Do you have a opinion on the rise of the Jason and Stephanie ship?

Apologies anon -- the rest of your rant is valid and I hope venting helped you let off some steam, but I do try to keep raw character hate off my blog to minimize drama. Hope you don't mind that I truncated this down to just the question you wanted to ask.

That said, giving my honest opinions about this ship means saying some very not nice things so I just want to be clear that I'm an old school "ship and let ship" kinda fandom person, I truly do not care what other people write or do with their time.

But for me, the only interesting thing about Jay/Steph is that they both tend to be shipping black holes, so I wonder who's devouring who.

What I mean is, with the exception of stories where Steph/Cass gets thrown together in the background just to get Steph out of the way for other shipping to happen, whenever either of these two get shipped, said ship is always about them and what they ""need."" Jason's already got a bit of a reputation for that in fanfics, but it's also true with Steph, even in her canon relationships (her relationships with Tim and Cass are both very one-sided and only really serve to maintain Steph's continued existence). So if you put two black holes together, one of them has to eat the other -- I wouldn't touch any of these fics to find out for myself personally but my money's on Jason.

Other than that they just seem extremely misguided? Like, it's obviously a pairing drawn from the fandom misconception that Steph is a poor widdle sadgirl from the mean streets of the big city, instead of what she actually is: a middle-class kid from the suburbs with a shitty home life.

Personally, my interpretation of these characters is that they might get along a little because they do have similar attitudes re: punitive justice, but they'd never make it past working acquaintances. Jason would never stop calling Steph out on her bullshit every time she tried to pull her "woe is me I had it so very hard" schtick and would probably say that she's not a real Gothamite because she's from the mainland, the freakin suburbs, the way people from NYC will give you a hard time if you're from Staten Island. Which Steph of course would get upset about, along with being offended that he doesn't reinforce her victimization narrative, and then they'd hate each other.

So yeah no I don't see it working out.

implausible historical scenario: southern alexander hamilton (pt 2: washington's version)

Part 1: Grows up with Lavien, tragic lams version

here's the second scenario that would make southern A. Ham a possibility:

The rumors are true and he actually is Washington's son - I know, I know, I can hear Hamilton rolling in his grave already. But there's a reason the rumors circulated, it's really fucking interesting!

We know for a fact that the real Washington was minding his business 1754-1757, far away from Nevis - but he did go to Barbados with his brother in 1751. Let's pretend that he went back in an impromptu trip or that Lawrence managed to eek out a few more years, so they actually went later than 1751 (Unrelated, but him catching smallpox there + being exposed to Lawrence's tuberculosis might be the reason he was potentially infertile. If so, then the timing works out and doesn't conflict with his inability to have kids with Martha.) Maybe their ship was blown off course or needed some supplies, and stopped at Nevis. For whatever reason (my entertainment), he makes a series of questionable choices. Some people speculate that Alexander might have been the son of Stevens. I personally don't find this likely, but I can switch Stevens with Washington. I can and I did.

There are two main pathways I can see.

The first one most closely matches historical rumors and reality: no southern Hamilton. Washington leaves the West Indies oblivious, Ham comes to NYC, everything plays out the same - but at some point they figure out that he's his dad. People have already written a lot about this, but musical based, and for good reason. There's a lot of angst you can get out of it. Does Washington watch silently as Hamilton courts Elizabeth and is welcomed into the Schuyler family? Does Washington know that his son only had one friend at his own wedding? Worse, does Alexander still view James Hamilton as his dad, and beg him to come while ignoring the general? Do they work together better or worse than they do in reality? The possibilities! Imagine a world where there isn't a Reynolds Pamphlet but there is a Washington Pamphlet where Alexander confesses that he is the illegitimate son of the president after the Democratic Republicans got hold of some information. All of this is extremely soap opera, and almost embarassing in its drama but idc, it's fun.

