I'm excited to finish writing Chapter 28 because at the end of Chapter 27, Buck, Eddie and Chris had just arrived in Philadelphia, PA so that Buck could say goodbye to his friend, Malone who passed away in December. Also, he wants to visit Daniel's grave again but this time he brought his husband and their son with him. While they're in PA, they're going to Hershey and Lancaster but is it possible they'll bump into the Buckley parents while they're visiting museums and eating Hershey's chocolate? When they were planning the trip, Eddie hoped they wouldn't but with their luck, it's possible. Buck planned a celebration for Eddie while they're there since he received his Paramedic Certification Certificate but Eddie's the only one who doesn't know about it.

When they return to L.A., of the four cardiac tests Dr. Salazar scheduled for Buck, he'll have two left to complete but the Diazes are worried since he fainted during the tilt table test and they're wondering if there are any long-term effects to his heart after the lightning strike. Additionally, all three members of the Diaz family are supporting one another as Buck continues to face the fact that he died last year and as he proceeds to deal with all 7 stages of grief. He was on the bargaining stage at the end of Chapter 27 but the next stage is depression so how will he deal with it, especially with everything else that's going on in their family?

Here's a snippet from Chapter 28 of Buck and Eddie having an emotionally intense conversation early in the morning while they're slow dancing.

It’s 4:44AM as they slow dance inside of their bedroom to the music playing through Buck’s iPhone 13 Pro Max’s speakers. As he maintains eye contact with his husband, he hiccups on a sob and whispers, “Ed—die?”

“Yes, amore mio?”

“Am I… every—thing that you were looking for?”

After the words leave his lips, he tries to prevent the sob from escaping his throat and he fights it with everything he has in him because he needs to hear his husband’s answer. He hopes he’s been everything Eddie was looking for after they met more than six years ago when they became work partners. Tomorrow marks their one-month wedding anniversary and he hopes he’s been a great husband to him. He hopes Eddie remembers every time they laughed and cried together, every time they made love and all the hundreds of other physically, emotionally and romantically intimate moments they’ve shared.

If he dies while lying on the table this morning with his cardiologist and her team surrounding him, he hopes the universe will be kind to his husband and their son because they’ve already been through so much and he doesn’t want them to suffer anymore.

Eddie’s breath catches in his throat at the question because Buck’s his husband, his amore mio, his everything and he can’t live without him. He quickly unwraps one of his arms and like flood levees react when they’re breached, his tears start falling from his eyes but he doesn’t wipe them away.

He whisper shouts, “YES! AMORE MIO, YOU’RE MY EVERY—THING! YOU’RE MY ANGEL, BUCK AND I—I CAN’T LIVE WITH—OUT YOU.”

They lean their foreheads together as the singer’s melodic and soulful voice fills their bedroom with sounds of eternal love.

After a few moments, they lean back and Buck presses his lips against Eddie’s in a crushing kiss that’s so passionate Eddie gasps and moans and they get completely lost in it.

As his husband licks into his mouth, Eddie places his hand on the back of Buck’s neck and applies a little bit of pressure to deepen it and when he does, Buck makes that high-pitched noise Eddie loves to hear. It’s not just the sound of it that sends shockwaves through his body, it’s the fact that there’s a possibility this could be the last time he hears it.

Their kiss continues until they need to come up for air and when they do, Buck exhales and after he notices the time, all his fears bubble up to the surface because he’s afraid of everything that’s going to happen today. He’s afraid of being put under anesthesia because he might not wake up and if he dies, he’ll leave his husband here all alone and he’ll leave their son too.

He’s also afraid this will be the last time they'll have a chance to dance.

What’s going to happen today that has Buck and Eddie afraid of losing each other? 🥹

Will this be the last time Eddie gets to hear that high-pitched noise Buck makes when they kiss? 👀

Will Buck and Eddie get the chance to dance again? 😭

Fic Summary: Months after Buck and Eddie were hit by the same lightning strike; they’re still struggling with the aftermath of it. But before they make their love confessions, they’ll spend time getting to know themselves as individuals first. Eddie learns to enjoy the simple things in life as he participates in activities on his own and with new friends while Buck learns the rest of the 31-year-old deep dark family secret about his conception and birth. Their journey to forever is still a work in progress but once they finally admit they’re in love with each other, everything that follows their love confessions will be cataclysmic.

Chapter Summaries

Chapter 1 - Eddie makes a new friend while Buck receives devastating news regarding the sperm donation he made for Connor and Kameron.

Chapter 2 - Buck does a lot of research to learn more about the abnormalities found in his red blood cells and Eddie starts a new therapy journey that’s all about him and not the traumas he’s experienced.

Chapter 3 - After more than a month, Buck and Eddie finally spend time together outside of work but it doesn’t end well and they part with a lot of uncertainty regarding their places in each other’s lives.

Chapter 4 - Eddie has a few realizations about his life which causes him to consider moving back to El Paso, TX while Buck continues to be reminded of his past which causes him to take an impromptu road trip across America.

Chapter 5 - Both Buck and Eddie have difficult conversations with their parents and Buck finally learns the truth behind the reason why his mother despised him while Eddie finally tells his mother about the way she tries to control him.

