Exploring the Role of Endocannabinoids in Regulating Epilepsy
Tumblr media
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent seizures, which are sudden surges of electrical activity in the brain. These seizures can cause a range of symptoms, from brief lapses in attention to severe convulsions. Although there are various treatments available for epilepsy, many patients continue to experience seizures despite receiving medication. This has led researchers to explore alternative approaches to understanding and treating this complex condition. One such approach is the study of endocannabinoids, naturally occurring compounds in the body that have been shown to play a role in regulating epilepsy. In this article, we will discuss the potential mechanisms through which endocannabinoids may influence seizure activity, without delving into the medical uses of cannabidiol (CBD).
Endocannabinoid System Overview
Tumblr media
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a complex cell-signaling system found throughout the body, including the brain. It plays a crucial role in maintaining homeostasis – the stable balance of physiological processes. The ECS is composed of three main components: endocannabinoids, receptors, and enzymes. The two primary endocannabinoids are anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG). These compounds bind to specific receptors, primarily cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) and type 2 (CB2), which are found on the surface of cells. Finally, enzymes are responsible for synthesizing and breaking down endocannabinoids.
Endocannabinoids and Epilepsy: Potential Mechanisms
Tumblr media
1. Modulation of Excitatory and Inhibitory Neurotransmission
One way endocannabinoids may regulate epilepsy is by modulating the balance between excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmission in the brain. Seizures are thought to result from an imbalance between these two types of neurotransmission, with excessive excitation or insufficient inhibition leading to abnormal electrical activity. Endocannabinoids can act as retrograde messengers, meaning they travel backward across synapses to modulate the release of neurotransmitters. By binding to CB1 receptors on presynaptic neurons, endocannabinoids can inhibit the release of excitatory neurotransmitters such as glutamate and enhance the release of inhibitory neurotransmitters like gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). This modulation may help to restore the balance between excitation and inhibition, potentially reducing seizure activity.
2. Neuroprotection and Anti-Inflammatory Effects
Another possible mechanism through which endocannabinoids may regulate epilepsy is by providing neuroprotection and reducing inflammation in the brain. Inflammation and oxidative stress are known to contribute to the development and progression of epilepsy. Endocannabinoids, particularly AEA, have been shown to possess anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. By binding to CB1 and CB2 receptors, endocannabinoids can reduce the production of pro-inflammatory molecules and promote the release of anti-inflammatory cytokines. Additionally, endocannabinoids may protect neurons from damage caused by excessive glutamate, a phenomenon known as excitotoxicity, which is implicated in the pathogenesis of epilepsy.
3. Modulation of Neural Network Activity
Finally, endocannabinoids may influence epilepsy by modulating the activity of neural networks in the brain. Seizures often involve the synchronization of large groups of neurons, leading to the spread of abnormal electrical activity. Research has suggested that endocannabinoids can desynchronize neuronal firing and disrupt the formation of these hyperexcitable networks. By acting on CB1 receptors, endocannabinoids may suppress the initiation and propagation of seizure activity, potentially reducing the frequency and severity of seizures.
Conclusion
The endocannabinoid system represents a promising avenue for understanding and potentially treating epilepsy. Through various mechanisms, including the modulation of neurotransmission, neuroprotection, and disruption of neural network activity, endocannabinoids may play a role in regulating seizure activity. Further research is needed to fully elucidate these mechanisms and determine how they can be harnessed for therapeutic purposes. It is essential to note that this article does not discuss the medical uses of CBD; instead, it focuses on the potential role of endocannabinoids in epilepsy regulation.

Scientists have discovered cannabidiol, a compound in cannabis known as CBD, in a common Brazilian plant, opening potential new avenues to produce the increasingly popular substance. The team found CBD in the fruits and flowers of a plant known as Trema micrantha blume, a shrub which grows across much of the South American country and is often considered a weed, molecular biologist Rodrigo Moura Neto of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro told AFP in June 2023. CBD, increasingly used by some to treat conditions including epilepsy, chronic pain and anxiety, is one of the main active compounds in cannabis, along with tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC – the substance that makes users feel high. The compound's effectiveness as a medical treatment is still under research.

