To be honest I always felt like one of the biggest tragedies that happened to Mickey Mouse is how he tends to be treated less of a character and more of a mascot for Disney.
And to be honest, Disney really is to blame here. I can't really blame people for seeing Mickey as a shallow boring mascot when their only exposure to him is him smiling on a t-shirt or coffee mug or maybe seeing an extremely sanitized version on a pre-school cartoon.
As someone who loves cartoon characters, I like to see them get to be themselves. And while a lot of other cartoons fade into obscurity, Mickey has a unique fate where he is still here but him as a character tends to fade instead. We were lucky to get the Rudish cartoons which helped breath life into him and really show that he can be a fun character even if it is a more exaggerated version of him. But it seems like that era is starting to end and I am not sure what will come afterwards.
And with earlier versions of him going into Public Domain soon, I know that we are going to see quite a few takes of him. I know many of those takes are coming from people who see Mickey as a stand in for all of the bad things Disney do and will probably portray him as an evil capitalist or some kind of monster. Which is whatever, I'm not going to be upset about people making their own art on their own feelings (though personally I think the joke got old after everyone tried to copy South Park and Simpsons for the millionth time in a row).
But I also feel like this is a chance to reclaim Mickey as return him as a character. Let him get to be a character with flaws and goals and not just a smiling face on merchandise. It would be nice to get some official Disney projects too. But if Disney won't, we can do it ourselves.

Speaking as a proud monster lubber who also prefers his beast look because no duh...I'm really tired of the passive but somehow unironic fans of Beauty and the Beast dragging the Beast's human look.
Firstly, he's not really all that ugly. He just needs more facial hair and chonk, especially to differenciate him from Tarzan. I know the "can you maybe grow a beard" line was added for the crapremake, but he legit would be fixed with just a few changes. It's like giving Elktaur a nose. It's really not that big a cosmetic different when you get down to it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
first pass edits (top:made eyes less sad and more happyBeast mode; bottom:begins changes)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Added: top chonk, thick eyebrows, beard like how god intended. sideburns, dilf energy. +Keeps deep(er, than regular) voice. Face the facts. +darker dirty blonde, though not nearly as dark as Belle's hair, so he stands out.
Upsides: is more obviously the Beast so people can shut up now about this guy "replacing" Belle's beast ++enough boys lets bring in the men. Coulda been our original Kristoff.
Downside: would def be babymipped into Christian art as a prettyboy Jesus.
The problem with the Human!Beast's design, as those before me have already said, is that he looks ruggardly handsome but standard and it feels like a different character because of that when it was the Beast that Belle and the audience fell in love with.
It's a bad design in lieu of what came before for him. That's it. Enough with your unironic "he should have stayed a beast"-bs. Same goes with that "Rapunzel looks better with long hair" or "Ariel looked better as a mermaid" garbage. Yeah, yeah and Jack Skellington's Christmas was better because it was "more fun". Even in animation where crap that you're expected to be endeared to somewhat despite it being weird in universe to the other characters, you are fundamentally missing the point of the story to ignore that.
Disney Beast is a spoiled crybaby manchild who made the mistake of crossing a fae on her bad day as a teenager, and now had to forever walk around with the ugliness he was and was in threat of becoming forever. He did not want this body. He is trapped in it and has decided to just never get better and be his worst self because of it- he even screams at Belle for almost touching his stuff and goes to save her because it's his fault she just ran out into a wolf-infested blizzard. Gotta love how ya'll only are annoyed with the beast's actions when he's a hawt beautiful glen keane monster and not his true self; a pretty boi spoiled manchild. Aww. You learned nothing.
Speaking of Centaurworld again, this is not a situation where the main character needs to learn to accept his new body as Horse does in that show. This is not the end of How to Train your Dragon where sometimes life sucks and you loose a leg and it's kind of devastating yeah dysphoria amIright-- the Beast did not need to learn to accept his body he needed to learn to accept himself. To be a better person.
Just to be my own kind of pettynontake-All the servant's human designs kick ass and look incredible. They're the true victims of this circumstance. Prince Adam not being your monster bf anymore is a sacrifice worth making for their sake.

Wish spoilers ahead.
The start of Wish is exactly like that of Encanto but without all the heart. It is literally the meme of "Can I copy your homework?" "Yeah but change a few things so it is not too obvious."
Also Asha deserved a pretty dress in the end like wth are you going to sell to little girls Disney you are all about money and you failed miserably even at that.
And it is for real soooo unfair how the queen did get a pretty dress the whole movie and Asha only got some lazy ass sparkles added to her boring ass dress.
