Tips and Advice for Post-Transplant Care: Focusing on the Unique Climate of the Gold Coast
Tumblr media
Hair transplantation is a life-changing procedure that can restore not only your hair but also your confidence. However, the journey to full recovery and optimal results doesn’t end once you leave the clinic. Post-transplant care is critical, especially when living in a unique climate like that of the Gold Coast. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you navigate the post-transplant period and ensure your new hair thrives in this beautiful yet challenging environment.
Understanding the Gold Coast Climate
The Gold Coast is known for its stunning beaches, vibrant lifestyle, and subtropical climate. This region experiences hot, humid summers and mild, pleasant winters. While the climate is ideal for outdoor activities, it can present some challenges for post-hair transplant care. High humidity, intense UV radiation, and occasional heavy rain are factors that must be considered when planning your aftercare routine.
1. Protecting Your Scalp from the Sun
Why It’s Important: The Gold Coast’s sunny weather means your scalp is more likely to be exposed to harmful UV rays. After a hair transplant, your scalp will be particularly sensitive, and direct sun exposure can cause damage, leading to complications such as sunburn, prolonged redness, and even scarring.
Tips:
Wear a Hat: In the initial weeks post-transplant, whenever you go outdoors, wear a loose-fitting hat that doesn’t press on your newly transplanted grafts. Choose a breathable fabric like cotton to avoid sweating.
Stay Indoors During Peak Sun Hours: If possible, avoid being outside between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the sun’s rays are strongest.
Use Sunscreen: Once your doctor approves (usually after a few weeks), start applying a high SPF sunscreen to your scalp. Opt for a sunscreen designed for sensitive skin to avoid irritation.
2. Managing Humidity and Sweat
Why It’s Important: High humidity and sweat can be problematic in the early stages of recovery. Excessive sweating can lead to infection and discomfort, while humidity can prolong the healing process.
Tips:
Stay Cool: Avoid strenuous activities that cause excessive sweating during the first few weeks. Opt for light exercises like walking in air-conditioned environments.
Use a Cold Compress: To reduce sweating, you can gently apply a cold compress to your forehead or back of your neck. Be careful not to touch the transplanted area directly.
Keep Your Scalp Dry: Pat your scalp gently with a clean, soft towel if you notice sweating. Avoid rubbing or applying pressure to the grafts.
3. Dealing with Rain and Wind
Why It’s Important: The Gold Coast’s weather can be unpredictable, with sudden downpours and strong winds. These elements can pose a risk to your healing scalp, potentially leading to infection or dislodging of grafts.
Tips:
Carry an Umbrella: Always have an umbrella with you to protect your scalp from unexpected rain.
Avoid Windy Areas: Strong winds can carry dust and debris, which may irritate your scalp. Try to stay indoors on particularly windy days.
Be Gentle When Drying Your Hair: If your hair gets wet, gently pat it dry with a soft towel. Avoid using a hairdryer until your doctor gives the all-clear.
4. Hydration is Key
Why It’s Important: Hydration is crucial for overall health, but it’s especially important after a hair transplant. The Gold Coast’s climate can be dehydrating, particularly during hot summers, which can affect your recovery process.
Tips:
Drink Plenty of Water: Aim to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day to keep your body and scalp hydrated.
Avoid Dehydrating Substances: Limit your intake of caffeine and alcohol, as they can contribute to dehydration.
Moisturize Your Scalp: Once your doctor approves, use a gentle, non-comedogenic moisturizer to keep your scalp hydrated.
5. Hair Washing and Care
Why It’s Important: Proper hair washing is vital to prevent infection and promote healing. However, the Gold Coast’s water can be hard, which might affect your scalp’s recovery.
Tips:
Use Filtered Water: If possible, wash your hair with filtered water to reduce exposure to harsh minerals found in hard water.
Follow Your Surgeon’s Instructions: Adhere strictly to the washing schedule provided by your surgeon. Typically, you’ll start with a gentle rinse a few days post-surgery, gradually transitioning to a more thorough wash.
Use Gentle Products: Opt for mild, sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners that won’t irritate your scalp.
6. Follow-Up Care
Why It’s Important: Regular follow-up appointments with your hair transplant surgeon are crucial to ensure your scalp is healing properly and to address any concerns.
Tips:
Attend All Scheduled Appointments: Even if you feel like your scalp is healing well, it’s important to attend all follow-up visits. Your surgeon can spot potential issues early and provide guidance tailored to your specific needs.
Communicate Any Concerns: If you experience unexpected symptoms like excessive redness, swelling, or discomfort, don’t hesitate to contact your doctor. Early intervention can prevent complications.
7. Nutrition and Lifestyle
Why It’s Important: A healthy diet and lifestyle can significantly impact your hair transplant results. The Gold Coast’s vibrant food scene offers plenty of healthy options, but it’s important to choose foods that promote hair health.
Tips:
Eat a Balanced Diet: Focus on nutrient-rich foods like leafy greens, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Foods rich in vitamins A, C, D, and E, as well as biotin and zinc, are particularly beneficial for hair growth.
Avoid Smoking: Smoking can impair blood flow to the scalp and delay healing. If you smoke, consider quitting or at least cutting back during your recovery period.
Stay Active: Light exercise can boost circulation, which is beneficial for hair growth. However, avoid intense physical activity for at least a month post-transplant.
8. Patience and Realistic Expectations
Why It’s Important: Hair growth after a transplant is a gradual process. The Gold Coast’s relaxed lifestyle can help you stay patient, but it’s important to maintain realistic expectations.
Tips:
Understand the Timeline: It’s normal for transplanted hair to shed a few weeks after the procedure. New growth typically starts after three to four months, with full results visible after 12 to 18 months.
Be Patient: Everyone’s hair growth rate is different. Avoid comparing your progress to others and trust the process.
Celebrate Small Wins: As you notice new hair growth, take time to appreciate the progress. Every stage of recovery brings you closer to your desired results.
Conclusion
Caring for your scalp after a hair transplant requires diligence, especially in the Gold Coast’s unique climate. By following these tips and advice, you can protect your investment and ensure the best possible outcome. Remember, post-transplant care is just as important as the procedure itself, and with the right approach, you can enjoy a full head of healthy hair for years to come.
For more information and personalized advice, consult with a trusted hair transplant specialist in the Gold Coast. They can provide guidance tailored to your specific needs, ensuring a smooth and successful recovery journey.

How to Use a Hair Mask
Using a hair mask is simple and straightforward. Follow these steps for best results:
Shampoo: Start by washing your hair with a gentle shampoo to remove any dirt, oil, and product buildup.
Apply the Mask: Squeeze out any excess water from your hair and apply the hair mask evenly from roots to ends. Use a wide-tooth comb to ensure even distribution.
Massage and Relax: Take a few moments to massage the mask into your scalp and hair. This not only feels luxurious but also helps stimulate blood flow to the scalp, promoting healthy hair growth.
Time to Soak: Leave the mask on for the recommended time (usually 5-30 minutes, depending on the product). Use this time to relax and unwind – perhaps indulge in a good book or a cup of tea.
Rinse Thoroughly: After the designated time has passed, rinse out the mask thoroughly with lukewarm water. Be sure to remove all traces of the product to prevent buildup.
Condition (Optional): Follow up with a conditioner if desired, although some hair masks are formulated to be used without additional conditioning.
Style as Usual: Once your hair is rinsed and towel-dried, style it as usual. Notice how much softer, smoother, and healthier your hair looks and feels.
Conclusion Incorporating a hair mask treatment into your weekly hair care routine is a simple yet effective way to achieve the beautiful, healthy hair you've always wanted. Whether you're dealing with dryness, damage, or just want to add a touch of luxury to your self-care routine, a hair mask is the perfect solution. Sensitive Skin Solutions: Dermatologist-Recommended Products and Practices
Sensitive skin can be a daily challenge, often reacting to environmental factors, skincare products, and even stress. If you're among the many who deal with sensitive skin, you're not alone, and there are effective solutions available. In this blog, we'll explore dermatologist-recommended products and practices to help you care for your sensitive skin, keeping it calm, healthy, and radiant.
Understanding Sensitive Skin: What Causes It?
Sensitive skin is a common condition characterized by skin that's prone to irritation, redness, burning, or itching. It can be produced by various factors, counting:
Genetics: Some people are simply born with more sensitive skin, and it can run in families.
Environmental Factors: Harsh weather, pollution, and UV radiation can trigger sensitivity.
Skincare Products: Certain ingredients in skincare products can irritate sensitive skin.
Underlying Skin Conditions: Conditions like eczema, rosacea, and allergies can make the skin more sensitive.
Tumblr media
Dermatologist-Recommended Products for Sensitive Skin
Dermatologists recommend specific products and ingredients that are gentle on sensitive skin. Now are about key products to reflect:
Cleansers: Opt for a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser that won't strip your skin of natural oils. Look for products labeled as "hypoallergenic" or "for sensitive skin."
Moisturizers: Choose a moisturizer designed for sensitive skin, preferably one with ceramides, hyaluronic acid, or glycerin to hydrate and strengthen the skin's barrier.
Sunscreen: Protecting sensitive skin from the sun is crucial. Look for broad-spectrum sunscreens with physical blockers like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, as these are less likely to cause irritation.
Fragrance-Free Products: Avoid products with added fragrances, as these are a common cause of skin irritation.
Minimalist Formulations: Simplify your skincare routine with products that have minimal ingredients to reduce the risk of irritation.
Products with Calming Ingredients: Seek products containing calming ingredients like aloe vera, chamomile, or oat extract to soothe sensitive skin.
Best Practices for Sensitive Skin Care
In addition to using the right products, adopting best practices can significantly benefit sensitive skin:
Patch Testing: Before trying a new product, perform a patch test on a small area of skin to ensure it doesn't cause a reaction.
Gentle Cleansing: Cleanse your face with lukewarm water and a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser. Avoid hot water, which can strip the skin's natural oils.
Pat Dry, Don't Rub: After cleansing, pat your skin dry with a soft towel instead of rubbing, which can cause irritation.
Hydrate Promptly: Apply a moisturizer while your skin is still slightly damp to lock in moisture.
SPF Every Day: Wear sunscreen daily, even on cloudy days. Reapply every two hours when outdoors.
Avoid Over-Exfoliating: Limit exfoliation to once or twice a week, using a mild exfoliant suitable for sensitive skin.
Avoid Hot Baths and Showers: Hot water can exacerbate sensitivity, so opt for lukewarm water in the bath or shower.
Cotton Clothing: Wear soft, breathable fabrics like cotton to reduce friction and irritation on the skin.
Manage Stress: Stress can exacerbate skin sensitivity. Engage in stress management techniques such as meditation or yoga.
Professional Dermatological Treatments
In addition to at-home care, dermatologists can provide professional treatments for sensitive skin. These treatments are tailored to address specific concerns and may include:
Prescription Medications: Dermatologists can prescribe topical creams or oral medications to manage conditions like eczema or rosacea.
Laser Therapy: Laser treatments can help reduce redness, spider veins, and improve the overall texture of sensitive skin.
Chemical Peels: Dermatologists can perform gentle chemical peels to exfoliate the skin and promote a healthier complexion.
Skin Barrier Repair: Some dermatologists offer treatments aimed at repairing the skin's barrier, which can enhance its ability to protect against irritants.
Allergy Testing: If allergies are suspected to be a trigger, dermatologists can conduct allergy testing to identify potential culprits.
Conclusion: Nurturing Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin requires a bit of extra care, but with the right products, practices, and professional guidance from a dermatologist, you can keep it calm, healthy, and radiant. By understanding the causes of sensitivity and adopting a skincare routine that prioritizes gentle, soothing products, you can minimize irritation and enjoy the benefits of beautiful, sensitive skin.

“mingi, i don’t think that’s a good idea,” seonghwa fretted as he watched over the bunny in the kitchen.
“trust me, hyung! i know what i’m doing,” mingi reassured.
“no, i’m telling you; it’s not ready to—”
paying no mind to seonghwa’s warning, mingi took the spatula, wiggled it under the still-cooking pancake and proceeded to flip it. since it wasn’t done cooking, the batter was still runny and it splashed everywhere once the pancake hit the pan.
“—flip...” seonghwa trailed off after witnessing the depressing scene. mingi let out a sheepish chuckle as he nervously side-glanced seonghwa, who had his head down in slight disappointment.
“this is why we need jiyu in the morning...” hongjoong mumbled from the couch, yunho nodding along with him while trying to suppress his laughter.
seonghwa grabbed the paper towel roll and handed it to mingi, who silently started wiping off the batter that splashed onto the stove. “it’s a miracle she’s not witnessing any of this right now otherwise we’d be banned from the kitchen.”
at the same time of the four of them struggling to make breakfast, jiyu felt an ominous feeling in her gut while at work. “i hope they’re okay,” she scratched her head before continuing to type up medical reports for their new incoming hybrids. i did leave a note telling them i had to leave early, but i didn't have a lot of time to make them breakfast...i hope they don’t burn the kitchen down...
the telephone on her desk rang, snapping her out of her worries. she cleared her throat and picked up the call. “hello?”
“hey, ji,” yeonjun’s voice sounded from the other end. “how much space is there left in the hospital and feral wards?” he asked. in the background, jiyu could hear frantic movements and growls. she furrowed her eyebrows. just where was yeonjun? he only left with the rescue team to pick up the new hybrids that were supposed to be admitted into the recovery center.
“there’s still quite some space left even after the new group of hybrids,” jiyu skeptically answered. “why? and where are you and the rescue team? you were supposed to come back a while ago. the pick-up center isn’t that far from here—”
“long story short,” yeonjun interrupted, “we came across a group of hybrids on the side of the street. poor guys were pretty...battered up and not in the best condition. hence the growls you hear, but we somehow managed to convince some of them we wanted to help.”
jiyu nodded as she processed the information. “so along with the new patients, we have more?” she asked, pulling up a software on her monitor that allowed her to see the available space left in the recovery center. “how many are there?”
“about six,” yeonjun said. “we had to anesthetize two of them since they came for our heads, so they might end up in the feral ward while the other four just need to be hospitalized and psychologically treated.”
jiyu quietly sighed. “alright, i’ll get their documents and rooms ready,” she said before hanging up. stretching her arms above her head, she sent off a quick text to the group chat to let the four hybrids know that she would most likely be coming a home a little later than usual.
for the next hour or two, jiyu frantically ran around the facility center prepping the rooms for the additional six hybrids: sanitizing, cleaning, and getting new bedsheets and pillows for six rooms proved to be harder than she had anticipated. not only that, she also had to write up their facility registration documents.
by the time yeonjun and the rescue team came back, she was already exhausted and it was only noon. she greeted the new hybrids before showing them to their designated rooms. out of the bunch, she saw six hybrids covered in gashes, dirt, and even blood on their body and clothes. she frowned and grimaced at their condition before carefully taking the four conscious, yet skeptical hybrids to their rooms. as for the two hybrids that were deemed feral, she and the other caretakers carefully took their unconscious bodies to their rooms and laid them down on their beds.
jiyu had to admit, one of the unconscious hybrids caught her attention. he seemed so ethereal and elegant, despite being asleep and covered with injuries. after helping all the new hybrids settle down and treating the six’s injuries, jiyu ungraciously fell into her chair and let out a tired sigh. “kudos to the staff that clean and prepare all the rooms for the hybrids,” she mumbled as she laid back in the chair.
yeonjun sat down at his desk. “sorry about the last minute additions,” he sheepishly said. “but they looked like they would’ve passed out any second.”
“it’s fine, i probably would’ve done the same,” jiyu reassured. “do you know what happened to them?”
“there was a squirrel hybrid; i think his name was taehyun. all he said was that they came from a breeding facility, but it was illegal, so...” yeonjun trailed off. he didn’t have to continue for jiyu to understand.
jiyu bit the inside of her cheek at the news. an illegal breeding facility is no doubt connected to the black market, which makes tracing their location difficult. much like the blood pirates that hongjoong came from. “if they escaped, then we might have to double up on security again. there’s no doubt they have target on their backs,” she said, rubbing her forehead.
being part of an elite recovery center as kq meant they sometimes dealt with dangerous situations regarding the hybrids they take in. it wasn’t unusual for the recovery facility to deal with a few dangerous people here and there that demand their hybrid back, despite them being the reason their hybrids were there in the first place.
