A reminder of the awesomeness which was the Nightwing from "Batman '66 meets Wonder Woman '77" as Robin has now grown up and put aside the short pants for this stunning ensemble with flares and a zip up tunic over his hairy chest)

Sometimes I think about the spinoff comic Batman 66 Meets Wonder Woman 77 and how, despite some of the issues I have with that storyline, there are a few things I genuinely like about it. I know some people apparently criticized the Joker's role in Bruce Wayne's temporary retirement as Batman, but to me, the narration about how Joker had become increasingly dangerous in his schemes could arguably be a stealth commentary on how the Joker as a character has become increasingly darker and edgier over the years. (Now, I do think some of the execution is flawed, but the concept in and of itself has merit, I think)
And then I think about When is a Door? and the Riddler's monologue about how much everything has changed over the years, to the point that he hasn't seen some of his old associates in years and the Joker's even killing people. Unlike the Meets Wonder Woman 77 issue, this one is pretty obviously doubling as meta-commentary.
Occasionally, I think about writing a fanfic that would set the two ambiguously within the same if not a similar continuity. Because in the 1966 Batman series, Riddler and Joker do genuinely seem to get along (although this is played with a bit in some of the spinoff comic continuations) and there's a part of me that wants to explore the angst potential of their gradual falling out as the Joker's approach to crime changes and Riddler's stays generally the same. Or even just one in which they meet again on somewhat neutral terms after that has already happened.
But at the same time, there's also a part of me that does not want to write that happening with those versions of the characters.

Round 3, Match 2:
Tumblr media
A classy cat burglar with a penchant for cheating death, Catwoman first appeared in an attempt to rob a museum in order to uncover the legendary treasure of Captain Manx. Unlike most of the other big-name rogues in the series, Catwoman often didn’t participate in the battles herself, slipping off to the sidelines to enjoy the show and make off with her loot. She appeared to have been killed following a drop down a deep chasm, but no trace of her body was found, and she later appeared in the second season. While in her first appearance, it was a bit more ambiguous, by the second season, she had developed an attraction to Batman, which on some level, he appeared to reciprocate, but they were unable to pursue a relationship due to their being on opposite sides of the law, as well as Catwoman’s overt dislike for Robin. Interestingly, Julie Newmar may not have been the original actress slated for the role. At the very least, Newmar described her casting as a last-minute decision. While she never took on a more antiheroic role in the series, several of the spinoffs including Return of the Caped Crusaders as well as the comic would later show her either willingly teaming up with Batman and/or Robin in the face of a greater threat, or even outright reforming in Batman 66 Meets Wonder Woman 77.
With his wild laugh and makeup-covered mustache, this Clown Prince of Crime was quite proud of his status, at one point even snapping at Batman that he, not Batman, was the funny man around Gotham. His first appearance saw him rigging a prison-yard baseball game to literally spring himself from the penitentiary. In that same appearance, he also crafted his own utility belt after seeing it spring the Caped Crusader from a trap one time too many. Unfortunately for him, his love of practical jokes became his own undoing since he was unable to resist playing a trick on Batman by swapping their utility belts. While this Joker is generally seen as pretty harmless compared to his later iterations, his second appearance showed that he could turn things deadly when he wanted to, only being stopped from killing the Dynamic Duo by a convenient power outage, and tricking a henchman he no longer had use for into inhaling poison. This Joker also seemed to have some appreciation for the arts, incorporating them into his schemes at several separate points, and even briefly impersonating an opera singer.

Holy, Birthday Bluebird, Batman!
Bert John Gervis Jr.'s Birthday: Dick Grayson as Nightwing (Batman '66 Meets Wonder Woman '77)
Today is Burt Ward's 76th birthday (6 July) an American actor and activist best known for his portrayal of Dick Grayson as Robin in the television series Batman (1966–1968), its theatrical feature film, the animated series The New Adventures of Batman (1977), Legends of the Superheroes (1979), and two animated feature films Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders (2016), Batman vs. Two-Face (2017), and recently reprising his role in the Crisis on Infinite Earths. While Ward has never had the privilege to don the mask of Nightwing or voice him in the animated films, his comic character, however, did in the Digital First story Batman '66 Meets Wonder Woman '77 – a story that stretched eleven years. One shower thought.
Batso pandering makes DC do highly illogical things.
Tumblr media
Why does Wonder Woman ‘77 had to meet with Batso ‘66 and not with Superman ‘77 or ‘78?
Why the eleven years jump when they had two contemporary heroes they could’ve bring together?
The idea was not, under any circumstance, bring together Diana and Clark. What about Lois? With all due respect to the memory of Margot Kidder, she couldn’t even lick the boots of Lynda Carter.
Tumblr media
Besides, Chris and Lynda look so damn good together, it would’ve been a terrible success and it would put Batso’66 in shame.
But this is Batso’s World, and things and people have to accommodate to that fact, even though they make far more sense.
I guess I’ll stop taking showers for good: no point in wasting them in useless thoughts.

i would like to talk abt this and how at his core bruce really just wants to help. and any iteration that doesnt acknowledge that, and lay it on thick, is missing the point. thats what drives him in business, and in his furry costume. he wants to lessen suffering and protect people. he just. wants. to. help.
