Does it ever hit you that Martha sat down in New New York and told the Doctor that she needed his honesty more than she needed to go home and that religious music played in the background at that scene and it was almost framed as a confession, in the most religious sense, and go a little bit feral? That as early as her third episode, she was framed as his equal, equally divine, equally a doctor, able to confront him, able to make him honest, able to sympathize with him, able to abide with him? That so few companions have ever spent so much time in one time period with the Doctor (1969/1913, for example), being with him/her, not running, just staying? That for every fucking thing Ten did wrong as John Smith/after coming back to himself in Human Nature/Family of Blood, he trusted her enough to leave himself vulnerable and human in her care, because he trusted her as a Doctor, because she was just as much a Doctor as he was? That Martha was, more than any other companion of the Tenth Doctor's, his equal, that her final speech about not being second was not just talking about her not being second best to Rose but about being second best to him? That she finally understood what had been true from the moment that they met and she closed Stoker's eyes and the Doctor realized that she had not just bravery and cleverness but a kindness that he had forgotten, that Martha Jones, more than anything else, has been and always will be The Doctor?

You think Martha deserved better because you think her being attracted to Ten is some moral failing she needed to correct I think Martha deserved better bc the misogynoir in S3 in the show and fandom was so rampant that Freema Agyeman, other Black and mixed actors and fans are dealing with the repercussions over a decade later we're not the same

Thinking about de-aged Bruce via magical shenanigans being a bit of a menace. He will bite you if given the chance, and will draw blood. Slippery as an eel to catch. Don't even think you can corner him in his own home, he knows every single secret room and deep tunnel in the manor. Your eyes are scratch-able to him. Try telling he's the future and he's demanding you tell him who killed his parents. Can't tell him? Alright then, you're lying. He would've found out by now if this really the future.

Controversial take: Gun to my head, you can not convince me that Yor and Twilight like each other romantically. Half the time, they're just being nice to each other, but it's given a weird romantic style to imply otherwise. They get along, but all that exists is ground work for a relationship. There's interest and fascination, but they're both far too fixated on their own problems to move towards anything other than comradery. They genuinely just seem like good roommates, but maybe for a heterosexual couple, that's the pinnacle of romance.

Martha Masters
Martha Wayne maiden name was Masters. Before she married Thomas, she was known as the heiress of a well-known cheese factory, but that was not the life she wanted.
She ran away from home regardless of the consequences and gave up everything that had something to do with her former family. Sadly she couldn't keep in touch with her older brother and her nephew, little Vlad sure would grow up to be a great businessman but she wouldn't see it.
When Bruce Wayne took a blood sample from "Dani Phantom" he didn't expect their DNA samples to match as family (excluding the weird Lazarus Waters readings), when the girl got bored and confessed being a clone his suspicions got worse, did he had another lost son? A Lost brother perhaps?
Bruce analyzed Danny Fenton and Vlad Masters (Dani told him their identities, mostly because she was sure he wouldn't win against Danny, and bother Vlad was fun) , the family resemblance with the teen was undeniable (Blue eyes, black hair). Ironically, Danny had nothing to do with him, and the truth was that Vlad was his cousin; of course, that wouldn't stop the millionaire from getting suspicious about his supposed lost son.

So, to address the people defending RTD's writing THIS SEASON,
this is what I mean by UNNECESSARY BAITS.
it feels like RTD only came back to market New Who again.... these "Susan" baits ain't got shit to do with:
The song inside Ruby's soul
The maestro coming back
73 yards
Mrs flood
Why Ruby can make it snow
(see my tags)
#Don't dangle baits that you won't answer in the same damn season???#It screams “we want more viewers next year please come back" NO INTEGRITY IN WRITING AT ALL#If you want more viewers - THEN WRAP UP THE SEASON in a way where the audience aren't speculating WHY the “baits” that were dropped through#the season - why were these “baits” dangled to us when they play NO coherent part WITHIN THIS SEASON'S “mystery”??#It's cheap tricks for MARKETING#baits like these (Susan baits) have NO INTEGRITY
#but why is he dangling baits though#baits that have NOTHING significant to do with the season's “big reveals”#I have no issues with the silliness tbh#I feel like the theme of his comeback is “mirroring (his) debut series”#and also the adoption theme parallel to Chibnall's Timeless Child arc#but the “red herrings” or whatever baits he dangled on the viewers weren't even weaved together at the end of this season?#people say it's on purpose but he could have been NOT OBVIOUS about the baits that he knew he won't address till next season#UNANSWERED cliffhangers and baits FOR NEXT SEASON are a weak move#at least WRAP UP THE “SEASON BAITS” OLD MAN#the “Bad Wolf” arc felt “finished” after Rose's first season#THAT was good writing because obvious baits were NOT dangled and we weren't left with more questions AT THE END OF SEASON#we see Bad Wolf slowly comes back during Donna's run and that was good writing because it was IN THE SAME SEASON#we weren't left w/ UNANSWERED BAITS that was SO OBVIOUS throughout the season ONLY FOR IT TO HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BIG SEASON REVEAL#does that make sense#like the SNOW FALLING and the SONG IN HER SOUL and Maestro's speculations??? WHY BRING THOSE UP? And sutekh hitching a ride in time vortex?#COME ON