“yeah, i’ll let the patrollers know,” yeonjun said. “we split the six up amongst the caretakers,” he said as he looked over the registration documents. “you got the fox hybrid. we don't know their names yet.”
jiyu remembered the fox hybrid that had captured her attention as they were bringing him to his room. there was an aura about him that drew jiyu in—perhaps it was his well-defined features and elegance as a fox hybrid.
suddenly, the office door slammed open and chanhee, frantic and out-of-breath, peeked in. “jiyu! the fox hybrid is awake, but he’s on a rage and none of us can calm him down!” he explained.
jiyu immediately shot up out of her seat and ran out the office towards the feral ward. “got it, thanks chanhee!” she called out to him as she ran pass him. approaching the room the fox hybrid was assigned to, she pressed in the code and the door swung open to reveal the hybrid curled up in the corner. it looked as if a tornado had come by with how scattered and messy everything was.
the fox hybrid’s pupils were dilated, a sign that his fox side had taken over to protect him from harm. jiyu took the time to observe his features: he had a blonde mullet that accented his golden fox ears on his head, and his facial features reminded her of a statue with how define and sharp they were.
she stood outside the room in case he came running for her. surveying the mess in the room, she sighed. “i cleaned the room two hours ago and now it’s a mess,” she tiredly commented to herself before figuring out what to do about the hybrid in the corner. he was eyeing her like how a predator would eye his prey.
strange enough, his gaze reminded jiyu of seonghwa when the first met.
she put her hands up to show the hybrid that she was unarmed and harmless. she took small steps towards the hybrid. “calm down, buddy. i won't hurt you. none of us will, actually. if we did, we would’ve done something when we had the chance.”
the fox hybrid paid no attention, only growling louder at her words. suddenly, without warning, the fox hybrid shot up from his sitting fetal position and lunged at jiyu. grabbing the anesthetic syringe from her breast pocket (that she luckily kept in there for emergencies), she loosened the cap before pushing the hybrid back towards the bed with all her force. luckily, caretakers were trained on how to safely deal with a feral when they attack.
the fox hybrid swung at her with his other clawed hand, but missed when jiyu leaned away. pinning the struggling and growling hybrid to the bed, jiyu uncapped the syringe and plunged the needle into his arm, injecting the anesthesia into his bloodstream. a few seconds later, the hybrid’s struggling lessened and he fell unconscious once again. his claws slowly disappeared, his nails and fingers returning to human ones.
falling over next to the unconscious hybrid, jiyu closed her eyes for a second from exhaustion. “i just got deja-vu from that...” she mumbled before standing up and tucking him into bed. his sleeping face was so peaceful and calm, unlike a few minutes ago.
“he’s like a carbon copy of seonghwa,” she mumbled as she took one last look at the sleeping hybrid before closing his door. “only a fox.”
that night, when she came home, anyone could feel the exhaustion radiating off of her. after tiredly greeting the four hybrids who were watching tv, she immediately went to her room and fell onto her bed face-first. the four carefully peeked into her room.
“ji, are you okay?” hongjoong hesitantly asked. none of them have ever dealt with an exhausted jiyu before, so they were unsure of how to approach her.
jiyu gave them a thumbs up, not lifting her face off the bed. “just dealt with a seonghwa junior today,” she said, her words muffled by the mattress, but they caught it.
hongjoong, mingi, and yunho gave seonghwa a confused stare, while seonghwa was confused himself. he stared back at the three and pointed to himself. “i have a twin?”

Chapter 3 -- Introductions

Sleep. Ah, blissful sleep. The Holy Grail Danny had spent his entire high school life looking for, and that still eluded him from time to time. That wonderful feeling when he just collided on his bed after a long day of balancing his secret identity and his civilian one, of ruling over a race whose reputation had earned him the contempt of many, of fighting rebellious spirits...To just let the tiredness wash over and slumber take him was pure bliss.
Could there be anything more amazing?
At this point Danny’s perfect day had evolved from the amazing activities normal people looked forward to ーgoing to the beach with friends, binge-watching an entire season-worth of episodes in a day, ice skating…ーto the simple joys in life, such as getting a full night’s sleep (maybe even sleeping in, if he was lucky), going to the Nasty Burger with Tucker, and just having a normal day.
But, as an aggravating sound would remind him, those days were far and in between.
Twisting around in bed, eyes tightly shut and his face forming a grimace in annoyance, the halfa did everything in his power to ignore that damned noise. Trying hard as he might, there was no turning off the volume of that obnoxious beeping. Giving up, he reached out a hand from under his covers to tap the snooze button. The fucking alarm clock; his worst enemy after Plasmius. And the second most annoyingーthat title belonged to the Box Ghost.
Stifling a yawn with his hand, he got out of bed. Half-heartedly rummaging through his closet, he picked the first thing he could find and went inside his bathroom, having no choice but to start a new day. Once inside, he locked the door and took one look at himself in the mirror, well, as good as a look through sleepy, half-lidded eyes could be. He was greeted by the sight of his ghost form’s nuclear white hair and glowing green eyes. Seeing his reflection, Danny jumped back in surprise, until he remembered the previous day’s events.
After officially meeting the Witch Queen he decided to crash in his lair in the Ghost Zone, too exhausted to return home.
He attributed not realising it sooner to his chambers’ appearance. Soon after he became the Ghost King, he was instructed to create a lair of his own; to cement his current position as ruler among his subjects, and to have a place where they could go in case they needed his help that wasn’t Fenton Works. Clockwork helpfully pointed out that keeping his secret identity from his parents and the citizens of Amity Park would be considerably more difficult if the ghosts had to look for him around town whenever they needed him.
It was also Clockwork who gave him the idea of designing his lair taking himself as inspiration. “Try creating something both familiar and completely foreign; such as your own condition.” the Ghost of Time advised wisely, “Combine things that remind you of your human halfーtry not to make it very obvious, while you’re at itー with the sort of elements typical of the Ghost Zone.”
And hence, he created his lair.
On the outside it looked like a house belonging to the neighbourhoods he and Tucker grew up in, but on the inside he drew inspiration from Pariah Dark’s castle. Only it wasn’t nearly as frightening, just lavish enough to give the impression that someone powerful resided there. But his favourite room was, without a doubt, his own. An almost exact replica of the one at FentonWorksーthe main difference being that this one had its own bathroom and a few large one-way windows he used to oversee his realmー Danny could feel at ease. And, again, it explained why he hadn’t noticed he wasn’t back on Earth. That, and the sleepiness, of course.
Shrugging, he summoned the twin circles of light to surround his body, the familiar, chilly sensation running down his spine. Once he was Danny Fenton again, he stripped off the clothes he’d worn the previous day, got into the shower, and got the water running.
As he showered, his mind raced back to the previous day. In particular, to his meeting with the Queen of the Witches of Amity Park. She was a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. Even with his alter egos, both of his identities were fairly well-known in the public eye. Danny Fenton was the son of Amity Park’s most notorious ghosthunters, not necessarily for their skill or captured ghosts, but his parents had certainly always been very present around town. With their ghost conferences and pep talks, their field trips searching for ghosts around town, that one time they felt like dressing up like back in the 80’s and embarrassed him and Jazz in the middle of the Nasty Burger just because he’d forgotten his wallet…
Between his parents, puberty, and his new-found ghost powers, his teenage years sure were a blast...
And speaking of ghost powers, there was Danny Phantom. The ghost boy that one day appeared out of the blue, first seen fighting a giant meat monster. The public menace who once attacked the mayor. The spectral intruder who trashed Axion Labs, got one of its employees fired, and was responsible for the rise of the Red Huntress...who also happened to be his sorta-kinda-maybe-it-was-complicated ex-girlfriend. The young hero who valiantly fought against the terrifying, tyrannical Ghost King and defeated him, saving both worlds in the process...only to be then crowned King of the Ghost Zone himself and ignite the ire and distrust of the town whose respect he had just won not even a week prior.
The very same Ghost King who was still doing his best, day after day, to protect everyone from the most malicious ghosts who still challenged his rule. But did anyone care? Well, aside from a, thankfully, ever-growing fan club, if the burn he’d received the other day courtesy of none other than Valerie Gray was any indication...Nope.
Summing up, Danny was fairly well-known.
But the Witch Queen, on the other hand… The only reason he even knew of her existence or where to find her was because he’d found a few pages of Sojourn’s legendary journal flying around the Ghost Zone while he investigated the cause for the numerous portals opening. According to the wandering ghost’s notes, although there were several covens scattered throughout the globe, one in particular had settled in Amity Park after years of travelling around the colonies, fleeing from an event they called ‘The Great Burning’. Although Danny had no idea what that was, even if it did sound bad, what caught his attention was both their abilities, therefore his idea to ask them for help, and the last place Sojourn saw them before continuing on with his own search. He remembered his own eyes widening at the location. A location he knew from personal experience.
The fact that his messenger actually delivered the letter was pure luck, though. For all the halfa knew, the witches could’ve left Amity Park in the centuries between Sojourn’s disappearance and his accident.
Reaching his hand to the faucet, he turned off the water. He grabbed the nearest towel and wrapped it around his lower half while he used a smaller one to dry his hair off. Then he grabbed his clothes from the floor where he put them and got dressed. Combing his unruly hair with a hand, since he had long given up on doing anything with it, he stared at his, now, fully-dressed human reflection.
He looked the same as his fourteen-year-old self, except for the more defined physique that came with daily ghost fights. At least there were some perks to getting your ass handed to you on a regular basis. The only other thing that changed was his wardrobe. It was still casual, he wasn’t going to start wearing Giorgio Armani suits anytime soon (it’d make him look like Vlad), but more grown-up, too. In his sleep-induced blindness he managed to pick up some decent clothing: a baby blue shirt over a long-sleeved, white undershirt, dark blue jeans, and beat-up red sneakers. Not bad.
He left the bathroom after brushing his teeth in the sink. Walking down the corridors on his way to the kitchen, his mind went back to his encounter with Lady Arcana. When he became king, Frostbite served as a tutor of sorts. The leader of the Far Frozen made sure he knew everything he would need about the Ghost Zone and its history to be an effective leader. It was because of his lessons that he even knew who Sojourn was! But, most importantly, it was thanks to them that he learned of the existence of witches.
And what he’d learned about them and what they’d done...it was so horrifying he couldn’t blame the ghosts for having a grudge against them that kept them apart for centuries. Thanks to what he’d read and was told about them, Danny knew what to expect from the spellbinding group of women.
Witches were scheming, often fooling people into making a deal with the devil (figuratively speaking, that is) in exchange for things their clients would never be able to afford. They were selfish: the Witch Queen herself only cared about what happened to her people, never mind two entire dimensions! Much like Vlad, they only showed interest in a confrontation or making a deal if they had the upper hand.
Frostbite had every right to be wary of his decision to ask them for help. After all, not only were the witches malicious, they were dangerous. Even if they lacked the standard ghost abilities such as flight, invisibility, and intangibility; their knowledge of magic was enough to give any ghost a hard time. And it was said that the Queen was the most dangerous of them all…
Danny could definitely attest to that. Although he hadn't seen her in action per se, he could feel an inner strength radiating from her the moment they locked eyes. And the way she fiercely fought for her people's safety only proved that. Even if he really found it selfish that she only cared for her people’s sake, Danny had to admit, it made sense, it even made her a good ruler. The only reason he cared about both worlds was because he lived in both worlds. Had he been fully human or fully ghost, deep down he’d only have cared about whatever dimension he belonged to.
Despite all the red flags and warning signs, there was this part of him who truly believed Lady Arcana (what an odd name) was his only hope. He just hoped that part of him had some kind of clairvoyance and wasn’t just indigestion or something.
“Your Majesty, you’re awake!” A high-pitched voice broke him out of his musings. Looking around, he realised he was in the kitchen and the voice belonged to Dora, his maid. “I wasn’t sure what you’d like to eat, so I made everything I could think of.”
When his eyes landed on the food served on the table, he almost had to do a double-take. She sure went all out… Before him lay a carton of milk, eggs cooked in all ways imaginable (fried, scrambled, boiled, Benedict eggs…), over a dozen toasts, a few jars of different jams, bacon, pancakes, around three boxes of cereal, and an arrangement of fruit and juice.
Mouth watering and eyes as big as the saucers set down on the table, he turned to the ghost maiden, “When did you have time to do all this? Did you even sleep?”
The green-skinned spirit raised a hand to politely cover her mouth, chuckling in amusement. “My Lord, you forget we ghosts don’t sleep. So of course I had time to do this.” She smiled at his flushing face, embarrassment for having forgotten about that apparent on his features. “But, please, don’t trouble yourself with such things, your Majesty. Just sit down and eat.”
He did as he was told before reaching out for a few toasts and strawberry jam. He actually hated toast, but then again, that was probably because the Fenton Toaster always made them way too dry. As Dora poured some coffee on his glass, he spoke up, ignoring he was speaking with his mouth full. “I thought I told you to just call me ‘Danny’”, he swallowed, “We’re friends, Dora, remember? You are under no obligation to treat me as anything but that.”
Princess Dorothea, or Dora, was a ghost he met back in freshman year of high school. The first time they met her magical amulet got him in trouble, since it transformed his former crush into a dragon whenever she got angry. The next time they met, though, was when her asshole of a brother was looking for a bride but, being too out of the loop to try online dating, he forced her to organise a beauty pageant with him as the judge. When he defeated Aragon and freed his kingdom, he also freed Dora, who swore to be his ally after that. And the moment he rose as king, she offered to be his maid.
“I know, but what can I say? My brother kept our kingdom in the Dark Ages for 1600 years. Old habits die hard, I suppose.” She defended.
“But you have no trouble keeping up with the current time’s peech pattern.” He pointed out.
Dorothea just shrugged in response.
They stayed in silence for a while after that. While Danny ate his breakfast, Dora cleaned the kitchen. It was usually like that when he stayed in the Ghost Zone long enough to need the kitchen running. Looking at his cellphone, Danny almost spat his food. In an instant, Dora was by his side, making sure he didn’t choke. “Shit! I’m gonna be late!”
With that, he quickly finished his plate with a quick “See ya!” thrown at Dora and transformed, flying around the Ghost Zone until he could make out the Fenton Ghost Portal in the distance. It was still a little early for his parents to be up and running around the lab, so he didn’t have to turn invisible once he reached the lab. Phasing through the ceiling, he was about to make it to the door when the sound of footsteps startled him.
“Danny? Is that you?” came his mother’s voice.
Panicking slightly, he dropped the transformation. By the time his parents came down the stairs, he was nervously waiting for them at the door, fully human. “Hi, Mom. Hi, Dad.” He waved at them with a nervous smile. “Good morning.”
“Good morning, Son.” Jack patted his son, who almost reached his 6’1 height, being 5’9 now, on the back. “Did you sleep well?”
“Um, yeah. Fully rested. And you guys?”
“Oh, you bet, Danno!” the Fenton patriarch exclaimed as he poured himself a cup of coffee. “I dreamed I had that putrid, ectoplasmic apparition of a monarch right where I wanted him; with an ecto-blaster aimed right at his forehead!” Jack boasted, completely ignoring how his son suddenly lost some colour in his face.
Sipping at her own mug of coffee, Maddie chimed in, “We didn’t hear you last night. Did you come too late from college, sweetie? Did you need anything?”
Danny rubbed the back of his neck nervously. Although he’d got much better at lying to his parents over the years (a fact he hated), that didn’t mean he felt comfortable doing it. “Yeah, sorry. It was late when I was done studying at the university’s library, but before I could get into my dorm I realised I didn’t have the keys with me.” He explained, hating the way the lie naturally rolled off his tongue. “I came here thinking I must’ve forgotten them the last time I came to visit, but no such luck. Anyway, it was too late to return so I decided to crash. Hope that’s okay with you guys.”
His mother went over to place a kiss on his forehead, mug still in hand. “Don’t be silly, honey. This is your home! You’ll always be welcomed here.”
Jack came to stand beside his wife, a hand resting on her shoulder. “That’s right, Son. We were just a little confused. We didn't hear you coming in, that’s all.”
“Care for some toast?” Maddie offered.
“No, thanks. I already ate, besides, I’m gonna be late for class.”
“Then don’t let us keep you! See you later, Danno!” Jack said with a wave of his hand at the same time as Maddie said, “Bye, sweetie! Come back soon!” After closing the door behind him, he swiftly hid behind a nearby car to transform before leaping into the air and speeding up towards APU (Amity Park University). He wasn’t lying when he said he was going to be late.
Besides, he’d promised Tucker he would meet up with him and someone he was dying to introduce him to today.
...............................
When her alarm clock blared, Sam lazily reached a hand out from her covers to hit the snooze bottom. As the weariness wore off, she arched her back in an attempt to stretch and barely managed to cover her mouth as a yawn came to her. Yanking her red comforter aside, she got up from bed and walked towards her vanity, getting ready to start a new day.
Flopping down her chair, she hazardly opened her eyes to stare at her reflection. An over-sized Humpty Dumpty t-shirt she used to sleep hanging low from one of her shoulders; her disheveled black hair sticking out in disarray; a clammy, pale face contrasting greatly with the dark circles under her eyes… “Aren’t you a sex symbol, Sam.” She drawled sarcastically.
Well, things could only get better from there. Walking over her closet, she picked out the clothes she’d be wearing for the day and then got into the shower. Once she was out and dry, she sat back down her vanity chair and picked up her brush. People always said handling straight hair was easier, but they were wrong. Oh, they were so wrong. Untangling her onix mane was a challenge fit of Hercules himself, with all the tugging it required; case on point, whenever Paulina or Star had to work on her hair, they always marveled she wasn’t already bald.
With her hair taken care of, Sam slipped on her favourite tank top, a black one with a purple circle in its centre. Then came her pants; a pair of black shorts that were ripped at the sides she complemented with a white belt sporting a skull-shaped belt buckle. After that she slipped on a pair of thigh-length purple socks and her favourite steel toe combat boots; black with a row of three buckles on each side. When it came to accessorizing, Sam opted for her trademark black choker and bracelets and a purple opera glove on her left arm; Star recommended it, saying, “there’s just something so fashionable about asymmetry.”
Last but not least would be her make-up. Sam went for her usual style; not too over-the-top, but not too bland either. And so, she carefully applied a heavy coat of eyeliner and mascara on her eyelids and lashes, respectively; and her trademark violet lipstick. Now, the only thing left to do was the spell.
