki as you knew, but I am still Loki.”
“The good, kind, and honorable Loki that I call mine.”
Loki smiles and you move forward to give him a hug. You’re cautious, though, because you aren’t exactly sure what part of the timeline this Loki came from. Maybe you had already been dating, maybe not. That was something to figure out another time though.
“Alright then,” Mobius says from behind you, “Let’s get you two caught up on what you missed with each other.”
Today was certainly not Loki’s day. And he had cursed all that was good that he had ended up at the TVA, taken from the life he knew. But now? He didn’t mind. He knew the relationships that were broken with his brother and father had been mended, he knew that one version of him had sacrificed himself for good and he had you, not only in memory but in the flesh. And sure, you had lots to rediscover within your relationship, but you would do that together.

Thanos had a strong grasp around his neck, his hand coiled around the expanse, whilst Thor was restrained by Maul. "The sun will shine on us again brother." Loki spoke, unable to gouge his sibling's reaction, for that was his end. A crack, a vigilant snap, and that was it; he knew what had become of him. He was no more the figure of a god, merely an ideology that was to no longer walk upon the galaxy, and flying through a bifrost light until he came to be standing on a ground he had never seen before. It was so green, more so than his armour or his eyes, the ripest life he had ever seen in any ecosystem.
And in truth, there was a sun, brightly glaring down upon him as he succumbed to his death. Loki did not have it in mind to die, but it was the event that he had received for trying to save the last of his family. He was usually seen as the villain, but his last act had been one of a hero, and in the reality that he had lived, there had been no ambient bulb from the sky that shon and gave him peace. But seeing that his brother had not joined him in this land he was relieved; there was a chance that the God of Thunder still lived and breathed and that was all that he could hope for.
"I saw you coming." Heimdall appeared, his amber eyes boring into the God of Mischief as his head bowed. Apparently his tricks of his born trade had not parted well for him, or either of them. They had been foolish to ever believe that they could beat a Titan with his Black Order, and now here they were paying for their failures. A sad smile tugged at Loki's features, rather than being annoyed by the statement, he was comforted by it. It was something that had often irritated the Prince but now he no longer had a reason to showcase that behaviour.
Here there was no king that he could not become, there was no land that he was stolen from therefore proving him to be a true Odinson for ending up here, and there were no immortal wars and battles that he would get entangled in. "I know you did." Loki replied with a succumbed smile of sadness, seeing the world before him submerged in nothing but beauty and tranquility. "Where is my mother?" He asked, wishing to know of her whereabouts. Because of him, she was dead, and he wanted to ensure that she had no hard feelings about his crude, scheming mistake.
"On the lake with Odin." Heimdall managed a sturdy hand against Loki's shoulder to refrain him from running to them then and there. "They are fine Loki. However there appears to be someone else here that I am certain that you have not forgotten." The magician gulped, already presuming the name that would spill from the Bifrost Keeper's lips. "Y/n, goddess of fidelity. She is has been here all this time, waiting until you join her. It seems that she kept fidelity towards everyone but you; no one suspected that she would continue to remain loyal in the afterlife, but with you it appears that she is willing to go against her beliefs."
And there it was. Another whom he cared about that had been so ruthlessly torn from him. Y/n, his wife who has unfortunately parted from him in a rouse of angry soldiers who she chose not to defy. Life had been a strained prospect to continue without her, he had even doubted that their beliefs would allow her to pass onto this plain, however it appeared they had and he couldn’t have been more glad. Loki mirrored Heimdall’s stride and also placed a hand on his shoulder, as though they were family.
“Where might I find her?” He enquired, desperate to see his beloved for another time. It took a moment for the Norseman to answer, but when he did, Loki thanked him and bolted straight to said area. By the fornication of brambles that was peaking on the hill by the waterfall. Running through this world, Loki found he had the endurance of all other soldiers he had lived and died with, he wasn’t getting tired, it was like a rush of exhilaration passed through his veins during his adventure to rejoice in a reunion.
As he came significantly closer to the said area, smoke brewed, hinting at a fire. When he walked through the small woods that were in his way, he saw a woman seated by said flames, her head pulled back and eyes shut. There was no denying it, he recognised this woman, it was y/n! “I have been waiting for the time that you showed my love. The years have dragged by like the tail of a king’s cloak. I have-“ She couldn’t quite find it in herself to say that she had missed him, she had always had troubles expressing her emotions, but Loki came and sat behind her as her eyes peeled open, and placed his hand atop of her own.
“I know darling.” He spoke for her, each day that had passed without her presence being worse than torture itself. “But we made it to Valhalla, and now that is all that matters. And now I shall wait until my sibling breathes his last breath like the withering of a dying star, and I will have every person I care about here. No more death or suffering, for we cannot be demised or separated in this world. I remember as a child my father would tell me and Thor of it, and how beautiful it was supposed to be, and now I can finally see true gold as you my wife are here too.”
“It is good to see you once more Loki, and I am relieved that there will be no more parting from one another, and that we have stuck to our vows of finding each other in Valhalla when it is all over. It is rather strange, I find myself to be more optimistic here, we have eternity ahead of us and I don’t want to waste a single second, I want to make each one count.” His grip on y/n’s hand tightened, their fingers combing to pass into a hold together as the raven haired god leant in closer, his breath simmering against the complexion of her cheek.
“And we shall, how about we start our forever right this second?” His hand combed through her braided locks, running along the surface of her scalp as he lovingly turned her head, their noses accidentally bumping together. “Þú getur lyft hammanum mínum hvenær sem er, ef þú veist hvað ég meina.” Loki’s head dipped to capture her lips as they laid beneath the sun together, it setting into a beautiful set of oranges and beacons of diverted light as he leant atop of his wife, making up for all the time that they had lost throughout the last one hundred years.
Her hands peeled at his clothing, bearing him down to the same nudity that he had been born into the world to. He repeated the actions upon her, leaving their flesh in a crushing clash that remotely emitted their emotions to one another. Hands were thrown into long locks, ankles were held around waists, hands were knotted together in a matrimony as the world became lost to them, and they adorned each other in lustrous kisses to emphasises how much they had missed each other. They had truly found Valhalla, and it was an opportunity to see out their marriage together and make a copious amount of new memories that would spin within this realm for all time.
Whispers of pleasure sung among the birds, greeting the newcomer to his new home. Loki had always been scared of death but the outcome of a natural passing only proved that all along he had had nothing to fear, it had only lead to a warm fire and a wolf skin beneath him, as well as the company of almost everyone that he cared for. He’d wished he could have fought Thanos with smarter tactics but he held no regrets, he had a feeling that in the long run that the Titan would not spur a win, and that eventually the avengers would bring him to his own end.
And whilst he was not a particular fan of the mad executioner, he only wished that he could be brought this same peace, and realise that all that bad he did lead to no good in the nine realms. Like Loki, he would see his extinct family again, and regret the trouble that he had brought. Loki was no martyr, or hero, or soldier. He would always be a trickster and if this ending were a trick, if he were manipulated to think that he had made it to Valhalla, he was okay with that. He had everything that he had wanted right here, saying his name with no remnants of fidelity.
Þú getur lyft hammanum mínum hvenær sem er, ef þú veist hvað ég meina - You are my Valkyrie, and I would follow you across the nine realms and into eternity

Might I ask, how would you have liked Loki or how do you think Loki would have acted in Ep. 3? I feel like his behavior was weird and I feel like maybe he would have done things a little differently. Like the train and the end and everything in-between just felt off. I ask this because this is the most we see him with someone else for the first time (not counting Mobius) and they were already trying to hint at a relationship already it seemed. How do you think he would have actually behaved and how things actually would have happened with him or should have happened? Like with Sylvie and just in general and how events would have happened if he acted like himself (Not sure if any of this makes any sense but i like reading your posts and you ideas)
Thank you dear 😉 (sorry, this got long!)
Personally I find it hard to believe his first instinct would be to team up and be allies with Sylvie, and not because she's a variant of him but because he doesn't know her at all? You think he would team up with a stranger he has no control over when he has not enough information about what she can do, what her powers are? That's a recipe for disaster.
And Loki doesn't trust easily either. At that point he's fresh from Thanos and the NYC invasion, his brother has been fighting against him, Mobius has blamed him for Frigga's murder and Odin is dead (and it's likely he thinks Thor is dead as well after that shot of IW). Loki's state of mind in that moment is fragile as all hell: what does he have left, especially now that he knows his timeline has been pruned and he can't go back? He has absolutely nothing and no one.
[As an aside, if Loki had been acting like himself he would have spent ep1 not answering a damn thing, messing with Mobius and faking sadness to manipulate him, he wouldn't have believed a damn word said to him just like the tape he saw would probably meant very little to him because images can be edited out. He's in a place where infinity stones have no power! Editing videos would be the easiest thing for them. But since he was ooc pretty much from the get-go...]
So I can see him going all in against the TVA. Taking into account his magic and the fact that he's a powerful sorcerer he would get in Sylvie's head and extract as much intel as possible, then depending on the info he'd probably form an allyship with her so they can both destroy the TVA or he'd just grab the Tempad and do it himself.
I think it would have been fun if he went from one agent to another telling them they're variants and getting in their heads like he did with Valkyrie in Ragnarok, form an alliance with them instead of Sylvie and have them fight Ravonna and Mobius while he goes to kill the Time Keepers.
What I know for sure is that he wouldn't waste time with the train and he wouldn't open up to a stranger who could use that info against him. He'd keep the upper hand at all times. At that point once he knows about the golden doors what is stopping him from leaving Lamentis, going straight to the Time Keepers and killing them? He doesn't need Sylvie for that. Just like he wouldn't be so preoccupied with telling Mobius the truth, why would he care after that godawful ep1?
