William S. Burroughs: A Man Within review by Kaja Popko

William S. Burroughs: A Man Within explores the life of a Beat writer who was arguably the grittiest and most bedeviling of the group. Despite his association with punk and grunge, Burroughs's work was lyrically plaintive and his voice provided a window to his ineffable sadness. The documentary features interviews with Burroughs and his admirers, but they frustratingly only alight on his literary significance when speaking in terms of personal influence. Leyser attempts to equate Burroughs's gun fetishism with Hunter S. Thompson's recklessness, but Burroughs's most accomplished fiction was the boiling run-off of his inner-demon-induced sweat. Burroughs epitomized the 20th-century ideal of the over-educated libertine and forever changed the conversation about sexual orientation, but his last boyfriend recounts an evening where he confessed his love, only to be laughingly dismissed. A Man Within persuasively argues that Burroughs's most dangerous addiction might have been the refusal of love.

hwan's my most stoic character atm, so i guess her physical weakness is sore joints from gaming, sksksk. tbh, most ppl know about it and she tries taking care of them.

emotional weakness? well, she's somewhat terrified of feeling like she can't be her true self. and if it's impossible, she'll shut most of her potential out. so, yeh. >:3

i love reading and writing fantasy and scifi (any fiction really) my adhd makes me keep my hands busy so I'm very good at knotted friendship bracelets and origami paper cranes. i love cartoon shows, especially with found family, and the gayer the better

Jameson Dye would think the world of you! Not only does he find the craft of writing to be such a precious and beautiful thing, he is fascinated by people who can create physical art with their hands and could watch them do their work all day. He adores his found family and is incredibly pansexual and full of love.

Similarly, Bunny always needs something to calm her down when the drugs carry her a little too far from reality, so she would be so happy just to sit and watch your hands make paper cranes (which would seem like actual magic to her). Her found family is the most important thing in the world to her, and she is the most queer a human being could possibly get.

Final Thoughts On 2023

I know I have a very dysfunctional sense of time, but this year seems extra short and long to me. But such is the way it goes. Vague recap time!

Shut Down published! I went to my first therapy session. I toured apartments with my roommate. I traveled for the first time with just a friend. I got to meet the voice actors for The Animaniacs Pinky and The Brain. I celebrated my first Aro week. I wrote my first pilot episode. I got on TikTok for class and ended up not hating it. I volunteered to help at an student Oscar event and for student plays. I lost my best friend. I finally joined my school's writing club. My parents accidentally read my poetry collection and loved it. I moved into my very own apartment. I went on a family vacation to New York and got to see my almost little sister for the first time in 4 years. I hosted my very first book signing! I published Reprogrammed. I learned how to live by myself. I took a pottery class. I started a movie script. I let go of my best friend for good. I became the secretary for the writing club. I found a little bit more of myself in my fashion sense. I hosted a Halloween party. I met the producer of Me Before You. I made more friends and learned how best to love some of my others.

And in what has been one of the greatest decisions I've ever made, I stayed incredibly active on this lovely site and I got to meet, know, and love all of you. You guys are my diary and my joke book and a safe place for everything I am and love. I can be 100% myself on here without a single worry and you guys will never understand what that means to me.

My love list will just have to continue to grow, but that's okay. I love each and every one of you and I cannot wait to spend another year alongside you. Happy New Year! 🥂

WRITEBLR RE-INTRO

Hello beautiful people of Tumblr! It’s me Yejide again! You might’ve been wondering where my account went, and it’s because I accidentally deleted it all! I was trying to delete a blog I accidentally created and then I didn’t realize I was deleting my entire account, so after my mental breakdown I’m here now. I’m doing a re-introduction to those who know me and don’t. I’m going to try to rebuild this account as much as I can and store four years of memories here!

About Me:

My name is Yejide, but I go by Yeji or 'Your Mutual'. I'm a minor and Nigerian-Canadian. My pronouns are she/her.

My interests are writing (obvs), dancing/performing, reading, playing music, watching cartoons, watching YouTube, creating long Twitter threads and listening to k-pop. I am a student at some random-ass high school in Canada.

About My Writing:

I've been on writeblr for about three years, but since I accidentally deleted my account, there's no proof of this, so take this as you will. I love being in a community with other writers, so PLEASE tag me in tag games and talk about your WIPS with me!

My favourite genres to write are speculative fiction and contemporary fiction. I'll dabble in mystery or historical fiction once in a while.

I currently work (volunteer) at two online publications, so I'm excited to get literary experience and work with other writers.

My top two current WIPS are The Order of the Key (science-fantasy) and You and Me [Plus Everyone in Between Us] (contemporary). (reintroductions coming soon!)

