A while ago I made a "Drawing an Indie Game Character a Day" challenge for fifty days and surprisingly completed it. I don't want to repost every single one in their own post since that'd be fifty separate ones lol, so I compiled them all into one image that you can hopefully see well.

While I'm thinking about it, how would you go about introducing someone to Sleep Token? What songs, interviews, lore discussions, etc work as good beginner reading/listening material?

Here's what I'm thinking song-wise:

(in order of what may be best received by someone that's at least listened to some metalcore before):

Alkaline

The Summoning (obviously lol, it's just long for an intro song compared to Alkaline )

Ascensionism

Hypnosis

The Offering

Dark Signs

Telomeres (if that's the vibe you think they'd connect with)

There's a few things I try to consider, especially with people whose tastes I'm unsure about—mostly in terms of sound and style.

Vessel has a gorgeous voice, but it is quite unique compared to a lot of other contemporary singers. Tbh it took me a few listens to finally "get it" (I think that's where some people might hear the peanut butter on the roof of his mouth thing. Especially b/c, for example, after my first ever 30-sec-then-skip listen of The Summoning, I saw a YT short with that joke and it gave me a somewhat neg impression of trying to listen again after that).

That, coupled with the genre-bending aspects of their sound (they're not fully prog metal or metalcore or djent or pop or [other]), I'm just not super sure of how to actually introduce a new listener, without having them write the whole band off because THAT listen of THAT song didn't vibe with them.

Idk, if you read this, feel free to share your thoughts. I really love these guys and they have something so so special going on, I just want to make sure I'm doing them justice when sharing their music.

I recently altered one of my band shirts and I love how it came out! I used bleach tie-dye and then redyed it with red tie-dye, as well as cutting off the sleeves beforehand.

It is time to think about the Mark Gatiss birthday drive for 2024! Mark’s birthday is 17 October and I’m excited to see how much money we can raise this year! Last year we raised £500 for Switchboard.

After a few too many glasses of wine, Victoria may or may not have signed her brother-in-law up for Queer Eye. Which would be great! Ray deserves some pampering, pep talks, a closet renewal, and for someone to teach him to cook something else than Sad Spaghetti.

It's just a bit hard to hide the fact that he's harbouring three teen ghosts in his garage, though.

i wonder if sister imperator's relationship with terzo is extra tense because nihil threw his mother over for her (and she ended up getting got when nihil was unfaithful to her)...it's giving wicked stepmother and then imagining her convincing nihil to kill his three first borns...whew.

sex pistols being a manufactured boy band is a fun and interesting thing to think abt but annoyig people online use it as some dismissive line to completely void any influence and value that they have... like that doesnt negate the fact that they were one of the biggest voices of punk rock and had a huge influence on that whole scene and genre and the future of popular music in general. and that they were a very interesting and unique creative project even if they didnt form in a natural way?

okay but what i will say is that i do see a faction of the mcr fanbase that do not engage at all with fob except to make petekey jokes, and like yeah i get it, it’s just a fun piece of fan lore that’s been passed around and if you don’t engage with fob at all, you wouldn’t see the harm in reducing their discography down to “haha it’s about mikey.” however i do implore you to at least read up and about their body of work, even if the music isn’t for you, as they deal with extremely complex, complicated and difficult subject matter, most of which is specific to pete’s experiences with racism, mental illness, exploitation, etc. his lyricism is something that cannot be removed from these experiences. his influence on the scene is so so fucking immense. he is a huge reason we saw so much genre crossover and exchange in the late 2000s, and i really need you to know how important it was that he consistently found ways to expose a majority white audience to black musicians, black lyricism, and black genres. you’re crashing but you’re no wave is about the trial of fred hampton jr. novocaine is about trayvon martin. he consistently references his own mental illness. he consistently references his own suicide attempt. he consistently discusses and points to the exploitation of women in our culture. he is an extremely influential figure and sometimes it’s a real shame to see him reduced down to a fan in-joke.
