I'm not Religious, I just know about this through media, but tbh The Villain Rolfe Au reminds me SO much of the tale of Cain And Abel

Cause like, in Cain and Abel, God favored Abel's offering over Cain's. This lead Cain to kill Abel in a violent Rage. He was then Banished.

In @rolfedewolfefan16 's Villain Rolfe Au, The Manager Favored Billy Bob as a mascot for the Brand. This lead Rolfe into killing the Rockafire members in a violent Rage. He was then Locked into the closet for years

This hits different with my headcanon that Rolfe has Religious trauma. Idk Why, it's just both related to religion I guess...

You create a whole new being, not of sex or love or mortal coincidence. You create a whole new person from a piece of your own self, a virgin birth heralded by a young girl's faith- fully separate but still inextricable from you- a being whose only purpose is to bear the burden and wash the sins of the reality you created, who will inevitably have to die. And you tell him to sacrifice himself for the good of all. For the good of a woman he does not know, for the fall of a company he owes his life to, for better or worse.

What if that carpenter's son had resisted the nails driven through his palms? What if he had been willing and able to do everything except climb up on that cross? What if he didn't want to go with dignity into the night on the orders of a creator he can never know or see or touch but nonetheless has been told he is the same as?

Mark S cannot count on his resurrection. So he will not be a willing sacrifice.

(I call it the fake byzantine empire because the setting is playing with byzantine history that spans across three centuries, but it's also pulling from things like Statius' Thebaid and later medieval literature. folk catholic horror, probably. doctrinal debates and schisms are in here)

in light of severance s2e7: when helena calls gemma "hannah," i think that name was chosen intentionally. hannah (the biblical figure) was the first (deeply beloved) wife of a man with two wives, and the bulk of her story is about her struggle with infertility.

eventually she became so desperate for a child that she struck a bargain with God, promising that if he allowed her to have a son, she'd give that child back to the temple to be raised as a priest. while we still don't know the exact circumstances under which gemma entered the testing floor, one could speculate that lumon offered her similar terms: give us your innie, and we'll give you a child.

i'm not sure exactly how deep the parallel here is intended to run, but i haven't seen anyone mention this yet, so! food for thought
