Wet Beast Wednesday: channel catfish
I like cats and I like fish, so it's a bit silly that I haven't done a WBW on catfish yet. Time to fix that. The channel catfish may not be the most spectacular of all catfish, but it's a skilled survivor and a tenacious little fish worthy of respect.
(Image: a channel catfish swimming in clear water. It is a long fish woth a round body and a broad, flat head. The fins are rounded and the anal fin is long and runs under the back half of the body. A fleshy adipose fin is on the top of the tail. The eyes are round and protrude from the head. Four pairs of barbels grow from around the mouth, the the largest extending from the upper lip. The body is a murky brown, with a white underbelly. End ID)
The majority of channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) reach 30 to 60 cm (1-2 ft) in length and weigh between 1 and 2 kg (2-4 lbs), but they grow throughout their lives and can occasionally get much larger. The world record channel catfish weighed 58 lbs (26 kg). Channel cats possess traits typical of catfish. The bodies are cylindrical and scaleless and four pairs of long, sensory barbels grow from around the mouth. The pectoral and dorsal fins have spines that are filled with venom which can cause stinging and numbness in humans. I know this from personal experience.
(Image: a channel catfish swimming over rocky substrate in murky water. End ID)
Channel catfish are heavily adapted to live in low-visibility environments by heavily focusing on senses other than sight. They have a powerful sense of smell thanks to heavily packed olfactory receptors in their nostrils. A channel cat can smell amino acids at concentrations of 1 part per 100 million. In addition to their mouths, channel catfish also have taste buds covering their skin, essentially turning their bodies into one big tongue. The taste buds are most concentrated on the barbels, which the catfish uses to help detect sources of food. Catfish hearing is enhanced by the presence of a Weberian apparatus, a complex system of bone and ossicles that connects the auditory system to the swim bladder. This allows the swim bladder to amplify vibrations, allowing sounds too quiet for the inner ear to normally detect to become audible.
Pogfish (Image: a channel catfish with mouth open, about to bite onto a baited hook. End ID)
Channel catfish are found in the eastern half of North America from Canada to northeastern Mexico. They can tolerate salt and brackish water, but are mostly found in freshwater, where they can inhabit everything from crystal-clear streams to murky lakes. While channel cats are omnivorous, they are specialized to act as predators in murky water. They are nocturnal ambush predators who retreat to deep water in the day and move to shallower water to hunt at night. They will either sit still and wait for prey to pass or slowly search through rugged areas, using their barbels to investigate crevices where prey could hide. Their nostrils and taste buds help finding prey, specifically by detecting the amino acids L-alanine and L-arganine, which are shed by animals. When catfish detect amino acids, they have been observed getting excited: turning, biting, and maneuvering themselves toward prey. As with other catfish, they rapidly open their mouths to create suction and force prey inside, where it is swallowed whole. Catfish will eat just about anything they can find, including small fish, various invertebrates, snakes, amphibians, insects, small mammals and birds, algae, seeds, nuts, and other plant material. Their diet becomes more carnivorous as they get older. Channel catfish are not social outside of mating and establish territories. They appear to follow a dominance hierarchy with larger animals claiming better territories and fighting to maintain them.
(Image: a channel catfish swimming amongst rocks. End ID)
Channel catfish have a complex system of communication using both chemical and auditory cues. Catfish in general can produce pheromones that can be used to recognize other specific individuals. They use these to advertise their presence to each other and mark their territory. Channel catfish can use pheromones to determine the sex, age, and size of another member of their species without ever actually encountering them and can differentiate between other species of catfish that share their habitat. When a channel cat detects another in its territory, it can mark its territory by altering its scent through a chemical change in the composition of the amino acids in its mucus. This scent does not linger long and is used as a challenge to the intruder, telling it to either leave or be prepared to fight. The change in scent may be regulated by club cells, specialized pheromone-producing cells found in the skin. The cells don't directly open to the water. It is hypothesized that injury may expose the club cells and cause them to release their contents. This would inform other catfish in the area of the injury, which could lead to a change in the local dominance hierarchy. Sound is produced through stridulation: clicking and grinding the bones of the pectoral girdle and the spine that leads the pectoral fins. By moving the base of the spine over the pectoral girdle, the fish can make a variety of noises. These noises vary in based on the movement of the fin and based on size and possibly sex, allowing channel catfish to learn about others that they hear. Channel cats will use noises to communicate dominance with each other and to startle predators, allowing for an escape while alerting any other catfish in the area of the predator's presence. If you've every caught a catfish and heard it make a croaking noise, now you know what's happening. Curiously, individual channel catfish will have a preference for which fin they use to make noise, with the majority favoring their right fin. This could be analogous to right and left handedness in humans.
youtube
(Video: a catfish that has been caught by an angler. It is being held by a tool and is making croaking noises. End ID)
Channel catfish spawn in spring and summer, when the water is consistently warm. Males will look for a cavity of some kind, which could be a crevice in rocks, a bank underhand, a spot beneath a log or other structure, or artificial objects like the inside of litter. He will clean the area of silt and mud to expose a hard bottom and then release pheromones to attract a female. Other males may attempt to drive him from his nest to claim it for themselves, leading to fights. When a female is interested, the two will enter the nest and remain there for up to 6 hours as eggs are laid. Females can release 2,000 to 4,000 eggs per pound of her weight and will do so in batches, with the male fertilizing them as they are laid. The eggs are yellowish and stick to hard surfaces. Once the eggs are laid, the male will chase the female from the nest and guard the eggs until they hatch. Until then, he will fan the eggs with his tail to keep oxygenated flowing over them and aggressively attack any perceived threat. Channel catfish in the wild only mate once per year, though males raised in captivity may attempt multiple matings. Larvae are hatched with the egg sac still attacked and survive on yolk for a few days until it falls off. After that, they have an algae-based diet that will gradually shift to carnivory as they age. Young channel catfish are a yellowish-brown with dark spots along the body while adults are a muddy brown all over.

(Image: a juvenile channel catfish held by me. It is a miniature version of an adult, with proportionately longer barbels and eyes. The body is a yellowish color. It is smaller than the thumb in the image. End ID
Channel catfish are classified as least concern by the IUCN, meaning they are not in danger of extinction. Channel catfish are the most widely distributed and populous catfish in North America. In the USA, channel catfish are a major food source and the channel catfish aquaculture industry is the largest aquaculture in the country. Channel catfish are raised in artificial ponds or other structures and are usually harvested for their meat at two years old. That's a lot for an animal that tastes like congealed air. Channel catfish are also a popular sport fish for their edibility and the fight they put up when hooked. Their use as food and for sport is a major reason for their introduction outside of their range. This has led to them becoming an invasive species in multiple countries, where they outcompete native species.

I've been writing an important secondary character who is deaf. For the most part I'm quite confident with this. I mention sign language in nearly every scene where he's present (I don't want to overdo it so I use other dialogue tags as well, avoiding any that would be exclusively vocal) and there are other deaf characters present in the story. It's fantasy, so there's magic. at one point, this deaf character is going through a number of rites and rituals in preparation for a very important ceremony, as he is inheriting his deceased grandfather's leadership position. One of these rites requires him to use magic to enhance his senses before a hunt, mostly to increase his spiritual sensitivity.
I know most deaf people are not 100% total silence deaf, and for the sake of my magic system it's easier for him to enhance all his senses at once, so what little hearing he does have is also enhanced. the effect is temporary, and it does not change anything about his natural abilities, so he's still deaf. It's kind of like he just put on intangible aids over all his senses, making everything sharper, making his brain process the sensory information faster and in more detail. I thought I had described it well, so it would be clear that he's still deaf but more aware of the little sounds he can hear. but some people in my writing group apparently read this as if he was temporarily no longer deaf.
I don't know how much of this is a problem of my own description, and how much is just them not paying attention (one of them keeps forgetting this character is deaf at all, despite how often I mention sign language in the narrative, and the other can't even track the differences between my elves and my bird people, despite the fact that they've seen all my art and the elves are not even remotely bird-like.)
I'd like some feedback so I can fix this passage on revision and make it more clear. here's the excerpt where the deaf character complains about the enhanced hearing: (sign language had already been mentioned a few times in paragraphs before this scene, but maybe I should add more descriptions of hand gestures? I don't have a specific sign language to reference, since it's a fantasy)
“Do you know the worst thing about enhanced senses? It affects my ears too.” He bared his teeth slightly and huffed. “I usually only hear a few deep sounds, faintly. I feel the vibration of my own voice. But now it’s all a little sharper and I find it disorienting.” “Why did you enhance your senses if you hate it so much?” Morianon laughed but his brow furrowed sympathetically. “Because it also enhances my spiritual senses,” K’arik explained, “so I need it to do this hunt correctly, as part of the rituals. Can’t pick and choose which senses get a boost, you know? The magic gets unstable if you spend time nitpicking.”