Second, more divergent one: Yes, Alexander is illegitimate, but they find each other way earlier. It certainly wasn't uncommon for men of Washington's status to have bastards, and some did acknowledge their illegitimate children. Here, he'd be acknowledged, and raised in Virginia with the Custis kids (assuming Martha still marries George in 1759). I find this scenario intriguing for both the personal and political repercussions.

Personal repurcussions: would Hamilton have less issues if he was Washington's kid? Certainly his environment would be more stable, and Washington (given his frustration with a lazy Jacky Custis) would've been proud of such an intelligent, promising boy. People would be less eager to criticize/demean Hamilton (at least to his face), and he wouldn't be insecure in his class or geographical origin. I can also see him learning more political finesse and control if he grew up in Virginian society and with a steady, dedicated father. Would he have worked better with Washington if they were actually an acknowledged father-son relationship? Would Washington have planned to give Mount Vernon to him, since the Custis children already have their inheritance?

Now, if we assume that Hamilton’s policies remain constant, then his opponents lose even more major weapons than the Lavien world: perceived preference for the north and background. But then it also complicates Washington's legacy as general and president. Some historians argue that Washington having no perceived biological heir had some role in the trust people placed in him. If people know that Hamilton is his son, illegitimate or not, who has followed him through the war and into government, that's going to cause uneasiness. Maybe even do more damage to Washington's reputation than any real-life accusations of monarchy ever did, because this one actually has some weight. Ironically, it could be that this forces Alexander to be out of the running for the Secretary of Treasury position - having to work in the shadows, because the country is suspicious of anything and everything that looks like a king. More resentment!

But what if his beliefs do change? We get to see a Hamilton with connections to the south, just like the Lavien universe, but on crack. Because now his guardian isn’t just any southerner, he’s George Washington. It’s likely that just like Washington, going through the war would end up with him being a nationalist. But economically? If he didn't get that experience as a clerk in the West Indies (the period he said was the most educational of his life), or as an assistant to his merchant half-brother, then would he have the knowledge/insight to create his financial plan? Washington was on the same page as Hamilton, but Hamilton was doing the actual system-building. Going further, maybe growing up at Mt. Vernon happily and having only faint, distasteful memories of his tragic childhood in the West Indies actually makes him rear away from reminders of that life - maybe he has a fondness for agrarian lifestyle and lounging by trees reading philosophy, and an inherent dislike of merchants, business opportunists like james hamilton, trading, commerce. Maybe, god forbid, he ends up thinking a lot like Jefferson.

Who knows? A young Virginian Hamilton who has very close ties and pride connected to his country, meets an idealistic Thomas Jefferson and goes: "You are my role model and now I will emulate everything about you." People forget that Jefferson was 12 - 14 years older than Hamilton, it’s possible! The two didn’t hate each other right away! I can see them in this world bonding over Virginia and their intellect - perhaps, even if Hamilton veers towards being a nationalist, the lack of dispute on financial matters is enough for them to maintain a good relationship. There's even a possibility that Hamilton, like Madison, is a nationalist and writes the Federalist Papers but switches to the Jeffersonian side once Jefferson comes back. Certainly Madison and Jefferson would spend a lot of time trying to convince their wayward, fellow Virginian friend. Imagine a world where Washington is the biggest federalist and opposing his own son, who is in cahoots with a different Virginian in undermining his own presidency.

Mother's Day was lovely. The girls are old enough to want to plan fun stuff and my husband is generally a champ. He took the kids out with his MIL. I did the 1000 piece puzzle they bought me. Also, ate the frozen Imo's (St Louis style) pizza they bought me.

My husband told the kids to leave me alone in the morning so I could sleep in. Baby boy stood out my (locked for this occasion) door yelling "mom, Mom, MOM! I know you are in there." He cracks me up. The girl's set up a spa pedicure because they were sure I'd like to more than a real one. HA! HA! At the end of the day my husband told baby boy he could not have an Icee. Baby boy was apparently tired of his BS for the day because he responded by calling him a "meany rat." Probably not the appropriate response but we were dying laughing. Where does he even come up with this stuff?

