College started
I had to wake up at 6:30 for the first time in like 2 months and dug up my blazer jacket that I bought for prom and paired it with a white summer shirt, a yellow hoodie, light grey jeans and a tie I nicked from my dad and had to watch a youtube video just to figure out how to tie it. I don't know why the blazer looks grey and crumpled in the photo, in real life it's turquoise and has less noticeable creases in it. Mum now sees what I mean when I say that hoodies, ties and blazers go well together. God it got hot while walking though but it was worth it in the name of style.

I also had a packed lunch for the first time as keyboard lessons were more expensive due to them being twice as long so buying hot lunches was chucked out of the budget. I made a cheese bagel sandwich with mozzarella slices and packed it in a bag with a little pancake, 4 crackers, a little brownie and a banana that I didn't eat because it had been waiting for so long that it was going brown. I didn't think about how all the food would sit so everything that wasn't in the sandwich bag (the sandwich) had a faint taste of banana. I also bought a packet of crisps at the college's cafe as I was still a bit hungry afterwards so maybe I should figure that out.
I walked 20 minutes and across a roundabout to reach my new bus stop and a new bus came every 15 minutes so I didn't bother mesmerising the timetable. Luckily I live quite close so the journey only took like 35 minutes and I was an hour early and didn't know what to do. Very few students were there and I was mostly looking for the library so I could vibe until I had A-Level Music. After a google search I found the building but turns out it's being moved to some other building (there's like 8 buildings across 2 sides of a road and it resembles a uni campus) so I just drew in the study centre by myself for about half an hour. Someone I knew (kinda) from my old school came up to me to say hello. I walked over to the building with music in but ended up a couple minutes late as I was washing my hands when the bell went off and I though "oh it's the warning bell" when no, no it wasn't. The teacher didn't seem to care considering it's the first day.
The lessons are so much longer here. So long that in the middle there was a 15 minute break. I didn't really have anywhere better to be so I remained in the classroom drawing. There seems to be a lot of emphasis on performance but I kinda suck at preforming. At least A-Level also has composition. I had to leave in the last half hour though to go to an orthodontist appointment and I left when they were talking about intervals and intervals are cool and now I have to do catch up work just because my teeth jewellery needed tightening.
I ate my lunch at a table all by myself in the student commons room and I don't know if all the groups already knew each other or if this was a case of extroverts having good social skills, but almost everyone was sitting in a group. One of the teachers talked to me when I was eating my bagel. Nothing deep just general new school small talk. He said I'll find new friends due to the way classes are structured around A-levels, which you choose yourself so there's a common interest, but tbh I'm probably just going to be known as that weird quiet kid that knows way too much on video game consoles. I don't mind not having any friends my entire time there, but when you've been stuck in an all girls private school since you were a toddler to now, it shelters you and I want to not be that as I'll have one hell of a shock once I enter the real world and/or act like a snob unintentionally. Eh, whatever. I bought the aforementioned crisps in beef flavoured and it was mostly air dammit. I then did my music homework in one of the practice rooms so I could test the musical dictation on the piano. I then just started playing whatever and some girl hovered around my door so I let her in and apparently she could hear me blasting my music because I have no dynamic control on a piano and she said that she really liked it. Then my music teacher appeared and I said I was doing my homework, and then they both left. Someone was playing some ballad piano song (I assume it's the girl as it sounds like it's coming from the other room) which would occasionally change to fur elise. Then I still had some time left but I was bored so after asking a history teacher for directions on where the mac lab is, I went into Music Technology like 10 minutes early and was just fiddling with the mac until everyone else came in. (Music tech is a BTEC which is a different exam board and is more DAW stuff while Music A-Level is performance and theory. I was supposed to be doing Computer Science but I fucked up my exam because OCR sucks the devil's ass while marking so I didn't have the qualifications so the careers people suggested music tech as the 3rd subject and oh god I'm so thankful as I'm certain my college uses OCR for it's A Levels and I would rip my wrists open and develop a caffeine addiction if I had to deal with OCR again).
The actual lesson was interesting but I was the only one putting my hand up most of the time and also I've already used a DAW before (LMMS) so I picked up on how to use Logic Pro quicker than the others (I think, idk I was sitting by myself on an empty row) but Logic Pro has cool sounds that I want in a soundfont, but is full of little things that makes it a bit annoying. And mac. Mac OS is annoying. I wasn't really following the instructions and was mostly doing my own thing in Logic Pro. Use this plugin to automatically augment a bassline? Nah I'm going to keep pressing keys with this acoustic bass sound until I get a cool bassline. I stayed for half an hour afterwards to finish the song as it was cool and this is what I did:
There was also theory stuff too. In groups we had to type out a list of places you find music and I just ignored the people in my group and wrote my own list. Also music kept randomly playing and the teacher couldn't figure out where it was coming from so I listed "the poltergeist from the mac lab" as one place music comes from. After that I took the bus home and now I'm going to watch the 2nd Deadpool film because I'm tired and don't feel like doing anything but sit in my chair and morph into it.