Hi!
Overall this sounds pretty good. I'd say if the enhancement only enhances sounds he can hear unaided or enhances sounds over a variety of pitches without bringing him to full hearing levels, that mimics the experience of hearing assistive devices. Additionally if it doesn't eliminate the processing difficulties and overstimulation that come with hearing and listening as a deaf person, that adds to the accuracy.
I would avoid sharpening the sound quality or processing abilities in his case--for someone fully hearing, they have the necessary skills to better process auditory information. For a deaf person, more sound is just more overwhelming information.
To me it doesn't sound like you're erasing his deafness--I'm curious what your writing group thinks hearing aids or CIs do. I don't think you need any more description of sign language than what you have, and it's fine to use "said" and similar dialogue tags.
Overall this sounds like a really great Deaf character! :) [smile face]

Totally for unrelated reasons, what are some more facts about communication drones? Like uhhh specific anatomy ect?
Prepare to get spammed with information! 👀
Communication Drones Infopost
Communication Drones (calling them CDs for short here) are a sub-type of Worker Drones fitted with antenna and special storage systems meant to analyze, store and transcrypt incoming and outgoing signals between Outposts, (human) landing pods and machinery.
CDs can also communicate with each other & Workers around them in a certain range which allows them to be very effective in sending out orders en masse to other Drones.
(more below the cut for their anatomy, specialities and more!)
Most CDs have two to four antennas fixiated to their head which are directly connected to their auditory entrance (or well, 'ears' as we would call it in human terms) which makes their antennas vital for their work and general hearing. Damaged or removed antennas may result in a CD losing their ability to hear or at least reduce it greatly.
Depending on the size of the antennas it's easy to see what purpose the CD served - long antennas are usually paired with long-range signals which put the individuals at use to distribute orders, arrange communication between ships & pods on their way to other exoplanets (when humans were still around) and to manage incoming signals from other planets & stations/outposts.
Short antennas usually indicated a more localized position for the drone in question - mainly within a singular Outpost or in ships to work directly connected to the local machinery and computers, sending orders in smaller ranged areas and storing security data.
Most CDs have secondary enhancers which work similar to a short-range antenna allowing them to switch between long and short range at will (mainly used for CDs that had flexible working places between ground & flight).
Generally, the antennas also function as "mood indicator". They can rotate around themselves and change position dependant on a fixed motion range around the head - similar to how e.g animals use their ears to indicate mood, CDs quickly took these habits from dogs that were around Copper-9 and video material of animals and copied them. Not all CDs did or do that, but alot of them do. For example if an individual is excited/attentive, the antennas would stick right up. If they're overwhelmed/annoyed/angry they'd usually be lowered down or pressed against the sides of the head.
They were expected to be very attentive and pay close attention to details. Their inner storage was designed to hold literal months and even years of auditory data that they recieved which was usually extracted every 4-6 months via the ports on their back which connected directly to the storage. Without these "clear outs" most CDs experience involuntary deletion of audio files which is out of their control and might result in them forgetting things they've heard/analyzed before.
Other than those two features their anatomy is fairly similar to that of normal Workers, height etc. as well.
After the humans disappearance alot of CDs lost their use as there... well, were no orders to share and no signals to analyze. Some of them struggled with this loss of "useability", some were fairly happy about this.
Lost/destroyed antennas cannot be restored by themselves (well, unless a CD is a Solver User like Kira) and CDs usually do not take well to losing or damaging antennas. Enhancers aren't as sensitive, but still hurt. Touching them might also cause disruption in hearing for CDs, it would be like someone rang a bell next to a humans ear for them. :'D (no touchie!)
CDs are generally connected to ECHO in the MD: Echo story (outside of that this plot point doesn't matter, just mentioning it here haha). Since Kira was the first CD Echo tried to use as host it developed an interested in them since CDs are great tools to be used for mass-ordering hosts.
Alot of CDs were destroyed while the humans were still around, especially if their warranty expired or they became damaged, to prevent sensitive information (such as orders and analyzed data) from leaking or being stolen by enemy forces/entities.
CDs infected with a Solver usually had enhanced auditory strenghts, capable of sending much stronger signals regardless of their antenna's natural range of reach - and they could also "ping" other Users & Hosts which makes them easy tools of manipulation. Luckily the only known CD which acted as AS Host was Kira who was "patched", so it couldn't spread for now (excluding Echo :'D)

Ok here are those cool facial structure facts I wanted to highlight… :] (uhh shitty drawing warning)
Seen above, the most basic components of an Ivilitium’s facial features. (Like, really basic, lol). Self explanatory. These are consistent in all Ivilitium species. I plan to make a in-depth explanation/naming for each of these in the future… after I semi-finalise their design. I must show you guys their teeth- or should I say… blades heheh.
This is also a rough draft. (Intended so that I can make a better one in the near future). I would be happy to receive your opinion on what you would change/add! Do you see anything as impractical? Do you have Any questions? Suggestions? I am very open to constructive criticism!
everything has its use… or will be assigned a use eventually, because if not I will be pissed. Not a single thing can only be for design purposes.
——————
-The first and most beloved cool fact I have about their facial structure is their facial disk, which extends from the sides of their face, starting at the jawline and ending under their outer ears. Their outer ears aren’t connected to it, allowing for them to rotate and collect sound better from other areas. their natural resting position aligns neatly with their disk, though. The facial disk’s main purpose is to capture sound waves better, enhancing the Ivilitium’s auditory sense. It is analogous to how you cup your hands behind your ears to hear better. The Ivilitium’s brow ridges also play a part in directing sound waves that have made contact with the face towards the ears. I have made a simple GIF illustrating how the shape of the their facial features smoothly guide the sound waves into the ears… sound waves that diverge from the face are all captured by the facial disk. And curiously, right before entering the ears, sound waves from the facial disk will perform a little “loop” of sorts. (It is explained best by the GIF).
- don’t be fooled by their ‘nose’! Their real airway entrances are placed at the sides of the neck, near the face. They are positioned snugly between the sternocleidomastoid and the brachiocephalicus, and given form by a muscular ring capable of closing. These spiracles are equipped with a filtration system, (that’s for another post), and their distance from the lungs gives time for the inhaled air to be warmed by the body’s natural heat.
- They have an olfactory system located at front of their face, separate from their respiratory system. (I have multiple ideas for the reason behind this separation, but I’m still deciding which one I should choose).
- They have two pairs of vibrissae (whiskers, rictal bristles, whatever you want to call them.) located just above their brow ridges. These are for stimuli detection purposes. Their vibrissae help detect faint vibrations caused by movement in the surrounding environment, which is very useful when navigating and hunting for prey, especially in the dark. (Ivilitium hunt nocturnally). Ivilitium vibrissae are not as sensitive as a cat’s or dog’s.
- their facial disk and head plates are neither fur, scales or feathers. Instead, they are something in a completely new category. I like to call them plates. These ‘plates’ are a slightly thick and stiff. The plates on an Ivilitium’s head will naturally always grow away from the face, and can also be found on the back of the neck. They can be moved… for example plates could be moved in a way that might look a bit like bangs to us. It’s not a common occurrence for Ivilitium to do this, though. It is seen widely as impractical in most cases.
- Their eyes are larger, have a higher rod cell density than ours, and posses tapetum lucidum, a reflective membrane behind their retina. (Ivilitium have much better night vision). They have a slightly wider peripheral vision than humans due to their eye positioning on their face, and good binocular vision and depth perception, which is crucial as a predator.
- They have a medium-length snout and a flat/smooth-ish facial structure (regarding the forehead and jaw specifically) for a more efficient bite and minimal strain, since strain is more evenly distributed when force is exerted. The snout tapers a bit at the end with round edges.
——————
I am definitely forgetting something or getting some information wrong because I did not proofread this enough times lol… Plus normally I do my extensive beforehand research but with school I half-assed this one since I wanted to get it out of my brain 👍🏼

Hex Biological Headcanons
Lately I've been thinking about how the Proto-frames like, work. Obviously a lot of sci-fi/void bullshit at play but hey it's fun to think about these things, so here's some thoughts.
Each of the Hex's mutations were designed to help facilitate their abilities.
Quincy: Occipital lobe and auditory cortex have become greatly enhanced, allowing him to utilize sonar like a dolphin or bat. His own eyes are actually relatively untouched, but he can physically see through the Neutralizer (which was grown from his own body), whose scope is filled with high amount of rods and cones. Limbs have been developed to absorb and minimize kickback from the gun.
Arthur: Enhancements mainly to his vestibular and nervous systems to vastly improve his balance and reflexes, allowing him to handle the speed of slash dash and perform precise blade movements even in the heat of action. Unfortunately this stuff wears out his stamina quickly, but his liver and kidneys have become highly efficient at removing lactic acid so he can recover more quickly (tragically this means he can't stay drunk for as long).