We were all excited for the integrated class at the Special Ed school. Confirmed on the NYC Special Ed Facebook group that the school is great. Nothing but rave responses. Then we talked with baby boys SEIT - the masters degree Special Ed person whose been with him for two hours a day for six weeks. She's worried about the placement. She thinks he'll be bored and needs a challenging environment. I don't disagree on the challenging part. For next year (4K) he needs Kindergarten/1st grade learning and 3yo behavior expectations. We aren't going to find that so we are still thinking the Special Ed school is the best option. The girls (like many kids) also could have easily handled older curriculum in 4K but we weren't worried about them. Learning early doesn't seem particularly important. The difference is they would behave regardless. Baby boy needs constant stimulation to stay out of trouble. I don't care if he's learning to read early I only care that he may act terribly if he's bored.

The boy he scratched six weeks ago (where the Dad called screaming at me) punched him in the eye this morning. The school nurse called. I'm sure he was fine two seconds later. Not worried about him but we don't want anymore drama with the parents. In fact, I'd like to never see them again. The boys actually really like each other they are both just immature. Can we please get through this year??

On my rewatch. Season 2 had a totally different vibe to season 1. I think the music of 2 (especially the warblers stuff and increase in use of Kurt, Mercedes Santana to sing solos and duets) meant season 2 smashed it.

I actually think all of the seasons have a different vibe from each other, and each season feels like a sequel to the previous season instead of one, long story? Idk, does anyone else feel like that?

Even Season 1 kind of splits itself into two -- the first part being a biting and somewhat dark satirical look at the nature of show choir in high school - as seen from the teacher's POV (and with an 80s flavor to it). Where as the second half kind of leans into the drama of the HS kids a bit more, and leans into the more magical side of musical magical realism.

Season 2 just kind of knows that it's popular in its place in time, and kind of uses that to its advantages. It does rely on more popular music of the time, as well as doing a pretty decent job of juggling all of the high school drama that's going on. It shifts from being a smaller story about a HS teacher, and kind of moves into being a big, gay show without going to niche with it (like it kind of will in the later seasons).

Season 3 is a mess - but mostly is about getting these kids graduated and wrapping up Rachel Berry's high school story.

Season 4 is trying to be two different shows at once - Glee The New Class and Glee The College Years

Season 5 doesn't know what it wants to be and is just a bunch of crackiness to drown out grief, until the last arc where it's Glee NYC.

Season 6 kind of comes full circle and goes to fourth wall breaking satire again.

I was halfway through a Batman Begins reaction video when I realized like 80% of the fucking movie is Christopher Nolan telling people to stay out of the ghettos. Cause "the Narrows" is just Gotham City slang for "the ghettos". And as a white person who has spent their whole damn life living in the ghettos.........I cannot🤣

Oh, this whole fucking trilogy is trash.

And I'm not gonna lie my childhood neighborhood was more of a rural ghetto cause it was a small town. Where I live now is a lot more like a stereotypical, inner-city type of ghetto but I live in a mid-sized city. There's 64,000 people here according to Google and the city was literally built by the NYC Mafia families when they still had all the power.

I wouldn't go outside at night by myself where I live, but to be honest I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that anywhere cause I'm tiny and femme-presenting. So I stay indoors after dark, but it's nowhere near as dramatic as Nolan seems to think. Like there is crime, but all of the drama happens behind closed doors.

Like there was literally just a story in the news a few weeks ago about a fucking murder-suicide and some poor little kid ended up a fucking orphan. It didn't happen in the streets, though. It happened in some middle-class fucking suburb. That's where the real horror stories take place because in suburbia there's no one around to hear you scream and even if there is they don't care. How does the old adage go?

"Not my circus, not my monkeys."

Translation: Not my business, not my problem.

So movies like fucking Batman Begins is how you know Christopher Nolan is rightwing trash who has never even set foot in a ghetto in real life.

