And before anyone says it Ariel's story is not inherently tied to race/ethnicity. Anyone can play her. But Nani and Lilo's ethnicity and even skin complexion is tied to the story as the big theme of their story is how indigenous hawaiians are mistreated on their homeland, how they are othered bc they look or act a certain way (which make the parallels to stitch all the more poignant).

I'm all for POC solitary but the simple truth is that the other nonblack WOC Disney Princesses are afforded more attention by Disney than Tiana. Aladdin has two sequels and a series. Pocahontas and Mulan both have two movies. The princess and the frog doesn't have a sequel (and it's not like it's a new movie like Moana! It's older thank Frozen, which has two movies and an actual section on disney plus dedicated to all the extra Frozen content. Also, Tangled also has a series despite being older than TPATF)
Tiana simply isn't getting enough attention.
Tiana has been ignored by Disney for ages and it is just so unfair. It’s clear at this point that they made her as a quota to make Black women shut up because they didn’t even put any heart in it. They made her the “Strong Black Woman” and had her overwork herself while giving her a pink-clad and feminine white blonde “princess” best friend. Then they turned her into a frog, made her literally only a human for the beginning and end of the movie. And THEN AND THEN RIGHT AFTER THAT they made a pretty delicate white blonde princess with shimmering golden magical hair in a typical fantasy fake-German setting, like I see what you did there Disney...just a huge slap in the face to Black girls feeling represented by Tiana that only served to remind us that Black women will never be worthy of the fairytale life to Disney’s eyes...they couldn’t even give us a genuine African/African-American fairytale...they forced Tiana’s story to be “realist”, set in the 1920s during segregation where racism was rife and she had to sit in the back of the bus, showing how Black girls can never be fairytale princesses, we can only struggle and suffer oppression.
And then right after that made a genuine light-hearted and magical fairytale with a pretty girly white princess Rapunzel. And then they made Brave. And then they made Frozen. Even the other princesses of color got this, Pocahontas even got a whimsical romance and that is arguably even worse as they made her adultified/sexualized fall in love with a colonizing piece of shit, but back to Tiana...they never truly cared about her or her story or the Black girls with princess dreams that they claimed to represent...I mean for goodness sake her name was originally going to be “Maddy” and she was conceptualized as a chamber maid to a white Southern Belle(who eventually became her best friend in the final product...🫤). And I like Tiana, as well as Charlotte, as well as the movie on a whole, but umm...
It shows that Disney does not care. Or at least didn’t care when they made it. The worst part is that they DID do Black girls right with Cinderella(1997), my all-time favorite movie, but it’s relatively obscure outside of the Black community. Cinderella was excellent. What’s stopping them from doing it again? Hopefully they’ll do right by us with the new The Little Mermaid movie, but I have my doubts already with Lin-Manuel Miranda and Aquafina being a part of it...and according to a friend of mine they didn’t even give Ariel a Black family and her prince also isn’t Black(I don’t think Disney has ever had a Black prince despite having three Black princesses 😭 ik we’re talking about misogynoir here but that’s still...well...not great...). But I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

I’m going to sad when the mcu gets the rest of the x-men characters. Seeing what they did to Wanda and other characters, I have no hope for the mcu adaptations. What’s worse is that this is the version that will introduce many people to these characters and I will see the mcu version everywhere. I know their going to fuck up my favs like storm and shadow cat.

I always thought that it was odd how disney still promotes pocahontas
Disney has a history of censoring or straight up ignoring their old problematic media but pocahontas? A true story about a girl who went through horrifying events that they romanticised and profit of it is still considered one of their memorable movies, she's still one of the official disney princesses despite the fact that how disrespectful the movie was towards matoaka

I hate when people are like "we need x animated movie in live action omg uwu" like. no we don't. I genuinely do not understand the desire to see the same story with worse visuals and less charm. do you people not want good new stories instead of something we've already seen that's just a cash grab?
and like I get that some people prefer live action (for some unholy reason) but it really says something that people can't just accept that an animation movie can be good on its own without being remade. I get remaking snow white or something, it's old, it was the first disney ever, whatever. but like tangled and moana? these were made in the 2000s. moana is so incredibly recent and it's great, and no vfx will look as good as the animation (especially with how bad vfx is currently. not blaming the vfx people, more the direction and the assholes not paying and crediting them).

