Dramatis Personae, Sion naming conventions, and more

Okay I have blotted out stuff on my character chart! It was just some really basic memory jogging notes. This includes characters that have any kind of specified name and role, even if it's really small.

(UNFORTUNATELY) This is actually not a complete list - there were a couple characters I hadn't added before I decided the screenshot was big enough, such as "Fully Robotic Shiva", and I didn't include anyone sent to the Furry Dimension AU either (such as "Anthro Robot Shiva"). I did otherwise sort by general timeframe and name, though I also hid whole columns such as more specific timeframe, and "current status" - as some characters die at certain points or are already dead.

We're going to need a little general "legend" with some definitions here but first I'm going to place a Read More because this is going to be a long one!

~"Legend"~

"Dynamurgy/Dynamurgist" = The ability to generate and wield an 'energy'-type force

"Jackals" = Crime Syndicate

"Kin" = Human/Shifter hybrids

"TNK" = The Nowhere Kings, sion band

"Turnlock" = Government Crime Solving Entity - has multiple divisions

"Vampires" = I thought they were worth mentioning because due to Reasons they fall into the category of "very gross", lol - like their mechanism of "being vampires" is actually fungal based. Thanks to Trevvy they are also generally antagonistic.

"Wirehound" = A hyper-specific sion social group, mainly contained to those living in the power station. While this usually refers to the original group, SO's from "outside" can be considered honorary wirehounds as well.

"Parenthesis name" = AKA "Normal Human Alias". Some modern sions have these, these are mainly used when they're trying to get something done on the Reality plane and don't want to cause unnecessary questions by using their actual name. However, some sions just don't really leave Ahveph and some just dgaf.

"---" = Has a surname, but not fully defined yet

Additionally, with the ancient sions I generally use element names to indicate they are from the kingdom associated with a specified sovereign, not necessarily that they can use that element as their magic casting differs from moderns. For example "water knight" = a knight from Sen's kingdom

~Sion Naming Conventions~

ANCIENTS -

These would all technically be in conlang (sionic) - I only have some of them worked out so I provided that when available but otherwise I just wrote these out in English

Naming styles kind of morph over the years but there is a mix of "older" and "newer" names. This would have been caused by Ahveph assigning its idea of basic names to the original batches and then the sions changing it over time as they started raising and naming their own children.

(Subject)(verb) - (written as verb-subject in sionic) is the oldest style, you can see this with the sovereigns even without their full city names. Akiyohm = Fatewinder, Sennamet = Pathfinder, etc. "Akimet" (Pathwinder) and Sennayohm (Fatefinder) are completely valid names

(Adjective)(Noun) - (written as noun-adjective in sionic) is the most common style. They tend to favor landscape features and stuff that evokes elements. Painted Rivers and Still Aeon are good examples. A variation of this style is "sentence name", such as Clear Lake at Dawn.

"Poetic" - Also somewhat of a variation of the above. These names are pulled out of various works and are meant to be even more evocative. Fallow Valley is actually an example of this as this is part of a line from an old forge song (and actually the meaning is closer to "Verdant Valley" but I just prefer the way "Fallow" sounds in english)

Ancients also do have surnames and the most common ones tend to relate to where they are from. If they have or have earned any special positions they will have a modifier added in (royals, administration, engineering, etc)

The only real surname example I have written here is Fairskies "of the Dune Sea". That doesn't outright tell you that he's from The Beacon (or that he's literally Just Aki lol), but it does say that either he or his family are from that general area.

MODERNS -

With very rare exception these are named Entirely by Ahveph, because it's also entirely in charge of building them.

"Stuff" - Exactly what it looks like. These are the most common and are names based on things or concepts. Pretty often they do have some relation to the individual, like a literal reference to an element, or a trait they have, but sometimes they don't, so it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. For example Torchwood = though he goes by Torch, torchwoods are a type of (highly flammable) tree, because he's a nature elemental. On the other hand Coriander isn't in reference to anything.

Compound Name - A variation of the Stuff name, but x2. An example is Windrazor. Has a higher chance of meaning nothing.

Titular Name - A further variation on Stuff and Compound names, but they get a "The" added in. The Daydreamer is a titular name. This has the highest chance of being nonsensical and is also the rarest name type.

Most sions go by some form of nickname based on the full name. Some of these end up sounding pretty close to human names and some just aren't.

Modern sions don't have surnames, but there also aren't that many of them so their names don't overlap. IF they have to use a surname for some reason (usually something Reality related) they will often just use their Source's.

~Further Ancient Classes and Relatives~

So. The status of "Relative" can be really complicated for Ancients. There is more than one way to add someone into a family tree because there is more than one thing to keep track of (lol) - construction lineage, magic lineage, and namesake lineage. For this reason and due to their age, the Sovereigns have a large amount of relatives, and its especially concentrated at their cities. Being a "royal" actually doesn't mean much there unless they do something to distinguish themselves. All of your typical "Court Intrigue" stuff is actually going to lie in the Administrative and Engineering "departments".