I went to create my own Reinterpretation of Solomon Grundy (for reasons I don't even remember now), and instead it somehow turns into some sort of family drama by the end? I don't know how I got there, either:

Cyrus Gold was rich and famous in the late 19th century. Owner of several successful factories, Mr. Gold was a minor robber baron. He wasn't as wealthy as Carnegie or Rockefeller, but he was decently successful and famous. He had a few parks named after him and even a couple minor statues or buildings in his honor.

Cyrus was also awful to his workers, however. He always payed them cheaply, refused to let them unionize and was all around a perfect example of the tyranny of the wealthy. Although him, his wife and his two kids lived luxuriously, all of his workers hated his guts. They began planning revenge and retribution, and one day soon they'd get their wish.

In 1894, Cyrus Gold came to Gotham City on a business trip (leaving his wife and kids at home in NYC). Late at night, he went out and got drunk. Then, while he was wandering the streets drunkenly, a group of bitter ex-employees ambushed him. They tied him up and dragged him to Slaughter Swamp, a horrible fetid bog on the outskirts of Gotham. There they shot him three times through the heart, and left his body to rot.

Cyrus Gold was 45 years old. Many people thought he had just disappeared, and life went on (including the lives of his wife and kids). This was the end of Cyrus Gold… Or so everyone thought.

50 years after death (in 1944), Cyrus Gold rose from the dead. His corpse had decayed and rotted, mingling with the algae and waters of the swamp. For years his body stayed there rotting and decaying. Until suddenly one dark october night, when strange and supernatural forces conspired to bring Cyrus Gold back from the dead.

Little more than a walking corpse, his mind was blank. He wandered into town and found his way to a homeless shelter. There, he was nicknamed "Solomon Grundy" by the other homeless folks, primarily because he remembered about his past life was that he was "born on a monday".

After the crisis (which happened around 1985 or so), Grundy's life begins to change, yet again. Grundy doesn't really remember the crisis, but the cataclysmic events of the crisis jostled the memories of his old self, Cyrus Gold. This leads to Grundy actually rekindling the small spark of humanity within him, as he tries to learn more about Cyrus Gold.

Sadly, Cyrus Gold was not a good person. As mentioned before, he was a cruel man, with an insatiable greed and a love only for his own family. Grundy hates Cyrus Gold, but still wants to try and reach out to his descendants.

Now for a brief history of the Gold family. When Cyrus Gold died in slaughter swamp back in 1894, the family fortune began to dwindle. For most of the early 20th century, the gold's still had some amount of wealth. But when the great depression hit, they lost everything. Nowadays the family is pretty much just like everyone else.

When Solomon Grundy goes to find one of his descendants, he finds a middle class single mother with her young son. Her great grandfather was the last member of the family to really remember the golden age of the Gold clan. But Marianne Gold? She's never known the good fortune her ancestors knew. Her life has always been middle class and hard. She's just a single mother desperately trying to raise her young and highly precocious son in upstate new york somewhere.

Strangely enough, when Solomon Grundy walks up to her house and tries to introduce himself to her, her son isn't remotely scared of him. She's terrified of this giant, shambling monster, but her son isn't scared. Maybe her son can sense the real goodness in Solomon Grundy's heart. In any case, Solomon Grundy has finally found a home again. Cyrus Gold may be dead, but Solomon Grundy will be a better man then Cyrus Gold would ever be.

Because Broadway musicals are extremely expensive to put on/attend, there's a limited number of them that can be created per year-- and an even smaller number that are good, and an even SMALLER number good enough to actually be remembered long-term. Imagine if Hollywood could only make, idk, 20 movies a year, and you had to actually go to Hollywood, California to see any of them (but you COULD buy a copy of their scripts, if you wanted.) This is basically what Broadway musicals are like.