I have a young adult, sci-fi/cyberpunk series called Rogue that's currently published online! It's about a girl and her friends who try to prove themselves to the gaming world in a virtual reality competition. However, must now defeat a deadly hacker who plans to merge reality and virtual reality.

Soldiers do that because there are no women around.” “That might be true, but I didn’t fuck men for a lack of female partners. I did it because we grew close on the battlefield and we found comfort in each other’s arms. I loved and lost more than one man." Thiery's heart is beating so hard he worries it will be audible in the consequent pause. "Do you think lesser of me now?" Geffrey asks, looking Thiery deep in the eyes.

1 - Are you named after anyone? - Not a person, exactly. I named myself for the ashes of the life I left behind. Poetic, I guess

2 - When was the last time you cried? - I suppose I shed a tear at the memorial for Alya, but I don't cry most of the time.

3 - Do you have kids? - No, probably on account of the fact that I am 17 years old and have absolutely no interest and a faint loathing for the kind of physical activity required for children [a/n - they're ace]

4 - Do you use sarcasm? - All the time, especially around Cassius. It drives him mad.

5 - What's the first thing that you notice about someone? - The things that they might know.

6 - What's your eye colour? - I have solid black eyes, and no matter what form I take, they are the one thing that never change.

7 - Scary movies or happy endings? - Scary movies all the way.

8 - Any special talents? - Does shapeshifting count? I was born with it, but I think it's pretty special

9 - Where were you born? - Well, don't tell any of the council, but I was born in Emberhollow, the remote mining town miles from Blackburn

10 - What are your hobbies? - I don['t really do much outside of my job, but I do do a lot of reading, if that counts for anything?

11 - Have you any pets? - No.

12 - What sports do you play/have played? - Back in Emberhollow, I could throw a javelin further than anyone else

13 - How tall are you? - Well, I can shapeshift into any height, but my natural form is 6" 3'

14 - Favourite subject in school? - I didn't go to traditional school, but I had a tutor who taught me the art of storytelling, which I think counts

hmm, they aren't my current brainrot, however, i will try. if they had to choose an honest living, they would probably be a farmer. growing crops of different plants, providing fresh fruits and vegetables for a local community needing them. they'd spend their days sowing seeds and mowing excess plants. and they'd be satisified by how they bring a sense of relief for other people. :3

happy halloween!! since this is my first one, i'm going with treat!

currently, i don't have an actual playlist for crow (the main character of the shadow wip), but there are a few songs remind me of her

"it's over, isn't it?" from steven universe: i've never watched the show but this song is angsty!! i was telling @apocalypsewriters about how i've always loved this song, and they're the one who connected it to crow, which caused something to CLICK in my brain. and a subplot was born!

"you're on your own, kid" by taylor swift: midnights is living rent free in my head right now, and i just love imagining an edit of crow to the bridge of this song. "my friends from home don't know what to say / i looked around in a blood-soaked gown / and i saw something they can't take away" AHH??? CROW. the entire ending of the song just fits her so well,,,

Final Thoughts On 2022 & Positivity Tag

2022 was a lot of things. Good, bad, world-changing, and ever consistent. I finished the Animatronic Saga (first series). I realized I was aro. I got good at being a college student and better at adulting. I made new friends, strengthened old connections, and let people who were bad for me out of my life. I got better at managing my anxiety, my obsessiveness, and my body image issues. I started the secondary series. I worked through losing my dog the previous year and fell in love with my family's new puppy. I learned new skills. I made mistakes and worked through them. I wrote my first poetry collection and found an artist to collaborate with. I read 77 books and more fanfiction than I could possibly hope to put a number to. I got a Webtoon account to read Heartstopper and Lore Olympus. I spent time with my friends and time with myself and I can truthfully say that, most days, I was really and truly happy.

And I got on here.

I found blogs that are safe places for me. And then I found all of you, who make me feel even safer. I've always been so terrified of social media-- and I still am, to be honest, but I love each and every one of you so very dearly. Those i know by name-- whether real or pen-- and those I hope to soon. You are truly some of the most supportive and uplifting individuals I have had the honor of befriending and I can't wait to spend 2023 with you guys by my side.

Hey, Eve! Thank you for helping me get some writing done 😊

A recent development... Hm, that's tough... I'm not sure if this is what you meant, because I haven't actually written it yet, but I'm excited to develop Blair, the antagonist from my RWBY fic, How an Angel Gets Its Wings. He's going to have a slight change of heart by the end of the story and find some common ground with Aaliyah and that's been one of my faves to think about :)