After listening intently and making sure no one was coming, Sam conjured in hushed tones, “Mutatio speciei.” With that, a swirly mist enveloped her head and, where once were her back-length inky locks framing her face, was now a different hairstyle. While the right side of her face remained the same, her left side was shaved with purple undertones, a tiny green ponytail in a purple scrunchie sticking out. Her lavender eyes had been replaced by a pair of hazel ones, and due to her hairdo, the two orbital piercings decorating her lower lobe were visible.
Satisfied with her look, she stood up from her chair, closed the door behind her, and descended the stairs to her kitchen. Yes, her kitchen. Not the one at the clan’s manor. While the large mansion located at 917 Maple Street, which the citizens of Amity Park believed to be an abandoned townsend place that could be rented for Halloween (they had to get funds from somewhere), served as her coven’s headquarters, training grounds, and shelter, the relatively lavish home in the upper class part of town was when she was raised.
In fact, every single witch had a house outside of the manor, for it was crucial to keep their identities hidden. Since having purple eyes and ebony hair was a huge giveaway of her real identity, Sam had to perform that one simple shapeshifting spell to make sure nobody ever recognised her. And now that Danny Phantom had seen her face, even if he didn’t know her real identity, all the more reason to be careful.
After her talk with the king of the Ghost Zone, Sam was almost tempted to think he was someone she could trust. Almost. Even with the explanation of their worlds depending on each other to exist, the Witch Queen still didn’t cross out the possibility of having been lied to. Phantom was known for being capable of anything if it saved the day. And lying to the leader of a tribe of magic users was sure to be nothing for him.
Even if he’d seen a lot less arrogant than he gave the impression of whenever he battled a rogue ghost, with all those puns and the constant taunting, he acted rather...humble towards her. He didn’t even show signs of animosity until she tested the waters and sneered at his kind. But that didn’t mean she was going to let her guard down around him anytime soon. If there was one thing dating that lying, good-for-nothing, Hungarian wannabe had taught her, it was that when something seemed too good to be true, it usually was.
After setting a carton of soy milk, a bowl with cereal and an apple down on the kitchen table, she sat down on her chair. Her dad, Jeremy Manson, read the newspaper with a steaming mug of black coffee beside him. Registering movement from the corner of his eyes, he lowered the paper. “Good morning, Sammy. Did you sleep well?”
Sam sent her dad a small smile. “Yes, Dad. How ‘bout you?”
Jeremy lifted a shoulder up, a nonchalant expression on his face. “Oh, you know… Same all, same all. It’s a bit harder to sleep when your mother’s away, planning events. But that’s how it is, isn’t it? While I oversee the company, she takes care of the social gatherings. We’re a great team like that.” He stated proudly.
“Yeah. You sure are…” Sam commented despondently. She didn’t have the heart to see what being married to a witch meant for her dad. Even though Jeremy was a true Manson, being Ida’s only child, the fact that he was a man meant he had little to no affinity to magic, and therefore, he could never be a part of their clan. The closest he got was marrying Pamela, a witch from a lesser family he somehow fell in love with. Neither Sam nor her Grandma put it past her that she’d been purposely hunting him down, since not only was he the Queen’s son, but Ida’s own father had been a successful and wealthy inventor.
Her Grandma often told her the main reason she accepted her mother was because she, somehow, made her dad happy and she’d given her the most wonderful granddaughter anyone could ask for.
Grandma Ida, on her part, always did her best to show her son how much she loved him, but their circumstances made it very difficult for them to spend time together; especially because Jeremy didn’t even know his mother was a witch. And neither did any other man involved with a woman from their clan, for that matter.
Being part of a secret, women-only tradition made it very difficult for them to have normal lives. It was imperative that the coven never died, which meant they needed children. There were only two ways of doing so: either a witch went downtown in search of a one-night-stand during her fertile days, or she used her civilian identity to start a family. The latter alternative also meant she’d have to protect herself and her children from a possible betrayal, hence, there was a special spell designed to keep their husbands in the dark when it came to their wives and daughters’ activities. In the worst case scenario, that is to say, that they’d been caught doing something suspicious or even performing magic, their partner was bound to forget all about it.
That was the reason why her dad thought Pamela was out planning social events for the sake of the company when, half of the time, she was actually in the manor. It was also the reason why he never commented on the way his daughter’s appearance would constantly change in ways it shouldn’t.
“I like what you’ve done to your hair.” He suddenly said, before taking a gulp of his coffee. “Did you use that new eco-friendly shampoo you wanted to try?”
Sam couldn’t help but smile at the way his father, who was incapable of remembering or realising certain things due to a spell, never failed to realise others. Especially if it concerned her. “Yeah. It’s got passion fruit, blackberries, and I don’t know what else.”
“Well, I like it!”
“Thanks, Dad.”
“I’ve been thinking,” Jeremy started, giving his daughter his full attention with a soft smile on his face, “since your mother said she’d be busy next Saturday, what do you say we go check out that new vegetarian restaurant you wanted to try out, um?”
Sam’s entire face lit up at that. “Are you serious?”
The blond man chuckled at his daughter’s child-like excitement; it’d been too long since the last time he saw it, “Yes, why not? I’m free that day and you’re always saying how much you want to go. So, what do you say? Do you have any extracurricular activities planned?”
‘Extracurricular activities.’ That was what she and her mother said whenever they talked about her role as the Witch Queen around the house. “I think I’m free, too. Sounds great, Dad.” The young woman smiled at her father warmly.
It was ironic, she couldn’t help but think. Due to all her responsibilities now and growing up, Sam never got to spend much time with her father; she was always near Pamela or her grandma. And yet, she was much closer to him, who actually made an effort to understand and encourage her interests ーespecially if Pamela wasn’t aroundー, than her mother. Then again, perhaps it was precisely because they weren’t together often that she was closer to him. Maybe she’d feel as suffocated around him otherwise.
After all, wasn’t that what people always said? ‘Distance makes the heart grow fonder’?
“Got any plans for today, Sammy?”
“Oh, you know, same as always. Go to class, pay attention in class, go to the library, my...extracurricular activities,” she coughed nervously at that, “come back home, and repeat.” Taking a bite of her apple, her eyes suddenly widened as she remembered something important. “Shit, I almost forgot! Today I agreed to meet up with a friend and someone he wants to introduce me to!”
Sam facepalmed herself. How could she have forgotten about that?!
“First of all, language.” Jeremy admonished her lightly. “And second, then I guess your day won’t be the ‘same as always’ after all.”
The raven-haired girl snorted at her dad’s sense of humour. Dad jokes. They weren’t her cup of tea, preferring witty remarks and dark humour, but they did the trick. Sometimes. “I guess not, Dad.”
“And who’re you meeting up with, kiddo?”
“Oh, my friend Tucker. I don’t think you know him because we mostly hang out at campus. Last week he came to me to ask me for a favour.”
“What sort of favour?” The blond middle-aged man raised an eyebrow, suspicious.
“He wants to introduce me to a friend of his. Apparently, he’s writing a paper on a subject I know quite a lot of.” She was just surprised there were classes teaching her subject of expertise that she wasn’t already a member of.
“His friend’s writing a paper on environmental law? Then you probably know them already!” Jeremy stated, setting his newspaper down.
“Dad, I’m in college, not high school, remember?” She sent him an amused look. “Even in  regular classes there’s tons of people I don’t even know the names of.” Sam was tempted to tell him Tucker’s friend was probably not writing about environmental law, either, but she held her tongue. Better play along.
“Well, have a nice day anyway, honey.” He pointed at the clock hanging from the wall with a knowing smirk. “You should hurry up, too.”
Following the direction his thumb pointed at, Sam barely held herself back from cursing again. Eating the remaining food in a couple of large bites, she lunged herself out of the house the moment she grabbed her purple, spider-shaped backpack from a nearby chair. Once outside, she slid her arms through the straps before adjusting them. And with that, she ran to the nearest bus stop.
She couldn’t be late.
...................
“Did you have fun last night?”
The bespectacled young man watched as his best friend all but threw himself face-first at his bed on the other side of their room. A groan was all he received as a response. With a sigh, he set his tablet down on the table, directing his full attention to the exhausted half-ghost in front of him. “Could you please repeat that? My Groan-ish is a bit rusty.”
With great effort, Danny rose his head from his pillow, shooting a tired glare at Tucker. “Not in the mood, Tuck.”
“I’m gonna take that as a ‘no’”. He said before getting up from his chair to grab a mug and pour Danny some coffee. An intense espresso with no milk or sugar. Just like the dolt was addicted to.
Their room was an average one. Two beds, each on either side of the room; a kitchenette as you opened the door to step inside whose only appliances they used were the fridge and the microwave, both college students being way too dangerous to be trusted with their daily food. Each of them had a little, wooden desk on their respective side to work on projects and study, and in the middle of the room was a modest table where they ate.
When they first stepped foot in, he and Danny knew the room would undergo some major changesーor as big as the campus’ rules would allow. As time went by, though, only Tucker’s side looked almost identical to his own room back home. But since Danny often ended up crashing in his lair in the Ghost Zone or back at Fenton Works, that was to be expected. Case on point, while Tucker’s side was filled to the brim with screens, computer parts, wires, and the occasional top secret ghost-hunting project; Danny’s only way of telling there’d been some kind of change since they first got the room were his clothes in his drawers, and the occasional space and rock band poster on the wall. Other than that, it couldn’t be any more impersonal.
When he offered the mug to him, Danny snatched it from his hands like a dehydrated man in the middle of the desert would snatch a water bottle. “Correction: I’m gonna take that as ‘rough night doesn’t even begin to cover it.’”
“You have no idea…” Danny said in between gulps of caffeinated goodness. “Remind me again why I thought organising a meeting with the Witch Queen on a Sunday, knowing full well I had several killer classes the next day, was a good idea?”
“Probably because the rest of your week was booked anyway.” Tucker replied offhandedly as he grabbed his chair and got it closer to Danny’s bed. Spinning it around so its back was facing his best friend, he flopped down, a smirk on his face. “Speaking of, how was it? Was the Witch Queen as much of an old troll as we suspected?”
Turning around on his back, Danny rolled his eyes. “I’d wiー” he stopped himself short; one never knew when Desiree was lurking. Clearing his throat, he went on, “I mean, if only. That would’ve made talking to her easier. But, no! She had to be a purple-eyed, hottie brunette!”
Tucker perked up at that. “Wait, she was hot?” A nod from Danny. “Dude, that’s awesome! Wait a minute. Are we talking about Paulina-from-high-school hot, or regular hot?”
“Believe me, there was nothing regular about her.”
“So she was Paulina-from-high-school hot.”
“No, they’re completely different. Lady Arcana ーyeah, that’s her name. Don’t give me that look; I’m not the one who came up with it!ー has the kind of looks that come with a warning sign: ‘you can look, but if you so much as lay a finger on me, you’re dead.’”
“Okay,” Tucker drawled, “So, again, she’s basically Paulina-from-high-school hot.”
Danny shook his head. Tucker wasn’t there, so of course he wouldn’t get it. “No. If you got on her bad side, Paulina would throw the football team at you. Lady Arcana looked like she could kill you with her bare hands.”
The technophiliac tapped his finger against his chin pensively, registering the new information. “I see, so she was drop-dead gorgeous, but in a literal sense.”
“Are her looks all you’re going to fixate on?” Danny asked flatly, before conceding, “But yes, that is a more accurate way to describe her.”
Seeing as his friend was having none of it, Tucker limited himself to raising his palms up in a placating manner. “Sorry, dude. Just trying to dissipate some of the tension coming off of you. Serious talk, now, though. How did it go?”
The blue-eyed young man ran a hand through his jet-black hair, groaning. “Fine, I guess?”
The techno geek frowned. “Fine, you guess? What’s that supposed to mean? Did she or did she not agree to help you?”
“She did.” Danny nodded, but the uneasy expression didn’t leave his face.
Now it was Tucker who wasn’t having none of it. “So? Come on, man! Isn’t that supposed to be a good thing?”
“I don’t know. Frostbite has warned me several times now that asking the witches for help might bite me in the ass...Not with those exact words, of course, but you get the idea.” He elaborated as he repositioned himself on the bed until he was seated on it and facing Tucker.
“So you’re afraid that might happen now.” Tucker guessed.
Danny nodded. “But that’s not all. I have the feeling I might have brought this on myself.” Before Tucker could get a word in, the halfa stopped him with a raise of his hand. “I mean, I already knew I’d be risking a potential betrayal the moment I sent that letter butー.”
“Letters,” Tucker scoffed in disbelief. “In the 21st century. Only for that I already have a feeling I would never get along with one of them.” When he noticed Danny’s withering glare directed at him for interrupting him, the teal-eyed young man smiled sheepishly at him. “Uh, sorry.”
With a roll of his eyes, Danny went on. “As I was saying, I already knew what was on the line when I wrote to her, but I had a plan, you know? If she refused, I’d just have to look for an alternative. But if she didn’t, then I would keep my guard up. But something happened.”
He took Tucker’s silence and his raised eyebrows as a sign to continue. “She agreed to come to the Ghost Zone, she and two other witches came to the Ghost Zoneー.”
“Only two?”
“That’s what I said. Anyways, as I was trying to explain the problem, she basically made it clear that the issue with the portals was none of her business and made her way to the door.”
“None of her business?” Tucker echoed in disbelief. “But of course it’s her business. If there’s a problem in the Ghost Zone, that means the Earth’s next! How could she act like she wants nothing to do with the matter?”
“But that’s just the thing!” Danny pressed. “At first glance, it looked like she didn’t know. After I explained things to her, she seemed far more willing to associate herself with me, albeit very reluctantly.”
What was it with his best friend and never making sense? “Okay, so she accepted. She’s going to help you out. Care to enlighten me in regards to what the problem seems to be?” The techno geek crossed his arms, not following.
“I was getting there!” Danny defended. “The problem is that I was supposed to go on with my life if she said no. Well, she said no, and I practically begged her to help us!”
Okay, that sounded more serious, and not only because it must’ve been a huge blow to Danny’s ego. “Why’d you do that, dude? She’d just given you your ticket out of your,” he paused, thinking better of what he was going to say, “of your second death sentence.”
The halfa just shook his head, groaning. “I don’t know, Tuck. It’s just...One second she was making her leave, and the next there was this voice in my head that panicked. There was this...this...feeling that only she could be of help. So, against all common sense, I stopped her and tried reasoning with her. And now I’m stuck working with a woman who will not hesitate to stab me in the back with her magic wand.”
“Whoa. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say it was fate and you two are destined to be together.” At Danny’s murderous glare, Tucker burst out laughing. “I..I’m sorry...m-man! It...it’s j-just...t-too good!” He said in between wheezes.
Danny huffed. “As if! Lady Arcana might be pretty, but she is so not my type. Too brooding, with too many trust issues, and far too willing to kill me for real. The less I have to interact with her, the better.”
Sometime during his rant, he closed his eyes as he folded his arms over his chest as he leaned back on his wall, maybe to drive the point home. When he opened them, though, he found Tucker’s smirking face. The sight unnerved him; that was not what he was expecting to see. “What?”
“Are you sure she’s not your type?” The bespectacled young man asked in a teasing tone. “‘Cause you just described Valerie, and, unless my memory fails me, she was so your type back in high school.”
His smirk only widened at his blue-eyed best friend’s dark scowl. “Shut up, Tuck.”
Tucker threw his arms up in surrender, the teasing grin never leaving his face. “I’m just saying, man. Valerie has been hellbent on vaporising you with her ecto-guns for years and that didn’t stop you from crushing on her and giving her lovesick puppy looks even after she ‘broke up’ with you for the remainder of high school.”
Danny rolled his eyes at the reminder. “Trust me, Tuck. Falling for the Queen of the Witches of Amity Park would be like falling for Vlad.”
They both shuddered at the thought.
Finally, Tucker decided to let the issue go with a shrug of his shoulders. “Whatever you say. Just don’t forget we’re meeting up with Sam in an hour.”
That took Danny aback. “With whom?”
Exasperated, Tucker rolled his eyes. “Sam.” He repeated. “You know, that friend of mine I met last year in the library? When you told me you might be working with witches to solve the portal problem I arranged for us to hang out together.”
“Okay, now I remember. What I don’t remember, though, is how this ‘Sam’ is going to be of any help.”
“Dude! Sam knows a helluva lot of stuff about the occult! Probably because she’s a Goth…” He added then, as an afterthought. “Trust me, if there’s someone who can help you take whatever the Witch Queen throws at you, that’s her.”
Danny sighed in defeat. It wouldn’t hurt to try. “I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to be on time for once, would it?”
“No, what would hurt is making Sam wait.”
Suddenly, Danny wasn’t so sure this was a good idea.
..........................
The You Mocha Me Crazy was one of Amity Park University’s hidden treasures. While most people gathered at the several Starbucks Coffee establishments spread throughout campus, only a few students knew of the Mocha’s existence or gave the quaint café the time of day.
A small store in the outskirts of campus, near the Law building, the café had more than enough to be the perfect place to relax, or hang out with friends. On the right corner of the store was the counter where people asked for their coffees, with a stand dedicated to displaying the day’s assortment of cakes, sweets, and sandwiches. On the left corner, in contrast, lay a small stage, surrounded by several tables and chairs, that was usually used for the café’s weekly Open Mic nights every Friday. On Open Mic night customers could do basically anything; read their poetry aloud, organise gigs for their bands, try some stand-up comedy… Anything, really. There weren’t organised events for each different artistic approach because the shop was well aware of its obscure status; they didn’t want to attract too much attention.