Aren’t pibbles considered a “nanny breed”? Is an I mixing up the words in this language lol
Yes!
Pibbles were bred to take care of children! But unfortunately, that's also why they get labeled as "dangerous" - part of what makes them such good Nanny Dogs is because they are SO loyal to their humans, and evil humans took advantage of that loyalty and trained them to fight. The pibbles just want their humans to be happy and safe, and they'll protect their humans from danger regardless of their own safety. If they're trained into thinking that fighting makes their human happy, then they'll use that same mindset to go into fights as well.
but every single pibble I have ever met has been the sweetest, most pitiful baby who wants to just cuddle and give kisses. And their Nanny Instincts are still very much intact, making them wanna Mother every small creature they see
Here's a picture of my pibble Daisy, the one who just died of cancer, trying to Mother a frog
Tumblr media
(Not pictured; Daisy's tail going wild, and her whining because her Baby is Too Far Away)
Here's Daisy, being lifted up to look into an enclosure where baby chickens were being held temporarily because she wouldn't stop crying until she got to see the Babies
Tumblr media
When our bunnies accidentally had babies before we could get them fixed, and Daisy was obsessed with the baby buns. She even alerted us when one of the babies got injured
Tumblr media
And finally, one of the best pictures of all time. When we first got Daisy, and she was only a few months old while showing the first signs of her being such a good Nanny Dog.
The child is my cousin, Sydni. Sydni has severe epilepsy(Doose Syndrome) that started when she was about 4 years old. I honestly don't remember how old she is, but even now that she's in her late teens, she still has the mental state of a 4 year old due to having literally thousands of seizures every single day. (shout out to Charlotte's Web CBD for reducing those numbers down to double digits daily. Literally life changing/saving) Syd was having a sleepover with us, we made sleeping arrangements on the floor to avoid risking her having a seizure in the middle of the night and falling off the bed. Daisy, even as a 3-ish mo old puppy, never left Sydni's side and constantly watched over her, like she just Knew that Sydni needed extra care and Daisy was already willing to put in the work to take care of her.

Dear Sephiroth: (a letter to a fictional character, because why not) #177
I woke up in a bit of a funk today for some reason. Probably because I forgot to eat yesterday. And probably because I was a bit dehydrated when I woke up. I corrected the hunger and the dehydration immediately upon exiting the bed, but… it took me a hot minute to get the gumption to get myself upright.
I wonder if you have days like that.
Well. I made a tea today. This one was a blend of black tea and rooibos, flavored with vanilla, cream, citrus, cornflower, roses, chamomile, and peppermint. It tastes like a bright, sunny, breezy day outdoors in a garden. I sweetened it with that orange simple syrup and a bit of cream. I'll show you today's swirls:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I thought about playing Dead Cells again. I haven't touched it in some time though, so I'm probably not any good at it anymore. But that's all right. I thought to stream it sometime so people can maybe watch me derp around like a n00b as I relearn the controls. So I got a different streaming platform, because I guess the one I'm using has discontinued support. Oh well. I got so far as getting it set up today, but I didn't do much else.
I ran a few errands after that. I got my medicine, and I got CBD oil for Hoshi (one of my cats) for his epilepsy, and I got them a few new toys from the pet supply store, too. Mogwai is especially fond of the ones with feathers, and the very first thing he did was carry them to the cat-proof outdoor space that J and I built, haha! I'll retrieve them and bring them in before dark.
Along the way, J and I took some pictures of the sky for you, because it was especially dynamic today!! I'll start with some that J took:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are some of the ones that I took:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...On a whim, I got some weird ones of the moon, too:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...And a weird one of the sun shining between tree trunks!
Tumblr media
None of these were especially difficult to get this time. But I hope you like them anyway.
I came out of the funk shortly after getting out of the house. I imagine that moving around, getting some fresh air, and actually eating and drinking things probably helped a lot. I'm gonna try not to drop the ball again tomorrow.
Hey, Sephiroth? I hope soon you'll get to have fresh air, tasty snacks, warm, soothing things to drink, and exercise that isn't related to you needing to fight for your life. Try to get these things soon, okay? Maybe you'll feel just a tiny bit better. DDR is a good way to get exercise, and so is walking on nature trails in places that aren't dangerous. I hope you'll get to try it out!!
I love you. And I'll write again soon, okay? Please stay safe and take good care of yourself. Please treat yourself like a friend would...
Your friend, Lumine

