If you're a UK-based engineer or professional aiming to migrate to Australia, understanding and preparing the necessary documentation is crucial. The Australian migration process requires detailed reports such as the Competency Demonstration Report (CDR), Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), and assessments through VETASSESS. These documents validate your qualifications and work experience against Australian standards.
What is a Competency Demonstration Report (CDR)?
A Competency Demonstration Report (CDR) is a critical document required by Engineers Australia for the assessment of overseas engineering qualifications. It demonstrates your engineering skills and knowledge, ensuring they align with Australian standards.
Components of a CDR:
Continuing Professional Development (CPD): A record of your ongoing learning and development activities that keep your engineering skills up-to-date.
Three Career Episodes: Detailed narratives of specific instances in your engineering career where you applied your skills and knowledge. Each episode should focus on a different aspect of your work experience.
Summary Statement: An analysis that maps the competency elements demonstrated in your Career Episodes to the competency standards set by Engineers Australia.
Each section must be written in your own words, reflecting your personal experiences and contributions. Plagiarism or generic content can lead to rejection by Engineers Australia.
Understanding RPL & VETASSESS for Australia Migration
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
This is meant for information technology specialists who do not have formal ICT qualifications but have some work experience. The Australian Computer Society (ACS) evaluates RPL applications made against actual experience to see if they surpass the minimum level necessary.Â
Key Components of an RPL Application:
Two Project Reports: Detailed accounts of projects you've undertaken, showcasing your ICT skills and knowledge.
Employment References: Documentation verifying your work experience and roles.
Skills Assessment: A comprehensive evaluation of your competencies against ACS criteria.
VETASSESS Assessment
VETASSESS is the designated assessing authority for a wide range of non-engineering occupations, including management, finance, hospitality, and trade fields. They evaluate both your qualifications and employment experience to ensure they meet Australian standards.
VETASSESS Assessment Requirements:
Qualification Assessment: Verification of your educational credentials.
Employment Assessment: Evaluation of your work experience relevant to the nominated occupation.
Supporting Documentation: Includes CV, employment references, and other relevant documents.
Proper preparation and presentation of these documents are essential for a successful assessment.
Our Guidelines for the Client
To provide you with the most accurate and effective assistance, we require specific information:
Share Your Details: Provide your updated CV, educational qualifications, certifications, and any relevant transcripts or records.
Mention Your Role in the Project: Explain your designation, responsibilities, and the nature of projects you worked on. Highlight your engineering contribution and personal involvement.
Discuss Your Working Experience: Give a chronological overview of your work history, including project duration, tools used, and outcomes achieved.
Be Specific: Generic or vague details can weaken your report. Use facts, figures, and real project data to support your experience.
The completeness and correctness of the provided information enable our CDR report writers to produce accurate reports that are original and conform to EA standards.

Your new partner is Grayson.
Heâs a weird guy.
Not necessarily a bad guy, but a weird one.
Heâs not cold, in fact heâs rather friendly. However, when you really consider it, he volunteered very little information on his personal life. Reasonable, you suppose. So long as he has your back in the field and gets his reports done, you donât need to be best friends.
Your new partner Grayson is a recent Gotham transplant. Youâd never personally been, but you werenât oblivious to how utterly mad the city was. You could hardly blame him for getting out.
Your new partner Grayson, tenses up whenever someone mentions the Batman, or any of the nutcases he fights. You donât pry.
You do your own research.
Your new partner Grayson watched his parents die. Heâd been taken in by Gothamâs favourite son, a man he seemed reluctant to speak of. Heâd had, and lost a brother, to the most deranged man Gotham, if not the world, had ever known.
You stop mentioning Gotham around him after that.
Your new partner Grayson is a weird guy, who seems constantly surprised whenever you demonstrate competency.
At first youâd suspected sexism. It wouldnât have been your first partner to have that failing.
After a few days though, you catch him being equally surprised when officer Jackson makes a connection on a string of breaking and entries, and realise that perhaps heâs just not used to the cops not being utterly reliant on a very scary angsty furry and a small child without pants.
Your new partner, Grayson, is a weird guy, who disappears sometimes. Middle of a chase heâll be gone, and you wonât see him again for sometimes as long as hours, before heâs back. More often than not, somehow through some insane luck, the perp will have been taken down by Bludhavenâs new vigilante, and tied to a lamppost for you to find. You both hated and envied his luck.
Your new partner Grayson was a weird guy⌠and he was a damn good cop.
He made connections like no one else. It was like he had some sort of sixth sense. Youâd asked him once, about how he seemed to know all he did. How he seemed to have access to a whole other database of clues you just couldnât see.
And heâd smiled that cheeky smile of his, and told you heâd been consulting an oracle.
Your new partner, Grayson, moves like nothing youâve ever seen.
Youâd initially attributed it to his past as an acrobat. The way he could simply parkour over and around anything in his way, run faster then he had any right to, chase down a perp like a bloodhound.
It was more than that though. Youâd say without hesitation that if you were in a firefight, heâs who youâd want at your side. You mustâve owed him your life three times over by now. Even in those situations though, when no one would have blamed him for the use of lethal force, he never had.
Youâd been pinned down by a smuggling ring. You, Grayson, and ten of them - all armed to the teeth.
Heâd been incredible. Superhuman, almost.
Someone had shot out the lights. Heâd told you one of the smugglers must have missed. Youâd never once believed him.
Ten smugglers. Youâd managed to knock out and cuff one, unwilling to risk taking a shot blind.
The other nine? Those had been your partner. He had them unconscious in a heap by the time your eyes had adjusted.
No bullet wounds. Heâd done it hand to hand.
You didnât know exactly what he was hiding, but you knew he was hiding something. You decided not to call him out on it. Not as long as you trusted that whatever he was using his ⌠inexplicable skills for was good.
And trust you did.
Grayson was a good man. Even knowing little about him
Which was why this betrayal hurt so badly.
âSay again?â
Youâd sat in relative silence in an unmarked police car for about half an hour on a stakeout, and Richard Grayson had just said the worst sentence youâd ever heard. Youâd never been so utterly horrified.
âPeeps popcorn.â He says, holding up the tupperware containing an atrocious biohazard, grinning from ear to ear.
âOne more time please?â you fight to keep up your faked anger, but fail in the face of that fucking smile.
Honestly, it should be some sort of crime to smile like that. Like everything would work out in the end, so long as you could keep him smiling at you.
âPeeps. Popcorn.â He says it a third time. Heâs trying and failing not to laugh at her, at the way her mouth twists and flails to maintain a frown.
He was tempted to tell her it was in vain. Heâd broken Batman, and heâd make her smile too.
Honestly, she had such a pretty smile. Not that heâd say that, she was his partner, and they needed to keep things professional.
âItâs my turn to provide stakeout snacks, and so,â he lifts the lid of the peeps popcorn balls.
âPeeps popcorn.â
She rolls her eyes, and looks out the window of the passenger side. But sheâs smiling. âIt is one of lifeâs great injustices,â she huffs âthat you can eat like that and maintain your⌠impressive physique.â
Dick feels his chest puff out a little. While he had been able to tell all along that she had a crush on him, but heâd never risk acting on it. Still, it felt nice to be complemented by her.
âSeriously, do you clock off and just do the ninja warrior course all night or something?â She muses, her head against the window, looking at him out of the side of her eye.
âNot exactly,â he replies, sitting back in his seat, bringing his foot up onto the cushion. âTry one.â he presses, poking her side with the container.
She takes one, rolling her eyes and nibbles at the neon cluster of popcorn.
âNo. no.â she gags, âoh that's nasty. Oh, it's so sweet. Why? Why Grayson. Why would you do this to me?â she asks, setting the sticky concoction on the divider between their seats.
Dick just laughs âI am determined to make you a peeps convert.â
âNever, regular marshmallows are fine.â
âPeeps are rainbow.â
âHow old are you?â
âThere is no age too old to enjoy whimsy, Detective.â he responds, biting into his own.
âBesides, are you implying that rainbow marshmallows are irregular? In this day and age? Tut tut.â
âWe are not making me out to be a homophobe over peeps!â she protests, still laughing, slightly taken aback at the audacity.
âIf you say so.â he says, stretching his arms over his head and into the backseat. Stakeouts were terrible. He was not built to sit still in a confined space for hours at a time. However, this one provided a useful opportunity he cannot afford to waste.
Not to torment her with his war of attrition for peeps supremacy - though that was fun.
He needed to be sure of something else.
âWell. You being wrong about peeps aside. I ⌠wanted to check back on a file from a few months ago. You uh⌠you didnât move the Holt murder file, did you?â
âHolt.â she clicks her tongue in thought âthe guy withâŚâ she gestures to her chest.
âThat's the guy.â
âNot knowingly. I havenât had cause to reopen it. No new leads. I tried to track down the kid⌠He didnât want a bar for me. Guess I canât blame him. I offered the help I could⌠but well⌠the last time someone helped him his dad got brutally murdered. Heâs staying in the tent city by the docks, best I can figure.â She seems to feel guilty as soon as she says it, but Dick doesnât blame her.
He had paid for that room. If he hadnât⌠who knows what might have happened?
âBut if someone moved it?â he prompts, not wanting to dwell on that gnawing guilt.
âWasnât me.â
Your new partner, Grayson, was a weird guy who ate strange and terrible foods.
He blames himself for what happened to poor Mr Holt. Because he was good to the core, and somehow that had led to something utterly twisted.
Heâs also standing on your balcony. On the 20th floor.
And it all makes sense now.
Your apartment isnât particularly nice. It was small, and frequently disorganised. Especially when you got overly invested in a case.
Youâd been texted many gifs of the conspiracy board meme by friends over the years.
Work life balance? Not something youâd ever seen much value in.
And now, your unfairly attractive new partner Grayson was in your apartment, in full vigilante getup.
You need to find a way to be normal about that in ten seconds or less, because heâs staring at you, and you're staring at him, and it's starting to get awkward.
âHello.â you eek out.
He greets you as Detective, followed by your first and last name.
Unusually formal, for him. Unless⌠unless he somehow thinks a few inches of fabric in the shape of a wingding is going to fool you.
Unless he thinks heâs got you hoodwinked.
âNightwing⌠to what do I owe the pleasure?â
He leans in the doorframe, his hands braced against its top, so he is leaning into your space without touching you, and giving you plenty of ability to step back if you so chose. You donât.
âI have reason to suspect thereâs a serial killer moving though Bludhaven. And that whoever they are, they have someone in your precinct on the payroll.â
You fold your arms, bristling.
âNot sure I appreciate the accusation.â Sure, the bludhaven police department was ridiculously corrupted. But youâd hope that your partner would have at least the trust in you not to think youâd help a serial killer.
âNo accusation.â he reassures âa request for help. I need someone I can trust inside the department. And my source says thatâs you, sherlock.â
His source? Was he kidding?
No. No he wasnât.
Oh this was madness.
This was hysterical.
He really, truly thinks that you canât know him outside of his streetwear. And heâs trying to pass it off like he doesnât know himself either.
Perhaps you should tell him you know.
But⌠Grayson and his peeps tomfoolery isnât the only one who can have fun.
âSo⌠youâre asking me to⌠what, exactly?â You prompt, unfolding your arms, willing to give him a chance.
Nightwing offers you a smile. Itâs slightly different from Richard Graysons.
Itâs just as sunny, and it makes you feel just as warm and fuzzy and giggly inside. You have to fight even harder to stop yourself blushing, given how much less this getup leaves to the imagination then his usual dress pants, shirt and tie.
But itâs a little more ⌠brazzen. Flirtatious. More⌠cocky. Sure, He was always at least a bit of a show off, but as nightwing? He was one of the most capable, incredible people alive, and he wasnât shy about it.
Oh, you were doomed. But that was a problem for later.
âIâm asking you to keep an eye on the âheartlessâ case. Holt⌠heâs not the only one and I think thereâs going to be more. And, to be blunt?â
He stands up straight, and puts an arm on your shoulder.
âItâs a big request. But you might be the only person in that station who I have real confidence in.â
You wonder what that says about his relationship with himself, but like so many things with Richard, you donât ask.
âI can do that.â
âAnd I understand that itâs dangeâ Iâm sorry, did you just agree?â he cuts himself off, staring at you.
You laugh then, just the once.
You owed him your life many times over as his partner. But as nightwing?
Since heâd come on the scene, youâd actually felt like something mattered. Like change could happen.
Like someone was willing to help the people of Bludhaven not to reap a profit, but because the system youâd once hoped to help restore was broken at its very core, and restoration wasnât the solution - reformation and fundamental change was. And you didnât know how to do that.
But then Nightwing had come onto the scene, and started kicking the asses of the worst of the worst, and you had felt like you had when youâd joined the force, bright eyed, bushy tailed, and determined to make a difference.
Before the incident. And every other day, when youâd felt that optimism slowly being crushed to death, into a fine powder and blown away in the wind.
âYeah.â you say, and agreeing to help is one of the best feelings in the world. You get to help. To make a real difference.
âBludhaven owes you a hell of a lot, Nightwing⌠seems like the least I can do is tell you if anything weird comes up.â
âRight. Thank you.â he clearly wasnât expecting this. Maybe heâd thought it would be a harder sell.
âIf I do⌠have anything for you, how should I alert you?â
He passes you a wingding. âPut this in your window. Iâll check in every few days.â
You raise an eyebrow âall your fancy tech and you donât have a phoneâ
He shrugs âphones are traceable. Plausibly just something you picked up on a case as a trinket that you âforgotâ to log in evidence left on a windowsill? Lot harder to trace.â
âFair.â you acknowledge.
âBesides.â he steps backwards onto your balcony once more âyour place is on one of my main patrol routes. Canât let anything happen to the best looking detective Bludâs got.â
You scoff, without any real offence. You know heâs only playing, and that he does, as Richard, respect your intellect more then your appearance - but you suppose as ânightwingâ he doesnât know you that well.
âI think you mean best detective full stop.â you respond, and he gives a small bow of playful deference.
âBut of course, sherlock.â
And then heâs gone.
That night, you donât sleep.
You felt so stupid. Heâs nightwing. Heâs been nightwing the whole time.
The skills. The disappearing. The way he seemed to just⌠know things.
The way he tensed whenever someone mentioned Gotham.
⌠the timing of Robin reportedly becoming a child again.
Had your new partner, Grayson, been Robin?
Had he been using the Batman's archives to solve cases? Was that his so called oracle?
⌠wait.
Was Bruce Wayne the FUCKING BATMAN?
You screamed into your pillow. You were laying awake, face down in your bed, because now you had realised far too many things in one night.
The first: Your new partner is Nightwing.
The second: Bruce Wayne might be Batman.
The third: you, enchanted by that fucking perfect smile, had agreed to help track down a serial killer stealing hearts.
The fourth: Your new partner, Richard Grayson, between his stupid snacks, the Alfred Pennyworth foundation heâs been working to get off the ground, and his work as Nightwing, will save Bludhaven, you know it to your core.
And the fifth. The worst, and scariest part of your night: You may very well have fallen in love with him.