Aoi: Relatively unmutated. Most notable changes however are that her skeleton has become completely encased in magnetite and she's developed new nerves that detect the subtle ways in which said casing is pulled, providing her with magnetoreception. The coils around her arms are a protrusion from her bones. She's constantly beset by iron cravings, which she's come to interpret as pica (we'll get back to this).
Eleanor: Nervous system is no longer recognizably human. Her brain has become highly derived to both transmit her thoughts and read others, while the rest of her nerves have greatly multiplied in order to simulate the vast array of new sensations she can experience. This is the primary cause of her runaway mutation, as it left her mind an open frequency before she had a handle on her abilities. The local technocyte picked up on this and saw her as a disconnected node. In trying to reclaim her, her infection developed in unintended ways, leaving her internals a mess. Though she's no longer contagious, her infection is still active, and will continue progressing if shes not careful when attuning to the technocyte hivemind.
Lettie: Relatively unmutated like Aoi. Th majority of her abilities stem from more "pure" void usage, however she did acquire the ability to sense the state of cells in other organic beings. This unconsciously fuels her bias against Eleanor, as she can sense the degree to which the technocyte has penetrated Eleanor's body. Her own lack of outward mutations is also why she's more strongly in denial about her state than the others.
Amir: The second most mutated after Eleanor. Enlarged heart and lungs for better respiration, and all centers of his brain having to do with time perception have become greatly enhanced. His experiences time slower than others, which allows him to process information more quickly and also greatly greatly exasperates his ADHD. Muscle and nervous systems have developed elecrocytes through which he projects electric pulses. Has similarly improved filtration systems like Arthur to prevent wear-out while maintaining top speeds.
All proto-frames have vastly increased metabolic needs. Their abilities really burn those calories! Likewise, they have increased needs for iron and carbon in their diets. They're more prone to anemia as a result, and burnt food has become strangely appealing.
Not all their augments are due to their infections. Each has a parazon that was surgically implemented by Entrati. Likewise, they're able to use void abilities independently of an operator (this is confirmed, not headcanon), which not even future warframes can do. It is possible Entrati installed miniature versions of the Heart of Deimos in each of the proto-frames that were able to survive their infections, likely in place of their actual hearts.

The Transformative Power of Sound

Sound is more than just an auditory experience; it is a powerful force that can heal, inspire, and transform our minds, bodies, and souls. From ancient civilizations that used chants and drums in their rituals to modern scientists studying the therapeutic effects of sound waves, the significance of sound in shaping human experience is undeniable. Whether through music, nature sounds, or carefully crafted frequencies, sound has the capacity to alter consciousness, enhance well-being, and connect us to something greater than ourselves.
The Science of Sound and Its Impact on the Brain
Sound is a form of energy that travels through vibrations, affecting everything it touches--including our brains. Neuroscientists have discovered that different frequencies and types of sound can activate various neural pathways, influencing mood, cognition, and even physical health. Studies show that listening to music can trigger the release of dopamine, the brain's "feel-good" neurotransmitter, leading to improved mood and reduced stress.
Additionally, brainwave entrainment, a phenomenon where rhythmic auditory stimuli synchronize with brainwave activity, has been shown to induce states of deep relaxation, heightened focus, and even altered consciousness. Binaural beats, a form of auditory illusion created by playing two slightly different frequencies in each ear, can encourage the brain to enter specific states, such as alpha waves for relaxation or theta waves for meditation and creativity.
Sound Healing and Its Ancient Roots
Long before science began studying sound's effects, ancient civilizations recognized its power. The use of sound in healing rituals can be traced back to Egyptian, Greek, and Indian cultures. In Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine, mantras and specific sound vibrations are used to balance the body's energy centers, or chakras. Similarly, Tibetan monks have used singing bowls and overtone chanting for centuries to promote meditation and spiritual enlightenment.
One of the most well-documented sound healing techniques is the use of Solfeggio frequencies--specific tones believed to possess healing properties. For example, the 528 Hz frequency, often called the "Love Frequency," is associated with DNA repair and positive transformation. These frequencies have been incorporated into modern sound therapy practices to promote emotional healing and personal growth.
Music as a Tool for Transformation
Music is perhaps the most universal and accessible form of sound therapy. It has the ability to evoke emotions, stimulate memories, and create profound shifts in consciousness. Certain types of music, such as classical compositions or ambient soundscapes, can induce relaxation and enhance concentration, while upbeat rhythms can energize and motivate.
Music therapy has been increasingly used in clinical settings to aid patients with neurological disorders, anxiety, and depression. For instance, Alzheimer's patients often experience memory recall when exposed to familiar music from their past, demonstrating music's deep connection to the brain's memory centers. Additionally, rhythm-based therapies, such as drumming circles, have been used to help individuals process trauma and express emotions non-verbally.
Nature Sounds and Their Restorative Effects
Beyond human-made music, the sounds of nature have a profound impact on our well-being. Studies have shown that listening to natural soundscapes--such as ocean waves, rustling leaves, or birdsong--can significantly reduce stress and promote a sense of tranquility. This is because nature sounds have an inherent ability to mask jarring noises, lower cortisol levels, and activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for relaxation and recovery.
Shinrin-yoku, or "forest bathing," a Japanese practice of immersing oneself in the sounds and sights of the forest, has been found to have numerous health benefits, including reduced blood pressure and enhanced mood. This underscores the idea that sound, even in its most organic form, plays a crucial role in our mental and physical health.
The Role of Sound in Meditation and Spiritual Practices
For centuries, various spiritual traditions have used sound to deepen meditation and enhance spiritual experiences. Chanting, toning, and singing bowls are commonly employed to help individuals reach altered states of consciousness. The repetition of sacred sounds, such as "Om" in Hindu and Buddhist traditions, is believed to attune the body to the vibrations of the universe, fostering a sense of unity and inner peace.
In modern meditation practices, guided sound meditations and sound baths have gained popularity. Sound baths, which involve being enveloped in soothing sounds from gongs, crystal bowls, or tuning forks, can facilitate deep relaxation, emotional release, and even profound spiritual experiences. Many people report feeling a sense of weightlessness or transcendence after such sessions, further proving sound's ability to alter perception and elevate consciousness.
Using Sound Intentionally in Everyday Life
Given sound's transformative potential, incorporating intentional sound practices into daily life can be profoundly beneficial. Here are a few ways to harness the power of sound:
Create a Personal Sound Sanctuary: Dedicate a space for relaxation with soothing music, singing bowls, or ambient soundscapes.
Use Binaural Beats or Isochronic Tones: Experiment with brainwave entrainment for focus, relaxation, or meditation.
Engage in Vocal Toning or Chanting: Using your own voice to produce vibrations can be a powerful tool for self-healing.
Spend Time in Nature: Listen to the sounds of water, birds, or wind to restore balance and calm the mind.
Play or Listen to Music Mindfully: Instead of passive listening, actively engage with music, paying attention to how it affects your emotions and body.
Conclusion
The power of sound is undeniable--it shapes our emotions, influences our physiology, and connects us to deeper aspects of ourselves and the world around us. Whether through music, nature sounds, ancient healing practices, or modern therapeutic techniques, sound offers a gateway to transformation. By consciously incorporating sound into our lives, we can harness its ability to heal, inspire, and elevate our consciousness. In a world filled with noise, learning to listen intentionally can be one of the most profound tools for personal and collective transformation.

To the Cabal & Those Of Baal Worship
Do you want to know a secret?
- Remember the good ole days when someone had to be wired to gather information for a sting operation?
- Remember how someone would be searched before they entered a high security area for secret meetings you didn't want recorded on record?
- Remember when you could ensure that if someone would speak of what went on you had a way to get rid of them?
I want you to think of a hypothetical technology for second. Let's call it "Bio-Sensory Neural Interface" or "Energetic Biofield Interface" (EBI)
What can this technology achieve?
• The Bio-Sensory Neural Interface (BSNI) technology represents intelligence-gathering methodologies. It leverages the interaction between advanced computational systems and the human energetic biofield to facilitate seamless, real-time communication and data acquisition from human sensory experiences.
• Utilizes sophisticated sensors to interact with the human biofield, capturing and interpreting electromagnetic signals naturally emitted by the body.
• Enables non-invasive interfacing, ensuring the integrity and operational security of the actor.
Real-Time Sensory Data Transmission:
• Converts sensory input (visual, auditory, olfactory, and tactile) into digital data streams, allowing remote operators to experience the actor's environment firsthand.
• Acts as a live sensory transceiver, making the human body a dynamic tool for intelligence collection.
Cognitive Communication:
• Facilitates direct, silent communication between the operator and the actor through thought transmission, eliminating the need for spoken words or physical devices.
