DPxDC Idea

Danny working at Wayne Enterprises as some sort of engineer, uses the in-house app for all his blueprints and stuff

He starts getting notes from a coworker in-app, and assumes its this annoying older guy in his department who constantly undermines him because of his age, despite his education and past achievements (i feel like in this AU the Fentons react well to the reveal and they work together on a number of non-lethal ecto inventions that have Danny's name attached to them)

Except one day his coworker mentions never using the app, and Danny suddenly realizes there's only one other TD he could've been arguing with in the notes of the app

I know it is trying to be emotionally resonate and the flute is pretty but...#It really does have the energy of “Okay thanks for listening to my tragedies and traumas. I don't know how to segue out of this.”#This madam lan design is inspired by Qourmet's design! Really good stuff that I was not able to do more with in this one panel.#Speaking of...I know it is ambiguous on purpose and we are only told what happened through LXC's POV but...#I always interpreted madam lan's passing as a suicide. I think LXC was told it was illness to soften the blow.#She was stuck in a house with maybe a servant coming by to give her food. One day a month she saw her children.#Of course she was warm and loving in their memories-#She was trying to give them a version of her that would be remembered as such. She wanted to protect them from the truth.#She did her best but she was already dead a long time ago. She must have felt like a ghost haunting a house.#Love to her was waiting. And both her boys inherited that view of love.

I love libraries.

I'm browsing the WWI shelves (as you do) and notice a very old book about the war. I glance at the first pages that talk about how one day the war will be over and we'll look at this place and not see any signs of the battlefield.

Then it hits me. And I check the publishing date.

This book was printed before the war's end. Not written. Printed. The physical object was created in 1918, while the war in question was raging and the end was as yet uncertain.

Now I'm standing on the other side of the apocalypse, with this physical link to that era in my hands. I'm living proof that the war did end and life did go on and we can all look at the end of the world as a long-ago memory.

Reading old books is cool enough, connecting our minds and hearts through the ideas of people who lived long ago, but there's something extra profound about holding a copy of the book that comes from the time that it was written. It's a physical link between the past and the present connecting me to those long-ago people. A piece of the past come into the future that gives me the chance to almost take the hand of some long-ago reader, to hold something they could have held, connecting not just mentally but physically to their era, a moment of connection across more than a century.

Excuse me while I go weep.

#books #history is awesome #of course i checked it out #i had no real intent to read wwi non-fic but i couldn't just leave my new friend there it'd be lonely #i want to break out in tears every time i look at it #it's so stupid but sometimes something stupid just kicks you straight in the heart and you just gotta deal #it's old front line by john masefield #i know nothing about it except thinking the author's name sounded vaguely familiar #also the interior design is fantastic #these old books know how to use white space and make something super readable #if you must know i was in the wwi section because i was at the history museum the other day #and saw a local author had a book of wwi letters #thought i'd see if the library had it #looked at the selection of non-fic surrounding it and thought of the wwi persuasion #saw many books that could be useful #and thought 'oh no this looks like fun'#it won't go anywhere i know i won't be able to focus long enough to do real research #but darn if it wasn't an appealing little daydream

Once you stop thinking about queer people's labels as strict indications of what's in their pants and who they do/don't bed and instead view queer people's labels as how they interact with the world, you'll find that you'll get along with queer people better and treat them better, I think.

Do you have any plans on drawing twice-cursed Lyle in your "things that crawl? au? If he does indeed get twice-cursed?

Nnnot entirely sure if this is the final design I'll stick with but heres something

#The idea for Lyle was like. Leg rib cage. Leg guts. idk. he's less fixed and just more rearranged #Lyle so difficult for me idk why Im never satisfied by my designs for him so its kinda hard to adapt that #I think its funny to imagine that the Visitor has a really skewed view of certain body parts bcs its main pov of human biology is Sam #Who is missing a limb has differently colored eyes and has a mouth shape nobody else has #ALSO minor Sam redesign! not rlly too noticable but I was getting bored with the way I was drawing it #I might see if I can find a way to fuse legs more without it looking stupid so its more reasonable for the Visitor to think its fine.#Lyle keeps the abdomen a little cause he looks dumb and off balance without it but I might see if I can get rid of that too idk #Ooooh wait I could go with the Mental Map justification again. I really like that actually..#Spending nearly 2 weeks as big spider.. you have to start recognizing that as your own body at some point #but he still of course remembers himself as human. So when the Visitor turns him back into what he thinks he should look like #its this clusterfuck of both.