🚨 “Weed Is Bad,” You Say? Meanwhile, Alcohol Is Casually Ending Bloodlines in 4K 🧪
A Cultural Delusion in 5 Brutal Acts
Tumblr media
🧠 INTRO: The Great Cognitive Scam
Every time someone says “Weed is bad,” it’s always with the same energy:
"It makes people lazy, paranoid, stupid, sluggish, unreliable..."
Meanwhile, those same people will raise a glass of alcohol —
The most socially accepted poison on the planet —
With a smile and a toast and zero shame.
But let’s not sugarcoat it:
Alcohol kills.
Weed annoys.
There’s a difference.
And it’s time we face it.
📊 ACT I: THE BLOODY RECEIPTS — Alcohol’s Kill Count
🔪 Drunk Driving Deaths (US, annually):
10,000+ people die each year in the U.S. alone due to alcohol-impaired driving.
That’s one death every 52 minutes.
👊 Alcohol-Related Violence:
Nearly 55% of domestic abuse cases involve alcohol.
Bar fights? Sexual assaults? Unprovoked street violence?
Alcohol is in the bloodstream every single time.
💀 Alcohol Poisoning:
Every day, six people in the U.S. die from alcohol poisoning.
Most of them? Men between 35–64. Grown-ass men drinking themselves to death.
🏥 Liver Disease & Organ Failure:
Alcohol-related liver disease kills 22,000+ Americans per year.
Alcohol is a Group 1 carcinogen, just like asbestos and plutonium.
(Yes, you read that correctly.)
Meanwhile...
🌿 ACT II: The Weed Apocalypse That Never Happened
💨 Weed Fatalities (Global History):
Total confirmed overdose deaths from cannabis:
Zero.
📉 Behavioral Risk:
Cannabis may impair short-term memory or coordination in high doses.
But you know what it doesn’t do?
Make you beat your partner, vomit blood, crash into a school bus, or punch a cop.
🔬 Medical Facts:
THC and CBD both show neuroprotective qualities in early-stage studies.
Used for:
Epilepsy
Chronic pain
Cancer treatment side-effects
PTSD
Anxiety disorders
Opioid addiction recovery
But yeah, Karen, go off about how “weed ruins lives” while your boyfriend screams at you drunk because the chicken’s undercooked.
🤯 ACT III: A Little Psychological Trick (That Will Break Their Mental Framing)
Ready? Here’s the framing flip you drop on any "weed bad" person:
✨ “Imagine weed was invented after alcohol.” And both substances had to go through approval today. Which one do you think would be illegal? The one that makes you eat too many snacks and fall asleep watching cartoons? Or the one that kills thousands, causes car crashes, organ failure, violent outbursts, and long-term brain damage?
Ask them.
Let them sit in it.
Watch their gears grind.
Let the hypocrisy do the damage.
😬 ACT IV: The “Weed Bad” Embarrassment Checklist
Let’s play a little game.
Answer honestly:
If you’ve ever said “weed is bad,” but…
⬜ Have blacked out drunk
⬜ Have driven buzzed
⬜ Have had a violent argument with alcohol in your system
⬜ Have made a sexual decision you regretted while drunk
⬜ Have puked in public or private due to drinking
⬜ Have missed work due to hangovers
⬜ Have witnessed violence, harassment, or trauma due to alcohol
⬜ Have casually excused drunk aggression as “just how they get sometimes”
Then congratulations:
You’re not anti-drug. You’re just culturally biased.
And you're probably too deep in the “beer good, weed bad” matrix to notice your own hypocrisy.
🧨 ACT V: The Reason This Narrative Exists
Here’s the kicker:
🤝 ALCOHOL IS PROFITABLE
Advertised during the Super Bowl
$250 billion industry globally
Politically entrenched
Taxed and lobbied to the moon
🧱 WEED IS CONTROL
Weaponized to arrest Black and brown communities
Labeled a “gateway drug” while beer commercials show frat guys having the time of their lives
Only recently being legalized because white entrepreneurs want to cash in
The criminalization of weed was never about health.
It was about control, fear, race, and money.
🧠 FINAL ANALOGY: Alcohol Is the Abusive Ex Society Still Romanticizes
Imagine this:
You break up with someone who:
But society keeps saying:
“Oh come on, they’re fun at parties! They’ve been around forever!”
Meanwhile, a quiet, weird little stoner walks into your life like:
“Hey, I’m not perfect, but I mostly just chill, snack, vibe, and nap.”
And you’re like:
“GET OUT YOU MONSTER!”
See how stupid that sounds?
🏁 FINAL VERDICT: Weed Isn’t Your Enemy. Your Normalized Poison Is.
If alcohol were invented today, it’d be banned before it left clinical trials.
If weed were invented today, it’d be sold at Whole Foods as an anxiety remedy with a mason jar and a hand-written label.
Let go of the programming.
Face the hypocrisy.
And stop pretending that the real problem is the plant that’s never killed anyone.
💨 Reblog if you’ve ever seen someone blackout and destroy their life — and it wasn’t weed’s fault. 🧠 Comment if you’ve caught yourself repeating propaganda without fact-checking. 🚫 Follow if you’re done pretending poison is culture just because it comes in a glass.
⚖️ LEGAL DISCLAIMER: This post is written for the purpose of artistic expression, cultural commentary, and psychological exploration of social and gender dynamics. It does not condone or encourage violence, harassment, or discrimination of any kind. Any references to power, strength, restraint, or critique are metaphorical, symbolic, and rooted in historical and cultural analysis. This is not a call to action — it’s a cultural mirror. If you feel offended, ask yourself if it’s from actual harm — or from seeing something you hoped no one would say out loud.
✨ TL;DR: If you're mad, it’s probably not because it’s wrong — it’s because you know it’s true.