fundamentally i think the difference in my post there is that if you told rose what would happen to her at the end of s2, she’d go ‘cool 👍 so that’s not going to happen on my watch’ and then it would happen anyway because she can’t actually just avoid her fate by believing that she will. but if you told donna what would happen to her at the end of s4, she would be horrified not only by the situation but by the sudden realization that she doesn’t think she can avoid it, that this life won’t be something she’ll get to keep even if she did try to fight fate for it, and it would be whatever her reaction is to that feeling of helplessness that would break time so thoroughly that she’d escape.

Books of 2023: All Together, Now!
Here's everything I read this year, almost entirely chronologically. Only the very top shelf is out of sequence, because my other shelves weren't tall enough to support the full height of either WANDERERS or BABEL. Since those two spent all year lying on their side, I figured they deserved to be face out for the end of year wrap up shot. I'm partway through both DAEMON VOICES and IKESSAR FALCON, as evidenced by bookmark placement; I'm hoping to wrap those up early in the new year.
Overall: Excellent reading year for me! I'm much happier with the reading/writing/knitting balance that I found this year compared to last, and I read way more Very Good Books than Bad or Very Bad.
My favorite releases this year were:
NOTHING BUT THE RAIN by Naomi Salman (weird and deeply fucked up and funny--my trifecta!)
WALKING PRACTICE by Dolki Min (weird and DEEPLY fucked up and funny)
UNTETHERED SKY by Fonda Lee (right in the feelings and BIRDS)
SYSTEM COLLAPSE by Martha Wells (right in the feelings and Murderbot my beloved)
FLIGHT AND ANCHOR by Nicole Korhner-Stace (funny and fucked up and science experiment supersoldier kids on the run)
Thanks for joining me this year! I had a lot of fun logging my books photographically, so I'll be back in 2024 with an updated tag and more shrieking about faves.

you just like doomsday because you like the idea of rose being forever doomed but i’m sure you like martha coming back in s4 like. you pretend to ship both ninerose and tenrose but i know you just want an excuse to have rose away. btw ten loved her and cared about her way more than he cared about s3 main companion xx
I don’t know where you got the notion i hate Rose Tyler. I really really don’t. I love her coming back in series 4, I love her returning and no I don’t like her being ‘forever doomed’. I like it because it’s tragic, but it gets resolved later. I’m assuming you’re on about the ‘it’s my ending’ tag, which isn’t even in relation to Rose. It’s my ending because it’s so enjoyable, it focuses on the Tyler’s and the doctorrose relationship and even if the Dalek/Cybermsn battle needed more time, it was just fun.
Rose Tyler has always been an interesting character and I love her. Sure, i can pick out her flaws (which I’ve never done on tumblr), but you can do that with anyone.
I don’t ‘pretend’ to ship ninerose, tenrose or tentoorose (yk the non tragic ending for them), because I genuinely enjoy them.
I know Ten loved Rose more than Martha, that’s kind of the whole point. They are endgame, they have been canon forever, she is the love of his life. He was born out of love for her, tailored to be her ideal match and to love her like nobody else. Of course he loved her more than anyone else. And she loved him because despite his flaws he’s shown her a new way of life, she’s seen him change and grow and that means something. For fucks sake, she absorbed the heart of the TARDIS and became Bad Wolf. It’s down to them both loving each other, like she chose Tentoo yk?
What I think this is though is that you do not think I can like both. You do not think I can both love Rose and Martha. It’s always one or the other with no fucking leeway. Because I like Martha and because I like Doomsday, suddenly I don’t want Rose to be happy. I’m aware nothing I say here will actually ever convince I am not a hater who just cannot stomach a teenage girl being a teenage girl and that I want to burn her to the ground for the crime of not being Martha Jones. I didn’t even post the Doomsday post in any fandom tags…

Things that continually haunt me: New Who’s Companion-contemporary is a year ahead of the year it aired from Aliens of London/World War Three until the rewind in Last of the Time Lords, which resets it to correct contemporaneousness