The Analyst's Arrival || Aaron Hotchner
Summary: Request - Hi can I request a hotch x bau reader? I'm sure its been done before but I just love your hotch fics!! When Strauss hires the reader without Aaron Hotchner's approval, tensions run high. Hotch is distant and a little mean, but the reader's unwavering positivity and kindness start to chip away at his walls... Read Rest Here
A/N: Really loved writing this one. Hope you all enjoy!
Pairing: Aaron Hotchner x Female Reader,
Word Count: 4.2k
TW: Yelling, gunshots (non wounded), general CM triggers
The BAU conference room hums quietly with the usual pre-meeting chatter. Derek flicks a crumpled paper ball at Spencer who is engrossed in his latest physics journal. While JJ shares weekend plans with Prentiss. The light mood does little to ease the stiffness in Aaron Hotchnerâs posture as he stands at the head of the table with his folders organized neatly in front of him.
The door swings open and Erin Strauss steps in. It was a rare occurrence that immediately draws everyoneâs attention. You follow behind her, your confident stride belying the curious glances you receive from the team.
"Good morning, everyone," Strauss begins. Her voice pulling the room into a focused silence. "Iâd like you to meet Agent Y/N L/N. Sheâs joining us from the NYPD where she served in the Major Crimes unit. Agent L/N has a sharp analytical mind and extensive field experience which Iâm confident will be invaluable to our team."
Hotchner's eyes narrow slightly, not at you, but at the way Strauss seems to relish the surprise on his face. He had not been informed of this decisionâa move that didn't just sidestep his authority but outright ignored it. A move he hated.
As polite smiles and nods pass around the room, Hotchner remains motionless. His gaze finally landing on you. You seem unaffected by the tension your presence has stirred as you returned his scrutiny with a polite, unwavering smile.
"I'm very excited to be here and look forward to working with each of you," you spoke. Your voice steady and warm. "Iâve heard only the best about the BAU team."
"Thank you Agent L/N," Strauss cuts in smoothly. "Iâll leave you in Agent Hotchnerâs capable hands." With a final nod Strauss exits, the click of her heels echoing a stark finality to her departure.
There is a brief silence as you linger in the doorway. "Why donât we get started then?" Hotchner says. His tone more a command than a suggestion. "Morgan, Reid, can you bring Agent L/N up to speed on the current case?"
As the team dives into the details of their latest unsolved case Hotch observes you. You listen intently, asking pertinent questions that demonstrate not just your understanding but your capability to dive right into the deep end. Despite his initial resistance he can't help but admitâalbeit grudginglyâthat you seem competent.
Yet as the meeting progresses Hotch feels a gnawing sense of irritation. It isn't directed at you, but at Strauss and the situation heâs been forced into. Watching you interact with his team, a part of him wants to see what you can do. To see if Straussâs confidence in you is justified. But as the leader of the BAU and with walls built from years of leadership, admitting that will take a bit more than just a good first impression.
In the days following your introduction the BAU team falls into a familiar rhythm with you, gradually weaving you into the fabric of their tightly knit group. Spencer shares book recommendations, curious about your interests. While Morgan teases lightly, testing your sense of humor. Prentiss and JJ involve you in their lunch outings often asking about your experiences with the NYPD.
However, Hotchner maintains a professional distance. During briefings he is succinct, his interactions with you strictly businesslike. His questions about your reports are pointed and perhaps harsher than necessary. You sense his doubt. Not just in his words but in the lingering looks that question your conclusions or the slight frown when you speak up during meetings.
One afternoon you're updating the team on a profile you've been developing. "Based on the victimology the unsub is likely someone with a deep-seated resentment towards authority figures. Possibly stemming from a troubled childhood," you explain as you clicked through the presentation slides.
"Seems like a stretch without more evidence," Hotchner interrupts abruptly. His critique hangs in the air. Heavier than the typical scrutiny profiles usually receive. You notice a brief exchange of looks among the team, but they remain silent.
Despite this you maintain your composure, responding calmly. "I'll dive deeper into the case files and see if I can substantiate that with more specific behaviors," you assure him with a nod that's meant to show both your respect for his experience and your confidence in your own skills.
As you work later in the quiet of the empty briefing room refining your profile, Hotchner watches from his office. The light from his desk lamp casts a long shadow and his expression is unreadable. The easy acceptance from others contrasts starkly with his skepticism and it's clear that you have yet to earn his trust.
One evening as you're the last two in the office Hotchner approaches your desk with his usual resolve towards you. "Agent L/N, I want our profiles to be watertight. I can't have assumptions without solid evidence," he states. His voice low and firm.
"I understand, sir," you reply, meeting his gaze. "I appreciate your guidance. I'm here to learn and contribute as effectively as I can."
There's a pause, a moment where something unspoken passes between you. Perhaps it's the acknowledgment of your dedication, or maybe it's Hotchner wrestling with his own reluctance to accept change. He nods curtly and leaves you to your work.
Despite the cold front you don't let it dampen your spirit. Instead, you double down on your efforts, pouring over case files late into the night. You were determined to prove your worth not just to Hotchner, but to yourself. Your positivity and commitment slowly chip away at the team's initial reservations and even though Hotchner remains distant you start to feel like a part of the BAU family.
As weeks pass your insights during case reviews become sharper. Your suggestions more intuitive. The team begins to rely on your judgment. They sought out your opinion, and slowly, very slowly, you notice a thaw in Hotchner's demeanorâa nod here, a less critical question there.
But the wall he has built around him isn't one to crumble quickly and you know that gaining Hotchner's full trust will be a marathon, not a sprint. Still, your unwavering kindness and the diligent sparkle in your eyes during every case discussion continue to sow seeds of change. Even in the stony ground of Hotchâs reserved heart.
A couple of weeks later and Hotch finally decides youâre ready to join the team in the field instead of staying behind with Penelope. Not that you didnât like working with her you were just craving to do what you were hired to do.
The air is thick with tension as the BAU team arrives at the suspected hideout of the unsub at an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city. It's late, the darkness only broken by the beams of flashlights and the occasional flicker of police sirens in the distance. Hotchner's orders are clear and concise. His voice a calm command over the sound of rustling tactical gear.
"Reid, Y/N, you're with me. Morgan, Prentiss, take the east side. Radio if you make contact. Everyone, stay sharp," Hotchner instructs. His eyes scanning the perimeter before leading you and Reid towards the main entrance.
The warehouse is a labyrinth of shadows and echoing spaces. A place that seems to absorb sound and light alike. You follow Hotch with your senses heightened every training youâve undergone pulsing through your veins. As you navigate through a maze of crates and discarded machinery, a noiseâa soft scuffle, almost imperceptibleâcatches your attention. You signal to Hotchner and Reid pointing towards a dark corridor off to the left.
"Stay here, cover us," Hotchner whispers. His gun raised as he edges toward the sound with Reid close behind.
You position yourself with your back to a solid surface, gun aimed at the corridor. Your mind races through various scenarios, but nothing prepares you for the sight of a figure lunging out of the shadows. Heading straight for Reid with a knife glinting in the dim light.
Without a moment's hesitation you break cover, tackling Reid out of the knifeâs path. The impact sends you both sprawling to the ground just as Hotchner turns, firing off two quick shots. The unsub goes down, a groan echoing off the walls.
"Reid, you okay?" Hotchner is immediately by your side. His usual stoic demeanor replaced by concern.
"Yeah, thanks to Y/N," Reid gasps. His eyes wide with the adrenaline of the near miss.
Hotchner turns to you. His expression unreadable for a moment. Then, slowly his features soften, the corners of his eyes crinkling not with frustration, but something akin to gratitude. "Good work, Agent L/N. That was quick thinking."
Your heart pounds not just from the action but also from Hotchner's acknowledgment. "Just doing my job, sir," you manage to choke out though the gravity of the moment isn't lost on you.
As the team secures the scene and paramedics check over everyone Hotchner keeps glancing your way, his gaze lingering longer than usual. In those looks thereâs a new respect, perhaps even a reassessment of his earlier doubts about you.
Later, as the team debriefs back at the BAU, Hotch publicly commends your actions. "Agent L/Nâs instincts and bravery tonight might have saved Dr. Reidâs life and potentially others. Excellent work."
The teamâs applause is warm, genuine, and you can't help but feel a surge of pride. More than the praise itâs Hotchnerâs nod of respect towards you that marks a significant shift. It's a turning point not just in your relationship with him but in your place within the team. Your actions have not only proven your worth, but theyâve begun to dismantle the walls Hotchner had built around himself, brick by brick.
In the weeks following the intense warehouse operation the dynamic within the BAU team subtly shifts. You are no longer just the new agent. You have proven yourself as a vital part of the team. Hotchner notices the change not only in how the team interacts with you but also in his own perceptions.
One crisp autumn morning as the trees outside the Quantico offices burst with gold and russet hues, Hotchner finds himself observing you from across the bullpen. Youâre assisting Morgan with recalibrating the physical training program for new recruits. The ease with which you handle the task, balancing Morganâs strength with strategic insights, does not go unnoticed by Hotchner. There's a gentleness mixed with competence in your approach. A stark contrast to the decisive action you displayed in the field.
Later that day, you offer to stay late to help Morgan review the training schedules, ensuring they are optimized for the teamâs needs. Garcia joins in eager to add her tech-savvy touch. Hotchner overhears laughter from the office youâre sharing, a sound that is light and genuine, making him pause as he packs up for the night. The sound of friendship and shared effort makes the BAU feel more like a tight nit family and he realizes you are a big part of that shift.
During a team briefing the following week Hotch openly seeks your opinion on the psychological conditioning aspects of the training program. As you outline your thoughts by citing recent research and adaptive training methods he listens intently. The team watches this interaction, clearly seeing Hotchnerâs respect for you which influences their own views.
When the team encounters a critical situation with a string of high intensity raids you suggest an innovative tactical maneuver that saves valuable time and minimizes risk. Watching you handle the pressure with composed determination Hotch feels a significant shift within himselfâa deep-seated respect for your skills and a growing admiration for your resilience.
Itâs not just your professional competence that reshapes his thoughts but also your empathy and dedication. You take the time to ensure that the team is not only prepared physically but supported mentally. A role that enriches the team in ways Hotchner hadn't anticipated.
One evening as everyone is about to leave you pass by Hotchnerâs office. He calls you in, an impromptu gesture that surprises even him. âAgent L/N,â he begins, his voice reflecting a mix of professional respect and something more tentative. âIâve been meaning to say⌠your work, especially in these past weeks, has been exemplary. I initially misjudged you and I want you to know I appreciate what you bring to the team.â
Your response is a nod accompanied by a warm smile, but his words catch you off guard and a faint blush colors your cheeks. âThank you, sir. Iâm just glad to be here, and I really truly appreciate your guidance.â
It's then, in that quiet moment, as the setting sun casts a warm glow through his office window highlighting the blush on your face and the sincerity in your eyes that Hotchner sees something he hadn't fully allowed himself to recognize before. The softness of the light, the quiet dignity with which you accept his praise and the undeniable warmth of your smile strike him profoundly.
For a brief moment Hotchner is silent, observing you not just as a capable agent but as a person whose presence has subtly but indelibly changed the fabric of the teamâand his own perceptions. The realization that he finds you beautiful, in more ways than one, surfaces quietly but powerfully in his mind. This acknowledgment isn't just about your physical appearance but encompasses the entirety of your influence on him and the team.
As you leave his office with a certain lightness in your step. The thoughtful look on Hotchner's face mark a turning point. It's a small almost imperceptible moment, but itâs one where personal and professional lines blur slightly, hinting at deeper unspoken possibilities that neither of you may yet fully understand.
The next case up had been grueling with long hours and high stakes that left the entire team feeling the weight of their responsibilities. As the post-case debrief wraps up in the BAU conference room the team disperses, leaving behind a palpable relief mixed with the usual fatigue. But as everyone else heads out to grasp at some much-needed rest, Hotchner lingers at the conference table organizing his notes with more care than perhaps necessary.
Seeing you gathering your belongings slowly he finds the resolve to address the change he's felt brewing within him. "Agent L/N, could I have a moment?" he asks. His voice much softer than usual.
You nod, curious, setting your bag down and returning to the table. The room is quiet now, lit only by the dim lights left on for the night shift.
Hotchner takes a deep breath, his demeanor uncharacteristically open. "I owe you an apology," he starts. His eyes meeting yours. "When you first joined the team, I was... less than welcoming. I questioned your capabilities. Not because of any fault in your record or your behavior, but because I was resistant to the change you represented."
You listen, surprised by his candor, as he continues, "I've always insisted on control, on predictability. After everything Iâve been through, it seemed like the only way to protect the team, to protect my family from further loss. But I've come to realize that I was protecting myself more than anyone."
Hotchner pauses. His gaze shifting away momentarily before returning to yours, more intense, more vulnerable. "Youâve brought a new perspective to the team, a resilience and warmth that I didn't know we needed. You've saved lives, not just through your actions in the field but by being who you are. And...â he hesitates, the next words clearly weighing heavily on him, âand I find myself grateful, not just for your contributions to the team, but for the light you've brought into my life."
Your heart skips a beat at his words. The formal barriers between you melting away in the quiet honesty of the moment. âThank you, Hotch," you respond, your voice low. You were touched by his admission. "Iâve always admired your dedication and getting to see this side of you, it means a lot."
Hotchner nods with a slight smile breaking through his usual reserve. "I guess what Iâm really trying to say is, I would like to... explore this, whatever this is, with you. If youâre open to it," he adds quickly, almost awkwardly.
As the room quiets and you acknowledge Aaron Hotchnerâs feelings. Even though your elated you feel that pit of dread form in your stomach. Aaron was your superior⌠a shadow of concern passes over your face, quickly deepening into visible anxiety. "Hotch," you start, your voice carrying a mix of hope and worry that quickly spirals into panic. "What about Strauss? If things change between us... I mean, if we do this, couldnât it really complicate things? What if it impacts the team, or your position, orâ"
Seeing your distress, Hotchner steps closer. His expression softening significantly as he picks up on your escalating fears. "Hey," he interjects gently, his tone soothing. "Letâs just take a moment, okay?"
You pause, your breath shaky, caught up in the whirlwind of potential consequences that his words had unwittingly unleashed.
Hotchner reaches out slowly. He was giving you time to accept his comfort before his hands rest lightly on your shoulders. "We're not going to rush into anything," he assures you, his voice calm and steady. "Yes, there are risks, and youâre absolutely right to consider them. But weâre not in this alone. We have a team that supports us, and we have each other."
His words help, but it's the firm comforting presence of his hands, the warmth from his touch, that really begins to calm your racing thoughts. "We'll be careful," he continues. "Weâll make decisions together. I respect you too much to let this cause you any distress. If it ever becomes too much, we stop and we stay professional. Thatâs a promise."
Your breathing slows, steadied by his reassurances. Looking into his eyes you find a sincere commitment there. A steadiness that youâve always admired in him now directed towards nurturing whatever might grow between you.
Seeing that youâre still tense, Hotchner does something he rarely doesâhe pulls you gently into a hug. Itâs a careful gesture making sure to respect the boundaries but offering comfort. "Weâll handle whatever comes, together," he murmurs. "You're not in this alone."
The hug was unexpected but deeply comforting. It helps to dissolve the last of your apprehensions. You let out a slow breath, allowing yourself to lean into the embrace. You felt a sense of safety in his support.
"Thank you, Hotch," you manage to say with your voice muffled slightly against his shoulder. "I needed to hear that. One step at a time. I can do that."
"One step at a time," he confirms. Giving you a reassuring squeeze before stepping back to respect your space. "We have all the time we need."
As you both leave the conference room, your steps feel lighter. The burden of immediate decisions lifted. With Hotchâs support you feel ready to face whatever challenges might come knowing that not just the weight of the case, but also the weight of new possibilities could be shared.
In the weeks that follow your relationship with Hotchner develops quietly but deeply. Both of you are cautious, acutely aware of the professional boundaries that must be maintained in the intense environment of the BAU. Yet outside of those walls, in the small, stolen moments you find together, a new world seems to unfold. A world where you can be just Aaron and Y/N, not agents with burdens too heavy to bear alone.
You start with simple coffee dates after long shifts where the conversation drifts from case debriefs to shared interests in literature and quiet confessions about your lives outside the FBI. These moments are a revelation, filled with laughter and soft looks that linger longer than necessary. They are moments that stitch the fabric of your relationship tighter with every thread of shared vulnerability and joy.
Aaron, who has always been guarded with his emotions, finds in you an understanding ear and a comforting presence. You learn about his son, Jack, about the painful loss of his wife, and how these experiences shaped him, not just as an agent but as a man who fiercely protects those he loves. Your empathy and gentle encouragement help him navigate the lingering shadows of his past. Allowing him to embrace the possibility of happiness again.
For you, Aaron becomes the person you didnât know you needed in his strength. His steadfast nature and unyielding integrity inspire you, guiding you through the complexities of your role within the BAU. His belief in your abilities boosts your confidence and his support becomes your anchor in the turbulent sea of your demanding careers.
Together you navigate the highs and lows of life at the BAU. After particularly harrowing cases itâs Aaron who helps you decompress by taking long walks by the lake near your apartment or simply sitting together in comfortable silence. And itâs you who brings light into his evenings with Jack making sure to join them for movie nights and slowly becoming part of the family he holds dear.
The relationship does not go unnoticed by the team but the respect you both maintain at work ensures that your personal lives enrich your professionalism rather than detract from it. Your colleagues see the subtle changesâhow Aaron smiles a bit more, how youâre both more relaxed despite the demands of your job.
After a few months of dating, you and Aaron walk hand in hand along the quiet paths of a nearby park, he stops, pulling you close. The city lights cast a soft glow around you, and the world feels like itâs holding its breath. "Y/N, these past months have shown me something I hadnât dared to hope for," he says, his voice low and full of emotion. "That itâs possible to find light even in the darkest places. Youâve brought that light into my life."
You smile while reaching up to touch his face gently. "And youâve shown me that strength isnât just about holding up the world on your own, but knowing when to share the load," you reply, your heart full. "I love you, Aaron."
"I love you too, Y/N," he whispers, and as he leans down to kiss you, it feels like a promise. A promise of a future together where love and understanding can thrive amidst the chaos of the life youâve chosen.
As autumn turns into winter the relationship between you and Aaron blooms amidst the frosty edges of the season, weaving warmth into the crisp air around you. Your love, quiet but profound, becomes the silent strength that both of you draw from during the demanding days at the BAU.
One chilly December evening after a usually tough case that had stretched your limits and tested your resilience, Aaron plans something special to celebrate not just the end of the case but the life you are building together. When you arrive at his house after the long day, you find the living room transformed into a cozy winter wonderland. It was complete with soft blankets, flickering candles, and a fireplace that crackles with warmth.
Jack was at a sleepover and Aaron greets you at the door with a gentle smile dressed in a comfortable sweater that makes him look homier than ever. "I thought we could use a quiet night in," he smiles while leading you into the room.
The table is set with your favorite foods and thereâs a gentle playlist humming through the speakers filled with songs that have slowly become 'yours'. Aaron pulls out a chair for you, his manners impeccable as always, but his eyes are shining with a joy that is purely personal. As you eat, the conversation flows easilyâplans for the holiday, funny anecdotes from the day, shared dreams for the future. After dinner Aaron leads you to the couch where a blanket is draped invitingly. He sits beside you pulling you close into his side, and you nestle against him feeling the steady beat of his heart.
âY/N,â Aaron murmurs, his voice soft in the quiet of the room, âwhen I think about all weâve been through, I realize every moment led me right here, to this. To us. I canât imagine my life without you.â
You look up at him touched by the sincerity in his voice. âAnd I canât imagine a better person to share my life with,â you reply. Your hand finding his. âYou make everything... brighter. More beautiful.â
Aaron smiles, his gaze tender. âI have something for you,â he says while reaching into his pocket to pull out a small, exquisitely wrapped box. He opens it to reveal a delicate silver necklace with a pendant that glimmers softly in the firelightâa compass.
âItâs to remind us that no matter where we go or what cases we face, weâll always find our way back to each other,â he explains. His fingers brushing lightly over the pendant before fastening it around your neck.
You touch the pendant overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness of the gift. âItâs perfect, Aaron. Just like this night, like this.â
He leans in with his lips meeting yours in a kiss that is slow and sweet, a seal over promises made and kept. The rest of the evening passes in gentle laughter, shared kisses, and dreams whispered between the folds of blankets under the watchful glow of firelight and twinkling stars outside your window.