Asha... not bad, ok, but she is copy paste Anna, Mirabel, and Rapunzel. Youtuber ModernGurlz is right about Disney's "adorkable" problem. All their main girls since Rapunzel have the same "quirky" personality save a few details. I have liked them all but it is getting boring. Give me a princess with a monotone, sad personality, give me a shy princess who only smiles and talks around close friends, give me back the classic super girly personality Aurora and Snow White style, give me an angry girl with a brutal sense of humor like Merida. Be creative, please!!!
I love the queen's design, super gorgeous. Too bad her character added nothing. Her help was barely needed since Asha's friend had already sneaked them into the castle and it was her who deciphered the king's magic. A super villain couple would have been way more fun.
Oh, yeah, Asha's friends. There were so-damn-many of them and only like 3 were rememberable or needed for the story.
The villain is a complicated issue. I appreciated Disney's attempt at another fully evil character, I liked how he wasn't yet another badly set up "twist villain" revealed only at the end. But I didn't like the end result that much.
His backstory was super underdeveloped and to "get" his motives better, if they really wanted to make him evil-yet-complex, they should have shown us a flashback of him losing his family Encanto style (They copy pasted the start might as well do the same with the antagonist backstory.
What the hell was the missing piece of tapestry for if it wasn't going to have any significance later on? Did the writers just forget or what even?
Worst part for me: The stakes were low as fuck. Disney doesn't respect its target audience, nowadays it thinks that children can't handle anything worse than a main character getting disappointed. The worst this "super evil" villain does is make people sad temporarily, for like two minutes (Kid you not), like one character stays sad for longer but MOST people in the kingdom seem happy and normal after giving up their wishes, he legit just makes people sad a few minutes (Again, I kid you not, no one dies, the wishes he "eats" to make himself stronger come back, nothing he does has a permanent, devastating effect, he is not even revealed to have killed Asha's father in a dramatic way or something). Yeah he makes people forget their wishes which is pretty sketchy but up to that point he seemed to have complex reasons for that, reasons that seem to disappear or have never even been there the second half of the movie when he magically becomes more evil due to a forbidden green spooky magic he uses, and then suddenly he becomes Maleficent (The cool, perfect villain version, not the woobie one) style evil in a very, very rushed and over the top way. I feel like he should have started up as fully evil with no backstory (Just a simple, Gaston or original Maleficent style, self centered guy, who wants more and more power and adoration), and simply gotten worse and stronger OR given more complexity as to why he became that way, but instead we got this weird thing in between where it is clear he just wants power and love from the people for the sake of it and yet he has this half-made sob story on how his family died.
There was a great lack of originality in this movie at the climax as well. Anyone watched "The little mermaid II"? That was pretty much it. Villain gets power boner, says he will enslave everyone (Worst thing he does in whole movie and yet no one trying to defy him dies at least off screen or gets hurt in any meaningful way). Then heroine saves the day.
The funniest part of this movie is that the villain's fate is worse than anything he ever did in the movie I swear. He gets trapped in a freaking mirror and then locked up in a cell (Similar to the Little mermaid II villain's end too lol). That is straight up torture till death, it is so fucked up. And his wife who literally sees how the green spooky magic is the main thing responsible for his bad day (If we are being honest that is all it was, other than the taking wishes part he seemed to be a good king) leaves him to rot and becomes queen Catherine II style, it is hilarious. Like girl, you turned against your husband like five minutes ago because apparently through decades of seemingly loving marriage, you never knew he was evil but now somehow you are ok with him rotting in solitary confinement till the end of time? So dorky and silly. So bad, so bad.
Lastly, that goat was annoying as hell.

⚠️ Wish Defense Rant Warning ⚠️
ASHA DIDN'T WANT ALL THE WISHES TO BE GRANTED. I can't stress that enough.
Everyone is all like "Asha wanted all the wishes to be granted not all wishes can be granted that's so unrealistic you can't grant everyone's wishes and Magnifico isn't the villain"
Asha didn't want all the wishes to be granted. She VERY CLEARLY stated that she wanted to give the wishes BACK to the people (because Magnifico literally ripped the lives out of them by taking their wishes!). She even SAID that the dangerous wishes could be stopped!
ALL ASHA WANTED WAS TO GIVE THE WISHES BACK TO THE PEOPLE, NOT TO GRANT ALL OF THEM. She wanted all the wishes to have a chance at being granted, not to be granted. And through giving them back, the wishes could then be pursued themselves through their own determination; not relying on Magnifico to grant them.
"Giving the wishes back" and "granting the wishes" are two completely different things!
And not everyone's wishes were even granted at the end of the movie! They were left to pursue them themselves if they chose to do so. It's exactly like what Sabino said; "I may not pursue my wish but it's nice to know that I can."
The plot was not about Asha wanting to grant everyone's wishes. It was about giving them back (because you literally lose a piece of yourself when you give up your wish to Magnifico!!!) and restoring the lives of the people of Rosas.