Chapter 6 - More than two weeks after Buck pushed Eddie away after suggesting they needed a break; Eddie decides to try again. Eddie’s there for Buck when he’s at his worst just like Buck was there for him when he was at his worst and he won’t let Buck give up.

Chapter 7 - After Buck’s mental breakdown, Eddie has his back the same way Buck had his when he had his own breakdown more than a year ago. They share several vulnerable and emotionally intimate moments with one another and they begin to realize their small, sweet and caring gestures matter just as much if not more than any grand gesture ever could because these are the foundations of a long-lasting love relationship.

Chapter 8 - Buck, Eddie and Chris all have their own therapists and during their sessions, they reflect on their pasts while they’re in the present so they can prepare for their future together as a family.

Chapter 9 - Buck and Eddie are there for each other when Buck has to testify as a witness during the trial. But by the end of it, they’ll both realize their individual and shared traumas are going to keep resurfacing until they talk about them, deal with the fact that they’re in love with one another and face the fact that they can’t live without each other.

Chapter 10 - As Buck and Eddie finally begin to confront their past traumas, they realize how much they need each other to fill in the gaps of their memories. Additionally, the universe screams at them for what appears to be the one hundredth time so Buck can realize he doesn’t have to ‘find it’ because he already ‘made it’ and Eddie’s reminded tomorrow isn’t promised and he doesn’t have to die alone if he doesn’t want to.

Chapter 11 - A “virga” or dry thunderstorm is in the forecast but once the rain starts, the thunderstorm happening outside won’t be able to match the storm brewing inside between Buck and Eddie. It’s the universe’s final scream and when the tumultuous winds begin to blow, they’ll have one last chance to hold onto everything they’ve built over the last six years or they’ll lose it all forever.

Chapter 12 - Buck and Eddie have always shared a deep physical attraction and an emotional intimacy that’s unmatched but now that they’re in a relationship, they’re learning how to navigate the romantic intimacy they’ve been waiting for six years to explore. The love they have for each other is a once in a lifetime, soulmate, love of their lives type of love that transcends space and time.

Chapter 13 - While navigating the newness of their romantic relationship, Buck and Eddie take advantage of every moment they spend together. As their individual lives, people from their pasts, time constraints and the possibility of losing each other again make attempts to interrupt and interfere with their journey to forever, they love, care for, support and hold onto each other even tighter to withstand it all.

Chapter 14 - Buck and Eddie can see the lights at the end of the tunnels regarding the results of Buck’s Cancer Screening along with everything else they’re dealing with. But are the lights they see exits to the tunnels or are they headlights on different runaway trains that are speeding towards them in an effort to interrupt their forever?

Chapter 15 - Buck and Eddie have known they were exactly who the other one wanted in a partner since they met six years ago when they agreed to have each other’s backs. They’re in a romantic relationship, they’re both preparing to ask the other one to spend forever with them and by the end of the seventh week into their relationship, together they will plan their most important and greatest adventure for their future.

Chapter 16 - As Buck and Eddie begin to prepare for their marriage ceremony that will take place in Rome, Italy in December 2023, they start planning their first international adventure as a romantic couple. Even though Chris is still the only person they’ve told about their relationship, several people who know them have already witnessed the love they share and as the days continue, others will witness it too.

Chapter 17 - As Buck and Eddie get closer to departing Los Angeles for their international adventure, a moment in time will remind them; life is fragile, tomorrow isn’t promised and every second of everyday should be cherished because everything can change in an instant. The result of that realization will cause them to hold onto each other even more.

Chapter 18 - As Buck, Eddie and Chris prepare for family gatherings before and during the Thanksgiving holiday, the “Santa Ana Winds” start to blow and all sorts of expected and unexpected familial drama ensues.

Chapter 19 - As Buck and Eddie get closer to their wedding day, the universe begins to align everything so that some of their parent and children's relationships are strengthened while others come to an abrupt end.

Chapter 20 - With only 14 days remaining until Buck, Eddie and Chris depart Los Angeles, CA traveling to Rome, Italy, for their first family adventure, an early morning conversation about “tying up loose ends” helps Buck and Eddie realize there are still several things left unfinished on their ‘To Do’ lists. The question is will there be enough time to complete all of them?

Chapter 21 - Buck, Eddie and Chris are finalizing their ‘To Do’ Lists, double checking their itineraries and packing their suitcases in preparation for their trip to Europe so they can board their flight that departs Los Angeles, CA on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 3:25PM.

Chapter 22 - While Buck, Eddie and Chris spend the first 8 days of their European family adventure in Italy, their primary reason for going will be fulfilled as well as several others they hadn’t considered or anticipated.

Chapter 23 - As the Diaz Family continues their Italian family adventure, they’ll say, “Ciao” or hello and goodbye to a lot of things almost immediately after they become an official and legal family.

Chapter 24 - After Buck, Eddie and Chris arrive in London, England on December 24th; the Diazes immediately start preparing to spend their first family Christmas together. During their stay, each of them will hear a few choice words that will be the life raft to get them home to complete their searches to be seen and to be found.

Chapter 25 - After spending more than two weeks in Europe, Eddie, Buck and Chris are back in Los Angeles and they’re getting ready to attend Maddie and Chimney’s New Year’s Eve party. During the event, they have plans to make two surprise announcements but the question is, who’s really going to be surprised, the Diaz family or their found family at the 118?