Writing Notes: The Five-Factor Model of Personality
Culture is transmitted to people through language, as well as through social norms which establish acceptable and unacceptable behaviors which are then rewarded or punished (Henrich, 2016; Triandis & Suh, 2002).
With an increased understanding of cultural learning, psychologists have become interested in the role of culture in understanding personality.
The 5 Personality Traits According to this Model
OPENNESS TO EXPERIENCE
Refers to a person's imagination, feelings, actions, ideas
LOW score: More likely to be practical, conventional, prefer routine
HIGH score: More likely to be curious, have a wide range of interests, be independent
CONSCIENTIOUSNESS
Competence, self-discipline, thoughtfulness, goal-driven
LOW: Impulsive, careless, disorganized
HIGH: Hardworking, dependable, organized
EXTROVERSION
Sociability, assertiveness, emotional expression
LOW: Quiet, reserved, withdrawn
HIGH: Outgoing, warm, seeks adventure
AGREEABLENESS
Cooperative, trustworthy, good-natured
LOW: Critical, uncooperative, suspicious
HIGH: Helpful, trusting, empathetic
NEUROTICISM
Tendency toward unstable emotions
LOW: Calm, even-tempered, secure
HIGH: Anxious, unhappy, prone to negative emotions
Applicability
The idea that personality can be described and explained by five traits (OCEAN) has important implications, as does the fact that most personality tests were constructed and initially tested in Western countries.
Western ideas about personality may not apply to other cultures (Benet-Martinez & Oishi, 2008).
2 Main Cultural Approaches for Researching Personality
Etic traits - considered universal constructs that are evident across cultures and represent a biological bases of human personality. If the Big Five are universal then they should appear across all cultures (McCrae and Allik, 2002).
Emic traits - constructs unique to each culture and are determined by local customs, thoughts, beliefs, and characteristics. If personality traits are unique to individual cultures then different traits should appear in different cultures.
Using an Etic Framework
Cross cultural research of personality uses an etic framework and researchers must ensure equivalence of the personality test through validation testing.
The instrument must include equivalence in meaning, as well as demonstrate validity and reliability (Matsumoto & Luang, 2013).
Example: The phrasefeeling blue is used to describe sadness in Westernized cultures but does not translate to other languages.
Differences in personality across cultures could be due to real cultural differences, but they could also be consequences of poor translations, biased sampling, or differences in response styles across cultures (Schmitt, Allik, McCrae, & Benet-MartĂnez, 2007).
Personality Test/Measure Used: The NEO-PI
Most of the cross-cultural research on the Five-Factor Model (FFM) and Big Five (OCEAN) has been done using the NEO-PI (and its subsequent revisions; i.e., it is an assessment tool developed to measure the 5 dimensions of personality according to the FFM) which has demonstrated equivalence, reliability and validity across several cross-cultural studies (Costa & McCrae, 1987; McCrae, Costa & Martin, 2005).
Research using the NEO-PI found support for the entire Five-Factor Model in Chinese, Dutch, Italian, Hungarian, German, Australian, South African, Canadian, Finnish, Polish, Portuguese, Israeli, Korean, Japanese, and Filipino samples, in addition to other samples (McCrae, Costa, Del Pilar, Rolland, & Parker, 1998).
NOTE
Personality tests rely on self-report which is susceptible to response bias like socially desirability responding.
To evaluate this possibility, McCrae and colleagues (2005) recruited students from 50 cultural groups and modified the NEO-PI to be in the third person (i.e., he, she, his, her):
The research participants were asked to complete the form on someone else that they knew very well (McCrae et al., 2005).
The same 5 factors emerged in this study.
These results provided empirical support for the FFM and for the use of self-report instruments when conducting cross-cultural personality research.
There was no reason for the students to respond in a desirable way because they were answering questions about someone else.