Summing up, the You Mocha Me Crazy screamed individuality and integrity, which was why Sam was hopelessly in love with the place. The fact that it also had a varied, high quality vegan menu didn’t hurt, either.
“Hi, Sam! Same as usual?” Robert, the barista that was usually manning the counter when Sam went to the café, asked her once it was her turn to order.
“Actually, I’ll start with just a macchiato with soy milk. I’m actually introducing this place to someone and I wouldn’t like to have already ordered without them here.” Sam corrected gently, smiling at him.
“You’re meeting up with someone?” The barista’s eyebrows raised in surprise as he hit the code into the cashier. “Have you found yourself a boyfriend this past week I haven’t seen you around?” He teased her goodnaturedly.
The hazel-eyed witch shook her head slowly with a small smile on her face. “Nah, I’ve been way too busy.” That wasn’t a lie. “Besides, you already know dating is the last thing on my mind at the moment.” That wasn’t a lie, either. “A friend of a friend of mine needs help writing a paper, so we’re going to meet up.”
“Yeah, that makes more sense. I mean, you made it pretty clear that you weren’t looking for a boyfriend when you turned me down.” Robert pouted. For a moment, Sam was worried he might still be hurt over it, but his teasing wink soon put her mind at ease.
She felt comfortable enough to joke around a bit herself. “Oh, please! You say the craziest things, Robert. As if I could ever choose somebody else over you; where would I get free coffee then?”
With an amused expression, the young man set her order down on the counter. “Here you go, Sam. Enjoy!”
Taking her drink, she threw him a quick, “I will, thanks!” and a generous tip as she made her way to a three chair table. Sitting down, she brought her laptop out of her backpack to work on her latest assignment to kill some time as she waited for Tucker and his friend to arrive, taking gulps of her drink now and then.
Her friendship with Tucker was an odd one. And by odd she meant they couldn’t be more different, they couldn’t have met in any weirder circumstances, and they couldn’t get along any better.
Sam met Tucker the previous year, during finals. She was busy studying at the library for her Law and Policy of Climate Change exam when this guy approached her.
He was an African American man around her age. Though he wasn’t what most people would identify as an Adonis, he wasn’t hard on the eyes, either, just...not necessarily Sam’s type. He wore thick-framed glasses, a white dress shirt under a mustard vest, fern green pants, black dress shoes, and a worn-off, red beret.
What truly was odd about their first meeting was that Tucker had tried to hit on her, and Sam didn’t even try to break his arm! When she told Paulina and Star about it the next day, the Latina was crying tears of joy while her blonde counterpart made sure their queen didn’t have a fever.
She had to stop him in his tracks the moment he tried setting up a date with her in a nearby grill. At the mere mention of her being ultra-recyclo-vegetarian, he immediately lost all interest. Despite everything, though, they started talking and, even if they couldn’t be more different ーTucker was majoring in engineering with a minor in computer science, Sam studied environmental law; Tucker was a bigger carnivore than a Tyrannosaurus Rex, Sam didn’t eat anything with a face; Tucker believed in progress through technology, Sam was all about an ecological agenda…ーthey hit it off just fine. After that day, they often texted each other or hung out around campus.
Today, however, was the first time she’d be meeting his famous best friend and roommate; Danny.
Sam was woken up from her reverie by the chime of the door’s bell. Looking up, she noticed Tucker, who happened to be wearing the very same outfit from the day they met, and a guy who happened to tower over him. Oh, great! She was going to be surrounded by giants!
Once they stepped foot inside the café Sam had told him to go to, which had to be on the edge separating Earth from the Ghost Zone, judging by how far from the dorms it was; Tucker looked around until he spotted a purple, gloved hand waving at him. There she was. Nudging at Danny with his shoulder, he pointed at the table where Sam was at before waving at her himself and making their way over.
Taking a good look at who she guessed was Danny, Sam had to admit, he looked kinda cute. With his unkempt jet-black hair that was either natural or a product of countless hours styling it in front of the mirror; the defined lines of his body, the awkwards yet somewhat assured way he carried himself…
The moment they made it to her table she got up. “Took you guys long enough. Did you have trouble finding the place?” She said as she pulled Tucker in for a hug. Normally she wasn’t one for physical affection, but she hadn’t seen him in over a month, so it wouldn’t kill her to be a bit more affectionate for once.
“Well, we would’ve arrived sooner if you’d told us this place exists in its own place of existence.” Tucker rolled his eyes as he broke the hug, his hands resting on her forearms. “I think coming here should qualify as physical exercise; my high school gym teacher would be so proud!” He pretended to wipe a tear from his eye in mock nostalgia.
While Sam rolled her eyes with a knowing smile on her face, she noticed Tucker’s friend chuckling beside him. “Please, Tuck...Knowing Tetslaff, she wouldn’t be proud unless you came here riding a monocycle at the same time as you juggle snakes.”
“Sad but true.”
“You must be Danny,” Sam addressed him for the first time since they entered the café. She held out her hand for him to shake, “Tucker has told me a lot about you.”
“Should I be worried?” Danny joked with a small grin as he took her hand.
The moment their hands touched, however, a familiar sensation ran through their spines. There was something familiar about the, seemingly, natural cold radiating from Danny’s body; and an unexplainable wave of heat coursed through his body the moment he touched Sam’s skin.
Now that he took a closer look, there was something familiar about her as a whole. As if they’d already met. Which was strange, because he was sure he’d never be able to forget a girl with a look as unique as Sam’s.
Before he could ask her, however, Sam beat him to it. “Have I met you before? ‘Cause you look really familiar…”
Somehow, that made more sense. With an uneasy smile, Danny tried to will the embarrassed blush creeping up on his face in line. “My name’s Danny Fenton. The Fentons, the ghost-hunters, are my parents. They...appear on TV often.” Although, in their case, it’s never something to brag about, he thought to himself.
Understanding seemed to dawn on her, for she exclaimed. “Oh, that must be it! Well, Danny, I’m Sam. Sam Manson.”
“As in Samantha?” Danny was immediately confused when Sam’s lazy grin morphed itself into a nasty frown.
“Yes. But call me anything other than Sam and I will bury you six feet under.” Something about the way she said it made him understand she would keep good on her threat. Why was he only meeting dangerous girls lately?
Looking down at their still intertwined hands, an impish grin on his face, Tucker thought it was the perfect time to intervene. “If you guys are done memorising each other’s footprints through physical contact, I’m starving.” He turned to wait in line. “Come on, Sam. You promised this place had food that’s not necessarily green and leafy.”
Looking down themselves and realising they were still shaking hands, the two young adults snatched them away, as if they’d been burned, muttering awkward apologies to each other.
“Yeah, come on...Let me show you what they have.”
As the three waited in line, Danny cleared his throat to get Sam’s attention in an effort to alleviate the sudden tension Tucker’s comment had caused. “Just so you know, I’m not here because I wanted Tucker’s help at picking up girls; I really need your help writing this paper. The topic is a bit hard to find in a school library and Tucker said you really know your stuff, so…”
Sam could only snort at his awkwardness. There was something endearing about his dorkiness, not like she’d ever admit it, though. She meant it when she said she wasn’t looking for a boyfriend. Besides, cute dork or not, Danny was too...normal, for her taste. “Oh, relax. I know that already. I wasn’t suspecting you of having ulterior motives; don’t worry.”
“Really?”
“Of course. I mean, do you seriously expect me to believe anyone would ask Tucker for help when it comes to picking up girls?” Putting a hand on her hip, she couldn’t help but laugh at the sheer ridiculousness of it all. “Please, I’m more popular with the ladies than he is.”
“You don’t say.” A devilish grin made its way to Danny’s face, who was looking at Tucker with what could only be described as endless mischief.
Having heard Sam’s uncalled for comment and sensing Danny’s unforgiving eyes burning a hole on his head, Tucker huffed, crossing his arms indignantly. “Okay, okay! That one cute girl did give you her number instead of me. But I’m not going to complain about not being dating material to a cute lesbian; that’s pitiful.”
“Actually...she was bi.” Sam corrected him, almost doubling over in laughter at the sight of Tucker’s eyes comically snapping open. By her side, Danny was doing a poor job trying to stifle his own snickers. “She just wasn’t into you.”
Under Tucker’s withering glare, Danny cleared his throat in an attempt to appear nonchalant. Once he got his laughter under control, he turned to Sam. “Oh, you’re comfortable enough to make jokes at Tucker’s expense! Either you two are good friends...or you two literally just met.”
Turning away from them in an indignant huff, Tucker muttered. “Introducing you two to each other has been a terrible mistake.”
Neither could help bursting out laughing at their friend’s comment. Sharing mischievous smiles, eyes twinkling in amusement, Danny and Sam stared at each other. Maybe they weren’t each other’s first choice for company, but something told them something good would come out of that coffee date, even if it wasn’t really a coffee date since, well, they weren’t looking for a partner in each other. But, hey, they both could use a new friend.

Bathroom radiators were considered status symbols previously, but in present days, it becomes a necessity for mostly all homes and bathrooms in the UK. Hence, selecting the radiators for your bathroom, home, or kitchen, you need to make a careful selection.

The reason for choosing the best brand, type, and size of radiator is necessary as it helps in saves your large energy bills, quickly heat your room, keep your towel warm, and gives a contemporary touch to your home.
In addition, you should consider several important factors before finalizing your selection. The factors include radiator type, BTU requirement, fuel type, and suitable valve. Remember, rooms with high ceilings require more power to heat the room.
You can choose contemporary electric heated towel radiators or Traditional Column Radiators for your modern or classic bathroom in the UK.
With increasing needs for radiators, you will have great options to buy the best radiators, such as Reina Luxury Designer Aluminium Electric Towel Radiator.

Selecting electric towel radiators, central heating radiators, or dual fuel radiators depends on the existing heating system. Choose the best brand of radiators, towel rails, or warmer such as Burlington heated towel rails, DQ heating towel warmers, Redroom, Bayswater, Burlington traditional radiators, etc.
Choosing towel rails or radiators depends on your room type. For your kitchen, living room, or hallways, designer radiators work efficiently while for your en-suite or bathroom, you can choose heated towel rails or warmer.  You will get different colors and finishes to choose the radiators that best suit your home interiors.
You need efficient thermal heat in the room that you utilize most. Those rooms, which you use occasionally require less heating while places like a bathroom require sufficient heating.
Tumblr media
Choosing the size and wattage of your luxury electric towel radiators depends on your room size, insulation quality, and property location. Using a BTU calculator, you can measure the exact requirement of power output, and based on that you can determine the size of radiators. Always keep sufficient heating capacity when choosing the radiators. With less heating power, your radiator takes more time to heat your room, which raise your electricity bills.
In addition, electric radiators are easy to install. They can quickly install and do not require any plumbing work. The fitting process is faster, cheaper, and less troublesome than central heating.  Take the help of an experienced electrician to install luxury electric radiators in your bathroom. For that, you can go for Electrically heated towel rails, Designer Heated Towel Rails, or Luxury modern electric heated towel rails.
The key benefit of an electric radiator is that they require less maintenance. They don’t produce carbon monoxide as they don’t require fuel-burning elements.
They don’t need any safety checks, which are essential in fuel-based central heating systems. Thus, if you are looking for an ideal and secure heating solution, electric radiators & towel heating rails are best options.
Electricity can be generated by all renewable power sources, hence, obviously, they become eco-friendly options and can also work using green energy, such as solar panels, hydropower, or wind turbine. CHAPTER ONE
Don’t forget to call me when you make it there safe!”
My mom yelled out at me as I scrambled to the door in a rush. A bag was on my shoulder full of hidden alcohol I had wrapped inside of towels, along with some snacks. I was currently on the way to see the pogues, unknowing to my mother who thought I was visiting the Cameron’s with baked goods.
I had lived in the Outerbanks for only a few weeks and the slang I had accumulated from hanging around the island still felt alien to me. My mother was a Interior Designer for one of the biggest home renovating shows in America, so moving around was nothing out of the ordinary for me. We had traveled from California to Ohio and my mothers next big project was none other then the North Carolina coast.
I had only met few people in my time on the island. On the second night of my stay I was greeted by a blonde girl who I soon placed as Sarah Cameron. The resident princess of the island; at least thats what I picked up on from listening to the Pogues. She was kind to me, it was a short exchange at the market. She recognized me as someone who wasn’t local and told me to text her if I ever needed help finding my way around the Outerbanks. We exchanged numbers and she left in a car of others in a rush.
Bringing me to my very first group of people I met on the island. My new house was in a place called Figure 8 and my next door neighbor was Kiera Carrera. One day while I was moving boxes into my house, I looked back and saw a Kiera on her porch she was in some sort of argument with her parents. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop but their voices were anything but quiet. She was in a fight with her parents as she made her way down the steps. They shouted words that I didn’t understand at the time like “pogues” and “kooks” and “midsummars”.
All I knew was that I had been through what she had and I wanted to tell her it was going to be okay. Although it was none of my business, I waited for her parents to go inside as I placed the box of antiques down and made my way to the curb she sat on. I spoke to her about my parents divorce and I told her that it was okay to feel the way she was feeling. Our exchange led to her inviting me to her friend John Bs house. I don’t know why they added the B in John but I didn’t bother to ask. I met John B, and two other guys at his house. It gave me a close feel to a cabin with a tropic twist if that makes sense. John B was genuine, he told me stories of his father and welcomed me into his home with his arms open. On the other hand JJ was skeptical at first taking a minute to warm up to me because of the place where my home resided. He explained to me how the Kooks were selfish, rich people and the Pogues were the ones always ready for a good time on the island. He was fairly good looking but I shook away that thought because I could feel tension between him and Kiera. He then offered me a drink and told a few jokes that made me ugly laugh. Pope was the last boy I was acquainted with, he struck me as intelligent and determined. He seemed more worried of what I thought of them, telling JJ to calm down at times and asking Kiera questions about me. Overall the group and I had a good time and I left a good enough impression to be invited back.
Which leads me back to where I was headed. Kie invited me to a giant get together, they called it a Kegger which was just a party in Pogue language. I hopped inside my car and made my way to the beach, looking for a spot that others hadn’t found out about yet and parking. Shutting my car door and hitting the locks, I slung my backpack around me and followed the crowd. Which would’ve been the only way I knew where I was going if it wasn’t for the massive bonfire that was radiating smoke. I walked down to the secluded area and around the corner of a building saw hundreds and hundreds of people.
this has to be half of the town.
Quickly my anxiety began to creep up inside of me. As strange as it sounded because I moved all the time, I was very nervous around new people. Taking my shoes off of my newly tanned feet I stepped into the sand. I searched the beach squinting looking for the familiar faces of John B or Kiera but I was out of luck. I excused my way through strangers hoping I would run into one of the four Pogues. Digging my fingers into my hands and tugging at my backpack, I began to grow impatient.
Suddenly interrupting me from my intruding thoughts was a warm substance seeping down my white top. My eyes were met with a tall boy, who’s shoulders were broad and hair was slicked back. He held a bottle of beer in his hand as his blue eyes were set on my top.
“Oh no, I’m so sorry!”
I blurted out, it was my fault he had spilt his drink after all. I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going causing me to ram into the guy.
“I should be the one apologizing, here come with me my sister probably has a extra shirt.”
He then proceeded to grabbing my hand and pulling me through the crowd of guests.
This guy was really hot if I had to admit, his collared polo complimented his body and his hands were filled with veins. Not to mention he had on a ring, A RING! I normally didn’t try to involve myself with boys because of how much I moved around. Having to leave the last boyfriend I had behind was gut wrenching, but… I could make an exception. It had been forever since I had been with any guy and I was craving something a little more than holding hands.
As we pushed past the final few people we stopped around and empty area. The boy looked off into the distance at a girl on top of some sort of wooden post and a blonde guy struggling to get her to come down. In fact, I knew that girl. It was-
“Sarah! Come here!”
I was startled by the loud outburst beside me. Sarah was his sister… That must’ve meant he was Rafe. Dammit.
flashback
“Every Kook is BAD, now repeat after me”
JJ had a very strong opinion about the richer class, I wonder what the reason was. What about Sarah Cameron, she seemed sweet.
“I met this girl named Sarah the other day, she was actually really welcoming.”
“Sarah CAMERON?”
Kiera blurted in sort of a grimace. She didn’t seem to be too fond of her.
“Sarah Cameron is the epitome of a snobby, entitled little brat. She always gets whatever she wants and doesn’t care about anyone other then herself.”
Kiera seemed to share a popular opinion amongst the Pogues based on their reaction to her outburst. They all nodded their heads in unison.
“Don’t even get me started on her brother Rafe! He is even worse, he treats the Pogues like shit and gets away with it every single time because he goes crying to his daddy.”
Her opinions on the two struck me as cruel. I didn’t know the two so clearly I couldn’t just defend them but, I didn’t like the way the Pogues spoke so poorly of the Kooks. It seemed wrong. Especially because when I met Sarah she was anything but a “brat”.
“Just don’t get involved with them. For your own good.”
JJ said, I could tell he was amused with making fun of the Cameron siblings. John B looked at my face and could tell something was off.