Heres a Demon Slayer modern Au I came up with cuz I can.
Warnings, mentions of r*pe, domestic abuse and character death. Only short mentions of it, tho!
They are all college students, a level students. Cuz I'm British and i dont understand America.
College students:
Giyuu - 18 - A level computer science, A level physics, A level chemistry.
Sanemi - 18 - A level maths, A level physics, A level biology.
Shinobu - 17 - A level health and social, A level chemistry, A level biology.
Obanai - 18 - A level English Lit, A level English language, A level physics.
Mitsuri - 17 - Art level 3 btec.
Kyojuro - 17 - A level history, A level geography, A level business.
Tengen - 18 - A level preforming arts, A level art, A level music.
Gyomei - 18 - A level religious studies, A level Sociology, A level Psychology.
High-school students:
Zenitsu - 16 - Year 11.
Genya - 16 - Year 11.
Aoi - 16 - Year 11.
Tanjiro - 15 - Year 10.
Inosuke - 15 - Year 10.
Kanao - 15 - Year 10.
Muichiro - 14 - Year 9.
Nezuko - 14 - Year 9.
Senjuro - 14 - Year 9.
Facts:
Giyuu babysits Muichiro because Tsutako was Muichiro's nurse when he was in the hospital.
Kanae is a therapist. Tsutako is a nurse.
The Kamado family's bakery is right next to the Tomioka household.
Obanai and Shinobu live in the same apartment building.
Kanae and Tsutako are dating. They met at the hospital Tsutako works at.
Kanae is Inosuke's mum's therapist.
Shinobu has babysat Inosuke on multiple occasions before.
Tanjiro and Kanao are dating.
Mitsuri and Obanai are dating, and Obanai sometimes stays around hers during holidays.
Aoi has a crush on Tanjiro.
Zenitsu doesn't hold any romantic feelings for Nezuko.
Shinobu and Giyuu are very close.
Rengoku's family used to babysit Mitsuri and her siblings, but ever since Kyojuros mum died the families haven't interacted outside of Kyojuro and Mitsuri.
Mitsuri can't drive so Obanai drives her around.
Family:
Giyuu lives with his sister since their parents died when he was younge due to an illness.
Sanemi and Genya live with all their siblings and their mum. Their dad is in prison for domestic violence.
Shinobu lives in her older sisters apartment since their parents passed away when she was only 12.
Obanai lives with Kyojuro in the same apartment building as Shinobu. He was born and raised in a cult that he fortunately escaped from, and was adopted by the Rengoku's.
Mitsuri lives happily with her parents.
Kyojuro lives with Obanai, he used to live with his acholic dad and younger brother but left because his dad was getting worse. His younger brother stays with him during the weekends.
Tengen has an apartment with his three girlfriends. He doesn't want to live at home since his family is a military family and don't agree with his educational choices. His girlfriends also come from a military past. But all four of them have put it past them now to live normally.
Gyomei lives on his own, but does babysitting after school and on the weekends. He babysits Sanemi's siblings often.
Muichiro lives with his parents. Unfortunately when he was 10 him and
Yuichiro got into a terrible car accident. Where in the heat of the moment Yuichiro leapt across his seat to shield his brother. Muichiro got a serious head injury and can't remember anything.
Tanjiro and Nezuko live with their family and own a bakery.
Zenitsu lives with his granfather and his adoptive brother. Although they don't get along well.
Kanao was recently adopted by Kanae and Shinobu. She was trafficked and abused by many people before ending up in an orphanage, however the orphanage didn't know how to deal with her trauma so they contacted a known therapist, Kanae, who decided to adopt Kanao.
Aoi lives in the orphanage Kanao was sent to. She works part-time for Kanae.
Inosuke lives with his mother. His father (not douma) is in prison for r*pe of a minor (Inosukes mum). Inosukes mum gave birth to Inosuke when she was only 17. (WHICH IS LIKE CANNON??)
Other facts about school.
Shinobu, Giyuu, Mitsuri, Obanai, Rengoku and Sanemi all went to the same high School that the younger kids go to.
Tengen and Gyomei went to separate schools.
Sanemi had a small crush on Kanae during his high school years.
Giyuu and Shinobu shortly dated before finding out they were both gay. However, they continued to play date because they didn't want to come out.
Rengoku set Obanai and Mitsuri up when they were in year 10. They've been datingg ever since.
Sanemi and Obanai used to get detention quite often since they misbehaved. Giyuu also got detention but because he skipped many lessons. Thos caused Obanai and Sanemi to dislike him and think that he didn't value his education and must have thought he was better then it. Giyuu on the other hand just didn't enjoy sitting in the classrooms due to how anxious it made him, and would do his work on his own somewhere else.
Giyuu didn't have many friends as he kept to himself and skipped many lessons.
Shinobu and Mitsuri became good friends in year 9, Shinobu had a little crush on her but quickly got over it when Mitsuri and Obanai started dating.
In Tengens school, no one believed him when he said he had three girlfriends because they each went to different schools. That was until he took all three of them to his prom. It was pretty flashy.
A picture diagram to show how the friend group came to be and how they all are linked.