Melissa Gira Grant at TNR:
Late Sunday, a reported 20,000 people joined an organizing call quickly convened by Indivisible, a group founded to push back on Trumpâs first administration, in response to actions largely undertaken by one of his unelected lackeys, the chaotic tech entrepreneur Elon Musk. As the call maxed out its capacity, tens of thousands more watched via YouTube. Meanwhile, outside an otherwise unexciting federal building in Washington, federal workers and D.C. residents assembled. Inside, under orders from Musk (who apparently paid his way into the presidentâs good graces), a small group of young men, whose only professional experience was working for one of Muskâs or Muskâs croniesâ companies, were wreaking havoc on federal payment systems. âMusk is inside the Treasury right now with his cadre of flying monkeys, and we donât know what theyâre doing,â said Indivisible co-founder Ezra Levin on the organizing call. No one seemed to know how to stop them.
But the accounts from that small protest outside the federal building, with just a few people blocking the doorsâbacked up by chants of âThereâs a robbery in progressââput a spotlight on the scene and gave it a story. On Monday morning, as federal workers reported lockouts from their offices, more people joined. Some protesters took to the street outside the Office of Management and Budget and blocked traffic. And the next day, Indivisible demonstrators and Democratic members of Congress gathered at the Treasury Building in opposition to Muskâs ongoing takeover, which some lawmakers were by then plainly calling an âillegal raid,â in which he âillegally seized power.â When they tried to get into Treasury on Tuesday, they were turned away. âWeâre not going to allow them to steal from our people, from working-class people!â Representative Maxwell Frost said at the rally assembled outside.
In the wake of the November election, multiple news outlets ran stories suggesting that, this time, the presidentâs opposition were exhausted and inclined to sit this one out. But the fact that the National Mall isnât packed with pussy-hat-wearing women does not mean that everyone has moved on. Some may have, of course, like the group of Pennsylvania women profiled in The New York Times ahead of the 2025 inauguration, whose first experience organizing was protesting Trumpâs first term. (But, to be fair, we donât know how many people in that particular demographic have really tuned out.) The story those particular protests were tellingâa man who sexually assaulted women was in the White House, and himself was a threat to democracyâhas only gotten more grim, more all-encompassing, in the last eight years. If anything, there is too much to protest and there are too many villains, an overwhelming number of stories competing for attention and action. But protests are, in fact, happeningâand this week, more people are starting to show up.
At the same time as some lesser-known federal office buildings became sites of protest on Sunday, thousands of people across the country were turning out in opposition to Trumpâs promised mass deportations and the already-escalating ICE raids: In Los Angeles (blocking the 101 Freeway), Phoenix, Las Vegas (over several days, including hundreds outside Trumpâs hotel), Dallas, and Atlanta, among others. On Sunday and Monday, a few thousand people in Washington, D.C. and New York protested Trumpâs attempted bans on gender-affirming care for young trans people. On Tuesday, as Trump contemplated shutting down the Department of Education by executive order, students walked out of schools in Los Angeles, and members of the Chicago Teachers Union held âwalk-insâ at 100 schools, calling for protections for immigrant students, parents, and educators.
What do we know about these protests? Itâs too early to make any data-based generalizations. But based on the rapid-fire research I did for this story, including going to some of these protests (both now and in the first Trump administration), they are not primarily organized under a banner of âResist Trump.â Protests have mobilized around Trumpâs orders, but they are also targeting those who are carrying out his orders, whether thatâs responding to an ICE raid in their own neighborhood or to a hospital that is preemptively banning gender-affirming care. Many of these same protesters, not coincidentally, remained active no matter who was in the White House.
Their communities did not see the Biden years as a victory but as a possible reprieve. That reprieve didnât materialize: Biden didnât brand his deportations as Trump did, and they werenât media spectacles, but by the numbers available, he removed as many people from the United States as Trump did in his first term. For trans people, who Biden did at least mention in some speeches and whose rights he backed in a number of executive orders, almost all of that has been undone by two weeks of Trump. The Biden years also saw a constant onslaught of attacks on trans people at the state and local level. There was nothing to sit out. Maybe, to those who deemed protesters âtired,â this resistance doesnât look like what they expected. Perhaps they donât see protests led by immigrants and trans people as part of the resistance, or see these as side issuesâeven though those are the communities Trump is specifically targeting.
The resistance to Tyrant 47 feels and looks different from Autocrat-in-Chief Trumpâs first term. #Resist47 #ResistTrump

Katara wouldâve been such a good diplomat (itâs canon)
everyone rightfully hates on the ATLA comics because the politics are baffling and the characterization is even more soâŚbut if thereâs one thing we can take away from the dumpster fire that is The Promise, itâs that Katara was BORN to be a diplomat and an international force for peace, okay? Especially since her besties, the Avatar and the Fire Lord, arenât actually very good at this.
If you havenât read The Promise, the Wikipedia summary is pretty good. The TL;DR is that Zuko and Kuei agree that the Fire Nation colonies need to be returned to the Earth Kingdom. The colony of Yu Dao is not happy about this because the people of the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom have been mixing together (under inequitable conditions) for more than a hundred years and âjust kick out the Fire Nationâ is not as straightforward as it seems, since there are blended families now. Zuko refuses to kick out the Fire Nation people from Yu Dao, Kuei wants to play hardball, and they almost launch another war. Oh and thereâs a weird plot about Aang debating whether to put Zuko down like a rabid dog
For all that the Wiki page does a good job of summarizing the events, it forgets some key facts:Â
Itâs Katara who first starts thinking about new solutions after witnessing the situation on the ground, and then comes up with the idea that Zuko and Kuei should meet and talk about the colonies:

Itâs Katara who tells Kuei that Zuko has legitimate concerns (without saying that Zuko is right), when Aang tries to hedge and sugarcoat the truth:Â

And itâs Katara who says to Kuei, wait, what the hell do you mean that you have no idea what your people want, that Yu Dao is just a dot on the map for you? Weâre getting you out of this stupid blimp and youâre gonna talk to people before you make a decision that affects their lives, you coward