“Alright, Alright, I think you guys are started to scare the girl. Let’s go check out the waves.”
end of flashback
Sarah jumped off the pole without any regrets swinging around in what I assumed to be her boyfriends arms and making her way over to the two of us.
“Yes Rafe. What is so important that-“
Her gaze met mine.
“Alexis!”
She pulled me in for a hug quickly, my nose whiffing the smell of alcohol on her. Or on me.
“Hey Sarah”
“What happened!”
She exclaimed looking down at my shirt that was stuck to my skin.
“It was an accident,”
Rafe butted in.
“Rafe.”
She drug out in anger.
“We haven’t even met the girl for more than a second and you already have spilt your drink on her. Typical.”
I looked over at Rafe in pity for a split second but then I remembered this was a sibling thing to do. It was normal for brothers and sisters to argue, I didn’t know much about it because I was an only child.
“Shut up Sarah”
“It was my fault honestly, I wasn’t watching where I was walking.”
I nervously broke the tension. They both looked at me for a split second and then the silence was stopped by Sarah taking her shirt off. I was surprised by the Cameron girls boldness.
“Chill out girl, I’ve got a swimsuit and from the looks of it you don’t plus since Rafe did this too you he can kindly take you to his car so you can change.”
Sarah tossed me the top and ran for the water waving a goodbye with a warm smile. She was gorgeous, and she made me feel good. The Pogues seemed closed minded, and my views on things were beginning to shift since they were no where in sight, even though they said they were going to meet me here. Adding onto my perspective was the fact that Sarah and Rafe were there.
“She’s a handful. I’m Rafe by the way, which you probably gathered.”
His eyes were a little red, he must have been smoking. His voice seemed a little droopy but it was still sexy. My feet followed the direction of his as I held the shirt in my hand.
“Nice to meet you, Rafe. I’m Alexis.”
My voice was a bit shaky but confident. I liked to sound confident when I met others even though I wasn’t. We shortly arrived at his jeep, and he unlocked the doors.
“Can I put this bag down somewhere?”
I said picking the heavy weight off of my shoulder.
“Yeah, here let me see it.”
I rubbed my sore skin as he grabbed the bag and sat it in the trunk.
“Beer in the towels, huh?”
I looked back at him.
“Hey, who said you could be nosy?”
I playfully smiled at him.
“No one, but I was just curious what you were carrying around, I mean for all I know it could’ve been drugs.”
“You probably would’ve been happier with that outcome, huh?”
He laughed. His laugh. Holy shit his laugh. It was so hot.
“Can you grab me a drink?, I need one”
I asked desperately.
“If I can snatch one too then deal”
I nodded at his remark and hopped inside of his car grabbing the drink from his hand. I sat the drink in a cup holder as I took my soaked shirt off. I sat it to the side and then looked at my bra.
“Shit”
It was soaked too, I took it off as well praying it wasn’t getting any colder tonight as I slipped on the yellow tank top Sarah gave me.
I grabbed my drink, took a swig and opened the car door. I looked out and Rafe was already crushing his can sitting on the hood of the car.
“Want another?”
I offered reaching in my bag and extending my hand. He turned his head and looked at me for a few seconds. My hand waiting for release from the beverage but it never came. Then I realized why as I looked down at my shirt. You could see through. Before I looked back up he grabbed the drink clearly as embarrassed as I was.
“Yeah uh sorry”
His hand scratching the back of his neck as he opened the can. I brushed off the exchange and got up on the hood of his car with him looking at the party from afar taking another sip.
“So, you’re new ay?”
Rafe said.
“Yeah, I just moved here a couple of weeks ago.”
He wasn’t making eye contact with me and neither was I. It wasn’t uncomfortable though. The scenery was calm. The stars looked perfect and the sound of the faded party and waves were in perfect harmony.
“Who invited you here?”
“Just some people I met, they told me they would meet me but didn’t follow through.”
“Screw them. You should come hang out with us.”
His invite made me feel warm. I looked over at him taking a sip of the drink, I watched as it gilded down his throat. His adam’s apple bobbing. He was a masterpiece. I must’ve been looking a little too long because he whipped his head around at me. I quickly averted my gaze away embarrassed.
“Yeah I will definitely take you up on that offer, I can’t stand unreliable people.”
We were close. His hand smoothed it way to my knee. Yes please.
“Neither can I, good thing we are reliable. Even got you a new shirt.”
He stared back down as he made this statement clearly looking at my boobs. Quite frankly I was flattered.
“Eyes are up here buddy boy”
I cringed at my own words but being a couple of drinks in at this point I didn’t care.
“I know”
He said. His hand slid a little further up my leg placing on my thigh. Higher. and higher.
“You have a boyfriend?”
He asked, I laughed at this. Hard. My laugh was one of those laughs that sounded so stupid other people would laugh at it. So as I kept laughing he began to laugh as well.
“w-what”
His high was probably making my laugh sound even more strange then it already was.
“Nothing just that question is funny.”
BOOM
Both of us flinched as we looked away from eachother. That was a gun shot. I frantically got up.
“What the fuck, we need to get out of here”
Rafe yelled. I looked at him in a panic.
“What about Sarah!”
I shouted back.
“We will grab her in the car, now get in.”
The Pogues were still down there. I looked at Rafe as he sat in the car and looked down at all the people running away from the scene. I had to make a decision quickly.

Ritual Bathing
By Christine Owens
Since the beginning of civilization, people have understood the power that water has. It has been used to clean people both physically and spiritually. We see examples of this throughout history, from Roman bathhouses, which were built to cleanse the body, all the way to Baptism, which is a metaphorical way to cleanse  the soul. The idea of using water as a bathing ritual for body, mind and soul dates back to antiquity.
Rituals are created to give a sense of importance and value to something. In this case, what you are giving value to is the act of taking care of yourself. Rituals can also create a feeling of control, allowing a person to take charge in an important process. They can also be fun and relaxing, allowing for peace and joy to be part of something usually thought of as a mundane task.
Ritual Bathing is a process that acknowledges and cleanses both the physical body and the mind, allowing a person to have more control and clarity over their energy.
Ritual Bathing is specifically designed to cleanse away any spiritual parasites or tag-a-longs that do nothing but drain your vital energy and lower your vibrations and frequency.
When you expand your mind, are an empath or engage in ritual magic, it is important to think about detoxifying yourself on a metaphysical level.  It is important that you make sure you have a routine that can clear away any bad-vibe-barnacles from your energy!! So how is it done? Read on to learn what you need to do to have a squeaky-clean psyche!!
So, Here’s What You Need to Know About Ritual Bathing
When Should I Ritual Bathe?
Ritual bathing is something that should be done monthly, at least. You can use the Lunar calendar as a guide. There is a relationship between the moon, water, and energy. The gravity of the moon pulls on all of Earth’s water bodies, causing waves, ebbs, and tides. The same is true with the moon and psychic energy. Once a month, the moon disappears from our vision--a new moon.  This is the time of month that the moon supports the beginning and ending of phases and cycles. New moon nights are excellent times for Ritual Bathing, as this is the time when the Lunar calendar supports cleansing and renewal.  However, it is important that you are attuned to your own needs. Sometimes, things happen making it vital to cleanse your body, mind and soul immediately!  During these times, you should not wait for the Lunar cycle to guide you.  You should always listen to your own inner-self.
Here are some signs that it might be time for a Ritual Bath:
You find you are unusually depressed or anxious
You just ended a toxic relationship
You keep having intrusive thoughts, or negative self-talk that won’t stop
You keep having night terrors or nightmares
You find yourself losing motivation about things you've always cared about
You have had to spend a great deal of time around negative energy or low vibration-situations (due to work, school or family obligations)
You have been sick or are sick
You are trying to make a big change in your life that requires new thinking (a new diet, a new self-awareness program)
You did something you are ashamed of, have asked for and received forgiveness and are ready to move on
You are trying to learn the art of self-love
You have experienced something traumatic that you wish to separate from
You are making a personal transformation toward upgrading yourself
These are all times when engaging in the self-supportive act of Ritual Bathing can be crucial to maintaining or gaining your ability to reach your full potential.
How Do I Ritual Bathe?
Ritual Bathing will be different for everyone, as it is yours to design. It is great to take a long, ceremonious bath, but a simple shower can be just as potent. The most important part is making the statement of intention, of dedicating this process to the idea of cleansing your inner-self, and showing humility and gratitude to the Universe for giving you this opportunity.
Start by making sure the tub is clean and free of residuals, making sure that there is no hair in the drain.  Make it as clean as you can.
Create Your Statement of Intention
On a piece of paper, write down your intention, the goal you have. Don’t use negative language, and don’t place it in the future, place it now. For example, you don’t want to say, “I am going to get rid of bad residual energy from my ex”. Instead, write something like, “My energy is positive and strong and mine”.Speaking about the negative subject only allows a place for it in your mind, and speaking of it in the future implies that it’ll happen some other time.  It is much more powerful to own a positive statement in the here and now. Bring your slip of paper to the bath with you, and look at it a few more times.
Gather Your Bath Products
You can use your usual bath products, but it is best to include some special ingredients that are suited just for this purpose. The good news is, you can make your own! At the end of this article are several recipes that you can make for yourself. They are made of ingredients that are readily available and inexpensive, yet perfect for the job!
Fill the bathtub with water at a temperature that is comfortable to you, and add your formula.
Lower the Lights, Light Some Candles
Harsh lights have no place in the Ritual Bath. Turn off the overhead bathroom light, and set out some candles instead.  Safety first, though! Always keep in mind the flame, making sure it isn’t near any towels or the shower curtain. Also, avoid candles in glass containers. Little tea lights set on the edge of the tub work best. Set them in places where there is no risk of contact with flammables.  Simple, white candles are well-suited for this purpose and have the added benefit of being the easiest to find. And while you’re lighting the candles…
Light Some Incense or Sage
Native Americans burn dried sage during smudging, a ritual designed to cleanse people and places of negative or harmful spirits. Eastern cultures often use incense for the same purpose. An added aspect of burning incense is the idea that the smoke carries your message up to the gods. And, of course, incense smells good! Incense maintains itself as a capable tool in almost any ritual or rite.
Trying to find both pleasure and some symbolic action for all of your senses enriches and strengthens the rite you are performing. Make sure you smell the fragrance and visualize the smoke carrying your positive statement of intention up to the Universe. If you choose incense rather than sage, opt for a reputable brand that burns a natural product as opposed to harsh, artificial types. Meanwhile, make sure you have fresh air flow; bathrooms are often small spaces. You don’t want to over-expose yourself to smoke. Just use your common sense when burning incense.
Center Your Mind
Now that the tub is prepared and you have created an intention, you need to ready your mind. This is the time to take a final look at your slip of paper. Remember, no negativity! It is important to keep your thoughts positive. Don’t focus on the bad things, but rather, the good. It is important to have no judgement or bad feelings right now. Instead, focus on the positive experience of letting go of some things, accepting others. If you have trouble with guilt, anxiety or shame, this is the perfect opportunity to rid yourself of these harmful thoughts. Announce out loud or to yourself your new, stated intention. Hold the idea in your head, step into the water and...
...Just Take a Bath!
Take a moment to allow yourself to feel the warming comfort of the water on your body. Smell the aroma of your incense. Listen to the sound that the water makes as it splashes around.  Keep your eyes open and focus on the beauty of the shadow play created by the candles, or better yet, find something beautiful about yourself. This can be very powerful. Just find something small and focused, such as the lovely ovals of your fingernails, the perfect arrangement of your toes, or the strength of your legs.  The human body is a work of art. Everyone can find a place of beauty to focus on.  Let your mind clear as you fill your senses with the moment. Stay this way as long as you comfortably can. If you find yourself thinking about work or what to make for dinner tomorrow, gently guide your mind back and focus again on your present senses.
Now that your mind is clear and your body is relaxed, think again about your intention. Feel the water, as it comes in contact with you, carrying away unwanted vibes. Notice how you are beginning to feel clean and light. Own your statement of intention as a fact.
Relax in the water for at least 15 minutes, longer if you want.  It is important to remember that this is your design; you should never be uncomfortable. Your mind should stay positive, grateful and relaxed. This is the time that you have full permission to focus on YOU in a positive way. Outside problems have no place in this process.
When you have finished, drain away the water. After, stand in the tub and use a cup and fresh water from the spout or the showerhead and have a good rinse. As you do, imagine everything negative washing off of you.  Don’t think of anything specifically; rather, imagine a colorless haze washing off of you.  Watch the water and soap bubbles float away from you, pulling  negativity  away with them. Watch it all go down the drain, gone forever. Visualize golden or white light filling your head, throat, heart and hands. Feel the warm energy radiate through your body. Sense the clean, clear lightness of your body, mind and soul. It is important to OWN your intention now.  Make strong, positive statements in the present tense, such as, “my mind is clean and clear’, or “I am strong and capable”, or one of the most powerful statements, “I am good”.  And, believe it.  As you go on, try to not think about the negativity that you washed down the drain; this only invites it back to your mind. If you catch yourself doing so, simply go back to your positive statement. Don’t become upset with yourself, this just lends negative fuel to the thought. Concentrate on positive affirmations. Visualize yourself feeling and knowing that your body and energy are cleansed and in a state of homeostasis.  Realize that you are acting in the best interest of yourself, and that anything that no longer serves you is now gone.  Know these ideas as a fact. Don’t underestimate the power that water can have; our ancestors knew it’s strength. This is why water has always been a symbol of purity, cleansing and fresh starts in almost every culture.
What Now?
After you dry off, put on fresh clean clothes that are comfortable but make you feel good. Avoid television, junk food, or other pollutants. Taking the rest of the day or evening to allow these thoughts to manifest before exposing yourself to harsh things like television can give you a real advantage towards raising your vibration.  Now is a great time to think about new and positive phases you may be ready to embark upon. It is also a good time to sleep, journal or meditate.
As you learn to practice these positive life changes, you will find they start to replace all the old, negative patterns that once had you in a terrible rut.  The most important aspect is to not go back to the thoughts you had before your Ritual Bath.  Almost like a child playing pretend, you must know and own your new, cleansed mind.
Just like the moon renews itself, so must you. Taking the time to mindfully cleanse can support your mental, physical and spiritual self.  Aside from that, it can give you an advantage when trying to upgrade to your best, super-optimised self. At the very least, it allows you some serious down-time, and helps you create a sense of love for yourself, body, mind and soul.
  Don’t Forget
Whenever you perform a rite or a ritual, it is vital that you remember humility.  Remember, no matter how bad it seems, you are in a position to make things better. The very ability of creating a ritual, and the fact that you even want to do it, are strong reasons to be grateful.  There is no such thing as a coincidence, so if you are here, trying to better yourself, you have every reason to believe in yourself, and therefore, to be humble and grateful. The Universe has your back. So, bow low, and say “thank you”!
Recipes for Ritual-Bath
The ingredients for a Ritual Bath are not fancy; they are simple, from the Earth, and available to anyone.  Only some cosmetic corporation would want you to think you need to pay big money for optimal health.  Well, the Universe doesn’t want that!!!  Below are a handful of       simple ingredients.  You can use them alone or with your fave bath products!!  It’s all about what feels right to you!
Super-Cleansing Renewal
½ Cup kosher salt
½ Cup sea salt
10 drops of Essential oil (Lavender, sage, tea tree)
Measure both salts out into a bowl
Drop essential oil over salt, stir.  Put aside and let absorb for a few minutes
Use by filling tub part way, then pouring in under spout of running water as tub fills the rest of the way
Super-Energy Renewal
¼ cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide
4 tablespoons of powder ginger
½ cup apple-cider vinegar
10 drops essential oil (lemongrass, clove, orange)
Do not mix ingredients! Pour separately into tub as it is filling up. Pour under spout of running water, agitate further with your hand
Gentle-Loving Renewal
½ cup baking soda
¼ cup sea or kosher salt
5 chamomile or mint tea bags
Mix salt and baking soda together in bowl
Drop tea bags into water, or tie to spout so water passes through them as it fills up the tub.  Meanwhile, drop baking soda under spout of running water.  Agitate further with your hand
Lunar-Maintenance Renewal
1 cup kosher or sea salt
10 drops essential oil (frankincense, sandalwood, patchouli)
Measure salt out into a bowl
Drop essential oil over salt, stir.  Put aside and let absorb for a few minutes
Use by filling tub part way, then pouring in under spout of running water as tub fills the rest of the way
*If taking a shower rather than a bath, the dry ingredients from these recipes can simply be rubber banded into a square of cotton cloth (a wash rag or a cut-out square from an old  cotton t-shirt) and used as a body buff

huehuehue what a cute request anon! This was fun to write!
Rakuzan Manager!Reader at Multi-Team Training Camp Headcanons
It was the first time everyone was getting together in a long time, and you were excited to get to hang out with the rest of the GOM
Each of the teams had their respective coaches who would handle their training, so you would be coordinating with the other managers on the other duties
Of course, you and Momoi were pretty much the only managers that the teams had
When you first discussed your plans with Momoi, for whatever reason she had begged you to let her take care of the cooking
You didn’t feel super strongly either way so you were fine with her taking that role
You were quickly alerted to the errors of your thinking the very next day when a barrage of texts hit your phone
“_____-san, I implore you to reconsider your decision of leaving the cooking at the training camp up to Momoi-san.”