Ships (maybe):
Sanemi X Giyuu (but it's like subtleish)
Tengen X Suma X Hinatsuru X Makio
Mitsuri X Obanai
Tanjiro X Kanao
Kanae X Tsutako

which a levels i think characters from doctor who would do !!
martha jones: biology, chemistry, mathematics

this is pretty standard considering she’s a doctor, and you have to do biology and chemistry to apply to majority of medical schools in the UK. martha’s practical and i think she’d know that doing maths also boosts her chances!!! she’d also be a prefect/student councillor
the tenth doctor: physics, mathematics, biology and philosophy

here biology is interchangeable with computer science, but i think he would be really insufferable about doing four a levels and brag about it any chance that he’d get. he’d also complain about engineering only being a BTEC, but refuse to do it because it’s not as prestigious. the whole science department despises him because he does his projects on the most unconventional topics & he’d also do an EPQ…just because! philosophy is there not only because he likes it, but because he wants to show people he’s versatile. he has the best grade point average yet somehow is never in school
rose tyler: level 2 health and social care, english literature

i can’t remember if rose didn’t go to sixth form/college at all or she dropped out, but i think she would do health and social care because it’s more hands on in terms of a qualification, and she wants to help people more than anything. english literature, because i feel she’d love poetry & the other texts they get to read and analyse. also interchangeable with english language because i think she’d really like creative writing!!
#i needed somewhere to put this ive been thinking about this for years#i will do a part 2#ten would be the most annoying person in the whole of post 16#doctor who#martha jones#tenth doctor#rose tyler#freema agyeman#david tennant#billie piper

Good luck.on your GCSEs fr, I hope you don't burn out like I did (I only burnt out because I would've been too powerful otherwise, my Yr 10 predicted was all 8/9s and a 4 in computer science)
I adore practical work, and yes I'm in college at the moment (I finish soon tho) I do BTEC lvl 3 applied Biomedical sciences but the coursework is so strict and you get a week to write ~5000 words (no word limit but that's average) and I go insane trying to write how something works
High key kinda wish I did A levels but I'm not built for exams and my grades weren't good enough to do the A levels I wanted
But I'm set to go to uni to study life sciences (got all 5 offers and the whole nine yards) in October
See growing older for me didn't mean I realised my interests where childish, no, I discovered that that all of my interests ARE FROM THE SAME PERIOD IN TIME IN HISTORY

I was doing college applications today and a sixth form had "Esports" as a BTEC (lamer A-level). Something I noticed about the photos of the room though, is that they all game on plastic chairs. If you're going to be playing rocket league for an hour then you wouldn't want to be sitting on these:

I hope the computers for the computer science students are good though, if they can afford gaming PCs then they can afford PCs with ajustible monitor stands. Then again, I didn't see a single strip of rainbow LED lights in those esports pictures...

WOW an A-Level in Computer Science AND a BTEC in Game Design?! Very very impressive! Bravo!!
Codetober 3/31

Today I haven't really been doing any programming, but I've been in lectures all day so don't blame me. The first lecture was about what I want to do for my final year project and how the module is running and the second was multiplayer level design where they discussed the module and then we played TF2 for an hour then discussed the level design?
For that one we are going to be using hammer to create a TF2 level. Which is... great because I don't play multiplayer games, and definitely not shooters, and definitely not TF2. but level design is interesting and I watched my friend play and picked out stuff about the level to think about (some of the notes are in the image above) so hopefully it goes well!
How long have you been programming for?
I started programming in my final year of high school, so 5 years ago when I did python. That being said, I don't see that experience particularly as me being any good at it. I've been relatively good at algorithm work since I started, most of high school I worked in pseudocode rather than ever actually programming.
When I was in sixth form (16-18) I programmed in python and created one piece of flashcard software but I still don't feel like I was using my programming. I could program, I could solve problems in very self contained ways, I didnt have the ability to make something put together very well.
When I started university is when I think I really started programming, it's the point where if someone asked me if I could program I would say yes. So I've been programming for 5.5 years, but it's only in the past 2 I would really say I have.