• Supports bidirectional communication, enabling strategic planning and real-time adjustments through inner dialogue.
What does this basically mean in more mundane terms?
This basically eliminates the need for physical implants or external devices, reducing the risk of detection and enhancing the safety of the operative in sensitive environments. Which means you could never detect any infiltration apparatus. You could never know who is working for the good guys.
This is one reason why your plans never pan out. This is why you can never quite nail down why something didn't go as planned. This is why you can never trace or track how certain info was shared to those who were never invited to your secret clandestine meetings.
You think because you hold them while a major celebrity is performing in town that the powerful political figures attending would fly under the radar because everyone is distracted with Taylor Swift? You are some funny guys.
BSNI technology is ideally suited for intelligence operations requiring high levels of discretion and security. Its applications extend to military intelligence, covert operations, and high-stakes negotiations where traditional intelligence methods may be impractical or too intrusive. And please avoid trying to look up this technology. This is not what it is called.
This is Mind-to-Mind technology. You all have been caught with your pants down. And now you are way too far behind to catch up to how this could have possibly been used against you. Now you are scrambling. Trying to wonder how you have had to resort to outright assassination attempts. Something that wasn't on the cards before you 1st tried years ago.
Oh' well. You lose. Off to G¡tmo you go. Pain-(☠️) is in your future.

Synchronization Between Prosthesis and Senses
Augmented Reflexes: His bionic arm could have a feedback system connected to his heightened senses, allowing it to respond to auditory or visual cues faster than he can consciously react. For instance, if he hears a sudden change in someone’s heartbeat behind him (indicating they’re approaching or tensing up), his arm could twitch or adjust as if ready to defend or counter.
Haptic Feedback in the Arm: The prosthesis could have sensors that translate environmental data into subtle vibrations or pressure signals, which Piers can feel. For example, in low-light or when he’s using his thermal vision, his arm might subtly vibrate in response to nearby heat sources, giving him a “sixth sense” of people around him without needing to look.
Sensory Overload Thresholds and Control Mechanism
Virus-Triggered Sensory Intensity: When the Virus exerts more control, his senses might intensify to the point where every heartbeat, heat signature, or movement becomes sharply defined and almost overwhelming. This state would enhance his perception but at the cost of mental strain, making it harder for him to focus or maintain rational thought.
Adaptive Mutation in His Arm
Augmented Physical Connection: The prosthetic side of his arm might integrate more closely with the mutating side over time. This would create a unique “fusion” effect where the prosthetic adapts, mirroring changes in the mutation, like absorbing textures or contours that appear on his mutated tissue. This would blur the line between machine and biology even further, reflecting his struggle to retain his humanity.
Predator-Like Instinct Mode
Automatic Threat Detection: If his hearing detects an elevated heartbeat or his eye picks up sudden movement, it could trigger an “instinct mode” where his sensory focus shifts fully onto the target—heightening his reaction time and awareness of that individual’s actions. This would make him hyper-focused on potential threats, though it risks distracting him from other surroundings.
Animalistic Responses to Stress: When the Virus exerts control, Piers’ responses could become more instinctual. For instance, if his mutated eye detects an unexpected heat signature, his body might involuntarily tense, his senses heighten, and his arm adopt a defensive posture. He might also develop reflexes that resemble predatory behavior, like tracking movement without moving his head.

Part Three of my late submissions of RvB OC week! Day 3: Project Freelancer and Charon Industries
I chose this day to introduce the rest of the Canadian Division of PFL, whose origins I discussed in my first post.
Agent New Brunswick (he/them), also known as Brunie and Newb, are a DID system consisting of Matt and Jean-Luc Harper, respectively. Matt, the protector alter, is a CQC specialist, and his weapons of choice are a shotgun and combat knives. Jean-Luc, the host, rarely fronts in combat, but typically takes on a stealth role when he does, preferring to use pistols. Their armour is installed with a strength enhancement module. During their downtime, Jean-Luc enjoys baking and cooking, which he finds relaxing, while Matt likes to let off steam by lifting weights and going on runs through the ship.
Quote: "A bilingual clusterfuck who still somehow manages to be the most generic of the provinces. Guess our name's fitting."
(the picrew I used for these is unfortunately no longer available, but the artist is on tumblr at this link!)
Agent Prince Edward Island (he/him), also known as Prince, is Mark Rowe, an assault specialist with OCD. His compulsions stem off the number three, so he exclusively uses a battle rifle, which fires in three-round bursts, and bases his combat rhythm off timing in threes. His armour is installed with an EMP module. In his off-hours, Mark can be found making friendship bracelets for the team, convincing everyone with long hair to let him braid it, and knitting.
Quote: "I kinda think I was assigned this name because they clocked me. Not sure whether to be mad or flattered by the comparison."
Agent Newfoundland (he/him), aka Newf, is Angus Moore, a stealth specialist with GAD. This anxiety generally means he's extremely on guard, keeping hyperaware of all the variables and moving parts in a situation going on around him until he sees the perfect time to strike- moving in hard and fast with his pistols and combat knives. His armour is installed with a speed enhancement unit. During down-time, Angus plays the violin, which he credits for a lot of his manual dexterity, and keeps fish- a meticulous job full of checking water chemistry and tank cleanliness, but worth it to be able to watch them swim around.
Quote: "My social anxiety does not extend to situations where my fish are involved. I'll start a tilly gladly if you mess with them. Or rant for an hour if you ask."
Agent Quebec (he/him) is Eli Levesque, one of two leadership specialists in CanDiv. Eli's autism means that he communicates very clearly and directly- which ensures the team operates with very little room for misunderstanding. He prefers to lead from the front, where he can "feel" the situation, so favours an assault rifle and SMG, and his armour is installed with a healing unit. In between missions, Eli takes every chance he can to socially depressurize- he can usually be found in an observation room watching the stars, or alone in his quarters painting. Even though he doesn't bother to mask as much with the team, he can never seem to let it go entirely unless he's by himself, and he definitely needs time somewhere quite to recover from an overstimulating career.
Quote: "Turns out autistic people make pretty good leaders when we're not catering to neurotypicals. Funny, that."
Agent Ontario (she/her), or "auntie", is Laura Foster, the second of the two leadership specialists in CanDiv. Laura has schizophrenia, which manifests as blunted affect and auditory hallucinations of voices "reminding" her about things happening around her and help her to keep everything straight on the battlefield, so she gives very even-keeled and organized orders. She prefers to lead from above, where she can obtain better tactical information, so she wields a battle rifle and sniper rifle, and her armour is installed with a bubble shield module. During days off, she enjoys drawing, where she usually sketches surrealist art pieces reflecting her emotions, and baking with other members of the team (partially an excuse to watch food being made, which she finds relaxing).
Quote: "My ODST squad used to think it was incredible that I never got scared on drops. I didn't have the heart to tell them it was just blunted affect and I was terrified."
Agent Nunavut (she/them) is Amaudla Kalluk, an autistic recon specialist. They were raised a hunter, with a very formulaic understanding of both human and animal behaviour that they apply to enemies they observe on missions. Being frequently nonverbal, Amaudla often communicates through Inuit Sign Language and facial expression- though on missions, she instead will use an instant messaging system connected to her neural interface. She favours a DMR and shotgun combo, and her armour is installed with an adaptive camouflage system. On her off-time, she enjoys playing the flute and making jewellery, as well as doing photography when she can- though living in a space where most operations are classified makes that difficult.
Quote: "Talking's overrated. I have better things to do."
Agent Manitoba (she/her), aka Toba, is Rumaisa Badr, an infiltration specialist with OCD. Though they make her miserable in a lot of ways, her compulsions mean she has become extremely procedural and meticulous when she's doing infiltration work, with a lot of hyperattention to detail, which also means she's extremely effective. She uses SMGs and pistols, and her armour is installed with an adaptive camouflage system. In her free time, Rumaisa sews, bakes, and builds small robotics projects- usually things that allow her to train her fine motor control and precision. She also has a bad habit of compulsively doing maintenance on everyone's equipment.
Quote: "In your space marine helmet, nobody can hear you tic alhamdulillah."
Agent Northwest Territories (they/them), aka Terri, is Max Davis, an assault specialist with bipolar I disorder. Their manic and hypomanic states make them extremely confident and effective on the battlefield, a bit of a force of nature- though that comes at the cost of recklessness and chaos, as well as their performance suffering during depressive spells. They favour SMGs and a shotgun, and their armour is installed with a speed enhancement unit. Max has many, many hobbies- they play electric guitar, they paint, they play video games, they exercise... and they bake and cook, if with a teammate- they have binge eating disorder and don't trust themself around food otherwise, but they're an incredible chef.
Quote: "Someone has to keep things interesting around here. That's why you need my chaotic ass."
