Seeing him with Rockpile (twice) left an indelible impression on me in terms of stage presence and entertainment value. When his PURE POP FOR NOW PEOPLE LP came out, it became required listening in my social circle. I read that Nick never does live performances of his song “I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass” (allegedly a comeback to a Blondie song). So, here’s my take of it, live at the Cellblock (opening for The Badlees). Meanwhile, HB Nick and thank you for your fascinating body of work.

Heaven's yes!!!! It is absolutely fine. Please don't let that be a barrier. I have done several prison sentences in Germany. The language barrier made it more exciting!

We just stumble through the translations and play harder!

Page 1. --- 300 New Cells Are to be Constructed. --- Female Prison Almost Ready For Occupancy - New Roman Catholic Chapel. --- What with new and contemplated buildings the Portsmouth Penitentiary is a very busy place just now. The north, or old administration wing of the penitentiary, is now being rebuilt and will be turned into a cell wing to accommodate in the neighborhood of 300 cells, all of which will be fitted up in the latest improved style.

A new keeper's hall - a separate building - has been built; and a new Roman Catholic chapel is under course of construction. The latter will be over the prison kitchen and to the south of the Protestant chapel. Workmen are busy on it now and it will be finished this winter.

In this connection it is interesting to note that the new female prison is almost completed and will likely be occupied by Oct. 1.

Built in 1987. Sane floor plan as cell block E. Total 55,200 square feet.

Two wings. One control center.

Nice they included skylights. Cell block J has none.

About 65 cells in each wing.

Note the small pass through opening. No cuffing prisoners through this little slot. No food trays either.