With him being silly in the train... again, that doesn't make any sense either. The situation in Pompeii was different because his life wasn't in danger at all, he was there with Mobius and he knew they would escape before anything bad would happen. Because he can trust Mobius? Hell no, because he knows Mobius needs him. So despite how much I didn't like how exaggerated his behaviour was there, I can understand him letting go and being silly since he knows his life is not in danger. But in Lamentis it's exactly the opposite: there's a high chance he might not make it and the only way to survive it is to keep a low profile (and he has his magic? he can change clothes? he can shape-shift into whatever he wants? the fight makes no sense at all?!!). And what's even worse, he breaks the Tempad after getting drunk? 🙄
The train and wasting time charging the Tempad and all that bullshit could have been easily removed. Sylvie is introduced only to help further the story so that Loki finds out about the golden doors, she's pruned in the meantime and goes to the Void, Loki returns to the TVA, tells the agents they're variants (ensuring they turn against Ravonna et al, an organization that can't control its workers is doomed) and kills the Time Keepers, finds out about the Void, prunes himself, meets with Sylvie again who introduces him to their other variants, they all team up to defeat Alioth, Loki gives his variants the Tempad so they can escape and go back to their timelines meanwhile him and Sylvie head to the Citadel as allies, no need for "superior variant" bullshit. Oh and in ep6 they talk it out, decide not to kill HWR who gets super angry because that's not the script he wanted so he had to kill himself. Suck it up, idiot.

Handcuffed together: 8 The party
Tumblr media
The party
Today was the day that Steve finally woke up. When you heard the news your ran to the medbay, you had to see for yourself. Steve smiled brightly when he saw you and you engulfed him in a big hug. He grunted, still in pain and you loosened your grip.
‘Sorry’ you apologised. ‘How are you feeling?’
‘Like I have a hang-over, something I haven’t had in a very long time’ he smiled to himself. ‘I will be ok, (Y/N)’ he said. ‘Thanks for saving me’
‘Ehm.. actually, Loki did most of the work’ you admitted.
Steve frowned ‘Loki can do that?’
‘Yep, he’s teaching me currently’ you said.
Steve just laughed. ‘What’s so funny?’ you asked a bit wary.
‘To think a few weeks back we had to handcuff the two of you together, and now you are constantly with each other and he is even teaching you. It’s funny’ he said. ‘Are you sure there is nothing more to it?’
You hoped your face didn’t look as red as you think it looked. ‘Yes, just friends’ you replied a bit nervously.
‘I heard something else from Natasha’ he said.
‘What did you hear from her?’ you asked.
‘Apparently, Loki was quite cross with his brother the last mission. Hate to have missed that, I never knew Loki could be boyfriend material’ he answered.
Right before you could reply, the devil himself walked in. ‘Captain’ he nodded curtly.
‘Loki’ Steve said back as curtly as Loki.
‘How are you?’ Loki asked.
‘Great, thanks for helping me’ he said.
You saw for a quick second the surprise on Loki’s face. He wasn’t used to being thanked.
‘You’re welcome’ he replied hesitantly. Then he turned his attention to you. ‘You’re late’ he said.
‘Well, Steve was waking up. So, I think that is a good excuse’ you replied.
Before Loki could reply, Steve intervened. ‘Oh, don’t let me keep her from you. Go, (Y/N). I will see you tonight, Tony is already planning a big party’ he said while rolling his eyes. Loki looked very pleased, you rolled your eyes but followed the God to the training room.
Later that night
To say that Tony was throwing a big party, was quite the understatement. There were more people in the tower than you ever saw. The music was barely audible over the loud conversations, and alcohol was flowing freely. You had a blast, partying, and dancing with the rest of the team. Even Loki seemed to have a good time, mostly talking to people. He did scare a few of them, but that was to be expected from the God of Mischief. Halfway through the night, the party finally seemed to come to an end. Most of the team was sitting on the couch. Bruce went to bead early and Clint didn’t attend the party.  You and Tony were quite intoxicated. You noticed Loki watching you like a hawk. You actually wanted to sit on his lap, but you didn’t know if you were ready for everyone to know. Whatever you could call what you and he were doing. Even tough, most of the team knew that something was up already, thanks to Loki.
The sound of the alarm and the red warning lights had everybody on high alert in an instance.
‘J.A.R.V.I.S., what is going on?’ Tony yelled to the AI.
‘There are some unknown individuals down in the lab, sire’ the AI replied.
‘Shit, that can’t be good. Right, ehm.. everyone who can still function properly, split up. We will cover every entrance to the lab and trap them there’ Tony yelled.
Even tough Tony gave the command, he was clearly to drunk to actually put on his suit. The only people who were capable were Thor, Loki, Steve, and Natasha. Steve had ordered the rest to stay put and the four of them went downstairs to the lab. So, you were left on the couch with Tony. The alarm didn’t stop and you heard explosions. After a while, the doors of the room you were sitting in burst open. Loki was quickly advancing at you, and you immediately noticed that something was off. Before you could react he grabbed you by the throat and lifted you into the air. You panicked, you couldn’t breathe anymore and no matter how much you struggled against his grip, he was too strong for you.
It took a moment for Tony to react. He sprinted towards Loki, in an attempt to tackle him. But Loki just slapped Tony out of the way and he went flying across the room. You tried to plead but didn’t have a voice anymore. Thor finally burst through the doors and flew at Loki. You fell down on the ground hard but didn’t care. You were gasping for air and tried to stay conscious. Natasha was by your side in a second and Steve went to help Thor.
‘Are you okay?’ Natasha asked
‘Y- yeah, but what?’ you barely could make audible.
Before she could answer you saw Loki in your eyeline again. He advanced towards you. You saw Steve and Thor both on the ground grunting. Natasha stood up, putting her body between you and Loki, but he pushed her away hard. The only thing you could do, was cower in fear. Suddenly Thor’s hammer slammed into Loki’s head and he fell down. To your relief he was unconscious. It took a moment for the whole team to get up and walk towards you and Loki. Thor extended his hand and helped you to your feet. He pulled you close and you hold onto him for dear life. You couldn’t help but starting to cry.
‘It’s okay. When he wakes up he will be normal again’ Thor whispered while stroking your hair.
‘WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?’ Tony yelled to Thor.
‘We don’t exactly know. But they got to him, it wasn’t his fault’ Steve said quickly.
‘What do you mean they got to him?’ Tony wanted to know.
‘I don’t exactly know. But when we split up, Loki found the creatures first. They talked to him, there was some weird energy surrounding him. Then he stormed of to here and the creatures just disappeared’ Thor explained. You could feel his voice vibrating through his body.
‘Did you recognize them or heard anything?’ Steve asked.
Thor just shook his head. Everybody’s attention switched when Loki started to groan and grab his head. He slowly sat up right, while everybody watched him intently. He blinked a few time and scanned his surroundings. He looked a bit disoriented. Suddenly, he looked at you with horror. You looked away and tightened your grip on Thor, to your relief he did the same.
‘I think you have some explaining to do’ Natasha said.
‘You’re not going to attack again?’ Tony asked.
‘No’ Loki replied, you could tell he was struggling. ‘I- I’m so sorry. I don’t know where to start’ he said. ‘I need to leave’
He quickly got to his feet, but swayed a little. Getting hit in the head with Mjölnir had his effect on him. Thor grabbed your arms and guided you towards Steve. You put your arms around him and Steve let you. Thor walked towards Loki. ‘You’re not leaving, sit down’ he sat strictly. He pushed Loki backwards and he fell onto the couch.
‘I need to leave’ Loki said desperately. He got up right, but Thor pushed him back down. You could tell he was exhausted and didn’t have much strength at the moment.
‘Tell us what happened if you need to leave afterwards you can’ Natasha said.
‘That’s a lie’ Loki replied.
It was silent for a long time. Everybody was looking at Loki, wating for him to speak. Loki was visibly struggling to find the words, that was rare. ‘Alright. It’s quite a long story’ he said.
‘We have all the time we need’ Tony replied.
‘You actually don’t, but anyway.. there is someone out there who is collecting all the infinity stones. And his minions were looking for the sceptre’ he said.
When he didn’t continue Thor asked ‘Who?’
‘He is named Thanos’ Loki replied.
‘What happened down there between you and them?’ Natasha asked.
Loki gritted his teeth. ‘They.. they put me in a trance’ he said.
‘Why did you attack, (Y/N)?’ she went on.
‘It’s complicated’ he replied.
‘Try me’ she quipped back.
Loki looked away, ashamed. ‘My first intention wasn’t to come here and play the hero’ he said.
‘I KNEW IT!’ Tony exclaimed! ‘I knew we shouldn’t trust you’
‘Shut up, Stark’ Thor boomed. ‘Loki?’ he asked.
‘Look, I convinced Odin to let me come here to ‘redeem’ myself for my actions. I was planning on escaping and starting over elsewhere… but Thanos contacted me and gave me another chance. So, I was stuck here’ he explained.
‘Another chance? At what?’ Natasha asked.
‘Collecting the mindstone, after that the Tesseract from Asgard’ he said.
‘I’m not buying it. How could they manipulate you so easily?’ Tony asked sceptically.
‘Once you’ve been under mindcontrol for a while, it’s easier to control the same person again’ Loki said.
‘When were YOU under mindcontrol?’ Tony snorted.
‘New York’ Loki said, still gritting his teeth.
‘Bullshit, we won’ Tony said.
