The sheer amount of knowledge and skill the ATA girls had to have to qualify on all their aircraft is insane. They’d have to know how the different planes and engines operated to be able to fly them optimally. SO MUCH KNOWLEDGE.
I want Frank to absolutely verbally destroy someone with her brainpower and understanding of aeronautical engineering, plane design, piloting, and sheer badassery in the Officer’s Lounge one night.
She’s dressed to the nines, with stockings, and bloodlessly eviscerates someone.
Bucky just is there, holding her metaphorical flower, getting more and more turned on, telling Buck to watch his goddess in action. Isn’t she the tops? Literal heart eyes.
She rises in Harding’s esteem. He still knows too much about her and Bucky.
OMG this has to happen!! Now I have to do enough research so Frank can absolutely crush the cadet who tries to square up with her.
Bucky’s so proud, and hot, and he just needs to get her alone now after he tells everyone around him that he’s her Major. “She picked me, can you believe it?”

I have a lot of Thoughts about ExU: Downfall, but not enough brainpower to write them up better than the notes I took while watching, so here:
The gods of exandria Becoming made them lose so much possibility and have to pick one path, but the idea of leaving to start over is now a fear of losing who they became and fear of that potential. Also the Betrayer gods would be the ones to want to start over, because what they were forced to become is so painful, and maybe they deserve to dip back into that well of possibilities and rewrite their stories
Also: how fucked it is that the Dawnfather and Everlight healed people in the hospital knowing that in mere hours this was all going to be destroyed? I guess they both had optimism that they wouldn’t have to but they had to know it was a very likely scenario
The celestial killing himself to make a point was kind of like a teenager slamming their door shut. Trying to make their leaving seem final and serious but really they’ve just trapped themselves after pissing off their parents that they will still have to face later
Mortals vs Gods is like…Developmentally something about getting old enough to see that your parents are flawed people too, but you don’t decide to kill them over it. Aeor was like those parents putting down a dangerous dog to save the rest of the family. Obviously that would be traumatic to witness as a child and make you think maybe your parents were evil but not understand the full implications of what would have happened had they not done that

Imo the acceptance for AI we’re seeing is bc we’ve let the Tech Gamer Bros have power for too long. And these people have the mentality of exploitation and shortcuts. These mfs aren’t the old school billionaires who actually invented some shit. Like say what you want about Rockefeller and Gates but they did actually produce shit and get rewarded for it. These guys really haven’t.
That’s why they like crypto coin, NFTs, and shit. Because they want “get rich instantly irl” cheats like shit a video game.
Ofc a generation of people who have been raised with these types as the pinnacle of success aren’t going to want to work at doing anything and just want the immediate rewards.
This is the “maximize optimization, instant gratification” age. Not to sound like a boomer rn but as an older GenZ, it’s just a different world.
You see that even with online entertainment.
There wasn’t mfs like Mr. Beast when I was a kid/teenager. It was small, grass root creators who you either stumbled upon bc you were online fr or bc of people around you. The most “Hollywood” YouTubers I remember were Smosh, Channel Awesome, and a few others. But it really was people who did shit just because they wanted to, or because it was an accessible option.
When you have an generation of people who are raised in this world, you can’t blame them for trading in every conceivable skill that they could use to better their lives for the sake of convenience/automation bc everything they’ve absorbed has worshipped that.
This isn’t boomer talk. It’s just the reality that younger people have been molded to think like this by online figures and Tech Gamer Bro culture. I feel bad for them, like I can’t imagine growing up and living in a world where I know that aspiring to be anything is worthless bc you’ll never be able to have that be a way to better your life.
“Why even spend time on writing, drawing, editing, coding, talking to others” I’ll just use an AI to do that all. Bitch what the fuck are you gon do with your spare time if you automate everything we do that makes us human? Consume short form content in bed while you bed rot and play video games? Bitch get off your ass and have some lust for life tf have some kind of dream of being somebody.
Like do the kids not dream of going on a journey, trying your best at something, and getting successful off it and having that sense of “wow, I did it. I worked and got everything I wanted in life. I poured my heart, time, and soul into something and people like it. I got to share a piece of myself with the world and they accepted it. It meant something to them”. I hate to be an oldhead but I genuinely don’t get it. Maybe it’s Late 90s Kid mentality. I dunno.
I just don’t understand wanting to throw every conceivable avenue for a better life away in exchange for seemingly nothing at all except not having to do something that takes some brainpower or isn’t immediately fun/dopamine giving. This is coming from somebody with adhd too like damn bitch
It’s so bleak and it’s so depressing that a sizable amount of the population wants to throw everybody into abyss of doing fuck-all?