To recap, Katara demonstrates some pretty freaking key political skills, like:Â
finding out what people want before making a decision for themÂ
seeing people as people first and foremost, not as fire nation or earth kingdomÂ
encouraging her loved ones, the Avatar and the Fire Lord, to resolve a conflict by beginning negotiations instead of brawling like a couple of drunks at a bar / kids on the playground (both analogies fit btw, 13-17 is a weird combination of ages)Â Â
realistically reporting tricky disagreements without sweeping them under the rug
kidnapping a king to the middle of a battlefield to give him a reality check about listening to the people heâs trying to rule
Anyway, Katara is hyper competent at both war AND peace! We see this in the show, with her compassion for the prisoners of the Earth Kingdom (by inciting a prison riot) and the suffering people of the Fire Nation (by committing ecoterrorism), only now that compassion is backed up not only by her fighting prowess and speeches about hope, but actual ability to manipulate the levers of power.Â
And have I mentioned that she has the ears of both the Avatar and the Fire Lord and her dad is Chief of the Southern Water Tribe? Even if Katara didnât get a diplomat position based on her skills, or her status as a war hero, she could nepo baby her way in. The fact that she does not pick up a career in international diplomacy is a crime & a colossal oversight from the creators. At minimum you know Katara wouldâve established Healers Without Borders or something. She deserves to be yelling at people at ATLA UN and then drafting world-changing resolutions.Â
And as a bonus, Katara demonstrates her gift for diplomacy by not smacking Zuko up the head for attempting to legitimize colonization through the argument of economic progressâŚ

âŚand by not smacking Aang up the head for seriously considering anti-miscegenation as a viable political solution:Â

This patience is a new development because show!Katara did not have this in her, but maybe this is what growing up is all about and not just yet another strike on the âcomics are wildly OOCâ tally
TL;DR: ATLA boys lost their brain cells post-canon. All hail Katara, Sugar Queen of international diplomacy.Â
#Katara#Katara deserved better#atla comics#Chief Katara of the Water Tribes#United Republic Councilwoman Katara#Ambassador Katara#Iâm not picky which one she becomes I just want her to exert political power as a principled and fair and compassionate representative#She saved the world itâs only fair she gets to run it especially since unlike most nepo babies (ie monarchy) sheâs qualified#pro Katara#atla#my meta

Trump's Promises vs. Performance:
Evaluating Donald Trumpâs 2024 Campaign Agenda in 2025
When Donald Trump launched his 2024 campaign under the banner of Agenda 47, he reignited the fiery populist rhetoric that defined his first term, this time with even more urgency and sweeping declarations. Pledging to âsave America,â Trumpâs platform was centered on hard-hitting immigration reform, economic protectionism, aggressive federal purges, and bold foreign policy goals. Now, as the calendar turns to 2025, the realities of his presidency reveal a mixed bag of rapid execution, political resistance, and unsettling unfulfilled ambition.
Immigration: Rapid Action Meets Legal Resistance
Trump wasted no time in pushing for significant immigration changes. Within his first 100 days, he ramped up deportation efforts and sought to bypass judicial review for undocumented immigrants, an initiative that was quickly challenged by civil rights organizations and the Supreme Court. While his crackdown has energized his base, it has also reignited heated constitutional debates and sparked widespread humanitarian outcry. Despite swift action, the legal resistance suggests his policies may be more contentious than initially promised.
Many legal experts now argue that Trump's rapid immigration policies are both unconstitutional and counterproductive. The legal battles unfolding in the courts not only delay his plans but also demonstrate the pushback against what many see as an authoritarian overreach. The public discourse around his hardline approach has only deepened the polarization, as opponents argue that this rhetoric plays to the fears of the American public rather than offering long-term solutions.
Economic Policy: Tariffs, But at What Cost?
True to his campaign pledge, Trump enacted a blanket 10% tariff on all imports, with higher penalties for Chinese goods. The policy aimed to reshore manufacturing and protect American industries, but economists have warned of inflationary effects and retaliatory trade barriers. Some U.S. factories have reported slight gains, but the broader economic picture is less clear. Trumpâs attempts to shield American industries have raised the risk of sparking a deeper economic downturn, with some analysts suggesting that his protectionist approach may be pushing the country closer to recession.
The mounting tension between Trumpâs protectionism and global trade has resulted in stagnation in key industries, with consumers bearing the brunt of higher prices. In some sectors, American businesses are caught in the crossfire of trade wars, with retaliatory tariffs on U.S. exports leading to further job losses and a decline in international competitiveness. Despite his promises of bringing manufacturing back to the U.S., the long-term outlook remains uncertain.
Additionally, his focus on isolationist policies has left America with fewer global partnerships, forcing the nation to contend with more limited economic avenues. As the recession looms, critics argue that Trump's economic policies have not only failed to meet his promises but may be deepening America's financial woes.
'Drain the Swamp' 2.0: Loyalty Over Legacy
Trump's infamous âdrain the swampâ mantra resurfaced with vengeance as he removed career officials he deemed disloyal and filled federal agencies with his political allies. This sweeping restructuring has raised concerns over the erosion of institutional independence and the growing weaponization of government. Critics argue that his appointments of loyalists are undermining democratic norms, further consolidating power and diminishing the checks and balances that are fundamental to the system.
This âloyalty over competenceâ approach has drawn ire from both political sides, as it threatens the foundation of a balanced, functioning government. Trump's supporters see these moves as necessary to dismantle what they view as a bureaucratic deep state, while his detractors argue that this focus on loyalty has led to incompetence and a lack of accountability within critical institutions.
Many believe that this restructuring of federal agencies and courts reflects an alarming shift toward autocracy. As Trump continues to consolidate power in the executive branch, there are increasing fears that checks on presidential authority are being removed, potentially paving the way for future abuses.
Foreign Policy: Unfulfilled Peace Promises
Among the most dramatic promises from Trumpâs 2024 campaign was his vow to end the war in Ukraine âwithin 24 hours.â As 2025 unfolds, the conflict continues unabated, with Trump admitting that peace negotiations are more complex than anticipated. Similarly, his promises to broker peace in Gaza and strike a new nuclear deal with Iran have made little headway, hindered by entrenched regional tensions and international skepticism.
His foreign policy, which was once driven by bold promises of reshaping global dynamics, has foundered on the harsh realities of diplomacy. Trump's attempts to bypass international protocols and negotiate from a position of strength have alienated traditional allies, and his desire to prioritize unilateral action has left the U.S. isolated on the global stage. Whether his âAmerica Firstâ foreign policy will prove effective in the long run remains to be seen, but so far, many of his promises have failed to come to fruition.
Energy & Environment: Turning Back the Clock
Trumpâs administration has moved aggressively to reverse environmental policies, consistent with his âAmerica Firstâ energy vision. Major offshore wind projects, like Empire Wind off the coast of New York, were halted in the name of protecting the environment. However, critics argue that this is less about conservation and more about rolling back clean energy initiatives to favor fossil fuel industries. These moves have led to growing concerns about the future of renewable energy in the U.S.
His decision to prioritize fossil fuel industries over renewable energy comes at a time when climate change remains a pressing global issue. Trumpâs rollback of environmental protections not only contradicts global sustainability goals but also threatens the countryâs future energy security. Many are left wondering if his short-term focus on reviving coal and oil industries is worth the long-term damage to the planet.
Domestic Economy: Uneven Gains, Growing Pains
While Trump promised to bring back jobs and revitalize American manufacturing, states like Michiganâonce central to his baseâare experiencing significant economic challenges. Rising unemployment and sluggish industrial recovery have prompted many to question the effectiveness of his economic policies. The strategy of placing tariffs and pushing for protectionism has contributed to a growing sense that the U.S. may be on the verge of a recession, despite Trumpâs frequent claims of economic success.
The discrepancy between Trump's promises and economic realities has raised serious concerns. While his administration has touted job growth in certain sectors, the broader impact on the average American worker has been uneven at best. In many rust belt states, industries continue to struggle, and Trumpâs economic vision has left some working-class communities feeling abandoned.
Moreover, Trump's economic policies have increased the national debt significantly, and critics argue that his reckless fiscal decisions will have lasting negative effects on future generations.
Big Promises, Bigger Questions
Several of Trumpâs most ambitious campaign goals, like revitalizing infrastructure, balancing the federal budget, and protecting entitlement programs, remain largely untouched. With the national debt continuing to climb and infrastructure bills stalled in Congress, voters are left wondering whether these promises were ever truly prioritized, or if they were simply a means of rallying support.
Trumpâs failure to address long-term fiscal issues, such as the deficit and public debt, signals a troubling disregard for Americaâs financial future. The promises made during his 2024 campaign have begun to feel more like empty rhetoric than actionable goals, and many are now questioning his commitment to tackling the pressing issues that continue to affect everyday Americans.
Rhetoric vs. Reality: A Dangerous Shift?
Trumpâs rhetoric has become increasingly erratic in 2025, fueling concerns that he is steering the country toward authoritarianism. His aggressive political purges, inflammatory language, and attacks on the media and judiciary have drawn comparisons to the rise of dictatorial regimes. As his administration moves forward, it is becoming clear that Trumpâs promises may not only be falling short, they are pushing the country toward a deeper, more dangerous divide.
Many are questioning whether his actions reflect an attempt to consolidate power at the expense of democratic institutions, with some arguing that his base of loyalists is following him blindly, like âmutsâ under his command. As America grapples with rising inflation, unemployment, and political instability, itâs evident that Trumpâs âAmerica Firstâ vision might be steering the country into a dangerous ideological direction. His unhinged rhetoric, while appealing to his supporters, has alienated moderates and centrist voters, increasing the likelihood of deepened societal fractures.
Conclusion: Bold Moves, Broken Dreams
Donald Trumpâs return to the presidency has been marked by bold rhetoric and sweeping actions that have deeply polarized the nation. While some promises have been swiftly acted upon, like the crackdown on immigration and the purging of federal agencies, many of his larger goals, such as peace deals abroad and a revitalized domestic economy, remain unrealized. As the country moves forward into 2025, the growing gap between Trumpâs promises and the reality of his administration raises significant concerns about the future direction of the United States. With his increasingly authoritarian tone and failure to steer the economy away from recession, the question remains: will Trumpâs campaign agenda truly save America, or push it into a dangerous new era of division and unrest?