Chapter 26 - Buck and Eddie are once again faced with their greatest fear of losing each other but this time it could be permanent and if it is, then they won’t be able to spend the rest of their lives together.

Chapter 27 - After Buck resumes therapy, he’ll continue to face the fact that he “DIED” in March 2023 and during those sessions, he’ll learn about the 7 stages of grief. As he continues his healing journey, Eddie will be right by his side just like he promised and the Diaz family will start to deal with their three minutes and seventeen seconds loss as a family.

sneak peek: untitled Americanized 28 Days Later bethyl fic

“HELLO?!”

And once again, Beth was met with nothing but dreadful silence.

She heaved a sigh and began trekking up the seventh set of stairs, her thighs aching and her legs heavy. Daryl made a frustrated sound and passed by her, murmuring under his breath so she couldn’t decipher his words as he took the lead towards the next landing. She followed numbly.

What if there wasn’t anything at all waiting for them at the top? What if he’d been right all along, and all they ended up finding was another empty apartment? Or a sight similar to her dad’s bedroom back at the farm? Had she really fought so hard just to waste their time chasing after something that was too good to be true?

Did it even matter, though? Was it truly wasting time when everything else they did every single day was nothing more than killing time? Was it any worse than sleeping in an abandoned Journeys night after night and trekking through the same empty streets day after day?

At least she’d know. At least she could say she’d fucking tried.

And then, halfway up the ninth set of stairs with Daryl half a staircase ahead of her, an ominous sound reached their ears. It echoed through the stairwell, reverberating loudly throughout the lobby below.

The screams of the infected. The messy and clustered shuffling of feet, immediately followed by the clang and clatter of multiple hands against metal—bodies upon bodies shoving and forcing their way through, clambering desperately over the mountain of shopping carts. Metal clashing against metal as the giant obstacle slowly disentangled and fell apart. Heavy, purposeful footsteps hitting the stairs. Climbing up and up. Straight towards Beth and Daryl.

They both recognized it at the same time, and Daryl whipped his head around to meet her gaze with the same wide-eyed look of shock that was surely mirrored on her own face. She spared no more than a second to glance over the railing of the stairs, down towards the way they’d come—she could already see the shadowed forms of several infected racing up the stairs, screaming and flailing their arms, outreached for something they could only smell and hear.

“Fuck!” Daryl cursed, picking up speed as he climbed the stairs ahead of her.

“Oh shit, oh shit,” Beth gasped out, forcing herself to climb the stairs after him even faster, desperate to catch up. Her legs were already burning and aching from the climb.

But she could hear the infected barely three floors below, trailing behind and rapidly catching up. Their feet pounded loudly on the stairs, their wails echoing throughout the entire building. The adrenaline kicked in and she sped up, but it was no use.

She was still an entire staircase behind Daryl, and he was only climbing quicker and quicker. Without her.

She glanced back over her shoulder as she reached the eleventh landing and, to her horror, saw the first of the infected leading the pack, rounding the corner at the landing just two floors below—eyes red, face covered in blood, legs pumping. She looked forward again and saw Daryl further ahead. He hadn’t even spared her a glance backward.

“Daryl—wait!” She cried out. “Wait for me! Please! Please! Don’t leave me!”

His only response was, “C’mon! Hurry up!”

Her legs pumped harder, pushing her up the stairs and after him. Another staircase. Then another. And still, another after that. When would it end? Would they ever be safe?

She could hear the infected gaining on her, so much faster than she could ever be, their screams growing louder, their footsteps growing closer.

Was Daryl going to leave her behind? Was he really going to sacrifice her for his own safety?

Could she really blame him if he did?

TWIN RUNES - FAQ

What exactly is this AU about? Twin Runes is essentially a comedic crossover AU between the universes of Deltarune and Undertale. No fancy nicnacs. Just the characters being their chaotic selves. But there might be some darkness lurking up ahead...

When is the next comic? The comic updates most Sundays at 6:30 PM Central European Time.

Why is this AU called Twin Runes? The name is more or less a play on the typical naming format of most AU's by featuring the "Runes" part. There are no literal Twin Runes. The whole name is more of a stand in for Undertale and Deltarune as parallel worlds. Hence the "Twin" part.

When does Twin Runes take place? This AU takes place between a hypothetical Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 of Deltarune. On the Undertale side of things, it takes place post neutral route just as Frisk was about to deliver Undyne's letter to Alphys.

Is the player a thing in this AU? The player lost control over both human children as soon as Frisk entered the world of Deltarune.

When Chapter 3 and 4 are released, will it affect the story? Any chapters after Chapter 3 won't affect the story in the grand scheme of things. If possible, I might make a reference to Chapter 3, but all in all Twin Runes created a new timeline so to speak.

What's up with Kris' and Frisk's hair? The red bits of their hair is more or less a representation of their souls. That in turn is also why Chara doesn't have that feature. They are soulless. It's a stylistic choice.

What's that thing on Kris' chest? It's a scar they got from tearing out their soul.

And why do they have weird lines all over their body? Both Kris and Frisk's anatomy resemble that of ball-jointed dolls. They appear just as markings across their bodies. Think of them as elaborate birthmarks. Kris and Frisk are still made of flesh and blood, but are in fact hypermobile. The reason as to why they do is still a little secret :) People here like to refer to these markings as "puppet limbs". You can get a better look at them and the scar in this artwork

Why does Kris have braces? This is why:

Why is Dark World Frisk green? Frisk changes their main sweater colors with Kris when they enter the Dark World.