one day when i have the brainpower i'll write a full fucking essay abt this but until then i just gotta say it. this generation is plagued by doomerism in a way that's not even funny anymore. and not only that, there's also this...this mean-spirited, derisory attitude that's being shown towards attempts at earnestness or optimism. like, being unironically positive or hopeful abt smth nowadays is just...cringe, or naive, or dumb. it's getting on my nerves and i'm done being nice abt it, idk who needs to hear this but you literally cannot hate yourself, your life, or the world into a better version of yourself/your life/the world. you're just allowing your brain and soul to rot and then wondering why everything stays the same...sorry not sorry but having hope isn't always easy, and sometimes making things better means being uncomfortable
#personal#venting#like...i just. i just wanna cry i feel like i've had it. everyone is so mean and cynical and god damn it i used to be like that TOO#i get it i can look around and smell the fire#but if u give up bcs u think you seem intellectually or morally superior...well. made ur own bed etc etc#i'm sure the tone and teh language i'm using here might come off as overly aggressive but i'm just tryna exorcise it somewhere

Haha yeah, you know me too well. Yeah, I've always been big on patterns. There was this one time when I was in like 8th grade I got invited to family game night at some friends' house. They explained a card game and let me watch a round.
In the game, the judge decides on a pattern in their head. "Red card, face card, clubs card" or something like that. Then everyone else takes turns laying down cards. The judge declares whether each card is correct or incorrect. At the beginning, it's all guesswork; at some point, the pattern emerges, and then we all congratulate ourselves and change roles.
They let me come in as the judge.
This was a mistake. I was small and full of spite. I didn't know about things like "sharing" or making things "winnable." I knew that the optimal pattern was something so complex they'd never get it but so simple my win would be legitimate. I wouldn't mess with the environment, or with counting the cards, or with a pattern of the frequencies of in/correct. It had to be a visible card pattern, and mine was going to be the best visible card pattern ever.
I chose my pattern. We started. And they started losing their minds.
From their viewpoints, there was no pattern. No rhyme or reason, no telling. I sat increasingly smug in my spot at the table. Half the deck was gone. They stared daggers at me. They had a very nice red-black pattern going, but it wasn't the deciding factor. They asked if I was sure there weren't any mistakes. I was sure. They played on. One declared she didn't have anything left to play. She was wrong, and I looked at her cards and told her so.
They started collaborating among themselves. Pointing at cards. Showing each other their cards. Two thirds of the way through the deck. Three quarters. Seven eighths. Card after card laid down, some accepted, some rejected. By far, farther than they'd ever made it in a game. It wasn't fun anymore, but I wasn't gonna call it off just because the kids were getting bored. I was full of more brainpower than those little twits could even conceptualize, and I was going to win.
One player went out--I confirmed nothing usable left in their hand. Then another. The remaining three played out their cards, swapping turns and swapping theories. Interest had waned. They stared at me glumly as they laid their cards, waiting for a verdict they couldn't predict. A parent left the room to work on the pizza and snacks.
Finally they were stuck. The deck was exhausted, and so were they. A few random cards left over, nothing discernably interesting about any of them.
"Give up?" I asked, a triumphant gleam in my eyes.
They stared at me.
I pointed to the array of cards snaking along the table. "If you'll see here," I gestured expansively, "it's a very simple pattern. Every other card has to be an even number."
They stared at me.
I swallowed.
"So, every other card could be literally anything?" asked an older sibling.
"Y-yeah," I said, losing 80% of my confidence. "...Isn't that fun?"
I was rescued by the remaining parent standing up from the table. "Why don't we start the movie now," they suggested, and started shepherding their glaring children into the living room.
"It could be worse," I explained lamely. "It could have been every fourth, or fifth, or I could have targeted people with their elbows on the table, or...." I trailed off as an adult started directing us toward pizza and snacks.
Anyway, I think that whole escapade says a lot about me in junior high school and also me as a person. Yeah, that pattern recognition is kinda like why I always get the same thing. Yeah, a number seven, ketchup only on the burger, regular fries, root beer with no ice. Can I tip you? Do you take cash tips?