‘I intentionally lost, there is a difference’ Loki said angrily.
‘Alright, why do you need to leave then?’ Natasha asked. ‘And don’t you dare lie to us’ she added.
‘To speak the truth, my first intention was to grab the stones and kill you in the process. Thor would grief too much to notice the attack on Asgard and after that I would be free’ he said, still not being able to look at the team. After a pause he continued. ‘But.. I didn’t expect.. I mean, I hadn’t planned on. You know, not wanting to kill you all.. so, I thought my best chance was to help you and if Thanos came defeat him’ he said.
‘We will circle back to the killing us part, but the latter sounds like reasonable? What changed?’ Natasha inquired further.
‘I’m okay with Thanos killing me. But today they told me they wouldn’t. They would use me to kill her and then keep me alive until I die naturally, should I fail’ he said while fumbling his hands.
You just stared in shock at Loki, but he wouldn’t meet anyone’s gaze. ‘So, I need to leave’ he said then. Everyone stayed silent.
‘No’ you whispered, breaking the silence. You felt everyone’s eyes on you but couldn’t care less. The only eyes you stared into were Loki’s. A mix of horror, pain, hurt, hope and love danced over his face. He was trying hard to hold back tears, it shocked you to see the always so dominant and in control man reduced to this. You slowly walked towards him and to your surprise he backed away on the couch.
‘Don’t’ he whispered, his voice croaking a little.
You ignored him. You sat beside him on the couch and put your arms around him. He didn’t react for a minute. But then he put his arms around you, pulled you close and hang onto you for dear life.
The moment was ruined when Steve started to speak ‘All right, ehm. This is a lot. And still a bit vague. Maybe, we should go to bed and Loki, tomorrow you tell us everything. Every detail, only the truth. After that we will come up with a plan’
Loki let go of you and looked at Steve ‘The truth is, it would be easier for me to leave. That would fix all your problems’ he said.
‘You’re part of the team, and we look out for each other. So, the answer is no. And if you even think about leaving I will personally track you down and put you behind bars again, just to keep you here’ Natasha replied.
Loki cocked an eyebrow, surprised by this reaction. Most of the team just nodded, Tony however looked at the ground. ‘When you decided not to kill us anymore, your highness’ Natasha answered his silent question when he kept looking at her. Adding a bit of humour to lighten the mood.

What’s with this story of loki being power hungry and narcissistic and betraying people in the disney+ show. If anyone is narcissistic it’s odin and loki is a scapegoat. I distinctly remember his line in the thor movie “I never wanted the throne I only ever wanted to be your equal” and him caring very much about asgard. I thought after the hulk smash in avengers he’d get the thanos brainwashing off like hawkeye and thor would ask him again why he’s acting out like that. It seems quite obvious he’s behaving erratically. His stuttgart speech mirrors ebony maw’s in infinity war and marvel says loki is under the mind stone influence from the scepter like the avengers were on the helicarrier. I have wanted to watch the loki series so i watched the first thor movie and avengers and it seems odd. This loki in the tv show reminds me a bit of the loki from the comics but i wouldn’t like the mcu loki to turn into comic loki, comic loki is already their own person and the mcu loki actor did a good job of establishing the mcu loki. I like the “shakespeare in space with dramatic flair” thing of the thor movies, there’s lots of other heroes who can be not like that, there’s no need to abandon the flair and make the asgardians like everyone else. I would have liked an entire shakespeare drama in space series. Disney has so many franchises it could afford to risk a more dramatic genre too.

Loki wondered what his cell on Asgard would look like, for surely he’d be transferred there any day now. For three days now, he’d been held in the belly of a SHIELD base in these ridiculous cuffs. Tony had, at least, sent down that drink Loki had asked for. Whether it was a taunt or a small bit of kindness, Loki honestly wasn’t sure. Either way, he’d downed it in one gulp; Midgardian alcohol never having a strong effect on him. Honestly, he probably should have been concerned if it was poisoned or not. Then again, after everything he’d been through, what did he care?
“Brother,” Loki greeted Thor as he walked into view. “How lovely of you to finally grace me with your presence. Though I take it this is not a leisure visit, hm?”
“You know full well it is not,” the God of Thunder replied with a stern tone.
“And here I was so hoping we could catch up.”
“If you want to talk, then talk, Loki. Explain yourself. What has transpired that you have attacked so many innocent people in this way?”
Loki wanted to laugh at that. Innocent? Who was Thor to talk of innocent with all the unrighteous battles he’d fought, all the blood spilled by his hands? The God of Mischief had done what? Attacked a military base? Made a few people kneel? Corralled a few groups into buildings? Which really was for the own safety so they wouldn’t be in the way of the battles on the streets. But no; conquest was apparently only just when Odin decided to do it. When Thor wanted to follow in his footsteps. But for Loki, there was a whole other set of rules. Of course, no one ever bothered to outline them for the trickster, just let him know he failed to obey them.
Besides, he hadn’t been in his right mind. Rather, he’d been under the mind stone’s influence, under Thanos’s control. He worked his jaw as he tried to figure out whether to say that or not. If he had any sense of self preservation, he probably would have. Yet after living his whole life being told he was weak, he couldn’t bring himself to do it. Whether Asgardian culture, his family, or he himself were to blame for that, he wasn’t sure. Still, best just to stick with his wit.
“Pardon, brother,” Loki finally replied. “If it bothers you that much, I will stop following your example.”
“You dare insinuate I would do such a thing?” Thor rhetorically asked, appalled and shocked now that his honor was called into question. “Truly, brother, your mind is far more twisted than I had imagined. I see now I should not have advocated for you; you are too far gone. And yet, I already have, so your second chance you shall have.”
“How benevolent,” Loki rolled his eyes.
In reality, Loki was actually kind of touched Thor had spoken on his behalf. It was more than he expected from the blonde. Though, he had a feeling he hadn’t been spoken of in the most flattering light. Regardless, Thor opened his cell and, accompanied by a couple agents, led him to the upper floors of of the base.
The light blinded Loki for a minute as he saw sunlight for the first time since he’d been locked up. The glares passing agents gave him did significantly less to burn him, though. He was used to scorn. Of course, he did feel a wave of regret as he realized he’d probably killed some of their colleagues, their friends. Even if he didn’t have control of himself, he’d still done it. Why did he have to be so weak as to let Thanos gain control of his mind, he wondered? Such horrid deeds had never been in his nature before, though it seemed Thor was ready to believe he’d been evil all along.
The brothers were silent the whole way to Fury’s office, even as they waited for the director to come in. From his seat in front of the desk, Loki surveyed the office. Nice enough, he mused, but could use some more color. Maybe some drapes. Loki wondered if he should laugh that that’s what he was thinking. Though, in all honesty, it might be a chuckle of relief, knowing that his thoughts were finally his own again.
When the director did finally walk in, he and Loki just eyed each other for a moment, sizing the other up. Loki was fairly confident he could get out of this room, out of this base, if he really wanted to. But what was even the point? He wasn’t particularly interested in playing a game of cat and mouse, as SHIELD would try desperately to recover him. No, he’d rather take whatever punishment was about to be doled out. At least for now, anyway.
“Well, thank you for having me,” Loki quipped, being the first to break the silence. “I am afraid I have never been much good at small talk, though. How about that weather?”
“Funny,” Fury deadpanned. “Glad you didn’t lose your sense of humor when you killed my men.”
Loki’s smile faltered ever so slightly. It seemed like people were going to keep bringing that up despite that it had not even been his intention to kill anyone. Injure and temporarily dispose of, sure, but not kill. He supposed that having been on the verge of collapse himself, he wasn’t able to be as precise as he usually was.
“That little stunt you pulled should have you locked up for life,” Fury continued before Loki could respond. “However, we are prepared to offer you a deal. You are going to work for SHIELD to make up for your crimes.”
“Ah. I see. So gracious of you. And my other options are?”
“You come with me back to Asgard,” Thor chimed in, “and father can do whatever he wants with you.”
Well, that created three possible paths, really, Loki figured. Be sent to Asgard and locked up there was option one. Then the second was to be sent back and killed. Was it bad he kind of hoped for the latter? Oh, it definitely was. Yet, that’s how he felt. And then he could stay here, play along until the opportunity came to break free. Live his life as he wanted for once.
“Alright,” Loki agreed with a smile that he was sure would be seen as more untrustworthy than anything else. “When do I begin?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A week of tedious lectures later, Loki was out in the field. He’d listened with rapt attention as he’d undergone his brief training. And somehow they deemed him trustworthy enough to send on a mission already. So, here he was in a Quinjet with his fellow agents. Maybe they didn’t entirely trust him. After all, Clint kept eyeing him with something akin to murder in his gaze.
Still, once they touched down, Loki followed the procedures he’d been taught. Thankfully, they hadn’t trusted him with any of the more important jobs, just securing the perimeter. That, of course, was a mistake on their part. As soon as it was time to break apart from the others, Loki created a double of himself. Meanwhile, he causally strutted over to a nearby motorcycle. Ok, he had to admit he didn’t really know how to ride one, but he’d make do.
Loki’s drive was surprisingly smooth as he escaped his would-be employers. The joke was on them for trying to tie him down, he thought. It was actually rather freeing to be racing along the open road, wind in his raven-black hair. Maybe he could find a nice little secluded home somewhere and live the rest of his days out in peace. And then he saw a burning building. Really, he should just keep going. You Midgardians had forces to deal with this. And yet, something made him pull over and rush inside, saving those he found trapped by the flames.