Agent Saskatchewan (he/him), aka Sask, is Keasik Calihoo, an assault specialist with ADHD-HT. His hyperactivity means he's become very good at processing a lot of things at once, and his impulsiveness means he adapts quickly to changing circumstances and will charge into the thick of a fight without hesitation. Keasik favours a classic assault rifle and magnum combo, and his armour is equipped with a healing unit. In his downtime, he likes to bead, play video games, and sometimes play pranks on his fellow agents- though he has to be careful lest it spiral into a vicious war.
Quote: "I'm pretty sure ass-kicking and chocolate milk need to be added to the list of sacred medicines."
Agent British Columbia (he/him), aka B.C. or Beece, is Shaun Park, a CQC specialist with ASPD. Without the ability to feel empathy for his enemies, and a tendency towards reckless lack of self-preservation, he doesn't hesitate in combat. He prefers leaning into intimidation tactics to scare his enemies shitless and give himself a leg up tactically, so employs the use of flamethrowers and combat knives when feasible, as well as his standard pistol sidearm, and also makes use of his armour's enhanced strength module. In his downtime, Shaun is a bit of a recluse, having social anxiety, but he can usually be lured out to play chess, to work out with Brunie or Terri, or to join in on a cooking session.
Quote: "I don't even like fire that much. But when stereotypes give you a convenient intimidation factor like this, you can't really pass it up."
Agent Yukon (he/them), aka Yuke, is Luke Marquez, an autistic infiltration specialist. Luke has an encyclopedic knowledge of locks, computers, and security alarm systems- they're his special interest, and he can get himself into just about anywhere. The problem comes when they're faced with the combat part of the job- Luke has such severe anxiety surrounding violence after accidentally killing someone in basic training that they essentially become nonfunctional in combat situations. Their armour is fitted with active camouflage, so in a combat scenario they generally just hide and continue working on infiltration or sabotaging enemy systems. In his downtime, he generally knits, crochets, and studies computer systems and lockpicking. They're also frequently recruited to pranks-based shenanigans whenever Sask starts something again.
Quote: "I don't think I can ever shoot someone again. But I can still sabotage their equipment so you guys can do it for me."
I haven't gotten around to writing anything with these guys yet, so they're still not the most fleshed out- but the intention is for their dynamic to be close-knit and accepting, trying to work with each others' neuroses and challenges, but also being dysfunctional and messy sometimes as is unavoidable in life. Sometimes Terri, Beece, and Sask encourage the worst parts of each others' impulsive and reckless habits. Sometimes Eli and Laura's blunt leadership style rubs people the wrong way. Sometimes the more chaotic members of the team clash with the more anxious ones, generating stress and conflict for everyone. Sometimes, despite everyone's best efforts, people are going to have bad mental health days that make it difficult, even impossible for them to work. They're an imperfect, messed up little family that are allowing themselves to be used because have nowhere else to go- or at least believe they don't. And when they finally realize the full extent of the exploitation they're about to be subjected to... well, they bite back hard and rip Project Freelancer a new one.
We hear about the Freelancers' "uprising" in canon, trying to free the Alpha and such, but we're only ever really shown Tex and York's one break-in. Personally, I choose to say there's more to it than that, that we never see- and CanDiv is part of the fun.

I've seen a LOT of shaming going round at the moment, both here and on twitter, of people who are seeking out good omens spoilers, mostly by those who have watched the new episodes in advance. despite what neil and david and michael may have said on the subject, it's rubbing me the wrong way! so I feel the need to make a potentially unpopular post about
✨SPOILERS AND NEURODIVERSITY✨
(and accessibility) 🤚🏼
now I cannot speak for everybody here but as an autistic person with ocd I actually !prefer! being spoiled ahead of time and will frequently read the entire wiki article for a show I'm about to watch (though weirdly CANNOT skip ahead with books?) in order to alleviate anxiety around the unexpected. trust me when I say that knowing what will happen in advance *enhances* the experience for me and I have yet to regret being deliberately spoiled, even when it comes to my absolute favourite things on earth, things I may have been waiting months and months (or in this case years) for. in fact, the longer I've had to wait, the more the feeling of gut-twisting anxiety and uncertainty beds down in my system and makes itself a very unwelcome house guest.
it's all very well insisting that everybody just be patient and ~wait and see~ but for a lot of neurodiverse folks this can be a very unsettling prospect. personally, I don't like surprises! I don't crave the sensation of being shocked by an unforeseen twist! it makes me do a panic! even the thought of it makes me feel deeply uncomfortable.
we're not simply throwing our toys out the pram because we WANT something and we WANT IT NOW (shout out to verruca salt). there is a soothing comfort and stability to predictability that is difficult to explain to somebody who doesn't experience this.
at this point I should mention that OBVIOUSLY not all neurodiverse/autistic/diagnosed-ocd people feel this way but that doesn't negate the fact that a lot of us do and there's not much we can do about it.
I'm aware that everybody's currently moralising about the rightness/wrongness of illicitly distributing and trading nuggets of forbidden information like crack-laced pokemon cards* (surely in this fandom everything should exist in a grey area?) but please don't jump on this as an opportunity to prove who's the most terribly righteous and which of us gets to wear the Super Duper Bestest Fan Neil's Favourite prefect badge for the day. devolving into needless factions and one-upmanship so near to the official airdate does nobody any good.
on another personal note (this is the 👂🏼♿accessibility♿👂🏼bit) I was due to attend one of the screenings and now can't due to the apparent lack of subtitles. pleeeeeaase think of accessibility, amazon. please? some of us have severely messed up ears and/or auditory processing disorders - it's not hurting anybody to have the words up on the screen but it excludes many of us if you don't.
again, if you think it's terrible and wrong to want to be spoiled or to share spoilers you are well within your rights to think that, and of course I encourage anybody who is participating in a bit of blackmarket spoiler dealing to utilise ALL the tags you can think of to keep it secret (keep it safe), or simply leave it to the DMs, but I really don't see the good in shaming others who feel differently.
uhh thank you and good day 🎩
(*hopefully that still scans - my references are as ancient and ephemeral as my knee cartilage)
#good omens#gos2 spoilers#go2 spoilers#good omens 2#gos2#good omens season 2#good omens season 2 spoilers#personal#neurodiversity#ocd#did i put enough tags on this one?#i also have adhd and ptsd btw lmao#and an autoimmune disease which causes cognitive impairment#got allllll the high quality genes up in this bad boy [slaps thigh which immediately dislocates]

Spec Evo - Wood Apes
Sasquatch (Gigantopithecus sylvaticus)
Evolutionary Origins
Sasquatch, classified within the Ponginae subfamily, is a surviving descendant of Gigantopithecus blacki, an extinct giant primate that once thrived across Pleistocene Asia. Fossil evidence suggests G. blacki was an herbivorous, forest-dwelling ape, but climate shifts and human expansion likely forced a portion of its population to migrate, adapting over millennia to new ecosystems across North America. Unlike its arboreal relatives, Sasquatch underwent terrestrial gigantism, evolving enhanced bipedal locomotion to navigate dense forests efficiently while retaining strong upper-body musculature suited for climbing and foraging.
Physical Characteristics
Sasquatch stands between 8 to 12 feet tall and weighs over 600 lbs, with a massive, barrel-chested torso covered in thick fur ranging from deep auburn to dark brown or black—an adaptation for insulating against cold climates. Its dermal ridges, observed in footprints, indicate a digitigrade walking posture, reducing noise during movement and aiding stealth. Compared to modern apes, its cranial capacity is significantly larger, suggesting advanced problem-solving abilities and environmental awareness. The mandibles and dentition closely resemble those of Gigantopithecus, with broad molars adapted for grinding fibrous plant matter.
Its skin pigmentation is melanin-rich, allowing mild infrared absorption, a trait observed in some nocturnal mammals for heat regulation. Additionally, Sasquatch exhibits countershading camouflage, where its underside is lighter than its back, reducing visual contrast and aiding concealment in shadowed environments.
Locomotion and Dexterity
Though primarily bipedal, Sasquatch retains semi-quadrupedal flexibility, using its arms for stability when traversing uneven terrain. Its achilles tendon structure suggests explosive bursts of speed when necessary, a trait common in terrestrial primates such as baboons. The prehensile hands have long, dexterous fingers with toughened pads, enabling fine manipulation of objects. Unlike orangutans, whose hand morphology favors grasping branches, Sasquatch exhibits ground-adapted knuckle reinforcement, supporting weight distribution over long distances.
Sensory Adaptations
Sasquatches have exceptional low-light vision, akin to that of nocturnal predators, aided by a tapetum lucidum—a reflective layer behind the retina that enhances night vision. This adaptation allows it to operate efficiently during dawn and dusk, minimizing encounters with human populations.
Auditory capabilities include infrasound communication, a trait found in elephants and tigers, which enables long-distance vocalizations undetectable to human ears. Sasquatches are known to emit deep-chested vocalizations, engage in wood-knocking, and produce whistle-like calls to signal territory or coordinate movement.
