“What good is kindness like that?” Uh, I don’t know… The kind of goodness that leads to a redemption arc for Hook, maybe?

Mr. Smee is a pure cinnamon roll of a character who deserves so much more appreciation. Hook may be my favorite Peter Pan character, but Mr. Smee is a very close second. I mean, really, how do you not like Smee?

Smee: He's just a little guy, who cries a lot and I think he's terrified but he's trying so hard to be brave and I don't think he believes I'm proud of him.

Wendy: Wow...you really have no Ill will towards him.

Smee: How can I when he's just a little guy? Fished him out of the ocean just the other day he can't take care of himself, he's a little mean but it's just what he thinks will make him more mature because he doesn't know what being a grown up is.

Wendy: you're smaller than him.

Smee: Physically yeah but metaphorically no.

I don't know if you already saw it, but the disneygames_jp twitter account published that there will be stickers for Line of some villains. There are three things to highlight, the first is that they are almost the same villains that appear in twst, including John and Gideon. The second thing is that Hook and Smith appear, maybe it's a subtle clue for future characters. And the third thing is that Jafar has almost the same pose that Jamil does in another set of stickers, I think it's cute.

The art style is really cute! I recognize it as Takashi Mifune’s work, which I’m a big fan of. It’s so clean and simple to understand, even for very complex character designs.

However, there is also sort of a limit to this style in terms of range of expression and body movements, so of course we get some similar looking poses and faces like what is observed between Jamil and Jafar:

While I appreciate more adorable LINE stickers, I don’t know of I’d immediately associate these with TWST?? Yes, most of the characters are the same as in TWST, but they’re not presented in a meaningful way which would imply they mean to invoke TWST imagery. For example, maybe if the villains were in the same order as the dorm leaders were presented or if they were arranged in a group shot like how the dorm leaders are here:

It’d be an odd marketing tactic on Disney’s end?? Not many people look at stickers and determine a major release for new content will be predicted by them. The TWST marketing for Halloween events is also pretty targeted and deliberate due to the scale of them; it seems strange for them to make stickers nonchalantly if they really are meant to foreshadow the Halloween after next.

So!! I think it’s more coincidence than anything 😅 Disney has a wide pool of villains to pick from, but their merch tends to rep only the most “iconic” or easily identifiable ones (with one or two occasional oddballs thrown in)… and I believe that’s the case here.

Of course, it’s still entirely possible that next year’s Halloween event (or ones beyond that) will feature a twisted Hook and/or Smee; I just don’t know that this is the avenue or the timing that would imply it.

The reformed side kick club! Sidekick from Disney movies that have been reformed in one incarnation or another. (Lefou in the remake, Iago in the second movie, Wiggins in the books, Kronk at the end of the first movie, Smee in that old cartoon, and Anastasia in all the sequels)

I know in your Canon Descendants project most of them are already out of their kids’ lives while they’re still pretty young, but just as a fun little thought experiment: what villains do you think would be the best parents?

Oh-Anastasia hands down. She’s one of the only villainy villains to have an actual redemption and learn to be kind and she definitely resolves to be the exact opposite of Lady Tremaine, plus look at The Baker- that man is hands down Good Dad material

Besides her? Well, none of them are stellar parents, but the ones who are probably the least damaging? Mad Maddy’s parents are probably just kookily horrid but in a fun like Addams family type way and she’s the same for the most part so they have fun.

The Queen of Hearts is probably an actually quite attentive and loving mother if she treats her kids the same as the king, always using her anger in their defense and never at them.

Mr Smee would treat his kids right for sure. Hmm yeah I think that’s about it for best parents xD

I love the old vintage Disney books but these images are just hilariously wrong.

Peter is over there fighting with one hand while not spilling a single drop from the glass of iced…whatever…in his other hand. Hook, meanwhile, is totally milking the fact that he’s not feeling great and telling his crew to bring him cake of all things…and a giant ice cube they got from…somewhere??

The coloring is all wrong, too. Hook’s personal color is red, but in the film, the blanket he uses is green…which has some color symbolism significance. Here, it’s hard to even tell where his clothes start and the blanket stops. Also, look at Smee’s red hair! He de-aged!! And speaking of coloring being weird, Smee, honey, those shorts do NOT match with that top and hat!
