Lo pubblico qui, caso mai dovesse servire a qualcuno.

E' sempre la storia del backup, partita anni fa in maniera completamente diversa, perché mi ero messo in testa di fare la app Android di Tumblr (per chi mi segue dal 2019, si ricorderà di Rumble), ma dopo tanto studio sulle API capii che non era proprio fisicamente possibile riuscire nell'impresa, e recuperai tutto il codice scritto per farmi dei programmi di gestione del mio blog, che tuttora uso, tra cui la possibilità di fare in autonomia (e ne ho fatti tanti anche a voi) il backup del blog, soprattutto negli anni dove con Tumblr non ne voleva sapere di funzionare.

Il problema di una app che fa il backup, così come fare il backup tramite Tumblr, è che ogni volta devi ricordarti di usarla, ed è una rottura di cazzi, diciamocelo, io per primo me lo dimentico, col risultato che passano i mesi e l'ultimo backup magari risale ad un anno fa.

Fortuna che la mamma ha speso tanti soldi per farmi studiare, e l'impulso a risolvere il problema l'ho avuto quando ho acquistato l'anno scorso come regalo per Natale un ben Synology DS223j, e mi son detto "ma questo è un aggeggio che mi fa i backup di tutto, se modifico tutto quello che ho fatto per tirarne fuori un giocattolino piccolo piccolo che gira ogni sera su questo bagaglio e mi fa il backup direttamente sui miei dischi, beh, siamo ad asino", e quindi

Non è della serie "scarica ed esegui", eh, però ho provato a documentarne l'uso, per chi si vuole cimentare, e si accettano ovviamente critiche e consigli (e anche modifiche!)

◆ Elemental Burst: Aromatic Explication

◆ Stows existing Lumidouce Cases and creates a Level 3 Lumidouce Case. The Level 3 Lumidouce Case will continuously cause Scented Dew to descend, attacking opponents within range and dealing Dendro DMG. When the duration ends, the Lumidouce Case reverts to Level 1, or it inherits the level and number of collected Scents from the previously stored Lumidouce Case.

III. New Equipment

New Weapon (Examples based on Refinement Rank 1)

Lumidouce Elegy (5-Star Polearm)

ATK increased by 15%. When the equipping character triggers Burning on an opponent or deals Dendro DMG to Burning opponents, the DMG dealt is increased by 18%. This effect lasts for 8s, max 2 stacks. When 2 stacks are reached or when the duration is refreshed at 2 stacks, restore 12 Energy. Energy can be restored this way once every 12s. The 2 aforementioned effects can be triggered even when the character is off-field.

I am so tired of this brand pissing contest.

All of the metal bricks do pretty much the exact same thing. There isn't a better one. Just a slightly different user experience.

It basically comes down to 3 things. UX preference, ecosystem, friends/family.

Some people like the UX of iOS, some prefer Android. Either will do almost all of the same things. Android allows for more customization and tinkering. iOS tends to keep things stock but has more reliable apps—though Android development has improved.

Some people have PCs. Android and Google services tend to work better with a PC.

Some people have MacBooks and iPads. You would be silly not to get an iPhone at that point, because the integration of Apple products is seamless and kind of amazing.

And finally, what is everyone else in your group using? If they are mostly on iPhones, you will find communicating a little easier if you also have an iPhone.

There is one thing Apple does better than other manufacturers that I should include. Longevity. They support their devices for pretty much their entire lifespan. They allow software updates for as long as your phone will tolerate them. And since their hardware design is unified, you can always count on getting a well made product no matter the price point. No need to research each model to see if it is prone to break or has an exploding battery. This point makes me a little frustrated because so many iPhone users will upgrade every year for some reason. Unless there is a new feature you absolutely need, this is wasteful.