Can other ghosts see Chara? (pre Darkner transformation) No, only Frisk and Kris are able to see Chara.

IS KRIS NOW FRISK'S COUNTERPART OR CHARA'S???? :)

So, was Chara in the locket all along? No, Chara possessed the locket to become a Darkner.

Where are Jevil and Spamton? Are they in Castle Town? The Fun Gang have already fought these two in the previous chapters and added them into their inventory. Outside of that little dream sequence, neither will be making an appearance.

Is anyone from Undertale Yellow gonna make an apperance? Outside of a tiny cameo from Clover (that has no greater bearing on the story) no one from Undertale Yellow is going to make an appearance.

Is (insert character here) gonna go to the Dark World/underground? With the way the story is going to play out, only the main group will be heading to this new Dark World. The rest of the story will be taking place there.

Is the Group Project miniseries canon to Twin Runes? It was made before Twin Runes was conceived and before I had any idea I would make a series. It is it's own self-contained story. So it is NOT canon to Twin Runes, but You can read it here: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6

How did you come up with the idea of Twin Runes? Twin Runes is an offshoot of a separate script I wrote. It's a similar concept but turned on its head. The funny moments in that script made me just continue what now is the start of Twin Runes. I pretty much just wanted to see if I am actually capable of drawing a comic to begin with. So... in a way Twin Runes is my first attempt at a comic ever. If I ever finish Twin Runes, then I know I can tackle turning that mammoth project of a script into a comic too. In the grand scheme of things these two projects are sister series. They have A LOT in common and even share similar plot elements. When Twin Runes is over you will automatically also know certain mysteries of The Other Script.

What is The Other Script? As of this moment I call The Other Script: "Lost in the In-Between". At its core it's an inverse of Twin Runes. I.e. Kris falling into the underground and being aided by Frisk on their quest to return home. The story and jokes are a considerably more grounded than in Twin Runes and so are the characters. Though they do have their moments from time to time. The overall mood of that script is a lot darker in nature and it's a 200+ page passion project of mine.

Am I allowed to make fanart? ABSOLUTELY! You are very welcome to make fanart if you feel like it. Please let me know if you do by tagging me, so I can share it with everyone to see so that you get the appreciation you deserve :)

Can I use the funny faces you draw for memes or for private stuff with friends? That's what they're here for :)

Is there x ship in this comic? The focus of the story is not on shipping. If it's in the game it will very likely be mentioned or brought up, but that's about it.

What pronouns do you go with for the human children? I try to stick as close as possible to the games so I use THEY/THEM FOR ALL OF THEM WITHOUT ANY EXCEPTIONS.

Here's a snippet from Chapter 28 of Buck and Eddie having a conversation while they're in bed in their hotel room in Philadelphia, PA.

They're lying in bed facing each other and Buck decides to ask the question he's been wanting to ask since Tuesday. “Can I ask you a question?”

“You know you can ask me anything. What would you like to discuss?”

He unwraps one of his arms, lifts his hand and cups his cheek. “First, I want you to know how proud I am of you.” After the words leave his lips, he closes the millimeters of space between them and he places a kiss onto his lips that’s soft, tantalizing and filled with love and devotion. When he pulls back, he continues. “Babe… from September to December, you worked hard to pass your Paramedic Certification Course, you accomplished your dream and me and Chris wanted to celebrate your achievement with you again. I know we did it back in December after you finished your final exam but you’re officially a paramedic now and that’s important.”

Eddie nods as he remembers everything they did earlier in the day to celebrate. With a smile on his face, he replies, “Thank you for the cake, the song and for the tour at the Giant Center”.

“You know you don’t have to thank me. We wanted to do all of it just for you, Eddie because you deserve it.” He takes a moment to prepare the next part because he knows how his husband internalizes everything and he wants the next thing he says to land properly. “You becoming a paramedic is huge and extraordinary but we didn’t know you received your official certificate until I found it inside of one of the drawers in our credenza. Um… you didn’t tell us about it but do you want to talk about why you didn’t mention it?”

Eddie sighs as the internal conflict he’s felt since it arrived last week increases. “When it was delivered last Friday… I opened and looked at it but…” He shrugs his shoulders as he tries to think of the words, he wants to use to describe how he felt.

“But what?”

“With everything we have happening right now... it all seems so far away and I’m wondering if I should…”

He interrupts him and whisper asks, “If you should what? Eddie, please don’t say you’re thinking about stopping.”

How is Eddie going to respond to Buck's question? 👀

Is he really considering giving up his dream of becoming the Critical Care Paramedic of Los Angeles County? 🙃

This may be the last chapter for a few days as we’re approaching the end of the story rapidly and I haven’t finished editing it yet lol. I apologize for leaving it off with a cliffhanger but I want to make sure the end is perfect before posting it. Life’s been busy this week so I haven’t had the time to finish it the way I want to.

Content Warnings - Injury, death, medical issues, I promise Finnick isn’t being stupid this time lol

The next week was full of recovery. You slowly regained your strength and were able to try solid foods again. The doctors polished all your scars off, including the one on your face from your games, at your request. You wanted nothing left to remind you of them.