Mining Engineer: CDR Writing Guide
The Engineers Australia Review Panel often rejects applications from mining engineers looking to migrate to Australia. The primary issue is not a lack of relevant knowledge but an inability to effectively communicate their skills and work history in the CDR report. That is why it is important to know how to prepare a CDR for a mining engineer.Â
Does Every Mining Engineer Need a CDR Report? Not every mining engineer is required to complete a CDR report. This process is tailored for those people:
Who holds a qualification in mining engineering from outside Australia.
Who intend to apply for skilled migration visas such as Subclass 189, Subclass 190, or Subclass 491.Â
Whose qualifications are not accredited under the Washington Accord.
Guide to Writing a CDR for Mining Engineer: Writing your own CDR can feel overwhelming. However, if approached in smaller bites, it can feel more manageable. Below is a more graphic, simplified guide to assist you:
1. Introduction Section
What to Include in the Introduction Section?
Your professional work history, including jobs, stints, and roles.
Why you are submitting the CDR and what you intend to do with it (migrate as a mining engineer).
Summaries and compilations of your educational credentials and associated work specific to mining engineering.
2. Career Episodes
For this section you will develop three separate Career Episodes, focusing on and highlighting different dimensions from the same body of work.
Career Episode 1: Highlight a project or task from your education or early professional experience in mining engineering.
Career Episode 2: Describe a project where you actively participated in carrying out the mining work, such as mine planning, drilling, or safety management.
Career Episode 3: Describe training, certifications, or any other innovations you encountered in your work, and focus on how those advancements improved your work within the context of professional development.
3. Summary Statement
The last part is the summary statement, where you articulate how all of your career episodes cumulatively satisfy the competencies set by Engineers Australia and the section itself. Try to be concise in this section but also as detailed as possible while remaining true to your summary to make your case as a mining engineer.
Analyze every single competency requirement by Engineers Australia and try to relate it to the appropriate career episode.
Make relevant and accurate explanations for each episode and elaborate on how their experiences synapse with these competencies.
What Else Should You Consider While Writing the CDR?
1. Salary & Job Outlook for Mining Engineers in Australia
It is important to analyze the salary and employment projections of mining engineers within Australia. Reports within the sector indicate that a mining engineerâs average salary in Australia ranges between AUD 100,000 to AUD 150,000 yearly, though this amount differs with respect to the location and level of experience.
2. Regions Where Demand is High for Mining Engineers
Western AustraliaQueenslandNew South Wales
3. Scope of Mining Engineering in Australia
With the advancements in mining technology and environmental sustainability, mining engineering possesses a potent focus in Australia. Important Tips for Writing a Successful Mining Engineer CDR
Always write the report in Australian English.
Plagiarism is prohibited in any form.
Incorporate relevant engineering projects that exemplify mining engineering principles.
Properly make use of mining jargon.
Provide supporting evidence for problem-solving, team participation, leadership, and safety measures.
Abide by the requirements of the Engineers Australia Migration Skills Assessment (MSA) Booklet.

IOC Study on Transgender Athletes Severely Flawed
So, to a certain extent, the question of "should transwomen be able to compete female sports?" is an ideological question (i.e., "should identity supersede reality?").
That being said, there's a recent report [1], funded by the IOC, that is being used to "prove" that transwomen do not have a biological advantage over non-trans women. This report is severely flawed and does not actually lend support to the idea that transwomen have no biological advantage in sports over female people.
(I will mimic the language used in the report (e.g., using "ciswomen").)
Significant differences noted by the report that do NOT support transwomen's inclusion in women's sports:
Transwomen were substantially taller than ciswomen
Transwomen had more lean/fat-free mass than ciswomen
Transwomen had better lung function than ciswomen, as measured by forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in one second, and peak expiratory flow. (See the next section for a discussion on the ratio.)
Transwomen had greater hand grip strength (a proxy for overall strength measurement)
Transwomen had higher absolute peak power (lower extremity) compared to ciswomen. (See next section for a discussion on the relative measure.)
Transwomen had the same "absolute strength" as cismen
The data showing no significant difference between transwomen and ciswomen has substantial flaws:
The sample size was too small to reliably determine differences in bone mineral density
For lung function only the FEV1:FVC ratio was lower for transwomen, but the values are generally within the normal range for both groups. The impact of this difference is therefore questionable, as the transwomen have greater absolute values on each measurement and the ratio is not showing any abnormalities. In addition, the effect size (size of the difference) is much smaller than the effect size of the absolute differences described above. The conclusion here is simply that the participants do not have any obstructive respiratory diseases, and the transwomen have greater absolute lung function. (Although there are better tests for this.) There is also one outlier in the transwomen group that is likely driving this relationship in the ratio; unfortunately they do not perform the expected control analyses to demonstrate the retention of results without the outlier. [2]
The researchers decided to examine power in the lower extremities relative to lean/fat-free mass, which yielded a lower result for transwomen compared to ciswomen. However, this methodology make absolutely no sense. We have already established that transwomen have significantly greater lean/fat-free mass, and this paper is interested in determining equitably in sport performance. In general, sports aren't divided out by mass (and certainly not by lean mass), therefore we are interested in absolute differences, not in differences adjusted by some other factor. (Particularly not when that factor is established to be significantly different between transwomen and ciswomen!)
The same criticism applies to their analysis of cardiac function. But even more importantly, "the most crucial variable influencing VO2_max was not assessed in the present study" which is a significant oversight given the stated goals of this paper.
There are numerous other limitation and issues with this report:
This study is of "cross-sectional design, making it challenging to establish causation or examine if the performance of athletes changes as a result of undergoing GAHT"
"The athlete training intensity was self-reported. Therefore, the results may suffer from selection and recall bias." [emphasis mine] -> In other words, these results may be "comparing apples and oranges" with varying rates of fitness impacting the results.
"The athletes participating in the present study represented a variety of different sports, and this would have undoubtedly impacted the results of the study as different sports stress different training and sports modalities." [emphasis mine] -> This is a significant limitation, as comparing the strength of a ciswoman weight lifter to a transwomen distance runner (or vice versa) is meaningless. It's true that measures of fitness tend to correlate, but comparing across sport disciplines for highly competitive sports (where they are focusing on improving specific characteristics) distorts the results. (They explicitly note this: "Exercise type, intensity and duration all have an impact on physiological responses and overall laboratory performance metrics.")
"Social media recruitment leaves this study open to sample bias"
"The gender-affirming treatment of the transgender athletes was not controlled"
"The participants were not screened by a clinician before participation, and any medical conditions were self-reported"
The transwomen in this study all suppressed testosterone to ciswomen's levels and increased oestradiol above ciswomen's levels. This is a limitation because this degree of success in hormone suppression is uncommon, meaning that even these these poorly-supportive results are likely inapplicable to the majority of transwomen. [3]
There is a significant conflict of interest: this study was funded by the IOC after they had already changed the rules to remove the "hormone suppression" requirement [4]
All in all, this study is a classic case of researchers misrepresenting their data in the study's abstract. The data they actually collected shows that transwomen on hormone suppression maintain significant advantages over ciswomen. Further, the flaws in the study limit the applicability of their results.
---
In addition, there are other studies that contradict this result:
This review [3] discusses numerous sources describing "the inherent male physiological advantages that lead to superior athletic performance and then addresses how estrogen therapy fails to create a female-like physiology in the male"
This review [5] found "the performance gap between males and females becomes significant at puberty and often amounts to 10â50% depending on sport" and that "longitudinal studies examining the effects of testosterone suppression on muscle mass and strength in transgender women consistently show very modest changes, where the loss of lean body mass, muscle area and strength typically amounts to approximately 5% after 12 months of treatment. Thus, the muscular advantage enjoyed by transgender women is only minimally reduced when testosterone is suppressed."
This study [6] found that transwomen "generally maintained their strength level" during "gender-affirming therapy".
This study [7] found that all physical advantages were present after one year and that some are retained even after years on hormone suppression. They also specifically hypothesized that "gender dysphoria could stimulate the opposite behaviour [differences in exercise habits] in transwomen, decreasing push-up performance and explaining why transwomen performed fewer push-ups than [cismen] prior to starting oestrogen." This motivation difference likely won't apply to elite athletes, which further supports the idea that transwomen athletes should not be competing with female athletes.
As this position statement [8] indicates we know that there are substantial differences in athletic performance for male and female people.* However, there is little high-quality, definitive evidence concerning the effects of hormone suppression/replacement on people's athletic performance. The current state of evidence suggests that hormone suppression/replacement fails to bridge the physiological gap between male and female people, but we need further higher-quality evidence to definitively prove this.
(That being said, the burden of proof here is on the people attempting to initiate a change; that is equitably between transwomen and female people should be (have been) established prior to eliminating biological sex-separation.)
*Before anyone jumps on this: this is not a moral difference. There is absolutely no reason why running faster or lifting heavier things would make someone "better". The biological difference in performance exists, but it does not in anyway suggest superiority of men over women. Beyond that, it is unsurprising that men outperform women on traditional sports given that sports were designed by and for men. In sports that cater to women's physiological advantages (e.g., endurance, flexibility), women outperform men. [9]
---
So, given all this, what would we actually need to make determine transwomen's relative advantage over female people?
The "perfect" study would involve (at least) these elements:
Random selection from the desired population(s) of transwomen (e.g., top-ranked athletes in a specific sport, non-athletic, etc.) with matched (for population) non-trans female and non-trans male controls
Observation (not self-report) of activity level prior to, during, and following a standardized treatment (hormone suppression/replacement) initiation
Continual measurement of various physical and athletic performance, preferably with a range of laboratory (e.g., spirometry, body measurements) and naturalistic (e.g., actual sports competitions) tasks along with monitoring the treatment and clinical/health issues in all participants (again, not via self-report)
Large enough sample sizes to allow for sufficiently powered tests of all groups/differences of interest
A double-blinded assessment approach (or "placebo" controlled) such that both the researcher assessing the participants and the participants do not know what is being evaluated until the study is complete. For example, you may tell one half the transwomen participants that you are tracking the long term health effects of the intervention (hormone therapy), while you tell the other half that you are assessing differences in athletic performance as a result of the intervention. This will allow for the evaluation of demand characteristics like the ones impacting [7].
There are likely even more factors I have not currently thought of. Of course, completing the "perfect" study would likely be almost impossible. It would certainly be impossible to do for every population of interest (e.g., Olympic weight-lifters, adolescent track and field athletes, sedentary office workers) at the same time.
That being said, a study that fails to include all of these factors (particularly the blinded approach, matching of control participants, and sample size) is not going to meet the standard of evidence needed to make decisions of this magnitude (i.e., choosing to change the priority from biological categorization to ideological categorization). In reality, we would likely need many studies that individually evaluate each group of interest (e.g., transwomen olympic-level weight-lifters vs female olympic-level weight-lifters), each applying as many of the ideal study characteristics as possible.
In conclusion, the IOC has failed to perform their stated duty to regulate and ensure fair competition in sports. There is no current evidence suggesting that transwomen have lost their male-advantage in sports, much less any evidence suggesting they are at a disadvantage.