Recently I followed a bunch of people who are from a pretty different place on the politic spectrum with the intention of hearing apparently-smart people speak about issues in a way that's starkly separate from my own habitual thinking. And I mean SOMEtimes it works, SOMEtimes they reblog something that appears sound to me, and they add a string of questions that I wouldn't have thought of because it's not part of my own social training, and that's great--even if I don't wind up agreeing, at least I'm challenging myself. But a lot of the time that's not really what happens, and the main thing I've learned is that a lot of people who are passionate about politics and sociology are more fixated on civilians with wrong opinions than they are on the actual structures and officials in question, so there's just a lot of people with a lot of viable brainpower wasting it on emotional reactions to one another. When this happens in the lower eschelons where things are less academic it's very obvious, with a lot of stupid memes and name-calling and stuff, but then if you parse a lot of the academic rhetoric you find this undercurrent of emotion that's full of resentment about perceived whineniness and preciousness entitlement and jealousy and like brute selfishness versus moronic idealism and all this other stuff that's very people-based and really just a huge distraction from whatever the real issues might be. To be frank, as much as conservatives are fairly annoyed by hyperbolic lefty moralizing, I always think I detect this woundedness in the conservative voice, at least among the smart kids. It's like, ground zero for political development is the recognition of the fact that the world is a sadistic unfair meat grinder, and then there are two main directions people take:
1. Trying to dismantle and replace the meatgrinder, which at its worst takes the form of reductive fairytale optimism and self-righteousness. 2. Trying to prove that the meatgrinder is the natural, non-negotiable state of things so the right thing to do is ingratiate yourself to it, which at its worst takes the form of exaggerated Nietzschean posturing, poor readings of martial philosophy, and the patently ridiculous, materially impossible fantasy of enjoying a life of luxury by going Galt.
The people who have taken path 2 often just sound really hurt to me, under all their bravado about running with the proverbial bulls. Like they know we're all trapped in a fucked system and they can see how it's hurting people around them and even themselves, and the only thing they can do about the trauma of being so totally compromised is to double down and do things like, every day pick a random lefty talking point--even one that's backed by science and statistics and highly visible forms of destruction--and do your lawful-evil processing thing to it to prove that the intuitively obviously conclusions are all wrong, and what's right is just whatever happens to support increased resource-hoarding and institutional violence. Of course some of these people are dyed in the wool assholes, but some of them sound really traumatized to me, like people who have convinced themselves that their own bullies are right because it hurts less to believe that things make sense and life IS fair even if it's painful. Following these guys hasn't been as educational as I hoped. To some degree it helps me check myself, but mostly it's just sad.

might need to bite the bullet and crawl back to my doctor to ask about possibly my thyroid being the cause of all my issues somehow
because apparently my aunt has had thyroid issues all her life, had the only doctor in her small village dismiss her because "welp can't do anything about it, whatever" for most of her childhood and teen years (she's been very chubby for no apparent reason while eating the same meals and doing the same level of physical activity as the rest of the family who were all quite slim at the time. that's what being a poor working class family doing loads of backbreaking physical labour in the post ww2 countryside does i guess), and has been taking supplements for the past 30 years to ensure almost optimal function. huh
so that stuff does seem to run in our family, at least on the maternal side...
and my thyroid levels have been kinda sus sometimes over the past 10-15 years, but then normalised again, so no further exploration or treatments were ordered and I was dismissed as just anxious/mentally ill and a hypochondriac for still experiencing abnormal weight gain/trouble keeping weight off the healthy way, chronic fatigue and pain
...
tbh grasping at straws here since my parents don't tell me anything, avoid doctors like the plague unless it's life or death, and probably don't know about any of their health issues at all
augh no use ruminating, let's just repress it all and keep chugging along like everything's fine 👍 don't have the brainpower all this bs haha
#vent#i guess???? just... thinking about it all.... idk man#I've spent the past years just dissociating from my physical manifestation so much that i cannot tell what's normal and what's not#or the issues that have cropped up or gotten worse or have always been there and dismissed all my life#IDK!!!!!!!!#anyway we keep chugging along. if everyone says i'm at peak health then i must be. just gotta ignore all the pain and discomfort 👍

Okay, since the damage calc chart didn't update for the ones I was interested in, some damage calcs for Iono and Katherine.
Iono I made in contrast to Elesa. That felt like the most likely option to be equivalent. I was...so wrong. 64k sync for Elesa, 47k sync for Iono. That's with Iono's Brainpower. By contrast, with the +3 SMUN for Iono, her DPS hits 35k. Compared to Elesa's 12k per Wild Charge. Considering Iono has the ability to stack those bursts every three turns, this puts them about the same for DPS, with Elesa higher on sync. Unsurprising, but in truth, I'm kinda impressed Iono hits so hard.
As for Katherine, she's a free pair, I'm sure her damage output on sync is gonna be fairly low, so let's look at Mina, I'm sure she can-
Katherine (5*): 113,616 Mina (EX): 95,461
:O
Okay, this is with optimized conditions, which are going to be exceptionally hard to achieve. I pushed Katherine back to -3 Atk/Sp Def, as if we had Lucian in place for those debuffs while she hits Eva. I also dropped Fairy Zone in favor of Penny's Rebuff, which is just better than SS Mina in every way here. In contrast, Mina also has trouble. She needs offensive help, but has to choose between Def debuffs and Zone. I opted for Def debuffs, as a more available option, and because as a reminder debuffs have a stronger effect than Zones when picking one or the other.
Katherine 5*: 64,451 Mina EX: 63,641
Guys. I think Katherine might actually be like. Super good. Actually. Like she outperforms the other big free Fairy Tech nuker, who has EX. Mina has generally easier tool availability, but Katherine has AoE on her debuff and thus less setup consideration. She can also, if needed, slot in SS Wally instead of Lucian. It misses Atk debuffs, but gets Zone, Rebuff, and Sp Def drops. Katherine's partners are more expensive, but she feels a lot more interesting than Mina.