You started physical therapy, as well as regular sessions with Dr. Aurelius. He allowed Finnick to join you, realizing you felt more comfortable with him nearby. You still had to use a walker to get around, but you were making progress.

A few weeks after the war ended, Coin called all the victors into a meeting. There were barely any left, mostly due to the war.

“I’ve called you all here for a very symbolic vote,” she states. You don’t like where this is going.

She proceeds to pitch her idea for a hunger games featuring capital children. There are mixed reactions from the remaining victors, with some believing the idea to be fair and others believing it to be cruel. Votes are cast around the room and it finally comes down to Katniss.

“I get to kill Snow,” she tells Coin, who agrees to this proposition.

“Then I vote yes,” she states. “For Prim.”

You can’t even process what this means. Another games? Was Coin out of her mind? You finally realized what you had been denying all along, as long as Coin was in charge, you would never be free.

Finnick brings you back to your shared room after the meeting. You allow his touch but still flinch away at everyone else. Dr. Aurelius had been working with you on that but it’s hard to undo the trauma of many years.

“I just want to go home,” you tell him.

“You have to stay here for a bit,” he explains. “District 4 doesn’t have the resources for your treatment. Once you are better I promise you can go back to 4.”

“What about you?” you ask him. “Are you staying?”

He hesitantly shakes his head.

“I have to go to 4 for a few weeks but I’ll come back as soon as I can,” he states. “Johanna will be here with you in the meantime and I’ll call every day.”

“You’re leaving?” you ask, dumbfounded by his response.

“I promise it’s for a good reason,” he says, squeezing your hand. “I wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t important.”

“When do you leave?” you ask.

“In two weeks,” he responds. “I’ll be here for the first bit of your treatment and return before it’s over. Then we will both go back to 4 together. Do you trust me?”

“Always”

That afternoon Finnick helps you walk out onto the avenue to stand next to the other victors. Snow was finally falling, and you were both alive to witness it.

Standing in front of all the capital people made you uneasy. What did they think of you? Were they going to hurt you?

You’re lost in your thoughts when suddenly the crowd erupts into chaos. You look up to see Coin lying dead on the podium, an arrow in her heart. A mob of people begins rushing towards Snow, eager to kill him.

Finnick quickly scoops you up and carries you away from the commotion. When he finally sets you down, you ask what happened.

“Katniss killed Coin,” he states. “Snow is dead.”

He has to take you back to your room before you have a breakdown. What evil creature was going to seize power of Panem next? All of this was too much.

You end up collapsing on the floor of your room, shaking uncontrollably.

Chapter 2 ->

“Let the sun kiss your skin softly.”

It was a sunny day. The sun kept shining in your eyes, and you had to shield yourself with your hands.

You held your hands out to the sky, as if touching it, but only the wind visits your hand. That is practically the sky, after all. Air. Wind. Moisture. You curl your fingers into a fist, firmly clenching it to perhaps capture the cool breeze, only to feel the warmth of your hand's skin against each other, making the cold fade away.

You end up letting your arm drop down to your side, and sigh. There was nothing better, truly, than soaking in a moment of calmness like this. Upon hearing footsteps though, you await what comes for you.

A familiar brunette appears in your view above, eradicating the sunshine and the bright blue sky. She looked down on you softly, your body laying restfully against the grass that moved along with the wind, but is flat underneath your back.

"I got us cakes," she says, sitting down beside you and putting the container down on the ground. You carefully prop yourself up with your elbows until you're sat up properly.

It was your favorite kind. Your lips turn up into a smile, and you grab the small fork while your legs settled into a criss-crossed position. Your hands reached to open the container, the corners clicking open.

The brunette watched you with amusement as you didn't hesitate to grab it. The bakery you loved was right near the park you're at, so it was the perfect time to go when it caught her eye. The man behind the counter had happily greeted her, knowing she's the partner to one of the patrons. The patron, is of course, you. But it was starting to become her new favorite bakery, too.

Wanda had also gotten a bag of warm freshly baked cookies, so she opted to unravel the top of the paper bag and take one, her cake sitting unopened next to yours.

You hum when the smell of the lovely cookies traveled to your nose, making you turn your head to her instead of your slice of cake. She was taking a bite of the cookie, the piece melting in her mouth.

Your hand leaves the fork in the cake container and goes to grab one for yourself, little crumpling noises making sound from the bag as it moved due to your hand.

While the both of you ate your delicacies, you soon space out far off in the distance of the park. Somewhere near there, someone sat at a bench with birds surrounding them and some seeds in their hand.

Beside the scene was another of a little golden retriever happily playing around with another dog, chasing each other around, and sometimes the two of them would stop, the husky looking dog teasing the other one by moving its paws forward, but not running again.

You soon stop focusing on those and turning your attention back to Wanda, but once you look at her, an irresistible smile grows on your face and you have to turn to your cake instead.

"What?" She asks, a breath of a laugh coming through the word. Wanda wondered why you would turn away so quickly. She knew she could make you blush easily, but she hasn't even said or done anything.

"Nothing, you just have some crumbs near your mouth." You shook your head, taking a spoonful of your cake to put in your mouth and look at her once more.