“I can never thank you enough,” a lady blubbered as she clung to her child, who Loki had just saved. “Please, what’s your name? How can I repay you?”
“You can call me, Loki,” he replied with a charming grin. “And really, no thanks necessary. It is just what I do.”
And as he rode off again, Loki decided he was going to make that last statement true. Look out, Midgard, he thought to himself. Looks like you have got yourself a new superhero.
Loki was sitting on a bed, staring with with almost lifeless eyes at the bed sheets he held fisted tight in his hands. Any second now...
As if summoned by Loki's thoughts, a figure popped into existence, all glowing blue skin and blue eyes dark as he walked over to Loki's still form.
Tess said nothing even as he sat down and wrapped his arms around Loki who didn't resist the comforting gesture, turning into Space's side.
"How are you feeling?" Tess asked finally once Loki was settled comfortably.
Loki tried to figure that out. He had been for over a year or so now. He wasn't sure entirely how much time had passed. If he was honest, he'd say he felt nothing. Empty and numb.
He didn't say that, only shrugged. It wasn't like he could lie. If he did, Tess would find out the truth from Soul who only needed to touch Loki's skin to find out what he was feeling and had done so before even when Loki had insisted on her to stop.
'For your own safety,' was all she said before violating his thoughts and feelings.
"Are you unhappy?" Tess asked with a slight frown, interrupting Loki's thoughts. "Is something wrong?"
'Yes,' Loki thought as he squeezed his eyes shut tight and shook his head.
Tess wasn't convinced. He never was. "If there is something you need or want, you can always ask us. We'll do whatever you need to be happy. You know we will."
Loki did know. That's what frightened him. He was scared to speak a word around them all anymore for the exact reason that they'd do anything neccessary for his own wellbeing.
They had killed Thanos after everything the Mad Titan had put Loki through to force him to attack New York to get Tess from those Midgardian's.
Power had been the one to bring back Thanos' decapitated head to Loki with the assurances that the Titan had suffered greatly before he died. Loki had both felt relieved and sick as he stared at Thanos' mutilated head, barely recognizable that if he hadn't been told it was Thanos he would never have guessed so.
Loki had been foolish to think it was a one time thing. He told himself they were all simply protective of him was all.
And Loki hadn't been lying. They all were protective of him. Very much so.
It was when Loki had let slip Odin's neglect and the hurt Loki had felt for never feeling good enough that he found at how much power and damage his words could cause if he wasn't careful. Loki had nearly been sick when Reality came to him, tossing a single blue eyeball in his hand as he explained what they'd done to the old king before ripping the one good eyeball from his eye socket and shortly after, killing him.
Loki learned to shut his mouth around them all, afraid of what they'd do to anyone else Loki spoke of that had hurt him. Yes, he felt some satisfaction that they were no longer able to hurt him but he couldn't enjoy it when he knew what they had gone through before they died. He never asked for anyone to die.
But then Loki started getting hurt. When he fought in battle against enemies or simply because he hadn't been paying enough attention to what he was doing.
They didn't like it at all. They all hated seeing Loki hurt and after Time mentioning seeing a time where Loki had died, they got even more paranoid. So they took him away from it all to somewhere they promised he'd be completely safe.
Loki had been furious at first. They couldn't just take him away from his life! But they had and they only gave Loki sad smiles when he screamed at them about betrayal.
Loki had tried to hurt himself, just to show they couldn't always protect him but found it impossible. He threw his fists at the wall but there was in invisible barrier between him and the wall that made it impossible to connect his fist. He tried scratching at his arms but the same thing happened. He tried to 'accidentally' trip but he never hit the floor, simply floating until he lightly touched the floor.
He couldn't injure himself.
So he screamed and he raged and he demanded to be let out of the room they'd stuck him in but nothing. They visited all the time but they never let him out again.
His anger had turned to a deep depression where he'd sit on his bed or on the floor and stare at the door across the room that never opened. A cruel joke to him, having a door that he couldn't open.
His magic was practically useless wherever he was. He'd tried to use it, even against his lovers who never got angry when something was thrown at them but seemed even more sad each time it happened. He couldn't use his magic to leave.
He was trapped.
Eventually, Loki accepted that he couldn't escape. Not by himself at least. He calmed down at any rate which had pleased the stones though Loki felt deadened inside.
The depression had gotten even worse after they killed his brother. Loki hadn't realized what he'd said until it was too late. It had been a simple mention of Thor always getting the attention and being Thor's shadow.
Loki hadn't been gifted with any body part of Thor's but the stones spoke about it to him, what they'd done before they killed him. Loki had been in horror and shock, unable to process that Thor was dead. He had been sick nearly over a month after that, walking up screaming from nightmares and crying whenever the stones tried to make him feel better. How could he ever feel better?
He'd gotten his brother killed.
After that, Loki had gone numb.
Tess visited the most. Loki had no idea where they went when they weren't with him but he found himself lonely when they weren't there. He normally wasn't left alone for long though. Despite everything, he still loved them. That's what he hated most about his situation. He shouldn't love them anymore but he did.
He did.
"Can I..." Loki swallowed hard, letting out a shaky breath. "Can I come out now? I'll...I'll be careful, I promise—"
Tess was already shaking his head, tightening his hold on Loki. "It's too dangerous. You could be hurt."
"Please, I'll be careful. I swear," Loki pleaded, becoming desperate every day he was trapped. He knew asking would do no good. Tess would never relent but he still got his hopes up even if it was for them to be crushed again.
"Hush, you're speaking nonsense. You're safe here," Tess shushed him.
Loki felt frustrated tears gather in his eyes. "But—"
"I said no," Tess said with a frown. "I let you have anything you want but you know the rules. You must stay here, where you're safe."
Loki went to speak again before another figure appeared right on the bed in front of them.
Loki shook his head, glancing away from Mind who looked at Tess. "Is everything okay? Why is he crying?"
Tess frowned deeply. "He wants to go outside again. It'll pass."
"Oh," Mind said before shaking her head as she drew closer. "That's too dangerous."
Loki wanted to scream but he only shook in Tess' hold as Mind reached for him, cupping his face between her hands.
"P-please, let me go," Loki whispered, tears slipping down his cheeks. "Please, d-don't—"
Mind hushed him as she kissed him softly, Loki making a weak noise of protest but could do nothing with Tess' arms crossed over his own.
Loki didn't see how Mind's hand pulsed a soft golden yellow, a trail of her power seemingly sinking into Loki's skin but he felt it as a sense of calmness and love for the people protecting him sink into his mind, making him go lax and pliant in Tess' arms.
"We love you," Tess murmured into his ear as Mind drew away and Loki took a shuddering breath.
"I...I love you all too," Loki said finally. Mind and Tess smiled at one another as Loki sighed and closed his eyes, relaxing fully into Tess' embrace.
He was safe. He had all of them to take care of him. He couldn't be hurt anymore.
Why would he ever want to go back outside?
People comparing Loki and Sylvie's trauma, are you aware that putting ones trauma over the others is inherently victim blaming and a completely unnecessary argument.
The amount of times i've seen people water down Loki's trauma to say that Sylvie's had a worse life is the most infuriating and genuinely hurtful things i've seen come out of the show.
Like for example, people will say "yeah, Lokis dad was shitty but he lived a life of LUXURY meanwhile Sylvie was RUNNING her WHOLE LIFE" life FUCK OFF. Trauma is trauma, no matter how bad, no matter if people have it "worse off" it's still TRAUMA.
It's inherently victim blaming to compare and contrast Sylvie and Loki's childhoods in such a way because no matter what your going to one victims hardship over the other, you'll call Loki overly sensitive for emotional abuse just to say that Sylvie's had a tough life, no matter how you cut it that's not okay.
This debate is pointless your doing nothing but invalidating victims of abuse just to elevate one character over the other.
You literally just.... don't have to do that, Sylvie having a bad childhood can coexist with Loki having a bad childhood, it does not matter who had it worse, in fact, its fucking impossible to measure who's had it worse because Loki and Sylvie's upbringings were so starkly different you can't compare them.
Sylvie was brought up in a family that was honest about her abduction adoption (though we don't know if Sylvie's Odin, Frigga, and Thor were anything like Loki's so I can't really say if she received the same treatment Loki did, though we can infer her parents were fair to her based on the fact they were honest from day one but then again we are given a pretty vague description of her life cause I think Mike Waldron just didn't fully think her backstory through cause there's so many holes in it) until she was taken by the TVA and spent the rest of her life on the run, bouncing around the timeline until she found out she could hide in apocalypses and plotted her revenge, got her plans temporarily thrown off by Loki, got retraumatized by getting captured and going back to the TVA, etc.
Loki was raised in an emotionally abusive and neglectful household, was taught that his own species were mindless monsters and grew up with war stories and bedtime stories of the monstrous frost giants, was well aware of his parents favoritism for his older brother, was bullied by quite literally everyone around him, committed suicide after figuring out his father could really care less about him, fell into the void was discovered by Thanos and tortured for a year, subsequently being sent to earth to invade it, was captured by the TVA, got tortured by Mobius where he got gaslit into believing he killed his FUCKING MOTHER, was forced to work for them, met Sylvie, almost died on Lamentis, got tortured AGAIN, etc (And this is just series Loki i could go on)
Their lives are so radically different that you cannot compare them, and if you try, you inevitably invalidate the other, I can say I think Loki's had it worse off because XYZ, and no matter how I phrase it I'd still be cherry picking Sylvie's trauma to make Loki's seem worse.