People are acting like the wishes are like "oh, I wish I can have a ham sandwich for lunch tomorrow" Like no! The plot clearly states that the wishes aren't just any wishes. They're the ones that drive your heart, the one that makes you who you are. How would you feel if you gave your wish to Magnifico and you got your memory erased, and you don't even remember the most important part of yourself?!?!
People are even complaining about the concept of the wishes being in magic spheres. They're even complaining that "you can literally see the wishes in the spheres!" Like...obviously! How else is Magnifico supposed to see what the wishes are?!?!?!
I even heard someone say like "You can't grant all the wishes, like you can't grant a 5-year-old's wish to become a monkey" Did you even pay attention?! The plot clearly states, MANY times, that you have to be 18 or older to give up your wish to Magnifico! By then, the wish that drives your heart will probably be connected to your passion (like singing or music or baking, etc.).
Magnifico "decides to grant the wishes that are good for Rosas" because the wishes power his sorcery and magic when destroyed. And Magnifico literally makes his people forget the wishes they made, that's basically ripping out their personality from them! Giving their wishes to Magnifico literally rips the life out of them and physically drains them, and it pains them when their wishes are destroyed entirely. And then he's driven LITERALLY INSANE AND COMPLETELY UNHINGED with his sorcery. He literally keeps the wishes for himself. He literally ONLY GRANTS THE WISHES THAT BENEFIT HIMSELF AND HIS POWER. He's literally so manipulative and LIES about the wishes being dangerous! (He OUTRIGHT LIED about Sabino's wish. Inspiring the next generation is not a dangerous wish!) He's literally a narcissist.
HE IS THE VILLAIN.
Asha was actually a great protagonist. She does have some of that "adorkable" Disney heroine feel, but that doesn't make her a bad character. She was an amazing, very well developed character and her personality was great. Edit: she was NOT adorkable. She was such a well developed character and she was amazing.
I loved that she sketches and even does flipbook animation! SHE WAS NOT SELFISH. She didn't want all the wishes to be granted, she wanted to give the wishes back.
And apparently "This Wish" is getting hate just because there wasn't a big belt in the song. It's not that kind of song. Disney movies use songs to push the plot along. The overall tone and dynamics of the songs are what help the story along. "This Wish" is not one of those songs that has a loud belt in it. It's supposed to be quieter. Disney songs sound like they do for a reason. "This Wish" was beautifully performed by Ariana DeBose and didn't need a big belt.
Disney, David Metzger, Benjamin Rice, and Julia Michaels used a fresh approach on the songs and the animation; and because it's different than the most recent Disney animated movies, everyone goes lashing out on it just because it's fresh and new.
Clearly, people didn't pay attention when they were watching it.
Did they even watch Wish? I'm halfway convinced that secretly there's some sort of doppelganger bad version of Wish they watched, because we definitely did not watch the same movie.
The animation was absolutely gorgeous, the music was so fresh (and I may or may not listen to the soundtrack on repeat), the characters were awesome, the animation was absolutely stunning, the humor actually cracked me up, and this movie made me CRY and it gave me so many feels. Everything about this movie makes me so happy, it's such a fresh approach for Disney and it's a perfect love letter to Disney animation.
Disney genuinely worked so hard on Wish and it makes me so upset to see all the hate that it's getting.
Like Disney actually makes a really good movie for once and everybody's hating on it.
I understand the reasons that people didn't like Wish, and some of them I agree with, but that doesn't mean that I don't like it. I loved it and I thought it was great! I agree, there could've been some things better about it (they could've made it longer, that one lyrics "shareholders", etc.) but you don't have to go all out on hating this movie.
Could it have been better? Totally! Was it a horrible movie? Absolutely not.
All these "critics" and "movie reviewers" are just so nitpickity. They see a few TINY things wrong with the movie and then go "this is the worst Disney movie ever" and "this sucks so bad" and "Magnifico is the good guy" And they keep saying "this is an insult to Disney fans". How would you know? You're not a Disney fan, so how would you know? (Most) Disney fans, including me, actually loved the movie!
I'm literally crying because all the "reviews" are so negative and they're completely ruining this amazing movie for me. I just feel so shut down because (I'm sorry, I have to say it) all the negative reviews are wrong. And some of these "critics" are making these reviews without even having seen the movie!!! Wish was so magical and breathtaking, and it's been Disney's best movie in a very, very, very, very long time.
People keep bringing out all the negatives of Wish and never the positives. If they keep bringing up the negatives, people will only ever see Wish as a bad movie. Yes, there were some flaws (no movie is perfect!), but that doesn't mean that there's nothing good about it.