"Oh." Her hand goes up to wipe it off her face, but she went to the wrong side. Her eyes focused on you, visibly struggling to find it because she knows it's not gone due to simply your smile growing.

"No, the other side." You say, helping her. She gets it and looks at you expectantly. You nod, and put a thumbs up, making her reflect your smile.

"You got it." You finish off the last of your cake, and pop the lid back on. Soon your attention drifts off to the sky and the gold shining through the clouds. Wanda follows, and sees the sun behind you, making you glow like an angel.

"We should go to the lake. We can take some beautiful pictures there." She said, tiltng her head slightly, and you see her brunette hair starting to soak in the sunlight. Your eyes brightened at the sentence though, and a soft gasp comes from you.

"Yes! We should." Her lips rise up into a smile once more, and she grabs the bag of cookies before going to stand up. You follow along with your empty container and hers that still had a cake.

You turn to walk with her towards the nearby lake. Since the sunset was only just starting, you had more than enough time to arrive there. A cool breeze goes by, visiting your skins and your hairs. The water that started to come into your view properly, too, was moving with the wind.

The trees shaped the lake beautifully and openly. Not many people were around, especially because nighttime is soon coming around. But it made it all the more better.

Wanda took out her phone from her pocket and started taking some pictures. You stood by, but placed down the containers at a nearby bench and kneeled down to grab a couple small rocks to keep in the palm of your hand.

A thought to take some pictures, too, crossed your mind, but with the present reason of having forgotten to bring your camera, you decided against it.

You stood up and held only one rock in the other hand, throwing it on the water. It jumped lightly against it and splashed, until it dropped to below the water. Wanda turns her phone to you and you look at her.

"Nooo, don't take pictures of me! Look at the lake!" You point your finger towards it before throwing another rock. She moved her phone along the movement, and you assumed she was not just taking pictures, but videos. That rock went farther than the previous one.

"But you're more beautiful than the lake or the sunset!" She says, and you shake your head with a tinge of blush on your face. Once she was done, she walked closer to you with a smile and put her hand out.

You gave her the rest of the rocks in your hand except for one and she threw them. It only jumped twice and you try your hardest not to laugh or smile too wide.

"Okay, that was only my warmup." She says, looking at you with a warning before preparing for another throw. You only hum in response, knowing that it was an obvious excuse.

Wanda throws another, and it does skip farther, before it splashed entirely and disappeared into the water. The clouds had melted into the skies by now, and the last rock you had, you put into one of your pockets.

"I think that one jumped more than yours." You grabbed the cakes and turned away from the lake, now starting to walk to, perhaps, the car. The brunette was behind you anyways though, the place seemed to get darker, with the sun sinking down in the horizon.

"Nope, it did not." You say softly, glancing at her before focusing on the path towards the car once more. She raised her eyebrows at you. To be honest, the two of you got the same amount of jumps in the water with the rocks.

"Sure it did." She adds, wanting to be right. You were getting closer to the car, and she brought out her keys from her pocket, unlocking the car.

"Nope." You repeat, a playful smile on your face when she managed took a look at it at from her driver side just through the windows. She shakes her head with a smile of her own.

You pull the door handle and it opens. You sit in the passenger's side and close the door, your next move being to click the seatbelt on. Wanda had already done the same, and she's starting the engine.

The car powers up and the screens light on. She makes sure to adjust the ac temperature before moving from off the parking spot and into the main road slowly and carefully.

As the truck tires hit the road, the quiet humming of the car is added with the sound of concrete and small pebbles hitting the tires. You look out the window and watch the other cars pass by. There's people on the side of the street.

A florist, holding a boquet of flowers ready to go in a vase. Or perhaps a bought gift, as they're heading for their bicycle. The warm sunlight shone down on the florist, making out a pretty scene. Oh, dear, moments like these filled your heart with life.

Wanda looks at you softly for a second, seeing you spaced out the window. Her hand goes up to turn on the radio, finding a channel that holds good music. She focuses back on the road once she's gotten it.

The songs were calm. Perhaps even encapturing the entire feeling of today. Trees passed by. Streetlights passed by. The lights are on already, and the moon's showing up. Birds are retreating back to their houses, just as you are currently doing.

You look over to your other side, where Wanda sat, her fingers drumming, and her head nodding along the rhythm of the music. She was...so, so pretty. The car comes to a gentle stop, but you hadn't arrived just yet, only at a red light.

"I can see you staring," she says quietly with her eyes focused on the road. Her foot pushed on the pedal once more when the light turned green, and she went to make a turn.

"It's hard not to," you respond, saying only the truth. She glanced at you again, the corners of her lips raising. Buildings went by in her own window.

That is, until she goes into the driveway of your shared house. The car stops and Wanda slides her seatbelt off along with you. She turns the engine off, and the music turns into a quiet silence.

You grab the cookies and cake then open the door, getting out. She locked the car by the time the both of you had closed the doors, and she had grabbed all the items inside.

With the keys in her hands already retrieved from her pockets, she walks to the front door and inserts the key, unlocking it. You were waiting behind her on the porch, and she enters first with you at her back.

The lights in the house were flicked on by Wanda and she goes back to the front to close the door, considering your hands were full. You got your shoes off and went to place the small desserts in your hand onto the kitchen island.