"Well, Sylvie's family actually loved her and she at least had a pretty decent childhood of luxury before the TVA so her life wasn't so bad🙄🙄 Loki's had it worse so the show should focus on it more🙄🙄"
No matter what you do, it invalidates the others trauma, it's not okay, it's victim blaming, and it's completely pointless because it does not MATTER who's had it worse, they both went through horrific things that they didn't deserve.
Quit making trauma a competition, it does nothing but create more grief and toxicity.
Loki x Reader - Thanos controls You
Warnings: angst, mentions of torture, mind-control, fighting, choking, blood and gore, more angst (it's a lot ok)
Word Count: 5,8K
Summary: After failing to deliver the Tesseract, Loki has been living in fear that Thanos will one day find him again and seek revenge. You have been missing ever since Loki was imprisoned after what he did in New York. Little did Loki know that you were with Thanos all along. During the events of Infinity War, Thanos makes you battle Loki in order to obtain the Tesseract
Author’s Note: I know Thanos doesn’t have the mind stone at the beginning of Infinity War but it’s fiction and I’m gonna do what Marvel does best, ignore canon. Let’s blame the Other’s powers, okay? Please enjoy this angsty little thing! :)
Tumblr media
YOUR POV
“There’s room for more!” Loki yelled over the cries of scared children and their crying families. There was no way he would send a half-empty escape pod on its way to Midgard. That’s when he saw a child all by herself a little further away. She was clinging onto the wall for dear life and the ship trembled due to the impact of getting shot at. Her parents were nowhere to be seen. Dead. Loki felt sick to his stomach when he knew they were most likely dead. Thanos’ children were slaying kids and their parents heartlessly and they had the audacity to say they were being rescued. That their deaths were part of something bigger than life itself.
They viewed Thanos as a god who was being merciful even when he ripped a beating heart out of someone's chest.
Loki’s heart clenched in his chest painfully. Before it would be too late, he made his way to the tiny child and picked her up carefully. She seemed to recognize the prince but she wasn’t afraid of him. Instead, she hugged Loki so she wouldn’t fall out of his grasp.
“Where’s mommy?” The girl sounded absolutely petrified.
Loki didn’t know what to say as he made his way to the pod. Once he reached it, he saw a woman by the entrance.
“You’ll be safe here,” Loki promised the child as he handed her over to the lady. That’s all he had time for as he returned to the corridor. A particularly loud blast made him stumble over his feet and he had to catch his balance by taking support from the metal wall. The lights flickered, which meant the electronics of the ship were injured. There was a strange smokey smell in the air, which lingered with the irony stench of blood.
Loki couldn’t believe this was happening. Had Thanos finally come for him? Or did Thanos somehow know of the tesseract? Either way, if Thanos succeeded, he would kill two birds with one stone. The thought of this being all his fault made Loki nauseous. Guilt was nibbling at his skin and he knew it would eat him alive in the end. He never wished for this to happen!
As he ran down the corridors frantically searching for Asgardians that needed help, he heard different kinds of cries. People were letting out guttural screams. Others were pleading for their lives. Listening to the massacre that was taking place was worse than any nightmare Loki ever recalled having. They were all drained after Ragnarok and now Thanos had found them. It was haunting how ruthless fate could be.
Footsteps began to approach Loki and they were awfully close. Too close for his liking. He was quick to grab his daggers and turn to face whoever dared try to sneak up on him. When he saw a familiar figure, he nearly dropped the blades from his hands. Seeing you there was like shock itself punched him in the face.
You were there, real and clear as day.
How long had it been since the last time he saw you?
Ever since Loki had found out about his true nature, his life had gone downhill. After he ended up with Thanos and went through pure hell with him, he had changed. During his time away from Asgard, he had only missed one person truly - you. You, who had been by his side through everything. You, who hadn’t loved him any less when you saw his deep blue skin and those crimson red eyes that in Loki’s mind resembled blood. You, who had seen him as the rightful king of Asgard when everyone else betrayed him. The light of his life, the angel that had cared for him even when he felt like a monster.
You, who hadn’t been on Asgard when Thor brought him back to face Odin in trial. Loki had spent a lot of time in his cell, alone. He waited for you to appear but you never did and no one ever told him why. They rather left him to drown in his own vicious thoughts. It wasn’t until Loki pretended to be Odin that he began to learn what had happened on Asgard during his exile.
The people at the palace loved to gossip. Some claimed you had stolen a ship and left Asgard behind for good, that living as Loki’s widow had been too hard for you. In Loki’s darkest hours, he wondered if you truly felt ashamed for being associated with him. So ashamed in fact, that you had left it all behind and started anew. Sometimes, he believed that, but it never stopped him from trying to find you. He had searched night and day but it seemed like you had vanished into thin air. It had killed him more every day living in the unknown. His only wish had been that you were okay.
Now there you were, looking like you had never left. In a moment of pure shock, Loki couldn’t even begin to comprehend how you appeared on the ship - seemingly out of nowhere. He was happy to see you, despite how appalling everything else was at that moment.
“Y/N,” Loki spoke your name softly and dared to blink. When you were still there as he opened his eyes, he felt goosebumps all over his skin.
You looked at him so innocently, but then he noticed that something was off. The look in your eyes was cold. You weren’t in your typical Asgardian gear. Instead, you were dressed in dark armour that Loki could’ve sworn he had seen before, but he didn’t know where. Nevertheless, it made him feel uneasy.
“It’s been a while, Loki,” You attempted a smile as you walked closer to him, your husband. It still counted since he had never truly died, right?
Loki didn’t stop you as you walked right up to him. His eyes never left yours. Part of him wanted to kiss you, to hold you and feel you were real, but the shrieks in the background reminded him of how dangerous everything was. The daggers disappeared from his hands and Loki held you by your shoulders. He needed to see that his hands wouldn't go right through you, that he hadn't lost it.
“You need to get off this ship, Y/N!” He told you seriously. There was profound fear in his voice.
Instead of being worried at all, you just smiled back at him.
That was so unlike you.
“Y/N, do you hear me?”
“Oh, I do,” You confirmed nonchalantly, “I’m not going anywhere. Not yet.”
A bloodcurdling cry startled Loki. They were coming closer and closer. The two of you wouldn’t be safe in that passageway for long. By now, his heart was racing with his thoughts. He felt panic settling into his bones.
Before Loki could say another word, you cupped his face rather gently. The fact that you didn’t seem disturbed by what was happening was eerie to Loki. He knew that you had a heart much bigger than anyone else he knew of. The version of you he remembered wouldn’t have been so calm. Something was terribly wrong.
“I need something,” You admitted and batted your eyelashes. Before, Loki would’ve found that quite adorable, but at that moment it was so wrong. He had been so ecstatic to see you and know you were alive, but now he almost wanted to run the other way.
“What?” Loki barely found his voice at that point. He felt sick and heartbroken. This had to be a nightmare, the worst kind.
“The Tesseract, Loki. I really need it,” You blurted it out.
Shivers ran down his spine. How did you know about it? Why did you even care? He was unsure if he could even trust you with the knowledge that he had it in his possession. Usually, he would’ve trusted you with his life without any hesitation, but you had been gone for years and returned like this, with bizarre motives.
You returned at the same time as Thanos and you were looking for the tesseract. Loki wasn’t a fool. He finally put two and two together and the realization was too arduous to believe. The idea of you and Thanos even meeting was something Loki could only see happening in his worst nightmares, but he was afraid it had already occurred. If so, he needed to hear it from you,
“Is Thanos making you do this?”
The tone of his voice seemed to offend you as you sent him a nasty glare. Your softness turned harsh and you pushed Loki against the metal wall with a loud thud. Before he could get out of the way, you grabbed your own dagger and pressed it against his neck so it was ever so slightly pressing against his exposed skin.
“He is not making me do anything. I am glad to serve the all-mighty Thanos. I won’t fail him, unlike you,” You snarled at Loki spitefully.
Never in a million years had Loki imagined this moment to happen. One where you would be fighting against each other. It was supposed to the two of you against the nine realms. Being held like that by the one person he loved more than anything was tearing his heart to shreds, but he tried not to show it.
Deep down, he knew it wasn’t truly you. He knew exactly what Thanos had done to you so you would act like this, and it only made it hurt so much more. It felt like someone was pouring salt into an open wound, and his entire body, heart and soul were wounded.
“Now give me the tesseract and we will be on our merry way,” You tried to obtain it again. This time you seemed more serious. Was it the tone of your voice or your weapon pressed against his pulse? Loki didn’t know.
“I don’t have it,” Loki lied as smoothly as he could because even thinking straight at that moment felt impossible. The world was caving in around him at supersonic speed.
You pressed the sharp edge of the blade closer to him, feeling how just a little bit more pressure would've broken his skin “You’re a great liar, my dear, but I know that’s not the truth.”
Loki didn’t want to fight you, but he didn’t see another way out. And it was good for him that you had learned most of the tricks from him. Your every move would be more easily predictable for Loki. He had to find a way to distract you.
“Why do you need it?” That was a foolish question. He knew damn well what Thanos would do if he got his dirty hands on the infinity stones.
“Why do you care?” You didn’t answer his silly question.
Suddenly, Loki grabbed your wrist tightly and yanked your arm to the side. He tried to be as gentle as he could, but Loki knew you wouldn’t go down without a fight.
At least your weapon fell out of your hand, but you knew how to defend yourself without it. So did Loki.
Loki tried to turn things around so he would have you pinned down against the wall, but you didn’t let him get that far. As he turned you around so your back was pressed firmly against his chest, you kicked your legs against the wall hard, pushing both of you back. Loki took the biggest impact as he fell on the floor, with you on top of him. Quickly, you rolled out of his grasp, turning around in one swift movement so that you were now sat on top of him, with your legs tightly against both his sides.