“_____-cchi wants us all to DIE!!! ˚‧º·(˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ )‧º·˚ I love Momoicchi but her cooking…we’ll all DIE!”
“Oi, _____! What kind of prank are you playing on us, having Satsuki be in charge of cooking?!?!?”
“Rarely do I lower myself to this level of pleading, but  _____. Even Oha Asa cannot save us from Momoi’s cooking.”
“_____-chin, I’ll crush you if you make me eat Momoi-chin’s cooking.”
“_____, it’s Kagami. I got your number from Kuroko. I’ve never had Momoi-san’s cooking, but I’ve had Riko-senpai’s and all I can say is….For the love of god, do not let that woman cook.”
“_____. Satsuki cannot be allowed to cook during the training camp. Even someone like Eikichi would rather starve than try her culinary…experiments.”
So it was again up to you to fix the issue, but every time you tried to talk to Momoi about it, she was so excited that you couldn’t break the news to her.
When everyone gathered for the training camp and you were all having your initial meeting, the sheer terror that was cast upon all the faces of the members present forced you to do the unbelievable
Tapping into your extremely poor acting skills to try and get everyone out of this predicament
“I can’t believe it!” You shout, startling everyone in the vicinity. “How could you…how could you do this?”
Throwing on the best villainous glare you could manage, you point at the boys with an accusatory finger. “I can’t believe that of all people…you would have Momoi-chan shoulder the entire burden of cooking for all of you! You’ll work her to death!”
“_____-chan, it’s fine-“
“No, how could I let this go in front of my eyes!” Forcing a sob past your lips, you throw your free hand around Momoi, tugging her dramatically into your chest. “It just pains me…to imagine my dear Momoi-chan, slaving over a hot stove for hours and hours…just to feed you ungrateful bastards!”
“Hey, what did you just-“ Kagami roared, but Kuroko quickly delivered a well-timed jab into his side.
PLAY. ALONG. YOU. MORON! You mouthed to Kagami, before quickly getting back into character.
“Momoi-chan, I’m so sorry. I put this undue burden on you because I simply did not understand!” Dropping your voice into a soft whisper, you grab Momoi’s hands and smile at her through watery eyes. “But do not fear. I will make sure that these heathens learn their lessons! I will protect you, with all that I am!”
Momoi’s eyes suddenly started sparkling, her mouth falling agape at your princely stance. “_____-chan….!”
“How could I let a single scrap befall your beautiful fingers?” Gently cradling Momoi’s hands, you place a light kiss on the back of her fingers. “Please, my princess. Allow me to take on this duty, as I cannot bear to see you overworked.” For the finishing touch, you press your lips to her forehead.
“_____-sama!” Momoi swoons, her cheeks flushed.
You were so caught up in your acting that it took you a second to notice that the crowd around you had gone very, very silent. Looking up, you noticed that several of the members were sporting light blushes on their cheeks, and-woah, did someone actually faint?
Thanks to your last minute and improvised scene, Momoi was mollified and you were designated as the cook instead during the training camp
You were relieved that it had all been settled, but then it hit you that all of a sudden, you had to cook for everyone
You thought your cooking was alright, but there were a lot of guys, a lot of tall, bulky, teenage guys who had black holes for stomachs
Your actions seemed like a gift from god to the basketball players that were there, and suddenly, all eyes were on you during the training camp
When you walked around refilling water bottles and switching out fresh towels, there was always at least one player who would appear at your side, rushing to assist you with your tasks
They didn’t even seem to care that you were technically from a different school, and you found it hard to turn them down because of how eager they were
Even calling you _____-sama, how embarrassing!
There were whispers among the players about how they wished you could also be their team’s manager
And of course, Rakuzan wasn’t taking this at all
“Um, did something happen?”
“We just wanted to eat with our lovely manager, _____-nee!” Hayama cheered, throwing an arm around your shoulder. “You’ve been working so hard for us, and your food is so good!”
“I’m glad you like it…” You reply, not used to having all the Rakuzan members sitting around you. Not that you had been eating alone, but most times Akashi would visit with the other members of the GOM, Nebuya would be fighting in some sort of eating competition with the other centers, and Mibuchi would flit around from table to table like a social butterfly.
So it was a bit of an adjustment to have all five of them surrounding you at the table.
“_____, if anyone tries to touch you, let me know.” Nebuya suddenly states, cracking his knuckles. “I’ve been aching for a good fight.”
“And you can’t brush anyone else’s hair except mine, ok?” Mibuchi huffs, grabbing your hands.
“_____. If anyone bothers you at all, for whatever reason, I will take care of it.” Akashi states calmly, and you swear you can hear something going snip, snip.
“…Thanks…?”
Following that event during dinner, you notice that you don’t get called out as much as before, which you feel better about since you weren’t sure how long you would be able to stand being called -sama
Another change was that whenever you were running errands, without fail, someone from Rakuzan would accompany you
Not that you’d need it because you were not a child and could take care of yourself, but it was hard to turn down Hayama’s puppy dog eyes, Mibuchi’s watery eyes, Mayuzumi just stared at you and didn’t bother replying, Akashi was…Akashi, and there was no way you could physically get Nebuya to budge (you’ve tried).
Eventually the training camp comes to an end on a good note
You’ve made some new friends, and Momoi had started calling you by your first name, stating how she was going to start visiting you at Rakuzan
You felt proud of how your team had done and how much they had grown during their time at the camp
As you were getting ready to load everything up, Akashi and the rest of the team comes up to you, telling you to leave all the heavy lifting to them
“Are you sure? It’s really not a big deal…”
“You’ve worked hard, _____. Please, go ahead and get on the bus. We’ll be there shortly.” Akashi says, leaving no room for argument.
Once the members have made sure that you’ve left the scene, they all share a glance before turning to the group of basketball members still gathered around.
“Before you all go, we have a friendly warning for you all.” Akashi begins, radiating a powerful aura.
“If anyone of you even THINK that you can take our lovely manager…” Hayama continues, an uncharacteristically dark look flashing through his eyes.
“_____ is a proud member of Rakuzan, and we will never let you get your hands on her.” Mibuchi’s voice is composed, but his eyes are certainly anything but.
“So don’t go getting any bright ideas.” Nebuya finishes, his figure as imposing as always.
“…We’ll kill you.” Mayuzumi adds, scaring most of the crowd due to his sudden appearance.

Do you have any headcanons on when Ecto and Higari got together or when they were younger?
Yep! Here are some
-I mentioned in a post with Higari’s family that Higari left for the city at 16 to go on UA’s support course. With him being raised in the country and the family still recovering from the passing of his dad Higari was very nervous and hesitant when he first joined UA. He was the awkward one in class, the outcast, he knew little to nothing about city life, the only thing he did know was his Uncle’s home (I have yet to draw out his uncle but hopefully can soon) where he was staying while studying at UA. I imagine Powerloader probably got bullied a little, being the shy quite kid he got unwanted attention, it never escalated to Higari getting seriously hurt, it was mostly stuff like name calling, throwing paper at him in class, people taking his seat, the worst it ever got was when he started to get pushed over in the hallways. With Higari still being emotional over his dads death lead to him lashing out, which then resulted in him getting in trouble. The bullying didn’t help Higari in classes either, and his anxiety made him forget things more easily, and his grades gradually began to drop.
-Ectoplasm on the other hand was the total opposite. I have my own headcannon for his parents and I don’t want to spoil too much, but basically his parents where very well off money wise and work in the music industry, hence why Ecto has a love for singing - they weren’t millionaires by any means, but they where well know for their occupations and thus had plenty of money. Because of this Ectoplasm was considered somewhat famous among his classmates, and maaaybe a teenie part of him enjoyed the attention at first. Unlike Higari Ectoplasm had a large social circle and was good at talking with people, though he never really felt like he had a propper close friend. With his parents again being well known and quite wealthy, Ectoplasm was never sure if someone was friends with him because they genuinely wanted to be, or because his family was wealthy. Ectoplasm in reality was also pretty lonely, but he’d accepted that making friends would always be difficult with who his parents where, so sadly, he’d come to accept the fact he may not ever really get a proper friend. He covers up his loneliness by studying, it helps him focus on something, and helps his grades improove - a win win. Ectoplasm didn’t really focus much on making friends during UA..until he meets a ginger haired support course kid in the library
-Their first meeting was very brief: Higari had gone to the library to try and find a book on mechanics and engineering to prepare for the end of year test that was coming up in a few months, if Higari failed to pass he could get booted from the course. Ectoplasm unlike Higari was a high achieving student, and Higari was one of the lowest. Ectoplasm who has finished collecting the books he needs walks past, sees Higari struggling to reach a book (curse his shortness), and so Ecto walks over and picks up the book for him. Higari timidly thanks him, before Ectoplasm nods and then walks away. It was the first real time Higari has actually had any kindness shown to him, so the memory of that day has stuck with him. Ectoplasm didn’t think too much on it, he just helped out, no big deal.
-The two reunite however during an class exercise a few days later, the hero course students would be paired with a student from the support course - the aim of the exercise was for the support course students to design a support item for their hero student they where paired with, and then present it as their final project. Higari was more confident in making things rather then paper tests, so he had a bit of confidence going into the exercise. Right before the pairs have been picked Higari notices Ectoplasm standing with the rest of the hero course students, and how a lot of the people from his class seem to be looking/whispering about him. Higari had never been in the city before and so knew nothing about Ecto’s wealth, he just figured Ecto must have been pretty popular. While the pairs are being picked, Higari hopes he won’t be paired with someone mean...and surprise surprise, he ends up being paired with Ectoplasm. For the rest of the day the students are given time to know their partner, and then discuss ideas for a support course item. Higari recognizes Ecto as the kid from the library a couple of days back but is to shy to bring it up, he probably forgot about him anyway. The two introduce themselves, and thats when Ecto makes the comment on how Higari looked familiar. Higari was a bit flattered he’d been remembered, and it gave him another confidence boost to explain the library meeting the two had. Ectoplasm thinks for a moment, before realizing Higari was the kid he helped out at the library a few days ago. From their things go pretty well, Higari finds it easy to talk to Ecto once he’s found his confidence and Ectoplasm is very patient. Ectoplasm propses the two meet up at lunch time to talk about the project, and Higari can only nod eagerly (he always ate alone at lunch, so the idea of someone wanting him to sit with them made him happy, even if it was jus to discuss a school project)
Higari ends up going home feeling a little better then he did before
-Days pass and Ectoplasm is surprised at just how quickly Higari was able to design a potential support item for him, maybe even a bit impressed at his speed, While Ectoplasm trained Higari watched, studying his attack style so he could work on an item to help him. It was obvious in the first few days of Higari watching his fighting style that Ecto liked using his legs to attack, and thus Higari designed a support item that would not only protect Ecto’s leg from sustaining damage, but also strength his kicks. Higari first showed him his initial sketches at lunch time, where he ended up going on in a bit of a tangent, for all of two minutes, before he suddenly went quite. Ectoplasm wanted to ask why he’d all of a sudden stopped, he hadn’t lost interest or anything, but Higari, saying he had nothing more to say, hurriedly leaves with a nervous glance over his shoulder to Ecto. The same kind of situation happened three more times, Higari would say something smart and then suddenly pipe down for no reason. On the fourth time it happened Ecto finally asked what was wrong. Higari insists it’s nothing, and Ectoplasm - not believing him - asks again. Higari as a kid is not used to opening up to friends since...well, he didn’t have any. But in the end, he tells Ecto. He admits how some other kids at UA tease him for being so nerdy about engineering, and so he just learnt to keep his mouth shut. If he gave them nothing to tease him over, then they couldn’t pick on him. Better to be quite then bullied he figured. Ectoplasm offers him reassurance, saying he doesn’t mind if Higari rambles, and that he was honestly interested in the project and what Higari had to say if he felt like it was important. Higari may have been a little awe struck, he’d never had anyone aside from family listen to him babble, so Ectoplasm, someone who might as well have been a stranger, telling him it was totally okay for him to nerd out and ramble was new
but oh BOY did he ramble, Ectoplasm may not have understood half of what he was saying, but he listened regardless.
-Their friendship begins to grow from their, Higari feels at ease around Ecto, maybe he gets a little clingy with him but that’s all because Ecto to him was his first friend. Ectoplasm begins to view him less as just a project partner as more as a friend, and in seeing Higari light up about mechanics he too feels happy. Alas neither of the two have the courage to ask the other round for dinner or meet up outside of school - Higari was too shy to ask someone like Ecto, a popular kid, to hang out. And Ectoplasm didn’t want Higari to find out about his parents wealth and then view him differently. So many times Ecto’s ‘friends’ has really just been interested in him because of the money his parents made, and he didn’t want to ruin what he now had with Higari. In the end the universe forced them to hang out - Ecto usually hung around at school even after the day was over, he liked walking home in piece, but on this particular day Ecto didn’t have his umbrella and it was raining. Hard. He rushes home, getting thoroughly soaked in the process and is chilled to the bone by the time he reaches the bus stop. Ten minutes pass, he’s still freezing cold, and then Higari walks past. Higari didn’t even recognize Ecto at first, with how soaking wet and miserable he looked. Ecto brushes off Higari’s worrying when the smaller by notices how Ecto is starting to shiver, and says he’ll be fine when the bus arrives. It took a bit of time for Higari to speak, but after finding his voice he timidly asks if Ecto wants to wait out the rain at his place - it’s not that far from here, and he’d at least be warm. Ectoplasm thanks him for the offer but declines, but quickly agrees when a giant bolt of lightning lit up the sky and the rain fell down harder. Higari leads Ectoplasm back to his Uncles home, where Ectoplasm is practically dripping with water.
Ecto tries to tell Higari that he’s fine, but Higari is already dragging him inside and throwing a towel over him. Higari’s uncle was a bit surprised when Higari brought a friend back home (he knew Higari struggled with socializing) but was over the moon none the less, he was terrible at hiding how happy he was and quickly made Ecto a hot drink. Ten minutes later Ecto, now slightly warmer then before, is standing in Hiargi’s room with a towel wrapped round his shoulders as Higari tries to dry of Ecto’s school books on his radiator. Higari’s room is small and doesn’t have a lot of stuff aside from the usual bedroom things: bed, cupboard, desk, beanbag and a window. When Higari moved down into the city he didn’t bring all that much stuff to decorate his new room, just stuff like clothes and other personal belongings. The only real decoration themed stuff he had where tiny model cars sitting on his window sill. Higari notices Ecto staring, and apologizes if the model cars are too nerdy. Ectoplasm shakes his head, saying that his dad had a few model cars around his home. The two get to talking, filling the silence with conversation, it was the first conversation the two had that wasn’t school related. Higari opens up a bit about his family and siblings, telling Ecto a bunch of stories from his home back in the country while Ecto eagerly listens. Ecto was and still is a single child so never had any sibling issues growing up, never had to share anything, or fight over the TV, so he found Higari’s stories interesting. Higari felt bad for just talking about himself so he eventually asked Ecto about his family. Ecto still didn’t want to tell Higari that his parents where pretty well know, so instead said that it was just him, his mum and dad - which wasn’t a lie. After Ecto had dried off and warmed up, he hurried on home, Higari insisting he take his umbrella, he could just return it at school tomorrow.
Ectoplasm leaves with a big smile on his face.
-Higari eventually found out about Ecto’s parents half way through their project. Ecto had started going round HIgari’s after school so the two could discuss the support item’s design and how it could be made. Ecto’s parents noticed the change in their sons behaviour, how he’d always seem more happy after returning how from this mysterious friends house. After Ecto returned home after being soaked with rain he explained to his slightly worried parents where he’d been. His parents decided that it might be time for Ecto to introduce this Higari friend of his, so they plan to invite him round for dinner - despite how Ecto felt nervous about the idea. Higari was very flustered when Ecto asked him round for dinner, at this point Higari was maybe starting to get a little smitten for Ecto, but he fiercely denied it. Higari enthusiastically accepts after his shock, and spends the rest of the day trying to prepare his most smartest outfit. The next day after school he goes round to Ecto’s home, where his parents greet him. Ecto’s parents, more so his dad, was very nosing in the teasing sense with Ecto so was very eager to meet this new friend Ecto seemed so happy about. Ecto hoped Higari wouldn’t comment on how posh everything looked, but he noticed. Higari felt a little out of place in such a fancy looking home, and even commented on how fancy everything looked. The truth comes out at dinner, where Higari comments on all the framed music posters Ecto had around the home, to which his parents then admit that the family has always been big in the music industry. Ecto at this point is half sinking in his chair because NOW his parents have moved on to tell childhood stories from when he was little, that Higari eagerly listened too. At the end of the meal and after Higari goes home Ecto sulks to his room, ignoring his parents who ask whats wrong. Ecto is hesitant to approach Higari, knowing that he’ll just ask a lot of questions all about his parents and their music careers. Higari notices how Ecto is avoiding him, and is worried maybe he did something wrong. One day he manages to catch Ecto just before he leaves the lunch hall, the two are alone in the hallway and Higari shyly asks why he’s been avoiding him - where Ecto then snaps.
He knows his parents are cool, he knows having rich parents is cool, he knows that Higari is going to ask so many questions about them, he knows Higari is going to ask if Ecto could get them an autograph. Everyone always asked about his prefect parents, and he was so tired of it!