I live in the US and ever since I read angus thongs and perfect snogging in middle school I’ve wanted to understand how British school works. I think we can exchange some information here 🤣 ok so in the US it’s like this: every year you’re in a “grade”, and the school year starts in late August or early September and ends in late May or early June, with a two week break around Christmas that they try to pretend is secular. The first “grade” is “Kindergarten” which you typically start at age 5, so usually everyone is having the same birthday over the course of the school year, but not everyone’s birthday falls just so, and some people skip or repeat grades. After Kindergarten the grades go up like normal i.e. “first grade” “second grade” etc. and the grades are divided up into “schools”. There’s usually elementary (K-5), middle (6-8), and high (9-12) school, but a lot of places alter the delineations or add more. For example, I had intermediate school (5-6), middle school (7-8), junior high (9-10), and high school (11-12) but that’s a bit ridiculous. Then once you graduate 12th grade, you get your high school diploma, and you can go to what we call college at that point, which is “higher education”. There are requirements to “get in” to college, and it costs money to attend. You usually have to take some racist tests and get good scores and send your scores off with applications to colleges and pray that you get accepted by a college that doesn’t cost a million dollars an hour. You are required by law to go to grade school (K-12) but if you drop out you can take a test called the GED to prove you Know Enough and it’s the equivalent of a high school diploma but you don’t have to suffer in actual high school. So how does British school work? I’m thrilled to find out wtf gcse means 🤩 lmao <3
ohhhhh my god ok yes !! lets exchange!!this makes so much sense but i still have so many questions skdjsk i have 2 american cousins so i feel like i should know way more than i do😭😭.
so with the classes you take, how does that work do you just get to choose as many as you want or do you have required classes? and what is an AP class, like is it more advanced? and do ppl take them to help with college applications or smthn? also (sorry im just so curious😭) what is a gpa? like... i have never understood how that works or why its needed lmao.
ok so with english schools we have 'years' but you start at age 4 in reception in primary school. After reception you start year 1, 2 etc and primary school is reception to year 6 (age 4-11). Then in year 6 (age 11) you take these exams called SATs (for maths, english comprehension and english grammar/spelling) which are to help determine your grade targets once you start secondary school, but also if you apply to private secondary schools or even some public schools getting good SATs results helps you get in.
So then secondary school is age 11 to 16 or 18 (depending lmao its a bit complicated). At 16 you do GCSE's which are exams to help you get into sixth form or college (not equivalent to college in the US). At 14 you can choose the subjects you want to take for GCSE's which again is based on your targets. So for example everyone has to take english, maths and at least one science but i had quite high targets so had to follow the baccalaureate where i was required to take all three sciences, a language and either geography or history but then could also choose 2 others (i took food technology and computer science😁). Then you study just those subjects for the next two years, with the exception of P.E. and R.E (religious education🙄) which everyone has to take up to age 16 but you don't have to take the exam for.
Phew ok😅then at 16 you go to sixth form or college. Sixth form is either its own building or part of a secondary school and you have to take either A-levels or BTECs, both are qualifications but you need A-levels to get into university. BTEC's are more career focused i believe, so things like engineering, construction, media, IT etc. A-levels are basically just your usual schools subjects and you can take 3 (sometimes 4) and then when you apply to uni they have specific requirements. Like if you want to study medicine you need an alevel in biology and chemistry for example. Then colleges are only for 16-18yr olds, they offer courses that are again more career focused, for example by 17yr old brother is in college atm doing photography.
The school year is pretty similar here i think, we have a 6 week summer holiday, 2 weeks at christmas and 2 at easter but we also have half-terms which is basically a week off in the middle of each term (so in october, february and may/june). University is completely different though bc we dont get the half-terms :(
I thinkkkkk thats everything😅honestly who decided to make its so comlplex skdjsksl and i didnt even get into the types of schools like private/religious etc😅😅
ALSO angus, thongs and perfect snogging is an iconic read😌