A powerful orb of magic grew above your fingertips and you brought it closer to Loki’s face - so close that he could feel the heat of your burning powers. The magic created an electric sensation on your skin. It felt like you pushed your fingers deep into warm sand. Toying with it was exhilarating, and seeing the astonished look on Loki’s face made it so much better. The green light of your powers cast light in his eyes, only deepening the look of disbelief that was painted all over him.
“It’s sweet that you’re trying not to hurt me,” You taunted him at that point, “but that doesn’t mean I won’t hurt you.”
“This isn’t you, Y/N,” Loki groaned. He was so sure of himself.
You tilted your head and smirked, looking at him like a cat would at a mouse. “I don’t know, Loki. It’s been a while,” You explained casually and leaned closer and closer to his face, stopping when your noses brushed against one another. By now, Loki was frozen on the spot. He was trying to come up with a plan and he felt hopeless.
“I’ve changed,” You whispered to him and felt tempted to kiss him, to taste him. Would you taste his fear? His heartbreak? You were sure it would taste sweet.
“The torture must’ve been painful,” Loki pushed his feelings aside. Yes, he felt like his heart had been ripped to shreds, but he had to do something. He had to surprise you, even if it would hurt. Words could hurt more than actions, and if Loki wanted to survive and to help you, he needed to reach the real you even if the only way to do so was cruel.
How did he know? You narrowed your eyes and surprisingly, found yourself waiting for him to continue.
"I was trained well."
"Trained?" Loki spat out harshly, "I know you're afraid. He has promised you something worse than the pain he has inflicted on you already. It won't happen. If you let Thanos continue his reign, he will not care about your loyalty!"
"Shut up!" That was too much for you. With tears brimming your eyes from anger, you put your hand over his mouth to silence him. He didn't budge and you didn't know why.
You pushed the memories aside. The painful memories of the time Thanos first found you. It was wrong to think of it as torture. No, he had shown you what you're truly capable of. It was training. Training to become a stronger person after the hell you endured on Asgard.
But now that you found yourself thinking about it, it seemed like the memories were all blurred as if you were looking into the past through a broken lens. Someone had spilt oil all over it and the pictures were warped.
"I know you have it," You needed the tesseract. "Give it to me and then this will all be over," you removed your hand from his mouth because it looked like he wanted to speak.
Loki knew that if he’d push you, your magic could burn him, but at the moment he couldn’t come up with another plan. He couldn’t just stay on the ground as people were being killed on the other side of the wall!
"Okay," Loki blurted out. Okay?
For a moment, he had you surprised which was the perfect distraction.
Loki grabbed your wrists tightly and pushed you to the side, but not quickly enough. You released your magic and it graced the side of his face, making him growl out either in pain or frustration - or both. The two of you rolled over and this time Loki was on top, holding your arms pinned above your head. You were trapped because of one mistake. You couldn't believe Loki had used the element of surprise to turn the situation upside down.
Furiously, you tried to kick your legs free, but he had you pinned down beneath him and Loki was strong. There was no point in squirming, you had to come up with another idea.
The two of you faced each other and Loki revealed his face and the damage you had done. Your magic had burned his skin and left a bloody cut on his eyebrow. It had just barely missed his eye. If he lived, it would surely leave a scar.
You flinched when a drop of his blood hit your cheek and it rolled down the side of your face.
"What are you going to do, kill me?"
Loki could never bring himself to kill you. He wouldn't be able to live with himself with your blood on his hands. No. He had other ideas. Loki remembered what it was like to be under Thanos' control. He remembered how much it hurt to even think about the torture. He had to remind you, he had to make you see that this wasn't the real you.
"This version of you, or I certainly hope so," Loki replied mysteriously. Before you could ask him to elaborate, Loki released your wrist and slammed the palm of his hand against your forehead. In a split second, you were in a different place - in your head. You could've sworn you heard him mutter "I'm sorry," before everything turned black.
It was hot, burning hot. Metal chains were attached to you and they were glowing red. Torching. You could only scream in pain as the metal sunk into your skin, your bones, your nerves. It felt like he had chained your mind and with the tiniest movement of his finger, he could make you do his dirty work.
He, Thanos, was sitting on his throne. He was the puppet master and you the puppet. He didn't look at you fondly. No. He was smiling as he watched you cry your lungs out, letting out animalistic growls as the pain got worse. It was so overwhelming that every once in a while, you would scream until you passed out. But every time, one of his children would be there to wake you up.
It was time for another round. And another. And yet another. Would it ever end?
Each time you tried to resist the chains, the strings that were sewn onto you and connected to his fingertips, it hurt more. Eventually, you learned that allowing the strings to tighten around you made it hurt less. It almost felt good, like a long embrace after a long day.
"I don't want to hurt you, my child."
Lies. You knew that all he said were nasty lies, but sometimes it was easier to believe lies than the truth.
"Make it stop!" You would beg him. How long had you been there?
You could remember Thanos touching your face gently, which was so comforting after everything you had endured. At the same time, it made you sick. You couldn't believe that the one who had caused you distress could have such a gentle touch.
"You're ready," Thanos had realized. The Other had appeared right before you and his fingertips were pressed against one another, making him look like he was deep in thought. You had no idea what they were doing, but the next thing you knew was that you no longer felt pain.
The chains, the strings, they were all invisible. It looked like you were free, but the weight of the metal was still pressed against your skin. Had you imagined it?
No,
Deep down you knew that the strings were still attached to you, but they had only made it seem like you had a choice.
"Excellent," The Other's voice surprised you. You merely blinked and you had returned to the vessel. Loki was above you and the Other was standing right there, "You found him."
The Other used his powers to push Loki off you. Shock had made your entire body numb and you couldn't scramble up to your feet. It felt like your limbs had been turned to stone and you were anchored to the floor.
Loki got up slowly with his arms raised in surrender. He was well aware of the powers the Other had and Loki wasn't going to fight him now. If he followed you for long enough, then maybe just maybe he could come up with a plan. Loki looked at you as you finally got up. As you stood next to the Other, you couldn't believe your legs carried you. Something was so wrong. You felt sick and you couldn't shake it off. It felt like something had snapped within you, but you didn't know what.
"He is waiting for you," The Other explained as he turned to walk away, most likely to wherever Thanos was waiting.
Loki had no choice but to follow, and you walked behind, making sure he didn't try to escape.
Why did Loki make you remember that? What did he think he would obtain with making you relive something so awful? It hadn't worked, right?
There he was. Thanos was standing by a hole that had been ripped into the side of the ship. Magic was keeping it sealed so the vacuum of space wouldn't suck everyone into it. But still, the emptiness of space wasn't frightening at all compared to the titan who was standing right there.
Loki swallowed thickly as he saw him again. It had been years but he remembered everything like it had happened yesterday. Seeing Thanos standing in the middle of the piles of bodies, in the room that smelled like smoke and blood, was sickening. Thanos hadn't just killed a part of Loki. He had just slaughtered these innocent Asgardians with the help of his so-called children. He had taken you.
He will make you long for something as sweet as pain
Loki closed his eyes and took a deep, shaky breath. They had stayed true to their threats.
"I know what it’s like to lose," Thanos turned around now that he knew Loki was there. At long last. Thanos had not forgotten what Loki had failed to do, and Thanos was a man of his words.
"To feel so desperately that you’re right yet to fail, nonetheless," Thanos continued dramatically and slowly made his way closer to Loki. He saw Thor on the ground, bloodied and weak. The brother of Loki. As tempting as the idea was to torture Thor right in front of the god of mischief, Thanos had different plans. If there was only one way Loki would ever give him the tesseract, it was going to be in order to save you. You were Loki's true weakness.
"It’s frightening. Turns the legs to jelly. I ask you, to what end?" Thanos looked Loki right in the eye. He could see that Loki was afraid, yet Loki never looked away from him. He was either too proud or fearless. Thanos had liked that about Loki initially. But he had failed Thanos greatly. It had cost him infinity stones.
"Dread it. Run from it. Destiny arrives all the same. And now, it’s here. Or should I say I am," Thanos finished his dramatics because it was time for action, to turn the wheels and see the bigger picture. This was the end of an era and a new beginning for a different universe. In Thanos' mind, only he could bring balance and order. He gestured for you to walk up to his side.
Too afraid of the idea of what would happen if you disobeyed, you walked right up to Thanos, feeling like a fly that was willingly flying into cobwebs. When you were close enough, you kneeled and dipped your head so he wouldn't see the worry in your eyes. It wasn't there before.
"I didn't obtain the tesseract from him, but I am sure that he has it, father," You muttered quietly. Why did you say that? There was a pounding headache growing within your skull. You didn't know what was right or wrong anymore and you couldn't fight it either.
Father
Loki clenched his jaw as he followed the situation closely. Hearing that made his blood boil. He wanted to rip Thanos apart after this. Never in a million years had he imagined this, to see you pledge your alliance to Thanos, kneeling before him and respecting him. Thanos didn't deserve that. Hell, Thanos didn't even deserve to look at you. It was wrong.
At that moment, Loki worried that his trick hadn't worked. That the memories hadn't awakened anything within you. That it was all too late now. This was the end, the one thing in life that was inevitable.
"I know, my child," Thanos let out a sigh. Then he grabbed you by your jaw like he had done before, forcing you to face him. "I know he has it," He repeated and suddenly his touch turned violent. He closed his hand around your neck tightly and you gasped for air helplessly. Your hands - tiny compared to his - grabbed his fingers and you tried to pry them apart, but he was tougher than you. Panic shot through your entire body when you realized you couldn't breathe. It turned your blood to ice and your poor heart was beating so hard you were afraid it would explode.