Its olfactory senses are highly developed, with Jacobson's organ—an auxiliary sensory system found in some mammals—allowing it to detect pheromonal cues for identifying prey, territorial markings, or environmental changes.
Diet and Foraging Behavior
Sasquatches are opportunistic omnivores, consuming a diet of roots, tubers, fungi, berries, and occasional protein sources such as small mammals or scavenged carcasses. Its powerful jaw muscles allow it to process tough plant fibers, mirroring the dietary adaptations of Gigantopithecus blacki. Unlike obligate carnivores, Sasquatch relies on fermentation in the gut, similar to gorillas, enabling digestion of dense vegetation.
Sasquatch exhibits seasonal dietary shifts, consuming higher-caloric foods in preparation for colder months, similar to bear hibernation patterns. Additionally, they have rudimentary food storage behaviors, including stashing edible material in natural crevices or buried caches.
Social Structure and Territoriality
Unlike other great apes, which display clear troop hierarchies, Sasquatch usually exhibit solitary or small-clan behavior, maintaining vast territorial ranges to avoid competition. Evidence suggests regional vocal dialects, indicating structured communication between individuals occupying adjacent ranges.
Sasquatch exhibits environmental engineering, demonstrated by reports of constructed lean-to shelters, woven branch structures, and strategically placed rock formations for marking territory or guiding navigation. Their ability to manipulate objects implies a rudimentary understanding of tool usage, though primarily for environmental modification rather than advanced crafting.
Ecological Role
As a keystone species, Sasquatch influences forest ecosystems by dispersing seeds through its diet, contributing to vegetative regeneration. Its presence as an apex herbivore helps regulate plant overgrowth, preventing habitat imbalance. Potential interactions with wildlife include avoidance of large predators, using strategic movement to minimize conflicts with bears, mountain lions, or wolves.
Although elusive, Sasquatch sightings have occurred consistently over centuries, aligning with indigenous folklore describing forest-dwelling guardians.
Yeti (Gigantopithecus himalayensis)
Evolutionary Origins
The Yeti, (Gigantopithecus himalayensis), is a high-altitude offshoot of Gigantopithecus blacki, adapted for survival in the extreme conditions of the Himalayas. Fossil evidence indicates that G. blacki thrived in tropical environments, but climate shifts may have forced a population to migrate northward, gradually evolving traits suited for alpine ecosystems. Unlike Sasquatch, which is adapted for temperate forests, the Yeti exhibits cold-weather gigantism, a phenomenon seen in large mammals like bison and bears, where increased body mass aids thermoregulation.
Physical Characteristics
The Yeti stands between 7 to 10 feet tall, with an extremely robust frame and thick fur ranging from white to gray, providing camouflage against snow-covered landscapes. Its double-layered coat is similar to that of Tibetan blue bears, consisting of dense underfur beneath long, coarse guard hairs. Unlike orangutans, which have shorter limbs for climbing, the Yeti’s longer legs allow it optimized bipedal movement across snow. Large plantigrade feet distribute weight evenly to prevent sinking, akin to adaptations in snowshoe hares and lynxes.
Additionally, it possesses enlarged nasal passages, increasing oxygen intake at high altitudes, and hemoglobin adaptations similar to Tibetan humans, allowing for efficient blood oxygen transport in lower atmospheric pressure.
Diet and Behavior
The Yeti is a facultative omnivore, consuming lichen, roots, winter berries, and opportunistic protein sources such as carrion or small mammals. It even exhibits seasonal hibernation behaviors, reducing metabolic activity during extreme Himalayan winters. Unlike Sasquatch, which prefers dense forests, the Yeti thrives in high-altitude rocky terrain, relying on stealth and environmental awareness to avoid predators such as snow leopards.
Its territorial behavior includes vocalizations such as low-frequency growls, rumbling infrasound, and rhythmic rock-knocking, similar to known primate communication methods. Unlike fully social great apes, the Yeti exhibits semi-solitary behavior, maintaining small familial units scattered across vast territories.
Orang Pendek (Minopongo sumatranus)
Evolutionary Origins
Orang Pendek (Minopongo sumatranus), meaning “short person” in Indonesian, is a species of dwarf pongine. Unlike its gigantopithecine relatives, Orang Pendek represents a miniaturized adaptation to dense, lowland rainforests. This species evolved from early Pongo ancestors, adapting for ground-level agility and terrestrial foraging, distinguishing it from modern arboreal orangutans.
Its small stature—between 3 to 5 feet tall—reduces metabolic demands, allowing efficient survival in resource-scarce environments. Theories suggest Orang Pendek may exhibit convergent traits with extinct hominin species like Homo floresiensis, another small-bodied primate that adapted for tropical island survival.
Physical Characteristics
Orang Pendek is covered in short, coarse reddish-brown fur, closely resembling the coat of modern orangutans. Unlike its arboreal relatives, it exhibits strong, compact limb musculature, suited for rapid movement through jungle undergrowth. Its plantigrade walking posture allows for stealth and efficiency in navigating dense foliage. Additionally, its hands and feet remain highly dexterous, enabling the use of tools for foraging.
Compared to Sasquatch and Yeti, Orang Pendek has smaller, rounded molars, indicative of a fruit-heavy diet, supplemented with roots, insects, and small vertebrates. Its jaw structure suggests powerful bite force, allowing it to process hard nuts and fibrous plants.
Behavior and Ecology
Orang Pendek exhibits solitary and small-group behavior, mirroring the reclusive nature of orangutans. Unlike the Yeti or Sasquatch, which thrive in colder regions, Orang Pendek is strictly tropical, relying on dense rainforest cover for concealment. It exhibits intelligent foraging strategies, such as using rocks or sticks to extract insects, resembling rudimentary tool use seen in wild orangutans.
Its cryptic nature and alleged ability to mimic forest sounds may serve as defense mechanisms against predators such as clouded leopards and sun bears. While some legends describe Orang Pendek as a near-human entity, its placement in Ponginae suggests it is a specialized primate rather than a hominin-relative.
Yeren (Gigantopithecus sinensis)
Evolutionary Origins
The Yeren (Gigantopithecus sinensis), or "Wild Man" of China, is an offshoot of G. blacki that survived in the dense subtropical forests of central and southern China. Unlike Sasquatch and Yeti, the Yeren exhibits arboreal adaptations, suggesting it retained some tree-climbing capabilities while incorporating more terrestrial behaviors over time. It likely diverged from Gigantopithecus populations that migrated eastward, evolving traits suited for warmer, humid environments.
Physical Characteristics
The Yeren stands between 6 to 9 feet tall, with reddish or dark brown fur, reflecting similarities to modern orangutans (Pongo spp.). Unlike fully terrestrial primates, Yeren retains curved fingers and powerful gripping strength, allowing it to navigate canopies or scale rock faces when necessary. Its limb proportions suggest semi-bipedal locomotion, switching between upright walking and quadrupedal movement depending on terrain.
Its facial structure exhibits pronounced brow ridges, deep-set eyes, and a sloping forehead, similar to fossil evidence of Gigantopithecus. Unlike Sasquatch, which thrives in temperate forests, Yeren's lighter skeletal frame allows for greater agility in thick jungle environments.
Diet and Behavior
Yeren is a frugivorous omnivore, consuming fruit, nuts, small vertebrates, and honey. Reports suggest tool-using behaviors, such as using rocks to crack nuts or sticks to extract insects, indicating primitive problem-solving abilities. Unlike Sasquatch, which may exhibit nocturnal habits, Yeren is diurnal, maintaining activity during daylight hours while avoiding dense human settlements.
Yeren is territorial yet passive, avoiding direct confrontation and relying on stealth and strategic retreat patterns. Vocalizations include low growls, hoots, and wood-knocking, similar to observed orangutan behavior.
Almas (Australopongo caucasicus)
Evolutionary Origins
The Almas (Australopongo caucasicus), reported in Central Asia and the Caucasus region, is a cold-adapted pongine that evolved in high-altitude, temperate regions. Compared to its relatives, Almas exhibits shorter fur, reduced body size, and enhanced endurance suited for mountainous terrain. Its lineage may trace back to ancient hominid-like pongines that migrated westward from Southeast Asia, adapting to a mixed-woodland and grassland ecosystem.
Physical Characteristics
Almas is shorter than Yeti or Sasquatch, standing between 5 to 7 feet tall, with stocky, muscular proportions optimized for climbing and navigating steep environments. Unlike the taller Gigantopithecus descendants, Almas has broad feet and shorter limbs, indicating enhanced power and stability over agility.
Its facial structure is closer to orangutans, retaining a sloping forehead and large jaw structure, but exhibiting forward-set eyes, implying enhanced depth perception for tracking movement in open terrain. Fur coloration ranges from grayish-brown to tawny, blending with rocky landscapes.