Disclaimer before anything: this paper is not peer reviewed, and not all that good. In the discussion section they acknowledge it. The group is small enough that the research team can’t be confident in their results and they only used one LLM so the results can only be applied to ChatGPT. Also, the existence of a control group for session 4 is debatable. That doesn’t mean this is useless, it just means everything here is more interesting observation than proven fact.
I think it’s very important to point out that this paper is not entirely against the use of AI but rather warns against relying on AI to do a task rather than using it as a tool
The study includes three groups: LLM (chatGPT users), search engine users, and brain only. Each group wrote three essays over three sessions while having their cognitive behavior monitored by EEG and afterwards completed a survey and had their essays judged by AI and human teachers. Then there was a fourth session in which the LLM and brain only groups switched.
Original LLM (large language model) participants might have gained in the initial skill acquisition using LLM for a task, but it did not substitute for the deeper neural integration, which can be observed for the original Brain-only group. Educational interventions should consider combining Al tool assistance with tools-free learning phases to optimize both immediate skill transfer and long-term neural development.
those who had previously written without tools (Brain-only group), the so-called Brain-to-LLM group, exhibited significant increase in brain connectivity across all EEG frequency bands when allowed to use an LLM on a familiar topic. This suggests that Al-supported re-engagement invoked high levels of cognitive integration, memory reactivation, and top-down control.
(Pg. 139)
The researchers found that those first three sessions were crucial to the skills of the participants. The original brain only group had developed good essay writing skills and were able to use ChatGPT as a tool to write even better essays. Meanwhile, the original LLM group struggled because in the first three sessions they were so heavily reliant on ChatGPT they didn’t actually develop good writing skills so in the brain only session, their essays got worse.
This shows that AI can be used as a tool as long as you don’t rely on it. If you are doing the task yourself with your own brainpower and AI is just a tool you use. Like don’t use ChatGPT to write your email but having grammarly to help you with grammar or tone can be very helpful and beneficial to you.
These are the three big points highlighted from data from session 4
1 Early Al reliance may result in shallow encoding: LLM group's poor recall and incorrect quoting is a possible indicator that their earlier essays were not internally integrated, likely due to outsourced cognitive processing to the LLM.
2. Withholding LLM tools during early stages might support memory formation: Brain-only group's stronger behavioral recall, supported by more robust EEG connectivity, suggests that initial unaided effort promoted durable memory traces, enabling more effective reactivation even when LLM tools were introduced later.
3. Metacognitive engagement is higher in the Brain-to-LLM group: Brain-only group might have mentally compared their past unaided efforts with tool-generated suggestions (as supported by their comments during the interviews), engaging in self-reflection and elaborative rehearsal, a process linked to executive control and semantic integration, as seen in their EEG profile.
(Pg. 140)
AI can be useful, it can be a good and useful tool, but it can’t replace actual cognitive skill. You have to have those skills before you start using tools like AI or you risk relying on it and forever having underdeveloped cognitive skills. You have to have the skills to do the task on your own so when you have the tool you are using it as a tool and not a substitute.
That being said, even if you have developed the skills to begin with, you can lose those skills by relying on the AI too much
LLM undeniably reduced the friction involved in answering participants' questions compared to the Search Engine. However, this convenience came at a cognitive cost, diminishing users' inclination to critically evaluate the LLM's output or "opinions" (probabilistic answers based on the training datasets). This highlights a concerning evolution of the 'echo chamber' effect: rather than disappearing, it has adapted to shape user exposure through algorithmically curated content. What is ranked as "top" is ultimately influenced by the priorities of the LLM's shareholders [123, 125].
Only a few participants in the interviews mentioned that they did not follow the "thinking" [124] aspect of the LLMs and pursued their line of ideation and thinking.
(Pg. 143)
So basically, AI can be a good and useful tool. Just don’t let it think for you.
The AI should be helping you not doing your work. It’s like a parent helping you with your homework. It’s ok if they help you, but you’ve still got to do the work yourself. Yeah it would be nice if they just did it for you, but they’re really not supposed to.
Also also, the study does also acknowledge that language learning models like ChatGPT used a crazy amount of energy. That energy doesn’t come from nowhere, it isn’t free and it isn’t infinite (at least not the way we’re currently getting it). We will be paying for that eventually, whether by drought as water gets used up in cooling towers or as we run out of fossil fuels faster. And please keep that in mind when you go to use generative AI, it is very much so killing the earth to use it that much.
TLDR: Grammarly >>> ChatGPT