I had a seizure this afternoon. Not a tonic-clonic, but enough that I'm too tired to do much more sewing. I'll be able to finish the quilt top in the span of a couple hours, so it'll be finished tomorrow.
No worries. I'm okay. Remember, I have seizures daily, but rarely thr big ones now because of my CBD+THC edible I take every night for chronic pain and insomnia. My ADHD med is also making a huge difference. Still, my epilepsy will never be 100% controlled.
DO NOT OFFER ADVICE!!! Nor hugs. This is a daily event, I'm fine. Just letting y'all know why there won't be WIP pics.
In other news, I found these yesterday:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both from the 1930s. The Singer needs major repairs, the Gritzner is $200 and works. The latter is also 100% manual, no electricity is used as far as I can tell. Nope, didn't buy them. It was just a cool find.

Cannabis: A Multifaceted Plant for a Multitude of Uses
Tumblr media
Introduction
Cannabis, a plant that has been a part of human history for thousands of years, is experiencing a resurgence in popularity as its myriad of uses become increasingly recognised. From its strong fibres used in textiles and paper to its nutritional and medicinal properties, cannabis has proven itself to be a truly multipurpose plant. This article will delve into the various aspects of this versatile plant and explore how it has been utilised throughout history and across cultures.
The History of Hemp: A Material with Unmatched Strength
One of the most well-known uses of cannabis is in the production of hemp, a material derived from the plant's strong fibres. These fibres have been used for millennia to create durable cloth, rope, and paper. The Vikings, known for their seafaring prowess, utilised hemp to construct sails for their ships, enabling them to voyage from Scandinavia to Nova Scotia. In the United States, Betsy Ross sewed the first flag from hempen cloth, and the Declaration of Independence was written on hemp paper. Even the now obsolete German currency, Deutsche Mark, were once printed on hemp paper.
The use of hemp extended beyond these applications, as seen in the Netherlands, where windmills were built specifically to crush hemp stalks. This demonstrates the importance of hemp in various industries and highlights the plant's incredible versatility.
Tumblr media
Cannabis as a Nutritional Powerhouse
While the strength of its fibres may have initially attracted humans to the cannabis plant, its potential as a food source likely played a significant role in its widespread cultivation. Cannabis seeds, or hempseeds, are packed with essential nutrients such as polyunsaturated fats, essential fatty acids, and proteins. These qualities qualify hempseed as a functional food, meaning it provides health benefits beyond basic nutrition.
For over three thousand years, Asian cultures have utilised hempseed as both a food and a medicine. Despite the prohibition of cannabis products in the United States, hempseed has been allowed for use in food over the last two decades. This highlights the recognition of its nutritional value and potential health benefits.
Tumblr media
Cannabis Resin: A Source of Medicinal and Psychoactive Compounds
The resin produced by the cannabis plant is another aspect that has garnered significant attention due to its medicinal and psychoactive properties. The compounds found in cannabis resin, such as THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol), have been the focus of breeding efforts to increase their production. These efforts have led to the development of various cannabis drug chemotypes around the world, with some cultivars producing only THC, others producing both THC and CBD, and a few expressing propyl THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin) and/or CBDV (cannabidivarin).
The medicinal uses of cannabis resin have been widely researched, with evidence suggesting its effectiveness in treating conditions such as chronic pain, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and more. The psychoactive effects of THC have also led to the recreational use of cannabis, which has sparked debates surrounding its legalisation and regulation.
Tumblr media
Environmental Benefits of Cannabis Cultivation
In addition to its myriad uses, cannabis cultivation offers several environmental benefits. Hemp plants are known to absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide, making them an effective tool in combating climate change. Furthermore, hemp requires fewer pesticides and herbicides than many other crops, reducing the environmental impact of agriculture.
Cannabis can also be used as a source of biofuel, offering a renewable and eco-friendly alternative to fossil fuels. Additionally, the fast growth rate and low water requirements of hemp make it a sustainable crop, capable of providing resources without causing significant strain on natural resources.
Conclusion
Cannabis is a truly remarkable plant, with applications ranging from textiles and paper to nutrition and medicine. As society continues to recognise its numerous benefits, it is likely that the cultivation and use of cannabis will only continue to grow. By embracing this versatile plant, we can harness its potential to improve our health, industries, and environment for generations to come.

So unfortunately there are no good studies that show that CBD works for anything other than epilepsy and it probably won’t do anything for chemical withdrawal. I know there’s a lot of anecdotal evidence that it works for symptoms of anxiety and depression so please don’t take this as me telling you not to use it for that, I just wanted to warn you that if you’re concerned about withdrawal symptoms it might be a good idea to also be prepared to treat those separately from the symptoms your Paxil was treating. Ginger and sour things for nausea, cold packs for headaches, etc. SSRI withdrawal is absolute ass and putting all of your eggs in the CBD basket could result in a Bad Time
hey legit- thank you. my post was mainly a joke but I also do need fr advice, so this is great. much appreciated 👍