Diet and Behavior
Almas is a foraging omnivore, subsisting on roots, fungi, tubers, insects, and occasional protein sources. Unlike the tree-dependent Yeren, Almas exhibit burrowing behaviors, utilizing caves or rock crevices for shelter. The wide territorial range of Almas suggests a nomadic lifestyle, migrating seasonally in response to food availability.
Reports suggest rudimentary communication, including soft vocalizations, rock placements, and gestural behaviors, potentially resembling early hominid communication styles.
Yowie (Gigantopithecus australis)
Evolutionary Origins
The Yowie (Gigantopithecus australis), associated with Australia, represents a unique pongine adaptation to arid environments. Unlike its forest-dwelling relatives, the Yowie evolved traits suited for survival in savanna, scrubland, and eucalyptus forests, adapting kangaroo-like movement efficiency to cover large distances.
Fossil evidence suggests that Gigantopithecus never reached Australia, but land bridge migration during prehistoric climate shifts could have introduced proto-pongine species, which then adapted to Australia’s harsh and unpredictable climate.
Physical Characteristics
The Yowie stands between 6 to 10 feet tall, with dark brown or black fur, similar to marsupial megafauna such as wombats or koalas. Compared to Sasquatch, Yowie exhibits leaner muscle structure, longer limbs, and reduced bulk, allowing it to move more efficiently across open terrain.
Unlike other pongines, the Yowie’s foot structure resembles kangaroo-like digitigrade adaptation, allowing for long-distance travel and rapid acceleration. Additionally, its facial morphology exhibits elongated jaw structures, enabling efficient water conservation and adaptation to drought conditions.
Diet and Behavior
The Yowie is a dry-climate omnivore, consuming roots, eucalyptus leaves, insects, and carrion. Unlike Sasquatch, which maintains cold-weather adaptations, Yowie developed heat-regulating physiological features, including sparse fur density and sweat gland adaptations similar to desert-adapted mammals.
Reports suggest intelligent problem-solving, with terrain memory, trail-marking behaviors, and complex evasive tactics when encountering threats. Unlike territorial Sasquatch, Yowie exhibits wide-range nomadism, constantly shifting its habitat in response to seasonal changes.

Log 6: Fort Dorn
Fort Dorn:
06:00 hrs
Intensive Environment Training Room
Floor -6
Four imperial fists have gone currently for 5 hours planking by their arms and feet in a room that has been designed to reach temperatures of 200° Fahrenheit. Grilled for what had occurred last night.
"So.....you four think you can just sneak out..... pretend to be not just civilians.... MORTAL civilians.", the current chaplain, Aldercon, steadily paced in his armor. "So. Did you boys have a nice drink? In which would be at this point.... quite frankly the biggest waste of your Oolitic kidney's FUCKING TIME.", leans down to Bilhard's face.
Bilhard was doing relatively good, sweating liters of his sweat per second, "SORRY SIR!". His voices shouted.
Raises up, takes a step to Urtus. "You are going to be here just as long as Bilhard is. Do you understand me?".
Urtus was neck and neck to Bilhard. By this point he's matching Bilhard on everything including sweating. "SIR YES SIR!"
"I CAN'T HEAR BOY! THE HEAT MELTED MY FUCKING AUDITORY MODULE AID!", the chaplain shouted.
"SIR YES SIR!", Urtus responded, his voice would have reverberated throughout the room if it weren't for the heating system.
The chaplain moved on to Cahrilo. Leaned right into his face. "....what about you lover boy. FUCKING SATISFIED WITH YOUR SEXUAL SHENANIGANS?!?!".
Cahrilo, doing more than sweating his fluids right out, red in the face trying to keep focus on his plank. Unlike the rest of his brothers, he hadn't trained like this for a while. He also didn't want to answer the loaded question, which ever answer he gave, he would lose for sure. "Ugh"
"SHUT THE FUCK UP YOUVE BORED ME!", by this point the heating room has now gotten on the chaplain's last nerve. He paces to Moors.
".....you're here..... because you stole that United States issued assault tank from that base up in Washington....and decided to modify it.... with spinning rims.", he concluded with a terribly hidden grin.
"Those weakling, yellow bellied welps at that over polished white outhouse didn't deserve 'Edna'.", with absolutely no wasted breath, Moors had just admitted to stealing government property.
This resulted in the other three bursting into uncontrollably laughter but landing in their own boiling sweat puddles.
The chaplain signal's the operator outside of the enhanced two way mirror to shut off the heater. All right that's enough for today, and Moors you're writing a double report for moral misconduct of theft of a military vehicle."
Moors got up, "worth it.", massaging his forearms.
"Hit the showers! You all smell like the nicest part of Nurgle!", Aldercon was done punishing the four marines for the time being. He enters into a small transition chamber where a blue arousal spray coats him. His face scrunches up and he starts spitting. "BLAH! WHY DOES THE DISINFECTANT TASTE LIKE BLACK BARRIES?!? SHA'KAL!", he calls out to the facilities only Salamander apothecary marine.
On the intercom, Sha'kal man's the controls, "It's a new edible formula sir! It's to prevent the others from consuming the original disinfectant.", he has always had everyone's well being in mind. Making sure that everyone, man, marine, animal or vegetable receives the best and safest care.
"WHOS THE NUMBNUTS THATS BEEN LICKING THEMSELVES CLEAN OF DISINFECTANT?!?", he angrily wipes his eyes and mouth. "Also why black barries?! I hate black barries!".
Sha'kal got up from his chair to give Aldercon a towel, "well it was the flavor that won the facility wide voting."
"oh the cruel beauty of democracy.... status report of the morning.", he shakes his head wiping off the fruity liquid.
Taking out a clip board, "well, reserves are well stocked for the month, the parameters of the fort have once again been triple checked and fortifed-"
"Ah good. Just the way I like it. Continue." A smile creeps up Aldercon's face ear to ear, chuffed to hear that so far everything is good.
As he and Aldercon walk through the expansive underground halls containing the day's reports, all forms of activity is occuring. Construction and excavations on the expanding territory of the Imperial Fists continues in full speed. Several Marines keep the place running in full operational standards to a Space Hulk on a much smaller scale.
"-and how is the ugh....what was that project that Ihorn was doing?", Aldercon reluctantly asked.
Sha'kal checked the notes he made in the back of one of the documents, "Oh yes....um the trainable bears. So biological augmentations on the bears have been successful. They've fully adapted to the nutrition supplements and seem to have adopted rather preferable behaviors.", the two of them walk to an enormous elevator shaft fit and strong enough to carry up to several tons worth of equipment.
After a few minutes of more briefing, they finally reach the surface level of the fort. Cleverly disguised as an abandoned farmhouse, the two Astartes march to the tattered barn, where most of the animals the Imperial Fists use for their own purposes.
"Ihorn! How are the bears doing?", he shouts to the shirtless marine.
Ihorn was originally a member of a company of Crimson fists stationed in Cadia for a temporary few decades, than was sent to a death planet. Now is perfectly content with animal training, he's the proud trainer of a team of eight, modified grizzly bears. "Ohoho, good morning Chaplain! Splendidly, look! Petunia is ready to have a litter again!", he proudly shows a gigantic grizzly bear, with a modified power pack permanently attached to the bear's back, tubes running along side her spine, ribs and head.
This was a bear made for the Imperium.
The bear stood up to intimidate the chaplain and Sha'kal. She had a furless bare belly, a side effect of the modifications made to her, slightly larger than normal due to the unnatural pregnancy. She let a low defensive growl.
"now now my sweet girl, you relax and concentrate on the cubs. Come on love.", Ihron takes a small clacker, clicks it a few times, snapping the bear back to its docile self.
Ihorn gives her an apple as a treat, giving her a stead pat in the back, "the girls always need to be spoiled. They perform better and are happier to do so.".
Impressed by the animal mastery Ihron has accomplished, Aldercon now wonders about something else, "The females? Why not the males?".
Giving a pensive thought, "well... I tried the males .....the females would kill and eat them", scratches Petunia behind the ears. "Shame really, I would like to see one fully grown.".
Sha'kal was standing in front of Aldercon in order to protect him from the bear, even if he was wearing an enlarged shirt with combat trousers. "Couldn't have you just, I don't know....not brutality alter this... innocent creature, it is in pain?", he looked at the unsightly handy work of one of the only members of the Adeptus mechanicus the fort had....a skitarii they named "Gibs".
"nonsense, I can tell she's pretty content. I've studied these lovely beasts for decades and she's just as content as a regular bear in captivity. Besides, if ever hear that measley little cord rat hurt any of my animals....I'll squish whatever is left of him.", he checks the power pack to see if it causing any discomfort.