What was he doing?
The moment he pulled you to your feet, so high that you had to stand on the tips of your toes, he spoke, "The tesseract or her life," Thanos smiled devilishly, showing no remorse. He didn't care about you. You were a pawn in his game and if you would die at his feet, he would just walk over you and carry on.
"You choose," Thanos put the weight of the world on Loki's shoulders.
Loki wanted to rescue you from that monster, but he wasn't stupid. With all of Thanos' children surrounding him, he knew that he would be dead before he could reach you. Nonetheless, it didn't mean he wouldn't try. Seeing you clawing at Thanos' hand, fighting for something as simple as air and not getting it was heartbreaking. Loki's body was trembling with hatred and hurt. Tears blurred his vision and he struggled to keep his composure.
How had it all come to this?
The thought of Thanos with the tesseract was haunting. Soon he would have all the stones and he would destroy reality as they knew it. But Loki could live with that. He couldn't live knowing you had died when he had a chance to save you. Perhaps he was selfish for choosing you over the entire galaxy, but Loki didn't care. Nothing mattered if he would lose you again.
"Alright, stop!" Loki made up his mind. "I choose her," Finally, Thanos released his grip on you and let you fall on the cold ground. Your hands wrapped around your throat gently and you coughed painfully. It took you a while to finally breathe again, which was a huge relief for both Loki and you.
And now Loki was holding the tesseract. It was so bright that it painted the space blue. It was almost too bright to look at. The power within the stone was so strong, you could sense it like heat from the sun in spring after a long and cold winter. Loki was tempted to use the tesseract to grab you and escape, but he quickly shut those thoughts away. Thanos would follow him for the end of all days.
"You...you really are the worst, brother," Thor was following the situation to the best of his abilities. He spat out blood as he watched Loki holding the cube. It made him sad. Everything they ever knew was destroyed in the name of power, pure and raw power that the tesseract could offer. Was it worth it?
Loki glanced at Thor who was too weak to even get up. He didn't care too much about what he had to say. Then he looked at you. There you were, on the ground struggling to breathe after Thanos had crushed your windpipe. There was bruising on your skin that would only deepen with time. Time that you possibly wouldn't have after this.
He saw the tears running down your face, but you didn't sob and whimper. It seemed like you were as still as stone. You couldn't bring yourself to face Loki.
"I assure you," Loki found his voice and he addressed both you and Thor with his words, "the sun will shine on us again."
What did he mean by that?
You were ashamed to tilt your gaze to see him, to see the tesseract. The damn infinity stone had ruined it all! It was why Thanos had wrecked Loki, why he had destroyed you too. Why so many people were now dead. If you had one wish that could come true, you would wish for the tesseract to be destroyed forever.
Thanos had his back turned to you. Loki was slowly but surely making his way closer to the titan, almost like he was afraid to move but he forced his body to comply. Why? Why would he trade the tesseract for your life? It seemed like whatever spell you had been under had worn off. You were free, but it was more terrifying than being under Thanos' control under these circumstances. He didn't need you, and soon enough the vessel would be blown to bits. All of you, even Loki.
Would you be able to tell him how sorry you were?
"Your optimism is misplaced, Asgardian," Thanos wasn't fond of Loki's strange choice of words.
"Well for one thing I'm not Asgardian," Loki replied quickly. It sounded a little bit witty, which was confusing. Where did the boost of confidence come from? Was he up to something?
"And for another," He continued dramatically. This time it was Thanos' turn to be confused.
"We have a Hulk."
Everything that happened after that happened so fast that you could hardly keep up with it. Loki dropped the tesseract and he leapt toward you. Thanos barely had time to turn around when a huge, green beast appeared out of nowhere and it seemed angry. It was eager to fight the titan.
Loki had you up on your feet in no time and the two of you ran away from the immediate danger. He led you to one of the many corridors on the vessel until no one could possibly see you. They were too distracted by the Hulk to even think about Loki and you. It wasn't until he was right in front of you that you could comprehend what was going on. He was kneeling on the floor and you were sat against the wall for support. Your hands were trembling so hard, it seemed like you were freezing up and you couldn't make it stop.
Loki had tricked Thanos.
He was relieved when you didn't fight him, yet he was unsure if it meant you were no longer under Thanos' control, or if you were simply too tired to fight.
He cupped your face gently and searched for answers in your expression. Back in the day, he had been able to read you like an open book.
You put your hands around his wrists and pulled him closer. You were desperate for the comfort he could bring in the midst of the living hell you were stuck in. How did he not hate you?
"I'm s- I'm sorry," You whimpered, finally cracking like a plate that had fallen on the floor. "I'm sorry."
"Shh, it's okay," Loki couldn't possibly let you apologize for what had happened. He was possibly the one person who understood exactly what you had gone through and what it was like to follow orders from that monster. There was not an ounce of judgement to be found in his heart.
What mattered now was that you were together again. You could come up with a plan, but you had to work fast. As much as Loki wanted to hold you and comfort you, to feel that you were real, he knew there wasn't enough time for that.
"We need to get off this thing," Loki's mind was running a marathon as he tried to come up with an escape plan.
"They're gonna blow it up," You explained, feeling how bad your lips were quivering as you spoke. The moment Thanos had what he came for, they would leave and destroy everything they'd leave behind.
Shivers ran down Loki's spine as he heard that. It only confirmed that you had to act quickly. Loki wasn't sure how long the Hulk could fight Thanos. Would they be able to rescue Thor? How much time did they have?
The blood in the wound you had caused on his face was beginning to dry. It looked gnarly and all you wanted was to make it all better. Knowing that you had hurt him made you sick with guilt.
"I'm sorry, Loki. I didn't w-want to fight you," You sniffled, breaking Loki's train of thought. For the first time, he felt lost. He didn't really know what to do. Were there any escape pods left?
"I know," Loki assured you. "I know that. I was in your shoes when I was on Midgard," He explained briefly, unaware whether or not you knew of it. Had Thanos talked about him to you?
A sense of impending doom weighed you two down. If this was the end, then at least you were together, right? You and Loki against the nine realms, you would face the end together if there wasn't another way out. Whenever you had pictured your final day, you had imagined something entirely different than this. You would be old together, with hundreds of stories of your shared life. You would be surrounded by people you cared about. It would be calm, the exact opposite of this.
"I love you," You needed to tell him that. Any moment could be your last. The world would cave in and you would be gone forever.
Loki hated how much that sounded like a farewell, but at the same time, it had been so long since he had last heard those three words, let alone from you. Perhaps it was sick and twisted, but it made him smile.
"I love you too," Loki was sure of it. He had never stopped loving you and he didn't think he was even capable of that.
It seemed like you acted on instinct. You found enough strength to push yourself right against Loki. There was no hesitation in your actions as you kissed him. Loki closed his eyes when he felt your trembling lips pressed against his. Your scent, still sweet and familiar despite it all, punched its way into his lungs. He held your face gently but the kiss was passionate, almost despairing.
You wanted to scream out in agony because at last, you were reunited with Loki but not in the way you imagined. You felt like the shell of the person you were before, and now you knew for a fact that Thanos had done the exact same things to Loki. That titan had killed your souls beyond repair. But all you could do was kiss Loki and hold him and hope that he could feel how sorry you were. You didn't want to let go, afraid that if you did, it would all end. Just like that.
Loki broke the kiss, and for a moment you rested your foreheads against one another like you had done so many times before. It was comforting. You both wanted to stay close like that, but you recognised that you couldn't. Letting go of each other and getting up on your weary feet was so incredibly difficult, but it had to be done.
The world around you began to glow brighter. You quickly held onto Loki, startled as the mysterious light surrounded the two of you.
Loki held his breath as he studied the warm glimmering magic that had swallowed you. In between the bright rays of light, he saw all the colours of the rainbow. Shimmering. He saw reds and blues, yellows and greens, shining brighter than the other and it changed smoothly.
The Bifrost
He didn't know how or why, but he knew for a fact that you were in the magical portal. He couldn't see beyond it anymore. He couldn't feel the floor beneath his feet. It was like he was levitating mid-air, with you tightly in his arms.
Heimdall must've conjured the forefathers, letting their powers flow through him one last time. Where to? Loki assumed that anywhere would be better than where they had been mere seconds ago.
And it was a miracle.
Tumblr media
A/N: I think it would've made more sense for Heimdall to send Thor or Loki to earth rather than the Hulk. So that's why I ended it like that
I'd absolutely love to hear your feedback! <3
I really like reading Loki whump (with Mobius providing comfort) & I also love your stories (they are so amazing & you are so amazing too). But it always bothers me when Loki whump stories are like: "no one has ever been kind to this poor being or given him any love or a hug". Like, I love reading angst & touch-starved Loki & all that good stuff, but I think saying Loki never experienced any kind of love and affection in his life is taking it too far. It totally invalidates his relationship with Frigga (I mean, she was by no means perfect (as can be seen in the way she acts in Thor 1), but she still gave Loki lots of love). I think Loki can enjoy the love and kindness Mobius gives him even without going to the extremes of "this is the first time Loki has ever been shown kindness". What's your opinion on this?
Thank you! I’m going to get into Lokius whump specifically first, before talking about any other pairing/general Loki whump.