Android flagship phones tend to have decent longevity and get continued software updates. But there has always been an issue with the more budget models being forgotten about after a year and receiving no more software. You need to do a lot more research to see if the manufacturer of a particular line of phones has a history of quality manufacturing and good support or if they abandon their phones once the warranty period is up. I tend to steer people toward Pixel phones if they don't feel like doing the research. Google has been decent about long term support so far.

You have to evaluate your circumstances and choose the platform that will serve you best. In all honesty, you can make either work regardless. And you will probably have a few frustrations no matter which you choose.

Brand loyalty is stupid.

How to install NewPipe on Android

NewPipe is a YouTube replacement client for Android devices. It's open-source (meaning, you can see all of their code as you please), privacy-oriented, lightweight, and supports features that are normally locked behind a YouTube Premium paywall.

Step 0. Compatibility check

Make sure you're running an Android device! This won't work on an Apple device of any kind! Also, for those more tech-savvy among you, if you have the F-Droid store installed, you can download NewPipe straight from there!

Step 1. Downloading

Go to NewPipe's Github repo (repository, the codebase or where all of the code is stored). Scroll to the bottom of the page until you see "Releases". Click on the one that says "Latest" next to it in a little green bubble:

Your version number (v#...) will be different if you're reading this in the future! That's okay. Scroll past the changelog (unless you want to read it!) until you find "Assets":

Click on the first one, the one with the little cube ending in .apk. APK files are Android Package (Kit) and are the main format for downloading apps. Once you click on the link, it should begin downloading or your browser will ask you to confirm that you want to download this file. You should always verify the filename matches what you expect it to be (namely, the file format) before attempting to install! It might take a few moments for the file to download depending on your internet connection.

Step 2. Installation

Once you have the file downloaded, you can click the download popup in your notification bar or find the file in your device's file system. One of 2 things will happen:

You will get a popup asking if you want to install an APK by the name of NewPipe - confirm that you do (and make sure the app is really NewPipe!) and it will install automatically. You can then click "Open" to open the app and begin using it.

You will get a popup warning you that you have the ability to install apps from unknown sources disabled and that you can't install this. This is normal and does not mean that you downloaded the wrong thing.

If you got the first popup, continue past this step. For those of you who got the second, let's go over what this means.

By default, most Androids have this setting disabled. This is for security purposes, so you can't accidentally install a malicious app from the whole internet. If you enable this setting (allow installations from unknown/unsigned sources), you are theoretically putting yourself at risk. Realistically, you're probably fine. But, after installing NewPipe, you can always re-disable the setting if it makes you more comfortable. That will prevent you from installing updates in the future, but it can always be re-enabled.

Ready to turn that setting on? It will vary by your individual device! Some devices will take you directly to the page with the setting upon failed installation, and some you will just have to find it yourself using the searchbar in settings.

Once you've allowed installations from unknown sources (wording may vary slightly), try to repeat the steps above of clicking the download popup or finding the APK in your files and trying to install it. It should work correctly this time!

Step 3. Updating NewPipe

Like most apps, NewPipe is in development currently and frequently has new versions released to improve it and fix bugs. Unlike most apps, NewPipe needs to be manually updated, since we haven't downloaded through the Google Play store.

To update NewPipe, all you have to do is follow the above steps for installing the app, except that when you get the popup asking to install it, it will instead say "Update". That's it! NewPipe and Android handle the rest.

NewPipe also has popup notifications for when the app has a new update, so you don't have to worry about checking the GitHub for a new release. Just click on the "A new version is available" popup and it should take you directly to the webpage.

That's it! Enjoy browsing videos in peace without ads and with the ability to download and so much more. Pro tip: you can copy paste YouTube links into the NewPipe search bar to go directly to that video/playlist/channel.

Going Foward With The EAH Server Based Mobile Game - My thoughts as of 24/2/25

This post will highlight my current thoughts and what I plan to do regarding this game, as well as that it most likely will not be playable ever unless some mericle happens. This is a very long update and is the first one in a while, so I have a very short recap under the cut.