Now: teens! Obviously, teens love movies. They do not all love the same movies, but most love many different genres of movies! There are even movies where it makes more sense than others that teens would like, that one would not necessarily label "teen movies." When you think of "teen movies" or "young adult novels," you think of very specific things,

With this in mind, we return to the previously discussed constraints of Broadway as a medium. It is very expensive to make Broadway musicals, and therefore, very high risk. And like movies, there's always been a dichotomy of enforcing the status quo vs challenging it. People tend to get into musicals one of two ways: there's a big show seen as so groundbreaking that non-Broadway ppl find out about it (think Hamilton mania circa early 2016), or their parents/school play introduced them to an album & they liked it. You can only get that groundbreaking musical impact once every 20 years or so. Tourists need an incentive to spend the money a visit to NYC takes, and an incentive to see a show when they visit, and an incentive to see YOUR show since they can probably only afford to see one. How do you make sure they want to see YOUR show?

Hey, you know who its really easy to market a status-quo enforcing work masquerading as rebellious to? Teens. You know who will get people to pay for an expensive trip to NYC and theater tickets, out of sheer annoying persistence? Teens. You know who is basically a bare-minimum two-for-one ticket sale, because their parents won't let them hangout by themselves on vacation? Teens. You know who has music and drama classes we can arrange whole FIELD TRIPS of ticket sales for?

You get it.

So like. Because of all this. In recent years. There's a trend of projects getting financed that perhaps might not have been if they did not contain elements which some very, very old very, very rich white guys think would Appeal To The Kids. They're not even BAD necessarily (although some are), they just don't have the enough meat on the bone to be instant classics-- and beyond the fact that for the price of tickets, if you aren't seeing an instant classic, you are getting ripped off...with so little QUANTITY, you NEED quality to make up for it, to keep people interested in the medium.

Movies I watched this Week #105 (Week 1 of year # 3):

4 Restaurant films + 3 with John Leguizamo:

🍿 As an ex-chef and as a person who likes to eat, I was looking forward to seeing the new conceptual thriller The menu. Unfortunately, it wasn’t satisfying. As a satire of the 1% foodie class, ‘Triangle of Sadness’ was sharper. As mouth-watering Food Porn a-la David Gelb, (who actually advised the director with hi-rez hi-end fine dining creations), it fell flat. As a wink & nod to Alinea Restaurant’s choreographed tabletop dessert, well, I wish I was able to enjoy it in Chicago instead. Otherwise, like the ostentatious dishes, it felt pretentious and vacuous. Leguizamo plays a washed up movie star. 6/10.

🍿 What ‘the menu’ wished it was, was Jon Favreau‘s sweet Chef, about a father and his 10 year old son who bond on a gastronomic cross country trip in a food truck called The Boss ‘El Jefe’. This was a charming movie that Adora & I watched many times. I believe that as times goes by, this will end up being considered as one of the best food-centric films, up there with Tampopo, Ratatouille, Babette’s Feast, Etc. Leguizamo played the line cook Martin, cooling his balls with corn starch. 9/10.

🍿 Lobster Soup, another slow, enchanting documentary from Iceland. It tells of Bryggjan, a small cafe in a tiny fishing town and the few locals who’s been gathering there for 40 years. The place had slowly become the cultural center of the town. Surprisingly, it was made by a Spanish director. 9/10.

🍿 I never heard of Dinner Rush before, even though it got good reviews when it came out in 2000, and was favorably-compared to other food-porn movies of the past. That Bob Giraldi, the director, was a NYC restaurateur himself, helped the authenticity of the kitchen drama (even though I’ll argue there were ‘too many cooks’). The background story is about some mafia guys trying to muscle in on Danny Aiello, the owner of the restaurant. Vivian Wu played a waitress who looked notably like AOC.

🍿 “… If I die, I’m going to do it stoned, and smiling in my bed…”

Repeated re-watch, American Ultra, a clever action-comedy about an artistic stoner, who’s actually a dormant Ultra super-agent. Jesse Eisenberg is the last person you’d expect to play a ruthless killing machine, so his love for girlfriend Kristen Stewart is the key to this innovative story. Leguizamo played “Rose”, his crazed drug dealer. To be watched while stoned.