Okay, so I started Andor and it's very good. Why is it, between the Kenobi series, the Mandalorian and Andor, that the best star wars to date has been TV series NOT the movies (with the exception of Rogue One). I want to see this quality across the board, Disney. I want Andor level tension, 2D animation and more nuanced story telling. Andor has realistic, sympathetic characters, a believable organization, subtlety in telling their story, and compelling motivations for the characters, in EPISODE ONE. Where the hell, has this quality been?!

So randomly I thought of the Kingdom Keepers series again, which I had stopped reading after Shell Game because…well as an adult and knowing the shenanigans disney does it read like a cult and it ended up going into the banishment box alongside Skulduggery Pleasant and most of my manga (stories for another time).
And I bop onto the tag for the series on a whim to see it’s getting rewritten and…no.  No this is bad it does not spark joy.
I’ve said a hundred times over how streaming is killing the archiving business, and apparently disney wants it dead too.  This is 1984 bs, plain and simple.
Because for starters, the original series captures the time’s zeitgeist—from a history standpoint, this is important.  Books written during certain time periods give insight into that time period because the writers were living through it and oftentimes focused on writing situations that their current readers could connect to.  And with the 90s through to the 10s having things moving so fast, specific windows into that time are important.  Right now I could show someone the second Jurassic Park movie and if they’re younger than me I’d probably have to pause the film to explain why Sarah Harding’s camera made that weird noise that startled the stegos (to explain: cameras used to use film, and when the end of the roll was reached it would rewind).  I watched the first Die Hard with Mom again recently and when Bruce Willis made the comment about a party line I looked at Mom and said “we’d have to explain that to someone now.”  (To explain: party lines were from the mid-20th century and were basically public private lines—if someone was on the phone and someone else on the party line picked up a receiver, they’d be able to hear the conversation; I know this because Mom had to explain it to me).  And yet when these movies came out, they needed no explanation because people knew what those were.
Now rewrite it all and erase that, replace it with modern references that will then become dated in fifteen years.  This is not a good practice, and combo’ed with disney’s habit of not showing their shows where most people can reach it and editing or undermining their work, and this goes from bad practice to absolutely terrible.
(also the one kid going from being Baptist to not?  Oh no you don’t honey that’s the Bible Belt that ain’t happenin’)

God The Owl House is so good but these last few episodes felt so rushed and while some of the scenes looked so incredible others just felt kind of cheap and while there was so much interesting plot happening the pacing felt so strange and I know it’s because they cancelled season 3 so things are having to change so basically what I’m saying is Fuck Disney

If frozen can get three movies and tangled is allowed a tv show and the first 8 princesses (sans Pocahontas) can get numerous remakes & spinoff media, then moana can get a sequel and PATF can get a show. Keep in mind tangled came out a year after PATF & completely overshadowed it & frozen is still popular compared to moana. So yes Tiana deserves her own show and theme ride Moana deserves a sequel and raya and wish deserve second chances.

The right answer to the frozen vs tangled debate is that they both suck and Moana is the best.

Why does disney have a personal vendetta against their sci fi movies

NGL I am so glad that they didn’t go with Bubo’s entire existence and it’s not just because I hate him or because my girl deserves better, but because of that…that kiss scene. It was gross enough on its own but also! People love to sexualize Black/brown women and Disney has a history of it. We’ve seen it with Jasmine, we’ve seen it with Esmeralda, and we’ve seen it with Pocahontas. And it would’ve happened with Isabela too and ruined an otherwise genuinely good film. So I’m glad they dropped it(Although sadly I don’t think they were even aware of those disgusting implications even when they scrapped the idea. Granted, nobody’s perfect, but still, ouch.). Women of color deserve so much better and we still don’t get enough. Thank goodness this movie exists, however, to remind us that we are still loved.