Administration - Generally anything having to do with government and government-run functions. The Sovereigns are actually pretty preoccupied Being Cities so while they had larger roles in the past, their avatar bodies are mostly acting as figureheads for their kingdom. Most of the main decisions are being made by various administrative teams and the main council, based on some input by the Sovereign. The Sovereigns gave much more influence on their own cities and immediate vicinity vs locations farther out in the kingdom.

Engineering - Generally anything falling under the "Public Works" umbrella. Depending on the city this can also include additional tasks such as monitoring mining operations (The Beacon has this as a subdepartment) This is held in just as high regard as administration. While the Sovereigns CAN handle all of these types of tasks on their own they are of the opinion that their people should contribute to and take care of the space they live in. This also includes a very complex system of communication and monitoring the Sovereign's city-form.

As you can imagine Administration and Engineering both think they are better than the other

Namesakes - They are an incredibly diminished version of a Sovereign that are generally installed at towns and cities of a certain size and share the same name. Unlike Sovereigns, they are not completely anchored to that location. Training in both engineering and administration is required. Sovereigns can "promote" people into Namesakes, which is also causes them to be added into family trees. All Namesakes are therefore also royals. In the case of Twelve Winds, they did in fact start out as one of Aki's relatives that was looking to prove themselves and worked their way up into a Namesake.

Namesakes can technically "promote" others into Namesakes but it's an exponential decline in ability so this is not typically done.

~Other Things of Note~

*Aki operating as his "Fairskies" trader alias is actually a totally separate thing from his original build as a trader

*Subore goes by his middle name instead of his first name (Morgan)

*Valley is a normal citizen that was promoted into a royal via magic lineage. I'll probably get into this in some later post but this situation was actually a huge mess

*A lot of events are driven by one of my favorite tropes, Idiot Plot. Even if I state, oh yeah so-and-so is smart, the reality is that no actually most of these characters are incredibly dumb in one way or another

-Ice Coffee Cookie was born and raised in the Dark Cacao Kingdom, training hard to make herself as strong as possible. Which puts her on a par with Caramel Arrow and Crunchy Chip. Also, knowing about the harsh conditions around the kingdom, she decided to harden herself to the maximum, so it is more convenient for her to walk in open clothes without fear of the cold. Although there are disadvantages to this. She can't stand the heat and can easily get sunstroke. She is a calm and loyal warrior, ready for any battles and orders from Dark Cacao.

[Canon] Doing a lot of art dumping here. It's been 6 months so there's a lot to put here.

Here we have some bonding time Theo(Cacao) and Toffee

After the Dark Flour War when Cacao returns with a shattered Soul Jam, Affogato is entrusted with fixing it. However, none of them took into account the fact that there was one shard in Toffee's necklace that would also get sucked in, sealing her away in the King's most precious relic.

Oh and now she's been redesigned for the royal family portrait!! I decided I wanted her to be a part of my culture :3

Just a heads-up that I'll be taking the next update off! I'm moving to a new place and unfortunately that's going to take a LOT of time and energy to get done. The comic will be back in a few weeks though! HOPEFULLY this will be the last interruption that chapter 3 gets- we're so close to the end of it!

Hey anon- just wanted to let you know that I got the biggest kick out of this ask when you sent it- knowing full well that your question would be answered on the following page. Here we are! He's really just irritated at having to pick them all back up!

Honestly, it didn't make much sense to me in PLA that you COULDN'T go and retrieve pokeballs that missed their mark- sooooo... I changed that. Certain gameplay mechanics just don't make a whole lot of narrative sense outside of a videogame I think. So there will be a few tweaks here and there in the story, just to make things make more sense- and this is one of them! Good job calling it ahead of time!

Another Aki sketch I've been meaning to do ~ Still trying to figure out his outfit and will probably have to play around with some chibis to get something satisfactory, but I did determine his hair is super fun to draw 8D

So anyway, obviously he has two main swords. Most of the time though, in what he would consider a 'boring fight', he would be using just one, then when things heat up a bit he would bring out the second one. He is super strong so dualwielding doesn't bother him, but he does want a battle that is worthy of the effort.

...However that goes all out the window when he is at his city, Fatewinder's Beacon. Since The Beacon is actually his main body, he will build more swords for himself to fling at opponents. When they phase into this plane for use it seems as though they are appearing out of thin air. Technically speaking, these are not as good as swords that were forged by a skilled blacksmith, but multiple swords built by an unfathomably large invisible/incorporeal presence VS real swords, probably not too big of a difference in the heat of battle. (Afterwards the extra swords all disappear - he phases them back out and then breaks them back down into components so he can use them elsewhere. It's a whole Thing the sentient cities do)

Since there are only four Sovereigns, its somewhat easy to generalize their behaviors - if under attack at their homes, the other three would prefer to do something simple and quick (such as liquefy the floors) rather than play around like this. The Beacon's layout is significantly more vertical than the others though, so if he were to liquify the floors, the invaders would fall a very long way before he stopped them noclipping, and this would all probably cause much distress to residents that saw it. It is a simple way to take care of the issue to be sure, but he'd prefer to save it for bigger problems.