Frigga undoubtedly loves Loki, and to the best of my belief, Loki knows that, and he’s been shown kindness before. Though in my point of view, with Loki’s issues and how complicated (or maybe troubled, even) his mind works, I wouldn’t be surprised, if Loki failed to sense his mother’s kindness altogether after he’s learned his true heritage. Since that changes his life in a way he doesn’t think things will ever be the same; between him and Frigga and their family. Sure, Frigga said nothing changed, he was still her son. But that wasn’t how Loki saw it. He was a ‘monster parents told their children about at night’ so there was no way Frigga was his family. Or, there was no way Frigga ever saw him as her son. (I know that’s not true, but I think that’s how Loki thinks during that time in his life, since he’s hurt and confused) so all the love and kindness he’d ever received from anyone in his family suddenly became a lie, to keep him fooled. So they could eventually hurt him.
Though with Mobius, it’s different. Loki expected Mobius to hurt him since the beginning. He wouldn’t be shocked or confused, if Mobius were to physically hit him, or insult him, because, in Loki’s belief — during the time when they first met — Mobius was supposed to do just that; hurt him and tear him apart like Thanos did. Like everybody else did. But Mobius’s love and kindness seem genuine. And I think that’s what confused Loki the most, because in his mind, that’s simply impossible. Mobius’s affection must be a lie, to keep him fooled, precisely like the lie his family told him, if — and I say this in Loki’s point of view — he could still call them ‘family’
So he waits for Mobius to lose his patience and just get on with it; why he hasn’t been thrown in a cell, or why no one comes and tortures him yet. Because it’s only a matter of time, right? But that never happens. Mobius keeps proving himself again and again that he simply cares about Loki. His love, his kindness, is real. So it’s shocking for Loki, to think someone like him could be loved.
Yes, Frigga does love him. His family loves him, but for Loki, I think he kind of cut all of that out of his life and assumed it was all a lie after learning he was a Frost Giant. And I know Ragnarok Loki has what’s been broken between him and Thor (which I believe include Frigga and Odin as well) fixed. So he’s come to accept the love and kindness from his family again. Even if Frigga and Odin are both gone, I think he knows now, their love was real, the kindness they gave was real.
But the thing is, in most Lokius fics, it’s not Ragnarok Loki but the Loki who hasn’t been through any of the things he’s been through after the event of the Dark World, that helps him find peace with his family again. So if or when you see in a fic where it goes along the line “this is the first time Loki has been shown kindness” it was probably written in Loki’s POV, or that it’s been so long since someone was kind to him (since it’s been years during the time he was held captive in Thanos’s Sanctuary and was tortured) he can no longer remember kindness, especially with Thanos having messed with his mind and most-likely his memories, too. At least, these are just my opinions.
I mean, I can only speak for myself as someone who writes Lokius fics. Because, believe it or not, I don’t remember if I ever used those lines in any of my fic, whether it’s about Lokius or not, since there’s just so much I’ve written about Loki — and, most of the times, I tried to write in words that captured my at-that-time feelings best, and it depended on whose POV I was writing in, if it’s Loki’s — but if I ever did, these are the reasons why. Or if in the future you find a sentence in my fic that’s similar to those lines, I promise you my intention is never to invalidate Frigga’s love and kindness which she gave to her son.
Wow. I got carried away and that was a whole essay about it. Don’t worry, though, I didn’t forget about the general Loki whump/other pairing — which I said I’d get into in the beginning — which won’t be as long. Here it goes; as for some other general Loki whump, I believe we should take into consideration a.) if it was written in Loki’s POV and if the context was to make it seem that it’s been so long since Loki was shown a glimpse of kindness. (Or if it was Avengers Loki whose mind and memories weren’t exactly intact.)
Or b.) if it’s Thor 1 Loki, Avengers Loki, TVA Loki, The Dark World Loki, Ragnarok Loki or Infinity War Loki, because while it’s still Loki, his canon character development in each era can be different when compared to the others. The cases, whether it’s Lokius or other pairing, can be quite similar when it come down to how Loki feels about the kindness given from Frigga, and the kindness given from other person. Again, these are just my opinions, and I hope I make sense and that you get what I mean.
I saw that imagines are open, may I ask a Lokixreader? Remember when Odin appears in a vision/mind of Thor in Thor Ragnarok, his ghost? Well that thing but with Loki after the 5 years of his death and days before the Avengers goes to search the infinity stones. YN is depressed, and in her dream/vison she thinks her husband is alive, that is real his presence but Loki says she should live her life and that he always loved her(my mind full of OST Thor 2-Deliverance mod romatinc).This is long,sorry
Hello Anon! Sorry this took so long, I have not been able to get a moment of peace until now!
Petals (Loki x reader)
Takes place in endgame and A LOT of angst... (TW: mentions of death)
The hinges groaned in protest as you pushed open the door with the palm of your hand, a heavy sigh leaving your lips. The room was just as it had been the last time you had seen it, it seemed Tony really was the sentimental type. Things were freshly dusted and the bed newly made, but walking into felt as if you had been transported back- back to a time when things weren’t so dark, when you weren’t so alone.
You kicked off your shoes and padded softly over to the dresser, as if any movement might cause the landscape in front of you to fade away to mere memory, as if the wrong step could send you spiraling back to the present.
A heavy feeling settled in your stomach as you took in the room around you, the photos on the dresser, the once undying flowers in the vase brittle and faded, the bed made for two… You picked up the flower vase and held it close, as if willing it to once again provide that sweet smell you loved so dearly. That scent had faded as had the once brilliant colors, faded as the magic that had kept them alive had faded from this world 5 years ago.
You squeezed your eyes shut to blink back the tears. 5 years, 5 years you had been alone on this earth. 5 years since Loki had been slaughtered, since the people of Asgard had been slaughtered, since half the universe had been slaughtered, since Thor fell into a trance you could not wake him from, since you had lost everything.
How unfair this world was. The next morning you would be embarking on a journey to attempt to reverse the damage wrought by the titan Thanos. You could see the hope filling the hearts of the others, the hope of a better tomorrow. No such hope found a home in your heart. Even if you succeeded, there would be no bringing back Loki. He had not vanished in the blip, he would not reappear. A bitter laugh sounded from your lips as you slammed the vase back on the dresser, not caring if you shattered the glass and crushed the flowers into oblivion.
Instead, you were met with petals soft and fragrant and bright and the vase incredulously unbroken. Freezing in place, you heard a chuckle you would always recognize.
“Well, darling, any harder and you would have broken that lovely vase.”
Frantically you spun yourself around, a smile overtaking your face as you took in the view. Loki, alive and grinning his typical grin sat perched on the end of your bed. The bed you had both once shared. The bed you had laid alone in until you could stand it no longer. Until you had fled as far as you could.
“Loki? How? You’r-“ Rushing forward, he cut you off with a gentle hand to your cheek as you fell to your knees before him. You placed your hand over his own and saw tears blur your vision.
“Shhh, love,” He softly brushed the tears from your cheek with his thumb, the warmth of his hand seemingly reawakening your body, sending shockwaves to your very toes. “I can’t stay long.”
“Stay? What do you mean— you’re here! You’re- You’re alive! I don’t-“ You shook your head frantically. “No, no… I can’t lose you again, no, please…” You moved your hands and reached up to cup his face, oh his beautiful face. His eyes were so clear and alive and brimming with love.
“It’s not something either of us can control,” His eyes searched your own until your gaze remained focused on him, until he could pull you from your own thoughts and mind. “None of it was something either of us could control,” he moved your hands down to his shoulders. “You can’t keep in your head… living in the past. That was always something I did, you know. Look at this pot calling the kettle black, hmm?” He laughed slightly and you nodded, your own small laugh leaving your lips. “There is it, I’ve missed that laugh. Why don’t you laugh anymore? Surely not because of me?”
“You’re gone!” Your voice had risen an octave or two in panic. He was gone, he was here but he was gone and he said himself he was leaving again soon. Your eyes scanned his face, trying desperately to etch it into a memory that would never fade, trying to hold onto every feelings of his body, the sound of his voice, his heartbeat… “You’re gone and I’m alone.” Your voice broke and you swallowed back tears.
“Nonsense,” he shook his head and clicked his tongue. “Alone, honestly! I always thought you were the smarter one, my love.” His hand once again found its place on your cheek, the other one squeezing your arm tightly. “You have your friends-your family, for Odin-sake you have my brother for all he’s worth, and,” he paused and released your arm, moving instead to place his hand gently on your chest above your heart. “You have me. Always. I shall not leave you, I thought that was made clear in our vows.”
You drew in a heavy breath and met his gaze once more. “It’s not the same-“
Once more he cut you off, and had it been 5 years ago you would have chided him endlessly for not letting you finish your thoughts, but now you would give everything for just 5 more minutes with him, interruptions or not.
“I need you to live for me,” His voice was barely above a whisper, and you clutched onto his shirt as if your life depended on it. “I cannot stay, but I cannot leave without your word that you will live for me.”
“If I refuse to give my word, will you remain by my side?” You titled forward until your forehead rested against his own, attempting to breath him in deeply.
“What a mischievous thought,” he huffed a laugh and closed his eyes as yours fluttered shut, “but you know I cannot.”
Opening your eyes once more and pulling back slightly, you let out a heavy sigh. “I had to try.”
“I would expect nothing less from the wife of the god of mischief.”
“I will try to live, for you and only you,” you grabbed his face and pulled him in for a searing kiss, a goodbye you had been unable to have and poured every emotion into it, all your love and grief and he matched you with his own.
Loki pulled back just enough to whisper gently against your lips, his final piece before he had to leave, “I love you. Always.”
Then he was gone.
A glance behind you showed the flowers that had returned to life remained alive once more, and maybe, you could too.