When you looked behind you, the brunette was choosing a vinyl from her shelf to play, her face concentrated. She chooses one right as you went to sit on the couch, her hand carefully grabbing the disc out its sleeve to gently put on the turntable.

She plays the record and slowly drops the needle down on the vinyl, it eventually playing out a soft, mellow tune, one perfect for dancing.

When you see her walking towards you, you expected nothing more or less than an offer. You smile once she holds her hand out for you, a way to ask you to dance. You hesitate, but you gently take her hand, your body getting pulled up with your heart's answer.

She puts her hands around your waist and starts swaying gently to the music, while you settled with your head on her shoulder, your mind wandering with the thoughts of everything.

Outside, sounds of rainfall starts pattering down. The windows filled with drops of it all, but with the curtains closed you couldn't. Although the noise made it clear that it wasn't the record player, or anything else.

You looked up at Wanda, and you can see her gazing back down at you, her eyes meeting yours softly. A small smile goes on her face, the two of you ever so lost in the love you held.

She whispers softly, "I love you," and your heart did leaps in your chest. You've been together for a while, but she's never said such a sentence until this very moment. It came as a surprise.

"I love you, too." You lean back slightly to look at her more, and you can physically see the happiness that fills her face.

Fuck these things you mumble to yourself as you look in the mirror applying a final swipe of highlighter to your cheeks and collarbone.

It’s not that you hate dressing up.

You take a final look in the mirror. Your silk black dress, with a tasteful low back and modest high neck, clings to your body. Your soft curls are bouncy and full; your cheeks rosy.

That part you didn’t mind so much.

It was the mind numbing conversation that you dreaded.

The fakeness of it all.

A room full of people dying to flaunt their success, money, and power.

You had grown use to it over the years.

After all, you were the daughter of a senator.

You were nearly 30, but you felt it important to continue to show support for your father at events like this.

Plus, a little free booze and food doesn’t hurt, either.

You slip on your heels, grab your wristlet, and drape light coat over your shoulders.

“Bye, Theo! Don’t cause too much trouble while mom’s gone, k?” You coo as you pet your kitty under the chin in farewell and you walk out the door.

It was a beautiful Fall night in the DMV.

A rare night where the humidity didn’t feel suffocating. The air of the night around you was coated with a feeling that anything could happen.

The thought made you smile.

You slip into the back of the black suburban waiting for you outside your apartment.

"Hi, Tommy. Thanks for driving!"

Alone in the back of the car, you text your parents that you’re on the way.

As you hit send, another text comes through.

Joel Miller: Are you coming tonight or am I drinkin’ alone?

You grin at the thought of him asking if you’re coming tonight.

You type out a quick response, “Yep! see you soon!x” and hit send.

You fail to let yourself acknowledge that it wasn’t really the dressing up, free booze, or food that kept you coming back to these events.

Or even supporting your dad.

It was Joel.

Your dads best friend.

The car rolled to a stop in front of the St. Regis.

You step out, thanking Tommy for the ride as usual on your way out of the back seat.

He nods, “My pleasure - have fun! Tell my brother I say hi.”

"Will do!"

This 'otta be fun, you think to yourself.

The event was what you’d expect it to be.

You dripped of poise and elegance as you strolled through the room of suits, bad cologne, passed champagne, and hors d'oeuvres.

You make casual conversation with the guests around you, ensuring your dad and his initiatives shine.

Joel did the same.

He wasn’t much for events like this, but he knew how to suck it up and kiss ass when he had to.

While your dad decided to take the political route, Joel went on to become the CEO of one of the most successful construction companies on the Eastern Seaboard.

He wasn’t in politics, but you had to give it to the man. He knew how to work a crowd.

It’s a skill he picked up in the Army while serving with your dad.

He knew how people worked. Knew what to say, and when to say it.

It came naturally to him.

He knew when to impress or stay quiet, when to boast, and when to dominate in the conversation.

Maybe it was his humble upbringing in Texas, or his years of life experience on you, but whatever he was doing, you had to admit, it worked.

It didn’t take long before you found Joel giving you his signature nod across the room.

The let’s ditch these dinosaurs and go get a drink nod that he gave you at every event prior.

It was a sure thing.

Something you could always count on.

“Would you excuse me, Congresswoman Lee?” You say as you graciously excuse yourself from conversation, and you make your way down to the hotel bar.

Ugh...why are you nervous?

Joel was already at the bar.

His broad shoulders stretched the back of his green corduroy suit, salt and pepper curls combed back, and his legs spread wide over the stool beneath him.

Damn, he looks good.

Your stomach does a little backflip.

It wasn’t that you minded him in his usual attire of dark jeans, a white v-neck tee and a flannel, but seeing him like this was always a sight to behold.

His brown eyes meet yours as you glide closer to the bar, you eventually find yourself seated at the empty stool next to him.

A whiskey on ice was already waiting for you, two Luxardo maraschino cherries on top.

He knows what you like.

You can’t help but swallow the feeling that he might be good at knowing what you like in other ways, too. **

Before you know it, it’s nearing midnight.

“It’s getting late, I should probably head out,” you say as you bring the edge of the glass to your lips, feeling the cool trickle of the last sip of now-diluted whiskey roll down your throat.

The cup hits the sticky wooden surface in front of you. You push it forward, nodding to the bartender in thanks.