After Ecto has vented out his frustrations he sighs and turns to leave, but before he can Higari quickly rushes infront of him. Higari says he doesn’t care if Ecto’s parents are rich, he likes spending time with him because he enjoyed his company, no other reason. Higari hadn’t even heard of the music his parents made until they named some during dinner. Ecto raises a brow, still suspicious but still desperately wanting to believe Higari. Higari begins to panic, not sure what to do, in the end he does the first thing that comes to his mind and asks Ecto to meet him after school tomorrow. Before Ecto can ask why Higari has already rushed off, leaving Ecto very confused.
-One day later after school and Ecto and Higari are standing outside Ecto’s favourite karaoke place. Ecto asks how Higari knew this was his favorite place, and Higari shyly admits he remembered Ecto mentioning it once. Ecto blinks down at hi, he remembered? The two are pretty awkward when they first enter the karaoke room together, unable to make eye contact. Higari insists Ecto pick the first song, not like he knew anything about music anyway. Ecto is a bit shy at first, he’d never sang to anyone other then his parents, but Higari is patient as Ecto looks through the different songs. After finding one of his favorite songs and listening to the first few lyrics Ecto eventually found his voice and started singing. He wasn’t sure when he’d started dancing but when the song finished he was no longer sitting - Higari stares wide eyed, and Ecto feels blush come to his face. When Higari starts clapping his hands Ecto hurries back to his seat, but manages to stutter a flattered thank you. The end up having a blast, Ecto even got Higari to sing a little (they may have danced a bit more too). By the time the two head home it’s dark, but they exchange numbers and head home, Ecto realizing that Higari is in fact, a true friend.
-As for when they got together, it took them ages to finally become a thing. Higari was the first to develop a crush and Ecto despite being smart was a total oblivious idiot to Higari’s affections. The two finish their end of year project with a pass, Higari getting a high grade for the support item he designed and, thanks to Ecto, got a high enough mark on his paper test to pass. When they graduate the two temporarily move into an apartment together, but soon Ecto’s hero career picks up and he eventually moves out - Higari was sad he had to go but didn’t want to hold him back, they talked when they could with both having busy careers, it was only after Ecto suffered the loss of his legs did their relationship begin. Higari was one of the first people aside from his parents that got to see Ecto in the hospital. Higari is prepared for Ecto to vent, to yell..he’s not prepared when Ecto just grabs him into a hug and cries. Higari is there to comfort him and support him through recovery. With Ecto needing assistant he moves back in with Higari in his apartment when he’s discharged from the hospital - Higari is there to witness the sadness, the anger, the self hatred, and he’s there to offer a shoulder to cry on when Ecto needs an outlet. One day Ecto tells Higari he’s thinking about retiring from being a hero, with his leg gone there wasn’t much he could do, and the prosthetics he’d been shown at the hospital weren’t build for combat. It crushes Higari seeing Ecto look so defeated and miserable, so much that he pulls out the old school project designs he made, and redesigns them into combat suitable prostethics. Higari spent many days at his work desk perfecting the design, making sure they where perfect. He’d been with Ecto through his physical therapy and rehab, he knew Ecto’s fighting style better then anyone else, and finally finishes. When he presents the  prosthetics to his doctors and after they’ve been approved as safe they allow Ecto to try them out. They’re a bit hard to get used too, as he’s gotten used to the other prosthetics the hospital gave him. He’s a bit wobbly, and fell over a few times in the beginning. But after trying training again, something he hadn’t done since his injury, they work like a charm. Seeing Ecto happy for the first time in ages makes Higari smile, he’s so busy praising Ecto that once again is caught off guard when Ecto pulls him into a tight hug, thanking him over and over - Higari hugged back, some happy tears may have been shed
-After Ecto has his new prosthetics Ecto buys a bigger house for the two to live in, mostly so that if his prosthetics for some reason broke, Higari would be able to fix them quickest. But it was also becasue Ecto was starting to get a little crush on his old school friend. I’m not really sure how they two would announce they’re dating, it just sorta...happened. They where both shy and a little awkward at first when it came to kissing, but they’ve got the hang of it now!
Some other small notes~~
-Ecto wanting to become a hero was at first a sort of rebellion thing. He got tired of friends always asking about his parents and their career, so when it came to choosing a course he picked the hero course, not wanting to be apart of his parents music career. Jokes on him cuz in the end Ecto ended up liking the idea of helping other people by being a hero, and his parents where supportive
-When Ectoplasm told his parents he and Higari where dating his parents admitted that they thought Higari and Ecto had been dating since their time at UA. And despite Higari’s worries Ecto’s parents like him
-I’ll draw his dad out eventually but Ecto’s dad spoiled the crap out of Ecto. Both Higari and Ecto had fun loving dads while their mothers where more serious. Ecto’s dad was ready and prepared for when Ecto brought a girl or boy home, he’s got a tone of baby photos of Ecto and he’s ready to embarrass him (which he did when Higari came over years later, Higari was very amused)
-With Ecto and Higari both being teachers at UA and not wanting to draw villains attention, they had a small private wedding with some close work/school friends and their parents. The real celebration began when Ecto, Higari and their friends from UA all went out to karaoke to celebrate. Everyone got drunk

Three Hearts
Tumblr media
Jared x Jensen x OFC Elle 2700 words of Valentine’s Day fluff in the Everything-verse that belongs to @there-must-be-a-lock. Thanks for letting me play in your world again, friend!  Enough  Road Trip
Valentine’s Day.
Elle was torn. On one hand, it was a totally commercialized excuse for companies to sell chocolate, overpriced cards, and giant bears. At the same time, she liked flowers and sweet treats as much as the next person.
The nice thing about her boyfriends was that neither of them needed a day on the calendar to be romantic. The three of them celebrated together on special occasions -- birthdays, anniversaries -- but had just as much fun in the everydays, when there was nothing to celebrate but each other.
Since moving in with them a little over a year ago, she had enjoyed their thoughtfulness and generosity for every special occasion. The two of them gave good gifts, and frankly, she felt almost spoiled. But her favorite presents were the ones they all enjoyed together -- vacations, spa days, gourmet meals. She hardly wanted anything for Valentine’s Day because they had left her nothing to want.
Buying gifts for them -- now, that was the hard part. She didn’t have their deep pockets. While she didn’t mind letting them pay for their lifestyle, she felt like they shouldn’t buy their own gifts. On top of that, this year, so many of the things they all enjoyed -- trips, concerts, fine dining -- were out of the question.
Elle brought it up one weekend in late January, when they were enjoying a lazy Sunday brunch after a very enjoyable morning all together in Jensen’s bed. Each of them had their own private space, but more often than not, they ended up in one bedroom, especially on weekends. Jared had made each of them omelets to their liking while Jensen made espressos and Elle chopped fruit.
Between bites of the delicious food, she asked casually, “So have you two given any thought to Valentine’s Day this year?” Both of her boyfriends looked at her wide-eyed, so she hurried on. “Not that I’m expecting you to get me anything! I mean, you’re always very generous. I just -- wondered.”
Jared looked at Jensen as if he was asking for permission, and when Jensen nodded, he pulled out his phone.
“So you know how we love watches?”
“I’ve heard about it once or twice.” Elle nodded, her tone teasing. The two of them collected watches like some people collected cars.
“There’s this new Rolex - Jay and I have been on the waitlist for a year. We should be getting them just in time to be our gift to each other. Look, isn’t this a beauty?” He turned the phone to show her while he continued to list for her the features of this particular timepiece.
It looked to Elle very much like any other watch. What caught her eye was the price at the bottom: $30,000 and up. And they were buying a pair of them. The boys continued to chatter excitedly, voices overlapping, as she sat in stunned silence.
$60,000. That was more than she made in a year. What could she possibly give that would compare to a gift like that?
“You okay, sweetheart?” Jensen’s voice cut through the buzz in her brain.
“Oh, yeah.” She forced a laugh. “You know, you lose me with all this watch nerd talk.”
“Don’t worry, that’s why I keep him around.” Jensen pointed a thumb at Jared, who leaned over and playfully nuzzled into his neck. Jensen turned, and the two of them kissed, and Elle wondered for the millionth time how she ever got so lucky.
Jared stood up first, and kissed her, carrying her plate with his to the sink. Jensen followed, and brought her a kiss along with a top off for her coffee. When they left the room, she stayed at the table, savoring her coffee with a smile on her face.
Hot, romantic, and thoughtful. How did she get so lucky to end up with both of these wonderful men?
Then the thought crowded back into her brain: what could she get them for Valentine’s Day?
*** Elle loved shopping online, normally. She enjoyed hunting around for the best deals on things. Usually, Jared was her Amazon shopping partner. But not for this. She browsed what felt like every list on the internet looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day gift. Most things were either too cheap or too expensive -- or they already had them.
There was the additional problem that a lot of cute, romantic gifts were clearly aimed at a two-person couple -- not a lot out there for two boyfriends. She did find some cute cards on Etsy, but she was still at a loss for gifts.
Finally she gave up and flicked over to Instagram. She was scrolling through her usual content -- friends, artists, food blogs -- when an ad caught her eye: Dead Sled Leather Co. The photo showed a watch with a beautiful leather band, paired with an embossed wallet. She clicked.
Custom belts, wallets, key chains - all of the goods were beautifully crafted. She got more and more excited as she scrolled until finally she found it: the Gentleman’s Valet Tray. “Need a place to put your watch? This handsome leather valet tray…” That was all she needed to read. She could even get a custom design on the bottom! And it was in her price range.
Her heart sank when she clicked to the order form. “Orders shipping about four weeks out.” That was too late. Well, what did she have to lose? She called the number on the site.
The man who picked up the phone spoke in a slow Kentucky drawl, and she could just about picture chewing tobacco in his mouth. All of her words came out in a rush: how this was the perfect gift for her boyfriends, how she just needed a pair of them in time for Valentine’s Day, and could he help her?
Boyfriends. She definitely hadn’t meant to let that slip. She waited, breathlessly.
The line was silent for a moment and then he spoke. There would be a rush work fee, and she would have to pay for express shipping, but he could do it. Now what design did she want for her lucky fellas?
Elle decided to keep it simple -- three hearts entwined, stamped in the leather. She picked a deep red brown for Jared, and a honey tan for Jensen. The man didn’t question any of it, just promised to have them ready and shipped to her in time.
Her heart was light when she hung up. It wasn’t an expensive gift, but it was special. Thoughtful, perfect for them. And her Texas boys would appreciate the leather craftsmanship. Excited, she clicked onto one of her favorite clothing websites to pick out some lingerie.
*** It was the day before Valentine’s Day, and the gifts still hadn’t arrived. They had been completed -- the maker had sent photos -- and mailed as ordered, but there was some kind of delay with the post office.
All the other things she had ordered were already there -- some quality bourbon, cards, and of course, her lingerie. She had put so much hope into having the perfect gift, and as the afternoon wore on, she grew increasingly anxious.
The boys had gone out together to pick up orders at the grocery as well as the wine store. When they returned, they found Elle pacing the kitchen, nervously picking at a dish towel.
“Whoa,” Jared spoke first. “What’s wrong?”
She shook her head.
“C’mere.” Jensen pulled out a chair at the breakfast table for her. The boys sat down on either side of her. “Something’s going on. Why don’t you let us know what it is?”
“It’s stupid,” she protested, but they knew her too well to believe that. She looked from one to the other -- from Jensen’s candy apple green eyes to Jared’s kaleidoscope hazel gaze. Both of them were radiating so much trust, so much love. Finally she took a deep breath and let it all out.
“I’ve been so worried about what to get you two for Valentine’s Day. You have everything you could ever need, and you’re getting each other these beautiful watches, and I couldn’t afford one if I wanted to, and I just feel kinda useless and --”
Jensen held up one broad hand. “Sweetheart, we get the watches because we like them. And, okay, they’re kind of an investment piece. But we don’t expect you to get us anything like that?”
Jared chimed in. “The best things you’ve given us haven’t cost much at all. Like when you got me the sweets of the world subscription box? Or the coffee of the month for Jay? You give gifts that have a lot of thought, a lot of heart. The price tag isn’t what matters.”
“More than that,” Jensen picked up the thought seamlessly. “It isn’t even the gifts that matter. We’re both so fuckin’ lucky, every day, to just have you.” He looked at Jared, and they both nodded. “We love the things you give us, because we love you.”
“Even if you never gave us a damn thing, you’re the best gift we could ever have.” Jared’s face was so earnest, his brow furrowed and his eyes wide, Elle couldn’t help but smile.
“I feel so lucky to have you, both of you.” She looked back and forth between the two of them.
Jensen reached across the table to brush her cheek with outstretched fingers, and she leaned into his touch. Jared, always the more physically demonstrative one, sprang up and swooped her into a hug. He squeezed her tight, rocking her back and forth until they were both laughing. Jensen stood up and walked over with a fond smile on his face. Jared drew him in with one long arm so they were all together in one loving embrace.
Elle lifted her face to first one, then the other, for a kiss. This was where she belonged, with these two men who made her feel wanted and cherished and loved. Gifts and holidays faded from her mind in their arms. With them she felt safe, secure, forgetting about everything but being with them.
*** “Shh, don’t wake her up.”
Jared’s decidedly un-quiet whisper woke Elle the next morning.
“What are we supposed to do with breakfast in bed if we don’t wake her up?” She heard Jensen respond.
She sat up and opened her eyes just in time to see both men squeeze through her bedroom door. She should have been used to it by now, the way they insisted on sharing the same space, the way they moved in sync. It still made her smile.
Jensen was carrying coffee and a maple bacon donut. Jared was balancing a tray with eggs and bacon, mmm, so much bacon. She ran a hand through her hair delightedly, ruffling the short pink strands.
“Breakfast in bed? How does a girl get so lucky. Thank you!” She looked from one to the other eagerly. “I only see food for one. Aren’t you joining me?”
It took no convincing for them to go grab their own food and coffee.
The three of them were still on the bed, laughing and talking and trading breakfast-flavored kisses when the doorbell rang. At the same time, Elle’s phone chimed with a notification. She shoved her cup at Jensen and leaped out of bed, pausing only to grab a robe, before she hurried to the front door.
It was the mailman, delivering her gifts for the boys. She was so happy that she did a little dance in her pajamas, right there in the entryway. That’s where the boys found her, hugging a priority mail box.
She was so excited, it was all they could do to convince her to wait until after dinner, but they promised her it would be worth it.
“But it’s so long until dinner! What will I do between now and then?” she teased.
“Oh, I have some ideas to fill the time.” Jared looked at her, the wolfish look in his eyes at odds with his dimples, and she giggled.
Jensen snapped his fingers before starting up the stairs. “Bring her, man.”
Next thing Elle knew, she was scooped up in strong arms and being carried upstairs towards the bedrooms.
***
Jared and Jensen did know how to make time pass in a very enjoyable way, Elle thought, hours later, as she dressed on shaky legs. They had all showered together, but the boys were ready more quickly.
Jensen had picked out a slinky knit dress for her -- comfortable and sexy -- as well as a pair of heels. She took her cue from the outfit, adding jewelry and taking time for some sparkly eye makeup.
She made her way downstairs, carrying her wrapped gifts, and saw light in the formal dining room. She walked in slowly to find the room awash in candlelight.
The table was set with their finest dishes and laden with food. A vase of deep red roses sat in the center. Behind it, boxes and bags of her favorite chocolates -- hazelnut and caramel -- were stacked in a glittery pile.
The boys both stood up, one on either side of the table. She took both their hands and let them lead her to her seat between them.
The food was amazing, course after course delivered from their favorite restaurant: french onion soup and salads, crab cakes and shrimp cocktail, followed by perfectly cooked steaks with loaded potatoes and veggies sides. Neither of them let her lift a finger to so much as pour a drink.
They lingered over dinner, talking and laughing, sharing food and kisses. When they were finally done, the boys cleared away the plates. When they returned, Jared was carrying champagne and three flutes, while Jensen had a cheesecake topped with strawberries and chocolate.
Elle’s eyes widened. “That looks amazing, but I’m too full to eat another bite. Can we exchange gifts first?”
Jared and Jensen went first, handing one another identical boxes. They all knew what was inside, but that didn’t stop them from opening the watches with delight. Jensen got his on first, and then rounded the table to kiss Jared just as soon as he finished with the clasp.
Elle looked on, beaming. It was something they shared, and they deserved it. Now that they had talked it out, she didn’t feel inferior for not buying luxury gifts. Plus, she knew her presents would be a perfect compliment. She grinned as she handed them the parcels she had carefully wrapped. They tore into the paper eagerly.
Jensen looked up first, a question in his eyes.
“It’s a valet tray. It sits on your dresser so you have a place to put your watch.”
He threw back his head and laughed, that full laugh she loved so much. “Of course! It’s perfect, love, thank you.”
Jared was still tracing the three hearts on the bottom when he looked up and grinned. “Yes, thank you.” Then he turned his gaze towards Jensen. “Three hearts, Jay, did you see?”
Jensen nodded before he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small silky drawstring bag. He shook it into his palm and then held it out.
Elle drew in a sharp breath as she reached for it. She saw that it was a puzzle ring.
“Three bands in one, just like us,” Jensen said softly.
“And you can fidget with it. We know how you love your fidget rings,” Jared added. “But look.” He took the ring back and turned it so she could see inside the band. Stamped inside -- three interlinked hearts.