A full year had passed since the Cullens returned to Forks, now acting as grownups instead of some teenager studying in Forks high school, minus Renesmee, to her dismay. Carlisle received a warm welcome back to the hospital, where he encountered new faces introduced to him since his departure.
âGood morning Doctor Cullen.â A nurse with red hair greeted politely to him, he was around his height and had brown eyes, a face that he doesnât remember during his time there
âIâm nurse Sean, not the chief nurse but I think Eunice is getting her out now.â Sean informed him âYouâll like her I think, sheâs professional as fuck.â
A girl with her chestnut hair tied up in a bun walked out of a room. At that moment, all Carlisle could think about was how captivating the woman was, everything about her screamed authority, he knew then and there that she was the chief nurse.
Time felt like it slowed down when they locked eyes, this woman has plagued over his mind. Carlisle subtly admired her face, she had eyes that matched the shade of her hair and pale pink lips that complimented her fair complexions.
âCeline Wright, chief nurse here.â Celine introduced herself with a prim and proper tone. She offered her hand in a handshake and Carlisle accepted it, feeling the warmth of her hand against the coldness of his
âCarlisle Cullen, former chief doctor here.â Carlisle introduced back, pulling his hand away from the handshake âPleasure to meet you.â
From the stories that Carlisle has heard, Celine was 25 years old when she assumed the position and has demonstrated remarkable competence, excelling in her role for a year prior his return with unparalleled precision and skill.
But it was distracting him, she was distracting him. Despite her undeniable competence, it was her blood that proved to be the real challenge for Carlisle. The tantalizing scent of it often left Carlisle struggling to focus, forcing him to endure long stretches without breathing just to filter out the temptation.
But even after leaving work, her scent lingered in his mind, infiltrating every aspect of his life. Something as harmless as a report file with a hint of her scent could drive him to the brink of madness.
Itâs been a year since Carlisle has been working with Celine, a year of extreme caution over his thirst. He was always making sure that he was fed before going to the hospital, making sure that there was always some distance between them. However, as the chief nurse, their interactions were inevitable, presenting a constant challenge to Carlisle's restraint.
It also didnât help that Celineâs kind and caring nature was growing on him in ways that he didnât expect that itâll do so. Her smile became a source of motivation for him, brightening his day with a single glance. He found himself instinctively seeking her out upon arriving at work, drawn to her presence like a magnet.
Celine was growing on him, as a person, as a friend, as someone that he wishes he could pursue openly.
âSheâs your blood singer and mate.â Edward concluded, having experienced a similar scenario before âYouâre dealing with what Iâve dealt with when Bella was still human.â
âGreat,â Rosalie scoffed, crossing her arm âAnother human.â
âCarlisle wonât pressure her into something that she doesnât want to partake herself in.â Esme assured everyone
âWe would never know if he doesnât pursue her.â Alice said, holding on from having another vision whether Celine Wright was in their future or not
âWould we rob Carlisle a chance to finally be with his mate?â Edward argued to Rosalie
âWould you rob another girlâs humanity for an uncertainty?â Rosalie asked him back; the tension was growing between the two
âEnough with the arguing.â Carlisle said, a decision set in his head
âIâve figured out that sheâs my mate. But I will not pressure her into anything.â He stated at once to everyone that was listening to him âNor will I pursue her whatsoever. Let the future play how it has planned to be. Alice, Edward, no attempting to manipulate it to one of your visions.â
Just in time, his alarm has rung, notifying him that he has a shift to get ready for. He bids his goodbye, going to his office to get ready.
He was painfully slow, questioning whether his choice was the right one, plagued by uncertainty and the fear of denying himself a chance at happiness.
But underneath his own desires was the concern for Celine's well-being. He couldn't bear the thought of forcing her into a life she didn't want, no matter how difficult it was for him to accept the possibility of letting her go.
âAre you sure of your decision?â Esme asked him, walking into his office âDo you really want to just give up like that already?â
âShe deserves a long, happy life.â Carlisle spoke softly, grabbing his briefcase with all the reports that heâs brought home âNot be damned for eternity.â
âAnd if she asks for a long, happy life with you, then what?â Esme asked him, making Carlisle ponder at her question. She was right, what certainty did he have that Celine wouldnât welcome this life?
âThe risk is too high.â He thought to himself
He left without answering her question.
It was another late-night shift that Celine accepted. Having heard another alibi from one of her co-nurses. Lying and saying that âthey have some important matters to deal with,â only to see them by the bar as she drives by, drunk beyond their capabilities.
âI have nothing to do anyways, so why not just earn more so I could leave this shitty town.â She always used that to convince herself
In all honesty, Celine's financial status was not a factor in her decision. She had inherited a comfortable sum from when her parents died, ensuring that she was shielded from any financial struggles. But sheâs heard that Doctor Cullen always took a night shift, working perfectly for their familyâs set up of needing someone to be at home at all times.
Whatâs wrong if she was to indulge herself and the tiny crush that she had for him? After all, he wasn't married, a fact his hand had subtly conveyed to her.
âNurse Celine, good to see youâŚagain.â Carlisle greeted, walking in her office (which technically, is his office too) with a disposable cup of coffee âI thought your shift was over?â
âYeah, Nurse Alex had to bail, said something along the lines of dealing with some personal stuff.â Celine answered âMade sure to give him the morning shift though, just as some sort of revenge.â
âI do not condone that behavior, but frankly, I would say that you deserve the rest.â Carlisle said, sitting next to her. It was dangerous, he knew. But he didnât want to leave her alone.
âItâs a slow night.â Celine reported âJust one rush to the E.R. thinking that they were dying because of some spots they saw on their face. After doing some checking on it, it was just some questionably large pimples. Scary? Yes. But not fatal.â
âAt least it has been slow so you wonât tire yourself too much.â Carlisle said, pushing the coffee near her
âWhy donât you just say to your sister that you donât actually enjoy the coffee she makes? It just feels like a waste, giving away your coffee every time.â Celine asked, accepting the cup and drinking it
Carlisle was asked by Celine one time why he wasnât drinking the coffee that he had, noticing that the cup was left untouched until he throws it away just after his shift. In panic, he fabricated a story, claiming that his sister Esme, who worked night shifts at her own job, often made coffee for herself and would give the extras to him.
He had offered it to her then, hoping that the coffee Esme made because she has missed the aroma of coffee was in Celineâs taste. Celine didnât answer that time if she had enjoyed the coffee or not, but every time he would offer her the coffee, she would accept it.
This silent acceptance fueled Carlisle's hope that perhaps, in some small way, they were connecting through these shared moments over coffee.
From then, he asked Esme about the recipe and continued to make it from the comfort of his car before he walked in the hospital, using the coffee as a conversation starter, a way to engage with her, hoping to deepen their connection through these small interactions.
âYou enjoy it.â Carlisle answered almost immediately. Celine looked at him, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion
âI mean, she always makes it at night for her work. Offers some to me, even though I donât drink coffee, Iâm just too shy to not accept it. And besides, you deserve some coffee yourself too.â Carlisle explained further, giving Celine the satisfaction of getting an answer
âThanks. I owe you one.â Celine said, lifting the coffee and drinking some more of it âHow do you even get the energy to do night shifts? Ever since you got here, youâve like made it your thing to be the one for night shifts.â
âI sleep in the morning.â Carlisle answered, having prepared an alibi for when that question inevitably gets asked to him âDid kind of take a toll on my social life though, Iâll tell you. But I have accepted this way when I decided to step into the field of medicine.â
âReally?â Celine asked, piqued with how he was opening up âWhy prefer night shift then? You could easily be transferred to morning shift if youâd just ask.â
âI prefer it this way.â Carlisle answered, Celine pondered if someone has asked him this question before âBesides, who will give you your daily coffee if I donât join you with the night shifts?â
âI can get myself coffee, thank you very much.â Celine answered, fake insult in her tone and playfully rolling her eyes at him
âI know you can, I do enjoy it just as much to be the one to give you your coffees.â Carlisle said, a smile on his face
âHe looked like a Ken doll.â She thought, looking at Carlisle and admiring his seemingly perfect features. His eyes was shining golden, a shade she never thought was possible for a human to have. The pale pink tint of his lips stirred a fleeting curiosity about their softness, though she quickly brushed aside any thoughts of how they might feel against her own.
âSome of the nurses are getting jealous, you should give them coffee sometimes.â Celine teased him. Carlisle looked at her, his eyebrows raised at her teasing. He did not want to give anyone else some sort of affection.
His undead heart was with hers before she even knew it.
âThatâs if theyâll like 5 teaspoons of sugar and 3 teaspoons of creamer in their coffee.â Carlisle teased her back, watching as she finishes the coffee that he has prepared
âWell, anything that you would give to them, theyâll accept really.â She answered, before going back to reading some reports that the morning shift nurses has prepared for them
The night was long, the comforting silence joining them as they read through. Fortunately, there were no urgent emergencies demanding their attention. It wasnât until Carlisle heard Celine stifle a yawn that made him check his watch, the small screen showing 8:17 AM.
âShift over.â Carlisle announced, standing up and faking a stretch
He could have stayed there forever had she been able to do the same.
âFinally.â Celine mumbled, the aftermath of the coffee finally taking a toll on her as she slumps herself on the seat that sheâs been on for the past 12 hours âSo tired.â
âNeed a ride home?â Carlisle asked, seeing that she wasnât awake enough to go home on her own
Despite his declaration not to pursue Celine, Carlisle found himself engaging in behaviors that seemed to contradict his words. He couldn't shake the feeling that he was unintentionally leading her on, even though she hadn't explicitly expressed interest in him, neither through her words nor her body language.
âIâm fine, brought my car with me.â Celine murmured; her eyes closed as she rests her head on the chair âJust need a few minutes to close my eyes.â
âOkay then.â Carlisle answered, sitting down on the chair where he was sitting earlier, grabbing a bit more reports to read as he accompanies her
The few minutes became an hour. Then the hour became two hours. Carlisle then slowly realized that Celine was beginning to doze off in the chair she was sitting in. He looked at her with a small smile on his face.
He didnât need to be a vampire or a doctor to know that she was in an uncomfortable position. Her whole torso was slouched down and her head was down, giving the look that she was uncomfortably bowing.
Carlisle moved his seat closer to hers, feeling the warmth of her arm against the coldness of his. With tender care, he lifted her head, cradling it on his shoulder. Though not as plush as a pillow, he knew it would be far more comfortable than where her head had previously rested.
As he sat there, Carlisle gazed at Celine, closing his eyes and synchronizing his faux breathing with hers, attuned to the steady rhythm of her heartbeat.
Carlisle knew that it was temptation, being this close to her. And a sin to indulge himself in such temptation. But if he was to be damned today, he would be happy to have indulged himself with the existence of Celine.

While delegates to the United Conservative Partyâs annual general meeting convened on Saturday, hundreds of demonstrators took to the steps of the Alberta legislature to rally against three bills tabled this week that, if passed, would impact transgender rights. One of the bills, the Education Amendment Act, 2024, would require children under 16 to have parental consent to change their names or pronouns at school. Youth age 16 to 17 wouldnât need consent, but parents would still be notified. The second bill, the Health Statutes Amendment Act, 2024, would prohibit doctors from treating those under 16 seeking transgender treatments such as puberty blockers and hormone therapies. The third bill, the Fairness and Safety in Sport Act, would ban transgender women and girls from competing in female-only sports divisions and require organizations to report eligibility complaints. Protestors say the bills are harmful and put the safety of youth at risk, especially if there isnât support at home.