Disney was truly trying their hardest and yet Wish is getting hate after hate after hate. THEY GAVE THE FANS WHAT THEY WANTED. Incorporated 2D animation ✓ Fresh music ✓ Fairytale ✓ Original story ✓ Stunning animation ✓ Truckload of references ✓ Great characters ✓ Good protagonist ✓ Amazing songs ✓ An actual classic Disney villain with a great upbeat villain song (not to mention a DILF) ✓ Breathtaking design ✓ Detailed plot ✓
And yet people are STILL complaining!!! (I mean most of them aren't Disney fans so how would they know if a Disney movie's good or not)
I'm starting to think that this was a movie specifically aimed at fans; and it's getting so much hate because these "critics"/"reviewers" and these people watching the movie aren't Disney fans and they don't understand the magic and how hard Disney really worked on it.
They're like "oh the plot is so unoriginal". Since when has Disney ever made a movie specifically focusing on wishing, with tons of references, blending 2D style with 3D animation, and satisfying various fan demands? Like what Disney movie has ever had a plot so similar to this one? That's what I thought. NONE. It was literally made in honor of Disney 100. YES, there ARE callbacks to previous Disney movies (such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, etc.). But these people are looking at all these similarities, then IMMEDIATELY jumping to "oh the plot is so unoriginal because they're combining previous Disney films to make this one".
And they're all like "oh the concept art was better". If you liked the concept art, that's great! I LOVE IT TOO! But every final design is carefully chosen for a reason.
They're all complaining about "Star could've been a shapeshifter and Asha and star boy could've had a romance". (but ngl I LOVEEEEE all the fanart and the concept art) and "we were robbed" and "it would've made the movie better" You're missing the point! Star carried the movie with Asha just fine as just a cute, magical, nonverbal star. STAR IS ADORABLE AND IS BY FAR ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS FROM THE MOVIE. Wish was not a movie that needed romance. It would've been nice, sure, but the plot works without it.
Edit: STARBOY WASN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE A LOVE INTEREST FOR ASHA. (Just found that out)
Also, people complaining about "we need romance" and "Disney hasn't given us romance in so long" Elemental. Did you watch Elemental?!?! That had romance!!!
Just because Asha's friends are based off the seven dwarfs doesn't mean that they're not great characters! Sure, I wish that they were a bit more original, but that doesn't mean they're bad characters! They might be based off of the seven dwarfs, but it WORKS. I loved all of Asha's friends.
Honestly, all of the hate for Wish is just plain hilarious now because none of it is even accurate.
As a Disney fan who actually loved it, I'm so so so scared of the hate I'm gonna get. Because the people who hated it are basically saying "either you hate it or you're wrong". And I shouldn't have to worry about that. Like what have I ever done to you? I'm not hating on the things you like, am I? Like I feel so bad about myself now because it seems like the only right thing to do is hate Wish, and that I'm not allowed to like it because a majority of people don't and that I'm a horrible person for liking it. I feel so terrible about liking Wish now because a majority of people are saying it's so bad and that if you don't despise it, you're wrong. And I don't think I should be feeling this way.
Edit: I can't even bring myself to even listen to the soundtrack anymore. As if someone is watching over my shoulder and will find out that I'm listening to it, and then they'll attack me for it.
I just wanna cry tbh like this is just so hard for me to deal with. I'm literally not allowed to like anything anymore. It's "it has to be 100% perfect with no flaws whatsoever or it's horrible".
Seriously?!?! Like that's so unrealistic no movie will ever be absolutely perfect all movies have flaws!!!
I WENT TO SEE WISH AND EXPECTED BETTER. I didn't get what I was expecting (and actually was a bit disappointed) but I STILL LOVED IT. You can like movies that have flaws. Sure, Wish wasn't perfect and yes, THERE WERE FLAWS. But that doesn't mean that there weren't good things about it either!!!
Most people who watched it I don't think payed attention to the movie (because what they're saying about it doesn't even line up with the plot!). So if you're hating on Wish, please keep your opinions to yourself and don't lash out on the people who liked it. You're perfectly entitled to your own opinion, it's just that some opinions are very hurtful to others and some aren't true.
Wish was a masterpiece (in my opinion), I enjoyed it a lot.
EDIT: I just found out that Wish won awards for "Best Animated Feature", "Best Songs", and "Best Original Score". If this doesn't tell you that this is a good movie, I don't know what will.

The downfall of the Emporium
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve made a small rant on some of my initial posts with all my trip photos but here’s going to be a much more organized one.
Diluted goods
I have vivid memories back when I was a child of the store being chocked full of everything you could possibly imagine. A massive section of plushies, mugs, collectible toys and it just kept going. It had everything. Generic to parks specific! You could pick up something from Frontierland you missed on your way out, you could get a Minnie doll and things you hadn’t seen anywhere else!
On my last trip it had… the same few things every other gift shop carried. Three or four collections , a small wall of stuffed animals and a huge amount of munchlings. They didn’t even have generic Disney items- the very basic Mickey Mouse or Minnie Mouse plush just was not there. It was the same 10 stuffed animals of everywhere else. This huge section of the store I remember so vividly was reduced to a small wall.