You swivel on your stool, both legs turned to the side, directly facing him now. You rise from the seat onto your heels, your body coming closer to him for a split second as you do.

He can’t help but notice the hitch of your dress as you stand. His posture straightens as he watches the rise and fall of your chest, now so perfectly in his line of sight.

You look down and notice you’re standing in the empty space between his legs, his thick thighs to your right and left.

Nothing about this man is small, you muse to yourself.

Your hand meets his shoulder. He stiffens at the touch, the hairs on his arm rise to attention and his grip on his glass tightens.

He gazes up to look at your face, eyes pausing on your lips.

You notice.

Maybe it’s the liquor, or the slight reaction to your touch that gives you the confidence you need, but you decide to be bold.

You lean forward, meeting his ear. Your hot breath escapes as you whisper “Thanks for the company, Mr. Miller.”

You plant a soft kiss on his cheek as your hand grazes down his shoulder over his firm bicep.

Fuck, he’s strong. Your mind wanders to other parts of him that might be just as big, just as strong.

The thought consumes you.

You notice a warmth pooling in your belly as your lips leave his cheek and your palm leaves his arm.

You step out of the comfort of the space between his legs, both hands falling to smooth out your dress.

You didn’t even notice that his right hand had somehow made it to the outside of your own thigh while standing there.

“Anytime, Darlin,” he says with a wink.

His southern charm unmoors you.

You’re starting to realize that maybe it always has.

You walk away, hips swaying, and his gaze goes dark as he watches as you leave.

Joel Miller was a smart man.

He knows you are off limits.

If he were smart, he'd leave you alone.

As he went to finish his own drink, the glint of something left on the bartop caught the corner of his eye.

You’re steps away from him now, feeling light headed and spun up at your interaction.

You could still go back, you tell yourself.

Before you know it, you’ve made it to the elevator. The arrow glows golden with a quick press and you stand there waiting.

You should go back, you internally reason with yourself again. You’re an adult. He’s an adult. So what if he’s your dads best friend?

Hell, just go back you silently scream at yourself, letting out a somewhat desperate sigh as your head tilts down.

With your gaze now down you notice your wristlet isn’t with you.

“Shit, my purse.”

You turn around to head back to the bar, and immediately collide with a hard surface.

It was him.

A hand, large and sure, meets your waist to steady you.

“Hey,” he says.

And then it hits you, the faint smell of wood chips, cinnamon and musk.

It intoxicates you further.

Little bumps cover your body and your breath hitches in your throat as his fingers graze the soft skin of your exposed back.

It was his turn to stir a reaction in you.

Your eyes pause at the center of his chest, and with his large hand still firm against your skin pulling you into him, you look up at him with soft eyes.

“Oh, uh, hi. I was just…”

Before you can continue the thought…

“Forget something?,” he asks.

He nods to his hand holding your purse.

“Oh…y-yeah, I was just going to go back,” you say, feeling the warmth rise up to your cheeks.

What is it about this man that makes you so nervous? Get it together.

“Thank you,” you say sweetly as you gently tuck a loose piece of hair behind your ear, in a full-on blush from his attention.

Your hand reaches out to grab it, and you notice his eyes rest like boulders on your exposed collarbones and the pulse below your jaw.

You feel as though he’s not looking at you, but through you, eyes drinking you up like a glass of cold water on a warm summer day.

The thought sends a spark to your core and you feel a familiar tug at your navel.

Shit. You want him.

As if you didn’t already know that the second you laid eyes on him at the bar.

As if he didn’t already know that.

A soft bing echos through the lobby as the elevator arrives and the doors slowly open.

People shuffle out of the small hoist.

The moment remains thick with tension despite the presence of other hotel guests walking past you both.

You look over your shoulder at the elevator, and back at him, getting ready to say goodnight for a final time, wishing you had enough whiskey in you to give you the courage to say what you really wanted.

How does one say “hey, I know I’m your best friends daughter, but l’d really love for you to fuck me into the middle of next week,” anyways?

It’s as if he had the same thought, but he breaks the silence.

“Getting on?"

His hand drops from your body, leaving an invisible handprint, as he nods to the now empty elevator.

You had intended to go back to your apartment for the night, but you found yourself nodding yes to him in return.

You straighten your posture in an attempt to collect your composure as you turn away from him to enter the lift.

“Good. In you go, sweetheart.”

Within a moment his touch is back on you, a large palm resting on the small of your back guiding you into the elevator.

You pause there, side by side, waiting for other guests to walk through the threshold.

None do.

The elevator doors close.

You let out a sigh, but feel anything but relieved.

The fact suddenly hits you that you are very alone in an elevator with the one and only Joel Miller.

Butterflies flip in your stomach as the doors begin to close, stickiness continuing to pool in your underwear.

Holy shit.

“What floor?” he asks.

“Yours” You whisper, directly looking him in the eyes.

“Please” You add for good measure, remembering him saying to you how much he likes a woman with manners at a dinner at your parent's house some months ago.

That’s when you see it. His want. His need.

His pupils shot open with desire.

His cock twitches in his suit pants.

You gulp as you gaze down to watch him slightly readjust himself, eyes still on you before he reaches out to the tree of buttons by the elevator doors.

His long finger pushes the worn button.

Joel Miller has 28 floors with you.