I use the #GMGA updates and #Ever After High game tags for talking about my project of making now defunct stereotypically feminine mobile games easily accessible. I use the ever after high game tag for anything regarding this game. Recap is I found a game just titled Ever After High and went on a long journey trying to get it in a working state. Eventually, I gave up. I have since Un given up.

Actual Update:

I have recently found the versions 2.3.1 2.3.2 and 2.2. I use version and build interchangeably. I know their different. What you basically need to know is that these are just different updates to the game. Previously, I only had versions 2.4 and 1.10. What these new versions have confirmed is that:

There was a major update to the game with every new Netflix special that was released. (I already suspected it but it's nice to confirm it.

This game was not only being maintained (i.e. servers still kept up and on the appstore) but actively getting updated with new content from 2015 - 2022. (This is similar to the timelines of the other 3 EAH games, most of which did not have the same development teams)

This game, IF I find a functional version, will not be compatible with modern android (about android 13 to 15, which is what I consider modern. If you have an android device, i can almost guarantee this means you.) The version I can confirm will it will work if it ever does is Android 7.

Let's break down all of these discoveries.

1. Confirmation of all specials having a themed version:

Originally, I thought 2.4 was the epic winter build because Apple was the school winter shawl. However, both 2.3.1 and 2.3.2 feature her in the EW outfit, this with the DG outfits featured on the Amazon Appstore page and footage I found of the WTW build confirms this. I will try to find as many builds as I can.

2. Why were most EAH games made in 2015 and updated until 2022?

So, admittedly, it seems odd that the EAH mobile games were made in 2015 and continued to be updated years after the franchise was cancelled. But here's my theory. So, these games are pretty simple and could be made in about 6 months to a year. EAH and MH were doing pretty well, so naturally, they expanded into multimedia, more specifically games, around this time. They contracted Animoca to make Charmed Style and Tea Party Dash, worked internationally on Baby Dragons, and contracted [X]cubegames to make this game, Ever After High. [X]cubegames then worked with RedHat Inc for server maintenance. I don't what exactly happened in Mattel but either they just kinda forgot the games existed, or they were actually making enough money to beat maintenance costs. Then I think Mattel looked back into their MH and EAH games around 2022. Why did they decide to look into the MH and EAH properties in 2022? Well, that's when the MH reboot came out! So, in 2022, they were like, OK, let's go talk to Animoca and our home development team and whoever the hell else we contracted to make MH games. So, they went to talk to them and were like, hey, its not very profitable for these games to still be active, and we're rebooting the brand. And the companies said cool, but what about EAH. Mattel had forgotten EAH games existed and could really like to not make disney upset since they had just gotten the disney doll license back and got all EAH games shut down.

3. The EAH app will not be functional on modern android:

The EAH app was built for Android 5 to 7 and uses storage permissions for those versions. In the more than 7 android versions that have been released since then, the storage permissions have changed completely, and the game won't even recognize it. This is one of the many many reasons why we should just rebuild the game instead of trying to resurrect its long dead corspe, but I don't feel especially qualified for that. Maybe in the future, that'll change, but for now, I'm just going to work on archiving what the game was.

The developers over at Coffee Stain North have been cooking up some wild ideas for Goat Simulator 3, but not all of them can be chosen. Or can they? To close out the 10th anniversary celebrations in as chaotic a manner as possible, a free in-game update is now live containing a multitude of unreleased ideas for players to dig their horns into! The “Gifts from the Rifts” update contains 27 new gears (and an additional hidden gear), as well as two new events bringing the April 1 festivities to San Angora. And to top it all off, the update comes with an all new alternate goat: Plushie Pilgor. Based on our partnership with YouTooz, this digital soft toy goat has an all new ability, turning anything in its path into a plaything. Additionally, the companies released a video teasing the second expansion for Goat Simulator 3, following the release of the first expansion “Multiverse of Nonsense” on June 19, 2024.