There wasn’t all that much Disney world stuff even! Or new Disney 100 or pride just more of the same few things every store had.
Am I misremembering
Am I just letting nostalgia clog my Brain? I remember even just a few years ago while there was some repeating items around most stores would have more unique items. Epcot would have stuff for Epcot, Hollywood studios for Hollywood! Each store this trip rarely had a thing related to their park or attractions- they rarely even had generic Disney just the same 4 merch lines. I feel like I’m going insane. Even the hotels had the same thing. Some gift shops are like that, yes, but others for spesific attractions… you would think. The only few on the top of my head that had things related to their ride was
- Flight of passage
- Expedition Everest
- Tron
- Haunted mansion
Theming-
Like all things this trip the emporium got a nice clean up and update and the shop’s straight down Main Street are just as themed as ever. I’ve always appreciated that. However there’s these signs calling it a “must do” and a “main street staple” and yet… where is what it’s known for? All that it had inside was nothing like what it should be or is renown for. Disney clearly knows how much of a staple shopping there is but won’t give it the merchandise it needs to thrive.
Overall a very confusing and disappointing shopping experience.

Little Disney rant in honor of The Little Mermaid coming out tomorrow
This whole conversation about race swapping characters blew up when Halle Bailey was cast as Ariel, to the degree where I think people are totally overlooking a major detail about why she was cast. Forget about race, SHE’S A MUSICIAN. She has an absolutely gorgeous voice (she’s an actual SINGER), and the Little Mermaid is a MUSICAL. Y’all got so pissed off when Beauty and the Beast came out because Emma Watson couldn’t sing, but here they’ve cast an amazing singer as Ariel! Singing is a huge part of Ariel’s character, RACE IS NOT. Obviously finding a talented musician for this role is more important than race.
That being said, Disney has been absolute infuriating recently, and race-swapping characters for reboots is a good example of how lazy they are. I’m not trying to argue that race-swapping characters is an inherently bad thing- look at some of these little kids reactions, obviously this has a good impact on some of the target audience. But you know Disney isn’t actually doing any of this for the benefit of anyone except themselves. The harsh truth is that Disney is just doing this to be able to claim they’re inclusive, while supporting their lazy habits. If they actually cared, they’d be creating new stories, and actually treating these characters with respect. But they’ve been putting in absolutely ZERO effort recently. And it’s not just about race! Disney has just been pumping out these mediocre to shitty reboots, sequels, and prequels, and just refusing to create new content.
What I don’t understand is that Disney was never 100% original. Since day 1, Disney has been adapting classic fairy tales, folktales, and myths. So it’s not like they’ve run out of inspiration in any way possible! There are so many cool stories out there for Disney to adapt, from any number of cultures around the world. But there’s been a serious lull in this classic content recently. Why? Money. Instead of creating quality, creative material, they’re making these unoriginal cash-grab movies, putting extremely little effort into their creation or marketing, and doing nothing new or interesting. It’s absolutely unacceptable. Disney is the biggest entertainment company out there, with an absurd amount of money. They actually have the resources to be creating art, and taking creative risks. They could be doing literally whatever they wanted, and instead they’re doing nothing. It’s infuriating. I read somewhere that Disney was planning to return to 2d animation. I think that would be great! A return to their roots is exactly what they need- although, I don’t know if this is actually true or not. I hope it is! Anyways, I don’t think it’s any secret that no one is asking for more of these reboots. Hopefully Disney will tune back into its audience, and wake up.

So, about Wish...
Yeah, okay. No spoilers for this one. But some of you really, really need to be told a couple things.
Yes, Wish is by no means perfect. It falls flat at some points, it lacks some vital elements in storytelling, yes, you're right, YOU'RE RIGHT, get your fucking pin and go. Sit down. Listen.
Wish's premise of not trusting a higher power to make your dreams come true is NOT. A. BAD. THING. What god, any god, acts as a genie for you? Introduce me to that kind of faith, because there are a couple things I'd like for myself and those I love. You cannot, because that IS NOT HOW FAITH SHOULD WORK. Faith is meant to support you, to hold you, but not to GIVE YOU EVERYTHING YOU WANT just because you believe really hard.
I've seen posts saying that old Disney spoke of wishes coming true by having faith. Okay. No. Just no. Maybe in the old movies with fairy godmothers and shit, but modern Disney, hell, even modern princesses take the reins of their own life and MAKE IT HAPPEN. Wish is not the first one to say YOU control your destiny, and YOU have the power to fulfill your dreams. Tiana worked like hell to get that restaurant of hers. Rapunzel escaped her tower and defied Mother Gothel. Merida and her mother work on their relationship to break a curse. Elsa and Anna charted their own paths while staying true to themselves and one another. Mirabel trusted her family and herself to rekindle their miracle. No god, no higher power, it was ALL THEMSELVES.
