first of all fox news is usually wildly overestimating how much violent crime happens. like. almost everyone i know who drives has had their car broken into at least once in either san francisco or oakland. it’s such a common occurrence that we’ve invented a slang term for it (bipped, as in “my friend parked in the cuts and got bipped and they stole his stereo” or whatever).

genuinely the issue is the wealth gap and the number of people without housing because nobody can afford to fucking live here. like it’s bad everywhere yes but go look at rent prices for apartments in sf on zillow and you’ll get it. tech bros fucked everything up for everybody who grew up here lmao.

i also do not live or work in the city or the town and never have so yknow. this is just my opinion as a suburban bay area native. but it’s fine. genuinely it’s fine. it’s been getting better since tesla left i can tell you that

I used to read a lot of really really dark sad whump fics pretty much exclusively. Characters getting absolutely mentally and physically annihilated in the worst, most soul-crushing circumstances possible. Lots of hurt no comfort. Lots of apocalypses. Over the past five or six years, I’ve turned to reading mostly stories about characters getting dogs and having adventures with them, or growing old together, or escaping bad circumstances against all odds. Fix-it AUs. Slice-of-life fics. I’m not necessarily a happier person. I think I just value those stories more than I did. Something something the dystopia is here something something wisdom comes with age. Dykwim