Elle looked from one to the other. Jensen’s hand closed over Jared’s as they slipped the ring onto her index finger. It fit like it belonged there. She looked from one handsome face to the other, and her eyes welled up as she whispered, “How did I get so lucky?”
They kissed her one at a time, and then together, until she was breathless and laughing.
“How did we ever get so lucky?” Jensen echoed.
“You’re the best gift we’ve ever had, and all we could ever want,” Jared said.
“All? Even with that cheesecake sitting there?” she teased.
“Well, now that you mention it--”
Long after they had eaten their fill of cheesecake, they were still trading sticky sweet kisses, laughing and lingering around the table, three hearts in love.

I Have Listened to Every Lie: Chapter 7 [M]
Tumblr media
I’m back. This is unedited.
Nara stands at the base of the staircase, trying to ignore the first flutters of anxiety that lick at the base of her spine.
She snatches a glance in the mirror and is pleased with what she sees. Her makeup artist is evidently pleased too, his satisfied tuts ringing in the spacious area. Crouching down at her feet is her stylist, weaving soft satin ribbons from her shoe to her knee. The deep red of the shoe matches her lips, and she knows she is enchanting.
A rustle behind her. Every molecule of her body trembles.
Nara sighs. Even her body can’t deny that she’s still impossibly in love with him.
She turns to her husband, who stands poised at the top of the stairs, in the middle of fiddling with a cufflink. The unoccupied hand holds his phone, which in turn occupies his attention.
Nara sighs again, differently this time. She turns back towards the door just in time to see the help dart their eyes away. Whether or not they’re pitying her, she doesn’t know.
She pities herself though.
The helpers step back as Yoongi reaches the bottom step. With his phone call ended, he reaches her in silence even though Nara can feel his heat radiating behind her. She always knows where he is in proximity to her. It’s always been like that.
Drawn to him, she turns. He offers a small, but genuine smile.
“You look wonderful”, he breathes, and her breath is taken away.
Yoongi presses a fleeting kiss to the corner of her temple. Nara slides her eyes nervously to the helpers. They’ve averted their eyes politely, and she is relieved. She has never been one for public displays of affection, but now that she is seeing herself in a newfound light, his actions feel particularly phoney.
When she looks back to her husband, his gaze is inscrutable. It makes her nervous, and she can’t afford to be more anxious tonight. After all, tonight her mother-in-law will be watching. Perhaps Yoongi is only being pleasant in order to make sure she’s perfect tonight.
Nara is overcome with a sudden overwhelming urge to flee. She’s wearing red shoes – might as well dance herself to death tonight.
“Shall we go?” She titters breezily, stepping easily back into her designated role.
At her husband’s nod a clutch is slid into her hand, and she floats to the door.
The Min family Rolls Royce is waiting for them. Only one out of the entire fleet, Nara supposes. She isn’t surprised; she knows very well the wealth the Min family wields, and how they exercise it.
She remembers the last meeting with Yoongi’s mother, and it makes her shiver.
Her husband’s warm hand on her back is a balm as he guides her to the car, chauffeur waiting and ready. He slides in to the other side and so they sit together, separated by a thick cloud of silence.
Minutes fly by, and the soft purr of the engines soothes Nara’s nervous mind.
It gives her time to reflect.
The last month has been strange, if nothing else.
The night Nara moved back into the mansion felt like a bookend in her life of some sort; now that she’d had her taste of true freedom, the sensation of what it was like to breathe easy, it somehow made her life around Yoongi better and worse.
It was easier in that she is more able to step outside of herself, operate almost independently of her feelings and act logically. Perhaps for the first time in her life.
This inward shift of hers is neither alarming nor a relief. It just is. She can’t say that she is happy with the way things are – living with and loving a man who sees her when he needs to –, but it just is.
But her step outside into the real world has lit something deep within her. She craves the life of ordinary others around her in the way she craves Yoongi’s gaze on her. It isn’t that they are competing desires in her life. It merely means that her life has a larger capacity now.
Yet there are still some moments where the equilibrium between the two seems to tip. On the nights when their bodies are intertwined and they scream each other’s names to the heavens, Nara swears that her desire for freedom trumps her desire for Yoongi. At least then she is free to convince herself that the man between her thighs is there because he wants to be. It’s painful to be present with him, when she is absent in his heart.
Nara stares out the window of her seat and notices that even in her reflection, her eyes look dull. Apathy it seems, is her only friend these days.
-
When the car rolls to a stop, Nara is ready.
The windows may be tinted, but she knows what awaits. It’s all familiar to her, this schtick.
Yoongi steps out first, and is immediately bombarded by cameras. Nara waits for him to cross to her side, and when he offers her his hand, she takes it with a slightly desperate grip.
People are saying their names left and right. The paparazzi are thrilled, the staff momentarily distracted, and guests both strange and familiar turn to them. Gazes are appraising, full of envy and quiet submission.
Moments like these give her confidence. They reassure her that she is young, beautiful, and relevant.
Up the stairs they go. One graceful step at a time. Marching into warfare.
Yoongi’s mother is waiting for them just inside the door. She looks intense, and beautiful.
“So happy that you’re both here,” she smiles, giving her son a squeeze of the hand and Nara an acknowledging glance. “I know it’s a lot, but do try to have fun. Remember to mingle. You have to present a united front.”
It’s blunt alright, but Nara understands what she’s saying. Of course, she knows that half of the glances being sent their way are from young women, eager to identify chinks in their marital armour.
Yoongi diligently nods and squeezes Nara’s hand. “Yes mother, please don’t worry about us.”
“It’s not you that I worry about.” His mother replies, skewering Nara with a hard glance. Beside her, Yoongi stiffens. Then his mother walks away without so much as a goodbye.
For a moment Nara is floored by the woman’s wilful blindness. When it comes to her son, she believes that Min Yoongi can do no wrong. Despite her son opening his protegee’s legs on his desk, all Nara did was open her life to let in education and now in her mother-in-law’s eyes she has somehow transformed into a leech.
The entire encounter darkens Nara’s mood terribly. As Yoongi leads her to the bar with a cautious hand the elegance and grandeur of the scene rots, and the vulgarity of it all makes her want to gag.
When her sights set upon a smooth Kim Seokjin settling down at the bar, Nara’s mood tanks just that bit further.
“Yoongi, Nara.” The handsome lawyer passes them each a drink with an irritatingly friendly demeanour.
“Hyung,” Yoongi greets, and then subtly squeezes Nara’s waist when she’s just a little too slow in her reply.
“Jin.”
Undeterred by her dourness, Jin deftly carries the conversation. “It’s so nice to see you two here tonight – it’s been a while since we’ve all attended a party together, right? Tonight’s the perfect event for you two to appear together. It’s… ” he hesitates to find the right word, “expensive.”
Nara barks an acerbic laugh. What a sneak Kim Seokjin is - never telling the truth.
“Is that why your girlfriend isn’t here?”
Despite the bite in her tone Jin does not back down, in fact his eyes twinkle all the more. He deftly dodges her arrow and politely clears his throat. Nara is disappointed that he isn’t putting up a fight, although the glare she is receiving from her husband is warning enough.
“Fiancée, actually.”
“Congratulations.” Yoongi’s felicitations are soft spoken, but full of real warmth.
Nara feels a little guilty. “My mistake. Congratulations Jin, you must be so happy.”
The man with love in his eyes smiles and says, “Thank you. She’s actually out tonight dealing with all the details of the wedding. We narrowed the options for everything down a little, but she says it’s gotten to a point where my opinions are useless to her.” The huge grin on his face doesn’t dim at all.
Yoongi coughs out a laugh. “Right? After a while it’s all just miscellaneous stuff.”
“Actually I find it quite enjoyable, apart from the apparent difference between white, cream white, and eggshell white, but as long as I get to marry her at the end of it all I’ll do what I’m told and step away when asked.” Jin’s eyes flash towards Nara, looking slightly apologetic.
Ever slow on the uptake, Nara realises that he’s trying to make up for the casual indifference of her own husband’s attitude towards weddings, and a deep wedge of hurt blooms in her chest. The truth is that Yoongi wasn’t involved in their wedding, but she didn’t care at the time.
A rush of anger swiftly burns through the hurt, and Nara takes a deep sip from her champagne glass. Once it is empty, she stares balefully at the bottom of the crystal, noting the sticky maroon of her lipstick and tracing her lip print with burning eyes.
She takes a deep, restorative breath, and lifts her head.
“Excuse me, I’m just going to the bathroom to freshen up.”
Yoongi’s hand leaves her back easily, and he nods as he turns to the bar.
The walk to the bathroom allows the feelings inside Nara to fester, solidify, and turn ugly. She cannot express how much it irks her that Yoongi can turn away from her so easily. Without thought, without care. As though she were just another one of the innumerable people to flit in and out of his life.
The bathroom is spacious and contains just a smattering of old ladies here and there. Nara rips a paper towel from the wall and dabs furiously at her T-zone.
She stares at her reflection in the mirror. She knows she is beautiful. She knows the slant of her nose is desirable, the shape of her eyes attractive, the curve of her lip sensual and the arch of her brow seductive. She has never had to compete with anyone in terms of physical beauty because there has simply never been any competition. It was with pride that she thought Yoongi chose her because she represented what it was to be young, rich, and gorgeous.
Her phone buzzes, and she ignores it.
If anything, now more than ever Nara thinks she is more interesting to look at. Her eyes help depth and fire, and her cheeks were aflush with emotion. Even a tremble to her lip as she tried to contain her stomach that was roiling with vexation. How vapid must she have seemed before! How utterly empty, two dimensional, and ugly.
It was therefore impossible to her that Yoongi would find her less attractive than before.
Even if he thought her a stranger, their bodies were well acquainted, and Nara would prove to him that no other would ever do for him. She would show him that looking away from her too easily was foolish.
Rattling around in her clutch were two lipstick tubes. Nara takes out a favourite of hers, an alarming red Dior shade and unwinds the flaming red from its tube. She wipes off her existing deep colour and applies a thick, impermeable layer of the brilliant rouge.
Nara meets her own eye in the mirror and smirks.
A buzz from her phone snatches her attention away.
From: Yoongi
[7:21pm - are you done?]
[7:29pm - I’m waiting for you in the conference room ]
[7:29pm - few doors down from the toilets]
She messages him as she stalks hallway back to the foyer.
Pivoting on her heel, Nara walks with determination and more than a little arousal towards the conference room.
Upon arriving at the heavy, impersonal black doors, she throws them apart and catches her husband lounging on a dark green chaise on the other side of the long room.
Although the lights of the room are off, Seoul at night does well enough at giving the room a cool, shimmering silver shine. Yoongi’s phone is unlocked, and its bright light flares on his face like a torch, making him look slightly sickly.
“You took your time,” Yoongi notes as he puts his phone down, “almost started on your drink.” He nods towards a new, taller glass of champagne.
Nara stalks towards her husband and once reaching him, slides her dress up and straddles him. Yoongi’s eyes widen in shock, and he makes to get up, but Nara instead grabs at his hands and puts them on her hips.
Slowly, coyly, she lifts the front of her dress so that he can see her nakedness.
“Too tight for underwear tonight,” she whispers, and leans forwards to trace the shape of his mouth with the tip of her tongue.
Nara can feel him rising in his suit pants, and can hear the way his breathing hitches. It makes her blood sing, his arousal. She wants to ruin him for other people, just as he did her.
Yoongi opens his mouth to take hers, but Nara stills him with a firm hand on his chest, and then trails the other down her chest. With burning but purposeful fingers she traces the curve of her breast, closer and closer to her nipple until delicious contact is made and her nipple is erect and pressing stiffly against the suddenly rough fabric of her dress.
She then leaves her breast and glides down past her navel, and it disappears in between her thighs, underneath her dress.
Yoongi’s chest heaves as he watches her. With steady fingers he lifts the edges of her dress and rolls it higher. Steadily, leisurely. There’s an art to the show, and they’re both alert and present for it.
Nara rubs her palm back and forth between the apex of her thighs, not knowing what the image is but understanding its effect on her viewer. Yoongi’s mouth is parted, and he may not be aware of it but he is panting slightly. The sound makes her smirk.
When he swallows heavily for the second time she decides that maybe it’s time, and with little to no resistance she pushes her two longest fingers inside her body. A satisfied hum erupts from her chest, and Nara closes her eyes. A few languid strokes of her fingers pass before she takes them out, and making sure that Yoongi’s eyes are on her glistening fingers, licks herself clean.
Her husband is paying rapt attention, and so his member. His hands grip tightly onto the sides of her dress, and if it weren’t for the pulsating of his dick Nara would have thought she petrified him.
Pulling herself a little higher so that she is situated over his clothed cock, Nara lowers herself and begins to grind. A vein begins to pop at Yoongi’s neck. Nara looks at it lovingly. It’s her favourite to lick, bite, graze with her teeth.
As she rocks back and forth on his cock, she lifts her left hand to his neck. Yoongi’s eyes swim with arousal as he tries to catch onto her drift. Nara turns her hand in slightly so that her palm is facing her, and with the lightest pressure she can, she strokes that vein of his with the huge diamond on her ring finger.
Nara locks eyes with Yoongi, and tries to make him understand.
“You are married to this,” she whispers, pressing the ring into his neck, “you committed to this.”
Yoongi’s eyes turn wary for an instant until he realises that she isn’t picking a fight, at least not for the moment.
Nara’s hand leaves his neck. Then, at a pace so glacial it makes Yoongi’s eyes roll she lifts her hips, unzips his fly at a speed that allows them both to hear each click click click of every zipper ridge.
Yoongi’s cock is more than ready for her to take. It’s desperately hot in her hand, and wet at the tip with his own arousal.
There’s no more waiting tonight.
Nara lines herself up, encouraged by Yoongi’s firm grasp on her waist.
But before she can lower herself onto his pulsating member below her, she needs his gaze.
“Yoongi.” She whispers, and his eyes snap to hers. Wide and filled want.
“I chose lilies for our wedding,” she whispers, and then slams down on his cock, sheathing him in one fluid motion.
Yoongi groans like it’s the first time he’s ever been inside of her but he tries his hardest not to break eye contact. Nara’s thighs clench with excitement.
She draws back up onto her knees and whispers, “I had gardenia’s in my bouquet,” and drops back down.
Up once more, faster this time.
“My dress was made of tulle.” she gasps, squeezing his tip still inside of her. Yoongi’s jaw clenches, and sweat beads at both of their brows.
“It was lined with silk.” Another grunt from Yoongi as she collides into him.
“Our invitations were eggshell white,” Nara whimpers, gaining speed.
“Our cake was chamomile and cherry blossom,” Yoongi’s hands grip her waist and begin to take over her movements.
“I wore a custom pearl slip on our wedding night,” Nara garbles, finally closing her eyes.
“And I let you rip it off me,” Yoongi can’t take his eyes off her.
“My lingerie was specially made,” Nara’s eyes fly open once more, and she leans closer to Yoongi. One hand cups her breast and the other at the back of the chaise for balance. She brings her chest closer to Yoongi who obliges her, and licks feverishly at the stiff nipple shielded by fabric.
“I had diamonds sewed into it,” Nara pants, her rolling in bliss as Yoongi drills up into her.
“So that the light would catch as you fucked me,” her thighs are shaking and the back of her knees are slick with sweat.
“You made me wear that set for days on end,” she cries. It’s beginning to get difficult to finish a sentence.
Nara pulls her nipple from Yoongi’s teeth and scrabbles back down his chest.
His thrusting slows as he follows her lead. They’ve both never been so turned on.
She stares deeply into her husband’s eyes, riding him in her own time, so that he burns this image of her into his mind.
“We had -- sex,” she pants, “in the bed --, on the kitch--en,” her voice hitches when Yoongi punctuates her words with a particularly hard thrust.
“On the balcony, in -- the pool,” Nara remembers fondly, and slips her hand down to find her cit.
Yoongi senses her end, and resumes his brutal pace.
“In the garden,” Nara gasps, toying with herself as she revels in the sound of their clapping skin.
“I wore that -- set,” she glares into her husband’s eyes, and matches him thrust for thrust with her words, “even -- after -- you -- used it -- to -- wipe -- your -- cum -- from -- my -- pussy,”
Yoongi’s mouth drops open, and his neck vein bulges.
Nara’s so close. She has him right where she wants him, and she wants this so much.
She leans into his ear and chews on his earlobe lightly.
“You gonna fuck me till -- ah! -- till I cry baby? Huh?” Yoongi’s voice breaks on the next thrust.
She flicks at her clit harder, faster, until it’s almost painful. She’s so close.
“That set is the only -- bit of our honeym-moon I brought -- back,” Oh god she thinks, I’m so fucking close! But she needs to finish the performance.
Yoongi is unravelling underneath her, his thrusts quick yet heavy. “Oh baby!” he yells.
“Maybe I’ll put it back on -- an-and you can fuck me until -- hng -- you remember -- why you marr -- whyyoumarriedme!”
Nara’s back bows as her orgasm propels her into violent ecstasy, pulling Yoongi with her. He bucks and howls underneath her, their bodies stiff and twitching from the stimulation and eroticism of the event. White fluid gathers at the base of Yoongi’s cock and Nara tries with all her might to watch the aftershocks run through her husband’s body.
Yoongi’s eyelids flutter heavily, and when he returns to the room his eyes are filled with something suspiciously like awe.
In that moment, she knows she is unforgettable.