YASASHII NO DE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HE CAME IN 20 PULLS……………….. ……… ….. …. . … …. .. .. . . … . .. . .. . . . TRULY YASaSHii OF YOu, GOOD SiR 😭
***Crowley Groovy, chibi sprite, lesson lines, and vignette spoilers below the cut!***
Unfortunately, we do not get any more details on his profile. It’s the same as the profile he had before the update. Age and birthplace unknown, 185 cm tall, favorite food is wild game, and his hobby is vacationing.
SDFHEGYOGYFQEN;jkhaCWIDODB A LOT OF CROWLEY'S LINES ARE VERY CHILDISH OR GOOFY... Like he has one where he complains about Grim eating his snacks, tells on students who are sleeping in class, and gets distracted by shiny objects (which, I guess, is par for the course for a crow).
Crowley cannot attend Alchemy class and does not have Chats. His Buddies are Deuce, Vil, and Grim (with Grim being his Duo Magic partner). Deuce and Vil are interesting choices, I wonder why those two in particular... (Some friends and I were memeing earlier about how "all those characters have single parents so Crowley must be a single parent" and, "Vil is the Evil Queen and Meleanor is a princess of evil", etc.) Crowley can, however, attend the other lessons and it’s every bit as awkward as you think it is. (He has a pre-lesson line where he expresses surprise taht he has to do homework 🤡)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE CROWLEY DOPPLEGANGER ALLEGATIONS ARE TRUE 💀 He can just straight up run into a clone of himself during lessons… THE DEVS KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING, they even goofily have Crowley say, “Oh! Hello, me!” while the other Crowley is in class for the special lesson… THEY KNEW HOW DUMB THIS WOULD BE 😭 (The dialogue states the Crowley that barges into class is a magical projection…?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are some of his chibi sprites, as well as his Groovy candy. Crowley is not only very yasashii, but also very cute!!
He does, in fact, have vignettes but they are unvoiced. The first part is him running an assembly with the dorm leaders present. Crowley discusses the health of an adolescent apple tree in the school's courtyard, and no one seems to be interested in his speech. Malleus barges in late and, in a fit of anger at having not been invited, starts unleashing lightning. Wow, just like how Meleanor shoots lightning at Lilia... Like husband, like wife/j Everyone retires to their dorms, leaving Crowley to deal with an upset Malleus. The second part features Crowley having lunch with the other staff members (Sam included!). Each staff member is eating something different (Vargas is of course having eggs), and Crowley is revealed to have a great appetite in spite of his age. Crewel and Trein wonder how many decades old Crowley is, since he was apparently still headmaster when Crewel was a student and when Trein started teaching at NRC. Finally, Crowley is walking down main street and spots Yuu, Grim, and some mob students skipping class… so he uses his Lash of Love to discipline them! He binds everyone together and proceeds to drag them back to class. (It was surprising, we haven’t seen the Lash of Love since like… what, the prologue? I almost forgot about it.) Crowley alludes to the fact that even though the students joke about him, he is actually a very powerful mage that shouldn't be taken lightly, you know?? The vignettes end with Crowley referring to his students as "apple trees" that he is nourishing and watching over as they grow, which rounds us nicely back to the apple tree he mentioned in his first vignette.
BUT ANYWay HEREmS thE GROOviY in JUICy DETAIL INkjoW YOU WERE ALL WAiTING FOR
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s so pretty AaAAaaaaaaaAAAAAAAaaAaaAHHHHH 🥺 His grotesquely detailed hand reaching out to the viewer, who appears to be awaking from within a coffin… and do I have to mention the parallel between Crowley here and the mysterious hand that is offered to us in the mirror at the very beginning of the game????? Which could imply that Crowley is beckoning/summoning us into another world... The dim room, light spilling onto the Mirror of Darkness… So atmospheric!! If Crowley knows how to do one thing well and consistently, it’s drama~ The Groovy totally reminds me a lot of the prologue when Crowley tells Yuu to go before the mirror to get sorted. Omg guys... He's posted like Masquerade Malleus/j
One detail I super appreciate in this illustration is that you can see the dorm leaders in the background! If you squint, you’ll realize that there are 5 of them posing exactly like how they are in the following promotional artwork:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The one without a matching pose is Idia, who is present via his tablet. Though… I feel like we’re forgetting something 🤔 … Eh, I’m sure it’s nothing, nothing at allllllllll~