It doesn't mean you have to be selfish or do it all by yourself. It means, shit, trust your own capabilities and those around you, and you can take the wheel of your own life. Independence is not a bad thing, and it doesn't have to be against faith!
Hate on Wish for other things. But not for its message, which is one of the best messages Disney has thrown out there in a very long time.

So I really don't like the live action Disney remakes, but I think what makes them extra frustrating is that every single one has just ONE moment where I think "Oh this is something that's better than the original" and it's like the potential for something great was there but never allowed to grow.
In Cinderella it's how they make the Prince more of a character, bit to the films detriment as Cinderella herself is rather bland in comparison.
In Beauty and the Beast it's Maurice. Just wanna hug that guy in every scene he's in.
In Aladdin it's Friend Like Me. Not necessarily better than the og, apples and oranges, but it's the peak of the films energy, visuals and Will Smith's performance.
In Lion King it's Timone and Pumba. Specifically the Be Our Guest parody.
In Peter Pan it's the backstory of Hook and the relationship between him and Peter.
In the Little Mermaid, I actually found a lot to enjoy in this one even if I still wouldn't call it good. Hard to say if my favourite was their version of Under The Sea or Ariel's new song when she becomes human (God Halle's voice!!).
Lady and the Tramp is the only one I'm struggling on but it was direct to streaming so I wasn't expecting much. Diverse casting I guess?
Mulan....I'll be honest, I do not remember if I've actually seen this or just seen a lot of clips. Pass. If someone thinks of something they liked in this, mention it.
Maleficent I know technically isn't a remake but it does follow a lot of beats from Sleeping Beauty. This is a guilty pleasure for me, even if I hate what's done with the king and the good fairies. Just everything involving Aurora and Maleficent and Diaval is found family gold though.
Oh and I know it's not in the same league but shout out to 101 Dalamations for Glenn Close. Iconic.
Jungle Book I barely remember much of other than I prefer the ending with him staying rather than going to the man village.
(Also I'm not counting Alice in Wonderland because they're more sequels to the originals rather than remakes).

Dudes. Wish is like soup without liquid. Its a Disney movie, where they forgot to add a story. Because they couldn't tell their story, through song. WHY DID YOU CHANGE THE FORMULA? AFTER 100 YEARS?! Not only change it, but just, raw chicken, unseasoned. Wth.

tired of Disney cancelling every single show with even an ounce of LGBTQ/POC representation. There are so many shows I’ve grown to love that have been canceled by streaming services for “not bringing in enough money” (code for “we can’t sell this in foreign countries against queer rights so we’re just giving it the axe”). Shows with not only representation and their own devoted fan base, but shows with excellent writing, well-developed characters, amazing animation or set pieces, and all-around entertaining substance. I’m just so sick of this. Disney, do better.

bruh Disney is making an inside out series
(the wreck it Ralph cast: Are we some kind of joke to you)
I’ve seen a lot of posts on different sites talking about how wreck it Ralph could have a really awesome series/show and I honestly agree
even with breaks the internet we could have had a show about Felix and Calhouns time with sugar rush racers since we never got to see that in the sequel. But no we’re getting inside out. FREAKING Inside out
I’m sorry for this small rant I’m just annoyed

Like I am not one to say "let's boycott" but someone I know just said
"well it's stupid to boycott Disney because they are too big to fail"
NOT WITH THAT ATTITUDE
Like. No??? If someone wants to boycott you shut up
I don't care if you were hyped that Disney is putting their biggest films of the last two years in the theaters again (without encanto so I don't get it)
Because the fact is this
Yes they make a disgusting amount of money
They are also not getting as many fucking money as they would want
This based on the huge amounts of parents writing online that they don't see the reason to spend cash on a whole family trip to the cinema since Disney plus is a thing
And Disney adults 100% already have Disney plus
Disney plus is to Disney what Twitter is to Musk
A huge fucking loss done because they wanted to feel like big brain boys. Without thinking that people are in fact, not, walking bags of cash
The people who have the cash are also usually the ones more stingy in my experience
And only a small fraction of people is that rich
I haven't heard anyone going to Disneyland in so fucking long between the people I know (for context I don't live in America)
So I understand the idea that "oh boycotting Disney alone is not much" true. But the fact is this
Disney ain't shit
Okay? If you go to animation fans everyone would agree their stuff is basic
Not bad, BASIC. In the sense that they do the bare minimun and expect people to suck their dicks
(this is by no means against the people trying to make good films. This is about the higher ups who don't let them fucking do their jobs)
The last cool films these years everyone recommends to me
Are all from different studios.
