Monica set the little ceramic pot down in the windowsill, turning it this way and that, so the glossy leaves could best catch the pale Martian sun. "And what did you say it's called?" Karveth asked, peering over her shoulder at the plant.
"They're violets," she said. "Amira gave them to me as a housewarming present."
He looked around the apartment, antennae moving in slow consideration. "It's warm enough." She laughed.
"It's a figure of speech."
"I see." He looked at the violets again, their soft streaked petals velvety in the light. "You have at least three shirts this color," he noted. "I'd say that constitutes a preference." She gave a vaguely sheepish shrug.
"What can I say? I've always liked purple." She looked at him, extending a pale blue fingertip to delicately touch one of the flowers. "Though these days, I think I like blue better."
He looked at her sidelong, a little smile pulling at the corner of his mouth. "You know my policy on flattery," he said with faux sternness. She returned the look with studied innocence.
"It'll get me whatever I want?"
"Exactly."
They shared a teasing smile, and she reached for the pot, giving it another slight turn. There must have been a tiny chip on the rim; it caught on her finger and she hissed softly with pain. Karveth took her hand, turning it gently to reveal the thin line of bright red on her forefinger.
"Iron-based blood," he mused. "It makes for a lovely color as well." He pressed a soft kiss to the small wound. "But it's better when you keep it inside your skin."
"I try to." She looked down at her hand in his, pink human skin against Andorian blue. "Maybe this is why I've always liked purple," she said quietly.
"It is a blending," he remarked, equally soft. "Like us, perhaps?"
"Yeah," she said, smiling. "Yeah, I think so."

I swear I will start posting things that have actually gone through their final firings soon, but here’s another wip for the books. Found this really cool shop on Etsy that has all sorts of super adorable and wonderful ceramics, and my mind was blown by moth sculptures you could hang on the wall. So decided to give one a try and first painting attempt was of a Ceanothus silkmoth.
The Etsy shop is: https://www.etsy.com/shop/KaelCeramic
Not quite the right shade of red, but really excited to see how this fellow comes out, and was my first time in literally forever using an underglaze pencil for the detailing. Used nichrome wire for some not as floofy antennae ʚїɞ

[ID: 5 digital drawings depicting various original characters. The 1st features a dark-skinned man with water dreadlocks, water patches on his body, and even his right leg dissolving into a stream of water. He's called Marquel, wearing casual beach wear and smiling as he poses in front of a plain white background, while his all-water form is shown to his right. This form, shown to use a jar to maintain a bit of stability, has a large formless head with a kind face and uses water erupting from holes in the ceramic as limbs. The next image features a faceless, humanoid creature with black pen ink making up his entire body, with a large feather emanating from his head, mimicking a ponytail, and stacked orbs of ink resembling antennae upon his head. He wears a pink striped dress, gas mask, and tall boots. The 3rd drawing is a simple colored sketch of a walrus character, with long sword blades replacing their teeth, fingers, and fins. An eyepatch covers their left eye. The 4th artwork has a rabbit-looking creature grinning at the audience, with black and white fur, a collar of white fluff circling his neck, and red stripes decorating his ear tips, feet, and face. The last image depicts a white, fluffy creature with closed eyes, a worried expression, and a black flower decorating their front. They don't seem to be based on any specific animal, and are posing in front of a flower-pattern grey background. End ID]

WJR Radio Transmitter Building, ca.1934. Detroit, Michigan - designed by Cyril Schley .
The design by a Detroit architect who worked with C. Howard Crane exhibits all the hallmarks of the zigzag Art Deco style. The buildings jagged silhouette is stepped back to a central tower. Large rectangular brick piers create a symmetrical and balanced composition on all sides. Bays between the piers are filled with glass blocks.
The most striking feature is the use of colorful ceramic tile on the facade. Geometric patterns in red, yellow, green, and black surround the doors and windows. The letters WJR were written in metal and neon down the single-mast antenna tower, which rose 733 feet, higher than any structure in the state at the time.

