AI and Art

One of the primary celebrated differences between humans and non-human animals is ‘Art*’.

It is exclusive to humans, it came to us with advanced neurological evolution.

For argument’s sake, some would like to say that other non-human animals, do create art too, in the form of nests or elephants learning how to paint. Well, that might appear to be true, but it deviates us from the core and purpose of art: aesthetic pleasure and communication. Animals, do not create art to enjoy the process or result, the elephants paints, simply because it has been trained to do so, they might get a reward from the keeper for this and birds create nests for survival; to attract mates, lay eggs, and live safely, they do not try to fancy their nests or reflect their idiosyncratic selves into their nests, all nests of the same bird species look the same.

Art being so sacred to humans has been dedicated for centuries by devotees to the mighty god, lovers to the ailing moon, rivers to mountains, and developers to computers.

Let’s talk about resets

I had to do one larger one, so I’ll give you the full list. This is basically an undo.

On Tumblr:

I had to undo the rename of my tumblr, and went back to Code & Canvas.

Used XKit Rewritten to replace the tag “mario breskic” with “code and canvas” for my posts.

On social.mariobreskic.de:

Renamed the “mario breskic” tag to “code and canvas” in WordPress.

Replaced the links to mario-breskic.tumblr.com with codeandcanvas.tumblr.com using phpMyAdmin

UPDATE wp_posts SET post_content = REPLACE(post_content, 'mario-breskic', 'codeandcanvas') WHERE post_content LIKE '%mario-breskic%';

Replaced the string “Mario Breskic” with “Code & Canvas” but only in posts tagged “code and canvas” using phpMyAdmin

Struck the previous changes from my changelogs on my websites and added a note that I have done so.

Made link changes on my homepage and on my bento.me, too.

Same with other socials with more link options, like Artstation, Bēhance, Facebook.

I used an AI (Copilot) to write the SQL for me.

All in all, this should get me to at least 80% of the reset. There might be something I’ve overlooked but this is alright for now.

As resets go, this one has been smooth.

I think I’ll grab a splatbook and sit down with a cup of caffeine‑free coffee.

finished this one up! gotta do a proper photograph and edit process on it but till then, a shot of the whole thing.

to answer your questions @codeandcanvas there's a mixed media thing happening here - I did a big blobby midtone watercolour painting first with colours i wanted in the undertones, and then put a LOT of oil pastel on top of those. the paper is a Stonehenge cotton rag paper, the sort often used for intaglio printmaking, very thick and absorbent, with a fine, even grain to the surface. Watercolour often brings out the grain a little so the pastels had extra texture to work with.