Coraline, after Neil Gaiman’s Gothic dark story for kids. (Clip Above). A nightmarish vision of parallel world discovered by a lonely girl with too-busy parents. I can see why Adora had become obsessed with this story as of yet. Even her accent is similar to Coraline. The stop-motion animation was stupendous too. My favorite discovery of the week.

So after Coraline, I returned to the earlier Haunted House fantasy, Tim Burton’s Gothic comedy Beetlejuice. Weird and original Disnyfied vision of the after-life. With young Winona Rider and Dick Cavett. The Harry Belafonte’s Banana Boat scene. 4/10.

3 Titanic-adjacent films:

🍿 James Cameron’s masterful Titanic, first re-watch in 20+ years. Ambitious myth-making saga combining epic romance and maritime disaster. Still gripping suspense, pathos & thrills, played luxuriously with Enya-styled score, and exact skills. 3 hours and 14 minutes long, it is divided into two perfect halves: the first half is building the love, and at 1:38:00 they hit the iceberg. With a continual final shot. 9/10.  

🍿 Cameron’s very first short film, Xenogenesis, financed with $20,000 from a local dentist (who backed out after seeing the rushes). An experimental indie sci-fi with the seed concept for Terminator. Very badly done, and it didn’t help that the YouTube copy is very low-quality. 1/10.

🍿 Gloria Stuart was 87 when she played the old Rose in Titanic. She was 23 when she starred in The Invisible Man, James Whale’s brilliant horror classic. 7/10.

Immersion, a slow, ominous thriller from Chile. A father takes his two grown daughters sailing on a lake. He sees a sinking boat, but because the far-away occupants look 'suspicious’, he turns a blind eye to them and hurries away. The uneasy, suspenseful tragedy that follow reminded me of ‘Straw dogs’, even though there was no violence or assaults present, or a 2021 version of Polanski’s ‘Knife in the water’.

Recommended - but not for me: These types of films fill me with too much anxiety.

3 delightful shorts:

🍿 Jon Lefkovitz’s In perfect unison - where two characters do or say the same thing at the same time. A supercut using 100+ moments throughout film and television history, set to the tune of TV on the Radio's "Second Song".

🍿 Out of sight, a very cute story in Studio Ghibli style that doesn’t ever mention that the little girl is blind.

🍿 “...Our lower classes are desperately trying to escape the meteor through discount time travel...”

World of tomorrow, still my favorite science fiction film of all times, Genius animator Don Hertzfeldt’s Oscar nominated mind-bending, surreal masterpiece, “One of the greatest short films in the history of movies”. Free to re-watch on YouTube. 10/10.

In the recent My Next Guest with David Letterman he flew to Kiev and interviewed Volodymyr Zelenskyy at an underground station, in front of a small audience. It’s moving and tragic.

Can’t forget that Zelenskyy came first to prominence on live TV when he played the piano with his pecker.

Never heard of Andrew Callaghan, a 25-Year-old YouTube ‘Gonzo Journalist’, who just released This Place Rules, a wild documentary about the events leading to the January 6th insurrection attempt. He traveled around the country in his own RV, interviewing the craziest nuts and out-there Nazis, Alex Jones wannabees, toothless soothsayers, foreskin conspirators, and a bunch of Q-anon fanatics as they prepare themselves for the fascist revolution. Unsettling.

Adam McKay’s first film, Anchorman, a loud, low-brow and obnoxious ‘comedy’, with the always-insufferable Will Ferrell. Old-fashioned sexism geared for young teenage males made this a big hit. One point for coining the phrase ‘That escalated quickly’. 2/10.

Born in Busan, South Korea, but moved to London when he was 5 as his remarried to journalist from there.

Became a total drama geek, he was in every school production and constantly taking part in talent shows, as well as getting the ferry out to the mainland for auditions.