The New Yorker just issued its cover: Donald J Trump, A Man of Conviction, by John Cuneo
+
Justice.
May 31, 2024
ROBERT B. HUBBELL
Justice.
On Thursday, May 30, justice was served in a Manhattan courtroom.
A jury of twelve citizens convicted Donald Trump on thirty-four felony counts of falsifying documents to interfere in the 2016 election.
Justice was served.
Trump received a fair trial before an impartial jury presided over by an even-handed judge.
Trump had the right to testify or remain silent. He chose to remain silentâas permitted by the Fifth Amendment.
He had the unlimited right to challenge jurors âfor causeâ if he demonstrated that a juror could not render an impartial verdict. Trump challenged only one juror for causeâa juror who had once been the houseguest of one of Trump's attorneys. That juror was later excused on a peremptory challenge by Trump.
Trump had ten âperemptory challengesâ that allowed him to excuse jurors without providing a reason. Trump exercised all ten peremptory challenges.
Trump was able to object to the testimony of witnesses and the introduction of exhibits. He objected continuously. Many of his objections were sustained, and most were overruled (because they were baseless).
He cross-examined every witness offered by the prosecution. He offered two witnesses in his defense. They sealed his fate.
He made an opening statement and a closing argument to the jury.
He was able to submit and object to jury instructions.
After the jury began deliberations, its requests to review key evidence and important jury instructions indicated that it took its charge seriously.
The length of the juryâs deliberations and the unanimity of its verdict on thirty-four counts demonstrate that they were persuaded beyond a reasonable doubt that Donald Trump was guilty as charged.
Justice was served.
The verdict matters because it demonstrates to Americans that the core of our democracy is strong and true.
One fair verdict will offset a dozen compromised and corrupt judges and justices. The verdict demonstrates what justice looks likeâand reminds us of what we can have again if we gain control of Congress and retain the presidency.
The verdict is important because it reminds Americans that no person is above the law in our democracy. That bedrock truth must be reinforced periodically, or it will lose its animating force.
The verdict also speaks to the world. It reminds friends and foes alike that the audacious American experiment is robust and secure. Convicting a former president in a fair trial is something few other nations would attemptâmuch less accomplish in a peaceful and orderly manner.
The verdict gives Americans much to be thankful for:
A fair jury composed of twelve Americans willing to perform the simple but extraordinary task of sitting in judgment over a former president.
A District Attorney willing to carefully review the evidence and follow the law.
Competent and diligent prosecutors willing to do the hard work necessary to achieve justice.
An honorable, fair, firm judge willing to protect the rights of the defendant and the interests of the people in seeing justice served.
Court officers, law enforcement officers, clerks, paralegals, and court reporters who ensured that the court proceeding unfolded in an orderly and safe manner.
Given the fundamental fairness of the trial and verdict, Republicans are reduced to attacking the justice system itself. In a coordinated effort, Republican members of Congress issued statements that called the trial ârigged,â insulted the integrity of the jury, compared the proceeding to âshow trials in Cuba under Castro,â and said that May 30 was âthe most shameful day in American history.â
While we should be concerned about the assaults on the justice system, letâs recognize that the system prevailed todayâdespite seven years of attacks by Trump and his enablers. The trial and verdict served as a stress test for the justice systemâand it passed.
There will be time to assess the political ramifications of the verdict. Today, we should celebrate that the justice system worked despite enormous efforts to obstruct and undermine it.
That is a remarkable, glorious achievement that stands alone.
Sit with that truth for a moment before returning to the urgent task of preventing Trump's reelection. We deserve a moment of calm reflection and sober relief that justice was served.
Justice.
Finally.

All I remember is reading a report about a robot that had to carry a little robot on its shoulder to demonstrate its complete competency at its job. It did the task. Everyone agreed that the robot was very competent.

The weird and wonderful history of Kowloon as a digital interactive space - Part II
This article is the continuation of a previous post.
Any comprehensive history of 20th century Hong Kong is not complete without a chapter entirely dedicated to the architectural and urban planning puzzle that was Kowloon Walled City. Quite unlike any other slum in Asia or elsewhere in the world, the extreme conditions under which its inhabitants lived captured the attention of various international journalists and photographers whose reports of this accidental labyrinth, in turn, inspired some of the most remarkable artistic explorations of our time. In this regard, video games did not remain impervious to the powerfully stimulative imagery, as much a reference today as it was when its hardened concrete walls still stood tall.
Kowloon's Gate Suzaku VR - Jetman - 2017

Kowloon's Gate made a most unexpected comeback twenty years after the original episode via the crowdfunded VR project Suzaku developed by Jetman, a studio founded by and composed almost exclusively of ex-SME/Zeque staff. While it is not the remaster many had hoped for, essentially consisting of a walking simulation through some redesigned locations from the original, it does a commendable job in faithfully replicating its instantly recognizable, light-starved alleyways in competent high-definition. It is also the only VR-compatible entry from this list, granting it a degree of uniqueness over its counterparts.
Stranglehold - Midway/Tiger Hill Productions - 2007
Stranglehold is the result of a collaboration with Hong Kong movie director John Woo, developed as a direct sequel to his heroic bloodshed classic Hard Boiled, featuring Chow Yun-fat in the role of detective 'Tequilla' Yuen in his unending confrontations with organized crime. One of the game's most unforgettable levels, Slums of Kowloon, takes place during a particularly rainy day, seemingly in those last days when the zone had been emptied of residents and demolition work was well underway. The visual representation of the quarter is suitably evocative, its buildings in complete state of disrepair, the remnants of local businesses or places of prayer still discernible from under the piles of steel and cement rubble.
Resident Evil 6 - Capcom - 2012

For all its shortcomings, Resident Evil 6 partly succeeds in taking the first two episodes' concept of parallel storylines and realizing it to a much fuller extent. Its choice of different characters translates into entirely different campaigns, locations and playing styles. The very first scene in Chris/Piers' campaign occurs in the fictional Chinese city of Lanshiang, modelled after real-life Hong Kong. The mayhem in the main streets forces the player to take a detour into a location named Poisawan, which bears a striking resemblance to the Kowloon district. Though an unofficial representation, it is among the most skilled replications of the scenery we find in the vast photographic repository of the area. The degree of minutiae with which the district's haphazard electric installation is replicated, alone, suffices to demonstrate a true commitment to authenticity.
Paranormal HK - Ghostpie Studio - 2020

Few would dispute that Kowloon is, itself, naturally conducive to sentiments of dread and anxiety. Paranormal HK is a 2020 made in China production reviving the defunct neighbourhood in a gripping, blood-curdling contemporary ghost story. The player is the cameraman of a paranormal-themed TV show exploring the zone during the evening of the Zhongyuan festival, a scheme suspiciously akin to that of Akira Ueda's 2004 game, Michigan: Report From Hell. As a result of the thorough research work performed by its creators, as well as the impeccable usage of contemporary 3D graphics techniques to achieve accurate lighting conditions, players may momentarily experience the feeling of walking into a photo of the actual city as it existed in the mid eighties.
Sifu - Sloclap - 2022

Notwithstanding of its renaissance during the 128-Bit era, the beat 'em up genre is commonly associated with the arcade games of the late 80s and 90s, the period of time when it flourished and, arguably, reached its zenith. The simplicity of controls and ease of access sufficed to attract players to the arcade cabinet, while the frequently extreme levels of difficulty of advanced levels ensured a steady flow of cash for arcade room owners and game development companies alike. Nevertheless, the genre has but perished and, in many aspects, recent years have indeed elevated it to unforeseeable degrees of complexity. Sifu, by Sloclap, synthesizes the elation of digital hand to hand combat simulation with the real-life complexity of mastering a martial art.
As is the case of previous entries in this list, Sifu makes no admitted reference to Kowloon or Hong Kong. However, the designers left little to the imagination in what pertains to their inspirations when taking on the task of constructing the game's environments. Another notable coincidence stems from the fact that this production was made possibly with the support from a celebrated independent game funding group going by the name Kowloon Nights.
Stray - BlueTwelve Studio - 2022

Stray is one of the most revered independent video games in recent memory, and justifiably so. The long development process yielded many benefits, judging from the consistency and attention to detail that engrossed many an avid player. That the main character is singularly charming feline may have played an equally crucial role. The creators have made no effort to conceal the fact that the notorious Hong Kong district was a pivotal influence to the design of its nameless city. The first indication can be spotted in the game's earliest footage, in which a black cat traverses a street where a particularly conspicuous sign boasted the initials HK. Stray is less concerned with presenting a precise replica of Kowloon than it is about summoning the very essence of its atmosphere. Moreover, in an exquisitely poignant way, its ending lends an entirely new meaning to the term walled city. In the future, robots may well take the place of humans. Invariably, the Walled City is no more. Slitterhead - Bokeh Game Studio - Work in Progress

An sequence of unconscionable mistakes from the part of Sony Computer Entertainment's management galvanized Keiichiro Toyama to part ways with Japan Studio, as it once was, and establish his own game production label. Their debut title, Slitterhead, is described as a grotesque survival horror experience, a genre within which the author moves with matchless ease. Among the few certainties regarding this project is the fact that it will take place prominently - if not exclusively - within the Kowloon City province. A wide variety of aspects included in the preview footage leave the viewer optimistic as to this being one of the most accomplished portrayals of the district ever seen in a video game. Subtle yet telling signs already demonstrate the creator's in-depth knowledge of the quarter's architecture and history. Take, for instance, the suggestive image of the airplane flying mere meters above the top of the buildings. Although the growth of Kowloon was for the most part ungoverned, buildings did not rise above a certain height, even as inhabitants claimed for increased availability of space. This is due to the fact that airplanes landing at the nearby airport would be required to make their descent at relatively low altitude, performing a tight curve as they soared just above the enclave, thus preventing construction from expanding upwards. Another scene shows a child playing on the rooftops of the buildings, which once again is consistent with the documented habits of residents who, starved for sunlight and open space elsewhere within the city limits, had little alternative than to take the stairs all the way to the top.
Warehouse Kawasaki Arcade

I would be remiss not to make some form of allusion to Warehouse Kawasaki, an arcade built to replicate the Walled City with unthinkable detail. Though its ultimate purpose was for visitors to engage in digital entertainment, the venue was scrupulously put together. Point in fact, many of the objects used in the construction of the five floor amusement centre were imported directly from Hong Kong. Like so many other Japanese arcades, it closed its doors in 2019.

In recent years, a rather similar initiative was taken by the Chinese in their attempts to build unique mall spaces. The ćĺĺ malls in mainland China, found in Changsha, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, attempt to reproduce the walled city aesthetic. Local residents inform me that these are increasingly lacking in foot traffic, for which reason the majority of their stores are closed. Other digital replicas of Kowloon
A number of other videogames set in or deriving inspiration from Kowloon could not be featured in this article. A frequently cited reference in this context is the action/adventure game Fear Effect, one which I emphatically dispute. No doubt remains as to it being located in a futuristic version of Hong Kong, yet I could discern no parallels with the walled city, save for those scattered second-hand visual motifs that were no doubt imported from sci-fi classics such as Blade Runner or Ghost in the Shell.
The Utelek Complex stage of Deus Ex: Makind Divided presents a similar situation, where the overall atmosphere of the futuristic favela bears some resemblance to Kowloon, without meeting the specificity quota that would warrant a more comprehensive exploration.
The 2004 Shout! original Kowloon High-School Chronicle for the PS2 is a unique case, in that it borrows the city's name despite taking place in a massive, Tokyo underground dungeon that is later revealed to be a maze-like Egyptian pyramid. The odd choice of title remains unclear. Shadowrun: Hong Kong game (screenshot above) contains a very direct mention of Kowloon as the place in which an entire episode comes to pass. Another project still in development, Kowloon's Curse (screenshot below), is following the lead of many popular independent horror games in recent memory by using a visual design and structure that elicits memories of the late Playstation/early Dreamcast era. A short prequel episode was made available earlier this year, for free.
Additionally, I refrained from mentioning the Kowloon maps in Call of Duty: Black Ops or Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, as I perceive both games to be insufficiently relevant to merit study or contemplation.
A space that refuses to be forgotten
(China rooftop stage from The King of Fighters 2003)
It would be a gross overstatement to claim that Kowloon is a recurring location or level design motif in videogames. The relationship between digital games and the real life ghetto has been one of sporadic references. What makes the subject so engrossing pertains to the quality of the relationship, particularly that of a small cadre from among the titles featured in this article. Kowloon's Gate was one of the most relevant game creations of the 32-Bit era, a game deserving of reverence and cult following inside and outside Japan. Likewise, Shenmue II is the second instalment of a truly ground-breaking and highly advertised series whose production costs alone were unmatched until quite recently.
Moreover, this is an affair that is far from concluded. The unexpectedly high number of allusions to Kowloon in videogames released or revealed just last yet demonstrates that its aesthetic is still very much present in the minds and hearts of artists and designers working in the field. The walled city lives on as a digital demarcation that is certain to resurface time and again in years to come.