Aldercon looks around at the other animals Ihron keeps in the barn, a few cows, some chickens specifically taken from an industrial farm several miles away and a few emotional support animals like sheep and domestic pigs. "Hmm. I see you're doing a good job. Primarch would be proud of your compassion for these beasts.", he gives him a firm handshake. He can't help but look back at the bear and attempt to intimidate her one last time.
She looked rather bored, until she was able to manipulate the muscles in her snout into a creepy, unnatural grin.
"oH sweet mother of-", he almost grabs his chest.
Ihorn and Sha'kal both laugh, "GOOD GIRL PETUNIA!", he gives her a hug for her little stunt.
Petunia gives a victorious roar, and gives Ihron a lick to the face.
As he continued to giggle, Sha'kal turned to see an unhumored Aldercon. "Oh my bad sir. We were planning that prank for weeks."
With a stern nod of head, "oh brother. Come on, let's continue the briefing".
The both of them leave the and head to the "farm house", as the two squeeze in through the threshold, a covert operation of digital surveillance is under way. As the two marine walk through, members of different chapters contribute to the complex communications system that has been spying the United States and several other countries decades before the FBI or the CIA.
"anything?", Aldercon quietly asked one member of the Ultramarines surveying the movement of the stock exchanges, monetary spending and shockingly enough the cash flow of several other developed nations on a set of 8 monitors. Hyperfocused, the marine just wags his finger 'no'. "Good work", he gives the marine a pat the back.
Walking over to an empty desk, he looks at the neatly kept but rather personalized workspace of the only confirmed Raven Guard in the country.
Letting out a deep disappointed sigh, "where is he?", he turns to see several members stop and look at the desk. Some of them silently nodding or gesturing uncertainty. "Has anyone here seen Wick?".
Giving a clarify cough, "um I believe he went 'to the field ', at least that's how he worded it to me.".
Aldercon is no stranger to rebellious behavior. When he first appeared on Earth around a hundred and twenty years ago, he had at several points been married, has had children and watched them grow up throughout their stages of life. He is certain this is one of those times, however a human teenage son is one thing, a fully grown adult Astartes fresh from his time as a neophyte is a completely different matter of frustration. "I see.....well ....did he keep his tracking system on?"
One of the fist's working on GPS tracking searches for Wick's location. "Ah yes, he is currently in Nevada."
He takes a double take, "WHAT?!"
The fist looks at the data on Wick's location. "Hmm...he's on the move but he is in government airspace."
Cupping his hands to his temples, massaging away the pent up frustrations he had just built up. "Can things get ANY more complicated?"
"3 Boogies at 12 o'clock sir. Heading to the north side of the wall.", one of the other Marines announces.
"oh goodie....the sons of Russ.... just in for a visit.", he isn't much better hearing this.
"wait they have a civilian with them", suddenly he feels the room's tone change from tense to dangerous.
Seething with rage, one rule Aldercon has been strict on enforcing is the restricted access of the Fort to moral humans. ".....Ssssssssteeeennnnnnnnnn......". He leaves fuming.
"oh dear, Aldercon please calm down!", Sha'kal runs after the chaplain in hopes he doesn't kill anyone on the way to the wall.
The room stood quite, with nothing but the beeps and pings of the monitors. All of them had gone right back to work.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the trees past the four us, with the wind on my face and the careful dodging of branches, it felt like I was flying. I couldn't believe this was happening. Not only the cabin, but a pack of mysterious space soldiers? Forget about the inheritance money, this beats that any day!
However, I should be a little more careful with being caught up in this, I barely know these men. For all I know they could be making it up ...the more I think about it, the more I wonder why all this? Was this something I genuinely deserved? What if something else happens?
The trio stop, Sten smells the air, trying to pick up a sent. "this way.", he points his body to the direction of the mountain range nearby. As the pack continues, I have a sudden nagging feeling crawl up my spine.
"wait, you guys said this was a fort right?", I ask loudly as the brushing of leaves slightly drowns my voice out.
Fjord, practically prancing in the brush, "yes lass! It's an Imperial Fist fort! Best in the business and probably filled to the brim with traps! It's gonin to be fun!".
"Ay, are you daft!? The girl is with us, and she doesn't have any armor! Unless she's some covert Battle Sister I say we be careful.", As Toke dodged a branch, he tossed one on to what looked like a safe clearing but was actually a huge automatic trap.
I began to worry, I didn't care if these guys were heavily armored or if I didn't know them, I just didn't want them getting hurt.
"tis all right Lorey, we will keep you safe. I won't let any harm come to you.", I could feel Sten's grip adjusting to secure me. The fact he carried me here was a feat in it's own.
Their pace slowed down and soon we reached a concrete wall. This was bigger than anything current military fencing, it just looked like a thick, eerie wall. I could see graffiti and posters scattered throughout. "What the....who...built this?", I could imagine the workforce that took the time to do it.
"well, it looks we're going up!", Toke had pressed a few buttons on his arms, switching on a set of claws on his gauntlets.
Sten placed me down gently to do the same, "my dear, you will have to climb up onto my back, I have switched off the power pack so the exhaust ports do not burn you.".
I it was only now I noticed the jetpack on his back, it looked like it had little let engines on it, I climbed up and held tight. "Well, ugh...you guys are going to climb the wall, shouldn't you guys have a rope or something?".
Fjord chuckled a little, "no lass, we can handle this little obstacle all on our own.", enabling his own set of claws, the three had made a running start to the Wall's surface. All ready clearing 10 feet up the concrete barrier.
Suddenly, someone shouts from the other side.
"HAULT! PASSWORD!", the voice commanded.
No one knew what to say or do.....I had begun to worry.
"YOUR MOTHER!", unsurprisingly Fjord had the perfect response.
The sound of scuffling metal plating quickly making it's way to the top, loud exacerbated huffing and a yellow helmet peaking furiously from the top.
"PASSWORD REJECTED!", the yellow armored man then pointed a shockingly large gun at Fjord. The second the trigger was fired, that same horrifying blast erupted from the barrel like a high-speed rocket. Nearly hitting Fjord.
Dodging with unnatural grace and speed, Fjord quickly climbed up before and tackled the guard, both falling back behind the wall.
Judging from the time it took to hear a THUD, they may have fell rough 25 feet down.
I was still recovering from the shots fired, I turn to see a crater on the side of the wall where Fjord had dodged what I assumed was a missile. "FJORD! Oh crap is he ok?!".
Toke and Sten quicken their pace up the wall.
"Do not worry about him, the fall will knock some sense in him.", Toke clawed at the concrete.
As soon as the three have reached the top of the wall, we were met with several of them pointing guns at our direction....and one big furious looking guy with greyed hair was staring daggers at us.
"STEN! YOU TAKE ONE MORE STEP WITH THAT MORTAL CIVILIAN HERE AND I WILL PUT YOUR IDIOT BROTHER DOWN!", he points to Fjord pinned down to the ground by two other Marines, trying to bite their hands.
Sten and Toke had locked it up.
"You know just as well as I do that killing another Astartes is not deeply frowned upon, and in our current circumstance....an act of heresy on its own!", Sten stood his ground, but I can tell he was trying to cooperate.
I was starting to feel guilty for being in this mess, "Sten what's going on?".
"Do not fret, Aldercon is just a little more cautious than the rest of us ....", he tried to assure me, however I've been in enough situations to know that stare of his had a history.
Could u do a Viltrumite abilities pack? Like from the show Invincible (if u haven’t watched it PLEASE do it’s so good)
Thanks for sending and ask and for the suggestion, i hope this helps ❤️
Viltrumite abilities
Enhanced physiology - Viltrumites are a race of highly advanced beings with extremely potent and well-developed genetics.
Decelerated aging - The older Viltrumites become, the slower they age. This allows them to have an incredibly long lifespan, able to live for thousands of years.
Flight - Viltrumites can levitate themselves in the air and propel themselves in any direction they desire, able to alter their trajectory mid-flight, letting them maneuver seamlessly through various environments.
Nigh-invulnerability - Viltrumites can withstand a wide range of attacks without sustaining any significant harm. They can walk away unscathed from explosions, bullets, and even powerful energy-based assaults.
Reactive adaptation - Viltrumites grow stronger and tougher over time. Their strength, speed, and durability increase as they face challenges or heal from injuries. They also learn from their fights, improving their skills and strategies with each battle.
Regenerative healing - Viltrumite bodies can recover from injuries in a day if not mere minutes.
Superhuman senses - Viltrumites possess an exceptional auditory perception surpassing human capabilities, allowing them to discern sounds emanating from considerable distances and selectively drown out specific noises.
Adaptability in diet - They can consume a wide range of substances considered food, showcasing a highly adaptable digestive system.
Molecular manipulation - Viltrumites may possess the ability to manipulate matter at a molecular level (though this is less documented)
Enchanted speed, stamina, strength and lung capacity
Idk if i did the photos right