Like Disney is a corp. And here is the deal. No one likes to feel like a money bag to be harvested
If you show your clients your hand like that
People ain't gonna like it
Because even the most dumbass person ever doesn't like being used
Even their big media franchises are now suffering from fatigue among fans
This without also accounting that nobody gives a fuck about the live actions
The only products everyone is hyped about are the tv shows which at best get 3 seasons before being immediately cancelled
I am not saying Disney is failing
I am saying that they are fucking shit up and most Disney fans NOTICE THAT
But then this is just a rant of a 20yo something on Tumblr
Have a good night tri-state area
...
Hey is that a platypus?

The Disney company makes me so mad.. I'm this close to stealing "It's a Small World", Gran Fiesta Tour, The Pirates Of The Caribbean ride, Spaceship Earth, the Biergarten in Epcot, and Pinocchio Village Haus just to place them all in my backyard. I love all those rides and restaurants so very much. They're very dear to me. I sorta wish they weren't owned under Disney property especially knowing that they support a genocide. I genuinely wish something better owned them.
I mean to be fair,, it's mostly my fault I began getting attached to these Disney content years ago... Either that or it's my parents' fault for taking me when I was about 5 because I wouldn't be so attached to these rides if I didn't go and experience them. 😭

I need to rant about Cassandra from Tangled the Series
Let's get one thing out of the way; I love her! Got it? OK, let's move on! (spoilers for the whole show btw)
Content warnings: abuse, child neglect, toxic friends
Tumblr media
If you've watched Tangled the Series, you'll remember Cassandra, Rapunzel's Lady in Waiting, and the villain for season 3. She's a bit rough around the edges, she's goal-oriented, and she'd much, much rather be a knight than a Lady in Waiting. But, she fulfills her duties and takes care of Rapunzel.
Tumblr media
In season 2 and 3, we find out that Cassandra is Gothel's biological daughter (!), and this is where my rant begins. Because they. did. her. dirty.
Cassandra. Not Gothel...
When Cassandra finds out Gothel was her biological mother, she is rightfully angry - but she directs her anger at Rapunzel. ......... wut?
Tumblr media
I'll be honest, I have nothing new to add, so here goes; Cassandra was, throughout the show, obviously not happy with where she was. She knew she was capable of MORE, and she felt like the world held her back - which it did. She gave up opportunities in favor of helping Rapunzel, but she was also shown to be smart.
And that's the key word; she was smart.
Never once did Cassandra seem to forget about Rapunzel's situation; on the contrary, she was often a bit annoyed with how naïve she could be, which resulted in her being overly protective. She knew Rapunzel had been kept hidden and isolated, she knew she'd been imprisoned.
Tumblr media
When she got ahold of the moondrop after learning about her and Gothel's relation, Cassandra's rage is turned towards Rapunzel and the Kingdom of Corona (I love how Rapunzel is the Princess of Corona and was also forced to isolate...), and... why?
To me, it made no sense that she'd do this. Cassandra wasn't shown to have a bad life. She was raised by the captain of the guards, Rapunzel makes it clear that she loves her, even Eugene steps up and becomes a sort of low-key frienemie of her's... Cassandra's anger was so out of character it threw me off completely (still watched and loved the show!)...
Tumblr media
After watching the show almost 2 years ago, I talked with a friend about this. I no longer talk to this friend, because she was toxic AF, but I clearly remember her using this argument when I said Cassandra was deeply in the wrong: "Well, you just don't know how it feels when your mother loves someone else more than you!"
... there's a lot to unpack there, and I won't get into it. However, I still deeply believe my ex-friend was wrong.
Because Gothel didn't love Rapunzel more than Cassandra.
Gothel didn't love either of them.
And Cassandra was smart enough to have known, if not this, then that her biological mother didn't love Rapunzel.
Tumblr media
I like to put this into a modern perspective if I have to go that far: Imagine a woman kidnaps a little girl and keep her in her basement for 18 years. This woman has a daughter that, sure, she keeps her alive, but she also neglect her.
The daughter gets taken away for child neglect, and when she's 18, the girl in the basement gets rescued. The two of them meet, and the daughter starts attacking the girl and yelling at her because she "stole her mother's love".
I don't think any rational person would think of that as rational.
Tumblr media
So what is my problem? Well, my problem isn't Cassandra or that she became the villain by season 3 - my problem is that it was handled through victim blaming despite having a lot of potential.
How could this've worked? Let me se...
We keep everything the same - Gothel is still Cassandra's mother, she finds out the same way, but! She tells Rapunzel. She's crying, maybe even apologizing (even though she doesn't have anything to apologize for), and the two of them bond even more over their shared trauma caused by Gothel.
But then people find out. They start alienating Cassandra, seeing her as the daughter of the woman who kidnapped their princess. Even the king and queen demote her, her adopted father, the Captain, can't do anything.
Rapunzel tries to help her, but Cassandra's life falls apart. Not because of her, but because of her mother.