Prompt Practice
1. This story involves an intelligent bookworm, a laboratory, a dead body, and a huge mistake.
Detective Silver
She never spoke about her origin story. How do you explain that you were not exactly human? The world was not ready. She doubted the world would ever be ready. It continuously haunted her in the dark hours of the early morning when her primal appetite urged her to do the unthinkable.
When the urge to feast gnawed within, she retreated the place of The Beginning.
Smooth black surfaced laboratory tables held glass vials and flasks filled with unknown liquids. Many had evaporated into strange glowing crystals after years of abandonment. The chemist responsible for their creation once held great influence, testified by the faded awards and diplomas framed along the walls. Now he was a pile of bones swept into a dusty corner.
Her nose wrinkled at the memory of slime covered flesh between her teeth. The teeth had been new. Some creation of a chemical byproduct, a source of DNA, and a curious little insect that investigated the wrong corpse. Her first memory in a strange body. The fragmented part of the Before the Beginning recalled only the foraging for food.
The hunger pains wrenched her soft guts into terrible knots.
Making her way to the bookshelves required navigating the rubble left by the explosive event that must have killed the chemist. Broken ceiling tiles and chunks of concrete formed a little maze of cleared path from the many previous visits. Tiny steps one way. Skirting a debris pile ready to collapse. Tip-toeing through shattered ceramics. The strange muscle memory tingled the back of her brain on realizing how she missed skittering from shadow to shadow in search of food.
Instincts constantly urged her to seek dark, damp places. Here in this refuge she could remove the tight bun and let the silvery blue hair flow free. Long antennae sprang forward, brightening her world with thousands of senses. Every temperature and wind change guided her movements. A fabulous array of scents drew her closer to the musty pages.
Her appetite surged. The forbidden treat now in reached.
Books were treasures. The source of knowledge and comfort. She devoured every word on every page she ever encountered. Ever since the Beginning. Everything she could possibly learn about the new world she became part of came from books. Beginning with these.
She plucked a thinning equipment manual from the shelf and flipped through the tattered edges, smiling at the old borrowing scars. Ripping out a yellowing page piled guilt upon guilt at destroying these sources of information.
Yet savoring the ancient tastes eased her craving for home.
At least temporarily.
The bright ringing alarm announced a disruption in the peace. “Detective Silver, here.”
“A report came across the radio of a suspicious death at the Marquee.”
“On my way.” She tucked the book back onto the shelf for the other bookworms that roamed the rubble. She popped the remaining piece of paper into her mouth to free up her hands for securing her hair and antenna. Her job demanded attention.
!!! Feedback for improvement welcome !!!

so sorry if this is controversial but there is something about ceramics that just cannot be unlocked without at least a hint of lesbianism in the touch. straight ceramics feels a bit soullless maybe this is just me and my particular antennae but i can just tell ok?

All I'm going to admit to in last night's dream is that a stone/crystal pendulum, a pair of matching tumbled stones, and a pinch bowl filled with water was involved.
The Demonstrator referred to the pair of stones using a term that is so loaded (pun intended) that it would be nigh impossible to have a good faith discussion about it in public.
The key thing is that while the pendulum was held as still as possible over the water, it was not to be observed with the naked eye. For lack of better words, it served as an antenna to the matter.
But, the dream was garbled because so many preconceived notions intruded into the demonstration. I didn't realize how many One True Ways™ I had accepted about pendulum use until they all rose up to defy the Demonstrator.
I have the pendulum. I have two sets of matching tumbled stones (to the point that even though they were received randomly, each set looks to have been cracked from the same rock). And I have small votive glasses and ceramic pinch bowls.
What I don't have is how the Demonstrator put everything together and for what purpose. I feel like a visitor at a museum reading the card that says, "For Unknown Ritual Purposes".