Spent years trying to follow his dream but didn’t manage much other than a toothpaste commercial and a multitude of extra work (but he was totally that kid from that toothpaste commercial, you know the one, with the annoying jingle that everybody always sung, when your character was only a kid themselves… yeah, that one). The final nail in the coffin came when he lost out on an audition to one of his best friends.

Decided to try and make it on Broadway instead and moved to NYC on a whim with barely anything to survive on —- he’d always loved the US and so he’d be getting the best of both worlds. He got nowhere and instead worked multiple jobs at coffee shops, diners, etc. Took a long stint at TGI’s in Times Square and kind of lived for interacting with the customers.

Eventually got a job as a city bus tour guide, which apparently he was great at, and also met his soon to be wife.

They launched a family YouTube channel through the channel she already had, along with their two kids Dea and Xavier, and it soon became pretty big, amassing around 5 million subs in the end.

Then Jay got diagnosed with testicular cancer, he pushed the whole family away and dealt with it himself, going into remission a little over a year later following surgery and chemo.

Went on a trip to where he was born, spending some time on discovering himself, he embraced Buddhism and explored the fact he had some days where he didn’t feel 100% male. That’s when he started to identify as a demiguy.

Got divorced from his wife, even though they definitely still loved one another, and then moved back to London —- Notting Hill to be exact. After six months or so back home he launched his own channel talking about his experiences during his life and what he’s been through.

He’s also a yoga instructor and holds a weekly class at Club Yoga.

Can be petty as hell, but is a total goofball and spends his life “playing up to the camera”.

Jury Duty

My husband's colleague is on the jury case for the NRA guy. My friend was on the selection for the Donald Trump case. She was not selected. How are they going to find anyone in NYC who doesn't hate Trump? How?

More PTA drama. More cussing. This time it was ALL CAPS texting about the person being a common thief. I'm staying out of it. The texting is totally unhinged. Yet, the person did do something stupid/wrong. Def not stealing but not smart either. The person getting yelled at is my friend. Its puts me in an awkward position of feeling bad I am not defending her while also thinking she is in the wrong. It's all happening over text. If it was in person I think it would be easier to jump in and ask them to discuss in a less hostile way. Anyway, messy in a way I want to avoid. I want to help my kids sweet little school not participate in adult drama.

The same friend offered one of our kids classmates mom a place to stay this weekend. The mom is a recent immigrant, single mom of three. The city is currently making people get out of their shelter and reapply every sixty days. I'm not sure if that rule applies to everyone or only recent immigrants. Certainly its an attempt to make them leave. Of course, if you have nowhere to go that's not going to happen. It also means all of the intake centers, which were already extremely overburdened, even more chaotic. I know our former fosters mom sat 9 hours a day for three days (with her three kids in tow) waiting to get a spot. Anyway, my friend told the immigrant mom if they don't give you a place you can stay with us. They have a very small two bedroom apt and two children. Def no extra beds. She apparently forgot she already told her neighbor (???) she could also stay this weekend. What? Who offers four people a place to stay in your very small apt without remembering you already had another houseguest? Anyway, she asked if we would be the back up until Sunday. Somewhat reluctantly, we said yes but Sunday was all we could offer. Four extra people in our apt feels like a lot. This is NYC apt not a spacious home. We have one bathroom. We have one full bed and a packn'play to offer - which is admittedly very lucky in NYC. My friend didn't even know the children's name. So it is not like it was a close friend that she had to offer a place to stay. I know the daughter is in my daughter's class but don't even know which child it is. I've met all of the Mom's but am not sure which one it is. Anyway, I'm thinking they will get her a place before then so it won't really happen. Our school's Parent Coordinator is working on it. She's a miracle worker and has a very generous and connected in the community church. If not, we will make a party out of it. The kids will love the guests. The family should also have the free pass our school offers to go to children's museums, etc. So will do all of that stuff. Order pizza. Watch movies. It's really baby boy's thats the problem. Extra stimuli make him extra stimulated - as expected. Will figure it out if it even happens. Hopefully the human connection will be nice especially when the world is such a mess.