She's angry. She's spent her whole life serving and protecting, being there to take care of the Princess and doing everything in her might to prove herself as a good soldier.
And just like that, it all vanishes.
She becomes desperate. And this is where Zhan Tiri comes in.
Tumblr media
She shows up like a little girl, still, but tells Cassandra she knew Gothel and that the two of them learned about the powers of the sun drop together; and she knows how Cassandra can right her mother's wrongs.
Zhan Tiri starts gaslighting Cassandra when she won't have it at first, telling her her friends are being fake or doesn't completely trust her - basically sowing doubt like in the actual show.
In the end, she manage to convince Cassandra that the moondrop will have the power to make everyone forget Gothel is Cassandra's mother. This'll give Cassandra something to do in season 3 instead of just kinda walking around (now she has a lot of memories to erase), but the moondrop and Zhan Tiri will also have time to eat her away even further.
Tumblr media
Cassandra does wrong things. She hurts people. And when her friends tries to stop her, her mind's been twisted into believing that it's because they're afraid of her mother. Feeling lost and hopeless, we get the same conclusion with a few tweaks, specifically to her motivation and hatred towards Rapunzel.
Cassandra no longer hates Rapunzel or her friends; she hates Corona for turning on her, and she hates herself and her mother. But she is still, deep within, a hero driven by morals.
Tumblr media
Does this have any big conclusion? No? Purpose? Uh... I guess "@disneyanimation, please hire me, you won't regret it"? Other than that?
... nah, I just remembered my friend's half-assed excuse for Cassandra and got really mad...

Why Chad and Audrey's relationship isn't healthy;
Tumblr media
In my opinion at least. Here is the rant.
🤴👸👑🤴👸👑🤴👸👑🤴👸👑🤴👸👑🤴👸👑
Okay, so a friend and I were talking about these two and came to the realization that both their romantic and platonic relationship is unhealthy. Even though we both love their friendship.
And here's why:
1. The lack of communication.
In Audrey's diary (I think that's the book it came from), it states the following:
Tumblr media
Which implies that Audrey never explicitly told Chad that they were just doing this to make Ben Jealous.
Implies that she just assumed he knew that.
And making assumptions in any relationship, not just a romantic one, is a bad move and can make for an unhealthy relationship. Especially if one isn't broken out of this habit.
Now, we don't know for sure how many times Audrey or Chad just assumed the other was on the same page as them but we can reasonably guess that it happened alot. Especially since Chad still doesn't seem to be aware that she doesn't have feelings for him in d3.
So we can definitely mark down lack of communication as being one of the many reasons their relationship is unhealthy.
2. Their codependence on one another.
The two of them seem to be codependent on one another.
Think about, in most of the movies, they're usually seen together when not in class/practice. And niether of them really seem to have friends outside of eachother.
And if you believe, like I do, that their parents aren't very involved in their lives, and that the two of them bonded over that, than we can assume that they spend even more time together than what we see.
And while in small doses codependence is fine, in big doses? It's not. Obviously.
3. Audrey never apologizes to Chad (that we see).
Think about it. I know alot of people don't like Chad, but Audrey is supposed to be his friend. And friends are supposed to apologize when they mess up.
Like when Audrey mistakenly assumed that Chad understood they weren't really dating without having specified that to our knowledge.
Or , Like when they take their anger and frustration out on someone who wasn't the one who caused those feelings.
Like Audrey did to Chad in d3 when she yelled at him and locked him in the closet for things that weren't his fault.
And
4. Imbalance in the relationship.
I'm not talking about a power imbalance, no. Though one could make an argument for that.
No, I'm talking about one person putting more into the relationship (platonic or not) than another.
Like Chad does. Time and time again.
Think about it.
Chad has always agreed with her on her opinions/feelings towards the vks.
He tried to protect her grandmother when he thought she might be in danger even though it was misplaced.
He listened to her insecurities and fears about the vks when Ben wouldn't.
He cared about their relationship (their romantic one) more than Audrey did and did his best to make her happy.
He went out of his way to get her in d2 when he had already paid for his Collastion outfit and didn't ask for compensation with no hesitation.
He caught her when she fainted.
He joined her in d3 when she turned evil.
And what did we ever see her do for him other than be concerned during family day when he was sprayed with something that knocked him out?
Nothing that I can remember. Correct me if I'm wrong.
No to mention the whole Audrey valuing Ben more than she does Chad, even when the two of them are broken up.
An imbalance in a relationship is unhealthy.
If one puts more into a relationship than their friend/partner/family member, than it's unhealthy.
If anyone else can add anything (more reasons why their relationship is unhealthy or examples of things Audrey has done for Chad) feel free to add it.
And don't get me wrong people, I love their friendship. I just feel like it's a tad unhealthy.
Not to mention this whole thing:
